Talk to the Hosts of AYP!

In Episode 10 of the Argue Your Point Podcast, Jeff and Mason cover a packed slate of sports topics, starting with the latest free agent signings and what they mean for teams heading into the offseason. The conversation then shifts to one of the wildest NHL games of the season as the Buffalo Sabres and Tampa Bay Lightning combined for a historic offensive explosion. Jeff and Mason break down the stats behind the game, including Tage Thompson’s four assist night that extended his point streak to 11 games, a seven player three point performance across both teams, and a matchup that featured 102 penalty minutes and six special teams goals. They also discuss Buffalo’s recent surge, winning seven straight games and holding one of the best records in the league over their last 35 games.

The debate continues in the NFL with a quarterback discussion in Atlanta as Tua Tagovailoa and Michael Penix Jr. compete for the starting job. Jeff and Mason run through a rapid fire segment debating who should start Week 1, who has the higher ceiling in the Falcons offense, and which quarterback could still be leading the team in 2027. The episode also dives into the Buffalo Bills signing of Bradley Chubb and whether the move strengthens the pass rush or creates new cap challenges. They break down the pros and cons of the deal, including Chubb’s production, injury history, and how the signing could affect the Bills draft strategy.

The guys also examine the developing situation involving Maxx Crosby and Trey Hendrickson, discuss the projected first round of the upcoming NFL Draft, and finish the show by looking ahead to the PGA Players Championship with a breakdown of the betting odds and the favorites heading into one of golf’s biggest tournaments.

SPEAKER_00

Welcome to the Argue Your Point Podcast. Here are your hosts, Jeff Leetri and Mason Leetri.

SPEAKER_03

All right, and here we are once again. We are back at it. It is episode now. It's 13. Yeah, we said 13 last time we were wrong. Last time it was 12. Uh, we're on to 13. We haven't missed a week since we started. That's awesome. Yeah. So um we've got lots of followers now. People are listening to us.

SPEAKER_02

Someone from um Spain did.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, yeah?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, we're all in Madrid.

SPEAKER_03

Cool. Cool. Yeah. Hey, we welcome all sports fans. And maybe that guy um, you know, wants to stay um in tune with the local Buffalo community, which we provide here, unlike the guys over at WGR, where all they do is agree with each other. But anyways, I digress.

SPEAKER_02

Taking shots now.

SPEAKER_03

Taking shots, yeah. Cut your act, guys. Act real. So, anyways, this morning went to Wagmans, and I was uh was going shopping. I I did all my shopping, and um when you're when you're done, you know, you kind of look for like your favorite checkout person, you know, like easy going, cool person. So um, and there's a couple of them there, you know, and then there's a couple you don't really know. So I got in this line. Um, there's only only two lines. The one with the person, the casher that I liked, it said 13 items or less, and I had way more than that. So I go to the other one. And uh, so I I put my recyclable bags on the conveyor belt, and uh, you know, she takes it out and she starts doing the process, putting her putting the food in there. It's like, oh, wait a minute, I forgot my coffee cup. She's like, What coffee cup? What coffee cup? I'm like, it's it's in that bag somewhere. And I would have I would have grabbed it and took it, but she's just like, Where? She puts her hands in there, and it's like a black yeti, you know. When I was drinking it, I was like, Oh, started giving me a stomachache. So I just kind of put it in those bags, and then it somehow got turned upside down and all over, and then went down the conveyor belt. And I was like, My coffee. She picks it up upside down, it's like drizzling down onto like the the back of her counter and then like on her arm and running down her elbow. I was like, I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry. And she didn't say she didn't say, like, oh, that's no problem, nothing. You know, she was just like, Oh my gosh, people put in coffee coffee cups with I didn't I said a coffee cup was in there. I didn't tell her that there was coffee still in the coffee cup. She just probably just thought, like, it's just uh empty coffee cup. No, there was coffee in there. And then she's like, Well, these are all wet. Can't use those. I'm like, I'm like, no, that's fine, you know, just use them anyway. She's like, Well, I don't want getting my hands all wet. I was like, all right, you know, get give me the tissue and I'll wipe them down. There was like there was they weren't wet. I was the whole time I was like pretending I was I was wiping them down. I'm like, all right, they're all set now. You can use them. I didn't really do anything. There was like a little spot on the counter I wiped up. But, anyways, yeah. Um, she um she was not happy with me. Not not that I like, you know, I was trying to be, you know, I was a little embarrassed, you know. I told her that I was sorry many times, but um, yeah, she wasn't having it. Wasn't having it. All right. Um, a lot to discuss in the world of sports as it relates to the NFL, the Buffalo Bills, the NHL, and the Atlantic Division leading Buffalo Sabres. We'll get to all that. Um Mason, how you doing today?

SPEAKER_02

Good.

SPEAKER_03

Come on, give me more than that, more than just good.

SPEAKER_02

I'm doing good.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, how was school today?

SPEAKER_02

Good.

SPEAKER_03

Did you what was interesting? What's one thing that was interesting that happened today that you know, me and my world, I would have no idea what it's like to be back in in middle school.

SPEAKER_02

Um good.

SPEAKER_03

No, come on. Did you did you have what'd you have for lunch?

SPEAKER_02

Um, I don't remember. It's like a taco, I think.

SPEAKER_03

Taco. Yeah. When you get the taco, do they scoop it out with ice cream scoopers? The meat. See, they always did that with me.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, it's like I don't remember like ice cream scoop, it's like something different.

SPEAKER_03

It's kind of like one, but it's not see they used actual ice cream scoopers.

