This week on Mom’s & Margs: Uncensored, Court is joined by a very special guest—her 21-year-old nephew, Nevin.

With just a 12-year age gap between them, this conversation feels more like two friends comparing notes on life than aunt and nephew. From growing up together to navigating adulthood from two different generations, they dive into relationships, social media, dating, work ethic, family, and how differently Millennials and Gen Z see the world.

Nevin also shares what it’s been like being in a committed relationship with his girlfriend, Sierra, for the past five years, what he’s learned about love at a young age, and how they’re preparing for his upcoming internship in Spain.

It’s funny, honest, and full of the kind of conversations that happen when generations stop assuming and start listening. Whether you’re raising Gen Z, are Gen Z, or just trying to understand them a little better, this episode is for you.

SPEAKER_03

I'm Cord.

SPEAKER_01

I'm Nev.

SPEAKER_03

And this is Moms and Marg's Uncensored. We are at the best possible recording location right now, wouldn't you say?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I don't think anybody's filmed a podcast in a better location than this.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we should win an award. We're gonna go viral on TikTok. We're recording a podcast on a boat, and there's a beautiful sunset behind us. So nobody, no other guests are gonna top this location. No.

SPEAKER_01

It should be a new thing, like outdoor pods.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, like we should find like, okay, let's hike to the top of this mountain and not die, and then record the episode with not die. While you're chugging a truly.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

All right, but I have my nephew, my oldest nephew, my firstborn nephew, Nevin here. And you guys have all heard me talk about him, but you have not heard him talk. So I thought, why not bring a 21-year-old on the podcast and get his perspective on all these things that we talk about? So here he is, and I am drinking a tropical lemonade truly. Only the black cans for me.

SPEAKER_01

And I'm drinking a modello spiked aguas frescas. Oh, he's pineapple flavored.

SPEAKER_03

He's spicy. He's very spicy. His normal drink is a um Twisted T. Twisted Tea. He's a twisted tea guy.

SPEAKER_01

Always.

SPEAKER_03

We were just talking last 4th of July. He was shotgunning, they were shotgunning twisted teas, and my husband, he's freaking old, got in on it, and then he comes in. Oh, he thinks he's like when he's around Nevin and his friends, he thinks he's 21. And he came in from the water, he was on the dock wobbling, and then went straight to bed. And I'm like, guys, don't let him do a shotgun if you want him to go to bed when he comes home.

SPEAKER_01

Like, we want him to have a good time.

SPEAKER_03

And and you want me to have a good time. And those two go hand in hand. All right, let's do highs and lows. What's your high of the week and what's your low of the week?

SPEAKER_01

Um, I would say my high of the week is finally getting my visa for Spain figured out. Oh my god. Because that was very stressful to get done.

SPEAKER_03

Well, so you were at the appointment and your mom was like, I'm really nervous for Nevin for this appointment. I'm like, why? He's just going to get a visa. She's like, no, his friend got denied. And if you get denied and there's no more appointments, I'm like, oh damn. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Like he barely ended up finding an appointment and he had to do it in New York. He didn't even get one in LA.

SPEAKER_03

I was gonna say, if he couldn't find an appointment, like would he just he wouldn't be able to go?

SPEAKER_01

I've done all that work. Oh no.

SPEAKER_03

No, no, no. That is a hide end, because I'm sure that would give me anxiety. Like it was like here.

SPEAKER_01

That sounds awful.

SPEAKER_03

When driving to LA is yeah, what is that your love? Driving to LA?

SPEAKER_01

I had to drive to Mission Viejo, which is like an hour usually, but it took two hours and then two and a half hours back. Oh no. And then the next day all the way to LA, which everybody knows that's taking driving to LA.

SPEAKER_03

So I've never really gone to LA, but we went to a Doggers game. Like we were at a convention for work, and it was like my first time remembering driving to LA, and I was like, I hate this.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's the worst.

SPEAKER_03

But I also maybe an unpopular opinion, but I hated everything about LA.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Nothing was intriguing to me. Like nothing was like, oh, I oh, this is cool. I just I did not get good vibes. Maybe I just wasn't in the right part. I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, especially since we're always in San Diego, it's like it's a weird version of San Diego, I think.

SPEAKER_03

It's like a dirtier, sketchier. Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

They just film movies there, that's it.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, no, I don't like that. I do not like that. Yeah. That would be my love too. Um, my high of the week would be getting a lot of things rolling for work. Always feels good when you get a lot of things in motion and planned out, and like productivity feels good. So oh, my other high would be I got totally cleared on all my IVF appointments.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, okay. That's a good thing.

SPEAKER_03

So I literally will start medication. I was gonna say next month, but today's the first. So this month. So if all goes well, we will be doing a transfer with I think I already said it was a girl. I was like, oh, maybe I won't say with the girl. There's no excitement in it. Yeah. Um like end of August. That was a fish jump baby.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, fish fish jump.

SPEAKER_03

I hope we got that. So that is a high too. Um excuse the jet skis. These are our our sound effects. We're in the studio.

SPEAKER_01

We don't have a soundproof boat.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, no. Um, my low. I guess that's kind of my low, too. If you're in the IVF world, you kind of understand this, but it's just been river all this time, and I feel very lucky to have that time with him. And then the thought of bringing another kid in is kind of like it's exciting, but it's also like, oh no, it's not just gonna be like him and I moments or him and I and Tyler. Like we're two anymore, we're meshing another person into the mix, which is cool, but it's also it always ends up working out. So that's a little scary. So that would be my love. All the emotions that come with IVF, so yeah. But I think both of our extra high is we're all gonna be here for 4th of July this weekend.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that's always a high to be here for 4th of July.

