We also dive into the NBA Finals and discuss the new champions, while across the ice, the Stanley Cup has been decided and we'll examine what it means for hockey's biggest prize.

With Wimbledon just around the corner, we look at the leading contenders on the grass courts, and as the Tour de France approaches, we identify the riders most likely to wear yellow in Paris.

Plus, we track down the Clickarus, uncover a Joker causing plenty of discussion, and, of course, Martin returns with another one of his trademark rants.

SPEAKER_02

Good evening, sportsbiz family, and welcome to episode number 42 with more frivolity, fun and pheromones. With Mr. Martin Winnell, aka The Dog. Here I am, and myself, John Briggs, or Briggsy, as some of you prefer to call me. This is the only podcast you will ever need in your life because we eat all the open cracks in all the sports, all the time, because sport is life and life is sport. What's happening, Martin? Well, John, I think we know in the world of sport, not Australian sport, but the world. Yeah. I think we know what's going on. I think we do. Sing. The soccer. Something that's happening in the. Yes, it's um and Canada and Mexico. Oh, yeah, you forget about that, don't you? Sort of. Yeah. It's uh it's a bit like Great Britain, isn't it? Go on. They've taken it to three sovereign states. Oh bollocks. And uh and bollock them together into one big nation. Yeah. When it's required. Soccer World Cup. It's flying everywhere. It's a good luck, it's going to berserk. We've got the Tour de France following it. Yep. That'll be up soon. Wimbledon's coming up. Certainly. Good lord, the F1's still going.

SPEAKER_01

Uh but I honestly finished. I was gonna say, I actually think before the World Cup of Soccer, there's two things we have to touch on. Go on. In results. Yep. The Stanley Cup has been decided. Uh-huh. The hockey's been done. Yep.

SPEAKER_02

And the NBA has been done. It has. Holy moly. No, it's very sad. How did you go, John? We'll talk about that later. Because before we start, Martin, isn't it madness that we live in a world where intelligent people are all told to stay silent so stupid people aren't offended? Apparently sorry. You've got a joke. A man walked into a pub one day. You think he would have seen it? Absolutely, yes. Sorry. He had a perfect body, broad shoulders, a waist tapering, perfect abs, biceps, and pecks. However, he had a really small skull. Tiny in fact. The bartender, a pretty young lady, noticing the man, compliments him on his physique, but being polite enough not to say anything about the tiny skull. Right. Yes. She asked him how he achieved such a body. He explained, Well, I was walking on the beach one day and found a bottle with a cork on the end. I popped the cork and a genie popped out and said, I grant you three wishes, master. And what were they? asked the bartender. He said, Well, I asked for a perfect physique. Right. Tick. And she went, Yeah, okay, cool. Well, you've obviously got one. Yep. It's amazing. Beautiful. She goes, What else did you ask for? He goes, Well, I asked for a nine-inch manhood. And she goes, Well, how'd you go? Big smile on the face. He goes, Yeah, I got that. Bigger smile on her face, but this is. And then she goes, What was the third wish? He goes, Well, sighing. I only asked for a little head.

SPEAKER_01

It's not exactly where I thought that was going. But it ended up in the same place. Indeed. So that's beautiful.

SPEAKER_02

That is beautiful, dog. No, mate. I don't know where you get these from, but more importantly, it's not a question. I do not want to know. Well, this is true. I think we can. That's okay. But what we do have to do, and I think some quick bites. You got some quick bites. Well, I'm sure you have, but well, we've kind of gone through them all. Well, Ollie Robinson is out of the test match.

unknown

I know.

SPEAKER_02

I know. But what happened to Ollie? It does. Well, he's got a I think it's a hamstring problem, but anyway. But but I actually wrote earlier the week, hopefully, for Sonny Baker, he'll be in. He is in. He's the prospect, which I've been talking about for ages. Sonny Baker, Emilio Gay. Yeah, it's looking good, eh? You've got people that have never played before, forced into your team through drunkenness. Absolutely. Yes. The weird one here, Kane Williamson. What a great batsman, by the way. Well, what a new series. This is pull the pin. What's going on there? I heard this and I went, what are you doing, mate? I know. Well, let's let's do a cheers to Kane Williams. That is it. I but I think so. Who losing the series. I mean, he's had to even it out. His mate, his mate from New Zealand. Cheers, my good man. Ben Stokes. Cheers, mate. Yes, he. Well, I'm glad you said that. Saved me from having a highlight the fact that Brandon McCollum. And he's gone, well, hang on a second. Let's make this even. I'm going to retire. I'm going to Well, based on his last couple of performances, I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing. I don't think he's made it even. He's still a very good play, but top four with the ball.

