Summer House Updates

SPEAKER_05

I'm Lauren and I'm Emily. And we're Midwest besties. Okay, hello, hello.

SPEAKER_04

Welcome to the pop culture potluck, everybody. Welcome. Um, as with every week, there is just so much to get into. And we are gonna just start right off with Summer House because there's tons to discuss there. Yeah. The updates. Every time I think it's like it's tapering off a little bit, it just ramps right back up. Uh, we get a Yankee skin.

unknown

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_04

So I do at the top, I'm before we get into those two scumbags, I want to just give Sierra her flowers. Yes. She had an amazing glamour cover. Oh my god, she looked so good. She looked so good. The glam that they did was like her first of all, her hair looked awesome. Her glam was like kind of toned down. Like her eyes were really she just looked stunning.

SPEAKER_05

It was like this like 70s, like Diana Ross. Yeah, like big hair.

SPEAKER_04

But like minimalism.

SPEAKER_05

Yes. It was gorgeous. And she looks gorgeous.

SPEAKER_04

Very much like very like editorial. And she looks amazing at always, period. But this was just she looked so so so good. And the interview was awesome. Um, she did answer some questions about like not there. Were some some things about like the timeline that she didn't answer, but I think that that's because like there were probably some things embargoed that will be addressed at the reunion. Totally. Which I believe might be filming this week. I think it is. So I can't wait to see the seating chart.

SPEAKER_05

And it's just, I feel like we need it to make sense of this narrative because clearly they're not talking about certain things. Yeah, which is gonna be good. So we have some surprises for the reunion.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, and I think that so basically, like she's handling it like a queen. She is hurt and she's sad, but she's handling it like very maturely, and I think like in a way that is really conscious of how she unfortunately might be perceived as a black woman. Totally. Um, so I know she's carrying a lot of weight, I'm sure, but she also just was kind of like the universe is gonna take care of it. And this is a gonna be a footnote for her. Totally. At the end of the day, like she is getting opportunities. Like, this is the Ariana Maddox treatment of like she's on a glamour cover. That's insane. Yes, you know, like she is going to be getting opportunities from this because of this, hopefully. I mean, because of her and how amazing she is. Um, but yeah, I think it's just she can capitalize on something bad and find all the good in it. And I just love her. I love it. Um, and then kind of in the same vein, Mia was on Watch What Happens Live and she's a queen. This was her first Watch What Happens Live appearance.

SPEAKER_05

She's a natural because it's crazy that she is new to all of this.

SPEAKER_04

I love her so much. She just is such a good ad to the cast, and she was so good on Watch What Happens Live, like kind of cheeky, like she was answering questions and being direct, um, but also like leaving enough to like keep us kind of satisfying the wolves. Yeah. Um, basically was just like she puts a little bit more of the weight on Amanda than she does West because at the end of the day, it's like Amanda's a woman, and like we know who West is, and Amanda was like supposed to be better than that. Um she also uh said that West texted her and apologized. Amanda texted her and apologized. She has not responded to either because she just doesn't really know what to say. And Andy was like, What if you could ask Amanda and Wes anything, like what would you ask? And she was like, What did you think was gonna happen?

SPEAKER_00

Heading into the reunion, what is the number one question you would like to ask Amanda and West?

SPEAKER_03

What did you think was gonna happen?

SPEAKER_05

It does I don't think they thought about it. Yeah, unfortunately they didn't. Again, I say that's not a good thing. No, you know, I saw that clip of Mia saying, like, well, a man's a man and Amanda should have been better. I don't know how much I liked it.

SPEAKER_04

I don't totally I we talked, we've talked about this. And I get I get it.

SPEAKER_05

And I feel like maybe like as so in their circle, you can be more mad at Amanda, but I don't think we as a public should share that sentiment.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I agree. I totally agree. Like, I think that they're both like scumbags. You know, in her glamour interview, um, Sierra was talking about how she and West were really trying to move forward with a friendship with with boundaries, and one of those boundaries was, you know, for him to not be like hooking up with other like Bravo liberties. That's nuts. And obviously that is blown out of the water. She had a birthday dinner, he came to her birthday dinner. Like they were friends, you know, and so it's like there was a relationship there, and so they're both equally culpable for um for their actions. Um, and then we got so in the same day her glamour cover drops, which everybody's like, Queen, yes, flame emoji. West and Amanda decide, you know what? I wanna hit, I'm gonna hit the stadium. I wanna go to a ball game.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, their publicity uh blitz has continued uh after Amanda's uh dog announcement where I'm going back to normalcy, which normalcy is uh just going out so much. Has she ever and this is what you just never know. Like, was she always so out and about and we just didn't care?

SPEAKER_04

I don't know. Because like we talked about this in the last episode that it was normal for people to see them around New York. Yeah, it just wasn't photo, like obviously there's this fervor surrounding them right now. Um, I don't know. You wouldn't think so, considering the entire breakdown of her relationship with Kyle and one of their main issues.

SPEAKER_05

You hit on it so perfectly last episode when you were like, if she would have acted this way, like her and Kyle would have probably been good because she just like apparently loves to be out at bars. But it also could be she's always done that, but she goes home at like 11. Um, it's not like she's a total homebody.

SPEAKER_04

I was also thinking about this too. It's like when you know my husband and I first started dating, like we were obviously we were a lot, we were like 14 years younger. So there's that. We were a lot younger, we went out all the time, we had so much fun, and I am now like not that person at all. Like I am more of a homebody. We also like have a child, we're just in different places in our life. But when we do go out, I am like annoyed by him because I'm just like, oh my god, like if he's like super drunk, I should say. I'm like, oh my god, like and so I think it's also this thing of like, well, when we were first dating, I was obsessed with him. You know, we were like obsessed with each other, and it's like you're in the honeymoon phase of like that person's so funny, like they're so amazing, it doesn't matter, and like you have so much fun together and everything's fresh and new and fun, and then and I'm now I'm just like this grizzled, you know, married woman who's just like, okay, you need to chill out.

