Summary
After a packed couple of weeks, the guys catch up on everything from new commutes and Phillies games to summer storms and house hunting. Alex shares the infamous "Murphy Ball" story involving an automated dog toy that turns into absolute chaos, gives another update on his ongoing friendship with Fawny the neighborhood deer, and recaps a surprisingly entertaining night at Piccolo's market featuring free pizza, Cutco knives, cigars, and live music.
Jake updates everyone on Pippin's new scratching post obsession, recounts a great dinner at the renovated Pineville Tavern, and tells the story of touring an open house led by a hilariously opinionated real estate agent who practically talked them out of buying the home. The brothers also debate Shane Gillis' record-breaking stadium comedy show, review Will Ferrell's new golf comedy series Hawk, relive a rain-soaked Phillies tailgate featuring peanuts and decades-old Disney ponchos, and somehow finish the episode with Jake's power going out mid-recording—turning the final minutes into an unexpectedly funny behind-the-scenes look at how the show comes together.

Do your thing, do your thing. We'll get to it. That's I'll go live. We'll just go live. We'll just go live in this. We're going live in. We're here. We're back at it again. Couple of things on the rundown. Busy week. Alex, how was your week? Did you like it? Did you love it? Did you hate it? What'd you do? Oh, ups, downs, busy B. Still working, still commuting. I'm not a train guy anymore, Jake. I'm a drive guy. And I've got my drive dialed in now. I've got my drive dialed in. I've got my morning kind of dialed in now. I really refrain to tell people what my morning routine is because the reaction that I got from you and one Mr. Sean, I won't say his last name. Disgusted. You were disgusted in me. No, Alex No, no. Alex. Alex, it was our own, it was our own, it was our own self. Alex, we're jealous. I can't I can't do it. And that's why I don't want to do it. That's why I don't want to talk about it. That's why I don't want to talk about it. I I really, you should be proud of it. I am very proud of it, Jake. But I have my own internally validation that I'm worth. I feel as though I'm being I'm being dragged with the group here. I felt like I was just trying to be on a friend's side, building on the joke. I I pivoted, if you recall, to ice cream. I go self-deprecation immediately. I don't I don't know if it was it wasn't tearing you down, Alex. It had nothing to nothing to do with potatoes, tomatoes, tomatoes, potatoes. That's right. It was it's it was a busy week. Uh full of root vegetables. Full of root vegetables. But um, it was a good week. I had a good week. You get a lot done, you know. And um and had some fun stuff. Got to a Philly's game. Oh, finally. Can't wait to talk about it. That's a little cliffhanger now for the end towards the end of the episode. You love peanuts and ponchos. Peanuts and ponchos, baby. Love you your root vegetables, your planting seeds, you're all over the place. Cliffhangers. Unbelievable. Speaking of cliffhanger, Alex, we left them on a cliffhanger. You were teasing before we go to cliffhanger. How was your week? Just as a briefy. Just a briefie. How was your week? I want to know. I want to know. It was good. I made it to the dentist. That was great. First time at Good Dentist. Good trip. Well, let you know. We're gonna find out. I'll give you the play-by-play. I had that going on. I got to the movie theater. Saw that? The theater. The tea time. Um couple of a little double date action through the week, squeezed it in. These guys are relentless. If it was a sport, you'd be winning. You'd be in the top. You'd be at the top. You'd have a gold medal. You'd be on the podium. We got another one this week. We're on the bucks. You'd have the thing. Winning accolades. I don't know. Yeah. All over the place. We're new. You know, we're new to the area. You gotta get out there. You gotta put yourself out there. And uh that's a good one. I've never felt out You know what? I was fine with being single until I realized I wouldn't see you guys unless I had a double to date. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_02Alex, we see you showed plenty. What are you talking about?
SPEAKER_01I know. I was at your place yesterday. I was at your place yesterday. What are we talking about? What are we talking about? Actually, shout out to your wonderful wonderful wife. She made me dinner yesterday. So that was pretty great. What doesn't she do? What doesn't she do? We appreciate my wife. Love her daily. But we did have a cliffhanger from Lil Cliffy, little Clifford the red dog, Alex. That's right. I can't remember how we got into it last time, but you were talking about I wouldn't give anything away. I remember like it was about yes. Remember when you wanted something new for Pippin? You got him a toy, but but he didn't love it. He got he got sick of it after a while. And then you had to put it in different places to make it feel new and fresh to him, right? That was what. And then I said, I have a story which I'll just call the Murphy Ball story. And so now this isn't build-up. Quick update. Good. Quick, quick update. He's loving the scratch pad. He's loving it. Is he? He's really been a week now. Where is it? So we put it right next to the couch where he was scratching. So when he goes over there, he goes, Oh, I guess I'll I'll scratch it. Oh, and then we give him a treat. It's been great. It's been great. Anyway, I digress. The story. We're back on review. Just want to give a quick update from last week. We've got we've got cliffhangers, but we've got we've got follow-ups. We've got it all here on Going Yard. So this was the Murphy Ball story. Okay. And I let me just paint the picture. I'm living in Los Angeles at this time. Okay. I live in a very very small apartment. And Jake, could you keep keep um with just a little bit of those peppering? Yeah, pick peppering notes. Yeah, give me those anecdotes. Like you're uh exactly. So I'm in a tiny apartment, too. Very small. And we got a we got a little tiny corgi dog, right? Murphy. Murphy. And his name name is Murphy. And so Murphy, as you'd imagine a corgi to be, very sassy. And what you talking about, Willis? I got, well, I I should say uh my partner at the time, she got a a ball from Murphy. And this was an automated ball. It was like hard plastic that in the middle it rolled itself around. Like it like you have treats or anything with it? It's like a roomba. You got a roomba toy. Kind of like a roomba, but there was no treats because it was hardball. You just like clicked on, and then it would just like like erratically roll around it so that the dog could try to chase it and get it itself. Um and so we've gotten this ball, right? And just like you were saying with the cat, like kind of Murph kind of got tired of it after a while. And we were like, oh no, like, you know, we we had the ball, love the ball. So we're trying different ways to do it. Um one day I come home, I'm I'm with a friend, right? So it's just me and this one friend in the apartment, okay? Hanging out. We we're hanging out. We we were probably playing like frisbee golf earlier that day or something. So so this friend goes to the bathroom, okay? Now this friend has IBS, which is irritable bowel syndrome, okay? Oh, no. And so this friend's spending a lot of time in the bathroom, okay? I'll just say that. Um and to to put it to put it in that way. And then now I am in the again, that small tiny apartment. I'm in the room and I'm trying to play with murf. I'm trying to get this ball going. So I I set the ball up and it's rolling itself around, right? I go into the bedroom, and when I come back, I realize that uh little Murph had an accident. So Murph uh had pooped on the floor. So Murph pooped on the floor, and I go, oh no, I'm I go to I I go to clean it up. Before I can do anything, I see the automated Oh, I see the automated ball drive through the shit. It drives through the ship. Was there any pee as well? Was there pee involved in this? Or is it just it was wet. Jake, it was wet. Because Jake, because this then ball, it it rolled itself around, smearing the poop everywhere. And and it goes under the couch. So I can't get it. I'm now chasing a shit ball. My sassy corgi dog is chasing me and barking at me, and my friend is also simultaneously shitting his brains out in the bathroom. And and I'm I'm trying to find, I'm trying to get trying to get this ball. It is covered in shit, and the dog's barking, and my friend's like, what's going on out there? He opens the door, he's on the toilet pooping. There's pooping out there opening the door. Opening the door is a lot of confidence, a lot of confidence from that friend. And I finally grab it. I get paper towels, like I'm trying to rub off all this shit. I'm trying to rub it down. And and I look at my friend, my friend looks at me, and he goes, he goes, the team's down real bad right now. The team's down real bad. And um, I finally clean it all up. The dog, like I had kind of scared her away, like, no, get away from the shit. Get away from the show. I'm like, I'm like an angry dog dad, like, get away, look what you did, you know. Like, oh no. I didn't go, but I just didn't want her to step in it and then she falls in it. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Maybe a little bit, but not a lot, because I kind of shoot her away. That was what I was trying to avoid. And then it's under the couch, and my friend then then finishes up in the bathroom, and um and he's like, oh man, that was wild.