SPEAKER_01

Why would you go over there to only play one test and then pull the pin?

SPEAKER_02

Really dumb. Unless there is an injury or something there that we just don't know about. And maybe if he retires, there's actually no point even talking about it. Yeah, he is a quiet sort of guy. He didn't want any big fuss and palaver about it all. Yeah, nah, yeah. Formula One. It's a shame we haven't got more time to finish on this because to spend on this because for the first time in about 60 years, it is 60 years, Britain, Martin, actually it is England, for your information. Yes. Managed a one, two, three on the podium in Barcelona, Barcelona. Hamilton wins. Russell second. And Norris third. Norris third. It was a it was uh it yeah, there you go. And then poor old Oscar Puff Pastry only managed fifth. Yes. And how did Kimmy go? Uh I'm not sure. The runaway leader, Kimmy Antonelli. He didn't get anything. Versan was fourth. He just kind of rolled around and fell out. Yeah, yep, yep, yep. Yeah, we let him finish. We had a bit of tennis at Queens. Yes. Emma Radicanu reached a final. Oh, good on her. She's playing again. Yeah, she's actually had a couple of games. Well, that's special. But she lost, didn't she? Yeah, she lost in the final. Yeah. But mate, I thought that we would get the hook in early with a bit of clicker, so I had trouble finding it. Yeah. Yeah, well, you do. The miracle at Madison. And this does encompass what we're talking about earlier. Madison. Square Garden. Right, okay. Well, a lot of things happen at Madison Square Garden. Well, something happened the other day. The NBA finals between the Knicks and the Spurs. Euphorious but the Euphoria star, Sidney Sweeney, and music mogul, Scooter Braun, whoever the hell he is, were in the. Well, well, we all know Scooter Braun. Well, what does he do on his own? Well, he's a mogul producer, the one that bought all of Taylor Swift's music. Well, and then she got her nose out of joint and re-released it all so that he couldn't own it. Ah, well, that's he bought it all. This next bit then makes total sense. Ah, there you go. Because Sydney and Scooter were ejected from their seats to accommodate Taylor Swift. Yeah! And then the commentator said she's not a Knicks fan because she was pretending to go for the Knicks. Get her out of here! Who was that? I don't know who the commentator was.

SPEAKER_01

No, no, was he referring to Taylor Swift? Oh, to Taylor Swift. Yes, that's been a bit odd that she's become a Knicks fan.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. Where's she from? It's somewhere down south. It is, yeah, yeah, because she started off a country western scene. Yes. Yeah, so yeah. So but I mean, I guess she lives in you know, but I I don't know, mate. Yeah, anyway. But uh 53 years in the making. Yes. Holy crap. New York. Now, what happened to your big fella? Your San Antonio Spurs Wendan. The John Special. He fell apart. Didn't he? He did. And in the last quarter of that last match, they missed nearly every bloody shot. I couldn't believe. I was watching it live. I could not believe it. I'm thinking, no, this isn't as bad as the massive collapse from the week before where they threw a massive enormously. But they were ahead by what nine points of the quarter to go. And uh yeah, up by 20 at one point. Yeah, yeah. Now the game before they were up by 29. I know. It's not that bad. It's weird. They look like they weren't up. And that horrible little runt, Brunson. I'll kill him. Oh he's a Rottweiler. You'll kill him. Very, very good. There's some things about this guy. He's only six foot. Yeah, I know. He was considered no good. Yes. He was considered nowhere near good enough to build a team around.

SPEAKER_01

You are you aware of his pay cut?

