Good evening, Sportsbiz family, and welcome to episode number 47 with more frivolity, fun and pheromones with Mr. Martin Winnell, aka the Dog. Howdy, howdy, howdy! How are you going, mate? All very well, mate. And myself, John Briggs, or Briggsy, as some of you may prefer to call me. We are the only podcast you'll ever need in your life because we hit all the open cracks. In all sports, all the time, because sport is life and life is sport. What's happening? Martin. World Cup Soccer. World Cup Soccer. World Cup soccer. Indeed. There's a bit of a wacky sport coming up in this uh in this podcast. That uh come across a bit of Formula One. Yeah. So we're going there. We've got the uh the women's T20 World Cup. Yep. That is firing along. We'll cover off the overview of the upcoming Commonwealth games. Yep. Starting in 21 days. Yep. So it's only three weeks to go for there. We're gonna bounce off the helmets. We are. We've got a foot that we've got to get out of there. Indeed. As well. So uh mate. We'll probably hit a crack or two. There's something, John. There is something in the world of soccer that's bloody upset me. Okay, are we covering that later, though? Yes, yes, we can cover it later. Okay. All right. All right. So, John, where would you like to start, my good man? Well, I'll start where I usually start, Martin. Isn't it madness that we live in a world where intelligent people are constantly told to be quiet so we don't offend lots of stupid people. Apparently, that is right. What have you got for us, John? I've got a joke, Martin. Did you find something good? In a little while I did. But before that, I have a joke. Yes. So, seeing that we're talking about football. Right. A little boy at a football match. Mm-hmm. He lost his dad. So he goes up to a policeman and says, It's better than the game. Ha ha. He says, I've lost my dad. Oh, I know you've got an arsehole. Hang on. Nah, it's not working. Don't worry about it. He's lost his dad. He's lost his dad like the way we lost with the joke. And he goes, yeah, and and he asks the policeman, he says, the policeman says, What's he like? And the young lad says, Beer women and sports. I turned it on into it. But meanwhile, we do have a clickerus. So we found a good joke. We found the clickerus, Martin. And and have we found the spot? We did find the spot. What have you found? Can't quite put my finger on it. Right. Hold on. Yes. It's on the tip of my tongue. Right. Share it with me, John. A psychic. A psychic. Yes. Predicted that aliens would invade the Brazil-Scotland match. Oh. Yes, her name is Vobihana, a spiritualist with 23 million followers. Can you believe it? 23 million. Well, she must be accurate. Obviously. She had a vision. Right. Spaceship was going to hope. Oh, not just the aliens. No, no. Over the ground and suck up 20,000 people with it. And she was in tears on the video when talking about this guy. 20,000 people were going to get sucked up by the spaceship. Alright. You know, and like a kiwi then, didn't I? Space shop. I do, I do believe that is your want this to be more kiwi. So anyway, she had this tearful video. Oh, yeah. Poor Lavy. I know, but she was obviously wrong. So Brazil won. Are we sure? Oh, okay. Yeah, Brazil won. But how many of the crowd disappeared during the game? Well, they disappeared afterwards. So she came out. I'm not surprised because they're right. Yeah, you know, well, that's where they disappeared to the pub. The pub. Anyway, and then apart from this, a Garnan witch doctor claims he put a curse. Oh, I did see this. On the England team. And he did it with the smoke and the in the crowd during. At the beginning. Good on it. We've touched on this sort of a little bit before. Now, I don't intend to be controversial here. In fact, quite the opposite. I feel like you're going to. But no, I'm not, actually. Okay. But is this inviting stereotypes in racism? I don't believe so. Is he going to play that role? No. I don't believe so. But here's what I would say. If you are going to get a sporting advantage from the all-natural. Now, whether this be a spell or whether this be God inspired you with divine intervention, is that not performance enhancing? Maybe it is. So it should be banned. Yes. You can't, that's performance enhancing. As soon as somebody wins something and says, I thank God, no! Because he's enhanced your performance at that point. Well, you can't do that. Well, let's let's cheers. What are we cheersing, John? The Almighty, the cult? Keir Starmer Rosen. So cheers. You've got Keir Starmer and Ben Stokes. What more could you want for England? Prince Andrew. Prince Andrew. Oh, there's a couple. I believe the term is three peas in a pod. Quick bites. Prince Andrew. Let's go, Wimbledon, just quickly. Serena Williams has been given a wild card for Wimbledon. Can you believe that? She's playing in the singles. Did she earn it? Or was she given it?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

