San Antonio's like Disney World. You can't do it all in one visit. You always have to come back. Yeah, it's the vibe. It's just a relaxing vibe. And you know, when I think of the Pearl on a Saturday morning, and you know, I think of a sundress shorts, just comfortable, laid back, kick back, everybody's just out mingling, vendors, just it's just a good time. And that's the thing that you gotta love. Something that is free. Everybody, and and you feel like you just um took a flight to a different location and you're just walking around in a different culture. And it's just very, very nice.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Hey everyone. So today, okay, so um this season we're talking about having your bag or the bags that we carry, right? Um, and in a positive way. I mean, we have some negative things and we have positive things that we carry around, right? We have ways where, you know, some bags down through the years we have like let go of and then picked up good bags, right? Um, and then one of the things that we want to talk about today are those diamonds or those uh uh uh beautiful gems that you have just here. Sometimes we're looking all around and we go far, a far place off, right, to get something, right? But here in San Antonio, we have local gems. And um, we want to talk about those today. You know, whenever I have someone come in, like my family or friends comes in to visit, I'm always like, okay, where are we gonna take on? You know, and there's always at least three top places that I always take people. There's so many places. You know what? San Antonio's like Disney World. You can't do it all in one visit. You always have to come back and uh and see the like when you're here, you're like, okay, when we come back, we're gonna do this, this, this, and this, right? So, or if I'm out and about and I meet someone that's visiting, I'm like, okay, but have you been here? But have you been here? But have you been here? And so my top three, typically the top three as have you been to the Pearl district? Have you been to King's Williams District? And have you been to the Art District? Have you have y'all been to all three of those? I know you've been to the Pearl. I know you've been to the Pearl. Yes. But have you been to Kings Williams? No.

So, okay, so I had to make sure. Oh, I'm sorry. I had to make sure I wrote this down, right? Because it's okay. I love actually just walking the King uh King Williams um historical district there, but um it is a place that has grand 19th century homes built by German immigrants. So there's so if you walk, so you know the river walk, it goes all through there, also, right? And so you could just walk and you look over and you see these beautiful homes that were built by German immigrants, right? Um, and you actually, so that's one of the good things about San Antonio, also, like there's all these niches in different places, no matter what your background is, you're going to find, you can step into a place and just almost step into that era, right? And so the King Williams district is the same way. So you have to go check it out. So um there is uh the Victorian mansions that are um over there. Yeah, I know what I'm talking about. The Victoria Mansions over there. Um there, you know, are beautiful restored homes on Madison and Turner Streets. I don't know if y'all have been over on those streets. Um, and just the street, the water, the river that comes there is a little bit softer over there than the river walk. Okay. So you're just and you can see people coming from their homes, getting in their boats and just going down on that side of the of the river and just fishing. Wow. You know, and they're like, hey, you're like, hey, okay. Wow. Wow. You guys should check it out. Check it out. Check it out. Um, there is the Gonthers House, that's in that district. So that's in that district. So um if you're coming to San Antonio, gotta check that one out. There is the Blue Star Art Complex that's in that district.

Um I'm not sure about the restaurant. It may be, okay, so um over there's some art galleries and local shops. Um, you know what? You remember when um we went into that art place? Okay, no, where we went to make the glass?

There's this other little place right down the street from it where you can become a member and you could just go and do anything, anything, any kind of art, any kind of you know, over in that area. So it's really nice to just go, you should just go over there and just drive around and look. You're gonna find, we talk about we're talking about like the hidden gems. You're gonna find like what? I didn't know that that was there. What? Oh, we have to do that. And I would say the cost of doing some of those things, you know, having some of those experiences, in my opinion, is not that experience expensive, right? Um by the way, uh Airbnb, the app, uh, every time the app, uh Airbnb, they have added two special buttons, and one of us is is called experiences. And so no matter where you are, so you're here in San Antonio, you can push that button or click that, and then it'll tell you all the things that are happening that you could just book, you know? Um, so but a lot of the things here in San Antonio are free. Look, she's write that down. Okay, so the Pearl District. Now, what do y'all like? Because y'all have been to the Pearl. What do you like about the Pearl District?

