Interview with Ministry Leader Faith Grant

I just thank you for tuning in weekly and just our amazing guests that love the come on and just share what God's doing in their lives. And today I'm I'm really excited to be able to share a sister in Christ. Her name is Faith Grant. Faith Grant is a ministry leader and faith-based communicator with a deep love for Jesus and a heart for helping people experience healing, hope, and purpose. She's passionate about worship and music. She faithfully leads and directs her church's worship team each week, creating an atmosphere where people can encounter God in a genuine and meaningful way. Her ministry reflects a desire to honor God through service, encourage spiritual growth, and model authentic worship. In addition to leading worship, Faith serves as a youth director at her church and is currently pursuing licensure as a pastor. Faith lives in Massachusetts with her husband and four children, and she enjoys traveling, spending time in nature, writing music, painting, and making jewelry. So, Faith, how are you today? I'm doing great. I have questions because I'm sure other people do too. And I love that you wrote that you creating an atmosphere where people can encounter God in a genuine and meaningful way. That is so important in today's world where where things are. Yes, absolutely. And so why don't we let's do a little bit of a backtrack in where when did you start doing ministry? When did you feel like that calling on your heart to do, especially music ministry?

Yeah, so I actually just started about 10 years ago, I was called into

A Calling Confirmed Through Prophecy

youth ministry and began leading worship there. But as I was walking into God's calling in this, he reminded me of a time when I was about 16 years old, where I came up to an altar call. We had a guest speaker at our church, and he was praying over people and began speaking prophetic words and remembered that he had come to me, put my put his hand on my head, and had spoken to me that I was going to minister to people through music. So I was 16 years old, and I proceeded to ignore that calling for a long time. But God had brought me back to that just over maybe the past 10 years. It's been a journey of taking one step with the Lord, one step after another, and just taking that one step. And so I led the worship team with our youth group for a while, and then was invited to to join the main worship team. Just I played the keyboard and was kind of a backup vocal. And then a few years later, the music director at the time was time to leave, and they appointed me as the new music director, uh, just sort of out of the blue. And I was like, Lord, I don't even, I have, I don't even know how to do this or what this means, but I knew that God had invited me to do it. And so I just said yes, totally freaked out, didn't know what I was doing, but I knew that the Holy Spirit had me. And so it has been an amazing journey ever since. So I have been the worship director now for um, we're coming up on five years. Wow.

Praise the Lord. And I love that you shared with our audience just about how you first had that word at 16. You know, just that time period of waiting and just acknowledging, like when God speaks something over us and we can tap into that because just like we were praying before we came on live to record this, that you know, we never know what God's gonna do. Yet when he speaks it, it's always truth in our lives. And when we can recall these things, that's why a lot of times when I get a prophetic word, I like to write them down because you know, test and see, right? Does it align with scripture? Does it align with what's going on in our lives? You know, are we seeing the evidence of the things that are being moved about? And a lot of times what happens with us, even walking in faith, new faith believers too, is that he's got to wait for all the other components to align. And so it doesn't mean you know, even though it took years, like you said, it took many, many years to get to that place, and then it just happened, there was a lot of parts that had to open up. And and then we go back to time doesn't isn't the same in God's world, right? That's right. So I love that part. Thank you for sharing that part. I think that was important. So when you now you're doing this and you realize what part of you realize that there needed to be an atmosphere where people could encounter God in a genuine and meaningful way.

I think a lot of it really just had to do with the way that Jesus met with me each and every time that I spend a lot of time in worship outside of church. I mean, my my whole life, every every moment of the day, really I try to be conscious of the Lord's working in my life and who are you putting in front of me and and how am I honoring you, what I'm doing right now, my thoughts and my actions and the communication I have with people, and just the way that I offer myself to the Lord in a sacrifice of worship, the way that he meets with

me became so apparent that this is something that people really need because we get our hope. You know, we're we're in a society now that it just seems like people are so hopeless. And the the love of Jesus and the hope of of a future in Christ, really, as we as we worship and as we invite the Holy Spirit, invite the Lord to just come and have it our praise, really is where people can connect and meet with Jesus. And that is so important because it was so much what I relied on that I knew that other people needed it too.