SPEAKER_02

No. That he took two years ago? No, okay. Well, if if if supposed to be believed, somewhere in total up near a hundred mil. Wow. So that the money was there to build a championship team. Two years later, they've got it. Yeah. He was everywhere. He was much. He was unbelievable. Don't remember the last time someone like that who is six foot and his strong part of his game is driving to the bucket in the key. I know. Against a seven foot-four dude. Yeah. 45 points. Yeah. He knocked down in game five. That is incredible. He's involved with everything. That's the thing. That's Jordan-esque. Yeah. Game on the line. Yeah, yeah. Come back to take the title. You could see it in his eyes. 45 points. You could see it in his eyes. And you but someone that's super talented like Wembon. Webben Yabi. All the talent in the world. Yep. And yet he looked like he was going to cave in. Yeah. He actually did. You could see it in his face. Now, here's a little question for you. Yeah. If this guy's come out and played and got the MVP for the series, for the finals, knocked down 45 points. Yeah. When Jordan came back from baseball, what number did he wear for Chicago? Tell me, Martin. 45. There you go. There's some synergy in that. 45. Good lord. Some great synergy in that. 45. So we're going to roll on to the big main event, Martin. The big main event. I don't want to yet. Oh, go on, then don't then. I've got one little extra. Okay. What do you got? I've got one little extra, mate. And we are talking. What do you know about Carolina? Oh, look. She went well when I met her. She was a decent sort. Not North, not North Carolina. Carolina. What I can tell you about Carolina is they are currently drunk and holding up the Stanley Cup. Shaggy sung a song about her. I believe he did. Oh. Carolina. Oh, mate, they've done over Las Vegas. The Vegas Knights. Yeah. Um smacked them. Right. Smacked them. So um uh six games. They've won 4-2 to take the Stanley Cup. Games very close. 5-4. 3-4, 4-5, 5-3. Yeah. But then in the final game, the Hurricanes ran over him, three zipped. Okay. So the Golden Knights, mate, they are Gonsky. Stanley Cup in Carolina. How about that? Cheers to them. Well, why not? What a phenomenal effort. Cha-ching. Well, Cha-Ching. I'm gonna move on to the World Cup. That now brings us to the World Cup. So, what is happening? I'll do a real quick rundown here. Brazil only managed to draw with Morocco. Uh, Qatar, Qatar drew with Switzerland in their very first ever World Cup point. Scotland squeaked past Haiti for their first World Cup win in 36 years. Germany have a Curaceo, so a niddle. Austria B Dougie, we talked about in the previous one.

SPEAKER_01

Hey, let's not let's not jump all over Curaçao.

SPEAKER_02

No, I know. Let's go. Smallest nation. You've got a soft spot for them, haven't you? I do. I do. Smallest nation ever to play in the World Cup finals. Yeah. They poked the bear. They just made a mistake in the 21, 21st minute of the match. Uh-uh. They poked a German bear. Yeah. And the German bear woke up. Yeah. And then they dropped six straight goals. Yep. Ouch. The Netherlands only drew to all against Japan, which is an interesting match. Japan are pretty good. Um I found that a really good game. Sweden played brilliantly. They do have a very good coach. Yes. Mr. Potter. What did Sweden achieve? They won 5-1 against Tunisia. And what did they achieve? Tell me, Martin, what did they achieve? The first, we've done it in the AFL. We've done it in the NRL. And now it's happened in the World Cup. Right. Tunisia promptly sacked their coach. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Oh my god. He's only been there since January.

SPEAKER_02

I know, that's stupid.

SPEAKER_01

And they've given in the World Cup. And gone nut nap button.

SPEAKER_02

But here we go. Here's one. New Zealand. Yeah. Continue their unbeaten run in the World Cup. Well. If you give the 20-year gap. That's right. Being there. No, they went unbeaten in the last one four years ago. Yeah, yeah. They did really well. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So they drew two all with Iran in the most politically charged match there. Well, those New Zealanders, they've got a lot of politics. Or Moose. Indeed. Just going back to not with a draw, they did. Going back to Tunisia, yes. They basically opened them and closed the cards. They're closed, yeah. Yeah. Tunisia have a player called Hannibal. And I I I you know, I heard the commentator saying he was dining out on the Swedes but only had crumbs. Oh, you did not. Awesome. You like that. So did we chat? Did you touch on Ivory Coast? No. Go for it, Martin. Ivory Coast has beaten Ecuador. Yes. 1-0. Yeah, my mate Jorge would not be happy with that. I feel that's a bit of a boil over. Yeah, probably. I feel it is. I don't know for sure. Yeah. But I feel that's not right. Well, Ivory and Coast have had some good individual players sometimes. Yes. Yeah, but never a team. Ecuador, again, South American team. Up and knows with them. That's right, exactly. Yep. But here's another massive Australia. Yeah, well, they played brilliantly. They really did. Did over the Turks. Good on them. Again. I know.

