The brothers-in-law catch up this week to discuss Dale returning to the golf course and Lee gaining some much needed experience at fly-fishing. Tourists, fitness, puppy progress, medical procedures and much more come up in their chat as Lee potentially heads off for a curry in retaliation for chickpeas being added tohis dinner!

SPEAKER_00

Welcome to Highlands to the Islands. I'm Lee, chatting to you from the Highlands.

SPEAKER_02

And I'm Dale, living life here on the Isles of Scilly.

SPEAKER_00

Each week we'll swap stories from the Highlands to the Islands, local news, DOI disasters, barbecue bragging, goal frustrations, weird and wonderful stuff that fills our weeks.

SPEAKER_02

Basically, it's two brother-in-laws having a laugh, trying to one-up each other and bringing you along for the ride.

SPEAKER_00

So grab a cupper or a pint. And let's jump in today's episode. Dow, what's been happening on the docks this week?

SPEAKER_02

Uh a busy week this week. Uh another busy week, sorry, but a delightful week where we've got boats back in the harbour and sunshine, weirdly, which um everybody's forgotten what that is, but we've got uh tripper boats back in the harbour and operating MCA were here, we've had landing craft, we've had the Grime Aretha, the Celonian 3 started carrying passengers again, so it's like a it's that time of year where there's people around and it's all very people y um uh mingling in the street with uh visitors. So yeah, a nice a nice change of feel, definitely with the sunshine that helps. Um, although I th I'm I'm pretty certain I've got sunburn after today. Um happy day. I was actually starting if you started moaning about the people, oh straight away on day one. It was like, who the fuck is that?

SPEAKER_01

Who's that?

SPEAKER_00

Honestly, every time we've got a silly, yeah, it's the tourist capital of the year of the world. Uh bloody people around it, it's all these tourists there that are just doing touristy stuff. Get out of the way. We need the tourists.

SPEAKER_02

We love the tourists.

SPEAKER_00

I know I know you do, yeah. I sat there giving it, why has everyone got a grump about tourists there? Uh anyway, well, it's the early days, yeah, mate. Early days, it's nice to see them, I guess.

SPEAKER_02

It is nice to see them, and it and and it is all everything's happened at the right time. Oh the right time at the same time. So the Salonians started doing pass. Uh, don't be wrong, the beginning of the week the weather was crap, it was rubbish. But she started with her passengers, um, tripper boats started operating again in terms of providing trips to the off islands, people started or people who we didn't know, so that's tourists then. Uh so they they started uh arriving and visiting the off islands, and uh yeah, it is officially start of the season, so um we just expect people to pop in and ask uh what times the boat to Briar, uh and where where do where do we put our bags? So um that that's the frustration. It's like yeah, you don't mind doing that a few times, but on the 474th time of the day.

SPEAKER_00

You normally wait till we arrive in uh uh the height of summer in August by that stage. Any uh nicely's got out there and it's like, Lee, don't talk to one, come here, close the door behind you, lock it behind you, lock someone comes in. Anybody else in? Yeah, see you coming in. They'll start following you thinking, Oh, this is the way to come in. Yes, I know. It's a normal visit there.

SPEAKER_02

I I've I've got a um a view that I think it's the same in every tourist or or any place that uh relies on tourists main income. So that start of season where people are sort of you know it delighted to see the tourist back and it's a nice change of uh atmosphere, and then end of season, people have just had enough, you know.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I think it does uh in fairness, it does also uh probably reflect if you're a business owner um and your livelihood, you know, as the business owner, your livelihood is I suppose it's a different attitude to that as well. Because uh whilst you you you're you know what you do there is your permanent 24-7 kind of uh service to the islands and everyone else. Whereas I'm sure if I was to chat if you were to speak to uh uh business owners, uh they'd be far happier throughout the year to see as many uh tourists continually there.

SPEAKER_02

Oh absolutely, and to and to be honest, I mean uh well, certainly in terms of the harbours point of view, we're we're there for the businesses, so that the busier the businesses are, the the better, really. Um the the better for everyone. So it's it's making sure that everybody can be accommodated. The safe and efficient practice. I know, depending on it.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, I when I mean St Ives, I usually never go to St. Ives because it's doing nothing.

SPEAKER_02

Well I mean there's not more than 50 deaths a year in St. Ives.

SPEAKER_00

I know, yeah, but that's it for me driving through there. Uh and uh and uh Marisine, I'd never you know but that's when it gets to the height, I would just turn left from where we used to live and coming up the top end and sod driving through there. But you're right. I mean it and it's all and I and I know for a fact that if I was a business owner or anyone's one in there, I'd be like, yep, get in there, more. I want more of them, more of fill the roads.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, the more the merrier. And I I think each year that there's always a pre-season a bit of doom and gloom of you know, it needs to be a good year, there's so much bad news around because we've been talking about the the state of the islands or the amount of construction work or you know, actually. Yeah, I thought damage. Yeah, so and and and that, you know, it it doesn't put people off. It's the highlight of it's not the highlight, sorry, it's highlighting what the feeling is generally around here. But I think each year where there's a bit of pre-season doom and gloom, it's always seems to be swept away and it ends up being a good season. And and it's all down to the weather. And and if the weather's fit, it's a bad cracking season. Um and and if the weather's fit, then then then the tourists arrive, the yachts arrive, you know, people have a good time, they go boating, they enjoy themselves, the scenery, the wildlife on Silly. So yeah, um, yeah, I think it's it's out of hands. People come to Silly for for certain things, and if the weather's right, that's that's the main thing. So yeah, I think that's but uh don't work to prior as.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Uh there's the title of the uh podcast. That early in this uh in the uh uh episode. Well done. Excellent right up. I was gonna I was gonna go down the psychology of uh negative chat and stuff, but I'm just bored myself saying that stuff, so uh sorry. Uh right, uh anyway, it's for normal. Uh did your boss like the uh podcast? Has he promoted you or has he fired you? I'll take he hasn't fired you, so he must have liked it.

SPEAKER_02

Uh yeah, there is, yeah. That is proper mind games, yeah. No comment, but um the the guy um there's a guy, Rod, who came and did uh uh audit and he's a designated person. He gave me a text and it was wonderful. So he he really liked it. But um, yeah, nothing nothing from the boss. So um yeah, if you're listening, um you know you know the Instagram's there, feel free to put a message in, that'd be ideal. Like, like and share.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, like, share, subscribe, you know, all this kind of good stuff. Uh but no comment about sun. Yeah, talking about sun, I noticed the girls have been uh uh having the uh competition now on the uh solars. Oh daily daily daily solars uh competition.

SPEAKER_02

Piss myself laughing. Uh I I looked on the on the group chat and uh to find uh screenshots of uh whose solar panels have provided more power. And if I'm honest, I don't know too much about it, so I don't comment, but um uh yeah, I don't I mean the bigger the numbers, the better.

SPEAKER_00

That's the way you need to know, mate, really. I mean, I I I keep I don't know why she started it because it's like darling, what is that? You know, what why are you gonna start that fight?

SPEAKER_02

Uh we're running 60 humidifiers and three three hairdryers and four microwaves, and we're still a hundred percent on the battery.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, exactly. Yeah, um, and you've got more panels as well, so it's just like, yeah. But it's been nice, that must have been that uh it has been nice though, been going to work, coming back and uh um um the use the the power in the morning, and by me come back it's uh topped up again quite a few days this week. Uh we've had zero um usage uh from the grid. I think we've been supplying back to the grid of that bloody old March, and we're already uh started that. I think in fairness, I think Anna's waiting to like June when we get like uh no uh it doesn't get dark here at all. So she's hoping she's playing the long game and gonna uh uh get a session where it's just sunny for the 18 hours of daylight we have here in the height of summer, so we'll see.