I like the calmness, I like the peace. Um, there's families there. Um, it's beautiful scenes there, but I just it just feels comfortable. It just feels inviting and relaxing. You know, not a lot of thrills, but it's fun. There's a lot of um restaurants, there's a lot of shops there. Um, the kids are in the floating up water, um, and you know, people are just mingling with one another. So that's what I like the most about the pearl.

There's some history also with the pearl. Um, some of the history that I've learned when I first got here, I found out wasn't true. But but the Pearl used to be a brewery, right? Yes, right there. Uh-huh. And and then uh Hotel Emma and all that over there is like a you is a castle or something, a palace or something like that. Um, and there's some true things and not so true things that you'll probably hear. But that's a part of the culture in the club. Like, did you know? Is that true? You know, so there's some um rumors about uh Hotel Emma and Miss Emma and all that kind of stuff, and then some truth to it also. Um, if you go over to the Pearl District, what is the name of the hotel over there? Is it Hotel Emma? Yeah, Hotel Emma. Yeah, Hotel Emma, but what's the one that's right across from it? It's it has our one of our favorite hotel, I mean one of our favorite um restaurants. Oh my gosh. It's the restaurant right across from Hotel Hemma. Anyway, if you be Italian one, no anyway. When you go into it's the one that has the little shops all around it. And you if you go into it, it actually gives you the true history of the Pearl district and the brewery and how it went from one hand to the next and all that kind of stuff. And so it's actually some good, it's some tea. You want to go and check out that tea. It's really good.

Now don't forget they've also added another little section too, which is the Pullman Market. Oh, yeah. Or our friend, yeah, Miss Africa. Uh, she's there, and that's a really very fun place uh as well. It's got a market, it's got some really great um restaurants. One's a Michelin restaurant. So yeah, that's a fun little we've gone there for bunkers a couple times. Yeah. Just to get some work done. But the the vibe, again, it's got a really nice vibe. Yeah. Really nice vibe.

Yeah. All around the pearl also are the um the uh condos where people live and stuff. It's just it's it's that vibe. It's it's really nice. I think a lot of major cities have um that condo kind of thing where you can just live here and you don't really have to go anywhere. It's all that but San Antonio's vibe is different, it is different. It's definitely different from other cities. Yeah. So, what are some other local gens that you so I learned one?

Um, it's I don't know how long it's been there. You actually got me on this one. It's called the Rock at La Cantera. And um, I had no idea. It's I mean, how many times have I passed by this place? I've been here 16 years. Um, it's not that old, but it's a really cool little, it's similar to the Pearl in a way, um, but there's a large gym, and that's where our Spurs they do their their practices at. And it's another space. They have a large screen uh TV where they'll show movies. Um, I know right now we're in the um in the uh the playoffs. So I know tonight there might, they may, we might need to go tonight. Yeah, they'll be playing um uh the playoffs will be shown on there. They have a beautiful restaurant, they have uh um many different food trucks there, um sitting area, they got places where kids can shoot baskets and play in the water.

It's really cool. Um, and there's also the Spurs little store. You can go in there and buy some Spurs uh gear, but it's a great place. We just had a recent birthday party for Mr. Warmly. Um milestone one, about 30 of us were there, and um it's just a it was just a very, very nice, calming, um, but fun place to spend time with family and friends and meet new people too. So I like the the the rock at La Cantera.

Yeah, it's open to the to the public. Yeah, uh, I uh uh when I happened up on the uh the rocket la Canterra, we talked to a security guard. Listen, the security guards and the people who work at those different places that's over there, they absolutely are uh pleasant to talk to. And that speaks to uh the way the organization, I guess, is is ran. They're just you know, and he was just like, you know, a lot of people don't know about this, and you guys need to come back, and yeah, we have this and we have that, and you need to do this. Like, wow, wow. And so I did not know that we had that. Um I just found out about that maybe about four months ago, is that? Yeah, and it's been here all this time. Um you know, we were actually invited. My husband and I were invited to um uh Frost Bank is one of the sponsors. We were invited to uh a day, not a day with the Spurs, but we were a Spurs, something like that. We were the Spurs, you know, and so we got to go and play basketball with them, with a couple of the guys and stuff. It was really fun, and and it was there, and I was like, what is this place, you know? So it's like wow, we have been missing out. I mean, they have rhythm and beats, is that what it's called? Yes, rhythm and beats once a month during the springtime, once a month they have that. Um, so you you just you just have to come and check and it's and that's free. We have a lot of free, nice things here in San Antonio, right? Um, and that's free. You just need to get there early so you can find a parking space.

