#15 What Peptide Should Dr. Kylie Start First?
What peptide should Dr. Kylie start first? After recording this series, it's a question she's had on her mind and now, she's asking it herself.
In this episode, Dr. Kylie Burton and Jessica Briecke walk through real clinical stories to answer one of the most common questions in peptide therapy: Where do I start? Or do I need to shift what I'm already using?
Each story reveals something different about how peptides work—and more importantly, why the right peptide matters for the right person at the right time.

You have the science. You have the tools. Now it's time to take the next step.
This is PepTalk: Peptides Unpacked—science made simple, results made real.
Peptides are powerful and often misunderstood. But we're here to change that. I'm Dr. Kylie Burton, and I'm Jessica Brickie.
SPEAKER_01:This is Pep Talk, Peptides Unpacked. Science made simple, results made real. This is our final episode inside this limited series. And today we're bringing it all home.
SPEAKER_00:Over the last few episodes, we've unpacked the science, the stories, the safety, the metabolism, the myths, and the real life transformations that peptides are making possible. And today we're closing this chapter with the heart of it all, the humans behind the healing.
SPEAKER_01:Yes, peptides are powerful, but it's the people, their courage, their stories, their willingness to try again. And that truly changed everything.
SPEAKER_00:So in this finale, we're sharing the stories that stuck with us, the lessons that we hope you carry forward, the truth that we want you to remember long after this series ends.
SPEAKER_01:Here we go.
SPEAKER_00:Let's let's wrap up our journey together. All right. So we had some amazing conversations uh while recording. It was probably one of the most um heartfilling podcasts that I have recorded because everybody's had different experiences. And to walk beside them and listen to them retell their story has just um, I feel privileged to have been able to hear that and be a part of that. And the first one that really really struck a chord was when we talked with Carly, um, who has lost 55 pounds on her semaglutide journey. And she cried during the episode because while she made us cry. Right. Because, you know, she realized that she was talking how this saved her, essentially, how it brought back to everything that who she was, and she found herself again because of what peptides did for her, how she's able to enjoy her children again. She wasn't just chasing skinny. I mean, she wanted to obviously have a a smaller clothing size, but she really wanted to feel like her again.
SPEAKER_01:I remember when she when she was bringing up the tears was because it was no longer the negative self-talk. Right. It was no longer looking in the mirror and cursing at her body and then looking at her husband and saying, Why did he pick me? He could have picked other people who are prettier, who are this, who are that. And, you know, I've I've felt her story. I married a bodybuilder in his bodybuilding prime. And I remember like, I am never gonna look like one of those bikini models on his stage, next, you know, who goes up after his section. So I get it. I get the feeling that all of us women feel insecure in some way, shape, or form. And to just have that open conversation about not was it just about the weight loss for her, but how it's changed her relationship with her husband, her relationship with her kids, her relationship with herself, and then the marketing, the business side of me says it's changed her financial life. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_00:I think that especially women um that have gone through, and and not every not every woman has, but women that have gone through childbearing years and their body changes significantly. Um there is a level of confidence that disappears along with that. You know, first of all, you're pouring into everybody else in your family, right? It's everybody else before you. So your energy is tanked, you're not caring for yourself in the way that you would care for everybody that you love around you, but your body's changed, it's unrecognizable for a lot of people. And in addition to that, we don't talk enough about men, which we're gonna get to, but we don't talk enough about how men experience that too quite often. You know, I think men just aren't talkers. I know that my husband um had a similar probably feeling because he no longer has a thyroid. Um, that was a response to exposure to everything in 9-11 and set off his Graves' disease. And the end result was removing his thyroid. And this is a man that has always been fit and suddenly became unable to control his weight and how he looked, and that really shook his confidence too. So women feel it, but so do men. They just don't talk about it as much as maybe we do.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. Jimmy is a perfect example of that. If we transition to the next story, you know, we talk about um, we talk about GLP1s, and those are the things that everybody knows and everybody correlates with a peptide, but they think about it as just a weight loss. And I love Jimmy's story because it's so much more than weight loss. For him, he didn't want to lose the weight, he just spent all this time bulking and getting the muscles up there, but on the inside, it was killing him. Literally. To hear him say, My organs were failing, and now they are not, it's like these are really powerful in more ways than we're giving them credit when they're done appropriately.