SPEAKER_02

It was the one where you can click the little button and it would like um the button on the side and it would scoop out um whatever it was. I think they probably just use spoons or something, like a ladle.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

It might have been ice cream spoons. I don't know. But um, you want to talk about some NFL?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Let's do it.

SPEAKER_02

Um I've got it'd be really cool for like a little transition sound.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah, we could we can hook that up. Um we actually got a couple of them here. There's one. We could even do what about if we just did the uh record scratch? No, that's that's when you say something embarrassing or something like that. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, um, so there are a ton of signings and train C, but I only highlighted a couple of ones I thought were pretty cool.

SPEAKER_03

Yep. So let's um let's start at the top.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, Jalen Phillips went from the Eagles to the Panthers. A um Edge Rusher four-year deal, uh $30 million per year, $80 million at signing. Or no, $0.00 signing.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, zero at signing, but eighty guaranteed. Um edge rushers are maybe the third most important position in all of football. Yeah. Um, it's becoming so, so important, and the elite ones get paid massively. Um and even if you're not elite, if you're an edge, my gosh, you could um make a ton of money. And right now there is a a high, high um priority on that position throughout the whole league, you know, and um, you know, it goes along with you know, my philosophy and how to win in the NFL is to disrupt the quarterback. You know, that's what you know how often do we get after the quarterback? How many sacks? You know, we've got um I don't know, uh maybe I'm jumping ahead here on a little tangent. We got Rousseau, um, but he he um he can't do it alone. I mean, he keeps he's not like the stud of the team. He needs um he needs another stud. And we'll get and we I think I think we possibly got that. We'll we'll get into that a little bit later. But uh yeah, Jalen Phillips, 120, and then Alec Pierce. We talked about possibly signing him, and you kind of shot that right down because you're like, no, he wants 30 million. And there was talk about him, oh 1520, maybe 25, maybe north of 25. Um, and he got about yeah, he got north of 25, not quite 30, somewhere in between. Um is he worth it? We'll see. I don't know. He's um supposed to be good route runner. Um and uh yeah, I mean, and he's got he's got great. I know I know he's one of those most sought-after free agent wide receivers. Um and yeah, he stays with the Colts, re-signs with the Colts. Go ahead, Mason.

SPEAKER_02

Um, also, do we have the little breaking news button?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we do.

SPEAKER_02

Can we click it?

SPEAKER_03

Sure. We can listen to the breaking news. So the You got something going on right now?

SPEAKER_02

Breaking news. Cowboy the trading defensive tackle, Oza Odecuza, Odiguza, to 49ers and change for a 2026 third round pick.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. Wait, what position?

SPEAKER_02

Defensive tackle.

SPEAKER_03

Defensive tackle for a third round pick.

SPEAKER_02

So the Cowboys trading defensive tackle to the 49ers for a third round pick.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. All right.

SPEAKER_02

Also, um, the bills restructured Josh Allen's contract eight hours ago. Thought we'd just put that in there. Yep.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's that's like restructuring, they're just moving money around. That's just like an accountant doing that.

SPEAKER_02

I don't really know. I mean, I look at the I search up Josh Allen's structure. It says 15, the NFL says 12, and the rest is 40. I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, they move money around. That's what you know, the sometimes they put it into a guarantee, they um they take it out of a guarantee, they put it in the back end, I don't know. It's like I said, it's just like accountants working with the GM and saying, like, and lawyers, what can we do here? How do we how do we fit this all in? I want to have this much, I need this much, and that's what they do, that's what they're paid to do. Um, and they um have been doing more and more of that lately, and they don't even need to contact the player before doing it. They can just do it. And then they find they go up on Twitter and they find out, oh my contract was restructured. How do you know? Um, I'm trending.

SPEAKER_02

Mind um turning down your microphone? Turn down my microphone? There you go. There you're level or um level. Also, um some more breaking news, but not really breaking. Um Dolphin signing Titan Ben Sims to a one-year deal.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, how much?

SPEAKER_02

Uh yeah, you don't know. Tom Pelarusso.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we got um we um got Dawson Knox, we signed him to um what really equates to, well, it's a three-year deal, but it re he's got one year left on his contract, so they added two years. It's really two well, it's kind of like a two-year extension of the callant, a three-year deal. Um but um boy, not even sure what he's getting paid.

SPEAKER_02

Ring the button again. Okay, we've got another uh trade.

SPEAKER_03

Is it a big one?

SPEAKER_02

It's a it's a trade.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. Literally just happened a few seconds ago. All right.

SPEAKER_02

Another trade. Dallas ascending defensive lineman, Solomon Thomas, and a seventh round pick to the Titans exchange for another seventh round pick.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

A little weird, but it's a uh it's a trade.

SPEAKER_03

So if it's if it's you know, if you got like a trade that involves a second or seven or first, sevens. If you have a trade that involves a second or first, then you know that's that's break. I'll turn the volume all the way up in the on the uh breaking news button.

SPEAKER_02

Well, it was a trade, so I'm gonna keep this on this live.

SPEAKER_03

Um, some of the more notable ones, um, another edge, um Udafe Owe. Owe. Um, I know that that name's kind of hard to say. But uh four years, a hundred million. Um yeah, okay.

SPEAKER_02

Do you want to take over? Can I take over real quick?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, go for it.

SPEAKER_02

Tyler Linderb Tyler Linderbaum was the best centers in the game. Yep. Went to the Raiders, 81 million. Also, one fun fact. Over all the contracts, that so far, it's about two billion dollars. Wow. Yep. Wandell Robinson to the Titans, Romeo Daubs went to the Patriots. Do we have a boo button for that? A lot of divisions. The Jets actually haven't made a single move.