And it is really important because I think a lot of times people lose that part when they come into church and they're looking for a place, and the atmosphere does need to be set appropriately, where they're not just coming into someplace that they're just singing songs, that they're coming in, and it's an atmosphere of worship that we're actually coming in to be a part of presenting worship to the King of Kings, you know, walking into the Holy of Holies, it when we can get into that spiritual setting, right? Because that's when that's when God's gonna minister to the hearts that need to be ministered to when he's invited into that place.

That's right, that's right. Yeah, and the one of the important things that as a worship leader, I think this is important to share, that I have to be vulnerable before the Lord. I have to be vulnerable in front of the people. I can't invite people to do something that I myself am not willing to do. And so I take it very seriously that that you know, people, if they can see me, you know, just being vulnerable before the Lord and and then they'll be more willing to to join in and they'll feel like, okay, I can I can do this too. It's not just, you know, it's not they're not just watching me sing or play an instrument on stage. You know, there's a real invitation to turn.

And and it it to me personally, it looks more tangible. Like I would look in it if I was there, I would say, well, if faith can get there, I want to get there. I want to get there where she's at because look where she's at. I want to get there, I want to be there. Lord help me get there, you know, so that then my then what I feel like I'm presenting as my part of my worship is genuine because I can get to that same place. That's beautiful. I love that faith. And so you also serve as the youth director at your church. Yes. That's exciting.

It really is. That was also I just love sharing these things because it really shows how God, you know, God's timing, like you already talked about, he is outside of time. His timing is always perfect. And we so I've always worked with the youth. I love, I love working with the youth. I've always had a heart for the youth. I was part of our youth group. I was a leader in our youth group for about 10 years before I became the youth director, never really sensing a calling to become a youth pastor or a youth director, just to kind of walk alongside other leaders. However, I my heart breaks for the youth. I have teenagers myself. I've had teenagers that have grown up. I just see a real need for just to share the love of Jesus with this generation, this now generation, lost souls, broken homes, lots of them dealing with mental illness, lots of anxiety, you know, all the things that they're struggling with, and just really wanting to walk alongside them because I too was a teenager who, you know, struggled and struggled with my identity. And I knew that God loved me, but

Creating A Real Atmosphere Of Worship

I didn't really walk that out and reaching for value. And so taking what I remembered of being a teenager and wanting to help others. It it was literally like six months ago, I think I was pointing and the Lord said, You are going to be the next youth director. Our youth directors, yeah, our youth directors have stepped down. I had never, I had never really thought about it at all. And I was like, okay, this sounds I this is not something I've thought about. And then it came up again, and I was like, okay, I mentioned it to my husband because I'm like, does this sound crazy? And he was like, actually, no, it doesn't sound crazy. And so the day my pastors were leaving for sabbatical, and as my senior pastor was walking out the door, I said one thing to pray about while you're on sabbatical. And I just mentioned, I said, if this is crazy, I'll take your word. But I feel like this is something the Lord's put on my heart to be the youth director. And he said, huh, not crazy, and I'm definitely gonna pray about that. And then when they came back from sabbatical, it was what does this look like? So there I go, and here I am.

I was thinking as you were speaking about that and how the Lord will use the worship part to help with that because I feel like worship is a place, you know, in today's society with youth and everything, with music and videos and everything they see, right? But that you how you've brought your heart from worship to a place where you really truly see that it needs to be a place that reflects desire to honor God, just like you wrote here, that they're gonna be able to understand what that means. And that they're gonna come into this place where they're gonna say, Oh, that's what that means. And with that, learning how to worship the King of Kings, they're gonna be able to get to that place. Even before some of the grown-ups in the church, they're gonna be like seeing these youth on fire for the Lord because they're gonna tap into that place where you've shown them that they can get to, because they don't know they can get there yet.

Yes. And so I can kind of see that happening, which you know how he does everything in order. Yes. You had to do this part first of learning why this worship needs to be genuine, because how can you teach youth if you don't know that yet? That's right. And a lot of times, you know, as youth we fall into oh, this song, it reminds me of my boyfriend, and then you know, they're singing this song, like, oh my god, and did you hear the Salt Lords? This is so like what's going what I'm going through right now, and they fall in love with this artist, and you know what I mean? And so they're gonna see, like, oh, wait a minute, this is another place that I can offer worship. You're gonna be able to teach them about secular music and the difference. That might be something that you need to start doing. Is okay, you know, I'm not gonna tell you you can't do this, but let me show you the difference.