Now, my other one is um I have my production crew in the background getting ready to correct me if I don't say it right. I asked them to make sure that they they hear me. Y'all ready? You got this. Say it again. La Vita. La Vieta. La Vita. Still can't get it right, but you heard them, you heard them. Thank you, Anthony. Thank you. I know Ernest is back to laughing. Um which means um in English, uh little village. And it's um, I like that place. It's got cobblestone, um, a lot of shops, artistren shops there. Um, it is just a quaint, it's got a lot of history. Um, but I'm just I know I'm in San Antonio. You I should my Spanish should be a lot better. I know. I've been here a long time. But uh it's a it's a very nice, and it's it's off downtown, not too far from the um the river walk. But if you're ever in town or if you're in town, you should uh also go check that out. Now, my favorite spots during spring and summer um revolves around jazz. So we have some places that um have a lot of jazz, local jazz artists. Some sometimes they come from um across the country. So at La Canteta, which is also known for one of our malls, they have um um spots where they'll have a jazz night. Um Friday night, Saturday, or Sunday, and it's underneath the the uh the trees and the tea garden. The tea garden is another one um by our zoo, Brackin Ridge Park. Um, and then they have some of those a couple weekends, um, I think starting in May, because we've been to a couple of those. And then um another spot is Mull of Americas. Um they have it outside. Now that one's a uh that usually happens in August or September time frame. The only problem, it is hot. It is hot, um, it's in the evening times, and oftentimes people will, it's on a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Um couple weekends in a row in August or September. Where is that again? It's off of uh 410. Um it's like a farmer's market? No, uh uh it's actually it's called Mall of America's where we we've we've voted there before. Oh yeah. Um there's a target, it's across from the Marriott Hotel.

And so um what people will do is people will come out the night before on a Thursday night and find their spot and put their lawn chairs and blankets there so that when they come back uh on on Friday to partake in the um the event, they got their space. So you gotta come prepared. Um and then you gave a tidbit about Airbnb. I'm gonna give a tidbit to my veterans, my veteran family. It's called VetTix.

Veterans, please make sure it's a free um sign up and it allows you to get tickets, it allows you to know what's going on in your community or even in your state. Um, and I've gone to some um some Spurs games, had some really great tickets. Um, I was able to bring my family and friends. Um, and if I travel, let's say I'm going to Las Vegas or Minneapolis or whatever, I can also put in what's going on in that city or state and find out what their offerings and I can partake in those as well. So it's called Vet Tix, V-E-T, and then T-I-X. And you can put in what you're interested from concerts to museums, amusement parks, um you know, um sports and entertainment. So anything that your fancy likes to partake in, check it out. Next.

Let me look it up. Yeah, okay. Um I have an oldie, but I think it's a goodie, and you kind of brushed over it a little bit was the Japanese tea garden. Yes. So, I mean, 90 years of history, and it's just culminated right there in the center of San Antonio. If you want to feel like you're when my family comes, we go there and we take photos because you have this big, wonderful waterfall that's just flowing. You got bridges that are over koi ponds, you have a nice little quaint little uh dining area. I mean, it's just a wonder. And then when you mentioned the cobblestone and all of that art and just history, it is just a way. If you want to feel like you are in San Antonio but out of San Antonio all at the same time, the Japanese tea garden is a great place to go. Oh, wow. And just have, if you want to do a picnic, if you want to hang out, and it's absolutely free. And that's the thing that you gotta love. Something that is free. Everybody, and and you feel like you just um took a flight to a different location and you're just walking around in a different culture, and it's just very, very nice. So that's one of my favorite areas to go to.

Yeah, yeah. So it's a it's a little, I say the oldie but goodie because it's been around for so long, but it is definitely one of those things that you got to do if you haven't done that for sure.

You can all you have to do is book it and you can have that beautiful background. So it's like you're in like a little tropical place and all that at the same time. It's really it's a real nice place, yeah.