SPEAKER_05

Like, well, I also think there's a a stage in life for everything. So it's like this is who you are now as a mom to a young kid. Yeah, you don't know what you're gonna be like in 10 years. Yeah, and I think what's I'm gonna re-release, yeah, maybe because it's like I'm partying, baby, and I4D, so you better come with me.

SPEAKER_04

The way we go out now is just different. It's like our friend group getting together on a Friday night together and ordering pizza and letting our kids run wild, and like we hang out, and that's so much fun, you know. So it is interesting because I'm like, oh, she's going out and having so much fun because she's obsessed with him right now. Like she wasn't obsessed with Kyle anymore.

SPEAKER_05

It was also just like the way I didn't believe they were in a serious relationship until that Yankees game when she was like clearly annoyed, he was like standing and cheering, and I'm like, oh.

SPEAKER_04

This doesn't bode well.

SPEAKER_05

This is a relationship. She's already like, Wes, just sit down. You're being so annoying.

SPEAKER_04

I just like she is is she just so fucking whiny, and we just ignored it. Is she the whiniest person on earth?

SPEAKER_05

I definitely think that she's a professional. But she was being really annoying going into this last episode. A hundred percent. This would not have been like, oh, I'm only just so annoyed with her because of everything that is going on in the news today.

SPEAKER_04

At the Yankees game, she had first of all, she was wearing the most fuck-ass outfit.

SPEAKER_05

What?

SPEAKER_04

What was she wearing? Like long loose jean shorts with like uh fry campus boots, I think, and then just like a uh camo Yankees hat, glasses, and like a jacket.

SPEAKER_05

It was like very like farmer.

SPEAKER_04

It was weird. And then she was sitting in the seat with her legs up, her feet on the seat in front of her, and there was a person sitting in front of her. Like, that is bad at all. Go to jail, like go straight to jail. If somebody put their feet on my seat behind me, like I would have said something.

SPEAKER_05

Like gross nasty boots that like trampled through the boards of New York.

SPEAKER_04

In New York? Like, I I'm so sorry. I don't want uh an eradicated disease. Can you put your feet back on the ground? So they're at the Yankees game and like he kisses her. Like, it's like they're like out in public. People did there were some boots on the ground, uh, journalism going on, and somebody went up to them and asked, you know, like if they were official or something, and she said, We're just figuring things out, like it's all it's like really new, um, which like it's not. Uh so so yeah, it was crazy though.

SPEAKER_05

And this is gonna be very different from Scandaval, where very different is felt like uh Raquel and Tom were already not together by this time.

SPEAKER_04

They did not do this, like they went to ground when all when Scandaval broke, and they tried to kind of stay together, but it was like there was one scene um on Vanderpump with them together, and it was the most uncomfortable scene I've watched in reality TV. Um, and it was very clear that like they weren't really gonna be together, like it was just like they had an affair and it all fizzled out the second that their lives imploded.

SPEAKER_05

This is not happening with this with this.

SPEAKER_04

No, it seems that they are very committed to the bit. Um and then did you see West was on his podcast and he like pseudo-addressed things?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, so I saw the like screen grabs of what he said.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, so I'm gonna pull it up and share. Okay, so West was on his podcast that he does with um Sophie Cunningham uh of the Indiana Fever, and it was very PR. Like she asked him, like, How are you doing? And he's like, I'm good, and she's like, No, but are like are you are you good? And he was like, um, he was like, Well, I've been better, and he kind of addresses it. He's like, um, that's actually one thing I would like to be very clear about. There was no overlap. I know there's a thousand different theories on the internet right now, but that is one thing that for sure did not happen. Everyone was single. So then we realized things are maybe a little bit serious in February. And when this all started, and that's when this all started, and there's not a whole lot more to it than that. Um, he said, I'm trying to take it day by day and stay off my phone, but yet he knows about all the internet theories. So interesting. Um, he's upset that Amanda's taking a big brunt out of it. Apparently, her number was leaked and she was texted some unsavory things. Um, he said, I've sent some texts to my castmates. I haven't gotten any responses yet, which is to be expected. Um, and that he the hardest thing is like he knows his actions have hurt people that he cares about, and that hopefully he can give those apologies directly at the reunion. So we'll see how it goes. And then KJ commented on threads and was like, Hold on, I'm just checking my phone. I don't have a text. Girl, girl. KJ's so messy.

SPEAKER_05

I love it. I know. I'm obsessed. I'm obsessed with it. Moving forward from West and Amanda, there was some other news that dropped with a summer house, castmate, and a new love interest.

SPEAKER_04

I can barely speak about this.

SPEAKER_05

Mad Libs.

SPEAKER_04

There was Bravo Mad libs. I need a break. Do you hear me? I can't do this. So page six threw a party, and they had all these bravo liberties there. And apparently, Kyle Cook and none other than Megan King of formerly of Real Housewives of Orange County, was there.

SPEAKER_05

We all have a soft spot for her because of her St. Louis origins, but she is a dark character.

SPEAKER_04

I talked about this on our TikTok. Like, I am a Megan King Edmonds, formerly Edmonds apologist. I think Jim Edmonds is an absolute trash bag. I think he was horrible to her. I think she has some serious like mental illness. Like when bad things happen to her, we like don't talk about on the podcast because it's too sensitive for us. It's not entertaining. And like most recently, her she lost custody of all three of her children with him. And like that that's like real mess. We're talking really messy. To me, that's not like salacious, fun gossip we want to talk about. Like, we are moms, and it just for me and for Emily, it's like that is really sad. Like, we're sad for her, and we're really sad for her kids, and we hope that like she gets better and whatever needs to happen so that she can be in her children's lives, like that that happens. So um, I will not accept Megan King slander. Like, I don't, I don't it was insane.

SPEAKER_05

We don't do that here.

SPEAKER_04

We don't do that here.