SPEAKER_00

That is a World Cup win. A hundred and ten years in the making. Dear me. Oh my gosh. Oh dear. Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Some of the public go over there to visit. Yes, I believe so. Yes, I believe so. So anyway, look out of the 48 teams, 12 groups, top two automatically go through from each group, and then the the next best out the top eight of the third places. Oh, Australia's through. Well, you reckon. I reckon, I reckon mathematically, I think we're good. You could be right. You could be right. However, another massive shock, a country I've actually never heard of before. Cape Verdun. Verdun, Verde. Same thing. Yes. It's off the Verde. Off the western coast of Africa. Yes, it is. Up near Ram. I think it's pronounced Verde. Oh, it could be. Yeah. It's up off Senegal. Yeah. I believe. Yeah. Yeah. So they drew up drew nil-nil with Spain. Tiny to a tiny West African country with a population of 500,000. It's absolutely astonishing. That is pull off a miracle. That is awesome, isn't it? Yeah. So what are Spain doing? One of. I think they could be the bookies' favourites. I think France are probably eight people's favourites. Jeep. And then you're looking at uh maybe England. Who knows? But I think England are third favourites. But they've got their match to come yet, and I'm not liking it. Oh, well, where what are you guys got to do? You haven't even played one game yet. Tomorrow night. Croatia. It's going to be a hard match. Croatia reached a final eight years ago. You know, they're a bloody good team. I can't believe it. Them first up. First up. That's a bit harsh. Oh, that's rough, isn't it? It is. It is. I mean, it's yeah, it's not bad because it's England. Get a piss up. Hang on. Oh, yes, it is England.

SPEAKER_01

It is England because we've got the joy of Scotland.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. But anyway. Well, aren't the Scots happy over there? Can can I roll you into your rant? You you can, John. Hydration break, Martin. I've got some issues. With the hydration break? Yes. What is a hydration break? Fuck those. Something the Americans. No, I don't think it's got anything to do with your nose whatsoever. So this uh this soccer, World Cup, we're suddenly playing quarters. Yeah, no. We're not playing halves. So you might as well just play AFL. Yeah. But it's called at the ref's discretion as well. Yeah, no, not not really. Not really. It's I think they're given a window where it has to be done. Yeah. Um, and it they've called a hydration break. And I mean the first game they played in extreme heat in Mexico. It was 23 degrees. Yeah, right. So funnily enough, they actually had the first hydration break at the 24th minute mark. Right. So they the even the minute mark was higher than the freaking temperature. Yeah. So hydration break my ass. I agree.

SPEAKER_01

What is it?

SPEAKER_02

It's three minutes for adverts. Of adverts. And this is the reason why Joe Rogan once said this on his podcast. The reason why soccer will never be popular in America is because the game never stops and therefore you can't put adverts in. He's had an effect now, isn't he? So how no, that's what he said. That's you know that's what it is. And so if FIFA want to bring America in and make money, America said we want sport breaks. A very American thing. Even in my notes. It is ridiculous. It's a three minute. It doesn't take three minutes to have a freaking drink. Yeah. Um, and the worst part is it's literally like a timeout. I know.

SPEAKER_01

So the coaches go down and they change game plans on iPads.

SPEAKER_02

Which is wrong. I'm sure they're probably laying a spot bet as well whilst they're down there. Soft as well, isn't it? I mean, we're gonna. And some of these things are happening with a roof on in an air conditioned stadium. Yes, because they're not a drinks break. Yeah. They're an advert break. We all know what they are. I know. Screw you, America. Yeah. This is where you bugger things up. This is why no one's that impressed. I agree. Well, sorry, crap. And if we can chime in another one, just because that didn't annoy me enough. Yeah. But now you've got your V A R being used. Yes, yes. And it got used and it gave an offside, which was clearly offside. Yeah. And after VAR review, they said no, the goal stands. Yeah. Just to make it a more, I think that might have been the Sweden match. Right. Actually. Okay. One all? Yeah. Yeah, I think it was the Sweden match. Oh no, they were 5-1.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, five-uh, Switzerland.