SPEAKER_02

Plug everything on at once. Oh, that's great, yeah. I have to definitely sunzo and and the change of atmosphere, the change of view. Not only because the the solar power panel things are working, uh but but purely just out and about. The place is dried up. We've had the wettest winter on record apparently here. Places dried up lovely. Um I I was out today, I was in shorts today. That's why I've got bloody sunburn, I reckon.

SPEAKER_00

Um that and your ginger.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, daywalking out on the golf course. That is not a good move. But uh I was outside as well. Um ears of sunburn. Um made sure I had a hat, but of course, didn't cover my ears and my neck. Um classic uh day one, week one sunburn. Um but but I love it. Um sun glorious. We can get outside to do more, and the clocks are going forward soon. Next week. Yeah, um, which is brilliant. So we'll have more evening sunshine. And we're slowly getting there with bits in the house. I say we've got an electrician here this weekend finalising the garage power that's gonna be.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, you've got you got decent internet yet? Or we uh come in.

SPEAKER_02

So we we have we have dug, I say the Royal Wii, we've got a man to dig the trench. Um you're learning, you're learning. Uh yeah, it's a man to dig the trench. We went, we've got the ducton, put that in, put the pool core through it, so it's there for uh BT man to pull through next week, hopefully. Um and then it'll be eight weeks to wait on a box to put that uh piece of cable into, no doubt. But that's done. That's trenches all backfilled. Um we had the electrician here this weekend, I say doing the garage sockets and power. Um that'll be done today. Uh we'll have hopefully a certificate all signed off electrical-wise by uh Monday or Tuesday. Um he plugged in the um uh uh you know the EV socket um so we've got one of them in the driveway. Um so that just starts the comp conversation now about should we get a no, it's sunny as well. Should we get an electric?

SPEAKER_00

Mate, it's honestly it's a no-brainer. And the fuel state, I mean, I'm not gonna you know, I don't want to be that gloating guy at the moment, right? I mean, I know we don't talk about try to avoid from uh uh world events here, but I'm just burning around here at the moment, laughing at people, just giving it yeah. How's the memes gone about those Tesla drivers now, you're wankers?

SPEAKER_02

Are you tooting the horn as you go past the picture?

SPEAKER_00

I'll just talk to people. Do you want me to drive? I know it's a bit too expensive now.

SPEAKER_01

I'll be duty driver, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, uh yeah, it's uh yeah, anyway. I mean, you know my opinions for you guys is a hundred percent no-brainer, and anyone around here, it's that there are occasions, and I agree, there are occasions as industries out there that um yeah, uh diesel um is gonna work and uh long range stuff, but yeah, 99% of those journeys are just so with all this sunshine we're getting now and the in the back now that we're we're looking for things to switch on, it's well that's it.

SPEAKER_02

What about it? Put the dishwasher on, yeah, wash machine, stick it on. Sun's out.

SPEAKER_00

So I take it so have you got a DNO to supply the grid, or are you just uh no, no, not yet. No, okay. All right, so yeah, so definitely so exact same as us. We've last year when the sun was on there, I'd come home and be like, Well, it all the batteries full, and we were supplying the grid for free. I was like, fuck off, plug the car in, get it straight in, and you've got another what 70 kilowatt battery that you can get right, son, get filling that bad boy up. And you know, I'm not gonna lie, you ain't something that you know that big, you ain't gonna fill that up. But it's it you're fit it's still free electric filling your car up. So I'm like, crap on.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I I I I I would be keen. I think that we the focus has to be on getting the house done, getting the drive done, getting the functional house done, getting we're we're measuring up for patios today, and or as we like to call them, patios, um getting the patio uh side of the house um done round the garage, uh, and then we've got some concrete. Oh, there's actually quite a lot to do. Yeah, exactly.

SPEAKER_00

And and you've you've both got cars, so why do you have cars? Why do you want to fork out more money on something? Yeah, exactly.

SPEAKER_02

If we can get the house half, or it's not the house, actually, it's the outside. If we get half of that done before you arrive, um in I'm not gonna lie to you, mate.

SPEAKER_00

I'm expecting 100% done before we arrive. I mean, I think you need to sorry, I'm not sure about your goal setting there. 50%. That's not that's not a big goal, right? We we'll go for 100% before they arrive, and then we'll see what happens, you know, and accept uh uh delay. So you see a project manager on this. Let me uh give them a call. Right, okay. I'll love a word of her about this. Uh get 50% of it done. Bloody hell.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I think if is Fran's more concerned about getting uh as she likes not instead of the pay show, she likes to call it the gin deck. The gin deck, yeah, that's it, probably. Yeah, get the gin decks done. That's the priority number one, if I'm honest. Uh yeah, I think there's not many arguments about that. Um front house, actually, to be honest, I'm quite happy with the uh the way it looks at the moment.

SPEAKER_00

But um I can say, yeah, every picture I've seen in the front. I mean, I pr appreciate you've got a dirty big trench at the moment, but once that's uh no, that's all gone. Trenching's all done.

SPEAKER_02

Um all of that's finished. It's just waiting, um, it's waiting on some people to come and assist with the proper machine. Although saying that, I had a digger out today, that was awesome fun. A bit of diggering, um pulling some concrete out of the ground um and then smashing that up. Uh garage sockets, as I'm saying, that that's all going in. Yeah, DIY-wise, that's uh it's been quite a good weekend for it. Um even managed to smack a bit a few golf bowls around the course with Harry. We only did four holes, but um I think we managed to lose about eight balls. Uh uh yesterday I I played golf yesterday for the first time since New Year. Um I played with Tim yesterday afternoon, managed to get away early, and um absolutely glorious sunshine day up there as well. Um but played really well. We didn't keep score, but had some oh stonking shots. Straight straight off the uh the range at Glen Eagles. Uh again, mate. Um had some horror shots as well, but I won't dwell on them. It was more um longest. I've I've driven longer on about three or four of the holes out of the nine that we played yesterday than I've ever driven before. Like it was like watching Rory, honestly.

SPEAKER_00

The the the one in fact, a couple of weeks left to go before that. I'll tell you what, it's been really good. I don't know if you know that Anna's um been um as she always is, she's uh uh she's having a hip operation the uh the day the the uh the day the masters starts. So I basically drive her to the hospital and then uh say goodbye. And then uh I've got I've got a full first night of uh masters on my own. If she calls for me to say you know she's been delayed for another day, not a problem, darling. Not a problem. Two days of it done, and then she won't be moving anyway. So I'll tuck her away in the uh back bedroom somewhere and I've got masters all weekend.

SPEAKER_02

I'd be amazed if you uh answer the phone if she tries to interrupt the masters to come and collect me. So who's this?

SPEAKER_00

Well, exactly. Yeah, I didn't mention that to her. I mean, if it's an evening call that she wants picking up, oh hang on a minute. Uh you sure you don't understand about night, darling? So uh yes. So yeah, get excited about that.

SPEAKER_02

Proper planning for this, and that Anna's gonna give you some um meals pre-prepared, ready.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, there's they're starting now, yeah. We could probably do a whole podcast uh uh for that on the uh preparations for Anna's uh uh Anna's preparations for her hip replacement to look at preparing the family, yeah. Preparing the family, yeah, uh by family me. Um oh so it's we're talking of golf. Obviously, uh moving on from uh uh last week when I told you about all my great bets.

SPEAKER_02

Oh yeah, and I and I told you no, I said I could have taken it to download, so I didn't bother honestly.

