SPEAKER_00

Good evening, sportsbiz family, and welcome to episode number 52 with more frivolity, fun, and pheromones with Mr. Martin Winnell, aka the dog. New Southwest! And myself, John Briggs, or Briggsy, as some of you prefer to call me, because this is the only podcast you will ever need in your life, as we hit all those open cracks all the time because sport is life and life is sport. What is happening, Martin? I think we know. I think we do know. I think we do. I think we definitely do.

SPEAKER_02

It's state of origin. It's the most glorious win you can have. The win that you never saw coming. Indeed. So we did state of origin, AFL, NRL, Athletics. What is that?

SPEAKER_00

What is that? Well, I can say the same thing about your outfit. Absolutely. I've never seen anything so well. Well, I can't use the word, but really, this is turn that crap off.

SPEAKER_02

Turn that crap on. This is courtesy of Rick McKee. The winning gnome, the troll, and the suit. Because Queensland were not up to it. I've never been happier to be so wrong. Seven days ago in my prediction, John. Outfit martin. So wrong. So wrong. But I was, and I'm happy. So again, we've got World Championship, BMX racing, athletics. The con games are now only a handful of days away. Only a week away. Yeah. Uh AFL, NRL. State of origin. You little Queenslander. Thank you, Smith. Aren't you? Yes. You call me what you like in this outfit. I don't care. Ah. All I can. Yeah, that's what you get. That's exactly what Queensland did six days ago. We despired, as Freddie Mercury would say. What have you got for us, John? Did you find anything important? Oh, look, I I did, but we're going to come to that in a while.

SPEAKER_00

But because before that, Martin, I have a joke.

SPEAKER_02

You have a joke? I do.

SPEAKER_00

I do indeed. Yes.

SPEAKER_02

Is it Queensland? That's really obvious. Is it England? No, that's no, no, no, definitely not. Cricket. Kick. Well, it's not soccer, is it? Well, look, it's not soccer right now, but it's definitely cricket. But hit me with your St. George joke. Indeed. A woman goes to a tattooist. Okay. And she says to the tattooist, I want my fanny tattooed. Oh. I know. With a troll doll. And the the tattoo is says, Okay, drop your knickers, let's have a look. So she dutifully likes Well, you haven't got much choice, I guess.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely, that's right, yeah, exactly. Okay. And she's obviously been priming herself for this for some time and saved up the money for it.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, yeah. Anyway. Confidence. Confidence? That's right, yeah. Yes. So he goes, Oh, ooh.

SPEAKER_00

Gee. I'm gonna have to. Yeah, look, we we're gonna have to numb that. And she goes, Oh, okay. Fair enough. So he goes, num.

SPEAKER_02

No. And your drum kit's not ready. Because even your drum kit knew it was bad. Oh no. Anyway. Nothing could be closer to a Queensland joke than that tonight. Hey, look, we're gonna move on to this week's clickbait. Yes.

SPEAKER_00

With the clicker us. Did you find it? Oh, always had trouble, Martin. Yeah. Had a bit of trouble putting my finger on it. Yep. But, you know, it's on the tip of my tongue.

SPEAKER_02

What have we got for us? You will love this one. I look forward to it. Australian women's cricket. Rocked by a cheating scandal. Oh yes, I did hear this. Was it sandpaper? No, well, I hope not.

SPEAKER_01

Was it was it boiled or wheeled? Well, after they may have the number. Did they fill their pockets with dirt? No, well, yes.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, yes. Did they? There's a lot of dirt here. Oh, what happened? Ashley Gardner's wife. Oh, oh. Monica Wright. Ashley Gardner's wife? Yes. Monica Wright.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, I know. I'm still struggling with all of that, but there you go.

SPEAKER_02

Well, who knows? Okay. What's what's under? She accused Well, the the wife. Accused the all-rounder of having an affair. Oh no. With teammate. Oh, Virginia Vol. Excuse me. This seems Virginia Virginia Vol. Yes. So let me ask a serious question here. Are her initials V V or are they W?

SPEAKER_00

I think that's a legitimate question. All I know is at the moment Right. What's happened? There is all kinds of histrionics and scandal with the Australian women's cricket team.