SPEAKER_03

If you're from Blythe and you're listening, because we do have a lot of Blythe listeners, um, you understand that, you know, Fourth of July on the river is just like the all-American thing to do.

SPEAKER_01

It really is.

SPEAKER_03

And although there's gonna be a shit ton of us and we're gonna have to take boatloads and jungle's gonna be packed, it's still cool, especially because like you have friends coming too, but I have my best friend and her husband, and they've never experienced it.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, they've never been here. Well, so for Fourth of July.

SPEAKER_03

They've never been here for Fourth of July, and then the one time that they did come here together, Kelly's come on a girls' float down before. But then the one time that they came down together, like a month ago, it was like a tornado.

SPEAKER_01

Oh.

SPEAKER_03

We couldn't go on the water.

SPEAKER_01

That happened to us last year too.

SPEAKER_03

And it was like the one weekend that they came, they brought like their canoe on the top of their car and everything, and they come and we didn't bring river. We were like ready to have like a party weekend on the water, and so uh that's the weekend I ended up sending like this whole tournament thing because we couldn't go anywhere.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

But that's the one time so they've never gone to jungle or anything, and they're partyers, so like this is totally gonna be your scene. For sure, yeah. So that is super exciting, but yeah, so Nevin is the oldest grandson, yep. The oldest nephew, the oldest, you know, he's the first of the of that generation. So, how does it feel to be like top dog of the crew?

SPEAKER_01

I I mean, I actually like it just because I feel like I can be somebody that they all kind of look up to. And I it's also like even though me and Chase and me and Kenzie obviously we're not like super close in age, yeah. I feel like they're getting to that point where it's like it's not that big of a difference anymore. We can still hang out and have a good time. And then obviously the little ones I like watching over them and wrestling. Yeah, wrestling with them. They all they all like to beat me up or call me bad wolf. So they do. It's always fun with them.

SPEAKER_03

River was just freaking wrestling and smashing his head.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

But no, it's true, they do all look up to you, and then also like one thing I admired about all of you guys is even the age differences, like you guys are all still super close. Yeah. When you get together, it's not this like awkward, like, oh, I haven't seen him, or you know, with you and Chase, or like because some families have those dynamics where it's like, oh, I haven't seen my cousin in a year, so I just kind of don't talk to them or I vibe with them. So, and you guys are extremely lucky to have that because yeah, there's some people that don't even talk to their sister or brother, like, you know what I mean? Like, we have this huge extended like family, and I think about that for the littles. They have no clue the life they're living right now, out on a boat with their cousins and just the shit that they get to do. Like, yeah, it's freaking cool.

SPEAKER_01

And it is crazy too that I mean I had no cousins for a while until Chase, obviously, which was ago, and it was just me chasing Kinzie for a while. That's the OG crew. And out of nowhere the last three years, there's just three more.

SPEAKER_03

There was like a whole new little uh generation.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, now there's three more.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, but you guys will always be the OGs.

SPEAKER_01

We love it.

SPEAKER_03

But I mean, okay, so like for an aunt, I'm only 12 years older than you.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And growing up, so like Nevin took that baby spot away from me, and he came in. He's just this chunky little freaking white boy. And I just was so annoyed with him, everything he did, because it was like the little brother I didn't have, and it was like, okay, he's taking the spotlight. Like, I'm nobody's, you know, I'm not the baby anymore. And then as we got older, it was like, there's a running joke. That's not really a joke, even everybody knows it, but he's the fabe. And it's like, I think he's like the um ultimate fabe of everybody, everybody knows. But like, and everybody knows it, and it's just kind of like a thing now. It's just like, okay, it's like a understood, like, okay, I get it. But yeah, now 12 years apart, but we're super close.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And it's crazy to think that I was so annoyed.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, you hated me at first. Used to torture me.

SPEAKER_03

I wrote a note to my mom, and I signed it, and it said, I will never have a kid that's annoying like Nevin. And then God was like, here's River. He's gonna double down.

SPEAKER_01

Distress just as much as I did.

SPEAKER_03

He's gonna be freaking like jackass 2.0. But I mean, like, what was it like for you growing up having me as an aunt? Because I don't think I've ever asked you that. It was my perspective was like, oh, he was annoying, but I loved you. I like, but it was more of like a brotherly, like Yeah, I feel like when I was well, when we were both younger, obviously, it was just like we were always annoyed with each other, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And I was little, so you would just make me do some crazy stuff, like watch Monster House when I was like three. Try and scare him. Yeah, I would be so scared all the time. But then as we got older, we just kept getting closer and closer.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And then obviously now we're always yeah close whenever we see each other. It's always a good time.

SPEAKER_03

We're best buds.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we're best buds. We can drink together now, too.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and now we unlocked a whole other level of this whole situation, you know. We just went to uh gambling together. I talked to them about uh, you know, Vegas. So I never thought back then when he was annoying me that we would be in Vegas gambling and drinking together. So we have we've elevated.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we're unlocking new levels.

SPEAKER_03

But okay, so you're 21 now. What is like what is something back in the day when you were in like high school or something that you're like, oh, when I'm 21, like I'm gonna be doing this, this, and this, or I'm gonna like, what did you think like your life would look like when you were 21 back then?

SPEAKER_01

I feel like when I was in high school, it was like, or at least younger in high school, I was like, I didn't really care too much because I mean I didn't like to drink at the beginning, and then towards like the end of high school, it was like we could already get drinks, we were already drinking anything.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, you're doing it.

