So I need you to grab a friend, call him, text him, or a loved one, and say, hey, why don't you want to become a good man for the next hour? So strap up, listen in, put on your headphones, and enjoy the next hour with us. Here we go.

SPEAKER_01

Welcome to the good man show with Bruce Sauce and Lord Puck.

SPEAKER_00

Lord Puck, how are we doing tonight? It was a great night. It's I feel the Christmas bells ringing, even though we only have Thanksgiving coming up. I feel Santa coming in, honestly, hard and fast on the snow. Santa already? Santa already. I mean, hell, you put up the abominable snowman already on your roof from what I heard earlier.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I'm glad you brought that up. A lot of people ask, how's the lights coming? I finished the roof. We gotta do the trees probably tomorrow or Wednesday. Uh my youngest gave me the business about not turning them on yet, but the abominable snowman, he is strapped up to the chimney. Uh he's upper tank, he's looking good. He's fired up, and and I think the lights are gonna look great again this year. Um, and we're gonna do a big old snowflake in the front yard. So a lot to do still, but at least the hard stuff's done.

SPEAKER_00

Like Charlie Brown.

SPEAKER_01

Charlie Brown, man.

SPEAKER_00

Good man, Charlie Brown.

SPEAKER_01

I I like to uh I love Christmas, man. It's a fun time, but like I said, you got to get through Thanksgiving first. Uh a lot to be thankful for for us this year. Um, I talked to my little guys at practice the other day. I told them to make sure you tell your parents thank you for everything they do for them, provide for them. Uh it's it's just a great time of year, man. I'm looking forward to the good times with the family. Got to get the eating in. Uh, but speaking of Thanksgiving, right? Talked last week. Shirts are coming. Oh. Uh, orders in. Oh. Gonna be here after Thanksgiving. I think there's only one thing to say with Christmas coming, and that's ho, ho, ho, 2999. 299 to nine? Get your shirt. Orders have already started coming in. Reach out to Brew Sauce, text, call, email, however you want. Get the order in. It's hot.

SPEAKER_00

$29.99, and you can be a good man. That's the price of admission. That's the price of admission.

Practice Warriors And Player Spotlights

SPEAKER_01

That's it. That's the price. It's it's it's nothing. They'll come, Ray. They'll come. It's gonna be great. Uh, let's talk some Sparks North baseball, though. Uh, great week. Good practices once again. Uh, we got an off week coming this week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, obviously, with Thanksgiving, but gotta talk practice Warriors. 28 Jack Tribus, Glenbard West led us off on Tuesday with a great practice. Outfielder looking good, strong, physical, left-hand bat. Uh led into infield. We had Carson Edmonds, been here for a few years, friend high school, left-hand hitter, uh, starting to really grow, develop. He looks good. Leads us into Sunday. Uh, upperclassmen showed up early, looked good. Tanner Banya, catcher, switch hitter, uh really filling out, um, playing the game the right way, working hard, doing good stuff. And then I'm not gonna say the last name right here on our 29, but Patrick Bo. I think it's Bo, like Bo Nose. Like Bo Nose. Uh Montini. Uh the Broncos. The kid swings he swings it from the left side.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Uh love his energy. Uh, big frame freshman. Uh, kid looks great though, but it was a good week of practice. How what'd you think?

SPEAKER_00

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I'm I'm thankful for those guys and the spirit they showed up with. All four of those guys displayed what a good man is about, and that is the TWTW, the will the wind, bringing the fire, bringing the energy, bringing the passion, especially on a hard, cold Sunday morning, which it's very difficult to muster up sometimes, especially if you're a 15-year-old kid, because you're like, Well, why am I showing up to this? I don't need to show up to this. But they showed up and they did their job and they went a little above and beyond, and that's why they got the Warrior March. Oh, is that is that like a Chief call? I was watching the Chiefs game the other day. I was like, oh. So the Warriors are gonna get the Warrior call.

2026 Commitments And Player Development

SPEAKER_01

Oh well, if you see, I got my Bradley baseball channel. The Bradley Braves. The Bradley Braves had the chop. Uh, not many are able to do it anymore. The the Atlanta Braves, the Chiefs, but you know, that's another conversation we get into. But hey, I we got to go through our 26 grads right now, who are all committed. I want to throw some shout-outs to these guys. We've got a good group of kids. Uh, there's still more that are going to come off the board. Had a couple meetings this past week, talked to a few kids, but let's just run the list here. We got Johnny Andreich, Purdue University Northwest, Nathan Barnett's, University of Wisconsin, Whitewater, Abraham Cassairs, Milwaukee Area Technology College, uh, Nathan Sierra, Parkside, UW Parkside, Jacob Conover, Missouri Southern, Frank Costav, University of Illinois, Chicago, Reese Domino, Edgewood University, Colin Dwyer, Ohio Wesleyan, Jackson Frum, big from, love you, man. Grove City, Connor Griffin, Rollins College, uh Hayden Harrington, and Blake Howard Higher, Holy Cross, Evan Mendiola, Lewis University, Chase Nelson, Harper College, Nate Rickenbrode, Carthage College, Lon Roberts, Webster University, Landon Tomey, Tennessee, Brandon Thompson, Purdue, Nico Vasquez, Oaton College. Who you like off that list right there?

SPEAKER_00

Let's take a let's take a moment of not silence, but uh I don't that was a long list, man.

SPEAKER_01

It's a good list. Every year we have a good list. Really? Yeah? Wow.

SPEAKER_00

You would have fooled me. I don't think so. You're right. I lied. I'm not surprised by any of that. Um, no, I I mean that there's a ton of lists, a ton of names on that list. Um, not surprised by any of it. Uh I'm gonna talk about the ones I'm I worked with the most, probably, even though I worked with all of them in some capacity. Uh, the ones um Evan Mendiola, we've had since he was 13, if I'm not mistaken. And he's actually just in catching camp. What a kind soul that kid is.