SPEAKER_02

This can be overcome. And the clickeress. Yes. I believe this is this is gonna we're we're gonna circle back to this. I feel this is a this is a clickeress that will keep giving. Well, I think it probably will. I think it might. I know. Uh however, this this too can be overcome, I believe. Indeed. In uh maybe they just have to stay on separate floors in the uh in the hotels to keep these girls. What about the dressing room? Well, normally you wouldn't know because there is actually an international cricket rule, unless of course you're England, that says you are not allowed to film in the dressing rooms, and if you do, you are not allowed to release the film until after the game. I was only referring to the room. Unless you're England. I was only referring to proximity. Their own private. Oh well, they they would they just have to have players in between. Yeah, right. A buffer, if you will.

unknown

A buffer. Right.

SPEAKER_02

Look, this this is always the problem with international travelling teams. Do they play on grass or carpet? I believe turf. Right. But it is a drop-in pick wicket. Oh my god. It would always be a drop-in wicket. Well, absolutely. Anyway, there you go. Scandal. Scandal! Scandal in the Australian cricket. Well, it's nice to have a scandal again. We've been scandalous for a little while in Australian cricket. I know. Uh sand papers gone.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Dodgy picture gone. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And there's been nothing else. Well, the girls have Well, Dave Warner retired, so pretty much he doesn't speak now, so doesn't really. It's all good. Girls have stepped up to the plate. The girls have taken on the mantle and said, See, hold my beer. Even that's got the word man in it. Mantle? Yes. It does. You fool. You fool. Okay, what are we kicking off? We're celebrating. Oh my god, we are. What are we celebrating, John? You tell me. You'll be celebrating. You tell me, John. Something to do with rugby league. What should we celebrate this week? What result happened in the last seven days? Cheers, my good man. That was magnificent. Well, my prediction was wrong. And your prediction was wrong. Oh, too. My prediction was an abomination. Yeah, wasn't it? Cheers. Wow. Cheers, mate. Back to uh back to windfarers. Oh, wayfarers, sorry. I was gonna say, what's a windfarer? Tropical. Well, we know what a windfarer is. Uh, but but wayfarers, so uh tenerife. CBD of Brisbane.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

So still in the south east. But this celebrates a Queensland beer for a New South Wales victory. Right. Have you ever been to Tenerife? The real Tenerife, no. No. But we don't care about the real Tannerife. The real Tannerif is 100k north. Just off Africa. With a volcano in it. A volcano called tidy. Do they be board down it? No. Volcanic boarding? No. No. No, no, circling backwards. We're not. No, we're not circling anywhere. Okay. State of origin, go for it. New South Wales. I thought Queensland were crap. I thought New South Wales were excellent. New South Wales were as good as I've seen them in probably five years for the first 20 games. No. For the whole 80 minutes. Well, you did have a little bit of assistance from the extra man on the pitch. Well, this is now. I'm glad you bring this up. Sure you are. Because uh I believe Ashley Klein, and we know Ashley Klein has had his moments throughout the last 10 years with certain issues, with decisions. Gambling. Betting. Yes, yes. But never has he been as concise, as fair, and accurate as he was in the third origin match. Yeah. Yeah, right. And it was a knock-on. No, it was Oh, sorry. Yes, exactly right. Right. Yes. I think we now all know It was definitely a knock-on. Uh Boschok touched that special ball in that uh in that area. And Bradman Best still might be the greatest name in Australian sports. Probably is, yeah. Uh ran at 90 metres and scored a try. Not the deciding try of the game. No, but it was an Still with 20 minutes to go, but a momentum change. Absolutely. Because Queensland were just getting back into the game at that point. Well, they felt they were, but they weren't actually. Well, I watched it, and they weren't starting to. They were starting to, but they weren't exactly menacing the line, if you like, looking to score. They were just getting close. Yeah. A lot of people have said that decision cost them the game. They lost by 18 points. That's three converted tries, so no, it didn't. 50 errors might have might have cost them the game a little bit more. I think so. The handling was. I reckon that I reckon 50 mistakes in 80 minutes, that's what, one every one minute 20 or thereabouts. Not the same as game two. But they shook him early, and that's what. Oh, they jumped. Nathan Cleary, man of the match, jumped out. First two tries. I can't understand why people don't rate him. He's brilliant. It's a strange one. Yeah. Yeah. You agree. Yeah, it's it's a strange one. Um yeah, he's pretty much done it all now, including man of the match and winning a state of origin decider in Queensland. And Laurie Daly surprised everybody. Laurie Daly had already been told he was sacked. Yeah, wow. And he went out and won the series a few days later. How do you mean told he was sacked? He was told he was not going to be coaching the next year already. So he's not the coach next year, even though he won. That's ridiculous. Well, they already made their choice. Now, if you were Laurie Daly and they turned around and said, Oh, well, you won it, so fancy coaching again. Yeah, bollocks. Would you? No, unless you want to triple my pay. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. So I still think Madge Maguire will be back coaching next year. Okay. Because I don't believe the Broncos will let him see out the season. They'll sack him and we'll take him straight back. Okay. Thanks very much. Another three series in a row. No, I will use it. It is a dynasty. A state of origin dynasty has begun. It's a dysentery. I'm making the call now, and only a dodgy Queensland fan would have an issue with this. Bollocks. We have to cop it when you guys drop the ball over the line to score a try and win. Greg Inglis. We have to cop it when we lose a decider by one point. When Justin Hodges scores a try when there's a clear shepherd and he runs around the back of it. Oh dear. And the and the ref says, oh no, we'll just let that go. We lose that by one. We have to cop that on the chin and go, that's the game. Yeah. So Cam Munster, Cameron Smith, John Briggs. To all of you. You lost. You know you lost. And you know, state of origin. Can I, before we go on to the other major in Australia. There's nothing else. A quick Wimbledon. Wimbleton? Yes. What happened in Wimbledon? Wimbleton. Um you were womble by chance. No. Did you used to watch that? Of course I watched the wombles from Wimbledon. Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Common are we? Well, I'm not common, but I don't know about you.