SPEAKER_01

So I didn't really care too much about 21, but now that I am 21, I feel like it makes it so much better and easier to go out with my friends.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Like going out to like a restaurant is fun, but going to a bar, like a sports bar, it just makes it it unlocks a new level really of what you can do with your friends.

SPEAKER_03

Especially when you live in San Diego. Yeah, there's you have some of the coolest like bars and just like drinking locations. And it's not just about getting drunk, it's just it's such a social thing.

SPEAKER_01

It's about the hangout, really.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and when you crack open a cold one, it just like takes that little edge off. And I just feel like it's like a social, you know, I don't know. It just sets the tone for that type of environment. And you can let loose more.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

You talk more freely, like, you know, I don't know. It just it takes that little like awkward, like, mm-hmm what's going on?

SPEAKER_01

What's I feel like when I wasn't funny one, it's always when you're trying to plan something with your friends, it's like, oh, where are we gonna go? What are we gonna do? You have to have like the same things every time. It's yeah, what are you gonna do? Go to the movies, go to the beach. What if the weather's not yeah, you can't really go to the beach. Yeah. So now, like, just uh this weekend, me and my best friend Gavin, I was over at his house and we were like, Well, what should we do? We're like, Oh, we can go for a drink now. So we just went to a sports bar and watched the game and had a drink and then just one drink and we left. But it was a good hangout.

SPEAKER_03

Especially when you're into sports.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Because I know that like my friend group, when we were in our drinking stage in our 20s, that was a big thing. It was like, well, where are we gonna go watch the football game and who has drink specials? Or where are we going for the baseball, you know, like Dimebacks are playing? Like it all revolved around like sports and drinking. Yeah, but that's like that's your 20s. Yeah, that's what you're supposed to do. I feel like I'm reverting a little bit. I kind of I'm like, maybe it's Tyler. He thinks that maybe we're hanging out with you guys too much, but I'm like, you know what? I'm gonna throw another one back. I'm gonna, you know, I'm like, and then I'm like, at the end of the night, they're still going, and I'm like, oh, I'm freaking old as fuck because I am like my stomach hurts, I'm tired, and now my kids asking for this and this.

SPEAKER_01

Like, you know, I'm not as they keep up anymore.

SPEAKER_03

No, I mean in Vegas the first night I did, yeah, but like I could not rally the next day the way that I normally would.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, well, I couldn't either.

SPEAKER_03

And it was depressing.

SPEAKER_01

On the last day I couldn't.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. No, Nevin was Nevin was wrecked, man. But he was having a time of his life. This guy when he's super drunk is just like so giggly, and he'll get stuck on something. My dad's head sweating when he was eating peppers, and he just couldn't stop laughing.

SPEAKER_01

And then like It was the funniest thing ever.

SPEAKER_03

He couldn't stop laughing. I think Tyler was like crying. Like, yeah, it was that was a freaking fun time.

SPEAKER_01

It was.

SPEAKER_03

But okay, so there's tons of fun stuff when you're 21. But what's like a hard thing that you didn't think was going to be hard? But like now that you're getting older, like is it expectations of you, like what you thought you should be doing at 21, or like working or school, like what what's harder?

SPEAKER_01

I feel like I didn't expect how it would be when you're older and how much you actually have to have to work. Like I underestimated it for sure.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Which I feel like a lot of people do.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And not that it's a bad thing, like I don't mind it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I just didn't think it would be so much. But I feel like the expectations-wise, like with our family, they're pretty good about it. Like they're not expecting you to be like the best thing ever. Yeah. They are gonna push you to be something they want you to be good, they want you to be great, obviously. But they're not yelling at you and forcing you to do it, and I feel like that makes it easier, and it honestly motivates me more than if they were.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I think it just makes it worse when parents are yelling at you all the time and wanting to and just wanting you to follow their blueprint.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. It's like, I understand, you know, the expectations of college and this and that, but like, which it's great that year you're going to college, but like, I didn't go to college, your mom didn't go to college, and we're still successful people, and we didn't follow, you know, I went to s started going to school for child development. I'm not doing anything in the realm of that.

SPEAKER_01

Child developing river.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. So I mean, like, you don't, but the one thing that my parents, and I think like you have the same, is they just were like, they want you to be the best that you can be, but they want you to follow in your own exactly, do what you want to do. Like, don't, they're not gonna lay it out for you and be like, you need to do this, this, and this to be great. Like, it's just like challenge yourself, do the best you can. Because at the end of the day, if you're anything like me, when I look in the mirror, it's like, if I feel like I half asked something that day or something, if it's whether it's work or parenting or whatever, it's like I'm so competitive with myself. I'm just like, dude, you could have done better. Yeah. Like you gotta, you know, and I always pray to God, I'm like, God, just I know that I can be better at this, this, and this. I know I can be a better mom, a wife, a friend, a what employee. Like, I need to push myself. Like, and that's what our parents instilled in us. And I think that's the best thing you can instill in your kids for them to hold themselves that way.

SPEAKER_01

I feel like it helps from for me for from playing sports all the time too. Like it'd be so much more competitive, but it really translates into what, like when you're working or going to school, like you want to be competitive, not necessarily with others, but with yourself. You want to be the best that you can be.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Because if you're not, you just you know that, you know? I can lie to everybody and be like, oh, I worked out six days this week and I did this and that. But it's like at the end of the day, you know what you did or didn't do.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And what you know, your capabilities were you slacked. And it's like, if you can go to bed and feel good about that, then you're a different type of person.

SPEAKER_01

Definitely. In our family, no. Especially with Papa.