And I think you said it's down from the zoo, right across from the view. So you can outside of the T guard, like even surrounding all that, there's it's just a nice view, um picturesque places uh to just sit down and just relax, you know, for the day. Um, even on a warm day, you probably could find a place where there's just kind of cool because of the shading and stuff.

Laid back. Um we stroll. Um, great place to have girlfriends, and you're walking, then window shopping. Window shopping turns into extra shopping. Um, they have a lot of Airbnbs there, they have a lot. Of wine um sipping, wine excursions, tours. Um, so it's it's a nice little laid back little air, kind of hill country-ish. Yeah, I like it.

And they have a really good, um, I can't think of the name of it, but there's a great steak restaurant that everybody goes there. I can't think of the name of it. Um, but a lot of different eateries and different things and restaurants uh to enjoy. Yes. And you get that whole European culture, German feel. So gotcha.

And and and then it's uh I hear that it's a nice place to go for the holiday, like around things. Oh yes, I love going to the world. If we were trying to do that once, yeah. I love going to the phone. All that kind of stuff. And ornaments. Ornaments, yeah. Yeah, it's a good place to do it.

And I haven't done I haven't done that restaurant yet. Yeah. I like it. It again, it's a nice nice little you just walk down and they're kind of antique. They have some antiques there, and they have some um some uh t-shirts, and um there's a general store there. Um another quaint, fun little spot.

Yeah. It's some uh they have a lot of outdoor fun too. When you go out there, you can do tubing over there. Um you can there's an 1800 cotton gin overlooking the river. Okay. Um if you hadn't been over there, you should go check that out. Um and they have a dance hall. They have a dance hall.

They have a dance hall, and that's fun. I I've been to the dance hall. Um, they had a lot of country and western um going on uh when I went that night. And it was really fun. I mean, just to see everybody, you know, get involved with the artist and enjoy each other's company. Um that was fun.

I think uh and so each one of those pla those two places are about maybe 25 20 to 25 um miles away. Um so just a nice one-day getaway or a nice uh go and then stay the night and then come on back, right? Yeah, just if you just want to try to get away, but still close enough, right?

And it's a fun area because you also have Slitterbahn, yeah, which is a water park, that is a whole weekend. Yes, um, um, water park, and then you also have the outlet mall, San Marcus. Oh and um yeah, San Marcus, you'll lose your mind out there. Um, and it's not too far from Austin, probably about 25-30 minutes from um Austin from um San Marcus. So it's a great stationary spot, uh, green, because you have so many different things you can do as well.

Yeah. There's another water park right next to is it two uh places or is it two different water parks, or is it the same water park? It might be the same water park in one.

It's huge. Yeah, I mean you can't. Yeah, it's really like and there are condos next to it that you can um rent out.

Yes, yeah. Okay, so I'm gonna come back in town and say that um hidden gym that we have is uh the way that we can do outreach also. So we have Goodwill, for example. Anytime, is it Goodwill? What's the one we always go to? It's goodwill, right?

Or Goodwill, we have the food bank.

Yeah, the food bank. Okay. So Haven for Hope. Food bank. I'm gonna go to the food bank first. If you just want to do something on any day, any time of the day, all you have to do is go online and look up food bank and see where they need you. Literally, listen, you may not want to be in the kitchen. They got other things you can do. They got a garden. Some a garden. Um administrative. Yes. Yes. Years ago, we used to go to the airport to help uh our immigrants that are coming in during their last leg, right? Uh, so that was years ago. But anything, you will probably find something that you want to do and they need your help in, right? And then Goodwill, same thing. Uh, you can go on and see what they have. There are um uh you can go and open up boxes and hang up uh uh clothes, take pictures, and then they put and then they take that and put it online um and have auctions on it. But goodwill actually, the monies that they have help the community, help women and men that are um otherwise would not have resources to um what is it called? Rags and riches? I don't know what you would call it, but literally the people who are working for the majority of the people who are working for Goodwill are people that were homeless at one time or battered women or whatever the case may be, and they have gone through school because of Goodwill and because of your efforts helping. Um, and now they are, I don't know, managers and yeah, and powers that be because of the things that Goodwill has done.

