In this heartwarming episode, Celeste and Dave sit down with Linda and Bob—a couple whose love story spans more than six decades. From meeting as small-town kids (while Bob threw rocks at bats!) to years of dating, separating, reuniting, and ultimately building a life defined by commitment, humor, and devotion—this conversation is a tender reminder of what long-lasting love actually looks like.
Episode Summary
Linda and Bob’s love story begins in their tiny hometown of Greenup, Illinois, where they first met as kids during a family dinner. Though Linda initially thought Bob and his cousin were “the dumbest boys” for throwing rocks at bats, fate brought them back together years later.
They dated through high school and early adulthood, got engaged, un-engaged, lived apart—Linda in Georgia for work, Bob in the military—and eventually found their way back to each other. They married in 1962 and have now shared 62 years of marriage, three sons, four grandsons, countless adventures, and a lifetime of lessons.
The Heart of this Episode:
- Why being apart can sometimes lead you back together
- The reason patience is the foundation of lasting partnership
- Why respect during conflict matters more than avoiding conflict
- What keeps couples connected into their 80s