SPEAKER_02

Sorry, Switzerland match. Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. And uh so they allowed the goal to stand. Now, according to your eyes, it's completely offside.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Now, the way VRA works is really simple. Yeah. They put a line on the ground on the TV and they go, are you over that line or not? Uh-huh. But for the World Cup, they've decided not to make that decision. Isn't that weird? Why would they do that? I've never seen VAR for offside that does not put a line on the TV coverage until this tournament. Yeah, yeah. I can't help but feel I'm going to wrap this up with a drinks break. Yeah. This is an American thing. Yeah, yeah. Which is kind of coincidental because their bloody American football's played with lines all over the freaking ground. Every yard there's another bloody line. Yes, exactly. But that really did my head in. Yeah. The fact that they weren't prepared to put that up there. I know. And it was clearly offsite. Yeah, yeah, yeah. However, Martin, we've got a few matches underway. The standout teams so far would have well, you've got to go Germany. I mean, there's seven one. Seven, yeah. I mean, very, very clinical. And they are clinical, aren't they? But England do have a German coach, so therefore it might help us. You think they're going to be a clinical England? It could be. Not with the team they picked. Oh my god. No, no, no. Team's fine because there's nothing wrong with the team, but they're not a high possession clinical team. They're like Australia. They're a rebound, catch you out snapping, get over the top of you, and score goals on your team. Tuchel is picked on form, not Tuchel. Tuchel's not. Sounds like something you put on your pancakes in the world. Isn't it? Yeah. They're not talent. He's dropped a couple of players, we mentioned this before, who are possibly more talented, but they're in they're not in form. All they're coming out from injuries. Are they in the squad or are they back in English? Left at home. Is Rashford in the squad? Yeah. Oh. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, what's he doing? Well, he won't be start-up. He won't be. Ah, yeah, he'll be on the bench. Ah, he's pulling a message. So uh well, yeah. Yep. Why not? Impact player. For six minutes. Look, look, we English, oh my god, please let us win it. I mean, on an Angle Australia winning. I'm not England. It'll be a biggest nightmare. It really would. For for all Australian listeners, there is nothing quite as enjoyable.

SPEAKER_01

Well, the most enjoyable is winning. But there's the next best thing is to hear an Englishman already stressing about his team before they've even taken the pitch.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, well, Germany one, bloody Scotland one, Australia one. Well, what a shame you're not Great Britain. If you had the Scottish team playing for England, you'd be okay. Anyway, I've got to get the foot out of here. Still on football. Still on football. Now, this is a weird one. You know Tim Payne. I'm aware of Tim Payne. Yeah. Not the cricketer. Tim Payne. No, okay, I was thinking pictures. Yeah, no. So we're not talking about is it still pictures? Don't be hard on yourself. Well, I wasn't hard on him. Tim Payne, the New Zealand defender and the New Zealand Cup defender. He was the least known footballer in the world. Was he really? Yes. Well, but just telling him that would make him a more well-known footballer. Well, what happened was that Argentinian DJ, uh, sorry, Argentinian journalist called Valan Scarsini. So how do you get journalist and DJ mixed up? No, well, yeah, no, there's an Argentinian DJ who had Payne's face tattooed on his leg. Oh, he's become because he has become overnight, in one night, literally overnight, in one night, from I think it was 5,000 to 5 million followers on Instagram. And it's true. He's now super famous. What did he do? Is it did he do something during the game? No. The the journalist wanted to find out who was the least known player in the World Cup. Right. And then sort of do a story on him. Okay. So he did, and he's got 5,000 to 5 million, and his whole life is now completely changed. He's now a superstar. Oh no. What was his name? Uh yeah, Tim Payne. Cheers to Tim Payne. I mean, even though Kane Williamson's retired, you got Tim Payne. Well, he cares about Kane. That's right, yeah. Now, now Payne. What we need to do, I think we need to reach out to Tim Payne and just say, mate, we're in Australia. Yep. We've got your namesake. Uh-huh. Who used to captain our cricket team? Yeah. Now you may be aware, as a New Zealander, there was an untimely end to Mr. Tim Payne's cricketing international cricketing career. And perhaps we need to remind the new superstar Tim Payne to keep stuff in.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. To keep stuff hidden.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And to not photograph it and share it with bloody people.