unknownLike, God.
SPEAKER_01And so that's the shit ball story. So not not a not a long story, but uh I'd say dense, and uh, and I'd say a fun uh I don't know, could have been a little bit more dense, it sounds like I know I wish it were. I wish there was more fiber to it. That's right. That's right. Yeah, but uh actually, Alex, I appreciate you not telling that story as we were mid-carrot cake conversation last week. So I appreciate you holding off. Uh Jake. That's I'm gonna go quick tangent here. Pro podcast. On Sunday, I was in a real Sunday Scaries. I ordered Meglios, I got a cheesesteak to watch this the FIFA game. And because you had so elegantly described that carrot cake uh on our last podcast, I ordered a carrot cake as well on Sunday. I ordered just a slice. I got delivered cheesecake uh carrot cake and uh a cheesesteak. And uh I got after it and then I promptly God, that was a snooze of a FIFA game. Was it worth uh was it did it scratch the itch? Did it scratch the itch? Yeah, it did. I like carrot cake. I like carrot cake.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01There you go. Yeah. Yeah. And that and that FIFA was or the not FIFA, well, I guess it was FIFA, but the uh the World Cup. We barely talk sports anymore. I don't know, I don't know who we are, but um I know. Yeah, it was. But everybody watched World Cup. Everybody did it. I know, you know? That's true. That is true. Yeah. It was um I did want Messi to get it, you know, but um it definitely seemed like Spain was the far better team. That was just 20. It was like 20 shots to zero at one point. They were just firing funny aside, really pushing for whatever reason. Um I guess so I can the whole World Cup, I could stream it on Peacock, and so it but it only gives you uh Telemundo. Perfect. So perfect. I I think I I talked about this briefly on an episode when it first started, but uh what's funny is like when you go on like the English broadcast, especially when it's like not just English, but like England and like British commentary, it's a much more soothing, kind of like rhythmic, almost like baseball kind of cadence. It's it's like it's like they they talk about it like it's war. They go like it's it's attrition. It's attrition. They've taken the yeah, they they've taken the the into enemy territory. The bombings are coming again. They come yeah, and it's from our flank side, yeah, and they come a blitzkrieg of sorts. Um but then the telemundo in Spanish is it's way more frenetic, way more like they're describing each dribble, and it's much more it's almost it it's more you're dancing for the listener. He's kind of dancing now, he's frenetic. I don't want to say it because they're describing it's in sexual. Is that what you're saying? It's kind of yeah, a little bit, Alex. I think it is, but it's tonal, it's a lot more tonal, and it feels more like a basketball broadcast with the pace. So you go from baseball to basketball with the different language change. And I I you made me think of it because they would put stats up, but I would just see the number and the Spanish word, and I'd be like, I'm pretty sure that's goals. I'm pretty sure that's shots on, and I think that saves. And so I did see the 20, and I was like, I'm fairly certain that shots on goal, but I wasn't I wasn't sure. Um that's what a what a great way to learn Spanish. And did they do the goal? Like that's what I think of. I'll tell you what, I knew that was their thing, but boy, do they lean into it. There is a bit of a I I my speculation, my speculation, bit of a cold war happening with the Spanish broadcast team where they want to run up each other on the goal, you know, announcement, the the delivery. It was a little bit, a little bit much. They went, Alex, they went so far as going, go, go, and they did it, and they kept they kept. You only get one breath. Yeah, you fail. No, you have to you have to take a deep breath. You want to commit to it, and then from there, but to go the second time, a bit egregious, it was a bit much, but there was only one goal in the whole game. So I I was fine with it. I let it go. No, but it's it's it's masturbatory. It's it's too much. It's too much to go, yeah. To to to do that, to take a breath in the middle, it it's self-indulgent. Thank you. Yeah, thank you. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. It's not a carrot cake. You it's too much. Yeah, you can't finish that. Yeah. No. One sitting, one breath. Yeah, that's all you get. Save it for next game. Save the rest for next game. It's leftovers now. You can't eat the whole thing.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, what are you gonna do? Just keep going back. Ugh. Unbelievable.