SPEAKER_01

He's awesome.

SPEAKER_00

Uh we had um we had actually one of your players in catching camp for this hour, uh Jack. Um, Jack Allison. Yep. Hardworking kid right there. Rough nose kid. But I paired him with uh Lukas Stoyakovich and Evan Mendiola just because that would I figured that would have been the easiest group for him to transition to because how friendly and kind they are. But speaking specifically to Evan, just a good kid that just came in every day, comes in every day, whether it be for some days I think he just came for the social aspect, and then other days he came to work hard, but he still came. Yep. And for him to seeing where he started and now gonna go play at the division two level, I'm not surprised, proud, thankful. Um, Nate Sarah, same exact thing.

SPEAKER_01

Um uh Lonnie Roberts, that kid baseball player, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Uh I've had the privilege of working with him even in this stome. Um, just oh like if you look at all those kids, those are kids you can sit down and have a cup of coffee with for half an hour to an hour and talk to them. And I think beyond their baseball abilities, that speaks more to their character and how we develop and foster it in here. And I'm proud of that. Like Reese Domino, Jackson Fromm.

SPEAKER_01

Yep.

SPEAKER_00

Um I had the privilege of coaching them when they were 13 there too. And it and oh now I'm I'm old now, oh no. Oh I know. We're getting up there. These kids are getting older. Yeah, and then Chase Nelson, the third Chase Nelson I've had the privilege of being with, and Harper, the Harper Hawks flying high. I mean, we can go on uh like a half hour talk about what Dom Milano's doing over there at Harper. Love you, Dom. Um in terms of and also it like the larger discussion, junior college baseball is becoming more prevalent, especially in this day and age, and just for all the kids that are listening, listening to us out there, there is no shame in going to play junior college baseball, especially in today's environment.

SPEAKER_01

No.

SPEAKER_00

You I'm not saying it's guaranteed you're going to play, but the odds are in your favor that you are going to play. I'm not saying it's not a guarantee. With anything you have to compete. And so I'm glad that kids are accepting that more. It's becoming more of a cultural norm. And I think it it already should have been, but now it's being accepted more just because people are becoming a little bit smarter and looking at the landscape. And then also save your parents money. I mean, it's nearly the exact same education you're getting um at any other school. It's the two years gen eds. There's nothing wrong with it.

SPEAKER_01

100%. Like you said, they they go there and they compete against 18 and 19 year olds. You go to a university, four years old, you got 24-year-olds here. Like I had a- 26. I hope not. But I do oh no, yeah. But I mean, I I had a meeting with one of our uh uh 17-year-olds today, and it's him and his dad, and we're talking, and I was saying the same thing. Like, junior college for most of these kids is the route. We have a lot of coaches inside this building. We talk about our staff who have played junior college baseball and then gone on and played elsewhere. Like it's it's just the way of the world, it's it's the landscape of it.

SPEAKER_00

Um, like you said, uh And it weeds here's the thing it weeds people out, and because um people have a lot of junior college stories, and I have a lot of friends, and uh specifically myself as well. The coaches at that level aren't the most pleasant people to deal with. Uh that I'm just speaking from experience and other people's experience, and the conditions are usually totally against you, and it's not even sometimes even with the coach, it's with the field, it's with the practice environment, it's where where you have to practice, when you have to practice, how you have to practice. And if you truly don't love the game of baseball, you're gonna quit after a year or two years. Yeah, or you're gonna figure some things out and find yourself out.

Coaching Chemistry With Nikki C

SPEAKER_01

And then you advance. Correct. And I think a lot of like D D1 schools go grab kids out of the junior college because they go through some tough times and learn some stuff and get themselves better. So I agree with you. I think it's great to see a lot of our kids committing. I know we still have, I don't know, a handful of 10 more, in my opinion, 26s that are gonna go off the board here at some point. Uh I can't wait to see it. Like you said, some of these kids have been here since they were 12, 13 years old, and to see them getting to that point, uh uh it's just fun. It's the reward we get of what we do. So uh great list, boys. Keep working. Love you guys. Uh, we got a special guest in the house tonight, though. Nikki C. Welcome to the show, bud.

SPEAKER_02

Nikki C is in the house.

SPEAKER_01

Ooh.

SPEAKER_02

Gabago.

SPEAKER_01

So we had to bring Nikki C in. We got a lot to talk about. Uh first thing though, Nikki C, I gotta ask you, man, you've been coaching with Josh how long now?

SPEAKER_02

Ten years. Yeah, 2015.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, decade.

SPEAKER_01

For those of you who know, Josh is sometimes a roller coaster. And Nikki C has been with this man for 10 years now.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. I gotta ask what's the road life like with Josh? I mean, you spend a lot of time in hotels room with this guy and and driving in the Bronco.

SPEAKER_02

In the Bronco. Right?

SPEAKER_01

And what's the people wanna know what's it like?

SPEAKER_02

Um, I believe you said a roller coaster. Scary one. Like what a hundred foot drop straight down sometimes. Wow. What? And then sometimes you coast. And it's nice. No, it's great working with Josh. It uh I think we compliment each other. Um we argue, but I think that's a good thing because at the end of the day, no one's right, no one's wrong, but we let it out and we move forward.

SPEAKER_01

I I have to say, and if anybody's ever shown up to these guys' games, and I do many, many times, the color coordination of the outfits. I mean, these guys, if you show up to their game, they have same shirt, same hat, same shoes. I mean, they are I mean, it it's amazing.

SPEAKER_02

Gotta look good.

SPEAKER_01

When is this discussed? And how is this discussed? And who and who's driving who's driving the train to pick this stuff?