SPEAKER_05

Get him banned. Get him banned. We don't do that here. It was insane to find out that he Kyle Cook is actually a year older than Megan King.

SPEAKER_04

Well, she's I mean, she's been married three times. Like she's so young. She's really young. She's not like she's not much older than us.

SPEAKER_05

She was having those babies in her 20s. I think sh was she? How old are they? I just feel like she was on Aspra Housewives forever ago.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, it does feel like a really long time ago. I mean, she and Jim were not married for very long. No. So um, yeah, it was so anyway, they were then papped. They were photographed kissing outside of this party.

SPEAKER_05

He was literally on his tippy toes.

SPEAKER_04

It was so because she's like a model. So she is very tall and statuesque, and Kyle is not. And so he was literally had his hands on her shoulders, like holding on for dear life, like balancing himself on his tippy toes, and she was like hunched over and they were kissing. It was the worst kiss I've ever seen in my life.

unknown

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_04

And I just like I rebuke this in the name of Jesus. Yeah. Like, I can't, we can't do this, Kyle. Like, no. He like this is not, you guys both need to run from each other.

SPEAKER_05

It was very Erica Jane, Jesse Solomon. Totally. Like these summer house boys, they have no qualms.

SPEAKER_04

No.

SPEAKER_05

They will hook up with anything that moves.

SPEAKER_04

I just hope it ends there. Like it just doesn't need to be a thing.

SPEAKER_05

It will 100% end there.

SPEAKER_04

Oh my god. Yeah. That was like that rocked. Everybody was like, I feel like everybody had the same reaction to it. Everybody was like, what? What? I mean, again, like she exposed Brooks' cancer scam. Like, she has a special place in like the Bravo Hall of Fame. And she like she show her, come correct and show her the respect that she deserves. Um, but like also, like, she needs to like do some there needs to be some personal work happening there. She needs to stay the fuck away from Kyle Cook. She needs to stay the fuck away from Kyle Cook. And Kyle Cook needs to say the fuck away from her. Um, okay, so that wraps up all of the Bravo news that was going, or I'm sorry, all of the summer house news. So we do want to chat about the last episode. Um, because it is really wild to have this new lens um that we have now watching the back half of the season.

SPEAKER_05

This was probably the first like good episode since uh the scandal has broken. Yeah. They've just been kind of filler episodes, so there was nothing really to talk about. Uh this last one, episode 11, Viva, Viva Lahampton's Jessie puts together this like puts together is really generous. Mediocre. Calmarted. I will never understand with theme party. You know, I'm not a theme party girl. Either. But like why some people get like a team of like 40 people assembling. Like, how does Paige get that party with like she has a lot more money? So she so they you think they're paying for these parties.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I think that sometimes I think they probably have a budget from production. That's what I was thinking. But why is some more than others? I because I'm sure that it's being supplemented.

SPEAKER_05

And Paige's probably like, I'm not doing that. Yeah. Like, I'm not gonna like open Amazon boxes.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Right.

SPEAKER_04

She wouldn't even like clean up her own mess. And the producers are like, okay, I guess we'll do it. I guess we're ordering a giant bed and all this bedding for you. Um, so he puts in less than zero effort. It was so sad. He's like, I'm having a Vegas party. Everybody loves Vegas, right? And it was literally just like, and he like didn't invite anybody. No. West invited everybody. He invited, like, you say he said 96 people.

SPEAKER_05

Jesus Christ.

SPEAKER_04

What are you like? What is this guy out here doing?

SPEAKER_05

He acted like such a gross monster this episode to the point where he passed out and someone wrote dick on his face.

SPEAKER_04

And I also just feel like at the top of this discussion, like he needs to address the level of sweaty that he gets. Like he was so sweaty this entire episode. Like, I just know the level of swamp ass he had.

SPEAKER_05

As a sweaty person, I just won't, I won't talk about someone's to that level. No, you've seen my arms and back in the summertime. You know in my head.

SPEAKER_04

You know what I'm talking about. It's on limits when you're a bad fucking person.

SPEAKER_05

That's true. I'm a good person.

SPEAKER_04

You're a good person. So, like, I'm never gonna discuss your biological.

SPEAKER_05

Like, I did like the first time I talked about West on this podcast, is I talked about how sweaty he was. Because he's very sweaty. And I like was like, yes, like sweaty representation on top normalized being really sweaty because I do think a lot normalize hyperhydrosis. I do think a lot of like, why are these people not sweaty? I know.

SPEAKER_04

I know. Um, but he was just like, it just like kind of plays into this. Like, he is so disgusting. I'm like, this man cannot smell good. Like, I know he's chafing every possible crevice on his body. Um, and he decides to invite this girl that he's like interested in as much as he can be interested in a girl. And he is sitting on a couch, and Sierra is directly next to him talking to Ben, and this girl comes and he like pulls her onto his lap, and they're like canoodling, and he says to her, like he's so, so drunk. And he says to her, he's like, uh, Kenny used to date that girl uh sitting right behind you. And the girl's like, Oh, do you want me to get up? And he's like, No, fuck it, it's fine, it's totally fine. And then later, when questioned about it, he acted, he said he didn't know Sierra was sitting there. So he's a fuck, which we already knew he was a liar, obviously. But it's like, you're such a fucking liar. You are such a fucking liar, Camille.

SPEAKER_08

You're such a fucking liar, Camille.

SPEAKER_05

Like, we'll add that. At that clip. I like have no words. I like literally, I have stopped being able to decipher what I think his um motivations are, other than he wants to be a villain. Other than he wants to be a few.

SPEAKER_04

I always was not expecting that because he could have been so much more.

SPEAKER_05

Like he could have been this like new type of Bravo man. Yeah. Um, we were giving it to him on a silver plaid after he took some abuse, yeah, that was deserved. But and I I I'm just there's no way. I also think that we have to talk about like there is a level of inebriation that he is reaching this season that we have not seen in previous seasons.