SPEAKER_01Now, I will say, we were kind of talking about the Murphy story. We're talking about pets and stuff. Kind of a pet to the show here. This is another uh kind of recurring character. I saw Fawny again. Oh Fawny again. Fawny just lived. Where is she now for the listeners? What's going on? Never have. I would love to. I would love to. I'd give her some carrot cake. I'd be too much for it. How much would Fawny love carrot cake? Because it's like carrots. Because it has any carrot. She probably has tried carrots in the past. Maybe you should give her carrots and then you eat the carrot cake. Get a picture for the socials. I'll put that as I'll plaster that everywhere if you get that photo. If you're listening to this and you you don't know what we're talking about, Fawny is a fawn or a doe that just came into the front yard. And I bowed at Fawny. Fawny bowed back at me. We had a mutual agreement, kind of like Eliza Thornberry, I felt like. I felt like I was Nigel Thornbury. In a way. What a pole, Alex. Nigel Thunberry. Nickelodeon cartoon from our childhood. Hell of a pole, Alex. Loved it. Thank you. But she could talk to animals. I felt connected to this animal. And now I've seen Fawny a couple times, if you like. Is it a different dough every time? Maybe. Maybe I'm crazy. Or it's the same rickety-legged Fawny hanging around the house in this neighborhood. And this is her domain. This is a turf now. Alex. I'm happy you brought this up. I actually go for a little walk around my neighborhood area. And there has been, I sent you a picture of that buck. I don't know if it was a buck, though, because a buck has the horns, right? It didn't have horns. But it was it was an adult deer. It was an adult deer that I was. Wasn't I with you? I think we've seen one together for sure, but this was a different occurrence. And now today, today, saw what looked like the same deer in the same spot. So I think I'm gonna just keep tying my walks up. We might have a little bit of a routine on our hands if I can do a similar circle. A little lunchtime, circles hit, midday walk, you know, eat some grass. That's just kind of the thing. It's just that's what you do. You've always done that. I've always done that. I've always done that. I've always double dated. And speaking of double dating, we went on another one this past weekend, Lisa and I. There you go. We made it all the way to uh little Pineville Tavern action, Alex. I know, shout out to Garbo. First job. He used to, I I mentioned this no less than three times at dinner. He it was just his first job. He used to work here. Did you know that? He sure did. He sure did. But I'll tell you what, Alex, Pineville, if you don't know, Alex, when's the last time you've been there? Do you know? Last time you've been there. Well, the thing about taverns, Jake, is they're only as far as a horse can make it in a day. And so I've never been that far. I haven't been that far in a while. I don't have my horse. Not under a day. That's right. Not under a day. So who knows? Alex's with Alex with Fawny, you could make it pretty far, I think. I think the two of you have a pawn. God, I can't. I can make it day and night with Fawny. I can't wait until Fawny has had enough carrot cake to give her enough nutrients to be big enough to support my wheel. And I to mature, and I can ride her to the Pineville Tavern. That would be great. Now we're talking about my future. And so at the Pineville, it sounds like you haven't been in a while, but I haven't. Okay. I'm sure I haven't. Sounds like, okay, read between the lines. Um I I hadn't been well over a decade. They have really spruced things up a bit. They're trying to go a little bit more upscale, even. They they they have like a whole Italian side of the menu. Last time I went there, it was just like beer battered fish and like chicken, and you kind of got fries. You go there for lunch, and half the construction team is there having a yingling. And uh and they got back to it. And uh and now it's a bit of a little upscale. They've got a whole mural, they're really leaning into the Washington Crossing. I forgot about this area. It's just like everyone leans into the they have their claim to George and to to William Penn. And the Pineville was like, they actually they concocted the plan to go across the Delaware and do Washington's crossing right here in the Pineville Tavern. This is where the plan happened. 1776, 1775, they ended up they they they came, they would have ale and they came up with the plan. There's an entire mural talking about this story, and I was like, this is guys, what are we doing? I get it's a 250, we're all excited, we're fired up, but really leaning a lot into it. But how much do we buy it? Do we buy the story, Jake? Do we buy the story? Do we think it's true, or you think it's just doing trying to get Taurus in there? Uh I know he was saying he's like, so the manager came over, Lisa and I were there a little bit early. So we got seated, the manager's there. I don't know what it was, but he was very much he he was doing he was doing a lot. He was he was very good. He was like, I think Jake, Jake, I I just I can you help me? I I have no visual of this guy. What does he look like? What's he wearing? What is he? He's got vibe. Yeah. Happy US. Happy US. No, I I'll I'll start off with we call ahead to request the outdoor seating, right? So we do that. It's a great little area. We were like, hey, is that okay? Yeah, of course. This is a couple days before we get there. Night of. Now, Alex, funny little thing. This is the timing coincides with the Canada fires. Fires are happening. The smoke is billowing across the country. Like I was I pulled up one of those maps as if it's a like I had like a meteorologist or something, and it's just a storm following along. And you can see it's like a third of the country. It was covered by the smoke. Like New York City, Michigan, Detroit, Chicago, Philly. Philly was bad. Philly. Yeah. Yeah. Like it was it was crazy how much it covered. So anyway, uh, that was going on. A quick aside as well. I saw this funny thing on uh I think it was Instagram or something. I made our social post and I saw that there was the uh it was, you know, in Zoolander, there's the scene and he's like, I think I got the black lung pop. Yeah. And it's it's Zoolander is the male model. He he's never worked a hard labor a day in his life. He is in the mines with his dad and two brothers that are in. Like in the mind each and every day. And uh the it was that scene in the bar, and it has um East Coasters as the black lung versus west coasters, just used to the fires.
SPEAKER_00I was gonna say the seasonal burn, the seasonal smoke. Um and so uh I did I got a laugh out of that. I thought that was uh it is funny.
SPEAKER_01I I I was in Philadelphia thinking, I thought I got away from this. I thought I moved away from all of this. It followed. It literally, Alex, it literally moved across. It moved eastward, it followed eastward and it made its way. So that set the tone. We pull up to the pineville, both Lisa and I, we pull in, and as we get there, they say, I'm so sorry, we can't have you in the outside seating area. It's very hot. This smoke is it's you can smell it. Yeah, it's too warm. So we gotta move you inside. So I think because of that, this manager who I will describe his appearances in just a second, he is really trying to accommodate us. He's really trying to uh because we had called in and requested something, so he he's gotta be he's got glasses, he's probably about six one, slender, six one, but it's pretty warm out, but he's still got like a kind of an overcoat kind of thing, like uh almost like a blazer, but then he dresses it down with like a plaid underneath or something like that. And then I I I I I I'm kind of going off a vibe in my head at the moment. Um, and then he ends up having his hair is probably like a lightly gray, but more of like a early 40s, you know, kind of like uh just a touch of gray, but you can't. Is it moppy? How long is it? Is it moppy? It's it's moppy clean. Moppy clean. Happy last moppy clean. He has it. There's some elements to it going around. It's it's kind of mo it it goes forward, but it it's darker. It's brown, it's brown. No, but but but but around the bottom, it kind of has like a like a taper up. You know what I mean? He's got like a taper up to the messy, but he wasn't like the the young kids these days. He he wasn't as it wasn't as pronounced. Uh it wasn't the Cooper Dejin, right? Where they they shaved the sides of the stuff. Well, it certainly was not, no. With the coiff in the front. The coff. No, no, no. Certainly was not. He was very excited to explain to us the Pineville history. And now, like I mentioned, double date. Max and Dev, recurring characters for this episode. Yes, two of them. Two of them finally got on the books. They are a blast. We end up, uh, they get there and immediately sit down, and Max is like, I'll do a margarita, please. Do they do Tejen on the Rim? They go, Yeah, we do Tahine on the Rim. He goes, Yeah, I'll do that. I go, oh, nothing less for Max. Yeah. And um, I had this bourbon cocktail thing. Uh Lisa had this uh lemon thing going on. Devin followed her into the dark. We got uh a couple of things. Now, I was I tried Max's margarita. It was so good. I was like, I would love that. Get another round, comes back out, we're chatting. We're chat now. We haven't seen them. They got married, they missed our wedding, we missed their wedding. We're just catching up on wedding stuff. It was a blast. We had such a fun time recounting their honeymoon, our honeymoon, and just kind of shooting the shit over that. And uh, I think the waitress came back, I think it was two or three times. And each time Devin's like, we're gonna need more time.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we're gonna need more time.
