Yeah, no, we had a great time being able to share our testimonies with you. And hopefully, over the last couple of episodes, you've just got to know mine and Sarah's hearts a little bit. Um, and you've got to know us as people a little bit more. And so, yeah, now we're really excited to, I suppose, jump into the first proper episode and get, yeah, really talking about why, in a sense, why we're actually doing this. And that leads us up to the next beautiful part is we're going to be talking about Jesus.

Who is Jesus? (Part 1)

Um, we're going to be talking about who is Jesus, and this would be in two parts, won't it?

Yeah, no, absolutely. So yeah, let's just uh maybe pray quickly and then we'll start. Lord, I just pray that as we do this podcast, that you would just come and speak through us, come and touch our hearts and help us to learn and all grow and become more like you. In Jesus' name. Amen. Amen. And so, yeah, darling, do you want to start?

Jesus as the Son of God

Yeah, so who is Jesus? So, Jesus is the son of God. I know that people um get that really confused. I know that if you're not a Christian, that can be something that how does God have a son? Um, but we just want to read a scripture to you. We are Christians, so we're gonna the scripture is our fundamental um source that we use to share this podcast with you. So Isaiah 9, 6, for unto us a child is born, and unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulders, and he shall be called wonderful counselor, mighty God, everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace. And really, what we're trying to show here is that Jesus is a part of the Trinity. God is one, but he expresses himself in three different parts. God the Father, he came down as the Son, you know, to give to die for our sins, and God lives in us through the Holy Spirit, all three in one darling. Is there anything else you

Yeah, and I think the an a good analogy that I like to use that I find sometimes helped me as well when I first became a Christian, and I know has helped sometimes other people is when you think of water, for example, you get water that you drink, you get ice, and then you also get steam. You know, in a sense, they're all still water, but just in different forms. And so that's the way that I describe the Trinity is you get obviously the Father God, you get Jesus, who is the Son of God, but God in flesh, and then you get the Holy Spirit, which comes and lives inside of us. They are all still God, you can't separate them, you can't have one without the other. And so you put them all together, and that's I find the way to describe the Trinity is just exactly the same as water. You get them in different forms, but you cannot separate them in a sense.

Yeah, and and they're beautiful, and the father compliments the father, the father compliments the son, and Jesus said that the Holy Spirit bears witness for Jesus, and uh John 1 14 says, And the word became flesh and dwelt among us. Jesus, the word of God, became flesh, God became a human being for our sake, for our justification to die for our sins. So that's really what it means when Jesus um is the son of God. And now, obviously, if you go into more theology and you look at that word son of God, it's talking about actually God in flesh. So there's more to it than actually the what our human minds can comprehend. But Jesus came to show us the father, and in order to show someone the father, you've got to be a son, you've got to be able to have to be a son to understand fatherhood. So he came to show us the father, and he came as the son, so it's just wonderful.

Why Jesus came to save the world

no, it's great, and you know that kind of leads us on to the next point. It says in John 3 16, it says, For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, yeah, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. In 1 John 4, verse 14 it says, And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his son to be the Saviour of the world. And then in John 10, verse 17 and 18 it says, The reason my father loves me is that I lay down my life only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down on my own accord, and I have full authority to lay it down, and authority to take it up again. We see there from those scriptures that you know he came to this earth, and that he whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life, that he's the saviour of the world, that he came to this uh this lie, and he came to give his life up, basically. And he says, but he also has the authority to take it up again. And so, you know, it's just amazing that we see from those scriptures.

Jesus the Good Shepherd

also shows that Jesus is God, you know, like from like we shared that testimonies earlier, you know, for someone to be a savior, they've got to have some authority, they've got to have something in them to save the world. No one, I've never heard of anyone speak that they've come to save the world, you know, yet Jesus has the authority to do that. And you know, that leads us to our next point where Jesus is the good shepherd. You know, this is a a concept that some people um don't take too seriously, or it's it's like a little, it's a little like Sunday school lesson. But Jesus Christ is our shepherd, you know, he himself said um that I am the good shepherd, I know my sheep, and my sheep know me, just as the father knows me, I know the father, and I laid down my life for the sheep. You know, I've just written a blog, darling, on um Jesus being the good shepherd, and I in there I explore that a shepherd feeds, leads, corrects. Um they they look for the one that's missing, they go ahead of you. And so, guys, we have our God came in flesh, as we've described, as the son, then he's gone ahead of us to lead the way, he leads us as our shepherd. And um it's so beautiful, darling. In in in um Psalms, David said, The Lord is my shepherd. Yeah, it was almost like he foresaw what was important, and then Jesus confounded himself, I am the good shepherd. So maybe you're a Christian and you're watching this and you're listening to us and you're wondering, how can I relate that into my daily life? Just remember that a shepherd leads, guides, feeds, corrects, and just relate to the Lord as your good shepherd in that way. Isn't that beautiful?