SPEAKER_03

No, no, no, no, no, no. But I'm trying to think back like I when I was 21 I didn't have any expectations.

SPEAKER_02

Uh-uh.

SPEAKER_03

I envy that time. Like, because now, you know, especially in the world of social media and watching other people's lives play out, it's very like, oh, I should probably be doing this, this, and this, or I should be further along, or I should be making more money, or I should have a bigger house, or I should be, you know, like it's so easy. I say it on here all the time. You can say that you're not a person that compares, but we're all human and you do compare on some level. And but when I was 21 and in my 20s, like, I didn't care about anything. I didn't care about how much money I had. I didn't care about what anyone thought. It was just like I was just living in the moment, trying to have fun, trying to enjoy people, and it's like, I miss that. It's like a yeah, you gotta enjoy that while you can't.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, it still does happen, like you see all these people on social media. Oh, I'm 19, I already made millions. Yeah, here's how I did it. And it's like, okay, well, these people, so they have that, but yeah, you have what you're doing, and everybody has their own timeline, really. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So well, and a lot of those people I was just watching, I don't know if you the Taylor Holder guy, he's on TikTok, and he he went viral a long time ago, and he's got lots of money. He was in those, I don't know, there was a group of them that lived in that house or whatever. Um, and now he's a singer and he's got this beautiful girlfriend and all these things, and you look at him like, damn, this guy's on TikTok just he fucking made so much money. He's living the life with the mansion and going here and there, and the and he just came out and was like, I gotta take a break. I'm extremely depressed. Like, I, you know, I'm trying to keep up with this life, but I don't feel happy. And it's like, just because somebody has all those things doesn't mean that like internally they're happy or satisfied with what they have going on. So it's like you can envy someone's life, but like you don't know. You're seeing highlight reels and things. Like you're not coming out. I will say your generation, because I was gonna ask you what you think, you know, our generation does. That's weird. Your generation, something you guys do good is that. I feel like on social media, your generation has been coming out more and being like, look, I'm depressed, or oh, I'm struggling with this, this, and this. Because back in my day, you didn't do that.

SPEAKER_01

No, yeah, you couldn't really do that back then. Like now there's a lot more awareness for it.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And I feel like that really makes a difference. Yeah. People to have somebody that they see, oh, this person is feeling the same way that I'm feeling. Yeah. It makes a difference for sure.

SPEAKER_03

Especially when you're having a hard week and you feel like, you know, when you're having like a hard week or a hard time, it feels very isolating, like you're like the only one. Like it seems like everyone else is so happy when that's happening or everything's going so smoothly. And then you get online and if you just see the highlight reels, it's like, damn, like, yeah, I do suck. But then you see somebody that's like, oh, I'm struggling with this, this, and this. And it's like, oh, it feels validating. Yeah. Like, okay, like a human.

SPEAKER_01

You fail a test and you ask somebody else, and they're like, oh, I failed too. Like it makes you feel better, really.

SPEAKER_03

It does. It does. We feed off of others' misery. I don't care what you say.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, I'm not the only one.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. You don't want someone coming up to you and be like, oh, I ace that shit. Yeah, like a piece of crap. Yeah. You suck. Like, go away. I don't want to be friends with you. And if I do want to be friends with you, sit closer next time because I freaking failed.

SPEAKER_02

Exactly.

SPEAKER_03

I used to copy my friend Taylor Galbreth, if you're listening. Peterson now. I think she is listening. Um I c I copied her one time and I didn't realize that we had different form bats. That's worse. So failed worse than I would have failed if I just gave. My all. But then the last day of senior year, we didn't know if I was graduating. Me and Papa didn't send out announcements. It was up to this one grade in this one class. I had to pass this final to find out if I was graduating. And Taylor's sitting next to me again. And I'm like looking, and I'm like, okay, the teachers totally turned around. And I'm like, I have no choice but to copy or hope that it's the same format. I can't like look deeply. Yeah. Shout out, Taylor. I freaking passed the class, baby. So yeah, that was the only way. I was reading the questions and it was like I was like the guy on um freaking spagoonies.

SPEAKER_00

I was like, hmm? I don't know any of this. Like, I am not graduating, but you gotta do what you gotta do. I did, and now I'm here. So cheat your way through, do what you gotta do.

SPEAKER_01

It's a lot easier to cheat now. Yeah. Just pull a chat GPT in your phone.

SPEAKER_03

Well, all these kids too. I feel like are on computers in school and stuff. Or iPads. I'm like, what? We couldn't even have our phones.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's not really there's not really much on paper anymore, honestly.

SPEAKER_03

No, I see the shit that your sister wears to school, and I'm like, I got dress coded for everything. They would come up four fingers on the strap on your shoulder, dress coded. I mean, I was in detention all the time for dress code, and I'm thinking, oh my god.

SPEAKER_01

I feel like in high school they don't really care, but at our old school, she got dress coded a lot too. Oh, yeah. Well, I believe a couple times a week, probably.

SPEAKER_03

That was me. That was your mom, too. Runs in the family, it's running down the line. But all right, so you're 21 and you are in a relationship with a girl that we love to death. I mean, if anything ever happened and they weren't together, we would be mad because we love her. She is um, she is one of us. I like to say, like Tyler always says, Sierra is Nevin and female virgin.

SPEAKER_02

For sure.

SPEAKER_03

Like just the most chill, sweetest, like down-to-earth, um cool girl. But how long have you guys been together?

SPEAKER_01

Five over five years now. Which is crazy. Yeah. I mean, it feels like that, but I was like, I think I was 16. And she was like 17 or about to be 18.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, yeah, she's our cougar.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, she is a cougar.

