Diary of a Cat Mom
Diary of a Cat Mom is a reflective cat podcast created and hosted by Dagmar Gatell about understanding cats more deeply — and creating a calmer, more connected life for both you and your cats.
Based on real experiences caring for over 50 cats throughout her life, each episode shares quiet observations, emotional moments, caregiving reflections, and gentle insights from everyday life with cats. From routines, behavior, and emotional wellbeing to grief, gratitude, overstimulation, trust, and the small meaningful moments many people overlook — this is not a traditional “how-to” podcast, but a space for understanding, awareness, and lived experience.
Beyond cat care itself, Diary of a Cat Mom also explores our connection to nature, emotional presence, personal growth, and the way our inner state can influence the animals who share our lives. Because living with cats is never only about feeding and routines — it’s also about energy, safety, trust, patience, and how we show up emotionally in the spaces we create together.
Created for cat lovers who see their cats as family, this podcast offers companionship, reassurance, perspective, and emotional support during seasons of caregiving, uncertainty, healing, change, and letting go.
Diary of a Cat Mom is a personal storytelling podcast and does not replace professional veterinary advice. Every cat is unique, and medical or behavioral concerns should always be discussed with a trusted veterinarian or qualified professional.
You’re not alone on this journey.
We’re learning, loving, and growing together — one paw print at a time.

In this episode of Diary of a Cat Mom, I reflect on moments of stress, frustration, and tension—and how quickly my internal state begins to shape the energy in the room. What I once saw as “behavior issues” in my cats started to reveal something deeper: a reflection of me.
This is a gentle shift from reacting… to becoming aware.

Diary of a cat mom. Today's diary entry, my overflowing energy, and my cat's reaction. You're listening to Diary of a Cat Mom. Today I want to talk about something I've been noticing in myself. What happens when I have too much energy. When I feel upset, angry, or stressed out, or tense when I have to record a podcast episode three times because my cats think it's so funny to jump on my laptop and to stop the recording. And how quickly my feelings affect my cats. Because in those moments I catch myself judging their behavior. Because what I'm starting to realize is it's not just them, it's really me. Because when my energy overflows, everything feels louder. Their moments feel more intense, their reactions feel more irritating, and I start labeling what they do instead of actually seeing what's happening right in front of me. And what I noticed is they react to that energy immediately, and one cat becomes tense, another one starts talking and imitating perhaps the weaker one, and then I even get more upset, and the whole situation is just starting to spiral then, and that's really a hard realization for me because their behavior is not random, it's a response, it's a reflection of the energy I bring into the space, and they're not trying to be difficult, it's more they're reacting to what they feel, and they really feel everything. So now I'm learning to do something different. So instead of labeling their behavior, I pause and I ask myself, what's the energy in this moment? Not just theirs, but really mine. And instead of letting myself overflow with my energy, I start grounding myself, slowing down and breathing, almost like I'm measuring the energy in the room and asking what do they need right now to feel balanced and to feel safe. And what I'm realizing is I can stop spiraling before it's even starting. Not by controlling them but by regulating myself. Because when I shift, they shift. Instead of going up, they're going balanced and rounded with me. So if I become early enough, I can change the direction for me and for them. So thank you so much for being here with me. This is Diary of Cat Mom. Don't miss the next entry. There's always another little moment, another lesson, and another story waiting to be shared. I will talk to you in the next entry.