SPEAKER_02

Josh, you want to take this one? It's really like a deception.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, it's it it it goes back and forth. Um sometimes that's an argument too. Yeah. Well, because sometimes he doesn't bring the right shirt because we have we have a rotation of black, red, or white, and or sometimes cream, and then the hats vary. And uh again, we go about it the night before, it goes back and forth, we decide, he'll text me, and then I'll text him, and then we'll go back, and then sometimes, you know, a couple times we have showed up uncoordinated, but we always have a spare spare shirt in the trunk or whatnot. And again, we just want to make sure that we're all on the same team. You know, when the kids are in the boat looking for the lighthouse, that light, we can't have a green light and a purple light. That is one beaming light. And Nikki C and I are that light, and and that goes all the way straight down to the uniform. So to answer your question, it's usually done the night before or the morning of in the hotel room.

SPEAKER_01

Gotcha. I I I'm telling you, I've showed up for five years now. We've been running for five years, and you guys have been coaching together. And every time I show up, I just laugh to myself.

SPEAKER_02

It's usually your first comment.

SPEAKER_01

It is usually my first comment is hey, like love the outfits, great job. It's like it's like if Jake and I walk in this dome wearing our Sparks North red shirt, it's always Well, you do.

SPEAKER_00

That's the scary thing. You guys don't even talk about it, and sometimes you do show up in the same stuff.

Storytime: Ejection, Rivalry, And Origins

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we have a very it's almost like people ask us all the time if we're twins. We aren't twins. He's six years older than me. He's the oldest, I'm the youngest. There's two in between us. But Jake and I have this like I don't know, man, it's weird. We have this connection like we're like we're like we are twins where I at times I grab that shirt and I'm like, nope, not wearing that today, because Jake's gonna be at the dome and I guarantee he's wearing it. But uh one other thing I gotta cover with you though, Nikki C is the camera work you provide it it's it's first class, man. And I I guess say, one, where'd you where'd you learn it? Two, does Josh direct it or do you kind of be like, hey, listen, back off. I got this.

SPEAKER_02

No, it's really just a timing thing. It's just a timing thing. I don't know what it is, but I I know when to bring the camera out, and uh something usually happens.

SPEAKER_01

And when you guys are watching this, like what what what's going on behind the scenes here? Like how how we editing this, like who who's making the cuts?

SPEAKER_02

Oh, I I definitely cut it. You you're the man? Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, I when I see it, I love it. The work is fantastic. That's good. It's um it you really you really bring the best out in Josh, which which it we're all thankful for because we need it. Like I said, when we hit that, when we hit that downside with this guy, it's tough. Oh, yeah. Uh I mean you know more than anybody. Um hit us with what what's the food life like on the road? Because I know the guy, he loves his blueberries. Uh back the blue. Back the blue back the blue. Culvers, love you.

SPEAKER_02

Always, always that that's a lot of the road. We do some Texas Roadhouse or Longhorn, you know.

SPEAKER_00

It's a rotation. Um back the blue culverts. Uh, if actually we have a video straight out of culverts that we made. We uh actually got the culverse people to work with us. I've I've seen it.

SPEAKER_01

It's a great, it's a great video.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, Nikki C was kind of shy about doing it, but then I no to the speaker this guy's brilliance. Um, I go to the bathroom and I come out and he already has the intro done. And he I said, How did you think of this? He said, Oh, I I literally just thought of it right now. And that's you can't put a price tag on ingenuity, and that's what Nikki C has. He just knows when and where. And to talk about like the timing of things, he just knows. And that's that's a creative person. It's like he's a good man. He is a good man, good man, and so it's Chick-fil-A, Chipotle, um, culverse, lawncorn, and Texas Roadhouse, and then Fogo de Chow when we're around here. We get the$10 burger at Fogo de Chow.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

What about the indie MPL dinner?

SPEAKER_00

Which one?

SPEAKER_01

The one we go on.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, Ruth Chris. We hit up Ruth Chris one time in our pajamas.

SPEAKER_01

Well, uh, you know, we we were dressed appropriate. It was a two-chain line. In my opinion.

SPEAKER_00

We were two chains line. I show up to Ruth Chris in my pajamas and still get service. Where did we go last year? Um, oh, no, wait.

SPEAKER_01

Was where was that place downtown Indy? This guy drags me into the war zone driving a car in no man's land. He can't even back up in this place.

SPEAKER_00

And this guy did BAM, bam, here we go with this routine. He gets rear-ended. And um, I felt so bad. Because, you know, I I just felt bad. He got hit hard. But that dinner was great.

SPEAKER_01

It was. I Ethan still talks about the steak. Hey, Dad, you think the steak's as good as the one from Indy?

SPEAKER_00

Ethan's a good man.

SPEAKER_01

He is a good man, he's a good kid.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

But uh Nikki, see, it's great to have you on the show finally, bud, and and we appreciate the insight about Josh. Uh uh We got a little bit of a story time. The story time is coming along, so hit me with it, Blood.

SPEAKER_00

Story time is brought to you by Newman's Corner Pub for all your food, gaming, and social needs. Head over to Newman's Corner Pub. Go find the manager. His name's Jeff. He's a great guy.

SPEAKER_01

Great man.

SPEAKER_00

Tell him Josh sent you. And maybe you'll get a discount. I don't know. But they're sponsoring the this the segment here, Storytime, with uh Lord Puck and Bruce Sawson now. Nikki C?

SPEAKER_01

So, baseball stories only. We had a great one last last week. My mother even told me, she goes, I didn't know that. I said, Well, now you do. And I said, I got a good one this week. It's gonna tie Nikki C into it. Um, for those of you who don't know, okay, uh, running the Sparks North was not my first place. I was. I used to run a youth organization. Right? And at this point, I did not have kids uh old enough to play baseball. So I had coached, you know, my best youth team that I felt I had. And uh so, you know, I'm coaching my uh 13-year-old team. We had a pretty good team, uh, some good arms, pretty good shortstop. Yeah uh playing out in a tournament and wheeling. And in tournament and wheeling heritage park. Basically, you got I want to say you played four pool play games and then got reseated or bracketed based on how you did. And uh we went into our fourth game and we were already guaranteed into the bracket. And uh, you know, for those of you who know me in the game of baseball, may or may not know that you know I've had my fair share of ejections and uh as a player, as a coach, and not saying I'm proud of it, but listen, there's a time and place that you gotta handle umpires, and we got some disagreements, and I think some umpires are more approachable than others.