What it means to follow the Shepherd

no, it's wonderful. It's beautiful that as you say, we are ish, we are a sheep, and he is our shepherd. And in a sense, you know, sheep just they just follow, don't they? There's there's an innocence they follow the shepherd, they trust him, they know that he will protect them and keep them safe. And so when you just think about the simplicity of it, is we don't have anything in a sense, anything else to do but from just to follow Jesus, and he it says, seek me and you will find me. And um you know, and it also says uh seek, seek me and I will give you everything else that you need. Yeah, and uh seek first the kingdom of God. Seek first the kingdom of God and I will give you everything else you need. And it's basically it's when you think of that in the context of even sheep, is we just seek Jesus, we build our lives on him, we follow him, and he will basically take care of every other one of our needs. Not so that's not saying we don't go to work or anything like that, but that's saying that God is with us in all of these things in the s in the details, but we just have to keep our eyes on him and include him in everything. Yeah, and that's the beautiful I find the so beautiful, it's it's so simple yet so profound, if that makes sense. It's beautiful, and so even going on to our next point, it says Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. In John 14,

Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life

verse 6, it said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. Wow, you see, this is the part where I think people can miss it, but the only way that we can get to God is by accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. You see, he's the only one that died on the cross for humanity, he's the only one that gave his life up for humanity, where humanity rejected him and they said they didn't want him, and we've all tried to live life in our own strength or do things our own way. Yet Jesus came, died on that cross as an innocent sacrifice for each and every one of us, and has made a way where we can have eternal life for him. And he basically and that's what it says I am the way, the truth, and the life. He is the life. No one comes to the Father except we can't have a relationship with God but not have but not want Jesus. You know what I mean? They are connected, it goes back to the Trinity, they're all three and one, they're connected. You can't separate it and just think I'll just have the Father or I'll just have Jesus or I just have the Holy Spirit. They're intertwined, they're one, and so you know that's the reality is we can only get to the Father through Jesus.

And you know, this that Jesus is the way. As a Christian, I need a reminder of that. Hey, I'm not here to do my own thing, I'm here to follow Jesus. He is the way. That means that any other way apart from him is off. It's not, it's not the it's not live, it's no, it's not gonna help us. And um, maybe you're wondering who what is the right religion or what faith should I follow? We're not here to pit faiths and religions against each other, we're here to say that Jesus said he's the way, the truth, and the life, and um he's the good shepherd. And um, and the reason why he's even the way is leads us to our next point that Jesus is God, you know. People um struggle to believe

Jesus is God in the flesh

this because they they they you know, but God can do whatever he wants. If God could make human beings honey, why can't he manifest himself as a human himself to come and save the world? You know, he can do whatever he wants, but we don't want to convince you, we want to read the scriptures. First Timothy 3 says, Great indeed we confess is a way of mystery and godliness that he was manifest in the flesh, you know, vindicated by the spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world and taken up to glory. And I just think that's wonderful. For me, the idea that God decided to become a human being to come and die for our sins makes me feel so wonderful because a human being cannot forgive our sins. I mean, sorry, a human being cannot give us eternal life. They can, you know, they they they don't have the power, only God has the power to give us eternal life, to forgive our sins internally and for us to live with him forever. And uh, and that's why John says, In the beginning was the word. The word was with God, the word was God, he was with God in the beginning, through him all things were made, you know, and then it goes on, and then in verse 14 it says, And the word begins with the words.

