Diary of a Cat Mom
Diary of a Cat Mom is a reflective cat podcast created and hosted by Dagmar Gatell about understanding cats more deeply — and creating a calmer, more connected life for both you and your cats.
Based on real experiences caring for over 50 cats throughout her life, each episode shares quiet observations, emotional moments, caregiving reflections, and gentle insights from everyday life with cats. From routines, behavior, and emotional wellbeing to grief, gratitude, overstimulation, trust, and the small meaningful moments many people overlook — this is not a traditional “how-to” podcast, but a space for understanding, awareness, and lived experience.
Beyond cat care itself, Diary of a Cat Mom also explores our connection to nature, emotional presence, personal growth, and the way our inner state can influence the animals who share our lives. Because living with cats is never only about feeding and routines — it’s also about energy, safety, trust, patience, and how we show up emotionally in the spaces we create together.
Created especially for cat moms 35+ in multi‑cat homes who see their cats as family, this podcast offers companionship, reassurance, perspective, and emotional support during seasons of caregiving, uncertainty, healing, change, and letting go.
Diary of a Cat Mom is a personal storytelling podcast and does not replace professional veterinary advice. Every cat is unique, and medical or behavioral concerns should always be discussed with a trusted veterinarian or qualified professional.
You’re not alone on this journey.
We’re learning, loving, and growing together — one paw print at a time.

Can cats teach us how to be more present?
While giving Snow White her daily thyroid medication, I noticed something that completely surprised me. For those few moments, my attention wasn't on work, tomorrow's plans, or everything still on my to-do list. I was simply focused on her.
That realization made me see that my cats help me experience something I often struggle with in everyday life—being fully present.
In this Diary of a Cat Mom podcast episode, I share how caring for my cats has become a reminder to slow down, appreciate the moment, and feel grateful for the simple time we spend together.

Being present with my cats. Welcome to Diary of a Catum. The other day I caught myself as I was giving Snow White her thyroid medicine like this little cream on her ear totally focused on her body language, on making eye contact with her and sensing her energy because she really doesn't like it. It doesn't feel comfortable to her. While doing it and giving her the medicine, I'd like the second where I was aware of there was totally with her in the moment. There was nothing else in my thoughts, nothing else in my life, as just being focused, making sure she feels comfortable in giving her the medicine. And that really was like an aha moment for me. Because especially with the cats, I have that all the time. If I'm crushing the little ones and making eye contact with them, or if I'm preparing the food and they're waiting for me and I look down and connect with them. And it amazed me that it was so easy for me to be present with them right there in the moment. Didn't have another thought and didn't think about later, didn't think about tomorrow, didn't think about what happened. Yesterday, I was just there enjoying their company, enjoying that I'm able to feed them. Or like with Snow Whites to help her. And it made me so happy because I have such a hard time to be present normally. Like when I'm working, I have already the next thought or the next idea. So I have to stop myself, write it down so I don't forget it. Or when I'm talking with a friend, when I'm talking with a friend, I'm analyzing what they are saying, and then I have other thoughts coming in. So a lot of times really being present in the moment is not where oftentimes I'm already ahead of it, like next project, next idea, next day. What I have to do next week, or I'm thinking about what could have done better yesterday. But with the cats, it's so easy for me to be present and to really enjoy the moments and just be happy just because. And that amazed me. I did not recognize that before. I feel like it's a gift of that you can be just in the here and now and just be grateful and thankful for what you have and just feel in the second everything is great, everything is good, everything is wonderful, no matter what happens in five minutes. And this is something I don't want ever to miss in my life. And I'm so grateful for the kitties that they can give this to me. Do your kitties do the same for you? Do they help you to be more present, enjoy the moment, really deeply connect with them in the time you have together? I would love to hear about that. Please share in the comments. I always want to improve what I'm doing and become a better cat mom and become a at the end a better human being. So thank you so much for joining me in this diary of a cat mom. There's always another lesson, another story, another insight waiting to be shared right around the corner. Watch my next video and I will see you on the next entry. Bye.