SPEAKER_03

No, I don't think I have a boo button.

SPEAKER_02

I don't have a boo button.

unknown

No, I don't think so.

SPEAKER_02

I guess I'll have to do ourselves. Boo. Malik Willis went to the Dolphins. Now that is something he played pretty good as a backup. Uh um, I actually missed it.

SPEAKER_03

I've got a trade button. So next time you next time there's a trade, I'll play that button.

SPEAKER_02

It's just a goal horn.

SPEAKER_03

No, that's a trade horn, it's called. So, anyways, um, some of the more notable ones, you know, Travis Etienne, um, he goes to the Saints for a four-year deal, $52 million for running back, um, Rashid Shahid, someone that we were we knew was gonna be a free agent. We wanted to um he was he was, you know, in uh in the rumor mill um of being traded at the deadline. He didn't, he re-signs with Seattle for three years or 51 million five three years, 51 million. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Um five-year deals, just four and three so far. But it's called Jange. Uh and Travis ETN went to the Saints. Big deal there.

SPEAKER_03

You mentioned that already.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, I did? Yeah. Okay, I'm gonna go.

SPEAKER_03

Kenneth Walker goes to the Chiefs. The Chiefs, and then um Pacheco. Pacheco, I think no, I don't have a boo button. Pacheco um Pacheco. He signed somewhere else. So let's go back to the third most expensive one, Trey Hendrickson. Okay, $120 million. Um I think Pacheco goes to the let's talk about the Max Crosby then.

SPEAKER_02

I think Pacheco went to the Lions. One year, $1.8 million.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, he went to the right, right. And then I think Montgomery went somewhere.

SPEAKER_02

Montgomery went to the Texas Texans trade. That was a trade, but okay.

SPEAKER_03

Sorry.

SPEAKER_02

Oh boy.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, the Max, here it is. This is what I was looking for. Um I wrote down or I wrote down some of my thoughts on the whole Max Crosby, Trey Hendrickson situation. You could see there that he signed a huge, huge deal. I I think I just mentioned this, four years, $112 million. All right. They were going to the Ravens, that is, sign they reportedly were gonna sign Max Crosby, giving away two first rounds, and there might have been something else in there, too.

SPEAKER_02

Whoa, we're talking about trades now?

SPEAKER_03

We're talking about Max Crosby.

SPEAKER_02

We're not talking about Bradley Chubb or Mike Evans or Devin Lloyd.

SPEAKER_03

No, we're talking about Max Crosby. This is not a trade, this is a free agent signing.

SPEAKER_02

What about Mike Evans going to the 49ers?

SPEAKER_03

Listen, just listen to what I'm saying. Max Crosby, he was the biggest free agent on the market, pretty much, arguably, and he reportedly is going to the Ravens. He's like, bye-bye, Raiders, Las Vegas, um, here comes the Ravens. And then um they get a physical, every team does a physical differently. They apparently, you know, like they they give them so so he had surgery eight weeks ago. They look at their MRI, they look at the the reports and the information from the doctors, from you know, from the you know, you could say the player or the the team side of the doctors with the Ravens um team side of their doctors, and they're looking at it. And you know, eight weeks after surgery, maybe no one's going too pass a physical. Um, but you have to take all that into account, you know, and and how is the recovery going from that eight weeks? And apparently it was going well. I don't know. But um, but then they they they basically have cold feet, like um like if you're buying a house and and you make a deal, but then you go in and then you get you get the home inspection, they say, you know, like your roof's leaking and uh house rotting. Yeah, yeah, you got cracks in the walls, the foundation's not that great. Then you're like, mmm, it's still a good house, you can still buy it, but you're like, uh I don't think so. However, how peculiar they then they just sign Trey Hendrickson. They admit to have talked been talking to Trey Hendrickson from you know weeks before, at the same time that they were talking to Crosby. And I believe that Trey Hendrickson was their backup plan. You know, they they didn't know if he was gonna sign with the Ravens, they didn't know um what direction that was gonna go in. When they got the kind of like the green light with Trey Hendrickson, they um they backed out of the Crosby thing because giving up two first rounds um is way more steep than what they got for Trey Hendrickson. Yeah, think about it and and what they'd have to pay, you know, it's given two first rounds um and his contract. Um so they can kind of, you know, so I think they just uh play them a little bit and really um put the the Raiders in a in a very difficult position because now um you know I don't think Crosby can get two first rounds for whoever is possibly wanting to trade for them. Um I don't think I think his stock went down a little bit, but you know, another team they want to look into Max Crosby, they're gonna do their due diligence, they're not gonna just base it off me to reports, but um yeah, that's how I think that whole thing went down. I don't I don't think that they ever intended on signing both Trey Hendrickson and Max Crosby, even though that's what Trey will say that he was being told. You know, it's like oh I thought he was gonna be my teammate. No, no, that was never that was never gonna go down like that. So that's that's my that's my take on Max Crosby in the Trey Hendrickson situation. Do you have anything to add to that?

SPEAKER_02

No, I think you really summed it up. Also summed up like five minutes of that, but uh I'm gonna talk about the bottom but um uh Mike Evans, what is the 49ers, $42 million three-year deal, which is what interesting.

SPEAKER_03

Three-year deal is interesting because um a lot of people think people were thinking he was gonna do a one-year deal.

SPEAKER_02

But Devin Lloyd to the Panthers. Panthers got Jalen Phillips and Devin Lloyd. So I think that's um also we can have one more player. Um we're gonna talk about Bradley Chubb later about him, but um I think that's really gonna be um all we got for free agency.

SPEAKER_03

Well, why not talk about Bradley Chubb?