Yeah, and I'm gonna be able to do that.

And a lot of times youth needs that, right? Because that's how the enemy likes to kind of steal the hearts of our youth and and even some grown-ups right now, right? He just he likes to lure them away with music. I'm even careful, Faith. You know, like a lot of times, I don't know if you've I'm sure you've seen this, where some people will take a song that is a secular song, and they just change the words to like they're singing to Jesus now. Yeah. And and I don't I'm I'm not real keen on that. I'm I'm kind of like, wait a minute, the music is what's taking me back to that era in my life, and you're just putting these words to it, so I'm not really lining it up to what Jesus is, I'm still lining it up to the era that I was in my life. That's right. Does that make sense to you? Absolutely. And so I'm kind of I'm not really keen on some artists that do that right now. Yeah. And I don't know if they realize that's what they're doing. I think that they're doing it to be like, well, I'll I'll just bring them in because the kids like that music, they like that sound, but then you're not really teaching them what you've learned to teach them. That's right, but so that's pretty powerful in itself, too. Wow. So can you share some things that have happened during worship? Or I know you're new with the youth, but maybe some exciting things that you see that happens during worship when everybody aligns their heart to God.

Yeah, absolutely. And as a matter of fact, we we had this just yesterday. So, in preparation for our conversation today. So, one thing that that we've noticed, and this is sort of more of a practical thing, it's it's not spiritual on the surface, but it is spiritual when you dig into it, is our congregation is not filling up all the seats in our in our sanctuary right now. And so we've been asking people to kind of move closer together. You know, people will tend to spread out, so they don't have to be involved in everything up close, but you know, we've been asking them to kind of come together and it's been great. They've been they've been doing it. And yesterday we asked them to. And before the service, we we pray as a team, the whole ministry team prays before service every week. And there was just a sense that God was already meeting people, you know, as they walked in the dorm and and really just sensing that that the Holy Spirit wanted to move and kind of just blow open some doors. And as we progressed through worship, like each song, it just each song it felt like people were coming closer together and there was an invitation to declare things the Lord would put on my heart to just say, we're gonna declare this together, or the Lord wants us to know this. And it was just making it so personal that God was in the room with us that I have never, it's been a long time since I have seen the engagement of everybody in the sanctuary singing or raising their hands or clapping or shouting yes and amen with their hands held high. And it was so powerful. It was like a blanket of immense love because God He inhabits our praises. And when everybody is praising together, it's so it's not heavy in a negative way. It's it's heavy and you you can't miss it way. And it was so powerful and it was really encouraging because you know there are times, especially as a worship leader, I think, when you're leading and you're looking out, trying to engage with people and see where people's at. You know, sometimes you look around and you think, is anybody, is anybody here? Is anyone with me at all? And it can be discouraging, right? Because as a leader, I can be completely like pressed in and you know, honoring the Lord with all my heart, soul, and mind, and maybe not everybody's there. And so it can be discouraging, like, okay, what are you know, what's going on here? So it's it's a good marker when the same body of Christ comes together and everybody has a part, and everybody it becomes the entire church is the worship team.

Yes, and then and then what else?

Yeah, it's not just the people on stage, it's the whole congregation.

Right, and they all become as one. And then when the pastor gets up to deliver his message, it means it's so much more meaningful, you know, because their hearts are prepared to hear what the Lord has prepared in his or her, you know, heart to deliver, right? Because even for us when we're up, you know, because I preach probably once every month.