SPEAKER_00

I sat there and when I looked at it and it was a 60 quid uh um uh on the on the first day, I could have just cashed out and I I knew I should have just taken that and gone, you know what? You've all your bets are square if you and you have some extra cash there if you cash that one out, and I didn't, and then I walked away with nothing because oh feminine.

SPEAKER_02

Oh it's so gambling, just don't do it. That is it, yeah. Um be gamble aware. Or would it sort of gamble sensibly or whatever?

SPEAKER_00

Uh yeah, yeah. I mean, I mean, I mean, don't get it wrong. I mean, you know, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But Masters comes, you'll be seeing me giving it money, money, money, money, don't it? Throwing cash all over the place.

SPEAKER_02

Early doors, uh get on.

SPEAKER_00

Are you been on cracking there? I'll tell you what, you ought to be careful, yeah. Oh, he's shocking now. Um, ever since um it wasn't too bad the other day, in fairness. He actually, when we spoke, when we chatted, I was surprised. Uh I think it started off for Evans. Uh so it was yeah, he was Evans shots-wise, and then he actually finished quite strong. So, you know, it's um, yeah. But yeah, you're right. He ain't no masters, ain't gonna win the masters. What um standing standby for that, of course.

SPEAKER_02

Um, you wait, it's gonna romp it now. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Should have had a absolute yeah, yeah, exactly. I'm trying to speak to her and find out what uh uh odds is actually gonna be on there, while you're saying that.

SPEAKER_02

I I'm just thinking as well, what you mentioned about Anna heading off for her um hip-hop is um uh that's quite a lengthy recovery, isn't it?

SPEAKER_00

That's that's quite oh god, yeah, just god knows.

SPEAKER_02

Um that's um that that's not six weeks, I think.

SPEAKER_00

Is it six weeks recovery? Something like that.

SPEAKER_02

That is that the end of sea swimming, then is it for a bit? Um help, I'd imagine, would it?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I don't know. I mean, is it sea swimming? They always said is it is a big just walking in there. I've got to be careful, she's in the room at the moment. So if you if you if the if the uh comms go silent, it's because I'm actually dead. I'm literally hit by a frying pan, yeah, exactly that. Um yes, it will be. I think it will be perfectly, yeah, it's uh no uh none of that kind of movement around. So yeah, it's uh it sounds painful.

SPEAKER_02

Well, my friend's mum, um uh Will Garrett's mum, actually, last week, um really unfortunate, fell um in the bathroom as she was cleaning, fell off a stool, I think. But managed to break her hip, she got flown out. Um but they did a hip replacement the next day, I think. Really? Yeah, I think yeah, really, really swiftly. So managed to get in there and they've changed it. So but she's now when I saw her daughter at the queue for the Salonian on Friday, she was they were on the way over to go and um she was being transferred but straight onto physio, straight up, you know, we've got to keep moving, sort of thing. Um I'm not sure if she's made it home yet, but um but yeah, I think I don't know the medical world has changed from back in the day you'd be in hospital for X amount of days, weeks, whatever.

SPEAKER_00

It's now get you Nah, I think I think yeah, I think Anna's um she's not even doing it under going under uh under. She's got a uh spine or something, she's gonna be awake while someone's doing it. What do you want to do that for? Get me out, yeah. Get me out, wake me up when it's done. If I don't wake up, hey, never mind. Uh I never know, yeah. Exactly. Uh, but yeah, I think you're right. It's a it's a it's a day. Uh she's got to stay every one night and then back. And then because she's uh such a I think the doctor described her as an athlete. Uh she um in what sport? Sorry. Well, I'm not sure what sport, but this was the term used. So she's got that's kind of the the the young athlete's uh new hip arriving, um with all bits of titanium and ceramics and stuff because uh um and because of the way that the uh uh her fitness regime and uh uh cycling and swimming.

SPEAKER_02

I shall be keeping an eye and watching those Strava times tumble. Well exactly.

SPEAKER_00

I mean I'm not sure what she told the doc, and but you know, hey, that's what he's so he's giving her this uh all single dancing uh uh uh hip. So we shall see.

SPEAKER_02

She's gonna have to do the other one, mate. She's gonna have to do the other one.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, yeah, but no, so uh although I mean uh there I am belittle, she was out on the bike today, although um I did have to correct her, she came back with all these PBs, etc. So we had a little bit of a uh yeah, correct. I said, uh I don't think you find that's on a uh uh e-bike there, darling. And we had a little disagreement about that, and uh I I I watched her changing it to e-bike as she was saying, Yeah, yeah, yeah, it is, it is, it is, it is. And uh oh, you haven't got any more PBs anymore. You've got Queen of the Mountain, uh funny that's uh but uh yeah. But in fairness, you know, hey, out there doing it. You know, if you rightly so you'd go, Lee, what were you doing today? And I'd go, Well, I went fishing and another snooze.

SPEAKER_02

Did you go fishing today? Did you?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh god, yeah. I can fish for tea, then is it? Uh there is addict there, yeah, yeah. So nothing new with me. I went fly fishing. In fact, well, I'm trying to think we we do need to remember to connect last week's to this week's episodes. Um, so I was I mentioned about going fishing last week. So I did see a picture on on there about your uh yeah, so I went pike fishing. Um you didn't see any pictures of any pike because we didn't catch any.

SPEAKER_02

Um I was gonna say funny enough, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But uh it was uh to be honest, um I was saying to I don't know, I've I've I fished quite a bit uh on and off um throughout my life. And I remember as a kid I always wanted to go pike fishing. Um that was nice anyway. Um and obviously I've just uh uh come back and I've had to buy Lendu gear. Um so uh uh I just need to get some clothing now to match it.

SPEAKER_02

But uh premium channel.

SPEAKER_00

Spinning, you know, slightly different size, lures, etc. But the principles are saying whether you're seafishing off of Cornwall or uh pike fishing, uh spinning for pike um in locks here, you know. Um, so that's why it I I tried a bit of fly fishing for it as well, and um yeah, fly fishing is uh pike fly fly fishing with heavy lures is extremely difficult. Um, and I couldn't fly fish with light lures, so you can imagine how that went.

SPEAKER_02

But um are you uh are you now about to set up in your man shed uh your own fly making? Um buying the little vice and and and so magnifying glass and starting to wind your own flies and make your own flies.

SPEAKER_00

So well, I just think of my analogy when it comes to DIY. Uh how do you think what do you think my policy is gonna be with flies?

SPEAKER_02

Well, I I think you'd you'd probably fall into the uh the uh section of bad taxidermy online if you made your own flies.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. Yeah, so I um so I'll tell you what I did today, which made me laugh. I went out um and I went off. I mean I'll go pop out for a couple hours. Um fly fishing up in the um trout fishery up here. And it was uh, you know, and I you know, hey, I haven't been fly fishing uh that long, so for me, I'm I'm trying to learn via the medium of YouTube, which has its limitations, as you can imagine. So um it's I'm you know, I it's the fly is going out, it's not going out a million miles, etc., but going out there and uh it wasn't I could see the fish, I had a few comedy um follow the uh uh uh the uh fly in. I was oh and then I thought, you know, I've got I've got all these uh lipsy boxes of flies, I haven't got a clue what any of them do. Um I like to take a picture of one of them to chat GPT to say what type of fly is this, and then it came and told me a load of stuff about what flies I should be using anyway. So I decided just to change my fly. Sat there, and I've realised I'm getting blinder and blinder, and my normal glasses, I think I need super magnifying one when it comes to tying knots.

SPEAKER_01

Nope.