SPEAKER_01

You're very, very common.

SPEAKER_00

Anyway, so we had a bit of a Australian celebration in the first uh round with Maya Joint. What a name. Maya Joint. Uh beating Serena. I mean, I'm not quite sure what the massive celebration was. But it does, wasn't it? Yes. But I'm not sure what the huge celebration was about because Serena Williams had retired for four years. She's 40. And hadn't had any pre-match warm-ups or anything like that. Goes straight in and plays a good player and loses in the first round.

SPEAKER_02

You don't understand what the celebration was about. You realise it wasn't an Australian celebration. Go on. It was a worldwide celebration. How is that a worldwide celebration? Well, one less one less Hank in the uh in Wim Wooden, so everyone wins. Yeah. One less Williams. Yeah. Everyone wins. Yeah. Everyone's happy. Right. Well, misunderstood our acclaim. Maya joint, whose mum was in the crowd holding her daughter's teddy bear. Why?

SPEAKER_00

Because it was her daughter's teddy bear.

SPEAKER_02

Does she still sleep with her? She wanted to have some TV camera thing on her, I think.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, okay. As a good mum. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I know. Yep. But that she's actually American, so one more yank.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, she is true, isn't she? She moved out to Australia. Yeah, so Maya's okay, but her mum is. Yeah, right. Yeah. Well, she walks around Wimbledon with a teddy bear. Yeah, absolutely right. Yeah, so no. So the demon only reached the fourth round. Yeah. That's a bit off for him. Yeah, each quarter final was dented his confidence a little bit there. I think he wants to take a break. And you had some aspiration and hope in junior Wimbledon. With Come on! He doesn't have the hand, but he's got the come on. Oh no. He does the come on, but he hasn't gone the the stupid. What is that? What is this? I don't actually know. It's like a cooker better backwards. I don't I'd be interested to find out what it was. It's more like a more like a snake. No, you can't. You gotta get the top bit flat. Oh, my hands don't do that. Because you're weird. So Cruz Hewitt lost in the final. Oh Cruz. I know, he didn't cruise through. A lot taller than his parents. Yes. Six from what I believe. Yes. Well, Beck and Leighton aren't 6'2. Obviously not. They're not I don't think they're 5'10 either. Little Leighton. In the crowd, trying to coach his son, but didn't work.

SPEAKER_00

Anyway, so we don't cheat.

unknown

You're right.

SPEAKER_00

Anyway. It's allowed now. What is? Coaching from the crowd. Since when? About two years ago. Why?