That's a shame. Columbia drew 0-0 with Portugal, topped their group. Portugal only came second. Croatia beat Ghana 2-1 and go through. So the Ghana bloody witch doctor didn't work in any witch way. Which Ghana deserved it. I know, I know. But after not being given the obvious penalty that they were not given against England, Ghana deserved an opportunity to go to that cockroach. Filthy, dirty, corrupt English officials. Come on, England. Brazil beats Well, no one else will. Brazil won 2-1 this morning against Japan. Didn't they? Yep. What were the big results? Morocco beat Netherlands on penalties. We're coming to the one. I thought that was a big result. Well, can we leave that one for it's either a bouncing off the helmet or something? Weird like that. So but looping back, Martin, because we're gonna have to go through this fairly quickly. Paige Spiranik, last week you said that they weren't real. I was wrong. I've even got you were wrong. Read it. I you were wrong, Martin. He put an exclamation mark. I'd put two exclamation marks on that. Apparently, I am wrong. And apparently I'm okay with that. And so am I. She's lovely. What a lovely error. We might just do something on page sprang every week. Well, she could be the page. She could be the loop. And every week. The page the page loop. Right. What else, Martin? Brilliant. Well, we've got some crazy cricket stuff that's happened all over the world. Some fantastic. I would like to highlight something in the cricket world. Go on. May have, to quote a familiar phrase, gone through to the keeper. Yes. Ireland. And he's he's crap as well. Ireland. Oh! Oh! Isn't that Ireland? Two in a row now against But that's not two in a row. That's the series done. There were only two matches. The current T20 world champions, India. At the start of their brand new career under their new captain, their new world dominance. They've travelled to Ireland. Yeah. Now, on the scale of one to a million, India being one, where would Ireland rate? About 25. Yes. This means Ireland aren't even going to the World Cup. So one other thing I just want to touch on, John, with uh with the World Cup. Yeah. If you remember the uh the first round of the group stages, uh Tunisia got belted and then uh sapped their coach. Correct. If you remember. So it was of interest to me to think, well, how did the new coach go? And where did Tunisia end up? So the new coach, he's lost his first two matches. Oh dear. And now has a goal difference of minus 10. Which, when you look through all the teams that finished fourth, uh, if we go from the top, Chechia performed better than them. Yeah, Qatar performed better than them. Uh-huh. Haiti was better than them. Turkey was better. New Zealand was better. Saudi Arabia was better. Jordan was better. Uzbekistan and Panama were better. Only Iraq were worse. No wins and a minus 11 as gong difference. So Tunisia officially, after sacking their coach, are the second worst team out of the 48. There you go. Don't sack your coach. Exactly right. Goodness me. How silly. Look, we've got a fair bit to go through, Martin. So we do. Can I can I can I possibly move on to something? Yes, you can. What would you like? Well, I thought that we might do a bit of hitting the crack. Okay. What crack would you like to hit? Martin. Something to do with the horses. The gallopers. What are you doing? I'm hitting the crack. Oh. That's the worst thing I've seen in a long time. Again, for those that only listen to the international, he lost sleep. Thinking and planning that joke. Anyway, Martin, crazy moments in world sport. Germany losing the penalty shootout. They can't lose on I know. To Paraguay this morning. Well, no one likes the Germans. Anyway. And that's this is just in soccer. Germany. Yeah. What have you done? I know. And they never look in since I was like five. I've never ever known Germany lose a penalty shootout. Ever. Well, they're usually so robotic. They are. Was it a legitimate? Can I do that? No. No, it's the it's the crack. No. No. Um, was it a legitimate?

