Hey Family, welcome back to another Episode of Rise Podcast. I am so glad you are here. This
space- your space- is where faith meets clarity, and where God breathes purpose back into dry bones
Tonight, we are talking about something that sits at the core of every believer’s journey…
Purpose, Calling, and Assignment
Not as buzzwords or cliches, but through a biblical lens- so we can walk with confidence in what God
designed us to carry
Let’s go…
Purpose: we talked about this in the last episode as we talked about Identity. So, we aren’t going to
dig too deep, I would invite you to listen to Episode 2 “you are who God says you are”
But we do have to talk about it a little to understand that it’s linked to but not the same as our calling
or our assignment.
Purpose is your Identity, It’s the Why behind our existence. This is why it is so important to be able to
answer the question “Who am I?”
Before you took a breath, God spoke purpose over you. Purpose is Knowing God and Making Him
known
Genesis tells us:
“Let us make man in our image…”
Your purpose reflects God. Others should be able to see Jesus through you. It is to walk with Him, To
live as His workmanship- His design, His creation.
Ephesians 2: 10 reminds us that we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works…
Your purpose is not a job, Its not mine either. It’s not a role, a title… It is the unchanging, God-given
identity of Who you are. Nobody can take it
No season can erase it
No mistake can void it!!
Your Purpose, Your Identity has always been and will always be the same, not to be confused with
personality, which is distinct, because not one of us is the same.
Matthew 7:24
Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid
rock.
(7 Attributes of following Jesus)
What gifts did God give you? What do you bring to the table?
This is why knowing who you are is important. Human nature is to go with the flow because its easy.
This world always leaves Jesus out of the equation. But when you keep Jesus in your equation you

begin to identify what your gifts truly are instead of trying to adopt someone else’s gifts and making a
fool of yourself.
Calling: Calling is the how behind our existence. This is the Lane God pulls you Toward (careful not
to change lanes without permission. You will crash and it could be fatal.) Calling expresses God’s
purpose through your design. (Teaching, Building, Creating, Serving, Leading)
It’s the direction God draws you in. I put emphasis on GOD, because everyone faces a time where
they can’t figure out if they are truly following God’s voice or their own desires. There are so many
voices in this world that make it their business to decide what’s fun, what’s right or what’s trending
that its easy to be led a stray because human nature is to consider things successful when we have
crown approval.
I’ve learned that with or without crown approval When its God calling you the fruits will show. When
you only seek crown approval, whether its intentional or not you will crash and burn, because you are
doing things of your own accord and not according to God’s will.
It is the spiritual “lean” of your life- the area you are wired for, burdened for, stirred for.
In Scripture, calling begins with this:
“You were called out of darkness into his marvelous light.” -1Peter 2:9 Once we are out of darkness
and we can mute all the voices, including our own (You see if we are talking, we can’t hear God
talking.) so that we hear god’s voice then we can truly step into our calling.
But it doesn’t stop there. God set each of us apart for something specific.
Ephesians 4:11-12
So, Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers,  12  to
equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up
Romans 12:6-8
We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then
prophesy in accordance with your [a]  faith;  7  if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach;  8  if it is
to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, [b]  do it
diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully
Your calling is that thing that won’t leave you alone. That area where your passion, your gift and
God’s voice all meet. It doesn’t change with every season, but it does grow deeper as you Mature in
your relationship with God.
Assignment: what god is asking you to do Right now, In this Season
Eccl. 3: 1
There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens

Everyone can participate in all aspects of ministry, but not all things are meant to occupy your time.
Assignments are specific and temporary tasks that God places in your hands.
They shift.
They change.
And there is always a specific time for it to begin and end.
David’s first assignment was to shepherd sheep.
His second assignment was to worship God to provoke Peace for King Saul
Eventually his assignments were to Lead God’s people as their King.
For those who need a female example…
Deborah Led a military battle
Esther presented herself before the King
Mary carried our Promise for redemption
Assignments look like:
Starting a ministry
Raising children
Serving in a specific place
Or even being still for a moment (a moment to God is not the same as our moment…)
1Corinthians 9:19-23
Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as
possible.  20  To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like
one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law.  21  To
those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law
but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law.  22  To the weak I became weak, to
win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save
some.  23  I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.
Prat without ceasing.
Study scripture don’t just read it.