SPEAKER_00:Right. And so in his case, with his story, he was talking about how it's impacted his mental health, right? But also his kidney that was in mid to late stage kidney failure, they tried peptides with him to turn that all around, turn around his cardiovascular risk, which was extremely high from everything that had happened. So it started there and then it's just turned into he's a different man. I mean, you don't lose 90 pounds or whatever, I forget exactly what his number was, but it was pretty darn significant, and not just be a completely different person walking through this planet. I mean, I don't know that he's seen those numbers since probably junior high, you know. That's significant, but to save his life literally, not just because of the win on the scale, it's incredible.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, the I think of the peace that he feels knowing I ain't gonna wake up, I'm not gonna die tomorrow, or am I gonna wake up because everything inside of me is failing at the young age of 51? But to hear how his peptide package was so carefully crafted and so carefully monitored, and then the results that he's had, it's like this is why we're here. This is why we created this podcast to bring this knowledge that's more than just weight loss, it's more there's more to it. And if we can share these stories with the world, if you guys can help us out, and if you haven't shared this yet, I we ask you to share this podcast so that people can see the truth behind it and to sort through all of the noise that you're hearing about peptides, because there is the right way to do this, and there is the wrong way to do this, and when it's done right, you have no idea how it's gonna affect you. And you know, as as practitioners of Jess and I we always get asked two questions. One, is this gonna help me? And the other question is, does this cause or what causes XYZ? Those are the number two questions we get asked. My response is always, well, I don't know if it's gonna help until we try. It makes sense based upon everything that I know, based upon the labs, based upon all the things, but we really don't know if it's gonna help until we try. I would say the second part is is the root cause, right?
SPEAKER_00:So yeah, what do you respond? No, I was just gonna say, I I when it comes to peptides, there's really not any downsides. So we know what they've been studied for, we know the things that they've been approved for according to the FDA, and we know that there's a lot of people that are seeing these amazing results and things that we probably didn't even touch in. And every day that science and those studies are showing to be more and more effective in all these other areas. There's I just don't see the downside. I don't, I don't see the downside to using these. So when we're thinking, man, I don't know, I'd I'd say regardless, we're gonna see some sort of positive outcome. Some some positive outcome is going to come out of peptide therapy for sure.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. Root causes. When we get into the root cause world, which we all live in the functional medicine world, and you think, are the peptides the answer to the root cause resolution? We don't know until we try.
SPEAKER_00:And from the stories we've heard, man, they're looking pretty good. They are looking pretty good. When we talk about root cause, I think that our conversation with Dr. Jared, he's the one that really shines a uh spotlight on how that has been so incredible, elevating what he's done as a chiropractor in all these patients that you're seeing with autoimmune and inflammation and metabolic dysfunction. It's changed his practice completely for people that have had good results to having incredible results.
SPEAKER_01:And fast too. The story of his wrist, you know, how many chiropractors are scared because their their body's falling apart, but they require their body to provide their income. And what can they do with BPC 157? If you have an injury clinic, what could you do to incorporate that and see results come that much faster? And then what can you do when you core incorporate it and you see this residual income stream coming in? It's pretty fascinating. Dr. Jared was a plethora of information, he just kept dropping nuggets. If you haven't listened to that podcast, go listen to the nuggets dropped because we didn't even mention GLP ones really. We talked about other peptides, powerful peptides.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. We had um Stephanie on the podcast too, and I would say it was Steph GLP one was the peptide she started with, um, GLP one and a GIP combination and um answers of prayers answered. That's really kind of what her story is about because as long as she has walked this planet, she felt like she's had this um uneven relationship with food in the sense that, or unbalanced, I should say, in the sense that it was always consuming. So she lives a very healthy life. She's very active, she's outdoors, she hikes, she works out in the gym, she does all these great things for her body, and yet she was consumed by her relationship with food, her thoughts around food, whether it is, you know, late-night snacking, but really more food preparation or feeling completely horrible because she went and she enjoyed an ice cream cone. That has changed for her. She knows now she can go have spaghetti and meatballs for dinner, which she would have thought was, you know, completely out of the realm of possibility and enjoy it and not have it impact her weight and not have it consume her thoughts. Like, why did I eat that? I should never have had that. Prayers answered for her, and her story is really incredibly powerful. Um, also her relationship with alcohol and how this might be talking to her a little bit about quieting, she's been sober for many years, but how that has kind of quieted those urges or the feelings a little bit more. So, not just with food, but with other it other things.