SPEAKER_03

And you care.

SPEAKER_01

Well, you're correct a hundred percent. I care, and and I always tell my players that I have their backs and they don't ever have to talk to the umpires that I will handle it. So play happens in the field. I I disagreed with the call and I asked the umpire, actually fairly politely, in my opinion, of what he saw, and he just walked away from me. And I started walking towards him, I said, Hey, where'd you have him tagging him? And he once again ignored me. So at this point, I'm like, Cool, you don't want to be approachable. Now I'm coming at you. I walked all the way towards him, the guy turned around, he goes, You take one more step, you're out of here. And I was like, Well, that's fine, I'm gonna keep walking. So then he throws me out of the game. I I stayed out there still talking to him and still talking to him, and then he told me if I didn't walk away, he was gonna forfeit the game. And then at that point, I was like, Cool, go ahead, forfeit the game, it helps save my pitching for the bracket. So I get thrown out of the game, and then basically I have to serve a one-game suspension. Well, Josh and Nikki C, who I did not know at this time, were coaching a 13U Mudcat team, and uh they were watching the game. And Josh, who is a very observant coach, uh, and watches other coaches and players, saw this happen to me and gets all giddy inside because now he's like, he's out, he can't coach.

SPEAKER_00

I turn to Nicky Siego, we got him. He correct. Because no, uh you forgot that we played you in the pool play. We did, and we beat you. And I yes, I I remember because he was I think it was like 85 degrees outside. And I walk up to the plate meeting, this guy's dressed as Men in Black, part three, and in a full um hoodie, not a hoodie, but one his his his um trademark hooded long sleeves, and he had the sweatpants on and black shoes, and it was hot outside, and there was zero reason unless he was trying to be Johnny Cash, the second coming, for him to be wearing this. And so I come up and he has this whole demeanor about him, and I'm like, Okay, you know, you know, okay. We go through the play, mean I come back to the dugout and I turn to Nikki C. I go, This guy's a jackass. And then so we lose, and then now we go back fast forward, and I once he gets thrown out, turn to Nikki C. I go, we got him.

Dating Misadventures And New Hope

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so we go into the game, and I'm sitting at the game because I still am present, and we we have a very close game, and I'm trying to make moves from left field and coaching these guys, and and they end up winning the game because Noah, Josh's brother, was on the mound and threw a heck of a game, and we lose, and Josh will still tell me to this day that you know he's one and one against me, and I try to claim to him like you've never beat me as a coach, you beat my team only because an umpire was so unapproachable that I couldn't coach a game. But we had crossing paths a long, long time ago, and it's funny because I probably thought the same thing about Josh is that I don't like this guy, and that's why I beat you when we actually coached against each other. No, and I had no idea that Nikki C was there, and and now how the cycle has worked, that we've we've all come together and we joke about that story a lot, and it's funny that Noah was the pitcher that the game to win the game because they did beat us and they were a very good team. Uh Connor Lash was on that team, correct? And Owen Rivero in here and Owen wow, yeah, a couple other 23s that graduated from here, but it's it's just this the the baseball stories that come about, and if you were in this game long enough, uh I always say it is baseball is a very big world, but it's a very small world as well.

SPEAKER_02

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Do you remember anything about that, Nikki C?

SPEAKER_02

I remember Noah throwing a gem.

SPEAKER_00

Funny thing about that, and for all you I'm sure some coaches are listening, so quick story about that. Noah actually was coming off of five terrible starts before that, where he got his he got he got kicked in for lack of a better term. And so we had an 8 a.m. Well, we I know we played you the same day at 8 a.m.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And I we're driving in, and I'm obviously I was his driver the entire all the years I coached him, and I said, dude, we're gonna need you at some time during this day or tomorrow, and you gotta somehow flip the script. And I played a lot of Rocky motivational stuff to that kid. And so anyway, we get through and we lose, and then I'm I'm driving back, and I'm like, dude, you're gonna have to pitch. Kid was petrified, scared, one of the most scared times I've seen him. And if both of you know him, he's really not a scared kid, but it it was just such a he took so many lumps, and anyway, he bounced back on that.

SPEAKER_02

And that was 13, you know, is a different Noah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Different Noah. Noah C.

SPEAKER_00

Noah C, we love you.

SPEAKER_01

But that it's funny. It was it was a good time, good stories. Good vibes, good vibes, good times, good times, right? So, hey, heading to the next part, I gotta tell you, I've had a lot of people ask me about this. Uh a lot of people are wondering what's going on with Josh's dating life. They heard the story last week. A lot of excitement, a lot of, hey, let's see what happened. One week later, seven days later, where are we at?

SPEAKER_00

Um, Nick, you wanna you wanna uh you wanna say what I was saying last week?

SPEAKER_02

I think we just end that story and get to the next one.

SPEAKER_00

So anyway, quick quick sum up. That woman I met, Jewel. Um His wife.

SPEAKER_02

I texted him Taylor's like, a week ago today, you had a wife.

SPEAKER_00

And now?

SPEAKER_02

Now you don't.

SPEAKER_00

Hey.

SPEAKER_02

Maybe a nude wife though.

SPEAKER_00

Chips fall where they may. Yep. All right. Uh we went, we had a date, played mini golf. Now, love the place out in Oakbrook. I'm not gonna name drop them, but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.

SPEAKER_01

You said it last week. You got a free round.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, I did, I did say it. Oh, putt shack, you guys.