SPEAKER_00

I sat there, I sat there, tied this knot. Have you I've done it, have you you you know what a blood knot is, don't you? A fish knot that you use to tiny hooks on, yeah. Yeah so you there are with loads of loads of ones. That's my go-to, and it has some failings when you use the lightweight stuff, but I was just like, yeah, so I I tied it. Do you know when the the end is getting close to where the knot is? Um and I went, yeah, that'd be fine. So I pulled it and went, yeah, yeah, yeah. I gave it a good tug, went, yeah, I'm not joking now. Fly one out, bang, trout got it. I went, truck, got it, could feel it on on the line, started giving it right, come on, Lee, load up, etc. And then next thing you know, gone. Fucking knot. I just uh that knot I I knew, I knew it, I knew it as well. So when you tied it and it did the tag was just a little bit too short, I knew it.

SPEAKER_02

I got away. The the record breaking trout that exactly so uh but and then uh well mate, you know what they say, if you if you can't tie knots, tie lots, so have a big granny knot on the end of it.

SPEAKER_00

I should have done it's a couple of boys over the other side of the uh uh the kind of wherever it was, and they they just there was a bit of a you could hear a kind of a conversation, and I said, Yep, that's just uh there's a lesson learned uh fellas on shit not dying, and they kind of just kind of like nodded a bit. We've all been there, and then uh this whole boy. So at that stage I wasn't catching much, then I was getting a little bit nuts, and I thought maybe it's just where I'm fishing. Some old boy turns up, and he's he's fishing every mark as he's walking up and he's catching fish, and then he just waits for me to cast, you know, it's a bit like golf. You know, when someone sat and saying, Oh, can I play through? And like, oh fuck off, mate. I don't even look it up my swing, but it's the same with my cast. So it's okay, mate. I don't usually look at my cast. So you're like, No, no, you're alright. So I sort of cast a lovely old chap. I was just like, yeah, yeah, too much arms there. And I thought, well, I'm gonna what you said makes no sense, mate. I said, explain to me. Uh and uh so bless him, he did. And uh my casting got um slightly better, so there were some benefits. So by the time I left there, I was uh certainly a better cast than I was when I started, so I was happy. It's all about the small wins, exactly. All about small wins, mate.

SPEAKER_02

Fine margins there, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Right, I'd take some positive out of that, mate. I said, Jesus Christ, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Well, if you've gone back uh going back again, then it can't be all that bad.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah. I mean it's it's I mean you know Scotland is beautiful anyway, uh, day and doubt, Degger. But you I sat there and uh uh as you arrived, you could hear the woodpeckers chirping off of the background, you know, all that kind of stuff. So yeah, it's a lovely place to be.

SPEAKER_02

It's an expensive way to have a quiet afternoon, but nonetheless, I think you're right, it is uh um it's gonna be one of the most relaxed and peaceful, you know. You're just an idyllic scenery, and if the weather's fit, and you know, all right, yeah, we we all believe that you caught the biggest fish, but the the the knot let you down. But uh even even if there was no fish there at all.

SPEAKER_00

Um I know what I did notice from uh this weekend to last weekend, or last weekend with the pike fishing, you didn't know whether there was any there, right? So you could walk away saying there were none there because it was the it was the spade that falls into a lock and blah. So you never saw anything today. You can see them literally swimming around, laughing at you. So you know they're there, so you can't even use the excuse there was none there. It's literally filled with trout. You're like, oh fuck.

SPEAKER_02

Can you not just get hacked off with all and just got a massive net and go across the river?

SPEAKER_00

Honestly, they're that close, they're that close. I mean, that's why I don't really worry about my shit casting. You can just literally cast in front of you, and there is a trout there looking at it, giving it, oh, what's this? I'm gonna tell them stick and string. Yeah, you could do, generally. Um you could, and you probably catch one of me as well.

SPEAKER_02

So uh I'll get Ellen Ellen's a Ellen's a champion fisher in our household. Yeah, she's she's got the the knack for it, definitely. I just um I was looking back at um old notes there and uh just jumping back to Anna's hip replacement, which definitely I I don't envy her at all, sounds really painful. But I'm just wondering, is that as a result of her stomping upstairs?

SPEAKER_00

Um or or sorry, I was just drinking it as you said that then. Years of stomping. So what you're saying is when she when she went to the doctor for this uh uh she told the doctor that it was that's all my years of cycling, cross country, running, uh open water swimming, and and we're and we said we actually know the truth behind this is because she stomped these ball strikes around the house.

SPEAKER_01

It's heavy upstairs, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And the vibrations of a good chance, mate. You know, it's you know, it's just yeah, it's sat there just uh stamping around on your heel, it's gonna do some damage to your hip, and it's gonna cause cracks.

SPEAKER_02

You know, it's it's gonna it's gonna vibrate all the way up the leg, there and the hip's the obvious place to it for it to go.

SPEAKER_00

Sounds legit to me, mate. Sounds legit to me.

SPEAKER_02

Medical like to me, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Well, and I'm as good as a doctor, so you know, hey. Uh but uh yeah, the hill strike, the yeah, the famous the famous Maury Hill strike.

SPEAKER_02

Oh man, it's uh I I worry for our new stairs that went in here, it's like, oh come on, friend, just you know, just lightly.

SPEAKER_00

Just I know it's like they never got taught how to walk uh or uh run, you know. The the front of the stuff. Well, it's not even tiptoeing. I get accused of tiptoeing. This you know, I don't know if I'm I'm sure I've mentioned before it should occasionally puts a bell on me uh because I keep surprising people around the house. I'm like, no, I just walk normally to sit the balls to your feet and then the heel is how you're meant to walk uh and run, in fact. Uh no, no, no, no. The way you should walk around and run is you get your heel and you stamp it on the ground so everyone you know the next uh around you for 10 miles can feel the vibration. You know, when Anna walks around, you can see that the birds fly around fly off from trees as she's just uh walking around.

SPEAKER_02

That's why she drives so fast as well, just foot straight down. Bang.

SPEAKER_00

That's why her clutch is fucked. Yeah, yeah, uh will spin off in a way. It's funny, yeah, because a clutch is knackered there's uh something wrong that she blames the string there, but uh anytime I go in there.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, clearly a mechanical problem, nothing to do with the driving technique.

SPEAKER_00

I reckon she stretched the cable with her uh uh I just I I take it Fran's a hill striker as well.

SPEAKER_02

She uh mate, I think I've got hearing loss as a result of it, and um yeah it's um I know when she's she's coming upstairs. Uh and then then I get accused if I'm stomping round. I that's the same thing, you know, you come in late. I accused them you made so much noise, but if the rules reversed ever, but and that is very, very infrequently, shall we say? Um Pran can't do that, tiptoeing bit all that try to be quiet. No, you know, doors open, lights on, crash, bang, wallop. Um well, I I make a noise in the in the attempt to be quiet. That slight little noise, you're making so much noise. Can't win. Yeah, can't win. Yeah, I'm getting old.

SPEAKER_00

How's the uh how's the dog anyway?