SPEAKER_02

Exactly right. I couldn't agree with you.

SPEAKER_01

So I think we need to do our bit.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. I do too. And our bit is our next bit, Martin. And you've got something for me. I've got something for you. You have. Well, I can see it written down. I I feel there was a little bit of shithhousery in uh in the world of soccer. Because we're gonna go with this consistency with the World Cup. Yeah. But John, were you aware that you could have good shithousery? Well, actually, I wasn't Martin. Well, I think you do it. With your wizard. I think we can. Go on then. And I think right now the greatest shithusery going on in the world, in the world of sport, is the Tartan Army. Right. Landing in Boston, taking over every part of Boston, putting almost 7,000 of them at Fenway Park to watch a Red Sox game in the evening. Why not? And just actually, well, the one I liked the most was a lot of them are staying in Airbnbs. Right. And they're all on a street. So they got out at 6:30 in the morning and got the bagpipes going. Good on them and marched down the street. Well, good on them. And then they win 1 0. And then they bloody win 1 0.

SPEAKER_01

But they are everywhere. Yeah. The Scottish. They are in every pub, in every park. Bagpipes going, singing, carrying on.

SPEAKER_02

They can't take our freedom. Och Alan. Och Alanu.

SPEAKER_01

Loch Ness. Where is good Loch Nessie? Just pure shithy all over Boston.

SPEAKER_02

And here's a little one. Yes. They're on, I believe they are officially on day five. Yeah. And on social media, it has done the rounds. Two things. Yeah, gone. One, most of the Boston pubs have actually run out of beer. Right. And so they're having to get more in. You would drink them silly. Absolutely they would. So this is a problem. Yeah. But here's the bit I like.

SPEAKER_01

They did a serious morning news article, not just on the Tartan Army, but on why there are witches' hats appearing on the top of monuments.

SPEAKER_02

Oh. Around Boston. And why are they? Well, because the Scots are climbing up there and putting witches' hats on people's heads. I thought there was something historical going on. No, no, so there's just a bright orange witch's hat. Now in America, we know when you get a statue and you do something to it, there's an issue with this. It's a stick it to the man. Yeah, yeah. Stick it to authority. Maybe they were involved in things that we no longer consider good. Yeah. All of this stuff.

SPEAKER_01

So these this this morning crew, they looked into it. They did an article on it. Yes. They interviewed Scottish people and they talked about why they do this. And what they came up with at the end was it's actually not political, it's just funny. Of course. Exactly. I couldn't look at the money.

SPEAKER_02

Which is about as Scottish as anything you're gonna find. Yeah, it is. Why do you do it? Because it's a piss tape. That's why I used to nick for sale signs and take them out to our house. Anyway, I've got a new section. I used to get garden knockers and put them in scenes in the middle of each of section.

SPEAKER_01

There you are.

SPEAKER_02

How good is that? Don't sell them short. Anyway, we're gonna use section. I've got a new section. Sorry, I'm gonna round off. Scots, my shit housery of the week. Okay. But a good one. It is a good one. I continue your housery, good sport. This is a new island with giant killers in sport. Moments in sport which we've never considered the underdog to win. Absolute giant killer. And this is a boxing one. And I just don't see how this will ever happen again. Maybe it will, but you know, because it can't in some ways. So we've got uh John H. Stracy, English guy from London, versus Jose in Naples, who was as good a boxer as you'll ever, ever, ever hope to see, um, as good as Sugary Robinson, some people were saying, and he's the greatest of all time. So in December 1975, and this has got what got me into boxing. So there's a little bit of a personal thing in here. So Naples was a long time reigning world champion, nicknamed Mantequia, which meant smooth as butter. And John H. was the challenger from the East End of London, and he he he was given no hope at all. None. So the boxing nickname of this animal was smooth as butter. Martin, boxers can be very silky smooth. See, this is why I keep telling you boxing just allowed hard men to legitimize skipping. Mate, John H. Tracy would be listening to this. Well, listen away. And I've had much contact with the great man. And uh I'm sure we'd have something to say about that. Anyway, I'm sure he was a very good skipper. He was, they all are. So the fight took place in Mexico in front of 40,000 Mexican fans, two Mexican judges and a Mexican referee. So you imagine that. Nobody, no British fighter had gone over to Mexico and won in Mexico. Not only that, but British fighter winning in Mexico. Well, hang on a second. He found himself on his bum in the first round from a left hook. Right. He got up, returned the compliment in the fourth round. From that moment, he just took complete control and he was absolutely relentless. And John H was the first, like I said, British fighter ever to win in Mexico, and he stopped Napoleon's in the sixth round to become the world welterweight champion. What a champion! And when there was only one real championship, we didn't have the WC, W B A, W this, the W the O B O and the W. So the champion was the champion. Yeah. None of this unified. Well, no, because there was only one. Exactly. So there you go. Giant King. John H, you're a superstar. Now, is there any need in this current World Cup for another giant killing moment where England needs to go to Mexico and win a match? I don't know. Is England playing in Mexico at all? No, actually.