SPEAKER_02

He signed three-year deal, 43 and a half million, 14 million average, and he had no signing bonus, but he got twenty-nine million dollars guaranteed.

SPEAKER_03

Yep, that's um that's not a bad price, right? 43 million. So if you if you're looking at this, you know, this oh I'm looking at this free agent sign in. It goes from highest total value on down. So Jalen Phillips is number one at 120 million. And then as you go down, let's see, like 10, 20, maybe 25. I'm not counting exactly. He's he's down there down to like 25th signing. He's an edge. Let me see what how many edges are there? Let's see, there's one, two, three, a lot, four, five, six, seventh. He's the seventh, the seventh highest paid free agent edge rusher. That puts it in perspective, you know, it really does. Um, he's uh he's he's like a name, you know. Um he's well, we'll get into that. He's dealt with some injuries, we'll we'll get into that. Um, but I think we're actually gonna switch gears here a little bit.

SPEAKER_02

Also, I just want to note here the bills have two million dollars in cap space right now.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, well, you know, they'll figure it out. Like I said, they've got they've got accountants that work for Pagula, and um if they need to um move some stuff around, they will.

SPEAKER_02

Jamar Hamlin actually is gonna be a free agent.

SPEAKER_03

And there could be like stuff that just doesn't come off the box until June 1st and stuff like that.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, um, just want to say here, yeah. I was just taking a look at the um report for how much cap space we have. Joey Bosa, whenever he's gonna go. Darius Slay, technically we had him, so whenever he's gonna end off.

SPEAKER_03

What's your point?

SPEAKER_02

Uh my point is here, there are a lot of big guys leaving. Matt Milano's gonna be leaving.

SPEAKER_03

Yep.

SPEAKER_02

Trey Day is leaving, Taylor Rapp, wasn't it?

SPEAKER_03

Matt Milano, he uh he might get replaced in the draft. We might have a good replacement for him.

SPEAKER_02

The thing is, um, they're probably just gonna uh draft a cheaper, younger guy. Like, why would you pay ten million dollars for I don't know, uh Damar Hamlet or whatever how much when he could draft Manuel McNear war or someone like that?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Well, I mean Damar Hamlin, who doesn't get paid ten million dollars?

SPEAKER_02

Five three million if it's how much like that, probably three.

SPEAKER_03

Um yeah, and and you can g I mean if you draft you know, anyone in a like a linebacker in the first round, you're hoping he's gonna be a stud, you know, and be with your team for a long time. And you're right. The right now Is the Josh Allen primers. So if you can get a lot of production out of a guy in a rookie deal early, um, you don't really have to pay pay the all that much for those guys. So um you know that's the strategy right there. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Do you smell that?

SPEAKER_03

I don't I don't have a smell, so it smells like rotten eggs. Oh really.

SPEAKER_02

That's horrible in here.

SPEAKER_03

Maybe it's the uh the laundry room, some of the water. Sometimes it smells like that.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Okay. Uh we're gonna go to the Sabres versus Tampa.

SPEAKER_01

Sabres on a war path!

SPEAKER_03

That's right. Yester yesterday, actually. Okay, so we're we'll get into the the Sabres Tampa game, which was a historic game. But yesterday, um, they fouled that up with a 6-3 win over the San Jose Sharks, and you could hear the crowd at the end of the game saying Sabres on a war path. You could hear who ha sabres on a war path, whoo, ha, sabers on a war path.

SPEAKER_04

Horrible.

SPEAKER_03

Um so um so yeah, that that was a historic, historic game. Sabres lightning. It was the sixteenth time in NHL history, um, and the tenth time uh since the expansion area in um 1960, uh, where both teams combined for at least seven goals in at least two periods of a single game. Um that's the first time since 1992. Um that was um yeah, seven goals in the second period, only one in the first, seven in the second, seven in the third, and it was just a roller coaster of a game. It was it had everything, it had over a hundred penalty minutes. Um what does it say here? Yeah, so Tage Thompson, he had four assists, so he's now riding an 11-game point streak, and um 11 players on um well no no 11 players total had three points in the game. So there was uh Jason Zucker, Rasmus Dallin, Bo Byrum, and on the lightning, Nikita Kucharov, um Dan Rash, and JJ Moser. So that's um that was historically. It was the first time since 2007 that NHL game featured that many players that had three-point games, three points or more. Do you want to um jump in here?

SPEAKER_02

Seven straight wins. NHL best twenty-eight and five two record of the best thirty-five games since seven nines. Um we're we are top five in the league standard stage season, and um first time since their president's trophy winning season, oh six-07, Fabers are now also leading their division late of the season. First time since 09-10.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's incredible. You know, and I read a I read a stat the other day that okay, this season we were eleven-fourteen and four. And then um and now we have reached forty wins before we have reached twenty losses. So now we are um we're 40-19 and six. We went from eleven, fourteen and four to forty, nineteen, and six. That is so incredible. It's the it's the first time the Sabres have had um two eight game winning streaks. First time in history. It's a historical run, and it's just awesome. That game was just that game was just the team just saying, we are back. You know? It was like we are back, we are the fans are on their feet. The fans will will show up when you win in Buffalo, they'll sell out, ticket prices will start going back up. There'll be a party in the plaza, uh, warm weather, playoff hockey. Man, for the past 14 years, I've I've I still watch playoff hockey, you know, when the sabers aren't in it. But that's just because I just really love hockey and and enjoy watching the playoffs, and it's it's a different form of hockey than the regular season. And now we're gonna be able to experience it with the sabers in it.

SPEAKER_02

I'll be able to experience it.