SPEAKER_00

Call her our cougar.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, she well, right now we're only one year apart, but once it hits February, she'll be 23 and I'll be 21.

SPEAKER_03

Oh shit. She is sugar mama.

SPEAKER_01

That too.

SPEAKER_03

But that's crazy because I think of myself at 16. The fact that your guys' relationship lasted through those maturity stages, because I was a mess at that age. So um I mean, shout out. But even like a cooler story to tell your kids later on in life, like, hey, we were together from a very young age. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Like high school.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. I mean, how did you know something was different with Sierra?

SPEAKER_01

Like it's just the way we clicked. Like, yeah. It seems like everything always worked out for us.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Like we don't we don't really fight, like, still, we never really fought too much. Like, obviously, you know, fights here and there, everybody.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, you get annoyed with each other bicker. Of course. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we're always annoyed with each other. Yeah, that's normal. That's the fun part about it.

SPEAKER_03

That's like a checklist. Like, if you're not, then it's a little red flag.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's just something with her was just always it made me feel different. Yeah. And I mean, obviously we were young, but we grew up together and we grew Yeah, that's cool too. In a way that it continued to work.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And I'm really grateful for that.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. And I mean, like something I see with you guys is like your best friends.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And I talked about this last week when I was like, you know, when I talk to friends that come to me for advice, like, oh, or you know, me and my partner are struggling or this or that. I'm like, I think, yeah, communication is a big key. But like, if you're not best friends with your partner, yeah, it makes things really hard because like you're not like you don't like each other the way you should on that level. You know, you gotta be buddies. Like, Tyler's the first person I wanna your sister's up there too. And yeah, oh, you know, my sisters are high on the list, but like Tyler gets home and I'm just like, oh, this and this, I got got stuff or this or that, or like, I don't know. I want I want him around, I want him and I mean I have a kid now.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's the same for me. I always want her to know what I'm doing in the day.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Like even today, like when we were at Garcia's, I wanted her to see like the plate that I got. Yeah, I'm gonna do that. I want her to know because we're she's not here, yeah. But I want her to know still.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And that's another reason why I feel like um we have lasted so long, too. Like you said, we're both chill, like go with the flood type of people. And in that case, like, say she wants to do something, whatever she wants to do. I'm like, okay, yeah, let's do that. Sounds fun. Because whatever makes her happy, it makes me happy too. Like I see. And she's the same way too. Like, we both do things. Maybe we both don't want to do the exact same things all the time, but we still agree.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Well, and I think you guys are really good also at like having separate lives too. Yeah. Because I've talked about that a bunch on here, that it's still important. Like, just because you're with somebody doesn't mean that you gotta be together 24-7 and you can never do anything like I can't hang out with this friend without my girlfriend or this or that. Like, Tyler and I still do a lot of stuff separately. Like, I'm like, oh, I'm going with Kelly, we're doing this, this, and this, or like, hey, he's going golfing, or he's like, I just think that's healthy. And I think if you can't trust your partner enough to do that, it goes back to the the friend thing. Like, you're not that good a friend, and the communication and the trust isn't there. Yeah. There's a link that's, you know, missing. So you guys do that really well too, because there's a lot of stuff that I feel like she goes and does with her friends, and like, you know, it's not like this, what are you doing? Where are you going? Like, you gotta be doing everything with me.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, no, it's never like that, and I really appreciate that because I hate when girls are like that. Like, I mean, it has I haven't missed it, but like seeing my friends when that happens and they're just so restricted on what they're allowed to do, it's kind of just like, I mean, you can't hang out with the boys, like, what's what's wrong with that? What are we gonna do, really?

SPEAKER_03

It's a red flag.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it is.

SPEAKER_03

It's an ultimate red flag.

SPEAKER_01

Sure.

SPEAKER_03

But I mean, so what are things that I'm trying to think, you know, like I'm married, I'll be married for six years, but Tyler and I will be together for 11 years, and I have a toddler.

SPEAKER_02

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_03

So I know my things that matter in a relationship, but at 21, like what are the key things that you guys are looking for in a relationship or like that matter? Like, what's the like, you know? Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I don't know. And kind of things that you just said, like being able to have our own lives, yeah, but also have our life together.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Like if you're always spending time together, that's great, but you need time with your friends too. Like, you need that separation.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And it it honestly helps.

SPEAKER_03

Or you want to kill each other.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. You will.

SPEAKER_03

If you're together, you're gonna end up on a date line. So yeah, definitely have separate lives, definitely live different. But I mean, looking into the future, 10 years from now, what do you see your life looking like?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I mean, I definitely want to have my own family have kids. Me and Sierra, obviously, is what I want my future to look like.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Us getting married, have kids, and I want us to travel a lot before all of that, as much as we can. And right now we're gonna be able to do a lot of that because she's coming to Spain when I'm there for a month. So we're gonna try to do one trip on the weekends.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Each weekend. So maybe go to four different maybe not countries, but four different cities at least.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Couple in Spain. We want to go to Paris too, so be well traveled for sure, and then get into having kids and have a dog. I want to get a golden retriever.

SPEAKER_03

He has to get a golden retriever. If he doesn't get a golden retriever, he missed his main goal in life. Because he is a golden retriever.

SPEAKER_01

Always wanted one. It's like that that's the goal in life, right? That's your dog.

