Welcome to the Argue Your Point podcast. Here are your hosts, Jeff Mitri, and Mason Meet.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, yeah. All right. What's up, Mason? What's up?
SPEAKER_02Good.
SPEAKER_01Good. That's it. Come on, we gotta bring the energy today. We got an awesome episode ahead of episode 15 of Argue to Point. Um, I'll just go down the rundown March Madness. What?
SPEAKER_02No. Sweet 16. Forgot to change that.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, right. Yeah, March Madness Suite 16. Um, Bill's mock draft. Uh essentially um well, is that is the Bill's mock draft are we are we looking at players we would take at number 26? Yes. Or beyond? 26. Only 26 if if that is where we end up.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, my pick too.
SPEAKER_01Okay, if that's where we end up drafting from. And then we got a little game we're gonna play definitely or definitely not. I think that game is pretty self-explanatory. And we're gonna talk about the NHL Atlantic Division race, which the Sabres lead at the moment, and our PGA predictions. And speaking of the PGA predictions, um, do you have do you remember what I said on episode 14 on the PGA predictions? Yeah, that's right, I did. And he did win the Valero Texas Open. And it was awesome. It was an awesome ending because what he did the week before is he on the 18th was tied with Cameron Young on the 18th hole, all tied up, basically like a playoff hole. And he, you know, he's a left-hander. He knocked it into the he he crossed the fairway and went into the pine straws. Cameron Young striped a 375-yard drive right into the middle of the fairway, and then had a you know, short iron shot shot to the green, and he birdied the last hole and won it. Fitzpatrick bogeyed the last hole, came in second, and then it was well documented. He went up to the parents of Kim and Young and said, Congratulations, very class, very um class act um person. We know that. We, you know, he's actually walked up to you. Mason, you want to tell that story? What happened there at the um Oakmont at the PGA championship? We were sitting there. Oh, I'm sorry, Oak Hill. You're right, in Rochester, New York. And we were we were watching the players walk up to the T and what and what happened?
SPEAKER_02Gave up to me and gave me a ball.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02The Matt Fitzpatrick ball, and every time I see it, it's he he's so um because they have like 25 because they have like a ton of um books on every hit he's made.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he records every shot he makes in practice and obviously in tournaments, but every shot he makes in practice, he writes a note for it. Pretty great. And yeah, and he makes his ball, he marks his ball the same exact way every time with the M slash and the F, and then four colors on the front, four colors on the back.
SPEAKER_02We'll bring it down here.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, yeah. We will. We're we're in the middle of a little renovation, but yeah, but I predicted the winner of the PGA um tour last week and this week. We'll be talking about that at the end of at the end of the hour. And um and it'll be interesting. I know Scheffler did dip out, he was at three and a half odds to win it. He's out, so it just seems pretty wide open. The next closest is the returning champion. I think he's 15 to 1. So um, so we'll get into that a little bit later.
SPEAKER_02Okay, pretty start off on March minus 316. We're gonna go by the regions and just I'm gonna uh say the team just and make your projections. Who do you think would win?
SPEAKER_01Okay, but hold on. But before you before you get into that, I just want to preface one thing. It we've got a um, you know, Jake was on last week, and we've got a tournament running that we've been running, a small tournament that we'd run for years. Right this year we've got 18 people in it, 10 bucks a person. Uh Mason are in it. And um what I want to point out is that I'm in first place.
SPEAKER_02Tied. First place.
SPEAKER_01First place in no, no, actually, I'm not tied. No, look again. Check it again. I don't have my phone, but I've got one more point than second place. I got so yeah, no, it's um I'm straight up the leader, looking for a wire-to-wire win, but you know, if I got Duke win it all, and if Duke loses the next game, I'm out, and that's just how the tournament is. Great tournament so far.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I forgot. Icebreaker.
SPEAKER_01Well, I did it with yeah, I kind of okay.
SPEAKER_02But uh I'm gonna go. And you're gonna project. You're gonna project on me in your first place.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_02So what do you I'm gonna say the game and who's playing here to say who's gonna win? Number nine, Iowa versus number four Nebraska.
SPEAKER_01Um Well I mean I I'm kind of inclined to just go, okay. So I I guess I could just forget my um bracket. Yeah, bracket on this. So that that that buzzer beaker beater, buzzer beater, that was was that Iowa State or Iowa? That uh no, I think that was Iowa, right? Over Kansas.
unknownSt.
SPEAKER_01John's was really cool. Was the yeah, St. John's.
SPEAKER_02Let's read let's just uh go over the matchups.
SPEAKER_01Okay. So Iowa versus Nebraska. I'm gonna go with Nebraska.
SPEAKER_02You want Nebraska? Yeah. I tree also think uh Nebraska isn't good this. They have a bare defense side advantage. Iowa shooting versus Nebraska defense could be a good one. If I'll stay half from three, you know, they could also have an upset here. But Iowa's really the Cinderella team right now. It's playing loose confidence, so I think I really have Nebraska on this one.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Do you want should we should we do one by one or should we list what we're gonna do first?
SPEAKER_02Kind of like let's do um let's just say next one, Houston, Illinois. You pick, I pick, go in next one. Then we'll go to the west and we'll go east.