SPEAKER_03

But um Yeah, exactly. You'll be able to experience it for the first time ever.

SPEAKER_02

You know what I noticed about this um podcast. We didn't um put this eight. We didn't talk about BAM and the Bayo.

SPEAKER_03

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_02

81 or 83 points. Insane. That was this little side note, but there people think he was cheating the game, surpassing Kobe's uh 81 point.

SPEAKER_03

Well, I think, yeah, I know I heard that today. So it seemed, I guess at the end, like they were purposely like the other team was um following him and he went to the line like multiple times.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I wonder why.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I don't know, because maybe they wanted him to get the record. I don't know. Why would an opposing team I don't know? I I did hear a couple things about that. Um and the Wilt Chamberlain, he scored 100 points, but there was no video of him.

SPEAKER_02

No, no one knows what happened. Could have been like like when he scored his words. Um when he dunked it and he grabbed the ball and you went through the net like ten times, you'd be like 20. Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_03

That's funny. But um going back to that Sabres game, there was 102 penalty minutes in the game, six special team goals, five scored by the Sabres, one was short-handed, four on the power play. Um yeah, and Sam Carrick, he scored. He um he scored a big one. I I think it I think it tied the game at six. I'd have to look it up. But um he talked on the radio the next day. He said he'll never forget that game forever. He said friends were texting him saying that was the greatest game they had ever seen in their life. Um it was all over the meeting, it was all over Twitter. Twitter was blowing up, it was saying that was the best game I've ever seen. Um crazy was uh was used a lot, and it it was, it was just it was so emotional. It was it was awesome. It was like we are back, we're back on top, and we're kind of bullies, and we're relentless, no matter how hard you come at us, no matter how much you target Dallin and um over and over and over again, and no, how much more experience Tampa has at number one playing that style game, number two, winning Stanley Cups, and just um playing, you know, when you play in the playoffs, you play more than teams that don't play in the playoffs. So they have got a lot more experience just just by that, just you know, just by the sheer number of how many games that they play. Um and to walk into you know, and to to get embarrassed the week before getting their their the starting goalie chased out of the net by letting them four goals and in just a few shots, you know they were gonna cut, you know, they didn't want to be embarrassed again, especially you know, in fr in front of the whole league. And um the the Sabres weren't having it, they were not having it, they weren't gonna roll over. And when they were down two goals, I was like, uh, is there a game plan gonna win? And then they just kept coming back and then went down two goals again. I was like, oh my gosh, this game is insane. And then they they came up and then they scored three unanswered, I think, um to tie, you know, to to come within one, tie it, and then and then take the lead eight-seven. It was just incredible. I guess afterwards there was videos of you know fans hugging each other and high-fiving each other, and just like, oh man, what a game. And then the net and then two days later, they all you know, everyone's talking about the game. The next the next broad the next day when there was other games going around in the in the NHL, they all talked about this game. That's how big of a big of a game and impact it had. And um the the next uh game against San Jose, uh Macklin Celebrini, um in my mind, the second best player in the NHL right now. But um they uh they took care of business. You know, we we we've got a long history of beating San Jose, especially at home. You can you I don't know what our record is, Mason, if you want to look that up. But um last year, I guess they beat us 6'2 or something like that. I'm not sure.

SPEAKER_02

It was home record, is um No, I mean against San Jose.

SPEAKER_03

Oh or head-to-head. How many times historically have we you know what's the head-to-head historical matchup between Buffalo Sabres and San Jose?

SPEAKER_02

It is. So Sabres dominated um 33-14, 33, 13, 14, 2.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, so 14 is okay. Yeah, because there were ties and now there's shut losses. So yeah, yeah, so so we've we've beaten them his historically. Um but but you everyone was like, you know, you don't want that the emotional letdown, you know, like it was such a historical game, and then you just kind of don't have it the next game because so much emotion and energy was was burned two days before, but but that wasn't the case. They're showing, you know, like it's playoff time, baby. And um, you know, we looked at the standings before the game. San Jose Sharks were just one point below the final wildcard spot. So they, you know, that was a really, really important game for them. And it gave up and put us because um yesterday or yeah, yesterday, uh Columbus beat um the Lightning in in regulation, put us four points ahead of Lightning atop of the Atlantic. Um can't even believe I'm saying that.

SPEAKER_02

And it's just uh take over here. Yeah, good. We have a so eight percent chance to win the Stanley Cup according to open markets, 43% for the Atlantic, 98% for the Stanley Cup, and a 15% chance to make it. We have a 1% chance to win the President's Trophy. Yeah, well, we're dominating right now, Kel Colorado, the 91% chance to win the uh President's Trophy.

SPEAKER_03

What about to win the Stanley Cup?

SPEAKER_02

Let them win the trophy. I don't care.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I know. Yeah, I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

Champion is Colorado at 23%. Faber the 8%, that too went up to 3%.

SPEAKER_03

23% to eight. Yeah. The other day the the bet to win it was twenty-two to one. Um so you know, a hundred dollar or one dollar bet would win you two hundred and twenty-two dollars. So um I wonder whether if that's up or down.

SPEAKER_02

So let's do one more thing until we go rapid fire.

SPEAKER_03

Um rapid fire.

SPEAKER_02

So they're thinking the sabres could clinch as early as March 22nd to April 13th. That's when the projected timeline. Well, so March 22nd to early April. That's when they think Sabres could clinch.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we still got Tampa one more time, too. Um, and that can be uh that could be for like home ice advantage. I don't know. Yeah, we'll a lot's gonna happen between now and then.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, you ready to do some rapid fire?

