A royal balcony. A wave to the crowd. And for a single frame, a man at home swears the monarch's eyes weren't human. He rewinds it. Plays it again. And a thought takes hold he'll never shake: what if they aren't us?

Tonight Mark and Grim chase the most mocked — and somehow most immortal — conspiracy theory of the modern age: that the royal bloodlines aren't human at all, but shape-shifting reptilians from the Draco constellation, wearing our skin to rule us. We trace it back to David Ike and his 1991 fall from grace, through the ancient serpent gods that haunt every human myth, into the "glitching royals" videos, and out to the cosmic odds of it all actually being true.

We also tread carefully where it matters: the rumours around Diana, weighed honestly against what the exhaustive official inquiry actually found — and a hard line drawn against the genuinely ugly tropes some versions of this theory smuggle in. Because there's a kernel of something real here.

So why won't a theory apparently this debunked ever die? Maybe because the lizard was never the point. Maybe it's just easier to picture a monster than a system, such as this.

The crown mayn't be cold-blooded. That's exactly what makes it dangerous.

From the shadows. Stay curious. Stay sceptical. And stay warm-blooded out there. And we will catch you again, somewhere in time...

Remember to follow the show, so you never miss an episode. Smash us a five star review, the team will appreciate it.

Welcome to the Shadows. You're listening to Lizards in the Palace.

SPEAKER_05

A royal balcony, a summer's day, a crowd of thousands waving little paper flags, and a television audience of millions watching a monarch raise one gloved hand in that famous practiced wave. And then, for a single frame, something happens, the footage flickers, and a man at home, leaning toward his television, freezes the picture and swears that for just one moment the monarch's eyes were not human. Vertical pupils, a flicker of scales along the jaw, a cold ancient lizard stare, looking back out through the crown. He rewinds it, he plays it again, and a thought takes hold of him that he will never, ever be able to shake. What if they aren't us? Welcome Shadow Dwellers to the Evident Conspiracy Files. I'm Mark Mayhew, and tonight we investigate what might be the most outrageous, the most mocked, and yet somehow the most stubbornly immortal conspiracy theory of the modern age. That the people, at the very top, the crowned heads, the royal bloodlines, are not human beings at all. That they are shape-shifting reptilians, wearing human skin like a costume, and have been ruling us from behind those cold, unblinking eyes for a very, very long time. It's absurd. It's ridiculous. It's been laughed out of every serious room on Earth. So why won't it die? Tonight, we travel through the shadows until the tinfoil catches fire.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, I have been waiting for this one, you warm-blooded little snack platters. It's me, Grim. And tonight is, without question, my favorite episode we have ever recorded. Because tonight we're talking about lizards, royal ones, in hats. Hello, you soft mammalian sacks of room temperature gossip. Now I want to manage your expectations, because this episode is going to be a bit different. Usually I'm here cackling about how the powerful are monsters. Tonight, some of you actually believe they're monsters, literally, with scales, and honestly, bless you, never change. Because here's the thing that delights me to my marrow. I have personally collected a great many kings and queens over the centuries, escorted them right off the premises, and I can confirm, hand-on, where my heart used to be. Not one of them turned into a lizard. They all turned into exactly the same thing, you will. But we're not here for my memoirs. We're here to ask, could the crown be cold-blooded? Slither this way, mortals. But let's face it, if they are lizard people, they will never say a word. You wouldn't know. Though, there may be some that speak out, but they'll get silenced, I'm sure.

SPEAKER_05

Let's lay out the claim in full, because to investigate something fairly, even something this wild, you have to state it at its strongest. The theory goes like this the world's most powerful bloodlines, and the British Royal Family, the House of Windsor, sits right at the centre of the chart, are not fully human. They are reptilian humanoids, or human reptilian hybrids, originating from somewhere else. Another star system, often named as the Draco constellation, or another dimension entirely. They can shape shift. In their natural state they are tall, cold-blooded, and scaled, but they project, or wear, a human form to move among us and to rule. They hold the thrones, the central banks, the great institutions, and they glitch, the human disguise flickers under stress, under bright lights, under the unblinking eye of a camera, which is when, believers say, the truth leaks through, a slitted eye, a scaled cheek, a reptile blinking out from behind a human face. Now. Your instinct is to laugh, mine too, but this show's whole job is to walk into the ridiculous and ask calmly, alright, what would actually have to be true for this to be true? And where did such an extraordinary idea even come from?