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

A legitimate shoe's his betting going on that we don't know. No, I saw some of it. And I'm not I I'm sorry. I I struggle when I see such awful sporting efforts. Yeah. Missed penalties. To the degree that they're missed at that level. When you know how much betting is on that game. I know. I s I just I struggle to lose. Yeah, I know, but I s I I struggle with it. I don't know what to say. Yeah. But okay, let's let's not worry about Germany. Go on. Let's think. Who beat them again? Uh Paraguay. Paraguay. Bloody good job, Paraguay. And? No, that's it. Oh, fantastic. This is what the knockout is all about. Yeah, yeah, I agree. It takes those great teams that are too freaking scared to play attacking football. Yeah. And basically neutralizes them. I have to say that there was a VAR that was terrible against Germany. It was awful. Oh, was that the oneie fell over there? Where the goalie was a love pat. He fell over a blade of grass. Yeah, there was possibly a love pat at a corner. Terrible, it was not great. Now this does lead me. You're runting? Freaking V-A-R in the world key. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's one right there. That's right. They analyzed that. This comes off my rant last week away. Last week from the AFL, where the match review panel looked at videos and couldn't get it right. Uh-huh. And if I had time to do another one on that, I would. But but the VAR in the World Cup, they looked at that footage and said, oh yes, that was an infringement. Like you said. He he appeared to fall over off air. He did. Yes. It was very, very soft. And that cost. Got a foot. Yes, got a foot. That was terrible. But worse than that, is the 3D imaging of offside. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Now, we've seen this on a number of occasions.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I think it was the Iran Egypt game. Right. Where they took a goal and said, no, he was offside. And what they do is they recreate the moment with 3D imaging of the two players and the offside line. Yes. And he was literally a thumbnail. Thumbnail over. But then when they went back to the live shot, the players weren't even in the same position. Yeah, yeah. They had altered the position of the players for the 3D imaging. They were not in the same position whatsoever. It is a bit weird. This VAR is as crooked as anything I've seen. It is obscene what they're the decisions they're coming up with are not even based on the game they're watching. This is world soccer. You're ranting. This is criminal. And worse than this, and I go back to the penalty shootout. Yeah. Why would VAR be this bad? Yeah, I don't know. I can't. Conspiracy theory. Well, if I heard a conspiracy theory 185. I heard a conspiracy theory in favour of Argentina the other day from a Portuguese fan of mine. Have you seen their draw? Yeah. Now, is that all down to arbitrary luck, drawing out of the balance of the case? I don't know, but the theory is that because A sponsor FIFA, they're the main sponsor, and they are also connected with Argentina. And when Messi has the ball, no one marks him. He's the best player in the world, and he's got all this space. This is the conspiracy. This isn't my theory. This is the conspiracy theory. But when Ronaldo's got the ball, and he is Portuguese, this guy, so he is a little bit partial to himself. A little bit. Yep. Everybody's on him. Yes, that's what he's saying. So I don't know. Martin, you had to get a foot out of here, did you not? I have a foot and I want to get it out of here. Go on then, throw it. Mate, I'm back on the world of cricket. Oh God. This is Sri Lanka. Yeah. The West Indies. This might be get the foot out of here. This might be one of the greatest things I've seen in cricket. So I'm just going to call up the exact numbers here. But picture this West Indies versus Sri Lanka. Uh-huh. Now we're not exactly talking to top tier teams. No. Tier teams. No, no. Not anymore, anyway. Not with the West Indies, unfortunately. No, no, no. Unfortunately, not quite. Yeah. So in the first test, West Indies versus versus uh Sri Lanka. Viv Richards Stadium. Yeah. Where's the Viv Richards Stadium? Antigua. Antigua. Yeah. Spot on. Absolutely. So let's just run through. It's an evenly poised game. Yep. We've got the first inning, Sri Lanka bowled out. Not bad. 308. You'd think that's a pretty solid score. So let's go to the West Indies. And we're just going to run through this very quickly. Yeah. One for 58. Uh-huh. Two for 97. Yeah. Three for 102. Uh-huh. Four for 154. Yeah. Five for 168. Yeah. Six for five hundred and sixty-nine. Wow. That's crazy. What was the partnership? Holy crap. Four hundred and one runs. Get the foot out of here. Oh shit. I've lost my foot. I've got it. Don't worry. I've got my foot. I've got to get it. Get the foot out of here. 401 runs for the sixth wicket. That is a record. It is a record. It is a record. We're punching. We're punching. What are we? Amir Junggu. Who? Junggu. I don't know Amir Junggu. But he hit a lazy 233. That's not bad. And Rolston Chase, the wicket keeper. Rolston, yes. Unlucky. 