SPEAKER_01Um, which was a blast. So we had that good vibe going, and then Max, Max is uh getting his second margarita store. I go, I'll I'll try margarita too. Comes out, we both have it, no tahine, and I'll tell you what, such a disappointment. It was Max made such a point of having the tahine. I wouldn't have thought anything of it if he hadn't spoke so highly of it. Um, but now it it feels like I've gotta I gotta tell you what, dude. You you do miss LA, I think. You got the smoke outside, that's right. And then the tahine on the rim of a margarita. Margarita, that's right. It feels like LA a little bit. Yeah. I know. I know. We made it, we made it through pretty much most of dinner. It was funny. It was one of those things where Lisa and I got there pretty early. The place kind of fills up, at least for like a Thursday, it fills up pretty good. Uh actually ran into the Venuses, Alex. I tell you that. The pin? What? Uh yeah. What a lovely surprise. Debbie and Al ran into them. They gave us some wrecks, and we uh we we got after it. Um but yeah, just bumped into them. And then uh we're wrapping up. And by this point, it had filled up and then it had then kind of dissipated. So we really like we were there for the whole dinner rush and the end of it. And as we're going to leave, the manager is like, you know, we're really, we're really, we're doing a lot of upgrades. We'd love to have you guys back. We're really talking up. We're big on social media. We're big on social media. We're really gonna get it. And if you guys, if you guys want to do anything, that'd be great. But anyway, we're big. Follow us, keep up. We got a lot of events happening. Do you guys want to check the outside out? You guys want to check out the outside? We were like, sure, yeah. He goes, I'm about to leave. So if you want to check out, we're gonna do it right now. Like, okay, okay, and so we had already, you know, closed out, so it was fine. So we walk over, he's showing us. It is a beautiful outdoor, they've got like it's like uh almost like a greenhouse because it's all clear, so you can see the sun above, and it's got plants everywhere. So and they've got either an AC or like fans, and they've got some TVs and stuff, but would love to go back, would love to check it out when it's not um then we walk back to the parking lot. There's you could still it was crazy. It's it felt like a campfire outside um just about the whole time. So but yeah, yeah. I mean, another another fun little outing. Um that's great, man. Yeah, we I had a little bit of an outing. I went to um actually another place that we that that keeps getting brought up. Do you remember Piccolo's? The uh Oh my gosh, yeah. You should be a spot, you should be an affiliate of this place. I know. Well, so what happened to Piccolo's? I mean, this was like a childhood uh pizza place for us, right? But this was also the place that a couple podcasts ago I had mentioned turned into like a nightclub out of nowhere. Kind of just not the Piccolo's that I knew and loved. Uh and was not ready to see all the stuff that I saw that faithful Friday night. But they also do this was, I mean, I don't know how often they do this, but they did on this past Wednesday. I went to it was like a market outside. They had all these vendors come in. They had like like really gourmet candles. They look like desserts. They looked like the actual desserts they smelled like. It was like a key lime pie or it was like a like a chocolate cake in like a in this sort of cup glass sort of thing. They had um, they had a uh flower vendor, they had uh like handbag, jewelry, they had cut co knives, Jake. They had a cutkoil. Oh, the old cutcoat days, baby. I asked, does this have a durable double durable edge? He goes, it does. I go, oh, no way. No way. Who would have guessed? Is that a horny slicer? Hmm. Is that a homemaker kit in a galley set? Wow. That's not that wouldn't be a Santoku slicer, right? That's not a Santoku, right? It is? Really? I had no idea. You know a lot about Cutcoas, sir. No. Me? Just a fan. Justifia. No, I did see a realtor. Great idea. I saw a realtor. She he the guy was talking to the uh a realtor that wanted to buy some so that when someone got uh a home, she'd give you like a knife set, a very nice knife set. Um it's like a cup, like a grand or two, if depending on what you're gonna do. That's a good realtor. That's a really great realtor. And then they also had like they had um like Philly's merchandise stand. They had a cigar stand out front. This is where I I got roped in. I should I should say here too. The greatest part. So all these vendors, you're kind of like, Alex, you might be thinking, Alex, I don't like and the sound of any of those vendors. But you know what you would like, listener and Jake? You would like the bar outside and the free food that felt like I felt like Jake, it was the spread you'd see at a wedding. The tables in the middle, the cocktail tables. What is going on? Did they come in with some money and they just started like having passion projects? Just no idea. I love the owner. I don't know what he's doing, but he's getting butts in the door because after a couple drinks and a couple pizza pies, a couple Caprese salads for free, a couple pieces of crystalline cheese. I was like, I'll buy a handbag.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_01Where are those candles? I want to eat one of those candles. Exactly. I was like, yeah, I was and and oh, dude, forgot the best part. Live music. They had a guy ripping a guitar playing playing some real hits. I tipped him. And I I I went out front. I had a couple drinks, I had a couple uh couple of pizza pies in me, and uh, and then this guy starts doing his spiel about cigars, and I'm like, you know what, man, you get after it. He he he had the whole lineup of cigars lined up from from lighter cigars all the way to darker cigars, and the lighter ones are like the breakfast, and then there's an afternoon lunch. Oh, he's a salesman. Afternoon, he's a ship. He's a salesman, and they get them from Honduras, Jake. Yeah, yeah. But he um look at this. He was selling. I bought two for dad, and one for you, one for for dad. Um, it was a breakfast one and an afternoon one. Yeah. Um pick which one you want. Uh but it was a great time. Really, really nice. And there was the flower woman. She's doing kind of she was she was like she was Alex. Alex. No, not like that. No, okay, not like that. But maybe no, no, no, no, no. But it was very hot, humid, really hot and humid out in this back patio. I'm sure it was. I'm sure it was.
SPEAKER_00I'm sure it's a bottle 60 degrees out, but it felt like 95.
SPEAKER_01She had a spray bottle for her plants, but she was spraying her face. And again, Lucy Goosey, I go, can I get a spritz? She spritzes my face with the water bottle. I go, thank you. You flirt. And then my friends that came by, I go, like, if you get hot, she'll squirt you in the face over there. And then again, really again, the weather has been so weird. Um, Alex, really quick, a single Alex is a loose cannon in the best. Eggs in baskets. Eggs in baskets, baby. That's right. That's in baskets. There you go. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take, Alex. Sure. That's right. Um there was there were it got so it was hot, but then it gets really cold. It's about to rain, so it gets super windy. The umbrella that was by the flower girl stand right near the the entrance blows into the event. Uh like it out of nowhere blows. She grabs the end of it, but it's like she's like Dorothy in um photo in the Wizard of Oz. And she's she's holding on to it as the storm's like whipping behind her and the the umbrella folds on itself, and it's like Alex, you did not help her. Did you go over and help her? I certainly did not, Jake. There were people there. I was too far away. I was too far away. It happens to be fast. Have you already seen that movie in that rom-com? Have you already seen that plot? It is a me it's a good meat cute. Yeah, it is a good meat cute. How do I go over there? I go there. This umbrella, and she goes, wow, you're so strong. And I go, what? This little umbrella, and I I I save it for her. Um, no, I didn't wasn't that quick on my feet or that close, but I saw it from afar and I watched the whole thing and ate my pizza. Oh no.