SPEAKER_03

That's the main goal. But I it's like you say travel, and I wish I would have done more of that before like I had River. And it's crazy because in the grand scheme of things, I was like an old mom. Not old, but you know, like I always thought I'd be a mom by like 21, 22, honestly. And I wasn't until like, I don't know, I think I turned 30 when River was like only a couple months old. So like I totally could have traveled and done all that. I wish that Tyler and I would have done that because we still can, because kids don't need to stop you. But it's just harder now. And it's it'll just be a different experience because like he's like, oh, let's go to Belize or this or that. But then we also will look at each other and be like, but it'd be fun to have River there and see what he thinks of this and that. So it's just if I can give anyone advice, it's like travel and do all the cool, fun things before you have kids. Because yes, you can do them once you have kids, but the experience is different.

SPEAKER_02

For sure.

SPEAKER_03

You don't build like those connections with your partner like when you go on vacation with them. Like some of our best memories, Tyler and I, Sedona, I know it's not international, it's not anything, but like that is some of our best times going to the breweries, walking around, hiking, like hiking in the rain, like those times you build so much in your relationship that like I don't know. It's just that's the that's a goal for sure that I wish I would have done more.

SPEAKER_01

It doesn't have to be crazy places, like it can really be anywhere.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It's you spending time with your person, and you guys are getting to experience different parts of life together. Yeah. That's those matters.

SPEAKER_03

That's the goal. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Well, I mean, what do you what do you see your family dynamic looking like? I know how our family is, and I know you're close with your, you know, instant family, but like what do you guys see your family dynamic that you create looking like?

SPEAKER_01

I mean, I want it to be similar similar to this, like have our kids be close with us, obviously. Yeah. And but I want them to be close with our grandparents, yeah. Both sides, not just one, just both sides being close and being able to have um good times together all the time. It's like you want to be able to build a life for your kids that they can look back on and say, wow, that was a really good childhood. Like, you don't want your kids to be freaking traumatized.

SPEAKER_03

No, well, and not only that, but like that was fun, and like I have so many people that are like there for me and I have good relationships with.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Because like all of us, we have built-in besties that like a lot of people don't have. But you know, they're not sitting here with their nephew doing a podcast. You know what I mean? Like it's not a yeah. So, like, for your kids to have that, and like you said, both sides of grandparents, like both sides of the family, because it does make a difference, like it just having, you know, you don't want the riff between the two, and you don't want to feel like you're constantly like choosing which side to go to, like, that's not fun.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, because it really like it will it'll play a toll on kids' life, really.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

As much as you won't really be able to notice it, deep down it does for sure.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, a hundred percent. And I think our kids carry a lot more than we um think, you know?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Like as a kid, you're not sharing all your emotions, being like, oh, this bothers me, or this, or this, or this, or this, what you do. Like, you just don't really do that as a kid. And then as you get older, you realize, like, well, that kind of fucked with me a little bit, or like, hey, like, I'm a little fucked up here.

SPEAKER_01

The other thing, like, when I have kids, I want them to be able to tell me everything. Like, I want them to be hiding things because all that does is just make it worse. Like, if you're gonna do something, just let me know. And yeah, I'm pretty chill, so I probably won't care, but just let me know so I know what's happening at least. Well, honestly, I don't want it to be secrets.

SPEAKER_03

Like they used to always say, like, yeah, we might be disappointed in you, but we're always gonna be here for you. We're always, you know what I mean? Like, we'd rather know than you just constantly hide stuff from us or or feel like we're not people that you like wanna look up to or live up to, you know what I mean? Like, you don't wanna go into parenting and be like, I don't want to be my parents, you know what I mean? Like, but there's so many people out there that that's like the life they live, or like, oh, I don't want to live the way my family did, or I don't want to repeat, you know. And there are certain things that you don't want to repeat that your family does because we're all different. But you want to create something for yourself that like mimics like, hey, I had such a good life that I want my kids to be able to experience like what I did for sure. Because we're awesome and we're lucky, you know? Like we're sitting here going into a weekend, and if you think about it, there's gonna be I don't know, like freaking 30, 40 of us.

SPEAKER_02

A lot of us.

SPEAKER_03

And we all have a good time though.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

We can all come out here and mesh, and like everyone when we're all out here, it's like it's family, and we're all like we're getting along, we're having fun, like, and your people are our people. Exactly. Yeah, it's like if well, if you're bringing them, then they must be cool because I trust you, and you know what I mean? So a lot of diversity, but we work, yeah, we mesh all very well together, so that's always cool. But you mentioned, because I was gonna talk about this, is the last thing I was gonna talk about, that she's coming to visit in Spain. So tell everyone about your Spain adventure that's coming up.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so I'm actually lucky enough to be able to study abroad in Spain for a semester, which is like four months. I'm gonna leave at the end of August and stay till right before Christmas time. And I'm an international business major, so it's like it's part of my um degree requirement. Like, I have to go study abroad to graduate, which I think is really cool, and it's a reason why I chose that major.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And so yeah, I'm going to Spain, I'm going to Bilbao, which is uh um in northern Spain. It's kind of like a beachy town. If you want to like I've looked it up and to compare it to like a US city, it's kind of similar to Seattle in a way, how there's like a little bit of rainy weather, but it's still like a big city and there's a lot around it. A lot of things. Yeah, it's I'm so really excited. A lot of good food, too.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, I'm excited for you. He was showing me this gluten-free place that I was like, oh man. Only thing I'm not excited for you, I'm gonna be completely honest, is that flight.

SPEAKER_01

That's gonna be tough for sure.

SPEAKER_03

I get claustrophobic on flights, so I'm like, if I'm taking it's like what, 17 hours?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, I think total flight time maybe a little bit less. But yeah, with layovers, it's like a 17 or 18 hour travel day.