194. Oh. Almost got himself a double century. That is ridiculous. So the only thing that could have gone wrong from there is if something miraculous happened in the second innings for Sri Lanka. And the West Indies somehow didn't win this match. What happened? This did not happen. And the West Indies won by an innings and 217 runs. I love the West Indies. So they bowled out Sri Lanka for 101 in their second innings. Awesome. So let me put that in perspective. Yep. Just very quickly. Sixth wicket partnership, 401. Uh-huh. Sri Lanka batted twice. Yes. 20 wickets fell. Yeah. For a total of 407. It can happen. No, sorry, 409. I can't add up. 409. Back to school with you. Oh, screw you, Sri Lanka. Holy moly. I have a get the foot out of here. What was that? I have a get the foot out of here. Where's your foot? Where have you removed your foot? Mate Martin, you won't believe this one. I'm I'm on all ears. A USA reporter, Abigail Villez, claimed that the USA played Bosnia in the knockout stage. And the thing about Bosnia is that, quote, I have not a clue where they are on the map. And frankly, I don't care. Because the USA are here. Yes, they are here because she was there. Yes. And we we are here to win the World Cup. I don't give a damn where Bosnia are. Does she mean on the scale of one to like 50 in the rankings? No. Or does she mean geographically? Geographically. Well, never has a truer American statement been made anywhere in sports. Absolutely. I actually wrote down here the personification of America in those words. Hello. I'd laugh my cock off if Bosnia won. Let's go, Bosnia. Come on. How can the rest of the world now not be a hundred percent on Bosnia? Absolutely. I agree. But Martin, I'm going to present to you again. What do I have this for? Because you're going to bounce off it. Am I? You're bouncing off the helmet, aren't we? Uh are we? Aren't we? Bounce the helmet. Will it go on? Go on. I'm in. We're bouncing off the helmet. Uh-oh. Owl. Oh, I dropped it. Just like the England cricket team. So. Bouncing off the helmet. What's bounced off your helmet, John? Well, it's the helmet. It has to be the England cricket team. Does it? Yes. What's happened? Well, you know what's happened. They got flogged by. But tell the tell the viewers. Tell the listeners, John. No. What has happened to your beloved English team? They've fallen apartly and utterly. But I fixed them last week. No, you didn't. I did. I said, forget this English bollocks, become Great Britain. So what did they do? They didn't listen, did they? And how did they go when they didn't listen to Martin? Ben Stokes retired. Mid-match. So they lost their captain. McCullum and Rob Key need to go. They need to go. And who's Rob Key? He's a director of English cricket. Well, he's doing a good job. And who's Brendan McCullum? He's the coach. And who did he used to play for? New Zealand. We talked about this last year. And who did you just lose to? New Zealand. I know. So okay. Anyway, we've lost the series 2-1 and it's pathetic. Okay. It's embarrassing. That's what it is. Embarrassing. We probably shouldn't dwell on that too much. Go on then. Okay. What else have you got? So I think it's time to take uh some brevity. Levity and brevity. Oh nice. So I'm thinking let's launch into a wacky sport. Go for it, Martin. The English Cricket Board. What is my wacky sport? For this week. You conned me. I may have. But let's talk about the dumbest organization in world sport right now. The ECB. No way, son. Put that siren away. I can't agree with you more right now. Holy crap. Okay, first of all, where have we gone wrong? Well, your captain, after having another off-field issue with his drinking and his behaviour. Where's your beer? You drink drinker. Right here. Okay. Is it past midnight? Unbehaviour. No, because I haven't got a curfew. But he did. So now not only did he pull the pin apparently on his career and his captaincy, but he didn't wait till the end of the match, the end of the series. He did it leading into day four. Yeah. Bit all about Ben Stokes, really, isn't it? Not really about the team. Not really about English cricket.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, they'll be right back.

SPEAKER_00

And let's uh hey, this is my time. This is wacky sport. Which is all you've got. Screw you. You know I'm right. Pick this up. Carry on. Carry on. Carry on. Right. English sport, the ECB. Not only has Ben Stokes made his retirement all about him and not his team. Yeah. He then elevates himself to opener. Now we can argue, was it the team? Was it I think he was trying to do a Travis Head. Come out as opener, swashbuckle 170, and win the match. And nothing screams English cricket more than chasing 370 on a dodgy pitch and then getting out for 30 off 27 balls. Hey, look, this is, I don't even care what you have to say right now. This is this is a wacky sport. Your toilet roll dribbling. That's for the shit that the ECB is. So he's gone out, made it all about himself, and gone bang and got 30. What happened after he got 30? And this is the bigger issue when you gate elevate yourself to opener. It's a dodgy pitch, up and down, relatively new ball, out comes the God, the future saviour, Jacob Bethel. Oh yeah. Four ball duck. Because he's been exposed far too early to a new ball on an imperfect pitch. Mind you, what did Jacob do to get out? I didn't see the dismissal. Oh, he stuck his bat in the air and didn't play a shot. Oh, well. And got out, LBW. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. When you're number three and you're on a pitch where it's moving all over the place, you don't not offer a shot. Depends what he thought the ball was going to do. Doesn't. Well, he didn't think it was going to do what it did, which is hit the bloody wickets. But E C B. What have you got, John? Jumping. What's your defence? I'll only gonna have a 10-second defense. My opinion is that his teammates, Ben's teammates, said we want you to go out and open. As a final hurrah. Has he ever opened before? Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Cool. Okay. Yeah. Alright.