SPEAKER_02

Because they couldn't stop people doing it. So something's something's outside the rules, but we can't stop people from doing it, so we'll tell them it's okay. Well, what they decided was. Only England, girls and boys, only England would do that. No, it wasn't England, it was World Tennis Association. I'm sticking with England. What they decided was that every other sport you're allowed to do that. Okay. Why wouldn't tennis? Yeah. So are we going to approach the you don't have to hold your breath and be quiet whilst they serve moment? Because there's only two sports in the world where you have to be quiet at the start of a point. Golf and tennis. Every other sport you can make noise. Yeah, not every, but yeah. Well, tell me another sport, it's banned.

SPEAKER_00

Because there's a break in the in the game. That's why. In football, any of the football, it's constant, it's fluent, it's it keeps going. Same with boxing. Set shot on goal.

SPEAKER_02

Ah, look. Free kick. Maybe. They shouldn't be. Shouldn't everyone have to be quiet? Maybe they should. Jude Bellingham. No. Well, he would never take a free kick because he's not good enough. Kane. Kane. Harry Kane. Yeah. Lining up, 22 feet out from goal. Uh-huh. Wall set. Everybody ready. He's standing there. And then you get the announcer that says, now will everybody please be quiet whilst Harry takes his kick. Gosh. It's just can you imagine that? Tradition, Martin. Anyway, moving on. What have you got for me in the world of AFL? Collingwood won. Yeah. Do you know, as I as I came to join you tonight, I was thinking to myself, Collingwood won, but I honestly can't remember who they played. Who did they actually play?

SPEAKER_00

Does it really matter? They got the win.

SPEAKER_02

They got the win. Who else? Oh wait, they played North Melbourne. That's correct. They did too. Um Adelaide squeaked past the Gold Coast, our beloved Gold Coast, where we What was the score? An absolute crap load to absolutely nothing. Yeah. 120. Sons of really 129 to about 49. That's pathetic. Sons of shit. Yeah, 70, 78-point win. They're not going to make I don't. I think they're going to really struggle from here to uh even make the wild card. So finishing 10th out of 18, I think they're going to struggle. And I'm pretty sure they've actually got a really horrible run home. Yeah, right. Yeah. Whereas Adelaide's is okay. Yeah. Um, although we got we got to play one and two. Yeah. But uh yeah, we're yeah, yeah, Gold Coaster's struggling. So uh top of the table clash.

SPEAKER_00

So I do have a later one, if you don't mind. Yes. For hitting the crack on that stupid score.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. Please. If we can hold off on that one. We can. Thank you. We can. But yes. So it's truth is the AFL was pretty much spot on. Yeah. Everybody that should have won won. It was a tipper's fantasy. Uh it was a really easy round to get eight from eight. Okay, cool. Nine from nine. Nine from nine. There's eighteen teams. Well done. Nine from nine. I'm thinking. How did you do it maths at school, Martin? Uh I was fair to midling. Yeah. Yeah. They didn't appreciate the way I did my maths. I thought I was quite good. Well, there you go. That's all that matters, isn't it? Apparently not. Apparently someone else mattered. So who Oh, big game though, next week for Collinwood and Carlton. Big game. There's a couple of big games. Sydney v. Adelaide. Yeah. In at the SCG. Okay. That's a biggin. It is. That's two v five. That's what I think.

SPEAKER_00

What's your prediction?

SPEAKER_02

Oh, Adelaide's going well again, but Sydney at the SCG, I think you'd have to pick Sydney. Really? Yeah. Yeah. They're not they're up and down, even though they're second. They are a bit up and down, but at home, I'm not sure you can tip against them. Right. I'd prefer to get that one wrong, a bit like the state of origin. Yeah. And see us win, but yeah, tough. Right. Tough. And then you guys have got your old enemy. Colton. Collingwood Carlton. I know. Uh got some bad news. You reckon? Yeah. What's your prediction then? I think Carlton by four goals. It's like maybe a hundred to seven, eighty, something like that. No, I think it'll be a bit tighter. Maybe 90 to 70, 90 to 65, somewhere in there. I don't think it'll be. I don't think anyone will hit 100 goals. Yeah. In that game. The firepower isn't there. Yeah. But the defensive game is for both games. Yeah, well, that's nice. I'm not thinking anyone's going to hit 100 on that one. And it's MCG. Yeah. So it's July, it's Melbourne. It's pissing cold and wet and horrible. Yeah. I watched some of the Hawthorne Carlton game last weekend at the MCG. And that might be some of the heaviest rain I've ever seen in a match. Imagine playing in the match. It was awful. Yeah. You could barely see. Yeah, yeah. It was so heavy. So yeah, Melbourne's just hideous at this time of year. Yeah, yeah. Oh well. Thank God we're in Sydney. Right, Martin. Yes. What have you got? Oh. Would it be okay if I slapped your fat as well?