SPEAKER_02Oh no. And I'm eating my pizza. Stuff in your pizza. Yeah. Love the misdirection. That's great.
SPEAKER_01But um it was a fun event. I had some uh hung out with some friends. You know who I saw? Amanda from school. We went to great guys. We went to elementary school with her. We went to like a little party with her when we were like probably like 10 years, seven years old or something like that. Um but uh yeah, it was great. We saw her caught up and um that was awesome. Yeah. But uh I had uh I had a bit of a uh run in with the rain myself with uh we made our way over to Princeton. We did a little uh little run over there, met some friends. Another double date, I'm realizing, Alex. I uh I can't I can't quit this stuff, but uh it was pouring rain, it was so so aggressive. I Lisa was in shotgun. It's about a 25-minute drive, making our way over there, and as we're going over there, she is counting the seconds between the thunder and the lightning, and it's like prominent miles away. Yeah, eight seconds, and then there was one that was like less than a second. We're like, we're in it, we're in it. We went, it was at one point there was a uh street light that was out, there was no power, and so the street light is completely out. Thank God there was cops there, so they were like directing. Um, because that could have been an absolute nightmare. But we made our way there. I hadn't been there in a long time, and luckily the people we were with, they are they had lived there for a little bit of time, and so they were showing us around. It was it was lovely to be like, you know, having them pointing things out. Being there with the local was really nice. A little tour guide. Yeah, it sounds like I completely forgot about Hoagie Haven. Oh Hoagie Haven, that place is like you can throw anything in that sandwich. They just Astoner's Paradise. A stoner's paradise. Yeah, you just have a pastorellus. Carlos used to do uh a monthly trip there, it felt like he'd go once a month, if not. That's what I said. I was I was like, oh, my buddy used to go here. Like it felt like I was, I don't know if it was less than that or whatever, but it also seeing it, I was like, oh my gosh, he like he actualized the West Coast version of it and ended up at the Hoagie Haven of the West. I didn't even think about that until I saw that. I was like, oh yeah, holy shit. Um he's living his dreams. He's living his dreams. And then we went to the Triumph Brewery, which uh that was fun. They they have that. It used to be New Hope, but uh anyway, fun little, fun little uh jaunt there to kind of see them. Man, we got real lucky with the rain, just driving there and back. But uh it was it was one of those things though, where after the smoke, having the rain, uh, it was we needed it. It was we needed it. We needed it. That's right. I knew it's like once you hit 30 years old or so, I I don't know, you just get into macro climates. You just get more into the weather. You're like that's right. Like, you know what, we we really needed the rain. I I did say I did, I found myself saying that. I'm like, dude, I'm I'm in my 30s. Because when you start saying, oh, we needed it, the rain. We needed the rain. Really cleared it out, cooled it down. The air index is way improved. This is fantastic. I can go out for a run again. This is this is it right here. Oh yeah, it was uh I mean, because it's I I have a funny, this is a little bit of a sidestep here, but I was just thinking about work here, where we were talking at work about just like the the weather, when when to leave for the commute. Um and this happened today, where a guy goes, Hey, do you know where Bob have you seen Bob recently? And my boss goes, No, why? Now, now this coworker, he was in from Charlotte. He's in the Charlotte office, but he was in, he's in for the week. And he goes, Have you seen Bob recently? To my boss who's who's stationed in Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia. And he goes, No, I haven't I haven't seen him. I thought he's on your team, right? And he goes, Yeah, but he told me that he was staying at his in-laws place for a bit. And I I was okay with that, you know. So he's he was working from home. Um, but then somebody just the other day told me he might be taking a trip to Hawaii. And and then the boss goes, I didn't hear about this. And he goes, I don't want to like snitch on anybody, but like I just haven't seen him in a while. They're like, is he working from Hawaii right now? Like they were like, and like they kind of murmured to the office, and then the office was like, Is he is he working from and and then my boss goes, I'm gonna text him. I'm not gonna let him know. I'm gonna text him, hey, where are you? And they were going through the rationale, and they're like, if he's working from Hawaii on East Coast hours, that means he's waking up at like two o'clock. He had to have to wake up at two o'clock to be ready at eight o'clock to be doing this. Um it just happened today. So I don't know. I wish I had an ending to this. Hopefully it'll come come to fruition. Another cliffhanger, Alex. Alex, patent cliffhanger, look at you, man. You're just all over the place. I love it. Well, it just happened today. I was just today it it poured on my my ride over here, and we were talking about the rain, and then also today, that was a big thing at work, and then the other thing was just like I think a guy is secretly working from Hawaii. Good for him, dude. If he could get it, good for him. If he can actually pull that off. I can I it's funny. I had a meeting today pop on my schedule where someone I'm on the east coast, someone else is middle of the country, and so they're like, Can we have it at five their time? Which ends up being 6 p.m. So I'm like, yeah, no problem. Of course, no problem. And I'm like, I gotta, I gotta work after hours. But that that's not nearly as aggressive as the Hawaii to East Coast is. I mean, that means he's he's wrapping that means he's like working like a graveyard shift in Hawaii, kind of. Kind of, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Because then what is it?