SPEAKER_00

Shapeshifting interdimensional lizard royalty. Mark, I want you to know I'm taking notes, because this is the best cover story I've ever heard, and I'd like one. Think about it from the lizard's point of view, you gormless giblettes. You're an ancient, all-powerful, dimension-hopping reptile overlord. You can be anything, and you choose to be the king of England, to stand on a cold balcony in the drizzle, shaking hands, cutting ribbons, opening garden centers. Mate, if I had shapeshifting powers and a galactic empire, I would not be spending my Tuesdays unveiling a plaque in Swindon. The reptile agenda needs a new careers advisor.

SPEAKER_05

So where did it come from? For that, you need one name, David Icke. In the 1980s, Icke was about as mainstream as it gets in Britain, a professional footballer until Arfhritis ended his career, then a well-known BBC television sports presenter, a familiar, trusted face in the nation's living rooms, and then in the early 1990s came one of the most extraordinary moments in British broadcasting history. Ike went on a primetime chat show, The Wogan Show, 1991, dressed largely in turquoise, and announced, among other things, that he was a son of the Godhead and made a series of predictions about the world. The studio audience laughed at him. Openly, the clip became infamous. Overnight, one of the country's most recognizable presenters became its most ridiculed man. But Ike didn't stop. He went deeper. He travelled, he wrote, he developed an enormous and intricate worldview. And in 1999, he published the book that lit the fuse on tonight's episode, The Biggest Secret. In it, he laid out the reptilian thesis in full that blood-drinking reptilian beings from the Draco constellation had hijracked the Earth in the distant past, and that the elite bloodlines, the royals among them, are their vessels. Ike has stated, many times and on the record, that he means this literally, not as metaphor, literally.

SPEAKER_00

You have to hand it to the man, you twitchy little nerve bundles. That is a career pivot. One day you're reading the football results, the next, you're announcing you've cracked the interdimensional lizard cabal running the planet. There is no HR department on Earth equipped for that conversation. And I'll say this for David Ike, with genuine professional respect. The sheer magnificent commitment. The whole country laughed in his face on live tele, the kind of public humiliation that would send most of you mammals into a hole forever. And he just kept going. For thirty odd years, sold millions of books, filled arenas. You can call the man a lot of things, but you cannot call him a quitter. Most of you give up on a gym membership by February. He built a global empire out of the worst night of his life. There's a dark little lesson in that flesh bags, and I'm not entirely sure what it is.

SPEAKER_05

But here's what's genuinely fascinating, and why the theory has roots that go far deeper than one nineteen nineties book. Ike didn't invent the serpent, he plugged into something ancient. Look across human mythology, anywhere on earth, and you'll find the serpent and the dragon coiled around our oldest stories, almost always tied to power, to gods, to forbidden knowledge. The ancient Sumerians had the Anunnaki, sky gods sometimes depicted in serpentine terms. The Mesoamericans worshipped Quetzalkatal, the feathered serpent, in the book of Genesis. It's a serpent that offers humanity forbidden knowledge. There are serpent deities in India, dragon emperors in China who literally sat on a dragon throne, snake gods in Africa, in Australia, in the Americas. Why? Why does this one image, the powerful reptile, the serpent that knows things, appear in cultures that never met all over the world? Ike's answer is thrilling and simple, because it's a memory, a genuine ancestral memory of the reptilian overlords preserved in myth. The mainstream answer is different, and honestly, just as interesting, that primates like us evolved over millions of years to instinctively fear snakes. They were a lethal threat, and so the serpent became our species' universal symbol of danger, power, and the uncanny. Either way, the reptile was waiting in humanity's subconscious long before David Icke. He just gave it a crown.