SPEAKER_02

Oh puppy. Lovely. Um I I didn't she said a shit yet in the middle of the uh uh meeting room. Uh fortunately not. Uh nothing indoors. No, haven't had that. Although because she comes to work with me on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. Um and I'm pretty sure I I I need to rearrange diaries and stuff because all my meetings seem to happen on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and that's in-person meetings or Teams meetings. Um I think I mentioned the other week when she's got this seagull toy that's got a squeak in it. Oh, just be sitting listening to something, you know, half serious uh and and trying to listen to people, and then you just hear this squeak, squeak, squeak in the background. You're like, I'm really sorry. When it's the in-person one, it's not so much of a problem because the people knows there. The other people are on the teams going, What's that noise? Is that what's downplaying with her? Yeah. But so she's made an appearance on all the Teams meetings that have been on. And everybody likes a puppy, so it's like yay, but it's losing its appeal with me. I just want to get, you know, just sit quietly, just don't you know play with a toy that doesn't squeak. No, where's the one that squeaks? I end up taking it off for the other day. We were on a uh a security exercise drill. And all you could hear in the background is this squeak, squeak, squeak, squeak, squeak, squeak. No, she's she's doing all right. She does she she's still a puppy, so it's not her fault. But uh so she does these excited wheeze, like oh excited we're like, oh, stop it. So we've got the puppy pads around the the office and at home still. Um that yeah, the sort of puppy smell. You ever I don't know if I think it was a comedian years ago who said people can walk into your house and go, Oh, you got kids, you know. Yeah, yeah. You can do that now with the dog. I'll walk home and go, yeah, we got a dog, uh, or we got a puppy. Um she's got that puppy smell, um, which is uh a mixture of her excited wheeze and her um wet spaniel um smell that she she's been rubbing across everywhere. So but she's having a we took her for a lovely walk around Port Helic today. She's having a whale of a time. She she does this thing, so I get up in the early in the morning, take her out to the field. She does this puppy bark, and she she gets so excited, she doesn't know what to do. It's just like, oh my god, everything is amazing! This is brilliant. So she just barks as she runs across the field, and she was doing that again today. But it was glorious on the uh east side of the island, running up and down, not a fucking sight of that bastard whale at all. Um, but the dog was having an absolutely amazing time, and she got pheasants and stuff like that on the island. Yeah, yeah. And and so Fran Fran put on pheasant TV for her the other day, and that that got her attention. She's just sat there like poised, and she jumped up on the coffee table. And I was waiting for her to do the leap towards the flat screen TV. But she's looking to the side of the TV when they run out of shot, if you like.

SPEAKER_00

We did that, uh, yeah, when we had Cory here, exactly right. Um, because um you could yeah, they just literally just fucking love what peasants are.

SPEAKER_02

It's in the DNA.

SPEAKER_00

It's a DNA in it, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Um so I just couldn't remember if they were any on there, oil and yeah, they're here and you can hear them, especially early in the morning.

SPEAKER_02

You can hear them as well. So she can she can't fathom out where they are, so she just runs across the field barking and yelping. She's like, Where where are where's my where's my mates? I mean, I don't know what she'd do if she ever caught up with one, she'll never catch up with them because she's no she's running across the field basically shouting, I'm here. Yeah, exactly.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. I mean, at least when Cory does it, he's he's well, you can still hear him scampering, but he's not barking, yeah. But then once he gets one, or sorry, once he's flushed one, that's when you hear the kind of like you know, the the the barking of victory and ah um, but yeah, he's kind of trying to get them.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah, that's I think it was a week or maybe just over a week ago. It was one of the first times we'd taken out in the field across the road, and uh we were walking back um towards the house, and and one just you know, we spooked it. I don't think it was the dog at all, but it it was about 10 foot from us, and um I mean it spooked um Iska. She was like, What the hell was that? Yeah, I bet you Jesus Christ, that's amazing! Um but yeah, she's she's she's good as goal, she's she's good fun, but it's um she's still in her uh puppy mode, and um Fran's managing to get her to do a couple of um sits and and lie flat uh and she's done paw and all that sort of stuff. Right. She comes back on the whistle, but when she gets so excited and she just loses all control of her senses. Um she's probably just peeing as she runs as well. Um but no, she's good. Um so yeah, we've got the house of it. It doesn't smell a puppy, it's it's the it's the food. So um my sister sent down this proper puppy food. It's I don't know whatever it's called, but it's it stinks. I know that. You mix it with sort of uh you put uh boiling water in it and let it sit for 20 minutes to cool down and it absorbs the water and it oh my god. But um sounds grim. Yeah, it is grim. So the house smells of that, um, which is not the smell you want to smell in the morning.

SPEAKER_00

Um I thought you were being brave. If it's not the dog, it's Fran's cooking. This place stinks.

SPEAKER_02

No, the cooking was on form today, mate. It was uh uh bacon and egg rolls and oh just awesome. Love them today. Um, so I didn't worry about the uh the dog food. She got um she got egg for lunch today, so I'll I'll have fun with that tomorrow morning. Uh picking up. Yes, yeah, yeah, exactly.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, the joys, the deep.

SPEAKER_02

She did that to me on the key because she's I guess same thing, when she's down on the quay, I'll put her on the lead and I'll take her down to the beach, you know, 10 o'clock lunchtime, three o'clock. Um classic all the smoke all time. Smoke O's, yeah. Um, and she gets excited because she knows where she's going, but then so she wants to pull on the lead and then she'll sort of stop suddenly and and she had a poo on the side of the key, and there was somebody on the phone. So I was on the phone and trying to do the poo bag as she's trying to pull one way and trying to pick up this and trying to wipe poo in a in a quite a thin poo bag, plastic bag on a granite sandy surface. Uh you're thinking, oh, and it's just tearing the bag. You're like, oh no.

SPEAKER_00

Honestly, that that is my we don't I just refuse when it comes to uh poo bags, you can't go cheaper them. We go cheaper them, and they're just it just uh for me they're the those nice green organic ones that smell of vanilla or whatever it is. I don't yeah, but you they're never gonna um rip as you're trying to grab a shit. Yeah, uh uh you know, you can't be dealing with those the the cheap thin ones.

SPEAKER_02

Well, so we we've gone and we've got um we used to have them with Maggie to be fair. I think the I don't know, lavender scented or something. Yes, it doesn't master the smell of uh dog shit anyway, but nonetheless, it's it's a thick uh there's a nice segue, mate, because it's it's a weird thing that happened to me uh this week. Things that you you find weirdly satisfying or um uh enjoyable as as as an older person that you'd never thought of before. And I was I was it was bin day on Thursday morning. I was like, I'll do the bins, and I and the bin was absolutely rampact in the kitchen. I've taken that out, but it was a proper, thick quality bin liner, and I was like, Yes, that's awesome. That's I can't go wrong with a proper thick bin liner, strong bin liner, and I was like, Yes, same thing, you spend that extra couple of pennies on it. Um and then I noticed the other thing that I really really like is the um the soft closing uh toilet seat, and I only notice it when there's places that doesn't have it. It's like bang, like oh shit. Uh it's it's it's a weird thing. It's like I think the the all the the the toilet upstairs and downstairs here has got them just soft closing, and we've got it in the harbour office as well. Soft closing toilet seat, you can't go wrong with it.

SPEAKER_00

We we might have them, but every time I hear Teddy go into the bathroom, I just said it's bang!

SPEAKER_02

Yeah weird things, even the uh the soft closing cupboards or drawers. Um I I've only because I never had them uh growing up and and all the kit oh I think all the kitchens seem to have them now, but uh it's a weirdly satisfying thing. Um even if you try and lose your shit and slam the drawer, it it stops at that last half inch and then softly closes. You go, okay. But um yeah, weirdly um oddly satisfying things as an older person. Or or a good night's sleep. Can't beat that. A proper good night's sleep, which um I've managed to average over eight hours every night this week, which has been epic. Oh nice. Um or so my watch has told me.