SPEAKER_01:That was my favorite part about recording this podcast was to hear the other benefits of saying yes to something like this. Whether you get started for one reason and then you discover it helped you in this other way, that was my favorite part. And Stephanie's story was definitely one of those because it helped her in ways that she could have never dreamed of it.
SPEAKER_00:Never dreamed of she dreamt of it, she just didn't know that it would ever be able to become a reality, right? We had Katie too. Um, she talked about food noise, and she's a physician's assistant, and she talked about food noise, she was resistant because she thought that she didn't have food noise, and she didn't think that peptides were something that were gonna help her. But then her hesitation became like, wait, there's more to this. She tried it, and it's completely not only changed her body, but her approach to how she's work walking through her patient relationships and talking to them about that.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. You know, those were just a few stories that we covered along our journey together, and we want to really complete our circle. The only way you know how peptides are gonna help you is if you just say yes and get started. Now, we are very cautious about how we recommend this peptide therapy. So we have paired up and partnered with a telemedicine platform in which we feel confident that you can trust in and we can trust in as well. So to get started on your journey, go to drkylyburton.com/slash peptides. Again, if somebody sent you here, go back to them and let them work you through on how to get started. Any last little bit, Jessica, as we finish up here.
SPEAKER_00:A couple of things. I want to say that if anybody has felt a little bit of a spark around the business side of this, helping others and partnering with telemedicine or building a wellness income stream, stay tuned because Kylie and I recorded some bonus episodes that's gonna dive exactly into how people are doing that and building business with that, helping others. And I want to say also that in my three plus decades in wellness as a nutritionist, as a therapist, I don't think I have ever been more excited than I am right now about peptides and what's coming down the pipeline. So um, what about you? You got anything you want to wrap up with? You know, I want to ask you a question. What peptide would you suggest I start with? Hmm. That's interesting. So I you have three young children. Um, on I I don't I would say that most women with young children struggle with energy and maybe having enough like you know, gas in the tank to get through the days. So for a lot of people, maybe it would be um NAD plus, because that is going to be supporting our mitochondria, and that's gonna be the one that's gonna give us a massive boost in energy. So as a mom to three littles and running businesses, that might be where I would start for you.
SPEAKER_01:You know, it's funny you bring that up because I if I were to sit still long enough, and if I were to allow my eyes to close, I would probably sleep for days. But I just don't allow it. I move and move and move and move and move and move and move forward because that's the you know, that's what I do, that's who I am, that's what I've been doing for 36 years. And that's what women do. Yeah, that's what we all do, is we just don't allow ourselves to take that break, that rest, and we keep plowing through and we keep plowing through it. But to know that we're supporting our body from a mitochondrial level, that's a whole nother scientific episode to get into with the NAD. But I didn't even realize that that was a peptide.