SPEAKER_00

Now this bit I actually love, because it's true and it's tragic and it's a little bit funny. You lot are hardwired to be scared of snakes. Show a baby a spider or a snake, and the little dumpling tenses up before it even knows what fear is. Millions of years of your ancestors getting bitten in the long grass, baked right into the software. So along comes a story that says, The things you rule by, the things at the top, are secretly the scary slithery thing. And some deep lizard brain part of you goes, Yeah, yeah, that tracks. It bypasses your common sense and pokes the oldest fear you've got. That's not stupidity, you sausages. That's just very, very old wiring being played like a fiddle. The serpent's been the boogeyman since before you could talk. Ike just put it on a throne and sold tickets.

SPEAKER_05

So let's look at the so-called evidence, because this is where the theory actually lives and breeds today. Online, in video. The flagship proof is the glitch footage. Clips endlessly shared that appear to show royals and politicians' eyes changing shape or colour mid-speech, a flash of a vertical, reptilian pupil. Moments where a face seems to ripple or distort. Frames where something just looks wrong. And I'll be straight with you because we don't insult you here. The overwhelming majority of these have ordinary, boring, provable explanations. Its paridolia, the brain's habit of finding faces and patterns in noise. The same thing that shows you a man in the moon. Its red eye and reflection from camera flash, its video compression artifacts, digital footage, smears and stutters when there's fast movement, mangling a frame for a split second. It's interlacing glitches in older video. It's in plenty of cases deliberate editing. Someone sat at a computer adding a lizard eye for clicks. In the cold light of analysis, the shape-shifting videos fall apart every single time. But and this is the engine of the whole phenomenon. In the conspiracy lens, a debunking isn't an answer, it's the cover-up. Of course they say it's a compression artifact, that's exactly what a lizard would want you to think. Once you're inside the theory, the lack of evidence becomes evidence. And that, Shadow Dwellers, is a perfect, sealed, self-feeding loop. However, this episode isn't to try and debunk David Icke. In fact, deep down, I personally think he's right, but with the limited evidence, some of which can't be debunked. Apart from just saying that isn't real, it remains possible, just very unlikely.

SPEAKER_00

A camera smudges one frame of an old lady waving, and somewhere a man in a dressing gown goes, Aha! Scales! I love you, mammals, so much. Here's my favorite part of the glitch logic, you credulous canopes. The reptile overlords are supposedly so advanced, they've crossed dimensions, infiltrated every throne, and fooled the entire human species for thousands of years. But they can't get through trooping the color without their face buffering like a dodgy live stream. That's not a master race, my darlings. Sorry, my fleshbags. That's a premium villain with a free tier disguise. Upgrade your camouflage, you cheap lizards, the Wi-Fi's letting you down.

SPEAKER_05

Now every great conspiracy needs witnesses, insiders, people who claim to have seen behind the curtain, and the reptilian theory has a few. Though I want you to weigh them as carefully as I'm going to present them, the key figure is a woman named Christine Fitzgerald. She was by her own account a healer and a close confidant of Princess Diana, and she told David Icke something that became the beating heart of this whole theory. That Diana privately referred to the royal family as the lizards or the reptiles, and Fitzgerald claimed, that Diana meant it literally, not as an insult about cold distant people, literally, that Diana believed, or had somehow learned, that they were not human. Then there's Arizona Wilder, who claimed to have witnessed and even officiated at elite rituals, where powerful figures shape shifted. And in the biggest secret, Ike cites anonymous sources, including two British people, he says personally, witnessed royals in reptilian form. Here's the honest weighing, every one of these accounts is unverified. They are secondhand or anonymous. Or both. Christine Fitzgerald's claim about what Diana really meant is precisely the kind of thing that can never be checked, the one person who could confirm or deny it was gone. There is no credible, named, senior member of Royal Household staff who has ever come forward with proof. What we have is testimony from the very fringe, repeated and amplified until it sounds like a chorus. That's not nothing, but it's a very long way from evidence.

SPEAKER_00

Is, I have to tell you, not the ironclad witness testimony you want when you're accusing the crown of being an alien reptile. And notice the convenient design, you twitchy mortals. Every witness either can't be named, can't be checked, or conveniently quotes a dead woman who can't pop back to say, I meant they were cold, you lunatic, not literally cold-blooded. Funny how the proof is always one unprovable step away. It's turtles all the way down. Or lizards, I suppose. Same energy.

