Diary of a cat mom. How to save on cat food. This is diary of a cat. Many people think expensive part of having a cat is vet bills. But when you have multiple cats, one of the biggest monthly expenses next to cat litter can actually be cat food. Over the years I discovered a few simple ways to save money on cat food without switching to lower quality food. Those savings add up month per month. When I only had one cat, I barely paid attention to the cost of the cat food because it was just a cat food bag here and another one there, and it really didn't make a difference. But as my cat family grew, I started paying attention much closer to what my spending were. And at the same time I learned about cat nutrition and ingredient quality in the cat food. So more I learned, the more I realized that many of the cheaper cat foods that often come with fillers and ingredients, I didn't want to feed my cats if I could avoid it. Challenge was that better quality food usually comes with a higher price tag. So that's when I started looking for ways to reduce the cost without reducing the quality, if that makes sense. One thing that helped was setting up recurring subscriptions for my regular cat food purchases. And since I buy the same dry cat food and the same wet cat food every month anyway, the subscription discounts really saved me little by little on every order. And depending on product and quantity, the savings, they ended up between a dollar or five dollars of every item. So at first it doesn't sound like you can save a much, but when you're ordering multiple products every month, those small discounts really add up over time, surprisingly, to a bigger amount. I also started paying attention to reward programs and credit card benefits exactly for that. So for example, some credit cards they offer cashback or they offer reward points that can be invested in funds or in stocks and also can bring a financial benefit over time. Another thing I notice is that farm and feed stores they often carry cat food and cat litter, and they have loyalty programs, bonus points systems, and financing options for larger purchases. So if you're buying cat food, cat litter, or other cat supplies regularly, it can be worth comparing the reward programs available where you shop right now to the ones where you could shop in the future. What I learned is that saving money on cat food isn't always about finding cheaper food. Sometimes it's really about using subscription discounts, taking advantage of loyalty programs, earning reward points on purchases you make, or buying bulk, right? Because the more you buy, the higher the discounts can be if it makes financial sense to you. And comparing retailers instead of automatically buying from the same place every time. None of these changes, they are traumatic, but altogether they really can help reduce our cost for cat food, cat litter, and other things we need for our kitties. So as cat moms and cat dads, we all want to provide the best care for our cats. And for many of us, that means balancing quality with butt food. The good news was for me that sometimes a few small changes in how we buy cat food can really save over time a lot and helps cover the cost for cat supplies and cat litter. Because at the end, every dollar we save on every day's expense is another dollar we can put towards keeping our cats healthy and happy and well cared for and us too.