SPEAKER_00

Um on that on uh um I don't know if you call it uh about um smart watches and people commenting of um getting nervous or you know, listen listen to the data the Garmin tells them that uh uh they had a crap night's sleep and then they so they're they start worrying about it another, you know. If the sleep was good, it was good. I mean, you know, then the watch to tell you, but yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Well me and Fran this week we're both saying that we're waking up. I mean, no problem, get up, get up early. Uh smashed in eight hours plus sleep. Um but weirdly I've been feeling more and more tired this week. And and Fran's the same, actually. She wasn't feeling great this morning, so maybe there is um there's a bug going about um whereas Billy Connie says, What one just the one? Uh one uh one bug sorting us all out, but uh it can't be a bit a good night's sleep. Um and I definitely notice it uh if I've had a few drinks like last weekend I had a few too many drinks on the Saturday night, I think it was, and the Sunday morning, you're like, yeah, yeah, that that just feels awful. Um but um through the week it's it's been up and fresh. Although I'm still not a morning person. I don't know how you can get up and be chuppy and full of life. That that I that that's almost as annoying.

SPEAKER_00

This week I've I think we've been yeah, we've been going to bed early. Uh but I've but I've been going to be no literally I've been waking up at five and giving it oh, and I've been sat there deem scrolling for like you know half an hour thinking and then I think I'd better get up.

SPEAKER_02

Why'd you get up at five?

SPEAKER_00

Well, because I'm awake.

SPEAKER_02

Oh so you're not getting up at five, sorry.

SPEAKER_00

No, no, no, no. Wake up. Yeah, but in fairness, because I probably went to bed at nine. Um, last week, yeah. Yeah, so uh but no, the root band normally tells you what's going down, so that's good. Um it normally keeps me right on my um what's going down.

SPEAKER_02

That's the uh that that's the that becomes almost addictive as as um because friends I think like one night I was it was just before nine o'clock. I was like, oh, I'm just gonna go go to bed. It's too early. I'm like, no, but then it almost becomes um addictive, like, oh I've gotta go to bed now. Gotta go to bed at nine, nine thirty at the latest. Like, that's ridiculously early. Um, you dare stay up till ten o'clock and you notice it the next day. It's like, oh, it's such a late night.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I don't know. I've yeah, so I what I do notice, and it's it's funny because um yeah, we're boring the tits out of everyone who's uh out on uh our sleeping habits is if I do manage to start that little bit later, I kind of have that deeper sleep for longer uh throughout the period. So then when I wake up, I'm kinda like, whereas if I go to bed too early, I have a deep, decent deep to start with, and then I'm kind of like tossing and turning for about four onwards because I'm kind of body's giving it well, you've had six, seven hours of sleep. What more do you want, and um and I can't force it to uh um do any more sleeping, but yes.

SPEAKER_02

I just sit and put the uh air uh um I I wake up, recharge the airports, and then sit and listen to some other um another podcast, yeah. Which is um I've I I don't know what I mean subconsciously, I'm probably a genius. The amount of stuff that I've listened to and in terms of um space travel and uh history and um the the um uh sleepy histories as well. Um but I I can't remember any of it, but um because I'm I'm I'm just zonked out straight away. Yeah, I know what you mean. But uh yeah, so my my sleeping hasn't really helped me be a morning I thought it would. I thought I'd be more of a morning person.

SPEAKER_00

No, no. I mean you are an absolute grump in the morning, the must have been It has been noted by us when we've stayed with you, it's just I just don't talk to Dale.

SPEAKER_02

I need to sort of break ten, maybe half ten.

SPEAKER_00

Ten o'clock safe, basically. By that stage, we're okay.

SPEAKER_02

But I much prefer getting up earlier because I I was hoping that that would get over being the grumpy person and by the time you get to work. Well, it hasn't yet, mate.

SPEAKER_00

We haven't seen it anyway. Nobody's seen it. No, no.

SPEAKER_02

But work, I I was going back to work this year and I was looking on this screen here. Um not only has it been a busy week with the Salonian, but we met the um I say I met um the High Sheriff of Cornwall was visiting this week as well. So that was another thing that we um we were getting up to and um um went to uh tea and cake afternoon afternoon tea and cake with the high sheriff uh earlier this week, which was nice.

SPEAKER_00

I mean what is a high sheriff though?

SPEAKER_02

Uh honestly it's an honorary title and it's it's quite good actually. I mean it's the chap who's doing it at the moment, he's um he's about to um to hand over to somebody else um I think this week.

SPEAKER_00

Um all right, just before we before we continue, uh is he listening to this podcast? Is that why you're gonna be really nice to him?

SPEAKER_02

Uh he well he he he he works for the duchy and uh I've known him for 15 years, so he's he's and and potentially I don't know, for all I know, my boss could be telling everybody else in the uh at work to to listen to it.

SPEAKER_00

So um I'll just check it before I start slagging off sheriffs and stuff in a silly name in there. Are you are you gonna become the new sheriff of uh definitely not now?

SPEAKER_02

I've seen I've seen the uniform they have to wear, and there's a lot of uh uh furls and frills and and high stockings, I think they're called.

SPEAKER_00

Um no different to a normal uh uh um Saturday nightmate, to be honest. Yeah, exactly.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, but um but uh no go on sorry. We we met we met uh Geraint, his name is he's the he was he's the head forester for the duchy or was and uh went and met him, uh which is really nice. And weirdly, he um he has also met Harry. Um he went to visit Army Cadets when they were on the mainland. And I just remember getting this text um a few weeks or maybe a couple months ago when Harry was on cadet camp, and it was uh Harry with uh the High Sheriff of Cornwall and um the Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall as well. And Harry was stood there. I think I may I mentioned this to you before, he stood there with his um SA80 or the Cadet GP with a blank fire attachment, appointed at the head of the Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall. I was like, Jesus Christ. Um yeah, it's a small world though. He was he was here this week promoting um uh he's doing quite a bit of promotion on a very good cause, um, which is um speaking up against uh violence against women. So um yeah, he he's doing some grand work and and it's the championing those sort of causes that that that uh um honorary role does. So um it's not a very funny story at all. Um let's talk about something else. Exactly, yeah. Talk about Michael then exactly, yeah. I spent ten minutes today telling Harry, um, you know, just take the practice swing, keep your head down, you know, get your grip right, make sure your head's your eyes on the ball, don't move it, get some practice, practice. Imagine you're cutting the grass with a club and he was doing it, and he was taking a few, you know, couple of devots here and there, and I was like, Oh god, Harry, you just gotta get it right, you know. So up steps me. Take might have been playing with me. Might have been playing with the huge devit comes flying up out of the air.

SPEAKER_00

I'm loving that. Literally loving that, giving advice there. Yeah, you should have said to Harry, you got the internet, yeah. Put out YouTube, mate, and just stop, just listen to that. There you go.

SPEAKER_02

There's your I did fold in the end. I said, Look, I am not the person to be telling you how to do it. But because you you've I can't all I wanted to tell them today was just slow it down, mate. You're trying to hit it like a baseball. But um, but yeah, yeah. When you can.

SPEAKER_00

The thing is, you are right, yeah, yeah, you are right. You it is uh you got a there's a there's a few good per uh tips out there, and I can I don't get it wrong, I'm I'm as guilty as an expert. I would I'm sure I'd do the same, but uh yeah, I'm I always caveat with don't listen to me. However, I think you might be going a little bit fast there. Um but yeah, yeah.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I um I uh caught up with uh Vic early in the week.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, you must be a mind reader as well. I was just about to bring up Vic.

SPEAKER_02

Oh yeah, go on.

SPEAKER_00

No, no, no, go on. I was just I was gonna I was gonna bring him into conversation.

SPEAKER_02

No, he he's he's carrying on with his training for his I don't know what his next event is actually gonna be, but he's he's carrying on his running. In fact, he's on the mainland. I've just seen his his few poems.

SPEAKER_00

I did. Freaking Adder. Oh yeah, did you see it?

unknown

You did.