SPEAKER_05

And now we have to slow down and tread very carefully, because the theory leans hard on a real tragedy and a real woman, and she deserves better than to be a punchline. Diana, Princess of Wales. In the reptilian version of events, Diana is the martyr. The story goes that she knew the terrible secret, she'd seen the truth of the lizards, and that she was about to expose it all, and so she was silenced in the Paris underpass in August 1997, just before Ike's book would blow the whole thing open. And I'm not going to pretend there's nothing real underneath the rumours, because there is, and you'd catch me hiding it. Diana genuinely did by several accounts fear for her safety. There are documented notes, one written to her butler, one recorded by her lawyer, in which she expressed a fear that someone wanted to harm her, specifically that a car accident might be arranged. That's real, that happened, and to a grieving public, the speed and the shock of her death made the official story feel impossibly small. But here is where this show parts company with the fantasists, because we owe you the truth, even when it's less exciting than the legend. Diana's death was investigated more exhaustively than almost any death in modern history. The British police ran Operation Page, an 800-page report, a team of detectives, nearly three years of work evaluating over 170 separate conspiracy claims, given unprecedented access to the files of MI5 and MI6. And then a full coroner's inquest lasting six months. In 2008, the jury delivered its verdict, unlawful killing caused by the grossly negligent driving of their own driver, Henry Paul, who was intoxicated and speeding, and of the paparazzi who chased them. No reptiles, no ME6 hit, no royal assassination order. And tellingly, both of Diana's sons publicly accepted that verdict. And even the man who had spent a decade and a fortune alleging a murder conspiracy, Dodi Fayed's father, finally said he would accept it too.

SPEAKER_00

I'm going to put the jokes down for just a minute. I do that sometimes, when it's earned, and this is earned. Diana was a real person, not a symbol, not a martyr in someone's lizard fan fiction. A real living woman, two young sons, frightened and hunted in the last years of her life by very human predators with very real cameras. And she died young and terrified in a tunnel, and the whole world cried. And I was there as I always am. There was nothing cold-blooded about it. It was just unbearably ordinarily human. A drunk man driving too fast away from a pack of jackals, turning that into a bit of interdimensional theater, making that poor woman a prop in a story about scaly aliens. Isn't edgy, you know. It's just unkind to the two boys who lost their mum. So we'll tell it straight, and we'll let her be a person. Right. Jokes back in a minute. But that one I meant.

SPEAKER_05

And while we're being straight, let's clear one more name, Henri Paul, the driver. The conspiracy needs him to be more than he was. In the murder version, he's recast as a secret intelligence asset, an MI6 plant, a man placed at that wheel to carry out an assassination. It's a far more thrilling story than the possible truth. The truth, or so we are told, is established by the investigations. This is sadder and more mundane. Henri Paul was the Ritz Hotel's deputy head of security. On the night, his blood alcohol level was around three times the French legal limit with prescription drugs in his system, and he was driving at high speed to escape the paparazzi. His contacts with French police were the perfectly normal ones any senior hotel security man would have. Operation Padret, with full access to the intelligence services, found no evidence whatsoever that he worked for MI6 or anyone like them. He wasn't a secret agent. He was an impaired man who apparently made a catastrophic decision and three people died for it. Not every tragedy is a plot. Sometimes it's just a tragedy, and that's almost harder to sit with. However, could he have been paid off? Was the whole thing a lie? Especially when Diana thought she might be taken out. Could this just have been a tragic coincidence? Now before we go any further, I need to do something this show will always do. I need to draw a hard line, because this particular theory has a dark basement, and we are not going down there tonight. When you follow the reptilian story, past the fun stuff, past the glitchy videos and the cosmic lizards, you find that some versions of it curdle into something genuinely poisonous. Talk of secret bloodlines controlling the world's banks and media, of a hidden cabal that drinks blood in rituals, of a shadowy network with certain old family names attached. If those notions make the back of your neck prickle, it's because you've heard them before. They are, in many cases, ancient libels in a new costume. The blood drinking ritual is the medieval blood libel, and historians and watchdogs have pointed out, again and again, that the reptilian wrapper can function as a way to launder hatred, to say the unsayable, while claiming you only mean lizards. So let me be completely clear about where the ECF stands. We will happily chase a shape-shifting lizard around Buckingham Palace. That's also deemed folklore. That's fun, that's harmless. But as some have done, we won't use it as a tool for hate and get away with it because we call the class of people lizards. Lizards are real, lizard-looking people from another planet. Well, it's possible, unlikely, but possible.