SPEAKER_01But I'm saying right now, should we run it do the rundown?
SPEAKER_02Oh no. We'll just go.
SPEAKER_01Alright, so the next one is number two Houston versus number three Illinois. Now I've said that all along that they were better than Florida. Um, and turns out I was right because Florida's not even in the tournament anymore, and they didn't even face Houston. So um yeah, yeah, Houston is a big um I think they went to the finals last year against Florida. They're a big um they're big presence. They got uh a lot of physicality in their game, um, a lot of offensive firepower, a lot of grit, and um, you know, it's it just I think this game's gonna come down to turnovers, and I do believe that Houston will win that battle. So I'm gonna pick Houston on that.
SPEAKER_02They're the final 2023, I think. They won it. It's 23-24. But I also agree with you in Houston. They are just a really well rounded team. They have the experience, they have everything. You know, they have a great coach, but it's gonna be a it's gonna be a good game to watch. Two versus three seed. Winner goes to the Elite Eight.
SPEAKER_01Nice. Yeah, we got games coming up on Thursday and Friday this week. Um so that'll be fun. I'm not sure which I'm not sure which days those teams play, but it's on Thursday and Friday. Next is Arizona versus Arkansas.
SPEAKER_02I think Arizona will steamroll Arkansas. Arizona one was compete teams. If you look at their rec their uh schedule, they beat a ton of good teams before they have that. No, so if if the game is a controlled game, Arizona will dominate. But if it gets fast, Arizona, Arkansas can benefit on that one. You wanna do number two?
SPEAKER_01Purdue versus Texas. Uh Texas has um they've got that underdog mentality. They um that's uh that's who beat Florida, I think. And um but Purdue has size and half-court efficiency advantage. Um Texas, I don't know if Texas can handle Purdue's interior. They're I think they're a little bit too big and too physical, and I don't think that Texas will be able to um show much penetration in there. So um that's why I'm favoring Purdue over Texas mainly. That's my that's that's my key to the game. Um so um, but you know, Texas is is knocked off Florida, and um I wouldn't be surprised. I'm picking Purdue, but I wouldn't be surprised if Texas beats Purdue. Yeah, pulls up the upset. Yep.
SPEAKER_02Okay, I will go in East right now, going on Duke and St. John. Number one, Duke. I really think St. John has a good chance. But with Duke have a Cameron boozer, I don't think there's any realistic chance that St. John can win this game. I mean Duke has the depth, they have talent, they have they have really good star power, just said also create shots, create coaching. But if St. John controls the temperature, St.
SPEAKER_01John's got coaching too.
SPEAKER_02Get some good runs in there, then could be a good game.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that was crazy how that guy who scored the buzzer beater for St. John's.
SPEAKER_02No points.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he didn't score a bucket all day. And and he told his coach, give it, you know, give it to me. I want it. And he's like, Alright, but he's like, wait a minute, you haven't even scored yet today. You know, like but he wanted it, so we gave him that confidence. Rick Pettino, he he's a great coach. Um, but I'd be shocked if St. John's upset Duke. No, I don't I don't know. Um, is is Duke a way better team than St. John's? Yes. Do I ask questions and answer to myself? Yes. No, so yeah, yeah, moving on to Yukon versus Michigan State.
SPEAKER_02Um can be going here.
SPEAKER_01This is me. I'm going UConn. Um, they're a pretty balanced team, offense and defense. Uh Michigan State brings, you know, excellent coaching, of course, and um experience. Obviously, so is UConn. Um they're they're pretty tight matchup. And I think this one is gonna come down to the wire here. I'm I'm picking UConn because that's what my bracket says, and um, you know, it can go either way, but I do think that um that this one's gonna get this one's gonna be tight right at the very end. I actually disagree with you that one.
SPEAKER_02I think we should say the slight upset on Connecticut. I think um Michigan State, they have experience. They are an experienced team. They're well-rounded team. It's be really even matchup. I don't think it's two seed or three seed. I think it's a three-seed versus three seed. I think it's an even matchup, and the late game's gonna be really huge for this.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yep, yep.
SPEAKER_02Do you mind doing uh Midwest region?
SPEAKER_01We've got Michigan versus Alabama. Michigan is the one seed, Alabama's the fourth seed, head coached by Nate Oates, who used to coach UB. Um Michigan's the better team here. I I do not think Alabama will win. I of course, you know, it's not gonna be a blow-up, not predicting a blowout, but um I I think you know, you know, if if Alabama can play like an up and down fast-paced game, then you know they'll have a chance. But I think Michigan is the experienced team. Um the the better team. Maybe not, you know, I'm not sure about experience, but I think they're the better team that will dictate the pace.
SPEAKER_02Okay, I actually want to go with the upset here. Alabama fee number. We saw Florida go down to um uh Iowa. And I don't think it'd be crazy if Alabama hits the upset in Michigan here. Alabama, they have fast, if high scoring with this team that can mess up everyone's bracket. If they speed it up, they could probably possibly win this game. I'm gonna do uh Tennessee versus Iowa State. Um Iowa State's a two seed. That one's a little bit.
SPEAKER_01Iowa State's a what?