SPEAKER_01

I thought there might have been lovely synergy there.

SPEAKER_02

So let's hope so. You're stressing already. It's a Croatia game, aren't you? I am, I am. Yes, I don't like it. Suck it up, Sunny Jim. I don't like it at all. I've got a horrible feeling. 17th of June. It's tomorrow. Oh my god. Yes. What time? I don't know. It could be in the morning. It might be the next morning. I'm not sure. Is tomorrow. Hang on, is tomorrow our tomorrow? Or our next day tomorrow? I'm having kittens regardless. I'm not looking forward to this.

SPEAKER_00

Oh dear.

SPEAKER_02

Now we need to also, we need to uh mention some cricket. Yeah, yeah. There is also international cricket. I thought you'd like English! But we didn't lose again.

SPEAKER_00

You lost the series.

SPEAKER_01

We lost the series before the last plotting podcast.

SPEAKER_02

But we came back and won a game and won a game. Yeah, well done. So a couple of things important about that. Go on. No one wants to lose three zip. True. Um I haven't got much else. Oh, Cooper Conley. You got a hundred.

SPEAKER_01

149 off 134.

SPEAKER_02

Good effort. Great effort.

SPEAKER_01

Yep. Just abysmal. Just able to be able to be able to do that. What was abysmal about that? No, the whole bloody thing. Oh, I see. From the first ball of the first game. Oh my lord. Well, hard to take. Not convinced that Bangladeshi in short form cricket is still just the ridiculously bad team over there anymore.

SPEAKER_02

That's four series in a row. Yeah. So we like that from Bangladesh. So the other thing that we need to touch touch on, my favourite term, is women's cricket.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, okay. So women's cricket is back in the in the in the spotlight. Yes. So we have launched on Saturday, just gone, the T20 World Cup. There you go.

SPEAKER_02

So there are teams in this that I didn't even know played with women's cricket. Uh-huh. But uh very quick, very easy. Well, Scotland beat Ireland to start with. So that's like a Great Britain festival right there. England beat Sri Lanka. Sorry? Witches Hats. Witches Hats. Oh that that might be uh depending on how well Croatia play. Yeah. They might come out of that game going, well, that was like playing witches' hats. Those English just didn't move. Australia beat South Africa.

SPEAKER_01

Sorry, Frank. My apologies, mate, but that's okay. Netherlands went down to guess who? Yeah, go ahead. Bangalore Bloody Dash. Bangladesh can't stop winning cricket right now.

SPEAKER_02

They are the future. And the West Indies pipped New Zealand. Right. I don't know what the New Zealand team is called. I don't know. The white something. The white black caps. What are the men's team called? The white caps. No, the black caps. The black caps. Yes. So who are the all whites then? Oh, that's the soccer. Oh. They're in the World Cup right now.

SPEAKER_01

They drew with someone in Iran.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, you got the all black. The blue whites are all black. So we know what the mistake. Yeah, it was a misprint in the black. Yes, in the newspaper. Yeah. So they managed to create a whole load of names from a misprint originally. Yes. How bizarre. No, that's just how New Zealand. There was a song written about them. How bazaar. How bazaar.

SPEAKER_00

True. Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Very good. Okay, so we we've we've gone through there. Now I want to talk to you about. This has all gone a bit pear-shaped.