SPEAKER_00

You go on. Ooh, ooh. As per the song that we open with.

SPEAKER_02

It's sticking up.

SPEAKER_00

As per the song that we open this podcast with. What was that? You're coming out. Oh. Anyway.

SPEAKER_02

I'm very nice. I didn't know what that song was when you played it. I just thought it was stopping me talking about the state of origin. So shut up, John. And it had nothing to do with it. It was Dynaros.

SPEAKER_00

Anyway, crack of attitude today. With a bad attitude from an Australian sports person. By the way, we do have this in the international version as well, so it's not just about Australians.

SPEAKER_02

What did we do this time? Well, then. You've had to search this one out, huh? I remember it. We've been on pretty good. Oh, is this historical? Yeah, of course. Oh, okay. I thought this was current. I thought we'd been pretty. No, this is well behaved whenever. Okay. We can search this up as far as time begins. Okay, well, we've got plenty of uh plenty of options. 2009. Right. Australia win another match. In what sport?

SPEAKER_00

Cricket. Cricket. Okay. At the SCG. Yeah. And Simon Katich, who was the um, what do you call it? Cheerleader, um, designated.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, was he the singer? Yes.

SPEAKER_02

He was too, wasn't he? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Was all ready to do. Opened the batting, opened the singing. Yeah, was all ready to do his underneath the southern the rubbish bin tap. Yeah. Whatever they do in front of you.

SPEAKER_00

Everybody joins in. And suddenly, Michael Clark.

unknown

Pop. Pop!

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god, I've forgot about that.

SPEAKER_02

That's worse than smudge. That is a hundred percent worse than smudge. God. Pop, oh my lord. Anyway. Is that just because he was in he was like a juvenile inferior copy of Ricky Ponty? Probably, yes. Okay. I'd say so. In every statistic. Pop decided that he wasn't gonna sing. Oh. And yeah. Hang on, did we win this test? Yes. Right. Well he should have.

SPEAKER_01

And he had a a prior engagement with a bingle. He decided he wanted a bingle.

SPEAKER_02

Her first name was Lara. He's had a few of those pre pre-juring and post-core. We could loop back and talk about her dirty ring, but we won't. No, we won't. So he had a small car accident. Did he? Well, yes.

SPEAKER_00

With Simon Katic in the dressing room, who decided that he was going to pin Clark up against the wall and absolutely yell blue thunder at him for not staying to sing underneath the Southern Cross.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, so can I clarify a detail or two here? Just for my own mind. Because I'm at this point thinking Simon Caddage is in the right at this point. Now, was Pup. I'm neither judge nor jury. No, no, no. I feel like if I'm saying Simon's right, I might be the judge at this point. So let's see if I can go jury. Yes. Was Pup at this time captain? No. Oh, well, no, screw it. Bad luck. And if he was captain, it's even worse. I agree. No, Simon's a hundred percent right. Yeah. Pin him up against the wall, because he's only a kid. Yeah. And tell him you're wrong. Yes. Sort your crap out, son. Priorities. Well, then the problem with that is that a couple of years later, when Pup became the captain, Catish's career. You seem to remember his career ended pretty abruptly.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. And they don't talk now, they're not friends.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I wouldn't be either if I was Simon, because Simon was right. Yes. And then he copped it in the proverbial.

SPEAKER_00

Apparently, Pup doesn't get on with any of those cricketers from that time anymore. And he doesn't attend reunions and things, but he does have nude fights with Carl Stefanovich drunk in a park.