SPEAKER_00

I at first I thought it was alive. I thought, who's he's kidding a bit?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I wouldn't have touched it, but um I think the way he launched it, it was obviously dead. Yeah, and he said, I'm assuming it was dead. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Or maybe he's just super hard and we're just you know.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he's carrying on the training. And there's another fella who's here, um, he works at the top office. He's he's out running. Um, and I'm tempted to get back out and do a bit of a running in the coming weeks. But after yesterday's golf, and I don't know if uh uh Anna told you this, but I got home and I sort of come at the show and I sent a Fran and I need your medical advice. Look at my knee here. Uh and I just had this almost golf ball size lump on the left hand side of my knee with no pain, but the higher up and on the right hand side of my knee, freaking agony and like burning hot. Um and that's just from playing golf and and I haven't well you know what that is, don't you? Why is that?

SPEAKER_00

That's a golfer's knee. I don't know what I don't really chat to those two, they're not qualified to give that information, mate. So just called me. And I would have told you golfer's knee there, mate. It's uh you know, everybody, yeah, you get it when you're playing golf.

SPEAKER_02

It's obvious, isn't it? I've only played golf once this year, so uh golfer's knee, mate.

SPEAKER_00

Your elbow was uh feeling a bit sore as well. That's uh do you know what that's called?

SPEAKER_02

Golf's elbow. That's right, yeah. See, you're catching on there, mate. We should open up a surgery. Uh here.

SPEAKER_00

Honestly, just call me up. Private healthcare, that's all you need. Just give me a call. I'll sort you out. Uh, what do you have? Some brufin?

SPEAKER_02

Uh nothing, mate. I haven't done anything. I don't like taking medication.

SPEAKER_00

So yeah, of course, yeah, yeah. I forgot that. You're just weird. Uh yeah, so you need so uh need brufin and uh rice. Uh rest ice compression elevation. I think that's it, mate. Boom. I think that is a well you can still have rice. Oh no, I just want to eat rice. Eat ri it adds broofing with your rice, is what you need to be doing. I think that's what it is.

SPEAKER_02

Eat rice. Uh, but yeah, it suddenly dawned on me that if I went running, you know, I'd I'd potentially I mean you you hate your knees anyway, let's be honest about this.

SPEAKER_00

You absolutely detest your own knees.

SPEAKER_02

So uh it's just to get fit, that's the only thing.

SPEAKER_00

Fitness. Stop just get to do the gym, mate. Do the weights. Oh, what's going on?

SPEAKER_02

We're I'm slowly building up our weight collection. Um, we uh ordered a 16 kilogram kettlebell to tell you.

SPEAKER_00

That's why the blood that's that's that's why bloody um uh Salonia's never got any room for any uh I didn't realise how heavy 16 kilogram kettlebell was.

SPEAKER_02

I was like, oh I just just get the 16. So I've got to buy one a month and so just grab a few bits.

SPEAKER_00

That is pretty heavy, mate.

SPEAKER_02

Uh and uh so I got the and I was like, yeah, I can't do half the exercises I've seen online.

SPEAKER_00

Um I was gonna say, yeah, because I do goblet squats and stuff like that, and I'm thinking, I don't I don't think even I mentioned it, I grabbed the uh um the 16 uh uh uh kilo um weight when I'm doing squats of it. I just kind of sit there and yeah.

SPEAKER_02

No. I I I I we've got a few sets of dumbbells now, and then the first kettlebell, that one turned up, and I I'd said to Harry, I said I'd go half now, I'll go and get the eight kilogram one. Um we can actually do something with it. Yeah. Um but I need to get a weights bench, um proper weights bench, other than um John's old high back chair that he used to drink whiskey in. Um that's not really I'm not sure that's designed for the uh for the for the fitness suite, although um um pub fitness perhaps, but uh exactly yeah, yeah. But that's in the garage, so yeah, I need to get a proper um bench basically.

SPEAKER_00

Have you um uh have you been online to check out the stats?

SPEAKER_02

Uh I I I am looking now. Um not doing too bad. Not doing too bad.

SPEAKER_00

We still haven't received, I mean anyway, it's not a begging story, but I haven't heard have you had any messages come through on Insta?

SPEAKER_02

No. Uh no, only the only one about the um I think our uh stickers arrived. Um I mean we're we've we've hit Madrid now. I don't know, I don't know in Madrid. No uh but we're we're popping up in all these other places. Um and I don't know why. Where's Marcia? Marcia, is that Spain as well?

SPEAKER_00

Is that um has um have you been checking the results for Digby? Has he made it uh into the um uh any good um saline events yet?

SPEAKER_02

I haven't no, I've been very poor. I've been so busy at work, so busy at work.

SPEAKER_00

Um if you listen, Digby, but let us know how you're getting on with your uh uh out on the sailing. Maybe we'll get some content from you.

SPEAKER_02

Maybe some of these uh spikes in some of these areas is because of all the people following his stern as he's winning the races.

SPEAKER_00

So exactly that, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Um India Wow first hit in the uh well it's not the first hit in Asia, but certainly in India. Uh we've got some listeners.

SPEAKER_00

Wow, yeah, Asia, mate. We're cracking Asia of Singapore.

SPEAKER_02

It's two percent of all our followers in Asia.

SPEAKER_00

Um America. How's North America? Anyone from uh no one's contacted us for that bloody uh I haven't had a phone call yet or a message saying, Oh, I've got a lovely house in San Diego. I'd love to uh uh uh lease to you. But the one from San Francisco, and then uh yeah, that's about it.

SPEAKER_01

Illinois, Iowa, um where else?

SPEAKER_00

Texas, yeah, Texas, Miami, but nowhere in San Diego. We need to uh uh um move on that. Maybe this if we don't call it uh when's the next boat to Briar, uh just mention San Diego in the title.

SPEAKER_02

Arizona. I think we just go I'll just put a hashtag San Diego or in fact. What what I mean you you'll know this, you've probably already already got your holiday itinerary sorted. What is what's big in San Diego?

SPEAKER_00

Um, well, the zoo. You mentioned to anyone San Diego or places straight away, first thing. Literally, zoo, yeah. But everyone said that. I've got a few friends who've lived over there, etc. etc. And they're gonna San Diego, nicest place in America to ever been.

SPEAKER_01

Really?

SPEAKER_00

Um, yeah, yeah, everyone I said, and then if it's not the first, it's second because they prefer Nashville. Um, but everyone raves about San Diego. Um, love it. Um, so I'm really looking forward to that. Just nice people, great people, very generous to the houses. Uh uh, but no, uh, lots to do. Um, the temperature, the well, the water is freezing cold because it is the uh Pacific. Um, but uh um, but yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Um, Anna will be in there, don't worry.

SPEAKER_00

Well, she a bitch cogort swimming, yeah. And with her new hip, she'll probably swim to Hawaiian back um on one day. I think the professional athlete she is. Yeah, yeah. It's an athlete she is. I mean, I think the doctor will make it as part of the deal, you know, with you getting this new super hip. Expect to see you.

SPEAKER_02

I've just I've just seen this, and I will be fucking annoyed because it's one of the first things it comes up to do in San Diego, whale watching. Right, don't take me, mate. Don't take me.

SPEAKER_00

I can't move for the whales are in there, mate. Literally, I'll be sick of it.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, just they're everywhere. Whale watching. Yeah, yeah, that looks epic.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so it should be good. Yeah, and it's uh a bit of a naval uh heritage there as well. Um, and uh, have you uh ever seen the TV series BUDS about the Navy SEALs? Obviously, the Navy SEALs did a basic training there as well, uh, on the beach. So I might fresh.

SPEAKER_01

Anna will be in on that as well.