Before you

The Word became flesh

read that next one, let's just stop there and talk about this. It says, In the I love this scripture, and I mean there's so much that you can talk about this. I mean, you could do a whole Bible study. There's so much to it, but it says, In the beginning was the word. I should I want to start by saying the word of God, you know, is alive and powerful. It says it's that it's sharper than any any two-edged sword. And so, you know, where the very word, the the Bible is the very word of God. It is, and it says, in the beginning was the word. Yeah, the word was with God, and the word was God. So you can't separate God and the word, you cannot separate them, they're together, they're one. You know what I mean? And so it says he was with God in the beginning, through him all things were made, without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light to all mankind. And so we see, we know that Jesus is the light of the world, and yet so Jesus is the word of God in a sense, and it says it in that verse 14. Sorry, darling. No, no, go for it. Take over it says the word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. Come on, that is profound. I want to say that again. The word, so Jesus was in the beginning, and he was the word of God, he became flesh and made his dwelling among us. He came and lived on this earth, he came and made earth his home. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son who came from the Father full of grace and truth. My goodness.

Why Christmas and Easter matter

It's wonderful. In fact, for me, I think you know, that is what makes me even more secure in my faith.

Yeah, absolutely.

You know, knowing that actually, you know, God isn't asking us, He came down, He came. Um, I think another translation says, and the word um tabernacle like hid himself in the neighborhood, like became among the people. It's so beautiful. That's why we celebrate Christmas, darling. That the word of God, God, the Son of God came. You know, we celebrate Christmas, and many people don't even know what Christmas is all about. We celebrate Easter. Many people don't know what that is about. The fact that Jesus decided, like he came, he lived as a baby. Imagine God, who can do all things, humbled himself to grow in a human body, humbled himself to learn how to walk because he was God and man, so he learned how to walk, but yet he was God. And he did all of that, darling, because he loved us. It wasn't, I'm gonna, you know, you human beings, I have to force myself to save you. He was like, I've got to go down there.

Well, actually, there's even as you say that, you know, that's where a lot of the the Pharisees and a lot of the Jews in those times, they thought he was coming as like they thought when the Messiah was gonna come back, it was gonna he was gonna come back as like a um a king, didn't they? A military leader. A military leader. They thought he was gonna take over, you know, kick the Romans out of that time, get Israel back, you know, and become a mighty, in a sense, military leader. But yet we see from Jesus, he came from the lowest of the lowest. It says he was born in a stable. Yeah, you know what I mean? And people miss this, as you said, going back to even Christmas and Easter. It's become a commercialised thing, you know what I mean? That it's about presents and Christmas trees, and in a sense, you know, that's a whole nother topic, but it's it's become very commercialised. But yet they we can sometimes miss that Christmas is about you know, about Jesus at the end of the day. And Easter is about Jesus, you know, it's a time to remember who he is, what he's done for us. And so even when we think about Jesus, when he came, he was born in a stable, a dirty stable that's a humble servant of animals, you know, that was probably had poo in there as well and stunk. But yeah, he came back and was grew, and that is how he grew. Yeah, he didn't come back in his glory, he didn't come back with a raging army. That's not denying he is gonna come back one day, and my goodness, it's not gonna be the the way that he came the first time. No, he's gonna come back and yeah, I think every knee will bow and every tongue will confess.

How to live this truth practically

But you know, I mean it's it's incredible because I think okay, darling, we've got a few more minutes before we finish this first episode. How can how can we live these things out in our daily lives? For example, Jesus is God. How can me and you live that out in our daily lives? You know, bringing it practically to people. How can I how me knowing that Jesus is God help me to live out my faith in him?

Well, I think the the main the main part where we start it, the s where where we have to start with is we have to believe in our hearts that Jesus is the Son of God, that he came to this earth. We and you know, this is where we have to make the decision for ourselves of who is this Jesus? Is he just a random person or is he the son of God? And so we have to believe that he's the son of God, and then we have to recognize that he came to this earth as an inn innocent sacrifice, that he never sinned, he never did anything wrong, but yet he died on that cross for humanity. He took my place and everybody's sins upon himself, and he took our punishment upon himself. He was buried and he rose again after three days and he's alive today, and he sat at the right hand of the Father. You see, and when we put our when we come to him and we repent of our sins, which means we say, Jesus, I want to follow you. I I choose to follow you and live for you, and we turn from our sins and we say, Jesus, I want to follow you. Will you help me to turn from my sins and help me to live for you? We can receive forgiveness for our sins and we can receive salvation, yeah, and we can know that we have eternal life in Him. But also, while we're on this earth, we can know that we are we can have a relationship with Him.