SPEAKER_02

He does. Yes. Now. Now this is where this is where the the the jury comes in. Yep. If someone's beating up in a park, Carl Stefanovich. Yep. You can't blame them. Is he right or wrong? This is where it gets grey. Very, very grey. He might be right there. Yeah, I don't know. Maybe they it might be one of those crazy boxing moments where they both land at the same time and they both get knocked out. Yeah. And you go, oh, that's pretty cool. Yeah. That might be that moment. It might. It might well have been. Poor pup. Martin, you moving on. Yes. You had something else, didn't you? Mate, we've got so much. So much for Australia. Probably 20 minutes, I imagine. Yes. Yeah, easy. So NRL. 15 minutes. Let's roll through the NRL. It's one of the biggest sports in the country, and absolutely nothing interesting happened whatsoever. Okay. Broncos didn't play, so we can't laugh at that. Uh-huh. Penrith did, and they won. Yeah. Titans did, and they lost. Of course. St. George lost. Lost. Pretty much everyone that lost was meant to. Cranella Sharks. Oh, okay, so there might be a story. Go on. There might be a story. So Cranulla. Because they're my team. Are we aware of this? To the detail for you? No. Okay, so Cronulla. Cronulla took a trip from uh south of Sydney, had to come up here to the heat of Brisbane, and they had to play the Dolphins. Now, this is one of the rare games where the Dolphins don't play in Brisbane. Uh-huh. They play at their home in Redcliffe. Yes. And this is because the ground doesn't hold as many people, so they only hold the teams that have piss all fans. Yeah, yeah. Cronulla as one of them. Yeah. They don't have many fans. They're not a big club, and they're not going to travel. Yeah. So they're playing at home, they're thinking this is a team that's third on the table. People are talking them up. We are a serious premiership tilt for the Dolphins. Right. Cronulla said, I think we need to win this to make ourselves competitive. Yeah. 66 nil later. I know. Um, Cronulla said, Alright, we're done. See you later. We'll head back to Sydney. Was Ashley Klein there? No. He I don't think there was actually a ref that was needed, other than to keep blowing tries. Yeah. Like that. Oh my god, 66 nil. That's crazy. Yeah. I know. That's a Penriss style score against a good term. You're now fourth. Are you? Yes. You're still not serious. You're not real though. Yeah, I get the feeling. Yeah, you're not. There is that sense that you're not real. I know. But you can't do more than be fourth. Well, that's right. We can, I suppose you could be first. Yeah. Can't do more than fourth and they're going. I think so. Yeah. They're going really, really well. Everyone else is shite. Yeah, right. Apart from Penrith and uh Warriors. Are we able to switch codes? What would you like to go to? To local union. That was a little bit disappointing, wasn't it? Off you. I'm not a Wallaby supporter. Are you a French supporter? No. Is this Englishman next to me suddenly a supporter of France? No. But I'm not. Should I call you Napoleon from now to pat you on the head?

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely not. I have more than one ball for a start. I believe he was our Waterloo.

SPEAKER_02

Oh dear. What happened in Sydney, my good man? Well. Alright, well, that's enough of that. The wallabies.

SPEAKER_00

Let's go on to the comp games. The wallabies.

SPEAKER_02

Those little jumping around fairy animals again, which you also loved to call your sports teams. We've never called anybody. I was gonna say we've never called anybody a quawker. But I now think there is a quakker. Hang on a second. Australia led 21-12 at halftime. Ah, that's true. Against the frogs. That's a problem. And what did the wannabes do? The wannabes blew it and buggered it up. 21-12. Ouch.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. So the French turned it on the second half.

SPEAKER_02

Did were we with the wind in the first half?

SPEAKER_00

Against the wind in the second half? It could have been all load of wind.

SPEAKER_02

I friggin' hope so.