SPEAKER_01

You were so light.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. So, you know, I I asked to go on another date, and she didn't respond for a couple days, okay? And you know, for all you young men out there or old men, if they don't respond after a couple days, that ship has sailed. All right, but I still had hope.

SPEAKER_02

Like the teletubbies.

SPEAKER_01

I still think that picture's what ruined the dude was a teletubby in a coffin. And he thought that was gonna work. I'm like, even I know not to do that.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that was a rough one.

SPEAKER_00

Hey, I have a mind, alright, a vibrant mind, and sometimes some people I you know, my first love. Yeah, yeah, my first love told me this, and I'm I'm sure it goes for both of you in this room as well. I remember we're sitting down at dinner one time, she said, Josh, they're either gonna love you or they're gonna hate you, and there's no in between. And so what I've learned is I'm just gotta be myself, and people are like, hide yourself for the first few dates. Well, that's like me telling a ball player, don't show the coaches that you can hit 450, all right? 450 with some swag, all right? That's let me let me hide that, you know, put that in a box. No, I'm gonna show out. And if you don't like those numbers, I'm whatever, man, okay? So she left. It's it's fine, you know, and people are like, this guy's not fine. Yes, I am, all right? Because it's not, I hate saying people like it's a numbers game. It's not a numbers game, okay? It's not, alright? And so some people, you know, take the lumps, think about it for a few days, and you just gotta move on, alright? Because, you know, it's tough out there in these streets. It's cold, it's mean, all right? So, but it doesn't matter because we bounced back. I went out with a girl from Philly yesterday, all right? After the Eagles lost, we decided to share a slice of pie.

SPEAKER_01

From where?

SPEAKER_00

I mean, it was okay. I'm I'm not gonna rant and rave about this pizza. It was okay, but it was a great conversation. An hour conversation. No teletubbbies were mentioned. And where did you meet this lovely lady? Hinge.

SPEAKER_01

I don't even know what these things are, Nikki C.

SPEAKER_02

I like the jewel route.

SPEAKER_01

I thought the jewel route was good, too.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you know, but women, I I I don't know. I love women. I so I just it's just like I so that's a start. Yeah. I and an end. And like closing time said, every beginning starts with a beginnings end.

SPEAKER_01

Here we go.

SPEAKER_00

Um so no, uh, we'll see where this goes. Um I kind of messed up. Um in the middle of this con I don't even think I've told you this yet. In the middle of this conversation, um, she told me that she was going back to Philly for Thanksgiving. And um, and I was like, Oh, when's your flight? And she said, Oh, on Wednesday. I said, Oh, wow. She's like, Yeah, early one. I was like, Oh, what how early? 3 a.m. I was like, Oh, how you getting there? And she's like, Uber. And I felt bad. So I said, You need a ride? And she said, Are you serious? I go, but at this point, it's too far gone. You know, it's like the Titanic sinking. So I was just like, might as well just go on the lifeboat here. And I said, Yeah, sure. And she goes, Wow, you're so nice. So I'm stuck for a 3 a.m. O'Hare call tomorrow with the woman I just met the other day.

SPEAKER_01

Nothing wrong with that. Well, I woke up this year. You're a nice person. You make a kind gesture. Yeah. You have a big heart. Yeah. Those are the kind of things you want to do. And I get it, you just met her and you're you're whatever, but at least she took you up on it.

SPEAKER_00

I don't like people taking Ubers to the airport, and she has no family out here to take her, so I was just like, yeah, but then I woke up, I was like, man, was that a good move? I think it is.

SPEAKER_02

Better than the teletubby move.

SPEAKER_01

This guy with the teletubby.

Bears Momentum And NFL Outlook

SPEAKER_00

Okay, if anyone's quick one, if anyone's running out of Teletubbies came up, we were in line for an hour before we teed off and we were talking about childhood shows that we watched, and Teletubbies were one of those shows, and she we were talking about whose Teletubby would be, and I said I would be Tinky Winky. Do you know all the Teletubbies? Tinky Winky. Well, I had a birthday party. We both shared this, a common birthday party. Uh Tinky Winky, Lala, Dipsy, and Poe. Alright? Just like in all the Berenstein Bears. Father bear, mother bear, sister bear, and brother bear.

unknown

Amazing.

SPEAKER_01

Guy.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And you know their colors, obviously, yes?

SPEAKER_00

They were color coordinated. Yeah. Purple, yellow, green, and uh red. And the sun.

SPEAKER_02

And the sun.

SPEAKER_00

I think we had the sun in the our catching camp tonight. You had the sun in the catching camp?

SPEAKER_01

All grown up. All grown up. These guys. Nikki C, can you tell us our your your favorite dating moment of Josh? Because you've known him how long?

SPEAKER_02

Ten years. A favorite.

SPEAKER_01

Hit us with your favorite.

SPEAKER_02

Off the top of the head.

SPEAKER_01

What comes to mind?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Big bowling date guy.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, alright.

SPEAKER_02

I don't have a point. I can't think of my favorite.

SPEAKER_00

It's not so hard, apparently, if you have so many. I mean, they're free-flowing like uh Aquafina.

SPEAKER_02

Thanks. Honestly, the jewel one was great. Off the top of my head, I can't think of anyone that stands out like that.

SPEAKER_00

Come on. Come on.

SPEAKER_02

I got nothing.

SPEAKER_00

I I I asked for a girl's number, I think, in front of you. On the road.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, you did leave a little note. Did I tell you about the Oh, you had a you had a didn't you have like a player leave a note one time? There you go.

SPEAKER_00

Here we go. Badard passes to Frank Nazar. He should he scores. Alright.

SPEAKER_02

So how about Yeah, it was like a year later they finally texted you, right?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

How'd that go?