What repentance and following Jesus looks like

I I want to push a bit more with when you said we can turn and follow Him. Like when, for example, practically though, because I think that's that's where people stumble. They they they they they receive the good news of Jesus. Jesus loves me, He died for me, He wants to forgive my sins, but they're practical, they're now follow. A lot of people just don't know how to do that. Either they don't know how to do that, they don't want to because it requires giving up a few things. But how you know, I I was just thinking practically, how can you walk with God in repentance as a new believer?

That's a great question, and actually, I'm just I'm reminded of the sheep again, where it says, you know, the simplicity, excuse me, where the simplicity of walking and follow you know, have the sheep follow God. And in a sense, sheep, if they try and do their own things, well they're gonna get lost, aren't they? They will just stumble off and they could fall off a cliff, or they could get eaten by an a wild animal, you know, or they could hurt themselves, or they could be find that they've suddenly lost all their other sheep, you know. Do you get what I mean? And so their one job as a sheep, in a sense, is just to follow the shepherd. And that's the exact same force, you know what I mean? We are made to just simply follow him by having a relationship. You know, relationships are two-way things. The more that someone hangs out and the more you spend time together, the more that you hopefully will grow as friends, and you would be you know, as you grow in that friendship, yeah, you you it's easier to trust that person, isn't it? It's easier to follow that person, and that's what it means basically to follow Jesus is to have a relationship with him, not just know about him or read about him or go to church or pray the prayer, but then we keep living life the way that we want to, you know what I mean? Because that's not following. Yeah, you know what I mean. If you said follow to me and I start walking in the opposite direction, doing what I'm well, I'm not following you, you know what I mean? Or if you have a little child and he you say, Right, stay close to your dad, you know what I mean? While we walk down the side of the road, stay close to me, don't wander off or don't run off, but stay close to me. But how often do we know that kids will sometimes just get distracted by things or they will run off? I remember once when I was a kid, I knew there was a one of my neighbours was watching me and my sister, I think when my mum and dad were away, and they were taking she was taking us to school, or we were coming back. I can't remember exactly, but I remember I ran into the middle of the road randomly. I don't know if I dropped a ball or something, but I I ran. And I remember Julie, the woman that was looking after us, nearly had a heart attack because obviously there was a car coming, yeah. And you know, that's the that's the thing in a sense. We've got to stay close, we've got to keep our eyes on Jesus, we've got to grow in our relationship, spend time with him daily, and I uh hopefully that makes sense.

Discovering who you are in Christ

um I think and I know so I remember when I first was born again, I think going to a church that can teach you the foundations of who you are in Christ was so important because that challenges you to because that when you receive things like you're a new creation, the old has passed, the new has begun. Number one, that's beautiful. Number two is that okay, I'm a new creation, so I need to discover who this new creation is. I want to provoke people to want to know who they are in Christ now that they've received him. So much of maybe preaching the gospel is all about uh what God can what God can do for you. It's all about you know, kind of you just getting relief, and that's great because God wants to help us with our depression, he wants to help us with our pain, he doesn't want us to be in pain, that's why he came to die for us, so we might know what real joy is and life is, but then actually there's this all other life that many Christians don't tap into or even walk into because they are not the they don't want to put the work in to get to know who they are in Christ, and by the way, who you are in Christ is the real you, yeah, not the old you that died. I'm not saying that you become numb and your personality goes away, but I didn't discover myself until I found Jesus.

Yeah, no, and actually that's uh an amazing point. That actually the the fact of it is is when we come to Jesus, a transformation and we truly are following Jesus, a transformation should take place in our life. It says we are born again, you know, because before Christ, our s our spirit is dead. It says we're spiritually dead, spiritually separated from God, yeah. We're spiritually separated from God, but when we have when we put our faith and our trust in Jesus, we get born again. It says no man can come to the Father, except if he is born again, and you get to start over.

What a beautiful gift.