SPEAKER_00

Well, Anna might be down over here, but she isn't. Ted's will be there with uh uh he keeps talking about uh joining the SPS or something like that. I'm like, yeah, crack on, mate, yeah, you do that, buddy. Um, we're getting over the Buds um to get help. You can just join him in Hell Week. If you haven't seen Buds, by the way, it's on YouTube. It's a great TV series. I haven't seen it.

SPEAKER_02

I'm gonna have to. Haven't yeah? No.

SPEAKER_00

Mate, look, yeah, I I it was Discovery, it was on. I'm pretty sure it'll be uh um on YouTube now. It is it's don't get wrong, um uh Hell Week is as the name suggests, um, and that's just their kind of entry-level kind of uh uh into the seals um selection almost. Um you don't it doesn't go any further than that because obviously off doing gnarly stuff, but yeah, it's if you haven't seen it, it's worth worth a watch. I might have a look.

SPEAKER_02

I'm not sure. I'm not sure I'll get Fran. And um well, as you're on here now, I might as well ask. Any any film tips again? Um we're gonna give you a second chance. Uh we've just finished the uh the the was it the night manager. Um we need to watch we need to watch a film tonight. Um I might be able to come up to Fran and say, Lee recommends Lee's recommend.

SPEAKER_00

Um no, we uh do you know what I will throw it back to you if you do get something let us know because uh I'm trying to convince Anna. I don't because she doesn't listen to the podcast, she didn't hear about the um uh my last choices being shockingly shit, stunt man or whatever it's called, full guy. The fall guy is shocking, don't watch it. Don't say that, I want to watch it.

SPEAKER_02

Don't mate. As I said to you the other week though, it has a place. Um but no, no, no, no, yeah, okay.

SPEAKER_00

It's um yeah, I'll give it a miss then. Well, I'm I'm I think yeah, okay. And as probably listened to bloody, what's it called again? Um medical program. What was it called?

SPEAKER_02

Oh, it wasn't uh Scrubs, it was the proper one, wasn't it? Host no, um no, um the one with George Clooney in it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Literally every time I sit down, if I got my TV on, she's got that on in the background. Um so that's how we that's how we're our life's gonna be. We don't sit down and listen to watch something together. We're or we haven't got something to watch together. So what we do is we just sit in the same room watching two separate things. Whoever gets in first gets a TV, the other person has to use a device with headphones in.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, so when when uh Anna's on her um recovery mode, then is she gonna be in the the downstairs bedroom and TV?

SPEAKER_00

Well, she allegedly she can get upstairs. Uh she reckons.

SPEAKER_02

I think you should start crowd uh funding for a Stannister lift, mate.

SPEAKER_00

Stannister lift for her. What yeah, not a bad idea. Um get her on there. But because she's a uh athlete when we need it.

SPEAKER_02

Or um there's a you could be a win-win. Um you could rig up a pulley and have fitness at the same time so Teddy can get some weights in, you can you can you know use it as a pulley, and it gets to go upstairs. Um no danger involved there whatsoever. Um, just the threat of having to have another hip replacement when it should someone trip, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um stand a stair left. No, standing there left.

SPEAKER_02

Or or just downstairs, move moving you downstairs, Anna.

SPEAKER_00

Should be fighting tents for the Xbox. Um I'm not sure about that. Well, she can share it. The two of them can stay down there, that'd be great.

SPEAKER_02

Why are you locking the door, Lee? No, no, if it let that program was it, that film Misery. Maybe we might watch that tonight. Anna locked in downstairs.

SPEAKER_00

I feel I if I I mean I don't watch it and I won't be watching it, but a few people are looking forward to Piggy Blinders have got some new movie out.

SPEAKER_02

So I used to watch that in the early. Well, the movie's out on Netflix, so uh I I I no, I'm not gonna watch it. The Fall Guy ruined the uh series for me when they made the film, so um, I'm not gonna watch Piggy Blinders, that will ruin the series. Yeah, uh, but I'm sure it is brilliant. Um, but uh yeah, recommendation. We'll we'll we'll spend all night looking at uh Netflix, Prime, whatever, everything else, uh trying to find a solution. But um something will come up.

SPEAKER_00

Sure, when you let us know, uh give us a shout, mate. I'll text you at three in the morning or four when you wake up. Yeah, yeah, I'll be up. Yeah, don't get wrong. When I go for an old man's piss, I normally I'd I take great joy on uh when people text me past nine o'clock, I take great joy in giving it a heart or a thumbs up uh at four or three in the morning and giving to my shit. That's what I have done though. I'd I you know I'm I'm not alone when I'm taking my um phone with me to the toilet, but uh I quite inadvertently uh as I pick up WhatsApp calling people and I'm like and and I there's a there's a guy on here, and I've literally it might be a listener, um, he's threatening. Um I've I've I've like called him twice, and one of them is like half five in the morning. I was like, shit. But I can't text him and say sorry, but dial. Um and then so I wake him at about seven o'clock that uh even then uh he just text back um uh butt dial uh question mark, and I was like, yeah, I didn't really want to call, I didn't want to text you again just to I was hoping I got away at it first time, so uh yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Oh I I've done that um same sort of thing as if it's WhatsApp or Messenger and hit the wrong button. But I I have to say, I don't like the newer phones. Um you know that it gets the face ID to open your phone. I hate that because especially now now that the sun's come out and we're all wearing hats and sunglasses and everything else, you it won't work. Um it doesn't work when you've got sunset. What kind of hat are you wearing, mate? Just baseball campaign. Mine works fine. Maybe it's because it says Brooks Kepco on it. I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

Um I reckon so, mate.

SPEAKER_02

No, it doesn't work. Well I've got shades on, so I have to take like tick tip the hat up to lift the shades up and whereas before I just put my thumb on the phone, opened it up. Brilliant. Uh technology.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, I'm not gonna lie to you, mate. I'd uh I'd probably get myself uh re-scanned because mine works fine. Hats on, glasses, a lot.

SPEAKER_01

Really?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

unknown

Oh god.

SPEAKER_00

It's not your it's not you don't really I mean, you know, without boring you too much. It's not it's not just the face, it's all sorts of um it does um when it's looking at you in scan me. LIDAR when it's scan yeah, exactly. Yeah, same names like that. Uh right anyway, um talking of uh uh and just looking at the time there. Poor Vic, he's trying to uh uh finish his run now, he's doing uh extra uh work here.

SPEAKER_02

So I I I gotta cook tonight. I'm off to collect pizzas. Um so yeah, excellent.

SPEAKER_00

And I can see Anna's got um um she's been deadly quiet uh in the corner and is now kind of using that hint now. By the way, I'm making dinner, so best of you.

SPEAKER_02

What's on the what's on the menu before you go?

SPEAKER_00

Uh we have um pan fried haddock, fresh haddock, freshly caught uh freshly caught from uh the fish man who comes around. Um I went out there and picked it from Mark, which is nice, and then uh so I'm hoping uh I can see Taritzo going in uh a little bit nervous. There was talk of chickpeas, and I've said if I see a chickpea, I'm jumping in the car and I'm getting a fucking uh takeaway. Um and part of me, she did look and say, Hmm, like look, she just got the chickpeas out.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm off.

SPEAKER_00

I'm I'll tell you what, if they don't have an addock, I'm off to uh get a curry tonight, mate.

SPEAKER_02

That's one way to hog all the haddock. Yeah, just chuck the ticket.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. Fair play.

SPEAKER_02

All right, mate.

SPEAKER_00

Right, please take it easy, buddy. I'll catch you next week. Uh see it next week. Take it easy. Cheers. Ciao