SPEAKER_00

And um we want you to do that. And I think that would be a fitting goodbye. Yeah, that was good because everybody that turned up on day five to say farewell to him. Yeah. He sat in the change rooms and did bugger all. Yes. Mind you, I did like the little song of no party, no, no stokesy, no party after he got dismissed. Oh, why not? Straight from the tart. So, first of all, embracing the Great Britain philosophy of bringing in the Scottish influence. Absolutely. Thank you very much. You are listening. But I'm not sure we should be promoting more partying from Ben. No. That seems to be the way he's got himself into the trouble. And as you've said to me earlier, John, you feel that possibly the ECB have thrown Ben under the bus. I do. I do think that. I would suggest that every time Ben went drinking, he handed the keys of that bus to Rob Key and said, Go for a drive, mate. That's all I can say. Pomp and circumstance, Martin. Pomp and circumstance. Yep. We'll be back. We'll find them on the beaches. Prince Andrew. Ben Stokes. Land of hope and glory. That's all I can say. Oh, so there's nothing wackier in world sport right now. And and I heard this quote, and this quote was from Michael Vaughan. Now, Michael Vaughan, for those who don't know, pretty well respected English cricketer, batsman, captain, great guy, all around pretty decent bloke. Yeah, yeah. And he said, it takes a lot of effort during a World Cup in England to get the headlines away from soccer. Well done, ECB. Well done, Ben. Because you did it. Yeah, true. Never have I enjoyed a wacky sport more than I've enjoyed the sports. I'm not trying to cut you off. We have other sports to Yes, we do. Can I round up on last week? What a load of swank. Yes, you can. What was uh what was swanky last week? Well, it was refresh my memory. Well, we're gonna move on. The um latter-day sportsman being better than earlier day sports. Oh, I thought you were gonna go Latter-day Saints. No, no Mormons here? No, absolutely not. We're a Mormon free zone. Thank God for that. Okay. Anyway, so I I was reading earlier this week about an English miler called Josh Kerr. Oh, yes. And Josh, he's good, he's the best in Britain at the moment. He's arguably top three in the world. However, he intends to break the world mile record this year with bespoke spike designs, speed suits, altitude room in his bedroom, physio living with him, ice baths every single day, uh, and everything that he does lasts the exact duration of the race in which he intends to break the record in. 348? Yes. 347 or something? I think it is that. However, he's still two seconds outside that. Now, Martin, again, you're way more of a runner than me. Two seconds in distance is what? When you're running at that pace, they're going at 20 kilometers an hour. So let's just okay, let's just go at four minutes for the mile. Yep. That's two minutes for 800. Yeah. Which is 15 seconds for a hundred. Yeah. So that means it's probably that. Every yeah, 15 seconds for a hundred means means every one and a half seconds is a meter. Yes. So two seconds is just about two meters. Yeah. Now that doesn't sound much. Oh, it is, it's huge. But you don't have to be a little bit of a little bit of a more than two meters. But that's but that is at four minute pace, not 348 pace. I thought it'd be more than two. So now you're talking two and a half meters. Yeah. Two and a half meters at that pace, you're already running at full tilt. Yeah, yeah. You can't suddenly just speed up from that pace and cover two and a half meters quicker. No, no, no. You're already running at a threshold that is so close to your maximum. Absolutely. That two and a half meters is well, put it like do you remember I spoke about last week, we spoke about Kai Robinson breaking the Australian 5K record at uh 1250 and he finished eighth in that race. Yes, yeah. There were eight runners within three seconds. Yeah. So two and a half meters in in a 1500 or a mile in a legitimate race could make you fifth in the race. Yes. You've been nowhere near the winner. I know. And apart from that, to beat El Garougi's record, like I said, he needs he's still more than two seconds outside it. Yeah. He quote, I want to be known as the best miler in history. He is talking a complete load of swank. Is he talking manufacturing that? No. He wants to actually manufacturing the world record or doing it legitimately in a race like El Garouge