It's not that we you lose your personality, or you or if you think I come to Jesus, I'm not gonna have joy anymore. It's just about religion or following rules or going. Actually, if you know if you follow Jesus, you see that he couldn't stand religion, he couldn't stand Pharisees and Sadducees. Could he? He couldn't stand it. He was so angry against him. You see how he knocked the tables over and said, You're you know, desecrating my father's house. Yeah, and so we know that it's not about religion, but actually, when we follow God and you see it's about a personal relationship, and that's saying that you know you can there's such a peace that can come to God. We get a new identity, we we get to walk in the victory. As you say, it's not just about praying that prayer, it's about what does that look like in our life? We get to share the victory of Jesus, and I just want to make people a bit hungry.

The spiritual life available in Christ

I've realized like I don't want to, we don't, Christians, let's not hold back anymore in the beauty that we have found in Jesus. Like when I became, and I know that not everyone's experience is the same, but I know that um God wants to touch you in however way he wants to touch you. And I just remembered, honey, I the encounters I had with the Lord, the the glory of God, the hunger for his word. Um, but I realized, you know, I was I was I was getting fed, I was listening to sermons online on YouTube, I was going to church, I was going to foundation school, I was um I was part of a cell group. So oh I remember seeing people my age, I was about 20, and thinking, these young people love God? Like, where have I been? It made me realize I was I was actually on the outside. As in like, and finally came into a family, I finally came into the life of Christ. And guys, Jesus doesn't just want to be your savior, he isn't just you know your shepherd, he wants to bring you into the spiritual life of Christ where he shows you, you know, the realm of where we belong. We we don't just live in the supernatural world, we belong to um sorry, we don't just believe live in a natural world, we have a spiritual life, you know, and we get to operate from there, we get to love God and know who he is, and it's holy and it's beautiful, you know.

Well, even as you were talking, then you know, actually, he wants a personal relationship with us, don't he? That's I think that's the word you were looking for. I felt you were looking. He wants a personal relationship, not just to follow him, not just to follow his ways, even, not just to even go to church on a Sunday, but to know him, to experience his presence. He's a God who loves to experience, you know, me and my wife, and I know there's many Christians out there, we're made to experience his presence. We're made to experience his peace, we're made to know his voice. He loves when we talk about Jesus, he's not a God who's dead, but he rose from the dead, he's alive today, and he loves to speak to us, he loves to, he wants his kids to encounter God, you know what I mean? He loves to pour his presence and his love upon people, and you know, there's different ways, and obviously that's some other thing. There's different ways that he speaks to us through his words when we when we worship him, when we listen just are quietly meditating on his word or listening to his voice or dreams or vision. Anyway, there's many different ways.

Yeah, but he's a God who loves to experience his children, he does, and and so we just wanted to encourage you. If you're a Christian, there's more. Oh you know, there's more. So much. Um, everything we've shared, that what I love about our ministry that God has given us, it's a two-edged sword. I can say Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life to a non-believer, and that's the gospel. But I can also say that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life to a believer, and it still blesses them. And I love that. That's and actually, guys, that's the ministry that God has given us. We are not just called to share the gospel to people that don't know Jesus. We want to minister to the church to remind them of the gospel, number one, but also that hey, more than serving, more than um going to church, have fun with God, get to know him. There's a spiritual life that God has for us. We are we Christians are not supposed to live a mundane, boring, same life. The spirit of God is fun, yeah, and he's exciting, and he's reality, and he's alive, and there are things he wants to tell you, there are things he wants to reveal to you, there are words that he's got for you, but we've got to put the time in and we've got to know him, honey. So I I can keep going, but I think we're going to leave part one here, yeah, and we're going to go back to part two. So, yeah.

Final encouragement to go deeper

last part I want to just leave you with just before we finish is if you are a Christian, I want to just say this even if you've been walking with the Lord for 50 years or 40 years or however long, there's so much more of that. There's so much more. Press into him. You know, God responds to hunger. And so I want to encourage you. Maybe you've if you've listened in, maybe you've backslidden as well. Yeah. And you've, you know, once you were a Christian, maybe you've both been brought up in a Christian family, but you've fallen away. And I want to just say, you know, today's a new day. Get right with God, pick up your Bible and say, you know, press, just spend some time with Him and just say, you know, start growing it. And I promise you, Jesus will meet you in that place. But it's, you know, as we as we put that time aside to spend time with Him, to seek Him, He will draw near to us and meet us in that place. And so I want to encourage you, just keep going deeper and deeper in Jesus.