SPEAKER_01Two to like ten. Is that right? Almost or like eight or nine hours, or he's like two to like eleven or so. Yeah. I mean like eleven if he takes a lunch or something, ten o'clock. That's crazy. What a weird schedule and day, and then you're sleeping. Uh I don't know. I don't know. Well, what a wild, what a wild thing to get. You wouldn't be able to sleep, but you could you could have a whole daylight to yourself in Hawaii. I mean, whatever it takes to be in Hawaii, I guess. You know, whatever you gotta do. Lie to your boss, lie to the people you love, lie to your in-laws. Lie to your in-laws, wake up at two, you know. Um, the other thing, last thing work-related, is a lot of folks went to on Friday night the Shane Gillis uh comedy concert. It was at Lincoln Financial Field. Oh, yeah, that's right. He set the record, right? He set two Guinness records. I think one was like biggest comedy show or something like that at the Link where the Eagles play. And it was very funny because a lot of different people at my office went, and hearing how each person talked about it was a little different. Like some people were like, oh man, brutal show. Some people were like, No, we're like, oh, it's too that they were like, they were like, um, and and Jason Kelsey was great. He hosted. I was like, Jason Kelsey was there, that's wild. And then another person was like, great show, it was awesome. Dave Chappelle was there. Another person was like, ugh, Dave Chappelle was drunk. It was awful. And then another guy was like, another guy was like, and the surprise guest, I'm a huge, huge Sixers fan. And and they had this surprise guest, it's this build-up to it. And and one guy was like, I can't believe, dude, they had 3-6 Mafia come. Like, they had 3 6 Mafia. It was very disappointing. A lot of people left during 3-6 mafia. Like, what stay fly the song hasn't been relevant for like 20 years, right? Like, I gotta stay fly. Yeah, that song. So, so that's how he closed out the show, I guess, with 3-6 mafia. But this one guy's a Sixers fan, and he goes, I thought for sure that the last guest was gonna be LeBron James, and he was gonna make his decision and go, I'm coming to Philadelphia. And then I I was I got that in my head, and then it was 36 Mafia, and I was so disappointed. Oh, yeah, you can't do that. You can't do that. Uh yeah, comedy in the stadium is a tricky thing. A tricky thing. Um It's not where it belongs. It's um it's it's just tough. You can't read an audience, and also like there's a lot of subtlety in things, it's difficult to come across. Um you're just watching the guy on the big screen from very far away. And it's I feel like the mystery and like the magic trick of stand-up is it feels like they're just talking to you, like a friend talking to you in like a a cozy bar, you know, like the comedy cellar. You know what I mean? I feel like you're right next to them. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, they're just like they're just holding court in like a group of friends. When it becomes that big, it's like it's a very different thing, and it's and then it doesn't translate as well. Unless the performer is very big, unless the performer is like Freddie Mercury and like doing the But even Queen, even Queen would intentionally try and do like we will rock you so that the audience had to participate, and then also it was very simple, like dun dunch, dun dunch, like stomp, stomp, clap, stomp, stomp, clap. Like it had to be very simple to get it across because it's such a big audience projecting to. Yeah. Yeah. So like even the people that were amazing at it, they were able to do it because they had to like make it so it could be projected easily. Um tough, tough thing to do. But um, some people loved it, some people didn't like it. Yeah, it can still be really fun. Like it's still like a fun thing to be like the vibe of it. Uh there. You get to see a guy that that you really enjoy his work, and um or who whoever it is, is just happened to be a guy this time. And um and uh and like you said, you get to share in in the humor, even if that night it's not fully translated well. You know what I mean? But um, but anyway, yeah, that was uh some of the things they were talking about at work there. Um but uh but yeah. Now I wanted to talk about a little bit about I finally got to go to a Phillies game. Oh yeah, how was? That was a good game. This is where I got to see Max and Dev, right? So you got to see some part two. This is with this was on Saturday, and it's kind of mixed in. It was the one of the rainier days, right? So we were worried the game got pushed up an hour to a three o'clock instead of four o'clock start uh because it was supposed to rain later in the evening. And so I got in about like one o'clock or so, and we started tailgating around one o'clock, and I'll tell you what, that's the perfect time. That is just a great time to to because it's afternoon, but it's it's early enough where you're gonna have a nice night to yourself. You can get in bed if you want to at the end, but um a lot of fun. A lot of fun. I got there, I came in knowing that it was going to be very rainy and I had a bag full of ponchos. Now, I can't take credit because this was Dara, our stepmom. She has these ponchos ready for Eagles games in like a clear bag. Yeah, yeah. So I brought these ponchos and I also bought a bag of peanuts. Now I've had these peanuts for like a a month or two that I thought you brought them to the game. I brought them to the game. I brought them to the game because I've had them in my in the the cupboard for like two months because I thought I'd watch a baseball game at home and pretend like I was at the stadium eating these peanuts, but I just never did it. They just sat in the closet, like in the cabinet. Never, and then I finally I go to my first Phillies game this year, and I'm like, I'm bringing the peanuts. I'm bring I'm bringing the yeah, so so I'm I'm bringing the peanuts and ponchos. I got peanuts and ponchos. I bring them. Uh we start tailgating. We're having fun. I get their Parker and Michelle are there first. He's got these, these like Starsky and Hutch glasses on. They're like red aviators. Does that am I getting there? Is he doing it ironically or is he like them? He just likes them and he likes them. And I told him, buddy, you're pulling those glasses. I love those glasses. He goes, You wear them. He puts them on my face. He whips out yellow tinted glasses, and they look like they look like Michelle was like, they look like Jeffrey Dahmer glasses. And he goes, I'm pulling them off. I don't care. I'm pulling them off. So he was very excited, I think, to just show off his glasses. And and then I ended up because I was there first and I complimented him. I just was trying to gas him up. I didn't, I by no means wanted to wear the glasses, but my eyes grew really accustomed to those red tint. I was in a red tint. You got the Phillies red? That's perfect. It was awesome. And then Max, Max and Devin, they showed up like second to last. So we were all drinking, we're having fun. I'm like, where are Max and Dev? We see Snapchats of them driving in, and we're like, where are they? When are they gonna get here? They pull up and Max gets out of the car, and and it is humid. It is so humid. Everybody's got shorts on, everybody's got like tanks on or like a Phillies jersey. Max gets out in like skin tight denim jeans, and and he's got on he's got on hiking boots. Like he's ready for like a torrential downpour. Um, but he did not, it it was so swampy. It was the swampiest day in Philadelphia. Like there were alligators in the parking lot. It was so swampy. And like he ever got so much shit from everybody. We're like, Max, what are you doing? Oh my god, jeans! And he's wearing a white shirt under a white jersey. He's just sweating through this white shirt. I bet. I bet he was like a soldier because I like my outfit.
SPEAKER_00I like it's a Harper jersey. I like double down double down. Double down. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And then we um we got into the game and uh we I smuggle in these peanuts in uh in my clear bag. And I was joking. They're like, Alex, they kind of kind of got a little shit. Like, why'd you bring ponchos? And I'm like, oh, you'll see. They're five dollars now. You can buy them for five right now from me, or if it starts raining, it's gonna be twenty dollars. It's gonna be twenty dollars. Dynamic pricing. It's dynamic pricing. So throughout the game, I they they got a real like a kick out of that. So I kept kind of playing that because we had two rows of people. There's like 10 of us, yeah. And so five and five, and we're in the middle, and like it would like kind of start to to to just spit a little bit, like like just a mist of rain. And I go, ponchos two for 17, ponchos, two for 17 in the whole section.
SPEAKER_02In the section, like yelling at people. I'm a little tuned up at this point, too.