SPEAKER_04

We don't like the level of inebriation I would say is like OG Summerhouse, like Carl, who by the way has a substance use disorder. I never understand how he can be around all those drunk. And Kyle, obviously, but like I he is so I know that's so true, but like he is so drunk, and like no one else is, and so that's where it becomes like very glaring to me. Um, or at least no everyone else can hide it better because okay, so then so they're at this party, he's like making out with this girl. Sierra is obviously upset, she gets up and leaves. Ben low-key won me over because I'm like not into him this season. No, but when he was like, he was very upset over that, over um West doing that and was like incensed over it. And so I did appreciate that. Yes, and then he West relocates to a lounge chair and he's like laying there with this girl, and Amanda's like, I'm gonna go over there, and she was pretty, I think she was pretty drunk. I agree. Um, and she goes over and she's so fucking annoying.

SPEAKER_02

I come in for a cuddle.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Am I crashing your party?

SPEAKER_07

No, actually not.

SPEAKER_02

I think I am. No, we're just chatting, talking about what we were doing later.

SPEAKER_01

Well, my husband is playing at Common Ground. He's DJ Kyle Cook. Best DJ in the Hamtans and all of the Hamtons, if you want to come.

SPEAKER_05

One of the great reads in Bravo history. Like we're living through history, okay? That's gonna become a that's because that was. Her straight face, like, I think we're going to surf lodge.

SPEAKER_04

It was so good. But West was like, had his arm around both of them. Amanda because Amanda's like, Can I come in for a cuddle? And then he's like playing with her hair. He's like touching her. And then she gets up and she's like, Look at my watch my butt as I walk away.

SPEAKER_05

Which like nobody wants to see those tiny little flapjacks. I know.

SPEAKER_04

Like, girl, please be so fucking for real right now. Like, it was so weird. It was so weird.

SPEAKER_05

Like, one last thing about this episode. Um, so after the girl leaves, uh, West is so drunk, he pat like he like falls asleep on the patio couch and then wakes up when they like doodle all over his face. Who did that?

SPEAKER_04

I don't remember. It was hilarious.

SPEAKER_05

I loved it. It didn't last long because again, he's so sweaty. Yeah. Um, and kind of wakes up to an intervention of people pissed at him. Yeah. Yes. Um, the most pissed is Amanda. Yeah. Like irrationally so. This would have been something, again, if we don't know what we know now, I think I still would have been like, this is a really strong reaction.

SPEAKER_06

I know.

SPEAKER_05

And it doesn't even seem to be directed to Sierra. It's just like, you should not have done that. Yeah. You should not have made out with a girl at this party.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. And Kyle kind of tries to come to West defense, this is where she screams at Kyle and is like, Do you want to fight with me right now? Like screams at Kyle over this, but doesn't scream at Kyle when he tells her she has no personality, like, could not give a shit less, and then freaks out over this. Very interesting. So it was like, was she just like, she was something going on between them already? There were feel I mean, there were feelings there already. No doubt in my mind. No doubt in my mind. Jesse had a really, really good episode. Oh my god, he had the best episode of like of all time. He really clocked West and was like, What are you doing? Like, do you not learn, you have not learned your lesson. Like, he just doesn't want to settle down. Cause Jesse invited a girl that he is like dating right now and seems to really like. And so he was like acting like a normal person at the party and uh acting like a guy who had a girl he was interested in and was just like kind of looking at Wes and he he said he's gonna be looking like Kyle Cook before he settles down.

SPEAKER_05

I such a reading, and honestly, Jesse has been trying to tell us this all season last. Wes is not ready to settle down, Wes doesn't know what he wants. Wes is not like quit looking at this man like relationship material. Like I am more relationship material than West. And we all kind of like rolled our eyes at him. Um, but he's 100% correct, he's 100% correct.

SPEAKER_04

So um this episode apparently Andy was teasing it that it gets even crazier.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, this episode coming up, episode 12, that drops um tomorrow. Well, Peacock tomorrow.

SPEAKER_04

Peacock watchers uh represent. And we record on Tuesdays, yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Um, okay, so that leads us to we haven't been talking about the real housewives of Beverly Hills, um, because it's been kind of a nothing burger. Yeah. Um, we did have the season finale,

RHOBH Final Thoughts

SPEAKER_05

and I thought we could just like wrap up our like final thoughts on the season. Yeah. Um, again, this is the first full season I've watched in years. I always have to preface that. Um, what I've gotten from it is Jennifer Tilly and Rachel Zoe are the show. That's why I watched that.

SPEAKER_04

I are you team Erica and Kyle, or are you team Doreet?

SPEAKER_05

I was Team Doreet before Italy.

SPEAKER_04

Okay. And Italy she lost two.

SPEAKER_05

So annoying.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, she's annoying. They're all annoying. I am really sick of Kyle. So, like, I I think that I'm Team Dorite.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, and I'm like not on Team Kyle either. Yeah. Like, I just don't like any of them. That's totally fair. I'm not on anybody's team. Yeah. I think Sutton, like, enter herself in such an embarrassing way. I know, I know. Um, I don't I don't blame Dorit for coming off annoying. Yeah. But she is coming off annoying. Yeah. Like she's I I know that ever the reason why she's being annoying is like people are confronting her. But it's just the same thing over and over again. And then her like her her confessionals are ridiculous. Like whoever writes her lines, like, you think you can be my friend? Absolutely not. It's like, yeah that is ev like it's I I just it's not entertaining.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. And what is entertaining is Jennifer Tilly breaking her $40,000 cat purse. Was it Gucci? Gucci. R.I.P. Clearly glass.

SPEAKER_05

Because it like shatter like it shattered. And she will put the clue in of her being like, mommy, mommy, it hurts. Oh no.

SPEAKER_06

That is a $40,000 bear. No. Oh, oh, ow. Mommy, it hurts. It hurts.

