In Germany, three o'clock has long been associated with coffee and cake—a daily tradition of slowing down and enjoying a quiet break. Over the years, I realized I had unknowingly created my own version of that tradition with my cats.
Every afternoon, I step away from my computer, make myself a cup of tea, and spend a few peaceful minutes with my cats. They know exactly what time it is. They follow me through the house, waiting for cuddles, slow blinks, treats, or simply a little conversation.

Diary of a catmom. It's three o'clock somewhere. Welcome back to Diary of a Cat Mom. In Germany, three o'clock has always meant one thing. Coffee and cake. It's almost a little tradition. People stop what they are doing, sit down with a cup of coffee or tea, enjoy a piece of drum cake, and simply take a break. And somewhere along the way, I realized I had created my own version of that drum tradition. Every afternoon, I stop working just for a little bit. Because when you spend hours and hours sitting in front of the computer like I do getting up and walking around, it's just a healthy way anyway. Then I make myself a cup of tea, crab a little snake, and spend time with my cats. They already know. As soon as I get up around three o'clock, they follow me everywhere around the house. And they know mama is on a break. They know it's cuddle time. Sometimes they get a few treats. Sometimes they just want pets or slope links or just a little conversation with meows and asking them how they are doing. And I realized something. These little habits are not just good for us, they are good for the kitties too. My afternoon break helps me to recharge before I go back to work refreshing actually. But it also tells the cats that they are important in my life. No matter how busy my day gets, mama always makes time for them. Because cats they like routines. They feel safe when they know what comes next. And I think we humans too. Life doesn't always have to be about working harder. Sometimes the most meaningful moments are the smallest ones, the ones we repeat every day. A cup of coffee or tea, a piece of German cake, a have a cat asking for a cuddle. And a few quiet minutes that remind Bozo, we are together. Maybe that's why I still love the German coffee and cake tradition so much. It's not really about the cake, it's about making time, socializing, and being present with each other. Thank you so much for spending a few minutes with me today.