SPEAKER_00

So I'll tell the story, Nikki. See. So a couple years ago, um our 25 class, we're in Iowa. Don't miss you. Um we're in Prospect Meadows, and um one of my players left my number for a waitress, and they came to the game. Joey Gaynor said, Coach, coach, coach, we left your number with the waitress. We think she'd be a perfect setup for you. I was like, all right, I thought nothing of it. Fast forward to this last August, I get a text. Mind you, that was in 2023. Right? This August? Wait, no, 2024? Yeah, 2024. Yeah, 2024. Uh, I was in 2024. She texts me a year later, this August. She said, Hello, this is so-and-so from Iowa, blah, blah, blah. And I said, Do I know you? She said, one of your players left your number with me a year ago, and I just figured I'd text you now and see how you were doing. And uh, yeah, I have her number. I possibly could text her right now. She's a nice lass. Sweet, sweet girl. Yeah. That was probably the most random one. They said I was uh six foot two, though. They lied. For you guys that know I'm not. Not six, two. Six foot, seven foot, eight foot, bunch. I'm the size of a teletubby.

SPEAKER_01

In a coffin. All right, on on to the next one. Enough about Josh's dating. Uh, at least people kind of get a little uh insight on where you're at. Obviously, people are still rooting for you. I'm rooting for you, buddy. Thank you, thank you. You're you're you're a good man. You deserve a good lass. Thank you. Uh, you will find one one day, and she will take care of you and treat you right. So let's talk.

unknown

Taylor.

SPEAKER_01

The Bears. Have won eight of their last nine. Did you know that? Who knew? Who knew? Bo. Bo knows. Oh no's. Bo does know. But Bears, big win again this week. Uh had to come back once again and do it. Your boy Caleb threw three tutties. Right? Um, what do you got for us?

SPEAKER_00

Manung guy is still that guy. And you know, I hate for people to get hurt, but Jalen Johnson kind of thank you because we would never have known of our guy.

unknown

True.

SPEAKER_00

Uh he he uh he's playing the wrong position. You know, he continues to make Odell Beckham type interceptions. Yeah. Ben Johnson said it's one of the greatest picks he's seen. Yeah. And you know, here's I was texting Nicky C during the game and a couple other people. Um when we had the strip sack fumble touchdown um in the end zone from TJ Watt. Um I I wasn't worried. I mean, I don't think we've turned the ball over from him. Caleb hasn't turned the ball over in how many weeks?

unknown

I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

I think it was yeah, you can't even remember. Yeah, not often.

SPEAKER_00

And so again, that guy, I think, is the second highest paid edge rusher in the NFL on a team known for its defense. So I'm not surprised that that happened. And I'm not disappointed that that happened. It I mean, we were kind of due. Now, what I expected was for us to come back, and we did, and I was, I think I have the text thread. I said, We're good, because we have a welcome to Bears Game Day chat. If you want to get added to the chat, just let me know. Um, it's a bunch of wild wackos in there, but um someone said, We're cooked. And I said, Are you not watching this game? And again, we are the new Bears. So we're I knew we were gonna go down and win. I had no and then it's Mason, and the next Nikki C said it's Mason Rudolph in the chat as well. I wasn't scared. Now, if Aaron Rodgers were there, probably might have went a different way, but you know, we never know. Like Kanye said, I guess we never know. You know, so again, I'm not surprised. I mean, Nikki C, what I what did you what do you feel about these Bears?

SPEAKER_02

They're good. They find a way. That's in a one-game winner-take-all kind of sport. That's kind of all that matters. Find a way.

SPEAKER_01

They win all the close ones so far. It's nice to see us be on the other side of the close games. And we'll see what happens. Six games left. Tough stretch. Tough stretch down the road, but we have a lot of momentum. It it's interesting seeing the Bears in a top three slot of a playoffs. I mean, when's the last time you saw that?

SPEAKER_00

Back in Urlacher. Back in Urlacher days. You know, I was talking to my brother Caleb today. He's like, You're no real Bears fan. And I said, you know, I was there when Thomas Jones was running around, and Cedric Benson. Thomas Jones, biggest biceps in the league. Yeah, that guy could run. And uh, and you know, I just say Cedric Benson? Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

The holdout?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Holdout Benson. What a bum.

SPEAKER_00

But no, that was the last time. Here's the thing, people like turnovers aren't sustainable. They keep getting them. They do. So I oh, I'm not gonna argue that. And then the Eagles, um I'm not scared of no Eagles.

SPEAKER_02

This is a good time to play them, too.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I'm not scared of no Eagles, you know. So we just gotta win two more, two or three more. But I I have to stop thinking like that, because I think we're a good ball club. And with that in mind, uh, we're gonna go win two or three more. We might win four, because I can see us sweeping the pack. Easily see us sweeping the pack. Go beat Dan Campbell, wants to do everything on the sidelines, you know. Yeah, man, we're gonna go for fourth down, five, six times, man. Might not make any sense, man, but we're gonna do right here, man. In my Chili's commercial, man. So we're gonna go beat them. And then now the only team I'd be scared is Brock Purdy and the Niners, because Michael, I'm sorry, not Michael Shanahan, Kyle Shanahan is uh someone I'd I'd be scared of, and um, but oh, you know, we're the Bears.

Thanksgiving Plans And Food Talk

SPEAKER_01

So yeah, I agree. The 49ers, I think, when healthy are a very good football team, and I think they're hitting their peak right now, and I think they're gonna slingshot right into the playoffs and do some damage, and you gotta watch out for them. They play tough side of football. Um, good defense, but I'm with you. I I think we can take both from the pack. Uh, I don't think I'm as anti-Dan Campbell as you are. I'm not anti-Dan Campbell. It's just I've heard this man talk Dan Campbell. We need Dan Campbell, and we need a guy like this, and this guy I like Dan Campbell, okay? And now you're just dogging the two. I like Dan. It's unreal, but MCDC. I'm with you. I think we can match up against the Lions and take care of business. And it's a big that's gonna be last week of the year. It could be a big week. Uh, it could be for the division. Um, but I'm with you. I'm excited to watch the Bears play the Packers here soon. Uh since I can remember, I I don't know how many times we really beat that team, and it's frustrating to watch last year. Okay, one time in the last 10 years. Great.