SPEAKER_04

And Erica's like, oh my God. Because she knows, because she used to be able to buy all that shit with, you know, stolen money. Um, and so she was immediately like, oh my god. And like she and then Emily, you can tell the part.

SPEAKER_05

And then what rolls out but a stray tom?

SPEAKER_06

You missed something else? That's my tom. That's my tom. Because now I have a stomach ache.

SPEAKER_05

And then when she sees the purse, she picks up the stray tom off the floor and eats it. And says, this is giving me a stomachache. I like, oh Lord, I'm like, this is a holy experience for me to witness when I am a Tums girly. I too am a Tums girly. Um, and just like, can you be more relatable and fabulous? Can you be more like, if I had a disgusting amount of money, this is exactly how I would act and behave and the choices I would make.

SPEAKER_04

A really stupid $30,000 Gucci cat purse. That I put stray Tums in. That I put on like a wobbly cocktail table. And like it was just so funny. And somebody was like, Did you just eat that off the floor? And she's like, Oh, I'm sure it's clean. I know the owner.

SPEAKER_05

Like, she eats something off the floor and follows it up with a name drop. Yes, yes. What?

SPEAKER_04

Poetry exquisite. It was clean.

SPEAKER_05

No, no, no, she was horrified. It was giving me off the floor.

SPEAKER_06

But you just take that off the floor. That's okay. I'm sure it's very clean here. My friend owns his club.

SPEAKER_05

So honestly, that scene was worth the entire like the entire season.

SPEAKER_04

Jennifer Tilly has been a revelation this entire season. And I can't wait to see her on the reunion. Her reunion look eats the fuck down. It's so good.

SPEAKER_05

Obama. Custom dress of her own face.

SPEAKER_04

It is so good.

SPEAKER_05

We are witnessing camp in the realest form.

SPEAKER_04

If you don't know what camp is, because it is a widely misused term at this juncture in like social media and internet culture, like Jennifer Tilly is camp.

SPEAKER_05

Wearing a custom everything, everything she does. Everything she does, everything that comes out of her mouth, every decision she makes is camp.

SPEAKER_04

Her and and Bronwyn, I would say. Like Bronwyn's fashion is pr is very campy. Yes. Um, and there's a Venn diagram there.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I feel like there has to be some like joy behind it that Bronwyn, like Bronwyn takes it too seriously to the point where I'm like, does she know it's camp? Like, do you know you are wearing a giant heart? Do you know you're wearing an inner tube on a boat? Do you know you're wearing a hot dog? Yeah. Like you're wearing a hot dog suit.

SPEAKER_00

You're dressed like a hot dog. So is that guy. Oh no.

SPEAKER_06

Donald might look like a hot dog, but you're wearing an actual hot dog costume.

SPEAKER_00

You know, I don't have to sit here and be insulted like this.

SPEAKER_04

Um, so so yeah. So are are you gonna be watching the reunion? I like don't like reunions that much. I don't know if I I probably will, but I'll very much like it depends on if I have nothing to watch at like next week.

SPEAKER_05

That's exactly what I want to eat a sandwich and some Doritos.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that's exactly right. I just need something kind of in the background. Like folding laundry or a board.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. But yeah, no, that that scene uh was worth the entire watching the entire season. Oh, I do feel like we need to talk about Amanda because we like railed on her all season. She's starting to warm up on me.

SPEAKER_04

Well, that's because like she started to get less screen time. So it's like she had less time to be just so annoying. I do just like I just feel bad. I mean, she's just like such a millennial. It's just like we don't need to gang up on her annual. Her new book is called Godly as fuck, by the way. I know. I can't.

SPEAKER_05

And that's what it is. Like, okay, and like her, like her manifestation videos are popping up on our algorithm.

SPEAKER_03

I know.

SPEAKER_05

And I'm like, okay.

SPEAKER_03

I bet I can range your vibe in 30 seconds. Ready? Let's go. It is all working out for you. It is all working out for you. You are fucking divine. You have God living inside of you. You were made for greatness. I'll say it again. You were made for greatness.

SPEAKER_05

Maybe I am worth it. Maybe everything that I want will come to me.

SPEAKER_04

2010 Lauren. That would be godly as fuck. No, I would never have done that. But I would have read Rich as fuck. Are you serious?

SPEAKER_05

We would have read Rich as fuck. We would have highlighted notes. I mean, I you are a badass. Like changed my life.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Yes. I read all that stupid shit. The manifestation, like. And just like her style is so millennial. It's so funny. Down to the red lipsticks and the bad highlights and like her she like a chambray shirt with like shorts and heels. When she walked in in that outfit, I was like, girl. You're stuck in a like you are stuck somewhere. It is 2012.

SPEAKER_05

How long live in Los Angeles? I don't know.

SPEAKER_04

And she has so much money, appar apparently. And dress like that. She did get married. So she's married now to her husband in a civil ceremony. Apparently, they're gonna have this big blowout in October. We'll see.

SPEAKER_05

I also don't believe she's as rich as she should be.

SPEAKER_04

But shout out, bravo Bessie Kelly. That is what she thinks as well. That it's very smoke and mirrors. Like Dorite coded, where it was like, Oh, I bought you a Bentley, but it was like a rental and like their house was in foreclosure.

SPEAKER_05

Because that is essentially like what those that is what she does. Like that is that is what a because I like her, but I'm not gonna have to. Well, her advice was like she's not a grifter. Like, yeah. Like a malicious grifter, not like we're not talking like you know, a gentleman. Bernie Madoff. Yes. Yeah. But I'm talking like she presents her it's very Mary Kay, like very Avon lady, like you marry LolaRoo. You present yourself as this rich person, and then you get people to be like, you can be like me. It's giving multi-level marketing, hundred percent.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, for sure.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, absolutely.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, I do really quickly while we're talking about Bravo, like you have to watch Rhode Island, it's really good. Promise. Yeah, I love it. And it's not like sad, it's like fucking funny and wacky. Okay. Like Kelly and I were texting about it, and we both like agreed it feels like this is like old, like older housewives shenanigans.