did. No, legitimately. Okay. All right. Well that okay. Yep. No worries at all. He doesn't stand up and health charts. He's not that good. Well, he occurs better than you than you really. He's actually a really seconds master. He's a masterful tactician in races. Well, so much so that. But they're not pure pace. So they are racing to win, not racing to run fast. Sure. Very different things. When he was that he's that masterful, that's I think it was in the World Championships that he got his opponent, uh Inge Britson, so much in his head that neither of them won. Well, to be fair to Kerr, and I'm not gonna pick on him for this, but in that race, if you could beak Inge Britson, uh-huh, you'd be pretty sure you were gonna win. It's a bit like Cohenovis. Yeah. And then somebody else won the beat both. Exactly. If you've done all you can do to beat Inge Britson, you've won that race. Yeah. And wasn't it an American? I seem to remember. I can't remember. I'm pretty sure we recycle and check. I'm pretty sure it was an American that ran over the top of them. And since then, he has been prolific. Yeah. Okay. Well, if he's been good enough, then he's been good. Yep. But anyway, there's my Yeah, that's a bit of slow to swank this week. Okay. Now I want to cover just a couple of quick ones. We I want to loop back round from last week. We didn't get to the com games. No, do it. The Commonwealth Games. I just want to give a quick overview because they're not normal Commonwealth games. Uh-huh. They start in three weeks, July 23rd. Yep. They're in Glasgow. Oh, right. Still remember why they're in Glasgow for the second time in a row. Tell me, Martin. Well, because, you know, the Seth Paul of Australia, Victoria. Uh-huh. Uh fucked up. Said, we'll take them. And then couldn't do it. And then went, yeah, yeah, yeah. No, we won't. Yeah. We're going to run away. So yeah, they they they said they'd do it, then they said they wouldn't. So Glasgow. So the Glasgow army's going to go freaking berserk in three weeks. They all will have just gone home from the World Cup. Then they'll go, well, we cracked on the comp games. We've got a five weeks. Oh my lord. So what have we got? Well, Glasgow have gone well. We can't quite do everything.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Because we only had it four years ago. So they've stepped up. So it is a modified com games. There's only 11 sports. Oh, really? Now you may not have known this. No, I don't. And the listeners and viewers may not know this. The com games have now been done where they combine at the same time the Paralympic portion and the able-bodied portion. Right. So they don't separate them out and do them one after another. They do the events together. Right. Which is a really, really nice way of doing it. Yeah, yeah. Because it makes everything inclusive. It's really good. Yep. So we got athletics, we got swimming, we got gymnastics, we got track cycling, netball, weightlifting and powerlifting. Yeah. Boxing and judo. Bowls and three-on-three basketball. Yeah. They're the 11 sports.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_00

That uh are in these Commonwealth games. So the track and field, though, is obviously the main. Yeah, yeah. So the track and field is everything. The swimming is everything. And then boxing is swimming. Artistic gymnastics, so it's not the entire gymnastics. So dancing. Yes, with ribbon. Ribbon-y things and ball things and yeah, that sort of stuff. Not my catalog. Visually sort of nice at times. Yes. Netball? Well, just take Adelaide. Just take the Thunderbirds, I say, to the Commonwealth Games. That's all Australia needs. Yeah, mate. Mind you, if you look at the Thunderbirds team, there's about four out of the seven that are not Australian. Oh. So uh, you know. Where are they from then? Oh, there's uh one from England, one from Africa. Uh yeah, they've dropped it around a couple from New Zealand. Yeah, it's an international. They have a number of international players they can have in each team here. Right. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. So, but that's the overview of the COM game. So we'll uh we'll go through a couple of updates in the next two to three weeks of just different sports and and what it's looking like. Yeah. Um as we go. So uh so but we've also got the big, the big sport at the moment in the international, which is the uh T20 World Cup. Oh, wonderful. So the Women's World Cup.

Okay.