SPEAKER_01And um and um and like so anytime it's a little bit of rain or it got really sunny, it was a weird day where it's we got every season in like besides snow, we got like every sneeze season in like this afternoon, whereas overcast, then it then it then it like all went away and it was really sunny, and then the overcast came back and it rained a little bit. So it was really sunny. I was like, four dollars, four dollars for a poncho. Four dollars, and then it starts pouring at the end.
SPEAKER_02I go, fifty dollars for a poncho.
SPEAKER_01Um, they got a hoot of that, but they did robots. Did you sell any or did you like give any out? No, I just gave them out to everybody for like our friends, but they got used, they got used though. They all get they like it was very funny because finally at the end of the game was a seventh inning, and it's start it really starts coming down, and I start passing them out. Well, I didn't realize some of them have Mickey Mouse on them. They're like, Alex, where did you get these ponchos? And I didn't know this. Garr told me those were the ponchos for when we went to Disney World and we were kids, Jake. It was like 20, 25-year-old uh. They were in great shape. I had no idea. Yeah. Wow. Um everybody wore them on the way out because at the seventh inning, we did the seventh inning stretch. They were about to come out for the eighth inning, but then they put the tarp out and they do rain delay. And then then we all kind of left. But dude, it was a great game. Lazardo was on the mound. I saw Trey Turner hit a home run. It was six to one by the time. And we were right on the first baseline. We had great seats on the first baseline, and we were right by the ball girl, the foul ball girl that sits right there and gives them out to everybody. Her name is Megan. We're like, Megan! Megan! Like, you go, girl. Like she gave out all these balls, and Charlie he leaned over to me one time and he goes, That's the third ball that little kid's gotten. When we when when the when the big kid's gonna get some balls, huh? Unbelievable. Unbelievable. But uh it was a blast. It was all it was a lot of fun. It was a great game. They won. It was fun. And then it it's kind of raining, and so like it dispersed. Some people left before it happened, some people left as it rained, some people stayed. So the traffic was great. There was like hardly anybody because it was so spread out. Yeah, it was kind of rainy anyway. So that's nice. You know, I could drive back at home in in good time, and I I got home must have been by like seven o'clock or something, like eight seven or eight o'clock. So sunny out, just a great day. I speaking of speaking of big big kids, that actually leads perfectly into uh Lisa and I. I keep there was I mentioned this I think last pod, but there was Barbenheimer a couple of years ago, and I'm trying to get Odyssey going, which is Odyssey and Toy Story. So I have done part one. Lisa and I made it to Toy Story 5, which is uh pretty wild to uh that they've made it this far. Uh, but it was it was, as you can imagine, very sweet. Um bunch of kids, bunch of families, very lovely to just be around a very wholesome bunch. And uh and then we coupled that. We coupled that with a uh we go there, watch it, um great film, and then we go directly to a uh an open house in uh Doellstown. So very different experience. Oh, like of a house like to tour to buy. Yeah, yeah, like an open house for a uh a house being sold. So uh very, very funny juxtaposition of like going to see Toy Story, being with a bunch of kids and being like, what a great movie, and then being like, yeah, no, we can see ourselves living here. This is great. Good amenities, good amenities, good. Looks like a good fridge. Yeah, yeah. This is uh three baths. Very good, good. Yeah, very, very fun back to back. Um, but man, I'll tell you what, that real estate agent, she was like, she she was, you could tell she was good because she was just playing hardball. She goes, uh well, you know what she did have? She had printouts of the house, all of the everything you'd see on Zillow, print it out, handed it right to you. You could physically see it all, walk around. She had her business card, she was ready to roll. She updated things in like red marker on top of it, gave her own notes, and we chatted with her. We were chatting about everything, and she she immediately goes, This isn't the house for you. This isn't the house for you. I'll tell you right now. This thing, fix her upper. You guys, you're young, you're in love. You want to travel. This thing, you'll be tied down. You don't want this thing. You don't want this thing. You're young. And I was like, You want to travel. In love. We told her, like, we had just got she's like, are you married? Are you married? We just got married, yeah. And she goes, You just got married. You're in love. You're in love. Okay, you don't want this.
SPEAKER_02I was like, this is for a loveless marriage, trying to rebuild, exact trying to rebuild some equity in their homeownership. This is a whip.
SPEAKER_01This is uh how dare you! This is a closeted gay man lives here. That's it. That's the only thing. And he's gonna get a TSER loan. He's gonna hold it out, and then he's gonna rent it. He's gonna rent it to all the kids in the neighborhood. She did have a lot of she you could tell she was good. She was also, you could tell she was really going like number one in my office, 16 years running. I was like, oh my god. Did she have a cigarette in her mouth this whole time? She sounds like she's like it, Alex. It felt like it. Yeah, she didn't cigarette afterwards on the carpet. It's a fixer upper. Yeah. You don't want it. It's not your house. You don't want it. And it's it's that reverse psychology. I'm like, fuck, now I want it. Now I want it. Now I know. Yep. That's what I'd say. But uh, she was good. She had some good intel. And now this is you know, it's just maybe a little intel for the listener now. I'm passing it on. She had some good intel. She was saying Phoenixville, very up and coming. She said it's very hot right now.
SPEAKER_02Hush hush.
SPEAKER_01And she, yeah, I guess. I don't know. But hey, if you listen to Go On Yard, you're good people. So good people. You deserve it. Phoenixville. Check it out. Yeah, love.
SPEAKER_00Check it out. Uh I mean, you got a light.
SPEAKER_01I mean, actually, you know what? I'll give it a light on the gas fireplace. This thing has been installed. There's another one in the basement. Two fireplaces. There's a function. Excuse me. Is it is there a fireplace in the basement? Is the ventilation okay down there? Like no. You can hear the highway from the kitchen, but that doesn't matter. Legitimate. Traffic's terrible. School buses up and down this road. It's a dead end, much like the marriage that's gonna be moving in here. You're in love. You don't want it. Get out. I got a four o'clock dealing with a miserable couple. Alex. Not good. I lost you, brother. It's uh it's frozen in a very funny place. I took a picture of it. Uh put it on the Well, listener, if this part makes it, it probably won't. This will be cut. But um We joked so hard that the um the the Zoom that we use, the the riverside um filming software crashed. And so Jake Jake froze and now exited. It's like he lost power for a hot second, just kicked back on, waiting for the router. Which I'm not it's uh you know, it's it's not it's not something new for me to vamp. I vamped before, you know? Um you know, I'm not used to solo vamping, but I can do it. You know what I mean? I can do it. Very funny bit from Jake there. Well, this is gonna be a little like director's cut where I talk about Jake's bit there, and I kind of I kind of bolster him up because that was pretty funny. This sort of kind of New Yorker character of this realtor who's been doing it for 16 years at the top of her game, showing a house to him and his his new wife, it's it's pretty funny. Pretty funny. Would I um would I buy a house after she says don't buy it? I don't think I would. I'd I take her advice. But would I want to? Maybe, maybe there is something weird in life about you want what you can't have. But when you release that and you and you really gain a sense of gratitude in life for what you do have, and that I I find is sort of the antito antidote for that sort of yearning for what you don't have, what you need, what you want, that sort of more and more, more, more, more sort of consumerism that we're all kind of kind of chasing and and going after. So once you get past that type of consumerism, I think that's when in life you can really accept where you're at in life. Now Jake is back. I think I vamped successfully for about two or three minutes. And I did a director's cut, Jake, about now your whole did the whole apartment power go out? Because now the room's darker even. Sure did. Sure did. Apartment power went out. Really? It sure did. It sure did, Alex.