SPEAKER_05

Is there anything we want to like you want to discuss like on the pod?

SPEAKER_04

We don't need to get into it until you watch it. It's just like there's like they're loud, they're brash, like they're not afraid to fight and cry, and it's just like it's good TV, and I don't, and I'm but it's like they're also not talking about like you know, abuse.

SPEAKER_05

Yes, yes, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

It's like stupid shit. Which is important for me.

SPEAKER_05

Yes, yes, because you know I'm like on a uh is a bravo embargo the right word that I'm using.

SPEAKER_04

And you take a take a break before you get into a road.

SPEAKER_05

I think I'm going to, and then I will.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah, for sure. That's totally fair. Um, okay, should we let's talk about Coachella?

Coachella Weekend Two

SPEAKER_05

Weekend two, weekend two past weekend, and it had and I feel like I don't remember this so much in previous years that it's like this is the cameo weekend. Same. Me either. And because it was everybody had a cameo.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

And I just don't remember that from years past. It being such a like, oh no, you bring someone else on stage. Yeah. Lady Gaga certainly didn't do that.

SPEAKER_04

She and I think some people are probably like, bitch, I'm the show.

SPEAKER_05

Lady Gaga is fully bitch, I'm the show. She's always like that.

SPEAKER_04

Fair enough. Like you, it's like, but it and it has almost become this expectation of like bringing someone, like upping the ante. So and Sabrina set she brought out Madonna. Did not expect that. Would never in a million years have guessed that.

SPEAKER_05

She's been very quiet on this like pop girl um revolution that we've had for the past like four years. Of course, she has. So this is because, you know, as little monsters know, like when Lady Gaga was blowing up like this, which she was constantly compared to Madonna.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Um, and I just wasn't hearing that. It's like Madonna's now so old, like she doesn't like all these girls are being compared to Lady Gaga. Like so, it was interesting to see her. She is old. She your note. What did you say in your note? Okay, so there was this there it so they did um she is wait, wait, not a Madonna fan, but I was worried about her being able to actually get up when they were both on their knees. She is old, M I Aegis. That's my thought.

SPEAKER_04

I mean, I don't know if she was lip syncing. Her vocals sounded pretty good. But did they I could not find a video where her vocals were synced. I know, but sometimes there's like weird feedback. I don't know. I'm sure she was lip syncing because I wish her vocals were shockingly good. Sabrina's were were, I mean, her, so they sang um Um Like a Virgin. Yeah, and it was in I mean, Sabrina was insane. She just has a great voice, she just has so much range and belt, and just is so good. And it was just interesting because people I saw a lot of commenters who were like, Oh my god, Sabrina, I'm sorry I didn't recognize your game. I'm like, what do you mean? Girl, her, have you listened to any of her music? She can and also like her BBC uh cover of Good Luck, babe. So that is how I knew she could batter. Oh my god, she is such she is an amazing vocalist. So she did an awesome job, but they were like both on their knees on the catwalk, and then it was obviously like they were supposed to get up and they got up like one leg at a time, and I was so worried about Madonna. How do you even her joints? I was so concerned about her joints. But I'm also just like, how do you not have any cellulite? This is nuts because she does not eat.

SPEAKER_05

Oh man. She eats like veggies and then like shoots herself with like any type of like B12 weird stuff that we don't even know about.

SPEAKER_04

So no, you're so you're so right. Um, so and then we also had um, so Addison Ray was performing. She performed last weekend, she performed this weekend, and Olivia Rodrigo popped onto her set and they sang together, and it was very cute. Um they kind of like match each other's vibe in a lot of ways. So I felt like that was like a very fitting, and plus like Olivia is promoting her new album that's gonna drop soon, and then she just dropped her lead her first lead single, so it all made a lot of sense.

SPEAKER_05

What did you think of uh Drop Dead, the

Olivia Rodrigo’s New Single

SPEAKER_05

new Olivia Rodrigo single?

SPEAKER_04

I liked it, like it was different than what I was expecting from her, um, like a different vibe from her like punky girl kind of persona. Um, but it is an earworm. I had to take a minute and then I like was singing it all weekend.

SPEAKER_05

Because she's another one like Harry, where she'll do some more experimental sounds. Yes. Um, but she doesn't usually make them a single. And this is a single, no less.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yes. And I saw some people saying, like, this is why you take long breaks in between albums. And I mean, I kind of have to agree.

SPEAKER_05

Because stylistically, Sour and Guts were very similarly this scene. Yeah. They did not skip a beat. Yes, I do agree, like, she couldn't come out here like with like that lavender purple, like grungy, daughter of Weezer, daughter of Paramore sounds. Yeah, like that, yeah. She definitely needed to mix it up. Not needed to, but it would have, it would be nice to see a mix up. Yeah. Um, I'm not a hun I love the song. I'm not 100% sold on her styling right now. Like, even her like weird bra and like I didn't like it.

SPEAKER_04

So for me, when I first saw that, I was like, that's very Addison Ray coded.

SPEAKER_05

Yes.

SPEAKER_04

Like I can totally so for me, I was kind of like, okay, is that was that like Addison Ray influence? Because like that I see for sure. But for Olivia, I was like, I don't love that.

SPEAKER_05

It just looked weird.

SPEAKER_04

And I'm also like, did she get a boob job?

SPEAKER_05

That bra had so much padding on it. Okay, but she could have. I hate it. And I hated her styling in that music video. Like Jake came up to me, Pod Daddy came up to me, and he was like, Did you see that like music video with Olivia Rodrigo dressed like a baby at Versailles? So I literally like was expecting like uh like very like Sydney sweetie euphoria's a baby, Cassie is a baby, and I had to be like, no, that's like kind of a style or like a style.

SPEAKER_04

I think I know she was going for this like Marie Antoinette like interpretation. Yes, but like hyper feminine, hyper sexualized, but it did look like a sexy baby outfit.