SPEAKER_03

I'd have to be I'd have to pay Buku Bucks on one of those really fancy planes where I got to lay down. Even then.

SPEAKER_01

Oh that's me and Sierra, because Sierra hates flying, so we were actually like kind of looking into that for when she ends up coming.

SPEAKER_00

Because she's gonna come alone, right?

SPEAKER_01

She's coming alone, so that makes it even harder.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god. My girl.

SPEAKER_01

But uh, yeah, we were looking at those and the the lay down flights are just like ten thousand dollars, just insane prices. So you can get like premium economy, which is like a step up, and there's like more leg room, you can recline your seat like a pretty good amount.

SPEAKER_03

And maybe a layover, honestly.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, that's what I said. I would do a layover.

SPEAKER_03

Just have a long layover in like New York or somewhere where you can just go out, like yeah, I don't know, go get a bagel or yeah, walk around for even if you're just freaking in the airport and you're you grab a drink and you grab food and you like just to s get like walk around and get off the plane. Yeah, I feel like that would ground me a little bit. I would do that. I'd rather I'd rather do labor. And it's probably cheaper.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So because it makes it cheaper for sure. But okay, so you're there and you don't really know anybody, right? Like not really.

SPEAKER_01

Not it's not like the guy that I am gonna live with, the only re like he goes to my school and he's the only other one going to the school in Spain. So it's like, okay, well, we might as well be friends. And he is cool, but it's like it's not somebody that I know.

SPEAKER_03

It's not like a Gavin or a chance. Yeah. And you guys will be living in like what, like a little apartment or a little flat thing.

SPEAKER_01

I ended up getting like a we both just booked a room in the same place, and it's a four-bedroom like apartment, I think. It's on the first floor, so it's like a little house. Yeah. But yeah, there's four bedrooms, so there's gonna be four people there, and we're two of them. The other two, we have no idea who they are, so you're about to find out. It's a little bit of a risk, but yeah, you'll find out.

SPEAKER_03

They might be like later on in life, you're like, Oh, these are my best friends. Yeah, you never know, really. You never know.

SPEAKER_01

I'm not sure, like so, like what will you be age or yeah, anything.

SPEAKER_03

What will you be doing every day? Is it classes or is it like work?

SPEAKER_01

So when I like when I am in I have school there, so it's classes, and it's like I'm taking business classes, but they're in Spanish.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so I'm gonna be doing that, and I'm hoping to get a schedule where I have Tuesday through Thursday classes, so Friday through Monday, I can just travel. I want to go to a new city like every weekend.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, get the most out of it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah for sure. I want to go see as much as I can.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, because that's a once in a lifetime thing.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. What you're doing. And when you say in Europe, everything it's like maximum, it's like gonna be like a two-hour flight. So it's like you might as well.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. I mean, if you're there and you can, then do it because it's again one of those things that's just like once in a lifetime. Not everybody gets to experience that. And probably some of the best memories that you'll never forget.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, for sure. I'm super excited for that.

SPEAKER_03

That's gonna be super cool. I can't wait to hear all this stuff. I want to come visit you, but I'm gonna have to do some kind of I'm gonna have to do some kind of super layover situation because god damn, that's gonna be tough.

SPEAKER_01

It is, for sure.

SPEAKER_03

So are you nervous at all? Like, or are you because you're also gonna be leaving your family in Sierra, and I know they're coming to visit and they're bringing you there and this and that, but like, are you scared?

SPEAKER_01

Um, honestly, I feel like I'm not that nervous or scared for it a little bit for like when I travel to other places and I'm like, because I want to go to a lot of places and go by myself, and I'm like, Yeah, I'm thinking about like staying at like a hostel or something. I'm like, well, how's that gonna go? But yeah, I just want to experience and see how it goes really. But overall, for it, I'm not too nervous. Like, I feel like when I stayed in the dorms, it was a similar situation. Like, obviously, I was still in San Diego, but it was still I was living on my own with a friend, yeah. And it's like I didn't see my family or Pierre or anybody much.

SPEAKER_03

It's uncomfortable, but it's always one of those things that's like it's only uncomfortable because it's new.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And then you actually get out of your shell more than you would if you did have like Gavin or Tits or somebody with you, you know, or your family.

SPEAKER_01

Like Yeah, I honestly I like that aspect of it. Like that I don't know anybody because it forces you to make new friends. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Well, and do different things than you would do if your friends were there or if your family was there. Like you're gonna experience stuff that you wouldn't if you were in your comfort zone.

SPEAKER_01

And it's kind of like a lot of people don't like being alone, but I like it a lot. Yeah. Not always, but sometimes because you can do what you like, exactly what you like. Yeah. No matter what. You don't have to do what anybody else does.

SPEAKER_03

500 plans. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So what is your uh like what do you you come back from Spain and what do you hope that you like learned or like you're bringing back with you from that whole entire experience?

SPEAKER_01

Well, I definitely want my Spanish to get better. Even though it's already good, I want it to be like white boy that speaks Spanish over here wants to be better at it. I want it to be even better. And I want to also just learn a lot of culture. I want to have like a lot of friends that I can say are like, okay, I know like this is a lifetime friend. Like I want to have friends in yeah, different places that I can talk to and visit all the time. All over from different worlds. Yeah, exactly. Like that's a big thing in life. Yeah. And especially for me, what I want to do is like I want to make a lot of connections because I want to be in the business world.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And connections are everything really well, and I feel like you're good at that naturally.

SPEAKER_03

So, like, that's that's a good trait that you already have that you'll carry into like that. So you're I feel like you're in the right realm of things for yourself.

