Diary of a Cat Mom
Diary of a Cat Mom is a reflective cat podcast created and hosted by Dagmar Gatell about understanding cats more deeply — and creating a calmer, more connected life for both you and your cats.
Based on real experiences caring for over 50 cats throughout her life, each episode shares quiet observations, emotional moments, caregiving reflections, and gentle insights from everyday life with cats. From routines, behavior, and emotional wellbeing to grief, gratitude, overstimulation, trust, and the small meaningful moments many people overlook — this is not a traditional “how-to” podcast, but a space for understanding, awareness, and lived experience.
Beyond cat care itself, Diary of a Cat Mom also explores our connection to nature, emotional presence, personal growth, and the way our inner state can influence the animals who share our lives. Because living with cats is never only about feeding and routines — it’s also about energy, safety, trust, patience, and how we show up emotionally in the spaces we create together.
Created for cat lovers who see their cats as family, this podcast offers companionship, reassurance, perspective, and emotional support during seasons of caregiving, uncertainty, healing, change, and letting go.
Diary of a Cat Mom is a personal storytelling podcast and does not replace professional veterinary advice. Every cat is unique, and medical or behavioral concerns should always be discussed with a trusted veterinarian or qualified professional.
You’re not alone on this journey.
We’re learning, loving, and growing together — one paw print at a time.

Diary of a cat mom. Today's diary entry Do my cats love each other? You're listening to Diary of a Cat Mom. If you live with more than one cat, you have probably wondered this too. Do my cats actually love each other? Or are they just tolerating each other? Sometimes it seems obvious. They sleep together, they comb each other and follow each other around. At other times they stare at each other, stalk each other across the room, or wrestle in ways that make you wonder if they are playing or if they're preparing for battle. As a cat mum, I never want to assume something is positive when it isn't. Or worry about something that's actually beautiful friendship forming. So in my multicat household, I have siblings who clearly adore each other. They lay next to each other, they creom each other, they head bump each other all the time, and they enjoy spending time together. When they play, it can be a little rough sometimes, but it never feels aggressive. Their body language stays relaxed and they both seem to enjoy it. Lately so I noticed something new. One of my shy siblings started spending more time with a sibling from a completely different litter. At first I wasn't sure what I was seeing. Were they becoming friends? Nervous around each other? Was one cat trying to dominate the other cat? I didn't want to follow my assumptions, so I started watching both more carefully. And I looked at their ears, I watched their eyes, and I paid attention to their whole body posture, and then listened to the sounds they make. So over time I realized they really bonded beautifully. The two runs of the litter, the smallest, the quietest, the most sensitive cats, they became bodies. So they started laying next to each other and one began chroming the other one. And what touched my heart most was that the younger shy cat seemed to absolutely love being chromed because usually he was the one giving affection to all the stronger older cats, but nobody croomed him. So little by little these two started spending their evenings together, and sometimes an older sibling joined them for a cattle session, too. But it took time for the different groups and cliques in my household to soften and plan together to make that possible. But now they all seem much more connected, and honestly it makes my cat mum heart very happy. What I learned is that cats show love totally differently than people do. Cats really like each other, they choose to be together even if they don't have to. They sleep touching each other, they're combing each other, especially around the head and the neck. They touch noses when they're creating the head bob or they're up against each other. They walk with their tails up to each other when they approach each other. They play in a relaxed back and forth way. It's the same room voluntarily. They eat near each other without tension. They wait for each other outside a door or outside a room, and the strongest sign I see is aloe chroming when one cat creoms the other cat because they help each other cleaning the places they cannot easily access. And that's really trust and affection, what they show. Another strong bond is when they sleep next to each other because cats they are vulnerable when they are sleeping. So sleeping next to each other means I feel safe next to you. And I think that's just a beautiful thing to watch. And just like people, cats can have friendships and they still can get annoyed sometimes. So the bigger picture really matters in that case. If they are consistently choosing each other's company and are they relaxed around each other? And if the answer is yes, then yeah, there is probably a real bond growing there. So sometimes love doesn't arrive with a grand announcement. Sometimes it arrives quietly. And a cat choosing to lay a little closer, gentle lick on a friend's forehead, shared nap on the sofa, calm evening spent together. It's just beautiful watching these two shy cats become friends and what trust can do and crow in these small moments together. So if you're ever wondering whether your cats love each other or not, don't just watch the big moments, watch for the little choices they make every day. Because sometimes the strongest friendships are built on quite cuddle at a time. And as a cat mom, there are a few things sweeter than seeing your cats choose and loving each other. Thank you for being here with me. This is Diary of a Cat Mom. Don't miss the next entry. There's always another little story, another lesson, another moment waiting to be shared.