SPEAKER_00

Right, let's lift the mood and have some proper fun with the part of my brain that loves this stuff. Let's play with the cosmic odds. I can only reap our galaxy, and the number of them is absolutely bloody enormous. Yet many of you earthlings believe you're the only advanced physical beings out here. Yeah. And I'm SpongeBob with a scythe.

SPEAKER_05

Because here's a place where the conspiracy crowd and the scientists actually shake hands for a second. Is there advanced life somewhere out there in the universe? The universe is about 13.8 billion years old. There are something like 10,000 billion billion stars, a one with 22 zeros after it. And we now know planets are everywhere, so the odds that life, even intelligent life, exists somewhere out in that immensity. Honestly, pretty reasonable. A galaxy-brained reptilian species evolving on some distant world is not by itself a mad idea, but now stack up what this specific theory actually requires, that such a species exists, and crossed interstellar distances or dimensions to get here, and chose Earth, and can biologically shape-shift into flawless human form, and infiltrated one specific royal family and other elite bloodlines, and has remained perfectly undetected for thousands of years, except for the occasional camera glitch or someone apparently blowing a whistle before meeting their maker. And they're doing all this to harvest negative energy from human fear, for which there is no known physics, no mechanism, nothing. Emotions aren't a fuel you can pipe off. Well, to our knowledge, anyway. If we look at this from a conspiracy lens perspective, the universe is energy, we are energy. But let's also look at our known science. Each and multiplies the improbability. One reasonable idea, chained to a dozen unreasonable ones, until the whole thing collapses under its own astronomical unlikelihood. But not impossible aliens. Maybe, somewhere. King Charles, being one of them, running on the fumes of your nightmares. The maths says, don't hold your breath.

SPEAKER_00

I do enjoy this bit because the odds are doing comedy all on their own. There might be aliens somewhere in a universe with a billion trillion stars. Sure, reasonable, I'll allow it. And they're specifically the Windsors, and they eat your sadness. And there it goes, sailing off the cliff of probability, with its little arms flapping. You started with a lottery ticket and ended up betting the house that the winning numbers spell out your Nan's birthday. Backwards. In Draconian. And the fear harvesting thing genuinely tickles me. If misery were a power source, you mortals would have solved the energy crisis with a single Monday morning. Trust me, if there were a way to run an empire on human dread, I'd have monetized it millennia ago and retired to a nice beach. That said, they have by some accounts caused misery through the WEF, the unelected globalists' policies. If you did want to make people's lives harder and try to piss them right off for your lunch, well, WEF policies is where you start. Then increase the people's taxes. You have your dinner. A quick and pointless war for dessert. Why not?

SPEAKER_05

So why does it survive? That's the real mystery of tonight. Not whether the queen was a lizard, but why a theory refuses to die. And the answer is more interesting than scales. It survives because it's built around a kernel of something true. Strip away the reptiles. And what's the theory really saying? That a tiny, hereditary elite holds enormous power, that they live behind walls, protected by secrecy and deference, and institutions we're not allowed to fully see inside. That they've been caught over the years in real scandals and real cover-ups. That the gap between their world and ours is so vast they might as well be another species. Every one of those feelings is legitimate. The monarchy is opaque. The powerful do hide things. Trust in institutions is low, and often for good reason. The reptilian theory takes all that real, justified, free-floating distrust and gives it a face. A simple, vivid, shareable, monstrous face. It's so much easier to picture a literal lizard than to grapple with the boring, complicated machinery of inherited power and privilege. The lizard is a metaphor that got tired of being a metaphor and decided to become literal. And in a world of viral video and collapsing trust, a literal lizard travels a lot faster than a nuanced critique ever could. But it does beg a question. They deem themselves as a sovereign leader over the stake. And that leader depends on the order their predecessor had sex and that they were born. That doesn't make them clever or the right person to lead to reign over you. It seems in years of late, people have started to question surrendering their power to these people. To many people now, people who are struggling. They no longer wish to fund the wealthy's lifestyle, especially when there are links to Epstein's Island and cover-ups. When these people continue to give themselves a pay rise while you get a reduction, I can see why people class them as alien.