SPEAKER_02Two-seed.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, right. Okay, yeah, they are a two-seed. So Iowa. Tennessee beat a one-seed to get a few.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I actually think this is gonna be a Tennessee game here. Even though I have Iowa State going my final four, I still say Tennessee. Bear team. This is a this is probably gonna be a low-scoring game, more physical. Tennessee's a defensive upstyle, upset style team here. Yeah, I really think they could have a chance.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. All right.
SPEAKER_02Now we're gonna move on to the building lockdown 5.0.
SPEAKER_01Alright.
SPEAKER_02Start off with KC Conception. Concepcion.
SPEAKER_01Conception. That's how I heard it was pronounced today. So that's why I um wrote down the That's why I put that um pronunciation. Is that what you call it? I mean, that's how you say it, isn't it? How do you enunciation?
SPEAKER_02So he's 5'11, 190 pounds, 2025, he had 80 receptions, 800 yards, 800 plus yards, and multiple touchdowns. He had two punt return touchdowns in 2025. Multi-tool.
SPEAKER_01Two punt returns? Oh, okay. I didn't put his punt return stance. I didn't know he did that.
SPEAKER_02We need return production. Okay, Ray Davis is good. He has one touchdown. Imagine if we had the best return duo in the NFL. He also grew up a Bills fan. But problem is he were he had a uh knee injury, underwent knee injury injury, underwent knee procedure before the draft. We'll probably bring him down, but if the Bills could possibly trade up to like maybe early, late second round, get back in the second round, snag him. Or if they want to take him at 26.
SPEAKER_01Oh, you think you could draw you you can get him later and early in the second round?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'm thinking like according to PFF, he's the 35th best player in the entire draft. Okay. I think he's more like kind of on the edge. If you trade for like the wherever the Raiders have the first pick in the second round, probably take a bit, but if you can take one of those later picks, you try to get a great player.
SPEAKER_01Awesome. That's a great breakdown in a in a um really interesting perspective. Uh, did you go through his stats? So last year, uh did you go through these already?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, nine and nineteen yards, nine touchdowns.
SPEAKER_01Averages 15.1.
SPEAKER_02Yep, 16 receptions. But um how many receptions?
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, 61. 53 the year before. All right. Um, so that's it that's wide receiver. Um yeah, I you know, I just don't think they're gonna go wide receiver here. I could be wrong. I think DJ Moore and the rest of the offense um will be suffice. Um, but we can get into that a little bit later. Right now we're just breaking down the possible picks. So that is wide receiver Casey Concepcion, Texas AM.
SPEAKER_02And um now we're going to Cassius Howell, Texas AM. That's good I picked in my box draft and Mason's box draft Edge 3.0 6'3, 245 pounds, 1.58, 10 10 yard split, fastest defensive lineman. You know for elite for a separateness, but because they're in a 30 and a quarter inch arm length.
SPEAKER_01So they don't so instead of a 40 They do 10. Well, what does 10 yard split mean?
SPEAKER_02It's just 10 yards.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, okay. So he did 10 yards, 1.58, and that's the fastest of all defensive linemen. Yep. That's pretty cool. Um, those guys gotta be fast too.
SPEAKER_02Um but um he really brings some physical edge pressure. Um with him and Bradley Chubb. Bradley Chubb could be kind of mentor. He fits a bill with his defensive idea to help stabilize the edge, and he's gonna help us out.
SPEAKER_01Um Cassius, you're still talking about?
SPEAKER_02Yep. He had five sacks this year. Um he had nine.
SPEAKER_01No, he had two. Oh, I'm sorry. You're right, you're right.
SPEAKER_0218 solo tackles.
SPEAKER_01No, right here. Cassius has got eleven and a half last year.
SPEAKER_02No, he doesn't put it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's this one right here. You're looking at sax or yeah, eleven and a half sacks.
SPEAKER_02No, that's um that's solo tackle saxer rather than.
SPEAKER_01You're on the wrong page. You're on the wrong page.
SPEAKER_02Okay. 11 and a half sacks.
SPEAKER_01That's all right.
SPEAKER_02One fourth fumble, 20 solo tackles, 31 tackles, yeah.
SPEAKER_0111 and a half sacks. That's that's a lot. Yeah. 31 um total tackles, 20 solo, 11 assists. Yeah, that's um that's productive. Um, and apparently he fits into John Leonard's system. I don't exactly know what John Leonard's system is because we haven't seen him in Buffalo yet. Um, but I know Denver had a really good defense. We talked about that in the playoffs. Um, but you know, as far as like scheme and stuff, you know, I just I just don't know yet because I haven't done too much research on him and we haven't seen it in Buffalo.
SPEAKER_02We're gonna go to Ivy Ontario, quarterback Calemphanies, 5'11, 180 pounds, 22. Wait, hold on.
SPEAKER_01The one other thing though, on before we move on, um, to Cassius Howell. Yeah, he's got short arms.
SPEAKER_02I know, we already thought about that.
SPEAKER_01So, you know, do you want an edge of all positions to have short arms? You don't you don't want a cornerback, you don't want an edge to have short arms. You gotta reach out and grab that um give that guy. And then and also we didn't meant or maybe we did, but just kind of brush by it. Casey's conception, he's got a 10% drop rate. That means one out of every 10 catches, passes, he drops.