SPEAKER_01

I hope it works out over there and I make a lot of close friends.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I mean, I don't think you can go wrong.

SPEAKER_01

When I get back, I mean I'll have one more semester at SDSU and then I'll be graduating. So I'm looking forward to that, and then looking into getting into the job market, or I mean, I want to start my own business. Maybe that won't be right away. Maybe I'll get a job first and then find out what I want to do.

SPEAKER_03

You never know what different experiences within the job world kind of spring you into what you're like, oh, okay. I do want to start my own business, or oh, I want to because I don't want to be like this one, or you know what I mean? Like there's so much stuff that you can learn from the experiences, good and bad, that kind of draw you where you're supposed to go. But I mean, does that always look like San Diego? This is the question. It's really important.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, San Diego, it's like it's obviously it's one of the best places to live, and I love living there. But it's like if I can find a if there's a better job opportunity somewhere else, I mean Phoenix depends where it is. If it's in Phoenix, I would I would for sure move to Phoenix. I would jump for joy. That's definitely Arizona is definitely another place that I would like. There's not that many other places that I would want to live. Yeah. Besides San Diego. Hey, Phoenix isn't that bad. But Phoenix, I would Phoenix is actually cool.

SPEAKER_03

We have a lot of stuff. Yes, it's hot in the summer. I get it. But we have lakes, we have Sedona, we have so many things so near to us, and our winters are top tier.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. And it's like in the summer, I'll just come back to San Diego. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Well. And look. Do I spend my whole summer just sitting in Phoenix? No, most of the time we're here where I go to San Diego. We're like, that's such a short. And again, our winters are the best. I don't care what anyone says, it's the perfect weather. Yeah, it really is. Like, so don't count us out, okay?

SPEAKER_00

Don't count us out on the running. Well, I hope you end up in Arizona secretly.

SPEAKER_01

Your mom won't hate me, but I I don't know. But if there's something there that I like, there's a good job, I'll I would move there for sure because there's family there. And I I like Phoenix. Like I've always loved being there. There's a lot. There's honestly a lot more to do than people put out there.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. They just think the heat, the heat, the heat, the heat. Give it a rest.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Like San Diego, Phoenix, or for me, like I just went to New York like a year or two ago. And I would live there for sure. Like that's something. Yeah. You need top dollar money. Oh, yeah. Only if there's like a huge job opportunity over there, I would live there.

SPEAKER_03

I think I could see myself ending up, and Tyler will vouch he feels the same, like in Tennessee or somewhere. Yeah. Like, you know, small town feels, but you got acreage and farm life, and like I could s I could see that later on in life for sure. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Me and Sierra always send each other like Instagrams like that. It'll be like one of those listings. It's like 500,000, and you get this ginormous modern house with a pool. Yeah. You live on like 10 acres. Please. It's just in the middle of nowhere.

SPEAKER_00

But I just sent you that Italy one site.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

330 something.

SPEAKER_01

I was like, I'm out of here.

SPEAKER_00

See y'all. Bye-bye.

SPEAKER_03

But no, definitely living through experiences and memories. Like, if I could give you any advice, I mean, you already got it. You got it more figured out than I did at your age. But if I could give advice, it's just like enjoy where you're at and what you have. Because one day, you know, we live this life where we just constantly are wishing for more and wanting more. And oh, we need this and we need that. And you stop and you're like, whoa, I'm literally living in a moment that I once prayed for or thought was like totally far-fetched for me to reach. And it's like you've got to spend time like enjoying where you're at, enjoying the people around you and creating memories. Like that is life. No, um so that's the advice I could give, but it sounds like it sounds like you got it. You've got it figured out the moment. Yeah, living in the moment. Yeah. Sure. Definitely.

SPEAKER_01

And enjoying those moments.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. But I want to end on the note of like two things. What do you want your kids to remember you for? Or like what do you want them to say about you? Like, oh, my dad was this, this, and this.

SPEAKER_01

Like, you know, like I want them to remember me as the best dad for sure.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I want them to have me as somebody that's a role model. Like when you ask kids and they say that their dad is their role model, not like some, I don't know, some athlete. Superhero or an athlete. Like they say, oh, my dad. Like, I want my kids to be able to say that.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Yeah. That's a good one. And I mean, what do you just in general in life, what do you want to be remembered for? Like, what is your if you get to the end of your life and you're like, oh, I was this, this, and this, or people remembered me as this and I I did it.

SPEAKER_01

I want people to remember me as somebody that was always, like we said, living in the moment with them. Yeah. But also somebody that's like I don't know how to really put it, like, not friends with everybody, but like you kind of just go.

SPEAKER_03

You're capable of being friends with everybody. You're so, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Wasn't ever like ruining a moment, like always somebody that was kind of like the life of the party, really.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. You are though. You're you're a golden retriever, dude.

SPEAKER_01

Not necessarily like not necessarily like when I say life of the party, I don't mean like literally at parties, but somebody that just can make an impact on somebody else's life. Like they won't remember me.

SPEAKER_03

That they're genuinely happy to be around you. Exactly. I mean, Tyler says that all the time after we're done hanging out. He's like, you genuinely want to be around Nevin. Uh-huh. Like you're drawn to him because he just is so like he's so welcoming. He's so who he is, and he makes you feel good, and he has fun with you, and you don't feel judged, and like you, you're drawn to him. Like, so you're already doing it, bro. Well, you're already on it. On track, at least. Yeah, you're on track.

SPEAKER_01

Gotta keep being authentic and true to myself.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. But thank you for coming on, and I want to have you on when you come back from Spain.