So just hit me with it, Martin. Just because we can say this right now, and I think this is important, Australia beat India. Wonderful. Just like Ireland did. And for me, that's three in a row losses for India at T20. Um now, so you'll be very happy with this. Your girls, your girls did what you boys couldn't do. We won a game against New Zealand. Hey! That is brilliant. Oh, very proud of you. Yes. So England have England have gone pretty well. So there's games all over the place. Let's take a look at where we stand for this. So we've got two tables, standout performers. Uh, five games played by everyone. Australia, five and oh. Yeah, not a surprise. England, five and oh, not a surprise. Yeah. South Africa, four and one. India, three and two, West Indies three and two, Sri Lanka three and two. Uh-huh. That's probably where your uh world championships come from. Yeah. From there. Now, after that, you're going Bangladesh and New Zealand at 2-3. So, no, no, you go on those first teams. So uh Aussies, South Africa, India, England, West Indies, Sri Lanka. Yeah. I would argue they're your top six. They're gonna go and play quarterfinals, semifinals, finals somewhere out of that group. Yes. So it's all progressing very, very well from an Australian point of view. Well, there you are. That is wonderful. Martin, I have to talk about Wimble Wimbledon. Wimbledon? Thank you. Did you read my notes? No. I just know that you will pick on literal people. Why is it? I don't know. This is this might sound interesting. To those of you listening. Yes. Some Australians that I know, in fact, many that I know, refer to Aust uh sorry, refer to Wimbledon as Wimbledon. Yes. I I I've worked it out. For years I thought, what the hell? Why? Yeah. And I think it's because the Aussies will change a T for a D. Like water. Water. Water. So therefore they've got it in reverse. They think that it's spelt with a T. So they've pronounced it right. Where are you going with this, John? Yeah, no, and then they've gone correcting themselves and tried to pronounce it correctly in their mind because it's English, old boy. Oh. And they've gone Wimbledon. I think you've confused yourself in this process. I don't think so. I think I've. However, I you know, uh, from an Australian point of view, I have heard this as well. Right. I have heard the pundits. Uh-huh. I mean, let's keep in mind it's tennis. Yes. Now, tennis. Well, you love tennis as well. It invokes a Well go for a game, Martin. Let's go for a game. Well, no, we've done this. Come on. We've done this before. And I'm no good. But uh I one of the things about the sports that I play is I choose to play sports. And tennis, it's look, it's just table, it's ping-pong on grass. Uh with the ball. Coming out, you're at 220 kilometres an hour all the time. Oh yeah, yeah. Whoa, whoa, whoa, 200. It's not a cricket ball, it's a tennis ball. Sure. Soft. You go on a. It doesn't hurt. Anyway, that's not the point. But why do we change the pronunciation of it? That's correct. So we'll get back to that. Dim. Just do. Is that changing the D for a Tim? Yeah, yeah, just a bit a bit dim. Right, fair enough. Yeah. No, there's nothing, no, no good reason for that whatsoever. Anyway. Really bad abilities with the English language. Anyway, it is lovely to see real grass on a tennis court. Yeah, it is better than clay. Yeah, it's nice. I don't rate clay. And it's nice to look at, you know, the All England club and all that kind of stuff. I will miss Prince Andrew in the crowd. Does he go? Well, wouldn't he just be Andrew? Well, yes. He might be there. Well, I didn't have any strawberry. Cliff Richard will probably be there. But isn't he still a sir? Maybe he is. Probably is, actually. I think Andrew is. No. On to the results. Yannick Sinna. Is he is the devil going? Yeah, well, he won in five sets yesterday. Again, struggled against Ketchmanov. What is he playing that is five sets? They're all good players. I saw it. Well, what lead up matches five sets? They're all five sets. Wimbledon's five sets, it's a slam. It's a grand slam. Oh, hang on. Have I made a mistake? Yes, Wimbledon started. Wimbledon has started!

SPEAKER_01

No!

SPEAKER_00

I thought they were still doing warm-up matches. No, no, no, no, no Wimbledon started last night. Oh, yeah. Struggled in five sets against Ben Malovich. Do you know what? That's as funny, or almost as funny, as me watching England playing cricket last week. Hang on, hang on. And I thought that a certain player wasn't playing. Yes. Because I told you. No, no, I thought he was playing. I told you Henry wasn't playing until you told me he absolutely was. And I must have been that hammered that I was watching a replay thinking it was now. Yes. Anyway, moving on. That's not good, is it? That's not something to be proud of. So anyway, just because you like watching Wimbledon. The Joker one in four. Jokers in four. Sinners in four. Beats Bautista Ajut from France. Uh in straight set. Sabalenko. I reckon the French guy has thrown the match. Thrown the match. Said, not interested because we're going to win the World Cup. Alright. And I'd rather be in the pub watching the World Cup alongside Ben Stokes. Who's quit his cricket career with no curfews? Hey, look, why not? So the wacky boy himself can sit in the pub and watch England lose the quarterfinal. Nah. Sabalanka through no problem, the ladies. Asaka turned up in a ridiculous, stupid