SPEAKER_02I could be like Ken Coleman. Just Ken Coleman's like 50.
SPEAKER_01Okay, yeah, moving on. All right.
SPEAKER_02Avi Ontario Clemson's 5'11. He's 180 pounds, nine pass breakups this year, but no interception. We need more depth at quarterback. I don't think he'll be a true number one. I think he's flying that number two position, losing True Davis White. Still a free agent, but probably gonna eventually get picked up by someone, hopefully Buffalo.
SPEAKER_01He's got some other big stats too that are worth mentioning. Three sacks, three, 48 tackles, 30 solo.
SPEAKER_02Five forced fumbles.
SPEAKER_01Five force fumbles, uh, one fumble recovery. That's um 5'11, 180. Um cornerback.
SPEAKER_0230 solo, 48 tackles for corner. Yeah, I know.
SPEAKER_01I mean, we've got um Maxwell Harrison that we just drafted in the first round last year.
SPEAKER_02He is injured a little bit. Right now, too?
SPEAKER_01No, he was started the season last year, yeah. And then we signed another corner.
SPEAKER_02Um D. Alford. D. Alford. Yeah, I think 28-year-old cornerback.
SPEAKER_01We still have Taylor Rapp. He's not a corner, he's safety.
SPEAKER_02But you can try to play nickel or um play cornerback, but um, let's move on. Okay. TJ Parker, I really like edge TJ Parker. I really think he's a stud. He's 6'3, 265. This year he had 10 plus sacks, strong pressure rate, a physical edge.
SPEAKER_01He fits or stats are different. I have five sacks from this year. Do you want to fact check that? Don't you have oh yeah, it's right here. Isn't it why isn't this open?
SPEAKER_02You wanna go through his stats?
SPEAKER_01Uh yeah. Well it says here five sacks, maybe really in 24, Mason. Twenty-four hit eleven. Um 11 sacks. So in 25 he had um 37 total tackles, 18 solo.
SPEAKER_02Let's see, you heard five sacks, eighteen solo.
SPEAKER_01Okay, all right, so we're on the same track. So he didn't have 10, 25. Um, but um he's edge. Um, I don't know what if if I draft an edge in the first round, I want to be a wrecker, but obviously it's one of the most coveted positions in football, so there's no way we're getting the first edge or the second or the third. Um, we're we're you know, way down in the pecking order. So, you know, it's not gonna be elite talent. Um, or or or maybe it will be. We all know Max Crosby was taken in the fifth round, but um yeah. But uh but yeah, we'll see, we'll see, we'll see.
SPEAKER_02Okay, um move on to Dylan Thienman, Oregon safety, six foot, two ten, two five in ninety one PFF grade, ninety one. Point one coverage. Missed tackle weight, eight missed tackle rate, eight point three percent. That's pretty good.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, is that good or not? I'm not really sure.
SPEAKER_02Most valuable safety ward. High impact defender. So take a look at sats here. Two picks. Two interceptions.
SPEAKER_01One sack. He's a safety. Um two picks. 48 assists. I mean, so he's a safety. You're gonna probably get more tackles than an edge. I really most definitely. But yeah, I mean they're they're in the they're in the middle of the action more. You know what I mean? Um the edge um I don't know. You know, it's just uh it's just how it is. No, I know. I'm just saying because we're looking at the edge and they didn't have as many tackles, and I think that's natural.
SPEAKER_02Here do I think. If the Bills want to get this guy, they have to trade up. They have to trade up for him. I have him going 10th, but he probably could go deep.
SPEAKER_0110th overall?
SPEAKER_02Yep. I think if they want to get this guy. Dylan Deanman? Yeah, they probably have to trade up a bit for him. Okay. I don't think unless he has a really big slide, then I don't see him going much higher than 10 or 15.
SPEAKER_01When you say trade up, trade up from twenty-six to ten or something. That's trading down. That's not true. That's true. That's going down the draft.
SPEAKER_02Okay, let's go on to it's trading up.
SPEAKER_01Let's argue about it. Oh. This is argue a point. This is Argue Point Podcast. Is it up or down? Put that on the the Jeffin Jeffinately, okay. All right, next is Denzel Boston, Washington, um, wide receiver, big guy, 6'4, 210. That's what you want to see in a uh wide receiver. He's got he's a red zone threat. Um last year, 62 receptions.
SPEAKER_02Um trading up in draft means moving up to earlier high value pick.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, you're wrong.
SPEAKER_01So trading up. All right. So you're wrong. So trading up does mean you go higher up down. Okay, so last year, 62 catches. Um my print's a little fuzzy. I think it says 681 yards, um, 11 touchdowns. I can read that for sure.
SPEAKER_02Um 881 yards, 11 touchdowns.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, I mean, we got DJ Moore.
SPEAKER_0214.2 average.
SPEAKER_01We've got um Keon, who would ever, you know, I I'm still in the camp of Keon will not start this year. Um, so we'll we'll see what we get in compensation for that pick. Maybe that maybe you'll be um traded at the draft. I don't think he will for like a third-round pick or something, or a second. Somehow, no, he wouldn't be worth a second. Well, I don't know.