SPEAKER_00

But they are improving.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, we played a good half. Yes. Okay, is that better for us? Like Carlton. At the beginning of the season in the AFL. Oh, when they played like 15, 10 minutes better each week. Yeah. And still lost by a buttload. Yeah. Yeah. Ouch. So that's. Not a good place to be. England annihilated Fiji, but you'd expect them to do that. Oh yeah. I know. Yeah, Fiji are sensationally flashy. Yes. In moments. That's right. But they're not gonna. Nah. Nah. But uh South Africa. Where was that place? Way ahead. Not sure actually. I'll look at it. England Fiji. I think it's down here somewhere. Okay. And South Africa are miles ahead of us. The standard. Even o over New Zealand? Yeah. Wow. Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. New Zealand are still very, very, very good. Yep. But South Africa are a level above at that point in all areas of the can we can we call New Zealand the all fakes yet? Good. Well, they're only one team better than them, so they're probably not quite there yet. We'll have to, I think we have to win the Bladerslow before we can refer to them as fake. Right. Since we haven't done that since I think 1999. I think so. I'm pretty sure we have not won the Bladerslow this century. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. This is a painful scenario. Obviously. This is becoming America's Cup-ish. Never mind. Well, what do you mean, never mind? That is a never mind. What else have you got, Martin? Okay. Athletics. We got a little bit on the athletics. So what's been happening? As we approach the Commonwealth Games, we we need some Diamond League information. Now, as you people may not know, not everyone is competing in the Diamond League now from Australia or from the Commonwealth Nations because they're starting to taper for the com games that kick off in a week. A week, yes. Yes, yeah, only a week. However, over Paris and Monaco, the last two, we've had some interesting results from Australia. So Cam Myers is still going, he's run an Australian record for the 1500. I read that the other day. Yeah. 328 flat. Yep. Now, what's interesting about this is a fantastic winning Diamond League races, running Australian records. He's 20. Yeah. Now, normally the strength you need in 1500 doesn't kick into about 25. That's right. Yeah. So 20 years of age, it is incredible. Yep. Shout out to Sarah Billings. She's not well standard, but she did in Paris roll through an 800 in 157. Okay. So one of our most prominent 800 runners over our journey in the last, say, 30 years is Tams and Lewis, who then became Tams and Manu. She married. Somebody Manu. Yeah, who was the wicket keeper for South Australia.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I remember, yeah. Yes. Yes.

SPEAKER_02

I don't remember his first name. No, not me. Yeah. We'll just call him Mr. Manu as opposed to Mr. Magoo. She just decided he was a keeper. He was an absolute keeper. It's not work. Doesn't work today. It doesn't work. Your batteries are out. Well, you're pressing the wrong button there. There we go. Oh, he's made it work. Mr. Manu. So TAMZ, our probably for a long time, our greatest ever Australian 800 runner never actually broke the two-minute barrier. Yeah, right. Was a handful of tenths of a second outside it. There you go. And they're now rolling through 157 in this country. Yeah. Which is still three to four seconds off the elite. Yeah, of course. Yeah. But three seconds at that pace is about 25 meters. Yep. Yeah, yeah. For those who are listening. So it's a massive distance. Massive distance to make up. And then the big one, the big one in Monaco. Yes. Nina Kennedy. Right. She's completely. What's Nina done? She's overcome injury. Right. To win the women's pole vault. Yeah. So nice little synergy with Curtis. Yeah. Curtis Marshall winning everything. Oh yeah. Now Nina's back, ready for the Commonwealth Games. Yes. Now the reason this is big is because now she's overcome injury. She is the reigning Olympic champion. Ah. As well. So she's not just a ongoing well, she's a legitimate bona fide champion in this event. Yeah, yeah. And uh she's ready to go for the comp games. Oh. So bing bing, bring it on, Nina. What else have we got? We've got one of the greatest sports. Sorry, have you got a 5,000 metre run of that? We do, but he didn't do much. Craig Robinson. Right. He rolled it through. Monaco, good hit out. 1326. Yeah. But you've got to remember this is the guy that also broke a couple of weeks ago, broke Craig Motram's record at 1250. That's why I was asking. So 1326 is a. I know this is gonna sound weird. Yeah. It's a jog. Yeah. It's never been a jog for me. Yeah. But uh 1326 is a jog for Kai. I say thumbs up, Kai. Yeah. You're going well. Yeah, yeah. Uh BMX. Oh BMX. First of all, John, it's a sport. Did you know that? DMX. Other than the Olympics. Uh we're booming. BMX. So what more could you want in the world? Hang on, let me call this up. Here we go. BMX. What's happening? In Brisbane, 100 kilometres up the road, we have the BMX World Championships this coming weekend. Amazing. 17th to the 19th of July. Shall we go? Well, if we do, we have to sacrifice going to the Suns Bulldogs game. Oh, no, I think we should go. Which I think we should go to that. I think so. Because circling back last week to the Bulldogs fan of Scott Lyons, I'm pretty sure I'll check, but I'm pretty sure he'll be there. Yeah, okay. Try Scott's. Have a chat to Scott about loving them because they're your team. That's it. Not because they win. Exactly. So uh, but no, we'll we'll go with that. So I think we need to go there rather than Brisbane. Okay. Uh there this weekend. Who's the world champion in this event, Martin? Do we have a name here? Who knows? Honestly, we're gonna find this out as uh as we go. Yeah it's Friday to Sunday this weekend up in Brisbane. The World Cup events go across France, Netherlands, China, and the United States. Right. But this is the world championships. Yeah, okay. We have won medals in the Olympics here in Australia for BMXing, men's and women's. Who do we have further? So our biggest names in this. You ready for this? This is as Australian as you can get. We have a, you know, you could have what's the most common Australian name you can think of? Oh, I don't know. Brett. Okay, sorry, let's go female. Oh, okay. Lorraine, Laws, Sharon, yeah, Ellie. Maybe what's a good surname for an Australian. Smith. Yeah. Okay. Or it could be Seya Sakakubara. Well done. Saya Sakakubara. Now, one might think, what's she doing? Well, it's not what she's doing, it's what she's been doing since she won an Olympic gold medal. And she's just been riding BMX's and is ready to win a world championship. That's all she's all over it. Yes. Uh yep, so we are we are officially at Sports Bears. Yep. Say your fans. And we are gonna be on the Sayya bandwagon until Sunday night. Okay. And if she wins, we're permanently on the Saya bandwagon. Fair enough. If she loses, well, there's no participation in sportles here. We've got about three or four minutes left. Yeah, so say say as the the big ticket holder. Isaac Kennedy, Lauren Reynolds, we're all in. Good. Can I hit the crack? What do you got? What does that do? We are oh no. Oh no. We are hitting the crack, Martin. Hitting the crack. But you snorted the crack. Well, I've hit it as well. Oh, okay. Yes, I'm hitting it. So what a mess. It's like hitting the piss. It's the same thing. Okay, cheers. Cheers.