Stepping Into Youth Leadership

I'm on a rotating. And so, you know, the same thing with us. When we get up there and you're looking out, you can tell if when they're engaged, you can tell when they're excited, you can tell when they're like just wanting each word that you're speaking, you know, and when you look out and you see some people are on their phones or they're just kind of getting up, they're going to the bathroom a lot, they're doing all these things, it it does. It makes you kind of lose where you're at for a second, but then you know, I have to bring myself back. No, wait a minute, Lord. I'm speaking your truth, even if it's to one. Father, if there's just one out here that needs to hear what you've prepared in my heart, then so be it, Lord. Just continue to flow through me as I speak this word, just to that one. Because, you know, I've taught myself, or the Lord has taught me that it doesn't have to be a full house, it doesn't have to be a whole audience. He just he loves after one and he loves so much after that one that you know, and when after church, when they'll come up to me and say, Oh my god, that message was right to what I needed to hear, then you know that was that one. When you can get your pastor to come up to you and say, Wow, that was good, and you're like, Okay, good job, Ramona. You did good. But you know, with the worship, it it is, it's it's kind of like you you have that creating that atmosphere in preparation for the Lord to then speak through the person that he's chosen to be the vessel at that time. And it's so it's so meaningful because then after church, then you have you know the ones that come up to the prayer team and things like that. And like yesterday, Pastor, our pastor Aaron, he's associate, but it was his turn to preach, and so worship was on, and he usually walks in the back as he's praising when everybody's worshiping, and he just fell to his knees. Like the Lord, he he spoke about it when he got up. He's like, uh the Lord just he just dropped me to my knees. And he said, you know, something's gonna be different today that that that something's gonna be different. And so I intentionally stayed after because I'm like, okay, I need to be up there praying with people that stay after. A lot of people just go on their way, but the ones that stayed, let me tell you, we got ministered too because I wanted something. You like my daughter call me, she's like, Mom, it's already 1:30. Are you on your way home? And I'm like, I'm not yet. I'm almost gonna leave until I get what I'm supposed to get at this table, right? Because I know the table was full, and I didn't want to miss out on that. Nothing's more important than that, so it's super exciting. Wow. Yeah, that's exciting. And so, what do you see, you know, going forward? With do you have like great plans and things that you're seeing that's gonna happen with the youth?

So I'm definitely this is funny because God, I've been I've been having this conversation with God recently because we're we're getting a lot of youth coming. Um we do like twice a month, we do youth events, which are like fun events, game nights. We might go like this week. We're going to play miniature golf and get ice cream. But we have a youth discipleship class on Sunday morning. So um three times a month, we do a youth discipleship class. And it's a video series that we've been walking through with great discussions. I've seen it's been amazing because I think the the youth were in service. We were doing youth group on Friday nights. The youth have been in service on Sunday mornings forever as long as I can remember. And as a team, we prayed and we we were discerning that the teens that were coming, though we have a couple who are who have been raised in church, but a lot of them are bringing their friends, and the friends are not church. And so we decided to do this Sunday morning thing where it's a discipleship video. We kind of walk through real life questions, we have deep discussions, we have a space for them to ask any question that they want to ask in the classroom. There are no dumb questions. You know, we just ask that they be respectful. And the questions that these youth have been asking have ministered to me. I mean, it has been amazing to watch these youth who won't talk to anybody about anything, you know, they're they're isolating in their bedrooms, but they come into this class and they want to know like, is God real? You know, does he still heal? Who is the Holy Spirit? Why do I need the Holy Spirit? You know, how do I walk through this life? How do I walk through my high school hallways with all this peer pressure and you know, still follow Jesus? And so many great questions. So I've really seen this opening where I mean, even parents are like, they don't talk this much at home. Like, I don't know what's going on in there. But and really it started with just relating to them, talking to them. I have a lot of youth that actually come and are friends with my kids and hang out at my house. And I'm always, I always have kids at my house. And I just love it because I don't, I don't even have to, I don't have to preach a sermon or talk about, you know, specifically a subject matter in the Bible, but I'm sharing God's love with them. I'm holding truth in every conversation we have and leading them to Jesus, even if they don't know it yet, that, you know, just by being available and listening and supporting and letting them know that I love them, I have I have said to youth, even in a hard conversation, I'm having this conversation with you because I love you, and tears have fallen from their eyes. And the Lord has shown me that there aren't people in their lives telling them that they love them. And so I just I don't know what it's going to look like. And at times I feel like it's a slow process. Like, you know, we want to see our youth program grow. We want, we want, I would love the entire community to

Teaching Discernment In Music Choices

to show up, right? You know, that and and and be a part of what we're doing. But it's a it's a process, and and God is showing me that one by one, you know, it's hard to minister to a lot of people in depth at once and these one-on-one relationships, and as God brings them one by one and we have these meaningful conversations, that it will grow. I love them. Yeah, and not to not to push it, not to worry about it. Just the Lord spoke to me very clearly just last week that my calling, what he's asked me to do is to love the people that he puts in front of me.