SPEAKER_02That's the thing. They could say most argue that he's a younger player. Like teams draft uh quarterback, they have to develop. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01They he could be one of those already developed, sort of.
SPEAKER_02He's not really developed.
SPEAKER_01He's an underdeveloped, developed.
SPEAKER_02The problem isn't old. The problem is the Bills. They aren't utilizing. When he was in Washington, I disagree with that. In Washington, he was a let's argue it. He was a like he was a really deep wide receiver, like Tyree Kill. He's not fast, but he was super um electric. But now he's just catching short passes. They need to switch it up with Joe Brady.
SPEAKER_01Mason, it's because he can't run route and get open.
SPEAKER_02He could.
SPEAKER_01No, he can't in the NFL. Yeah, maybe in college he was able to create separation. It's not to me, it's not about top speed.
SPEAKER_02Can you give him at least two more years? At least one more year. I think they should um keep until his contract ends. I think you should keep until his contract ends and just let him walk.
SPEAKER_01Well, what if he does what if he does amazing?
SPEAKER_02What if he has Yeah, then they're gonna resign him to like a well then why would you let him walk? No, I'm saying if he goes great in two years, if if next year he plays great, they're gonna resign him. But if he plays bad, then they're not gonna walk.
SPEAKER_01So you're basically saying this is a make or break year for Cannon Coleman.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_02We're gonna last track.
SPEAKER_01Um I don't disagree. That's okay. We I don't disagree with that.
SPEAKER_02Let's go on Denzel Boston here.
SPEAKER_01Denzel Boston. Um, interesting name.
SPEAKER_02Kind of like I actually really like this guy. He's higher value than Casey. Um, if we would draft him, I don't even think we need to trade up. I think we just stay here, probably fall to us.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Well, that's interesting. Um, I don't really think we should take a wide receiver in the draft. I don't know if I'm alone in thinking that um at this table. But uh the reason why the Bills were held back here was not because of the offense, it was because of the defense.
SPEAKER_02Look at the top defense in the league.
SPEAKER_01Look at the the losses that we lost in in the net points that were scored against us. It's very lopsided. The um can you pull can you I thought you said you were gonna have your laptop open.
SPEAKER_02Well, we didn't need it at all, so well that's what it's for.
SPEAKER_01So when I ask a question, you can pull it up real quick. What was the final score of the Denver Bills game?
SPEAKER_0233-30.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, giving up 33 points is not gonna win you championships. That game was not lost because of the offense or the or the um you know the catch, the no catch. It was the defense. You can't defense wins championships, and we need to go heavy on defense in this draft. That's my opinion. Forget about the offense and um and giving Josh Allen weapons. He's got DJ Moore, he's got great tight ends, um, he's got James Cook who who can get more involved in the passing game, possibly. It's still Joe Brady's, you know, um offense.
SPEAKER_02Especially looking at these stats right now for the game. Um 31 tackles to 48 tackles. Uh it's really just all the problem it doesn't look like the Denver hit 48 tackles? No. Yeah, they did. 48 tackles.
SPEAKER_01But um Well, that's that's a pretty big thing.
SPEAKER_02Let's move on to definitely or definitely not.
SPEAKER_01Jeffinitely oh man, we need a good intro to that.
SPEAKER_02Do I um say the question or do you? Let's um let's what's your point? I'm gonna start. Should the bills trade up to a potentially draft a wide receiver?
SPEAKER_01Should the bills say that again, please?
SPEAKER_02Should the bills trade up to potentially draft a wide receiver?
SPEAKER_01Um definitely not. The Bills should not turn it out a little bit. Um, the Bills should not. Uh you know, I I kind of just answered this question a second ago. Definitely not, because I don't think the Bills need anything beyond the Bills, don't need a stud wide receiver, they don't need a bona fide. Okay, Josh Allen, he does make everyone better, and what's holding us back is the defense. Okay, and that's why it's definitely not.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Should the hockey hall of fame keep Jack Hughes golden goal?
SPEAKER_01Oh my gosh. Are you kidding me? Should Jack Hughes he was excuse- can you please not? Jack Hughes, he said that he w he said that he wants that puck back?
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_01That is okay. That is um hold on. That is absurd. That is absurd. I just wanted to use that. I gotta get better at using these transition buttons. But anyways, um, definitely or definitely not. No, definitely not. He should not have the golden gold back. It doesn't belong to him, it's a part of history. No, it doesn't. They've already got the IOC has an arrangement with um the hockey hall of fame. That's where it goes before the game even starts. Yeah, but and it just covers the person who scores what's that?
SPEAKER_02I mean, you know, quarterbacks keep the um football whenever they win their first game. The same thing as hockey. The same thing. This is not they keep it.
SPEAKER_01This isn't the first goal. This is a tournament and it's the golden goal. So it's not the same thing. I I understand like the comparison, like, yeah, sometimes, you know, like when Ovechkin scored a thousandth goal, um yeah, he they gave it to him. Um maybe he'll donate, maybe that maybe he'll donate to Hockey Hall of Fame. Um, but yeah, or um, you know, home runs and stuff. But um but the golden goal, no, that that does not belong to you. That belongs to the the Hall of Fame. It belongs to America. It doesn't belong to him, it's not his personal item to put in his bedroom. It belongs in a museum, as Indiana Jones would say.