SPEAKER_02

Professional, Martin. Maintain your professionalism.

SPEAKER_01

Professionalism.

SPEAKER_02

Pull it back together. Okay, let's see where we go. I'm gonna look at this. This is this is something which I want you to tell me if you know anything about. Go on then. So curling or something. Well, that's not a wacky sport, is it? Well. Well, it's not. I think it is. Well, it's a bit odd. We can we can give it that. So we're going wacky. Okay. So this is a wrestling sport. You've just read this. I've done plenty of it.

SPEAKER_01

You've got to announce what it is. Oh, I don't know if I can. Okay, so this is an ancient, ancient sport. It is well, it's suggestive it's up to 2,400 years of history. Well, it would be, wouldn't it? In camel wrestling.

SPEAKER_02

Camel wrestling. Wow. How many? Camel wrestling. Now, ladies and gentlemen. Do they go toe-to-toe? No. No, because the because the male camel spoiled it. So there you go.

SPEAKER_01

The answer is no. However, two male camels. Let me get this out. Two male camels fight it out for a female camel on heat.

SPEAKER_02

Woo!

SPEAKER_01

Who is waiting? Well, I do know what on heat means, but by all means, you share with me what you're thinking. It's mate.

SPEAKER_02

John. They're gonna make more money out of it because they're gonna get babies and then they're gonna sell them. That's what they're gonna get.

SPEAKER_01

Mate, this is 2,400 years old. I don't even know if they had money that long.

SPEAKER_02

They would have had something. Well, yeah, would have had something, I suppose. The camels lean on each other and try to push the other one down until one of them runs away. I'm not sure how this is considered a sport. In January each year, there is an annual camel wrestling championship.

SPEAKER_01

Right. Held in Silakuk. Uh-huh. In now, can you pronounce that for me?

SPEAKER_02

Turkey. Yeah. Turkey. I call it Turkey. Yeah. So basically, they can't play soccer, but they can wrestle camels. Obviously.

SPEAKER_00

So until one of the people, you know, I hadn't even realized it was in Turkey.

SPEAKER_02

And then even so if I had, this would have been even funnier after beating them on the weekend.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, the event is a spectacle. Oh, hang on. No, hang on. I missed the part here. It's part of the Selcook Effie's Camel Wrestling Festival. Yeah. This is something, John, that is not just historical. Yeah. It goes on today. Huge crowds come to see the event between the two male camels. Right. The camels fight it out for the female, as I said. It is still ongoing. They also have camel racing. The competition is between Tulu wrestling camels.

SPEAKER_02

Have you ever heard of a breed of camels? I just thought there was dromedary. What's the other one? What's the other one? One of them's got one um, and the other one's got two and I can't remember. Oh. Have you ever been on one? Have you ever been on? No, I have not. They're weird to look at. Well, it's difficult when you get because their heads lie on the ground and their necks lie on the ground. Then you get up and it's like we're really and it's strange. But once you're up, it's just like sitting on a pony, really, you know. But right. Except with the biggest. And one inch in front of your lips. And Morocco. Right. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Right. Well, bloody soccer playing nations, aren't they? Over there. Yeah, yeah. Okay, so they're they're Tulu wrestling camels, bred especially for fighting.

SPEAKER_02

Bugger. I did not know there was fight breeding camels. No, no, nor me. So I'm gonna get some pictures of a Tulu wrestling camel. Why not? Because I don't think there's any videos for me to share. But uh we get arrested if you found one. Well, I might do. Maybe, maybe I would not be meeting Facebook's uh standards and ethics. Probably not. And have my get myself banned. Yes. Uh, ladies and gentlemen, that's camel wrestling. It is good lord. We've got about a minute or two. Yep. I have, it is we touched on this earlier, I'm afraid, but I'm gonna have to talk about choker or joker. Yeah, what has to be the Spurs in the fourth mat uh the third match? 29 match 20 29 points.

SPEAKER_01

Oh my lord. Let's see. Halfway through the third quarter.

SPEAKER_02

In the history of any sport. Oh, hang on. That would be the Americans saying. Probably. Or the Americans do like to say they're the biggest and best at everything, even being losers. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Cheers to the American losing culture. But until next week, it's good night from me. And it's good night from him. Good night. Good night.