SPEAKER_05

It was 1000% a sexy baby outfit. Like I was like, my feminist brain is short circuiting because it's like female director, good. Yeah her playing the guitar while like weird like girl panties are being shown, bad. Like, I'm I'm short circuiting. I know.

SPEAKER_04

I actually stopped watching it because it made me feel weird, and I wasn't sure why, and that's exactly why. Oh, it's because she was dressed like a baby. Because she was dressed like a baby.

SPEAKER_06

I was like, and the whole sexy baby thing isn't an act. I'm a very sexy baby.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, and then last thing on Coachella, we're not talking about Bieber this week. There's nothing else we want to say. Um, but Casey Musgraves

Kacey Musgraves’ Coachella Set

SPEAKER_04

was added as a last-minute performer to weekend TV.

SPEAKER_05

She fucking rocked it.

SPEAKER_04

The thing about Casey is that not anyone could just get that short of notice and put together a set like she did and just be fucking on because Casey is just like she is a performer who like she sounds like the studio recording live. She her voice is so good. She is just that good.

SPEAKER_05

She uh did a cover of All My Exes Live in Texas by George Strait. Um, I just please I really hope she records it. I know and like drops it because it's so good. It's so good. And her voice is haunting, like a country western voice. Totally, like a Brandy Carlisle. Like it gets well, her voice isn't quite as good as Brandy Carlisle's, but it like gets straight to your soul.

SPEAKER_08

Oh, um, and she sounded awesome.

SPEAKER_05

She looked awesome.

SPEAKER_04

She looked so good.

SPEAKER_05

Her like, she's like thicker than she's been in previous years, and I love every minute of it. Yeah. Um, and every song that she has playing from Did you listen to Rhinestoned yet? She's like clipping this rhinestone. It's so good.

SPEAKER_04

No, what did you think of Middle of Nowhere? Loved it. Loved it. It's so interesting. So if you haven't listened to Middle of Nowhere, the verses are fast and it goes to a build, and then the chorus slows way down, and it's kind of disorienting for a second. It crescendoes and then it goes really slow. The chorus like pulls back. It's a little jarring the first listen. Yes. Because you're expecting something bigger and then it pulls way back. But it makes total sense for what the song is. Um music theory?

SPEAKER_06

Um she had a record pitchfork, bitch fork.

SPEAKER_04

Um I just consume a lot of content and there's nowhere for me to go with it, but to pretend that I'm smarter than I am. And I'm like, Meanwhile, someone who actually understands music is listening, and they're like, this dumb bitch doesn't know what she's talking about. That's not the right term.

SPEAKER_05

Well, this is my podcast. This is gonna be me, like with a bunch of people that I haven't talked to in a while. I'm like, I really like Middle of Nowhere because like the crochet. No, if you think like you think it's gonna rame up and I'm gonna completely pretend like I was mighty.

SPEAKER_04

I want you to do that. I want you to. I I bequeath to you. So I really liked it. Um, I'm so excited for her album. But no, her set was good. And she had a famous Coachella set years ago. When I say ye, you say ha. Didn't say fucking yeah it's so but you have to put that clip in. I will. It's so funny. When I say ye!

unknown

You say ha!

SPEAKER_06

I didn't say fucking yeah.

SPEAKER_04

She was amazing, very excited for her new music. Her new album drops May 1st. Oh my god, so soon.

SPEAKER_05

Can't wait. So excited. Lots of good music coming out. Yeah, very excited for that. That might be a good um flyover deep dive, too. Like a slide listening to it.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I love that. So we have some table scraps this week.

SPEAKER_05

My first table scrap is Big Mistake on Netflix,

Dan Levy’s Big Mistakes

SPEAKER_05

the new show with Dan Levy from Shits Creek. Um and it was also written by, which I thought was so random, like uh Rachel Sennett, who um you'll know from I Love LA. And she's just like one of those Hollywoodic girls, right? Indie Hollywoodic girls. Um I so the first two episodes were like kind of bad. It's like um a very, and Lauren gave me this very murder, only murders in the building. Like it's about crime, but it's like very still low stakes. Um, like the bad guys are like silly, you know? Like they're not never really like sinister. Yeah. Um it's very like how when I was young, we had like mumble core. Like this is like what I'd say, like yelling core, which Dan Levy like does a lot of where it's like it's it's almost like they're ad-libbing, but they're not saying because they're not saying anything interesting. They're like, what do you mean? What are you gonna do? What am I gonna do? Like very bare-coated, yeah, yeah. Chaotic. Yes, yeah, everyone's panicking. Uh, but it really finds its feet, it's really good. The acting is really good. Lori Metcalf is like the B plot, she's their mom.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Oh my god. Aunt Becky, for those or no, I'm so sorry, Aunt Jackie. Aunt Jackie. Yeah. If if Dan Levy doesn't give you uh anything, he's still gonna give you such a fucking style. Yes. Like everything is so he his taste is exquisite level. Yeah. So like this taste of like this like New Jersey town, like the sets are amazing. The way they dress Lori Metcalf, like, is exactly how a 64-year-old New Jersey mom would dress. Yeah. Um, acting really great. And it kind of reminded me of Shits Creek in the fact that, like, if you at least for me personally, like the first like three episodes of Shits Creek, I'm like, eh, this is annoying.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, this is any comedy. Yeah, most comedy shows, the first one to three episodes, you're like, what the fuck? Every person who's ever told me to watch a comedy is like, no, but the first two episodes are really bad. Just hang in there.

SPEAKER_05

I mean, it's true. It's so true. It's like when they're not like that, you're like, oh my god, it just like right off the bat was so good. Yeah. Like a true detective, for example. Correct. Um, but by the end of the season, it's like eight, it's a very Netflix, like eight episodes. 30 minutes. They're like maybe a little over. Okay. Um, I cannot wait for the second season. Um, I think it'll be great. Yeah, I yeah. When I am 47 years old, when I'm on when I retire, it's gonna be great to watch season two. Finally monetize this podcast. Season two will be dropped. Uh so I highly recommend if you're looking for a new like silly Netflix show.