SPEAKER_02But um be cool do next time. I know what I'm gonna do next time. I'm gonna add the essential question every podcast. It'd be like, they won't chamberlain score a hundred. It would be a cooler question, but we'll try something go in the first round.
SPEAKER_01Say that again, Mason.
SPEAKER_02We'll try Simpson, go in the first round.
SPEAKER_01Will Ty Simpson from Alabama go in the first round? Definitely! He definitely, definitely will go in the first round. Um, you know, and I even heard Dan Rolofsky today saying that he will go ahead of Mendoza. He doesn't really talk about well um you know he looked really impressive at the combat. Oh yeah, Ty Simpson.
SPEAKER_02Fernando Mendoza, he already been proven. He's already been the number one overall pick for two years.
SPEAKER_01No, it's not pro nothing is proven until it's done. I mean, we all know that from the one year um NHL, the the guy was the presumptive number one up until the up until he wasn't number one, he went third. Um can't really think of his name because he he didn't really amount to you know superstar status.
SPEAKER_02It's a worse pay JSN ten million dollars more prettier than Sam Darnold.
SPEAKER_01Okay, but after you ask the question, do you have to say definitely or definitely not? Okay. Okay, can you ask the question again, please?
SPEAKER_02No, I'll just answer it. I'll do it for the last one.
SPEAKER_01Come on, what's the question, please?
SPEAKER_02I don't know what the question is.
SPEAKER_01Don't argue with me. You wanna argue? You wanna argue this point?
SPEAKER_02I'll argue this point.
SPEAKER_01Okay, definitely, definitely not.
SPEAKER_02Talking to me?
SPEAKER_01Is it worth it to pay JSN $10 million more a year than Sam Donald? Um You're gonna answer definitely, definitely not? Okay. Alright, definitely, definitely not Mason.
SPEAKER_02Masonly or Masonly not.
SPEAKER_01No, no, you we gotta stick to them.
SPEAKER_02Definitely. It's definitely definitely okay. Sam Darnold is a role piece. You could he's not he's a good quarterback, but when you get an offense like that, really an average quarterback can succeed in that offense. Average. He's a little bit above average, he's a little athletic. Anyone like that? They can pick someone in the draft. Like, if they take Ty Simpson, let's say Seahawks take Ty Simpson. Okay, he could probably be as good. Let's say he's not bust, let's say he's average. He could probably take him to the Super Bowl if they retained kind of Kenneth's Walker. But I think it's But they didn't they what do they do with Kenneth?
SPEAKER_01He went to Kansas City.
SPEAKER_02Yep. Okay, um does does Josh Allen he help in the draft to win it all at 2026? Definitely or definitely not.
SPEAKER_01Well, okay, so definitely not. I'll I'll say it was the with a caveat, you know, with a caveat.
SPEAKER_02For the offense. It's just the offense.
SPEAKER_01For the offense, definitely not. For the defense, definitely.
SPEAKER_02That's the question. It's over.
SPEAKER_01Well still helps Josh Halen, does it not?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01The defense tiny bit directly no, not a tiny bit. That's what I mean.
SPEAKER_02If he doesn't play on the defense, does he?
SPEAKER_01No, but if he was playing in the Broncos game, winning 30 to 6 off him.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I mean, that's just uh a broad stroke. But um having a stout defense takes a ton of pressure off the quarterback.
SPEAKER_02And now we're gonna be talking about the Atlantic Division Rundowling. Sabers keys to the one seed. Do you want to take this one?
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_02Just um right now, as of this was yesterday. This is yesterday. Uh 95.
SPEAKER_01Oh, we're talking sabers now?
SPEAKER_02Yep. Take a do you want to take uh Andrew all these boats I made for you? For all two for our uh two viewers. Sabres on a war path!
SPEAKER_01Okay, yeah, if we win. So wait, what was your question? Yeah, okay, yeah. We if we if we win out we got 11 games. Um I believe I don't have my phone on me. I think uh if we if we win our next five, I think we could clinch as early as like March Um 31st or something like that.
SPEAKER_02I think we could clinch as late as April 19th.
SPEAKER_01Well, that's the last game of the season. Um no, I think we're gonna clinch sooner than that. Um what a wild, wild, awesome season.
SPEAKER_03Sabres on a war path.