And that's in my church, that's in the community, that's when I pick the kids up from school, that's at a soccer game, at the grocery store, wherever it is. My calling, because of the love that Jesus has poured into me, is to love them with that same love and not get caught up in the programs and not get caught up in the spaces. So that was a huge sort of relief, I guess. You know, so I don't I don't have to count, you know, the numbers. I'm just doing what the Lord has asked me to do.

And you know, it kind of goes back to what what I read in your bio about encountering God in a genuine, meaningful way. Because you've learned how to do that and he's allowed you the time to really bring fruit into that, that is what they need. They need to learn how to encounter God in a genuine way. Because right now, there's so many youth that don't even know how to encounter human beings in a genuine way, they don't know how to get to a genuine heart. What does that mean? You know, I don't feel loved, I don't feel none of this. So if you have already learned yourself how to worship and encounter God in that genuine way, now you can then impart that on them. And I the other thing, as you were speaking, I was thinking about vision that you know, a lot of our youth they don't have that vision. What would this look like to serve a God I don't see?

Where would that take me and what would that look like? And I don't know if you've ever thought about doing and teaching them how to make a vision board and just having these big poster boards and getting magazines and teaching, you know, create, fill in this whole board of things that they foresee, like pray before you glue it on, pray before you write it up, and then have them present it like this is what I, this is my vision, this is what I would, this is what my heart of heart sees. And then have them keep that in and keep looking back at that, like a favorite scripture. Maybe you just learned this one and why is that important? Or, you know, maybe you see yourself a career, maybe they don't know like God has already imparted them what they're gonna do because yeah, they're part of that next generation. We're gonna soon be gone and they're gonna carry that torch. But what is it that God's gonna want them to do when they learn how to encounter him in a genuine way? Because he's gonna tap into the visions that they have, he's already given them plans and purpose, but they don't know how to get there, faith. And because he's taught you how to get there, and now you see that. Now you have a great gift to give that to them. Let me show you how to get there.

No, yeah, and I I've done it before with like juvenile hall kids and and and they're just amazed. And some of them, like, they'll like if I see them a couple years later and they still have it, you know. We where I'm like, I remember when we did this and you spoke this over me, and guess what I'm doing now? You know, because they don't realize that when they stop, you say a prayer over them and they stop, and then they they like, oh, I see I see a house, and this is what my house looks like. I'm gonna look for a picture that looks like this, and then they cut out this picture, they put it on their vision board, and you know, they see themselves as an engineer. I'm gonna write the word engineer, and then and then they look back and they realize, oh my god, like that's what my house is gonna look like, you know. I love that, I love that. Yeah, because they don't understand that there's an inner vision already in them, they don't understand how to tap into that, and then that's how you can also let them know that's how the Holy Spirit works. He speaks to you in those visions. Like you might wonder, like, how can I hear from God? How do I hear from God? Because I don't know who he is. And you teach them just you're gonna encounter him, and you're gonna encounter him in a genuine way, and this is how he's gonna show you that he he hears you and he sees you, and this is what he's gonna bring forth. So, yeah, super exciting. I'm excited.

When Worship Unifies The Room

to see how that pans out because yeah, I think it would be a fun. And so what I did because it's so hard because so many people don't have magazines these days, but if you can start having your church adults like start bringing in stacks of magazines, and then and then you make it just kind of be like maybe like your weekly thing, like, okay, everybody just take a stack, you get some glue sticks, get some scissors, they each get a vision board, and I can send you some samples of some so that you have those, and then you kind of say this is kind of like what they would look like, and then you know, you keep all their cuttings and everything, like they don't glue them on until they fill up their board, and then and then they keep them all in an envelope, and then probably like by the fourth or fifth week, okay, I think we're ready to lay these out and glue them, right? And so, yeah, it would be exciting. I think that they would do really good with that, and it would line up exactly where your heart is for your youth.

Well, it's interesting because I spent most of my life, well, my adult life as an interior designer. So I'm very familiar with vision boards, design boards. Perfect. So I I could definitely lead them through that.

SPEAKER_02 33:15

Perfect. I love it. I love it. Well, Faith, you know, we're getting close to the end, and I just I love your heart. I love that we get to talk about what how important worship is. And you know, what would you say to somebody out there that maybe is on a worship team or maybe maybe would like to find out how do I how do I get to that genuine place of worship?