dress. Apparently for Japan. For Japan? Yes, well, she's Japanese. Not for herself. No. She did it in what's the word? Umor of Japan. That's it. Honor of Japan. Yeah, what a load of rubbish. Are you sure she didn't just do it for herself? No, I think she did do it for herself. Okay, that's what I would have thought too. What about the demon? Is the demon. Don't know. I don't think he's played yesterday. Okay. Alright, so he hasn't played round yet. We're rolling on. And what about your mate and mine? Who? What's his name? Mr. One Win, who became world champion. Watson. Watson? Who are you talking F1 now? No. What what's the what's the Australian guy? I couldn't remember his name last time. He can't be out. Yeah, he was knocked out yesterday. Oh no! Yeah. Oh, he's no longer world number one. Did one big win and that's it. Now, unless I'm mistaken, Martin, and I am very much mistaken. Yes. We're near the end. However, we do have to talk quickly talk F1. Uh yes, yep, we can do that. Go for it. Well, it was an interesting, interesting race, wasn't it? George Russell landed on pole. Yeah. Little bit of conjecture. Yes. Apparently he achieved the fastest time in qualifying under yellow. Yeah, he did. That's right. Possibly under double yellow. Yes. Where he was meant to ease off the pace coming down the straight. Yeah. But when you see the replay, the lights at the start of the straight were alternating between yellow and green. Yeah. That's a bit confusing. Yes. So, but it was definitely yellow. Verstappen went off. And so they definitely called a yellow, but there's no question. Yeah. Somebody hit the wrong button somewhere. So they investigated it. I think. I tell you what. How can you hit the wrong freaking button? You got one job. Yeah. Hit the right freaking button. Exactly. So I think they they allowed George to go from poll because that was pretty weird. Yeah. They probably shouldn't have. But they did, and I understand why they did, because it wasn't clear. You then had the Ferraris, second and third. Ferraris. Well, Lewis is doing okay. No, not really. Not off that race. Yeah, overall he's going okay. You know, I wouldn't consider a Kardashian going okay, but you know, that's okay. So George Russell started on pole. Yeah, finished first. So he sort of ran around the track and just did his thing. Easy. Verstappen overcame his his uh his crash at the end of qualifying there to finish second. Yeah. Uh Kimmy Antonelli did a good job for uh finishing third. So that preserves his lead. Uh Piastri in fourth, Hamilton in fifth. Yeah. Lando Norris. Now there's some McLaren. When did he come? Uh he uh rolled through in seventh. So champ, well, champion my ass. World champion handed a championship by screwing over his teammate last year. And now this year he's proving how utterly average he is as a driver. Was his teammate pastry by any chance? Yes. Oh DM me. So now you've got them Australian. Now you've got them racing legitimately, and Norris is nowhere near him. He's just average at best this year, Norris. Oh dear. Uh but I do believe McLaren's probably some extra fines for some irregularities in the car again. Right. Which which talks to McLaren. They just have so many problems adhering to rules, it seems, this year. Yeah, they keep pushing. Yeah, they're pushing more than pushing. Yeah. Silly boys. Yes. So what have we got as far as the championship goes? Antonelli's gone pretty strong. 40 points in front of Russell, whose courtesy of that win has jumped Hamilton again by six points. Did he enjoy it? So guessing he did. Judging by his profile picture, he's got a smile on his face. Maybe he got some Kim. Don't know. Right. But uh yeah, uh Hamilton third, and the rest of them don't matter. Yeah. Fair enough, too. Piastri force, fourth, Norris fifth. Yeah. Leclerc sixth, that's it. Verstappen's way down in seventh. It's irrelevant. Yeah. Yeah, it's between Antonelli, Russell, and Hamilton. Well, Martin, that brings us to a close for this evening. It does. Yes. If I can just make one very late honourable mention. Go on then. Just a a serious honorable mention. We now know the state of the English cricket situation. And I'd like to officially on SportsBiz worldwide put my faith in Harry No Brain Brooke for captaincy. I'm willing to start an online petition. But you're not. Harry should be captain. No, you don't mean that. I don't care about Bethel. He should be capable of the captain. Roots no longer that option. Nah, no. Duckett, well, he can't even get an Uber. So he's not really in line for captaincy. The other guy, actually, do you know who I'd like to see captain more than more than Harry Nobrain? John. I'd like to see Jamie Can't Play Smith. Right. Can you imagine Jamie? Nah, Mr. I can't catch wicket keeper Smith as captain. No. He wouldn't have no. So we're gonna back Brooke the Babbler. Ollie Robinson. The babbler. He can't even stay in the team. Well he put his hand up because he thinks he's the best bowler since both of them. Or Willis. Yeah. Or Larwood. Yeah, yeah. I don't know. Someone when you guys were competitive. And Meg Martin, that is all we have time for now. So I hope you all enjoyed this episode. Oh, I did. Remember to have a gander at all the socials. And uh until then, it's good night from me because we're doing this in honour of the two rollers. It's good night from me. Great British legs, it's good night from him. Good night.