SPEAKER_01And um just uh just just an amazing season. You know, I've always said, you know, for the for the Sabres to to be good, they just need to, you know, it needs to be done organically, and that's exactly what happened. It's the same group of guys, essentially, that been together for years. I mean the core is the same. There's been guys, you know, obviously they go in and out, come in and out, but um, like a big trade was never ever going to be the splash that the Sabres need to make the playoffs. That was that is never gonna happen that way. It had to happen organically where where where you just start winning with the group of guys that you have, very talented group of guys that you have, and and then people want to be there. And then and then you could strike a trade when you're already winning, you know, not not like we need help, like in a way that Jack Eichel was, even that was a draft. Um but it was just like, hey, save us. We have um we need to get out of this drought, and we're looking to you to lead the way, and and he's just not that he's just he just isn't that type of person. He's a great, great winger, um, centerman. Uh you know, second line or even first line, he's a super talented, but but not so great in the in that leadership captain role, and definitely not good in front of the camera and on the microphone. Um yeah, the Saberson need to take advantage of having these games in hand on some of the teams, um and just gotta keep on rolling. I mean, they just they do. I listened to Lindy Ruff this morning in WGR, and um he says, yeah, you know, they they find different ways to win. And on the game against Anaheim, they so on the road trip, they just uh they just hit a four-game road trip, they got seven at eight points, and versus Anaheim, they were down um two goals going into the third. Linderoff says to the goaltender, you know, we're gonna be giving up some odd man rushes. You're gonna need to make some big saves here in the third because they're gonna go for it. You know, this isn't playoff hockey, this is end of a road trip hockey, and let's see what we can do. And they did, they opened it up, they gave up some odd man rushes, and Alex Lyon made some amazing breakaway. He made like, I think, three in the third. Um, and you know, we tied it up, we got the lead, we took a late penalty, and you know, we lost in overtime. But, you know, seven out of eight, that was that is amazing, and the season just keeps on becoming more and more exciting, historical in so many ways. We have more points after 70 points than we did in the 5-06 season. And um, I just I think the whole cities just can't wait to the playoffs, but I'm I'm in you know, I'm in no rush to get the playoffs uh because I'm enjoying this ride. I, you know, gotta see the season till its end and 82 games. We're at 71 right now. And uh I I just love the energy of this team. I love their grit. I love how they can um how they back down to no one. And the the Tampa Bay Lightning has going at us for years, just like Boston, where they can outmuscle you and um question your will to to fight back. And many in most times in the past 14 years, sabers just you know rolled over in those situations, especially with the lightning um and boston in particular. They they would just, you know, that would be the the game plan going in. Just you know, hit them hard, be really physical, and they're they'll back down. And they're not getting that from the sabers. They the lightning, obviously in that 8-7 historical game, they they didn't get that from the sabres. And we're playing Boston tomorrow. It'll be interesting to see because there was uh some chatter about Boston playing, you know, a rough physical game, maybe fights off the bat. I don't know. Uh, we'll see. And there's some reports they might try to push us around. I I don't know. I mean, I think they can obviously see that we're not a team that that is pushed around easily. So um or or that we're not gonna just take it like we've done in the years past. Um we're gonna stand up for each other and um we're gonna continue to battle um the entire 60 minutes, and that is just something I've uh just hoped for for so long, and it's awesome to see that finally happening because you know you just can't um you just can't hope for it and then it happens, you know. It's gotta happen organically, and uh and we're and we're seeing it.
SPEAKER_02Okay, um now we're gonna go into our PGA predictions here.
SPEAKER_01PGA?
SPEAKER_02Yep.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so that's it on the sabers?
SPEAKER_02Yep. Sabres on a war path.
SPEAKER_01Do you have so I kind of went on a little rant though? Do you have anything to add to the sabers? Come on, it's something.
SPEAKER_02Took us most of our time.
SPEAKER_01This no, we've got plenty of time.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I think I'm ready.
SPEAKER_01You don't want to talk about the sabers?
SPEAKER_02Sabres on a warpath. Yeah, what um say that again. Literally. Click the button again.
SPEAKER_01What um Sabres on a Warpath. What's your favorite sabres memory this year?
SPEAKER_02Probably the Tampa game.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it was awesome. Yeah, that was that was like oh man, the the cover of the hockey news right now is Sabres Are Back. Yeah. Yeah, it looks awesome. I'm gonna go out and buy it. Um yeah, that game, that game was unbelievable. And um it's just the start. It's just the start. Look at the stamp, we're still four points ahead of them. I know they didn't play yesterday. Uh yeah, and that gold buffalo's back, baby. Yeah, that's awesome. That's the hockey news, right? Yep. Or is it the hockey news? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02$14. So uh you went first last time, and I will be going first this time. So I do all my so my winner.
SPEAKER_01Hold on. Tell talk about what you're predicting first.
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna predict the winner.
SPEAKER_01To what?
SPEAKER_02To the Houston Children's Open.
SPEAKER_01There you go. Houston Children's Open.
SPEAKER_02So I will pick one and only Minwuli.
SPEAKER_01You're taking off the right at the top, you're just going for the top, huh? Let me tell you something about your strategy, Mason, because you did that last time with Shuffler. Um The Got the Top. They got the top doesn't always win.
SPEAKER_02The difference is Scheffler is probably the goat of the century.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but he didn't win. Yeah when you predicted him. Um I, on the other hand.
SPEAKER_02Whoa, whoa, whoa. I get to make all my pictures.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_02Okay, uh, top twenty-five. Uh I've been looking at this list for about two minutes now. Yeah, I think it's pretty clear.
SPEAKER_01Why is this list so short? Is this a signature event? Or is this just the This is just the top. The top. Yeah, okay, that's fine. That's fine.
SPEAKER_02So I'm going to make through the top twenty-five here, Brooks Kepka.
SPEAKER_01Okay, Brooks Kepka, top twenty-five. Now, who are you picking to miss the cut? Because last week, I'll add you picked Sanjay M, who was the uh 54-hole leader. Um, and then he just, you know, you know, like a lot of golfers do on the back nine, leading a tournament, he did not he made a few mistakes. Um So he was far from being miscut. So who are you picking this week? Mason?