SPEAKER_03

So we I set up a scenario here. Let the listeners in. Um this one's very specific, and you know, it's not even really Buffalo. It's um so reports came in. So we know um uh the Miami Dolphins have let go of Tua Tugavayola, and he signed a one-year prove-it deal with the Atlanta Falcons. And Atlanta, uh they're gonna, I guess they're gonna release Kirk Cousins. They gave him $100 million for nothing. No fault to him at all. Why they gave him $100 million and then drafted Penix, I have no idea. And then they treated him like crap. But, anyways, um, that's beside the fact. So they said that Penix Jr., Michael Penix Jr. and what year is he in?

SPEAKER_02

What Michael Penix Jr. second year.

SPEAKER_03

A second year pro um will compete for the starting job with Tua Tugavayola. And that's what um that's what we're questing, that's what the rapid fire questions is gonna be about. All right, ready?

SPEAKER_02

You know what Tua's full name is?

SPEAKER_03

What?

SPEAKER_02

Tua Tua um Nijima Ula Latviola Tegava.

SPEAKER_03

Alright, you ready?

SPEAKER_02

Yep.

unknown

What's your point?

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Um waiting. Still waiting?

SPEAKER_03

Okay. Okay. If both quarterbacks play average in camp, who should start week one? Tua or Michael Penix Jr.

SPEAKER_02

Um because Penix is younger. Well, he's still he's 25 during 26, May 8th. Tua is a little bit older at 28. But um, if we've seen uh Tua, he had great weapons, but mostly um a little bit overrated. If they both play average, it's a good question. I say they probably start um Tua. Well, I think they probably start I don't know, it's really good.

SPEAKER_03

One or the other. You're you have a 50-50. You have to pick one or the other. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Tua had two questions.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, number two. Okay, number two. Who has the higher ceiling in in Atlanta's offense? You know, um Tua or Penix? Who's got the higher ceiling?

SPEAKER_02

Say Tua. He has good weapons.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. Which quarterback. No, wait, okay, I'm sorry. Who throws the better deep ball? Who throws the better deep ball? This one's easy for me.

SPEAKER_02

Really?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Um, I probably go with you just don't look at a computer screen to answer the question. Just you have to look into your gun. Yeah, yeah, I would agree with that. Okay, um, and okay, we have six here. Okay. Which quarterback makes Atlanta more dangerous in the NFC South?

SPEAKER_02

Penix.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, why is that?

SPEAKER_02

Um Tua can't, he's not much of a runner. Penix is more dangerous. Um, he has that deep threat, so I feel like it could be more dangerous.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. Okay, that works for me. Does a one-year deal mean Atlanta doesn't trust Tua long term?

SPEAKER_02

No. I think that they just they don't want to, I mean, he's more he's a veteran player. He could say, like, oh, um, Penix, you're doing this, he gotta do this, he gotta do that. I don't think it was more of a um more of a like, you know, um, we don't trust you. I think they kind of want to save their money for other positions of need.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. All right. Um, I'll buy it. And lastly, who's got more to lose this season? Penix or Tua?

SPEAKER_02

I think Penix. Second year player having competition with a um with Tua. I think you got a lot more to a lot more at stake there. Tua is a one-year deal. You know, you can flow around somewhere else.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Okay. I will ask you now.

SPEAKER_02

If Penix outplays Tua in preseason, should Alanis throw Penix immediately?

SPEAKER_03

So if if Penix outplays Tua in preseason, yeah. I mean, if they're that's what they're there doing, evaluating in preseason, um, and if that's what they see, yeah, they should go with what they see in preseason. And then uh hopefully uh what they see will translate into the regular season.

SPEAKER_02

Who would Atlanta fans rather watch right now?

SPEAKER_03

Hmm. So that's an interesting one there. So um at two years, you know, Michael Penix's shine has kind of worn off a little bit. And um I'm thinking if you're an Atlanta fan, you probably just like you just want one guy to win it, and whoever that is is the guy that they will support. You know what I mean? If so, if Tua comes in there, he wins the job, and they go four and one in the first five, they're all they're all Tua. And the same would go for Penix. So, um, who would they rather want right now? The the guy who wins the job.

SPEAKER_02

That's not really um uh yeah, that's my answer.

SPEAKER_03

Number three.

SPEAKER_02

It's um Penix at Tua, not no, that's what yours was.

SPEAKER_03

Mine's not.

unknown

No.

SPEAKER_02

Who would Atlanta fans rather watch right now? I just answered that.

SPEAKER_03

I just answered that.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, okay. Which quarterback benefits more from Atlanta's weapons. I think it's worded different uh weirdly, but which quarterback would benefit more from Atlanta's weapons.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, in the in the weaponry that they have.

SPEAKER_02

We have Drake London. I don't think they have Calvin Ridley got uh released.

SPEAKER_03

You know, um there was a point where I I was um a to a believer, but when he got, you know, the concussions that he got and um the way he responded from those concussions and the way he played after, just don't think he's the same guy that he was before, unfortunately, due to no fault of his own. And um you might even be able be able to blame Miami for keeping him in there for too long when he was playing against Buffalo and got a second one. But um, so um which quarterback benefits more from that? I'm gonna say Penix.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, um Falcon start two and three, who should take over? This is if they have a different quarterback, he's horrible, and you have the option between Tua or Penix.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, so so if Tua goes out there, starts two and three, or if Penix starts two on three, um, I can't just blatantly say go with the other dude because you're below 500. It depends on how those losses come.

SPEAKER_02

If it's like close losses, your defense isn't playing good, then keep your quarterback.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Every every game tells a story, you know, and two and three doesn't tell that story, so um, yeah, it's kind of like a wait and see type of situation there. Okay, number five.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. Who is more likely to be the Falcons quarterback in 2027? Not 26, 27.