SPEAKER_00:It's a peptide, it's potent, and it's a game changer for those that are really struggling with energy. Like even if you're doing any of the other maybe GLPs or whatever, you can stack NAD in there with some other things that you're doing if you're still struggling with energy, or you know, you don't feel like some of the other peptides that we've talked about are really hitting the mark for you. I don't I think that there's an awful lot of people walking around this planet that could really use a boost in energy, that could really use some mitochondrial support or energy powerhouses. It's where it all comes from. NAD Plus is fantastic, and it's quick, by the way. I also want to say that whereas when we're responding to the GLPs and the GIPs, everybody's a little different. So you might see that show up in a week or two or a couple months. Everybody's a little different with NAD Plus, you're usually seeing that pretty darn quick. Is that one the spray? Um, NAD can be dumb done sub Q. It can be done as a spray. Yeah. They have a sublingual for it. You know what? I don't know the answer to that. I'm trying to sublingual, I'm getting I I you know what? Well, you you carry on. I'm gonna look really quick and see if there is. Um, I know that I'm pretty sure that that one comes as a sublingual, but I was looking at this as a spray or uh, yeah, no, uh now it's not to say that it doesn't, but with the company that we work through, we work with that's coming in as um a sub Q injection or as a spray. Along that point, when people are trying to decide which way to go, subcutaneous, the injections or spray or oral, um, subcutaneous is usually going to be the way that it's we're gonna get the best result from. However, if you don't want to do a needle and it comes in an oral option or a spray option, even if the absorption is a little bit less effective, let's say it's 80% effective versus 100% effective, I will take 80% every single day over zero over not doing it. Right.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, and the other part I want to uh bring out too is not everybody is knowledgeable about stacking. Right. When we combine our we when we create our own personalized package, like uh was it Katie that said that she's added B12 into her process as well. Yeah, when she's ready to advance to the next modality or the next peptide package, she still has the same company she can go back and and get that from. So our stack company I have a stack currently too.
SPEAKER_00:I I'm doing yeah, I'm doing the GLP GIP combination with B12, and I'm currently doing BPC 157 with TCB with TC with TB500 um for an injury that I have, and the results have been fast and powerful. So I've got those stacked, and NAD is the next in my lineup.
SPEAKER_01:And we're getting it all from the same place, and you can too. I just want to highlight that, make sure that you're understanding not everybody is gonna just or knowledgeable enough or has the resources to stack these things in an appropriate manner. They're gonna give you whatever was embic or GOVI or whatever the whatever the name is.
SPEAKER_00:There's other ways, or not even a full true peptide. There's a lot of companies out there that are saying that the peptides and they're not. So you want to make sure that you're using a company that is using FDA approved ingredients from FDA approved pharmacies. Super important. Yes. I feel good about what we just accomplished. Do you? I feel amazing. I'm so excited to bring this out to people. Um, whether they're people that are wellness professionals that are looking to learn more or to have a resource to teach their their clients or their patients, or it's just a customer that just is wanting a better understanding of what it is that they're wanting to put in their body or already putting in their body. I just I think we've really kind of touched on a little bit of everything, including personal journeys. Um, and in the bonus episodes, we're going to get into the business side of things for anybody that's interested. And I just think we've built something really special here for people.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. If you're already taking peptide therapy, you can always switch over. If you're interested in starting, start in the right place. Um, and if you're interested in starting the business, like that's what the bonus episodes are for. And I just I grin from like ear to ear when I talk business and I talk opportunity, because if you're willing to say yes to an opportunity, you have no idea what's going to come down the pipeline, but it's something's good coming. And that's what we've done here. Is I reached out to Jess and said, What are you doing? She's like, Hey, I'm doing this. Okay, what's the business side of it? And I heard the business side as you've talked, as you'll hear in the future bonus episodes, that there is a plethora of opportunity in this as well. So we're glad you found us, however, you found us, and uh cannot wait to hear your results, your story. Who knows? Maybe we'll throw an episode in in a couple of years or six months or down the road, and it'll be your story that we're sharing. So that'll be fun.
SPEAKER_00:That will be fun. All right. Well, if you want to find me, you can find me on my website. Um, that's b2bwithess.com, or you can follow me on Instagram where I'm constantly posting information and stories and all kinds of educational little tidbits. You can find me there at JessB underscore LMT underscore N C and the details are in the show notes.
SPEAKER_01:You're gonna find me at my other podcast, Unshakable Brain. And to get started on your journey, go to drkylieberton.comslash peptides or reach back out to the person who sent you here. This is pep talk, peptides unpacked. Science made simple, results made real.