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna be picking. I'm gonna be picking someone I've actually haven't heard of. Harry Hall. Harry Hall.
SPEAKER_01You ever know? I know who Harry Hall is. He wears the those cool hats.
SPEAKER_02The DeWalt?
SPEAKER_01No, no, he wears like the Irish hats.
SPEAKER_02That's not cool then.
SPEAKER_01Jason Day.
SPEAKER_02Okay, I submitted my picks.
SPEAKER_01And Cam Young were uh DeWalt.
SPEAKER_02Should get the um the draft noise. Okay, I'll put my picks in the hockey thing.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so last week I picked Matt Fitzpatrick. And put a little scratch on it, you know, a little wager. And um, if you're listening right now, whoever I'm about to pick, you know, who knows? It could, you know, I'm not say I'm not not saying to put money on it, not saying that's what you should do, but don't promote gambling here. Well, I gotta excuse me, I had a scratch in my throat. Yeah. Um but yeah, so this week to win the 2026 Children's Houston, Texas Open.
SPEAKER_02Houston Children's Texas Open.
SPEAKER_01Okay, sorry.
SPEAKER_02Um Make sure to write this down.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I'm definitely writing it down. Okay, so before I pick, I'll say, you know, so if Scheffler's out of it, he was at three and a half. Win Minwali is at 15 to 1. Then you got Garup 20 to 1, Jake Knapp 22 to 1. Kepka 27 to 1.
SPEAKER_02I didn't even know that. I didn't know that.
SPEAKER_01That's what plus 27.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I thought it was like 4,000 odds. So I thought it was like out 4,000, he would win or something.
SPEAKER_01Nope. So so we'll say so. Brooks kept says plus 2700. That means it's 27 to 1. It means if you bet $1, you'd win 27.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_01So I'm ready. Um, I'm going to go with. I'm going to go with Brooks Kepka. That's right. Brooks Kepka. No, you just pick him for the top 25.
SPEAKER_02He's off the board. He's off the board, yeah. He's out. Out, done, over, nil.
SPEAKER_01No, I think Mason, I'm not, you that's not how it works. You have top 25.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01You picked Min Mu Li. That's the only person I can't pick.
SPEAKER_02Uh he's off the board. You can't take him anymore.
SPEAKER_01You pick Min Mu Li to win it. That's not that. What are you talking about? Look at it. It says Min Mu Li win. Top 25. Miss Cut.
SPEAKER_02You still can't do that.
SPEAKER_01No, yes, I can.
SPEAKER_02How would it work? If he would win, I would get top 25 and you would open it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02You can't pick the same player choice.
SPEAKER_01I'm not.
SPEAKER_02Pick some someone else.
SPEAKER_01No, it's Brooks Kepka to win it. You pick Min Lu Lee.
SPEAKER_02Let's pick Brooks Kepka.
SPEAKER_01For top 25. That's a totally different category.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Okay. A lot of the time. The next time I'm putting that out.
SPEAKER_01No, that's how it works. That's how it works. I'm picking Brooks Kepka.
SPEAKER_02Underlined, highlighted italic. We'll be able to miss it.
SPEAKER_01Um Brooks Kepa to win.
SPEAKER_02Kepa?
SPEAKER_01Brooks Kepka, sorry. To win. Um, yeah. So the only person I can't pick is Min Mu Lee.
SPEAKER_02Yep, you can I pick him.
SPEAKER_01And next week I go first. And whoever I pick, you can't pick. And that's it. You can pick anyone else. Doesn't matter if I pick them to cut or to miss uh miss the cut or top 25. Well, but you can pick whoever you feel you're right. I mean, last time you were you picked the guy to miss the cut and he he was leading after three rounds. So do what you want. But I'm uh I'm batting 500 here. All right, so the guy who's gonna miss cut, guy, guy I like, but you know, he he's been struggling a little bit, even though he had some some really, really um almost won a tournament. I mean he was down to the last stroke, but um going for a dip is Shane Lowry.
SPEAKER_02Shane Lowry Shane Lowry, the lowest odds on the entire um board here to miss the cut.
SPEAKER_01Well, I mean, there's more than that. And then top 25.
SPEAKER_02That's who's gonna miss the cut for you.
SPEAKER_01What's that?
SPEAKER_02That's who's gonna miss the cut for you.
SPEAKER_01So Lowry missed the cut. In top 25, I'm going Ricky Fowler.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Ricky. I was actually gonna pick him miss the cut, but I decided against it.
SPEAKER_01Oh, no way.
SPEAKER_02I don't think the if he doesn't have the orange hat, then he's not doesn't have the power.
SPEAKER_01Well, he wears the orange hat every Sunday.
SPEAKER_02Okay. That will uh some that will do it for us.
SPEAKER_01That'll do it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Are you sure?
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm. Yeah, I'm sure.
SPEAKER_01Do you have any um jokes you want to add?
SPEAKER_02No. I'm good.
SPEAKER_01You're good.
SPEAKER_02You want the flip slide.
SPEAKER_01That was 15 episode wait, no, it says episode 15, everyone. Tune in next week and till next time. See you later.