SPEAKER_00

Mad moments in Australian sport this week. What happened? Has any team in the history of any sport, and I don't know, lost when they were a hundred points up.

SPEAKER_02

Hundred points up and then lost. I can't think of many that would have. You have one though. Well it happened, didn't it?

SPEAKER_00

It did. It happened with Fremantle.

SPEAKER_02

Did it? Against Sydney. Well, it was close. It was uh yeah, Fremantle were pretty ordinary. In fact, if I'm not wrong, they didn't even How can they be?

SPEAKER_00

They were top of the bloody ladder or still on.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, and I believe they didn't kick a goal in the first half. That's right. So how has that happened? Well, they did kick 11 points. So they had some options. Yeah. But um yeah, it was pretty brutal. But what was the result in the it wasn't quite 100 points, obviously, but no. What was the result in the first time? So so essentially um uh Fromantle decided to not kick a goal in the first half and miss 11 times. But they're top of the they're top of the table. Yeah. Sydney brought the pressure. And who were at home? That's a bloody good question. Yeah. I think it was from I think it was From Antle, it was From Antle. Yeah. Yeah, it was it was over in the West. So they're at home and missed everything and and playing like a bunch of dogs. That's unbelievable. Yeah. Uh Sydney brought the pressure, stunned them all over the ground, massacred them, beat them into the ground, except in their forward 50. Yeah. Where they couldn't kick enough goals. Right. So in the time that Sydney had 11 shots, sorry, from Mantle, 11 shots on goal for 11 points. Yeah. Sydney had 13 shots on goal for 4-9. So they really didn't put them away. After halftime, John Longmire. John Longmire? No, Longmuir. Same thing. Uh closed, completely different people then. Um Longmuir had a bit of a chat to his team from Antle at halftime. And he said, guys, we need to do something about this. Yep. And uh Sydney just said, keep doing what we're doing. So after half time, Sydney came back out and they did better. To be fair, they kicked six goals four in the second half. Better than four-nine. Except Fremantle kicked 15-10. Yeah, right. Which in actual fact is 95 points and a half. Yeah. No, sorry, a hundred points and a half, which is unheard of. That is a full game score. Yes. In one half. And they've done it in a half. Yeah. And absolutely destroyed Sydney, who are second on the table. Yes, I know. Yes. It was probably one of the best games that Fremantle could have played. Well, there you go. Beaten up early, came back. Yeah, very, very good. But at un that should have been an unlosable game. Oh, well, I know. That's what I mean.

SPEAKER_00

Anyway, look, Martin, I think that could be all we have time for. Yeah, I reckon that's about it. It is. So, in the words of those immortal two Ronnies, it is good night from me.

SPEAKER_02

And it's good night from him. Good night.