SPEAKER_00 33:41

Yeah, I would say in with everything, with anything that you're called to do, it starts with your relationship with Jesus. Being in the Word every day, praying, praying for others, you know, inviting the Holy Spirit into every part of your life, because it has to be ingrained within you. And you're, you know, keeping your eyes on Jesus, not on the ministry. When when we take our eyes off Jesus and start putting it into the things that we're doing, even though they're good things, even if they're ministry things, if that becomes the goal and not relationship with Jesus, it can be a real struggle. So I would I would really say to make sure that your life, your spiritual life is intact and you're you're taking time to be with Jesus. I actually, with our team, I do a soaking prayer time before every practice. So I invite people for 30 minutes. We just have quiet music, no words, no lyrics to just come before we even take stage and just be with the Lord, whatever that needs to look like, that it's your time to seek the Lord and just be in his presence. And that is key to all of it because we can't be vulnerable, we can't be, you know, all in if there's a piece of us that that hasn't paid attention to what the Lord wants to do.

Amen. Those are good words. And maybe you're listening and you're maybe you feel like your heart is away from the Lord, or maybe you feel like you haven't given him as much as you'd like, or or maybe you've never even encountered the Lord. Maybe you're just popped in and you're wondering what are these two ladies talking about, and you don't know who Jesus is, or maybe you've heard of him, but you don't understand how you can meet him. And it's about having a relationship with the Lord, the one who created you, and and it's very biblical, and he wants to be your savior, and he wants to help you to have hope. And and maybe you've feel like I've done so many things that are wrong, and we all have. I continuously I'm a sinner until I'm gonna be with him in heaven, that's when I won't sin anymore. And so we just learn, faith and I learn how to ask him for forgiveness. And then when we ask for forgiveness, that's the word repent. We repent of our sins. That means we won't do it again. We don't go back and do it, we just don't do it again. We try our hardest not to, and eventually we don't like we learn how to not, you know, my vices that I had in drinking and smoking and cursing and doing things that I normally wouldn't do, I was doing, but then little by little, those things the Lord just kind of helps you where you don't anymore. And then you walk

along with him. It's like he's your best friend, and you ask him, come into my life, help me to overcome these things. And if you have a church, you know, you go to church, then you learn how to worship in that genuine way that Faith was talking about. You listen attentively to the pastors that are speaking, because normally that word is probably for you when you walk in the door. There's always a word for somebody when you walk in that door. Maybe you're not comfortable walking into a church yet. He'll meet you right where you're at. If you just talk to him and say, God, show me that you're real. Come into my heart, forgive me of my sins, and help me to live this life right. Because in the in the world that we live in today, there's so much confusion. There's so many lost people they don't know. They think they're the ones in charge of their life, and that's not what life was about. He created you for a reason and a purpose and a vision, like what I was talking about. And there is a vision and a plan for your life. It's just coming to him and allowing him to be a part of your life. And so we would invite you to do that and just pray with us. I'm gonna have Faith pray for us as we close right now. And so, Faith, thank you so much for this time. And I'm super excited about your new calls and callings for the Lord and what he's gonna have you do and the youth. And I'm super excited.

Lord, we love you. We thank you, God, for your presence. Lord, we thank you for the truth that you do have good plans for us, Lord. That that before we were even formed, Lord, that you knew us, that you formed us, that you had plans for our future, and that those plans are good plans, Lord. And we thank you, God, that that your plans do not have anything to do with our timing or our desires and when those things happen, Lord, but that we can trust in you to help us walk those things out. And Lord, I pray for each and every person that is listening, Lord, that that whatever is stirring in their heart, if there's if you're stirring something in their heart, God, that that's something that you have called them to do, Lord, that they would, that they would pay attention to that, Lord, that they would become sown into that, Lord, that they would begin to walk with you and pray and invite the Holy Spirit and to lead them into that. God, and I pray for those who are listening, Lord, who may not have that relationship with you and don't understand, Lord, that you would reveal yourself to them even through the conversation that we had today, Lord, that it would spark something inside, Lord, the spirit that would say, I want to know this God who has good plans for me, that that wants to give me a hope in a future, and that he has good things for us to do. with us, even though we fall away and we don't always follow closely with you, Lord, that you always call us back, that you always do forgive us, and that your plans for us don't go away because we don't follow you exactly the right way.