SPEAKER_03

So I guess it could be the the qu the answers could be. Yeah, it could be two of Panox or other. Um I'm gonna I'm gonna go with Penix. I think um I think Panox um has got a little bit more upside.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he's a rookie. He's on a rookie deal.

SPEAKER_03

He's not a rookie deal, so I'm gonna go with Penix there.

SPEAKER_02

Which quarterback wins more games in 2026?

SPEAKER_03

I'm gonna go with Penix.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. Let's moving on. All right, turn off the music. We're going on to Bradley Chubb. Signed with Buffalo today.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Crazy deal as to Joey Both the left.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, Bradley Chubb. I was I was happy, you know, neat initial reaction um was that I was going to um I was gonna be happy about this. Alright, so um, so yeah, Bradley Chubb discussion.

SPEAKER_02

Uh Mason, do you want to uh start us off with uh relied heavily on um Gregor So to generate some pressure?

SPEAKER_03

But I think Bradley Chubb really adds another legitimate older um edge rusher can win one-on-one, and you know even if it doesn't show in the box on the box score, so show he can um mess up plays, make it all make it um what'd I say, uh disruptor to make it make his yeah, disruptor get after the quarterback. Yeah, like I you know, I hear that. Um, you know, but what kind of concerns me is his um his injury history, his the history he's had with injuries, um it's always a big a big risk, especially um signing a guy to a multi-year contract, and um he has missed times due to injury. So um, you know, injuries are part of football, and then sign in a guy that's already got history of of that, you know, it it makes me a little uneasy.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. Um I think um Chu Berly Chubb is multiple seasons near or above double digit sacks. He had eight and a half last year, um in year eleven. When when he's healthy, he's constantly produced multiple.

SPEAKER_03

No, wait, no, he had eight and a half last year. And he had eleven sacks in twenty twenty three.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. Which is something um he produces pressures. Something Buffalo sometimes struggled with in big pressure gas. And also a run defense, too.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Yeah, no, I mean I I I hear that. Um you know, my my concern, um another concern that I have though, is is the cap space. You know, the impact it's gonna have, like you were just mentioned, we've only got two million dollars available, and um, you know, I'm just worried that we're not gonna be able to have any flexibility for other positions like wide receiver or um some some depth um signings in the secondary and things like that.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, uh can we have a little um breaking news real quick? Yeah, breaking news.

SPEAKER_03

Breaking news. All right, hold on, hold on. Sorry, I was a little slow on that.

SPEAKER_02

Bucks are signing former Panthers Panthers down defense lineman, Oshawn Robinson, to a one-year $10 million full guarantee deal.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, one year ten.

SPEAKER_02

So yeah, those are um that's your update. Okay. Also, um, so I'm talking going back, Bradley Chubb. Yep. Um adding um Chubb force offices to you know really account for be like, oh, we don't want to run on third down because it might not be guaranteed there. Would be create better uh matchup players like Greg Rousseau, interior rushers, more one-on-one opportunities usually leads to a coverage sack.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, but you know, like this guy he's definitely past his prime.

SPEAKER_02

You know, uh I want to say past, I think he's still relevant, but not his prime. Like what he said.

SPEAKER_03

He came in the league in 2018. I think he's past his prime, especially for a guy who's an edge rusher. These guys these guys, these guys, you know, battle. These guys are um up against, you know, some of the biggest linemen in the league. Um and in this this this position, um, you know, the players can start production can start declining pretty fast, and especially towards the tail end of the career, which I do believe Bradley Chubb is in, the the tail end of his career.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Okay, um also think for the Bills playoff experience. He's a veteran, played in big AFC games, understands the divisional matchups, the um experience who really helped defense that had trouble closing out elite quarterbacks in the postseason. Mahomes, I'm not gonna say Bonex, he's not really elite yet. Trevor Lawrence, I say he's elite, Patrick Flyers and Mo's, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson.

SPEAKER_03

What do you what do you what do you why are you bringing these guys up?

SPEAKER_02

I'm telling um about elite quarterbacks we've played. All these guys we've played.

SPEAKER_03

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_02

Help really.

SPEAKER_03

Mahomes, or he can get after those guys, yeah. Yeah, 100%. Um, you know, but there could be this kind of ripple effect from signing an edge rusher, and and what do we say who is the seventh um highest paid free agent edge so far? Um and when you look at the the mock drafts, um when you look at the mock drafts, you see edge, edge, edge, edge. Everyone's um there's so much priority, not only in free agency, but also um in this upcoming draft. So does this mean that you know we pass on a a really talented edge rusher um that could be with us you know for many years and be an all-pro, of course. You can't predict that, you don't know where guys wind up being.

SPEAKER_02

But edge rushers, but yeah, like later edge rushers usually take a couple years to develop. But uh, I like what he said there, but the Bills could always make a surprising move. Get someone like TJ Parker, who I have on my mock draft, a little late on that news. He's Edge. TJ Parker edge from I'll probably um change that when I do my mock draft 3.0.

SPEAKER_03

Where does where does TJ Parker out of?

SPEAKER_02

Clemson.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, Clemson guy. Alright.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, um, we're already talking about Max Crosby, Trey Hendrickson, right?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we gotta oh we're running at 48 minutes.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, talk about um let's just talk about the um the players tournament.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, yeah, because we already already talked about the the draft um so um last week.

SPEAKER_02

We might be doing a bonus podcast about uh mock drafts, though. Keep alert for that. Be sure you have your so that's gonna be fun. Um okay. Definitely uh PGA players. Who do you think who do you think is gonna win the players tournament?