SPEAKER_00

That's the likely truth of it, you clever little sausages. And it's almost poetic. The lizard isn't likely real. But the feeling that made the lizard, that's real as a heart attack. You'd probably have if one of these snakes morphed in front of you, screaming, Boo! Something in your gut looks up at the crowns and the palaces and the unimaginable inherited sex wealth and goes, Those people are not like me. They might as well be a different creature. And you're not wrong about the feeling fleshbags. You're just probably wrong about the reptile. The cage is real, the bars are real. People just drew a dragon on them, because a dragon's easier to point at than a system. Don't hunt the lizard mortals. Just in case we're wrong. You might go missing. Read the contract the lizard's distracting you from. The more research you do, you start to question everything.

SPEAKER_05

So here's where we land tonight, Shadow Dwellers. There could be shape-shifting reptilians on the throne, but it's very unlikely, and there's no genetic evidence, no biological mechanism we know of, no credible living witness, and no physics for the fear harvesting we can test, though we can monitor with some technology, but we are a long way off of feeding physically from emotion. The videos likely artifacts and edits, the whistleblowers are unverifiable. And Diana died in a tragic investigated car crash, not a reptilian assassination, and she deserves to be remembered as the human being she was. Should any dusty file be released in the future, those responsible should be held to account. But don't mistake, the lizards aren't real for go back to sleep, because the instinct underneath the theory, the refusal to simply trust that the powerful have your best interests at heart, the insistence on asking what happens behind those palace walls, that instinct is healthy. That's not the lizard talking, that's the citizen talking. The trick, the whole trick, is to keep the scepticism and drop the scales. Question power relentlessly, but follow evidence, not nightmares. Demand transparency, but don't let anyone sell you a monster to stop you seeing the man behind corruption. The crown isn't cold-blooded, Shadow Dwellers, but it would quite like you looking for lizards instead of looking at the books.

SPEAKER_00

Right. You warm little waving flags of meat, last thought, and then off you pop to squint suspiciously at the telly. After several thousand years on the job, I can give you the only confirmed intelligence on royal biology you will ever need. I've collected every kind of king and queen there is: fat ones, mad ones, cruel ones, kind ones, and on the way out, not one of them sprouted scales, flicked a forked tongue, or asked to be returned to Alpha Draconus. They all did the exact same thing. They got old, they got frightened, and they came with me in a carry cage, identical to the lowliest peasant in the kingdom. That's the conspiracy, you mortals, and it's the best news you'll hear all week. In the end, the crown comes off, and underneath it's just another mammal, just as breakable as you when they realize they have no power on the other side. So don't waste your one short flicker of life hunting for lizards under the throne. Spend it being gloriously, inconveniently human, and enjoy your life experience. Ask the rude questions, read the small print, and keep that tin foil dry, you belly-buttoned skeletons. We'll be lighting it up again very soon. Cold blooded? Ha. No, my loves. They're warm blooded, same as you, until the end anyway. That's what makes them dangerous. Sleep tight. Don't let the bed lizards bite.

SPEAKER_05

This has been Lizards in the Palace, an episode of the Evident Conspiracy Files. There were no reptiles tonight shadow dwellers, only a very human story about power, secrecy, grief, and the monsters we sometimes invent. When we can't quite see the truth, keep your eyes open and your scepticism sharp. But aim it at corruption and evidence, not at each other. Check out our website and reach the team at the ecf.co.uk. Follow us on X, leave us a review, and smash that five stars. Remember to hit follow so you don't miss an episode and tell us what you really think slivers behind the palace gates. We read everyone. Until next time. Stay curious, stay sceptical, and stay warm blooded out there. And we will see you again somewhere in time in the dead of night where secrets lie in the wait.

SPEAKER_01

Government corruption seals the people's fate. We sift the evidence in the evident fight.

SPEAKER_04

Challenging the powers without the city.