I partnered with Goodwill when I was in um Austin at one of the hospitals, and we brought in a lot of um great candidates, and actually we ended up hiring them. Um, and they went on through our um medical system to different positions. Some became CNAs and went back to school for other opportunities within the hospital. So Goodwill actually helped us tremendously fill in those gaps where we needed um people in those spaces. Yeah. Yeah, Goodwill is a great organization.

Yeah, there are even the um women's shelters and uh shelters for the homeless, uh, San Antonio. Uh when I tell you just it's a welcoming heart to help people. There are so many different uh shelters that will allow you, whether you want to serve, throw a party, wherever you uh provide dinner or or lunch for uh women's shelters or women facing domestic violence and um and their children need somewhere safe to be, uh you can participate in that as well. So just all you have to do is put in women's shelters. Where can I support? The list is endless.

Right. Yeah, right. Um we also have Haven for Hope. So Haven for Hope, I'm gonna read, um, is a large nationally recognized campus in San Antonio, Texas that provides a one-stop approach to help people experiencing homelessness move from the street streets to stable housing. Um, I know I have volunteered um at Haven for Hope for um many opportunities. One was to prepare food and serve for um breakfast and lunch. Um I'm in an organization that we also um support those veteran women that are at Haven for Hope. Um and we get together, the organization that I'm in, uh one of our committees is working with um veteran women and veteran community. And so we make sure that we provide them with the needs that that they are requesting and um you know help them along their journey. So San Antonio um is a great city that really is is families, inclusive of family, and making sure that everyone has a seat at the table in any type of capacity.

Yes, and apparently a lot of people have found that out because we got an influx. Oh goodness. They love San Antonio. Our infrastructure is just like, whoa, wait a minute, just trying to catch up with uh all the people coming in. Um but you know, we're inclusive and uh, you know, and then because of that, I think it what's happening with San Antonio is going out this way, and we're getting closer to Austin. There's a lot of great churches that are look doing a lot of great things in the city uh to just make things better for people overall. So even the school systems, too. Right. I mean, reading programs. There's I mean, if you want to volunteer, if you want to do something for someone else, there are tons of opportunity to do that. It really is.

So and volunteering, I find, you know, when you're kind of feeling a little low, volunteering changes that mindset. Those endorphins, it changes that mindset because you're feeling you're doing something for somebody else out and you're not focusing on you. Whenever I have work to do, I'll go there and just kind of do my work there all day.

It's such a cute little shop. And uh what you will find outside of the wonderful Aki bowls and all those things uh that they have, you will find a wall, and on this wall are uh prayer requests. Oh and if the prayers have been answered, you move it from one side of the wall to the other side of the wall. If you decided that you wanted to pray for a particular request, you just put a heart on it to let them know you're praying with them.

It is such a peaceful environment. Um, I went in there the other day and I just thought, oh my gosh, this is a true hidden gem. Um, their menu is good. It's good. Um, their restaurant is even better. Um, that's a fun spot. One Watson has got great views um of the city. Um I also like Moon's daughter. So um that's a great spot. There's an in an inside, of course, um, which is always lively and great music, and then you can also sit outside and eat. And again, it's got great, great views of of the city. So those are a couple, and of course, I like my bazillion uh steakhouses, um, Fuga de Chow, um Kama, chama, Gucci or something. I don't know.

Like if I was gonna leave today and I was by myself and I was it would be one of those two. Yeah. Um I like Himalayan uh and um Tarka. Those are like my go-to places because man, they and and over at Parsha, Parsha Grill, that whole complex is just all of that is just the Middle Eastern and the grocery store over there, and just I mean, you can find anything you want in that place. Um yeah, those are my go. And that's that really is in my opinion a gem that we have here. Um if you are switching over, you know, from dietarily, if you're switching over to not eating meats and you honey variety, just walk up in one of those shops and you'll find a whole lot of things that you can do.

Wow, it was a show. Uh we went and we were just blown away eating our gourmet popcorn and all uh just it was a good time.

Yes, same with the update of Texas, and we also have the mission's um minor league baseball team. Now, when they're in town at about 10 o'clock when the game is over, the fireworks go off as well. So, yeah, yeah, I hear that. My dogs go crazy.