SPEAKER_02Oh no.
SPEAKER_01So I am on a hot spot, but um we can maybe I'll cut some of this, but um I'll uh I did some. You did some good vamping? I don't know how good it was, but I just sent you a picture of where it froze. It was very funny to me. We had such a fun moment. We were we were really riffing on the real estate agent there. And uh my router, my router reset, so I had to I had to click back on. Um but it looks like it's up. And you're doing you can hear me? Feeling good? Yeah, I think you're good. I think we're back to good. We're back. We're back, baby. Alex, we are. It is one of my absolute joys to hear where I come in and where you're at, mid-vamp. It is, I'll I'll you can give me a thousand guesses. I'd never guess what it is. I think I came in at, you know, we went from being like, what were we doing? Like, you'll never, you'll never buy it, you'll never buy it. And then blackness, all blackness, the lights went out, everything went black. Exactly. My everything reset, everything came back on, I come back in, and then I hear, and that's just human life, and synapses are firing, firing, firing. What happened? Well, I was talking about how when I vamp, it sounds a lot like NPR, and it's and it's a lot slower paced, and I'm just by myself. Uh which which is not the exact of when me and my identical twin brother are excited to see each other, and we're just firing each other's synapses with different reference points that only we kind of know, and are just reference points. So the speed with which we catch up is fast. We're just firing each other's synapses, trying trying to uh piece together a conversation, you know. But then when it's just me vamping, it to it turns into a much slower sort of NPR. Yes. How are you? Low and slow. Speaking of catching up, Alex, uh I caught an episode and about a little bit an episode and a half of Hawk with Will Son. Oh yes. I recommend Records to you easily. But Jake, what did you think of the first episode and a half? Because I did give you a caveat. Do you remember the caveat I gave you? I don't remember the caveat now. Okay, but now I want to hear you now I want to hear your raw motion about it. Okay. Give me your raw emotion of it. Now I threw it on. I finished work. I was waiting. I kind of set things up for the podcast. I got things set up, and I just had some time. I had like 30, 40 minutes to kind of uh just wait around around. I was writing up some notes for the show. So I kind of just threw it on. It wasn't like I wasn't like aggressively watching it. It was just kind of on, and it was perfect for that. However, if I was watching this, this felt a little bit like I was almost insulted with how close it is to Billy Madison or uh Happy Gilmore, where I was just like, this is a blatant ripoff. And you are John Daly, you're exactly you're exactly the downtrodden old over-the-hill, used-to-be-good early 2000s golfer. And there's a little bit of, and also, now I'm thinking about it, the latest Happy Gilmore had his kids as well. So there's like a kid element as well. So there was a little bit of just like, I was a little bit insulted by the premise of like, this is so lazy. This is such, this is such a cash grab. Also, have you seen the show stick with Owen Wilson? Do you even know what that show is? Oh, you told me about it. I know it through you. It is more than that. Wait, no, no, I did watch it. I did watch it. Yes, this is exactly the same thing. Oh, and isn't Luke Wilson in this one? Exactly. Exactly, Jake. That's exactly what I was gonna get to. It is, I put Billy Madison. Thank you though. I did mean Happy Gilmore. I put Billy Madison by accident. But it is Stick with Owen Wilson, where he is an over-the-hill golfer.
SPEAKER_00That's right.
SPEAKER_01And that's an actual original script, like closer to an original script, I would say. This is exactly like Billy Madison meets Stick, and I put also combined with his character Mugatu, just based on the hair. Like he's like Mugatu. But also, did you notice in the first couple episodes? I feel like Will Farrell, in like the first time in his career, doesn't like commit fully. Like he's like his acting isn't great. Yeah, he's like if he can tell tell this is a rip-off. This garb is a cash grab. Yeah. And having said all of that, I still watched all 10 episodes of it. It they're like 27 minutes, so it's not a huge time commitment. Yeah. And I I did the same thing. The first episode, I just threw on in the background, like, oh, it's Will Farrell, new Will Ferrell, golf, can't be horrible. Listening to it in the background, I was like cooking, and I just thought it sounded awful. I was like, this is so bad. Yeah. And then I kept watching it, and it slowly does warm up on you. His character is is terribly uh narcissistic, like can't stay outside of himself at all in any capacity. Um, so not a likable character, but it's Will Farrell. Um, and eventually I kind of found myself kind of getting weirdly hooked to it. I think because I have so much built-up equity in Will Farrell movies and I like golf movies too, and I just was like, hopefully this gets better, and it kind of does, but it it does start off I I felt like this is like the only time Will Farrell has never has not uh fully committed to a character. Like I just thought it was like you know what's weird you saying this. Um Lisa will listen to Good Hang with Amy Polar, and I saw a clip of Will Farrell on there, and he was talking about I think it was Elf when he was filming Elf. And he says he's like in retrospect, uh, there was a few times, like the moment he was really worried was they film a lot of the New York scene, like the scenes that are specific to like New York exterior, like crossing the road or something like that. Uh, those were the first things in the shoot. And so he was like he said he's still trying to find the character and still trying to find like what it is, and he's in New York City. And it's like one of his first things after SNL, and he's kind of left and he's trying to do this thing, and he's in tights and he's in New York City, and he's jumping around, and he was just like, it was one of those things where I was like, Well, what how did I get here? How did I get here? Can you hear me? And so it froze again, and it's back to me vamping. Uh, it froze for a while. I thought he was talking. It it it oh, and he's back, and he is back. It's all black now, but now it's all black. This has been absolutely hilarious. It is uh just a comedy of in and outs and vamping and non-vamping. And that's our show! Go in your maybe we need something at the end.
SPEAKER_02Jake, your screen's black. I'm I don't know what's the room is black.
SPEAKER_00I'm sitting in darkness on a hot spot. I I don't even know what the I love you, brother.
SPEAKER_01Jake, I think this is a great way to end the show. I think it's a absolutely I saw I heard Lisa laughing in the background. Yep, yeah, she's coming in the door. Great ways. Yeah.
unknownReally weird.
SPEAKER_01This is a great place, I think, to end here. Yeah, okay. All right, well, I'm gonna end the show. I love you, brother. I love you guys. Thank you so much for this uh fireside chat with Alex toward the end. Uh, we love you all. That's been going on.