SPEAKER_02

Like 1-0 in the last one.

SPEAKER_00

Hell yeah, Nikki C. You see, that's why Nikki C is that guy.

SPEAKER_02

No, I do get like a 2015 Cubs vibe with this Bears team. Overachieving.

SPEAKER_01

Well, you just lost me.

SPEAKER_02

Just the vibe of the overachieving. Yeah, he doesn't know anything about that.

SPEAKER_01

This is okay. For those of you who know, I'm a big Sox fan. Cubs fans of me, you know, it it just come on, man. The Cubs didn't win for over a hundred years, and now we got Cubs vibes. Like, we don't want that.

SPEAKER_02

2015 Cubs vibes.

SPEAKER_01

All right, well then I want 2005 White Sox vibes.

SPEAKER_02

There you go.

SPEAKER_00

The Bears have the Sox, well, the Bears have won in 100 years, too. Can we speak about like uh do we happen to have another documentary about the Super Bowl damn shuffle?

unknown

Well, that's all they got.

SPEAKER_00

Well, here's another one that's just coming out on HBO. No, no, okay.

SPEAKER_02

Better ceremony for the 90 Bulls again.

SPEAKER_00

That's that's six of them. All right. This Super Bowl shuffle. We all the bears, the shuffling crew. I dude, I got the story, man. You guys danced around, you said you're gonna win the Super Bowl, you won the Super Bowl. Get it, man. We don't need another documentary.

SPEAKER_02

Maybe this team needs to start dancing.

SPEAKER_00

They are. Ben Johnson's taking off his shirt for hot dogs.

SPEAKER_02

Did he do that?

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_02

No.

SPEAKER_00

Needs to.

SPEAKER_02

Maybe that's the difference.

SPEAKER_00

I like your outbullets, Nicky C.

SPEAKER_02

Frankie.

SPEAKER_01

Frankie! Love you, Frankie. Uh, Bears play Friday, though, this week, which is which is interesting. Day after Thanksgiving.

SPEAKER_00

Make sure we have Amazon Prime.

SPEAKER_01

2 p.m. game.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Uh, which I like. It's a short week uh right after Thanksgiving, but we're gonna see what happens. I I like the matchup this week. Let's pull out another win. Big NFC matchup. Bears by five. Bears by five. You heard it here first. So speaking Thursday, Thursday's Thanksgiving. All right, uh, a lot to be thankful for, like we said. I gotta ask, what do you what are you up to uh uh for Thanksgiving, Lord Puck? What do you what are you doing? Oh, we're supposed to go to Fogo to Chow. Okay, so let's talk about that. Normally how the brewer household works is Wednesday before Thanksgiving, Mama Brew takes us all to Fogo to Chow.

SPEAKER_00

It was a great time last year.

SPEAKER_01

And Josh got the invite last year.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I felt so special.

SPEAKER_01

My mom has now said that every time we go, that you have to come. So you will get the invite again. We unfortunately can't go. Mom is in she's she's out of the country. She had to take a trip with her with her sister. What? And and she left. So we have no fogo to show this Wednesday. I know it's a sad day, but listen, we're going before Christmas.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, all right.

SPEAKER_01

So you're gonna get a little Christmas present, then we're gonna go to Fogo. Okay. All right, you'll still get your all you can eat.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

But I will say this I'm kind of a little bit excited this year that I don't have to go to Fogo on Wednesday before Thanksgiving. It's a tough 24 hours. Why? Why? You eat all that steak and meat on Wednesday, and I roll right into Thanksgiving, and I don't stop eating on Thanksgiving from noon till about 8 p.m.

SPEAKER_00

That's how we feel after back in the balloon, you see.

SPEAKER_02

Josh will get like three burgers.

SPEAKER_00

The butter burger. I customize it. What do you get on it? Swiss cheese, lettuce, and tomato.

SPEAKER_01

Swiss cheese.

SPEAKER_00

I love Swiss cheese. It reminds me of all the holes that the burger fills in my soul.

SPEAKER_01

Hey. No Swiss cheese and the catchers.

SPEAKER_00

Was that you talking to me about the Swiss cheese shirt that you had?

SPEAKER_01

Blocking Brigade. We talked about did you not remember anything from last week?

SPEAKER_00

No, I the Swiss cheese shirt. Yeah, but you talked about it. Yeah, I know it was the Swiss cheese shirt. I I talked to a lot of people, man.

SPEAKER_01

And what'd they say?

SPEAKER_00

No, in general. Like I talked to a decent amount of people, you know. Like hell, I just I I talked to this woman yesterday. Like, I forget what I say sometimes, man. I have bad short-term memory.

SPEAKER_01

No elephant brain. You gotta have an elephant brain. Nikki C, what are you doing for Thanksgiving?

SPEAKER_02

I am stopping by my aunt's and then heading over to the cousins. So two meals, like you said, it's uh local? Um Grays Lake and Mount Prospect.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Alright.

SPEAKER_02

So it's gonna be, like you said, a lot of eating.

SPEAKER_01

It's gonna be what's your favorite thing on the menu?

SPEAKER_02

Ham. Uncle makes a great ham. Chris? No. Um Tony. Not the Tony you know though.

SPEAKER_01

What what's he do to it? What's so good about it?

SPEAKER_02

I believe he caramelizes it. So it's just okay.

SPEAKER_01

What do you what are you putting with the ham? Like a roll and mashed potatoes? Green meat and casseroles, stuffing?

SPEAKER_02

Yes, yes, turkey. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

You had dark meat or dark meat or white meat?

SPEAKER_02

White meat, go to.

SPEAKER_01

What?

SPEAKER_00

Interesting. You always get chicken, right? Culver.

unknown

What?