SPEAKER_03

Okay, so I love this tournament. Um the one thing about you know, so so Rory is is right now right behind Scotty with the the shortest odds to win this tournament. However, you know, he's the he's the reigning champion. He won last year.

SPEAKER_02

But he did have a back issue.

SPEAKER_03

He's got a back issue that he pulled out of um the API last year, Arnold Palmer, invitational. And they said it was precautionary. Um he he followed a tweak and then followed up by muscle spasms. So he says that he's a game time decision, which is tomorrow morning. GTG. I'm not sure if he's um we'll have to look that up if he's a morning start time or an afternoon. I don't know, I'm not sure. But um he's giving himself a game time decision. So um, so so these are the predictions. I want to do this every week. I want to put myself in, yourself on record. And um, you know, right now we'll we we could just pick uh first overall, you know, who's gonna win it, and then um Ray McElroy it's 142 p.m. Let's do this. Let's do let's do who's gonna win it. Um no, who's who's gonna come in a top ten? And then who come in um okay, and who will miss cut.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, um can I go first?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, um, so I'm on my list. The first person I'm uh I'm gonna just use my little pen here. I'm gonna um take off some guys. I don't think Matthew Patrick's gonna win. He's come close, but I don't think he can really I don't think Albert's gonna win. I think uh for me, there's a couple guys. Shuffler, I think it's really up to these three to win. I think it's Scheffler always. I actually think I'm gonna go for a little bit of a um wild card here with Jake Knapp.

SPEAKER_03

Really?

SPEAKER_02

I think you should um left him out and uh so I would do Shuffler, Jake Knapp.

SPEAKER_03

40 to 1.

SPEAKER_02

And I'll probably and I'll also do a bit of No no no no no no.

SPEAKER_03

You you pick one winner.

SPEAKER_02

Oh no.

SPEAKER_03

So who's your winner?

SPEAKER_02

I'm gonna go with Scheffler.

SPEAKER_03

Wait, wait, you just went from Jake Knapp.

SPEAKER_02

No, I said those are my guys I think would go in.

SPEAKER_03

I think he's gonna get Okay, but just know this that next week you can't pick the same guy twice. Okay. Okay, so you're picking Shuffler.

SPEAKER_02

I'm gonna pick top ten, Jake Knapp.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, alright.

SPEAKER_02

And I think um I really think the person who's gonna miss the cut would be um you know, um, let's go.

SPEAKER_03

I mean you can pick, even if you go to the last person named, this is a limited field. This is um everyone is everyone is good.

SPEAKER_02

You know, I actually really think person, I'm gonna go with um I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go Corey Connors. Wait, is then the Canadian Canadian, yep. Oh wait, no, I actually I like him.

SPEAKER_03

You don't have to dislike the person if you think he's gonna miss the cut. It's just what you think he's how you think he's trending, or you know, it it could be something you really like. Does it mean you have to dislike them?

SPEAKER_02

I'm gonna go uh it's not not like we're talking Daniel Berger here or anything.

SPEAKER_04

Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Don't get me started with Daniel Berger. I'm gonna go Christian Bythendo.

SPEAKER_03

He promises um children uh signatures and then he Shia.

SPEAKER_02

I'm going by the Christian Bythento.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, oh South Um African B Benozendote.

SPEAKER_02

Blut and Dout?

SPEAKER_03

Benousendote. Yeah. Um we saw him at the Cognizant Classic. He actually um drained one in the water on the in the bear trap on the 16th. Um but then he but then he stood, and then he walked right up to the drop zone and um put one on the green. But anyways, okay, so we're we're running up against the clock here. So you pick Scotty, so I can't. Um you get we got Rory Um short going from long shortest odds longer, um, Rory, Calin, Morokawa, Siwoo Kim, O'Bear, Love Diggle Bear, um, Lou Dig Ober. Um, but you know, okay, we got Russell Henley, Xander, Tommy Fleetwood. That is where I am landing to win the 2026 Players Championship. You heard it. The winner of the FedEx Cup, Tommy Fleetwood. Woo! That's right.

SPEAKER_02

Um so um, you said we can't use these next week or never.

SPEAKER_03

You can't pick the same person to win it two weeks in a row. That is correct.

SPEAKER_02

Two weeks in a row, okay. So um I think we're ready to wrap this up.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, yeah, that's um that's a wrap. All right. No, wait, wait, wait. Tommy Fleawood and then top ten. Oh.

SPEAKER_02

Um can you jack nap.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, top ten. Excuse me, top ten. I'm gonna go Robert McIntyre.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, that's a good one.

SPEAKER_03

All right, and um is Daniel Berger. I think he must have took the week off. He's not in here. No, he's there. Where? He's at the bottom. Oh yeah, he's right here. He's gonna miss the cut.

SPEAKER_02

5,000.

SPEAKER_03

He's gonna miss the cut.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. Put these in, and then next week we'll keep.

SPEAKER_03

Maybe one of these days we'll talk about that. It's gonna be uh I like Daniel Burger story at Oakmatt.

SPEAKER_02

I like this um fun uh little game. Yes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it makes us accountable.

SPEAKER_02

Time will tell. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Um the good podcast.

SPEAKER_02

Um, keep it all next time. Hopefully, we'll warpath.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, you know where this when do the Sabres play next.

SPEAKER_02

We play tomorrow. Probably tomorrow, right? Washington.

SPEAKER_03

All right. This was another good podcast, Mason.

SPEAKER_02

Signing out, upstairs.

SPEAKER_03

See you guys. Guys we go.