SPEAKER_04

Speaking of silly Netflix shows, Running

Running Point Season two

SPEAKER_04

Point is season two drops this week, I believe, this Thursday. Um, and I'm actually going through and I'm watching season one of Running Point. So, for those of you who don't know, it is a really funny um sitcom on Netflix starring Kate Hudson. She's so good in it. Um, Justin Thoreau is in it, and then um who do we know the other two brothers?

SPEAKER_05

So one of the brothers is he was in the Righteous Gemstones, is what I know him from. Uh, but they're like comedy actors, like very famous comedy actors.

SPEAKER_04

You will know them. You might not know how you know them, but you'll be like, I know I've seen him or something.

SPEAKER_05

Yes.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, so the premise of the show is like it's this family dynasty. They own the Los Angeles Waves basketball team, which doesn't exist in real life. Um, and all of the siblings work for the basketball team. Her oldest brother is the CEO, and he, in like a drug crack-induced haze, crashes a car, has to go to rehab, and he appoints her as the new CEO, and everybody's like shocked. So it's like her journey of like getting the team into shape, and it's just fun. Like, I absolutely love it. It's funny. Kate Hudson's great.

SPEAKER_05

Chet Hanks is in it, and he's fabulous. Yes. You definitely have to like there's a suspension of disbelief because we're supposed to believe that like 40-year-old Chet Hanks is a professional basketball player.

SPEAKER_04

23-year-old professional basketball player.

SPEAKER_05

Staggered, like five'eight. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Like a really good basketball player.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. Also, uh Drew Traver, Traver is in it. Um, and he is like the dorky, like the straight lace brother that probably should have like taken it over. Like, I think he was like he's like the do-gooder. Yeah. He is in a show called The Other Two. Um, that's where you would know him from. If you've never seen the other two, please watch it. It's so funny. Um, and it's just good.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, it's just good. And it's quick 30-minute episodes. I want to say maybe eight or ten.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, you'll breeze through it.

SPEAKER_04

You'll breeze through it. Yeah, it's a great show. So definitely watch that. And then lots of comedy talk this week because season four.

SPEAKER_05

The final season of Hacks has a question mark. Hopefully. I'm ready for this to wrap up. Um, the first two seasons of Hacks

Hacks Final Season

SPEAKER_05

are my favorite television show, television series of all time. Like the way I would describe the first two seasons of Hacks is that I wish it was like a 10,000-page book that I could live inside of. Yeah. Um the Vegas atmosphere, the the side characters, like the colorful side characters, um, their interpretation of of Deborah being this like QVC comedian, um, was so fabulous. I will say I was thinking a lot about because we kind of agreed that the the the first two episodes have premiered and they're like fine. Yeah. Um they're not funny. Like, I don't think I laughed. Maybe I like chuckled once. Yeah, agreed. Um, it's like what ends up happening, I will say, with comedies when they last too long, which is why I'm always a proponent of like two season comedies, three-season comedies, is that you start with these like really flawed, gritty characters, and then like it's clear that the writers like fall in love with these characters and kind of flatten them. Like they're not allowed to be unflattering or unlikable or do bad things because they love these characters so much. So it's just gonna be them like being cute and like having conflicts that wrap up by the end of the episode, right? Nobody really gets into fights and just kind of again like flattened, dulled versions of their previous selves.

SPEAKER_04

Because like Deborah and Ava are like not super likable. They're not supposed to be in the first, like the first two seasons.

SPEAKER_05

Like Deborah is a very flawed, like racist, like evil, like she was supposed to be like, yeah, like an archie bunker type of character. Yes. Like we were supposed like, and the reason why we enjoyed watching her is because we kind of see her stumble and fall.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

But like, but it's like, oh no, well now she's endearing and we love her, so we're gonna have to win a lot. But it's like, but she's also not that like she also doesn't deserve all of this.

SPEAKER_04

She doesn't deserve all this, right? I know. So it did get a really high score on Rotten Tomatoes. So like the screeners are really liking it. Okay. I am really hoping it picks up and that it ends on a high note because it is such a good show. Hannah Einbender won a golden globe for it, didn't she? And she deserved it. She deserved it.

SPEAKER_05

She acted, I'm not, and again, like it's it's okay to shift in tone. We talk about how that's an issue with me. Um, I'm hoping I'm finding other judgmental bitches out here through this podcast. Um, but her acting last season was really good. The range they put her in.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, she was so funny last season. She was so funny. LOL. Like the screaming about Branzino doesn't travel well. Give her the Emmy.

SPEAKER_06

I get here every morning at 5:30 on the dot. One time I walked in on the janitor jerking off because he didn't think anyone else was here. And I didn't report it because he probably doesn't get paid a living wage. And by the way, Branzino doesn't travel well. You should never order it to go. I quit. So good.

SPEAKER_04

Give her the Emmy. You have to watch hacks. It's so good. So I think we're watching season four per for posterity. We will ride with them until the end.

SPEAKER_05

Absolutely.

SPEAKER_04

So, okay, anything else we need to go over?

SPEAKER_05

That was a lot. No, we are doing a our first ever flyover deep dive Besties Book Club pick of yesteryear. So we are hoping to get that out. I don't know. I don't know, guys. Don't give yourself a timeline.

SPEAKER_04

Emily's editing this week. We both have a lot going on. It's still gonna be very much like top of top of mind. It's gonna be a surprise episode. Yeah. Surprise drop. So it's gonna be on your toes. Yeah, look out for that. Um, but be sure to like and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts and share us with all of your friends, with your besties, and follow us on social media at MidwestBesties Pod on TikTok and Instagram.

SPEAKER_05

Love you guys. Bye bye.

SPEAKER_02

I'm gonna surf log.

SPEAKER_04

Uh crescendo!