SPEAKER_00

You can talk in Thanksgiving dinner here. Well, he always goes white there, so I was surprised he's going dark. But that's chicken. This is turkey. It's the same thing. They both go bark, bark, bark.

SPEAKER_01

You see what we're dealing with with this here?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah, you just compared things to the city.

SPEAKER_01

How have you coached with him for 10 years? I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

We sat in a car, like I referenced last week, for a good five hours talking about random stuff.

SPEAKER_02

Did you find the video? Yeah, did you?

SPEAKER_00

Did you find the video?

SPEAKER_02

Oh, the one that I set reminder for?

SPEAKER_00

So we film videos throughout the year and we set reminders months in advance to go watch these videos again to cheer us up.

SPEAKER_02

He sends messages to himself in the future. And you d you don't want to watch this one.

SPEAKER_00

Is it bad? It's not bad.

SPEAKER_02

I mean yeah. You're gonna laugh. It's funny. I want to say it was July.

SPEAKER_00

Oh no. Yeah, no, we're good. We're good. We're good. I I know that you love dark meeting, man.

SPEAKER_02

Actually, I have a uh hint on what it was about.

SPEAKER_00

A hinge on what it was about? A hint. Oh. I was like, what does hinge have to do with this?

SPEAKER_01

You're the only one thinking about hinge.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Oh. But is it back in the blue is a good reference for it. Twice actually.

SPEAKER_00

We back the blue twice?

SPEAKER_02

No, not me and you. You and the video reference.

SPEAKER_00

Oh yeah. Love you, Aaron.

Black Friday: Caliburn Bats Promo

SPEAKER_01

It's all coming together. Hey, do you have anything you want to discuss with the fans about uh the day after Thanksgiving?

SPEAKER_00

Black Friday?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Anything special going on where people should be?

SPEAKER_00

Yes. We have Rusos, we have a new sponsor. A new sponsor? Because apparently everyone loves the show. Loves the show. Not surprising, but it could be surprising. I mean, we got Nikki C to come out of hiding. True. Eeyore. But what's going on on Black Friday? What should these kids be doing? Here's a guy named Don Erickson. Don Erickson used to coach here up until last year. He was the longtime head coach at Revis High School. Even coached, he coached both of my brothers. I am proud to say Don Erickson is a great friend of ours, great family friend.

SPEAKER_01

Hall of Famer.

SPEAKER_00

A man of great character and kindness and generosity. And that is instilled in the wood bats that he makes called Caliburn Bat Company. And for your wood bat needs, I cannot recommend anyone more than Don Erickson. He made me a fungo with a monkey in an astronaut outfit in space in great detail that I still have today that I get compliments on from everybody. My next one is a no, I can't tell you my next one. You're going to steal it. So no, I'm not going to tell you that. You're just going to have to see it. But anyway, he has a Black Friday sale going on from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Black Friday at his shop in Downers Grove. I need to find the exact address here. Hold up. Can you can you talk for 10 seconds, Nikki, while I find the address?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Love you, Don. Don't great. I actually I've used the same fungo for like five years now from Don. Incredible.

SPEAKER_01

I have three of his fungos. They're fantastic. A lot of our kids swing the wood bats.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Don is a baseball guy, been in the game a long time. His son Sam, who's playing college baseball, played for us, comes home, helps him spin the bats. Like it's fantastic. But where do the people need to go?

SPEAKER_00

2,900 Downers Drive in Downers Grove. You'll get 25% off. You also get a shirt. I think you also get a back grip. And then you get to meet Don. Which again, nothing's better than any of that. And again, the bat quality is second to none. He gets the same wood that all the other companies get it from. So there's no reason that you shouldn't go to a guy that gives you a personalized touch with a home feel. So go there on Black Friday. You can this one you can say Josh sent you and you will get 25% off. I repeat, you tell him Josh sent you, and you'll get 25% off. Caliber Bats, 2900, Downers Drive and Downers Grove, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Black Friday, which is four days away or three days away from when you're hearing this.

SPEAKER_01

Go see Don.

SPEAKER_00

Love you, Don.

SPEAKER_02

Love you, Don.

Gratitude, Shirts, And Closing Creed

SPEAKER_01

Don, thanks for everything you do, man. And best of luck. I hope you have a big day on Friday. And with just the holidays. Plus, I'll be sending you something soon to get an order in. Gotta get I get my coach's fungos every year. I gotta get a new set this year. Speaking of, you mentioned your your space monkey fungo. I have Don Don spun a Bo Jackson bat that he brought me that I had Bo sign. First edition, only edition. Bo signed it. Caliburn bat, Bo's face. It is. It's electric. So, Don, thanks you, man. Kids, get out there, go see them. But listen, anything else you really want to cover tonight?

SPEAKER_00

I just want to thank all of you for listening to the first show. If you're here this far into this show, I want to thank you so much from the bottom of my heart, Dan, I, and also Nikki Sinow. Um, we enjoy this time in the week. I saw the stats from week one. Um thank you. Just thank you. We're gonna keep on rolling with it and just keep on listening. And I just want to thank you because this is a week of Thanksgiving. I just want to say thank you for listening this long.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and uh, listen, a lot of people came up to us in the dome and said how much they like the show. We hope you guys keep listening. We know you're gonna keep listening. We got more good stuff coming. All right, once again, don't forget ho ho ho 2999. Shirts are coming. Get the order in. Hit us with the ending, Grace.

SPEAKER_00

Thou shalt not ever, ever ice the puck. Do you hear me? Never ice the puck. Never be caught off sides on a deal. And what I mean by that, you see a guy that's gonna tell you one way, you go the other way. Think counterintuitive this week. So when they're chasing you, you stay still. And then when they're not chasing you, you chase them. Now that's Hackie. Dead is Puck. Dead is Chicago.

SPEAKER_01

Bruce Sauce, Lord Puck out.
