Welcome to the Argue Your Point podcast. Here are your hosts, Jeff Meetri and Mason Meetri.
SPEAKER_01All right.
SPEAKER_03All right, let's go. Let's go. My name is Jeff Meetri.
SPEAKER_01I'm with Mason Meetri.
SPEAKER_03And Mason, set us up with the rundown. Tell us what we're talking about today.
SPEAKER_01Alright, we're gonna go with the Knicks. Start off with the Knicks being MBA champions. Go Knicks go to chains and tell chain. We're talking about World Cup, have them headlines today. And Hades free agents will have a fun little game. And we'll talk about PGA. Wrap it up.
SPEAKER_03Awesome. Let's go.
SPEAKER_01So you wanna start off?
SPEAKER_03I don't have anything in front of me. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. My bad. Um that's right, miss. So Mason's got the rundown today, and um and we watched the New York Knicks, the team that we've been following, finish it off, win their first championship in 53 years, and that's the only time other than another time that I remember experiencing you know the team that I rooted for winning a championship. And the other time was when World Cup in 2006, when Italy won World Cup, and I was in in Italy. Um of course, you know, I'm half Italian, Mason, you're a quarter of Italian, and um I get one of those tests. And I was I was uh I was rooting for the home team just like every game going along. For I was there, I was there in the summer of 2006 for every single game, and there was build-up to every single game. There was a celebration after every game, and when it was the final moments, when it comes down to like where the rubber meets the road, who's going to win the championship, it came down to penalty kicks, and the whole entire country is silent with nerves, you know, because it can go either way. It was very, very who did they play France. A lot of controversial calls, a lot of craziness went on in that country. Yeah. And um, and when they won, they won in the penalty kicks, the entire country celebrated. So, you know, we've been in towns when your the local football team has celebrated a win. Um, we've we've celebrated state championships. Um the Bills and the Sabres have still not won, but we we've seen what that's like in other cities. They have a parade, but when it's an entire country, it's a different scale. You know what I mean? It's it's everyone in that country. And in World Cup, it basically means in a way, we are better than you. And Europe's a big melting pot. So there's all kinds of different Europeans hanging out, going on vacation, seeing each other. And and I happen to live in a spot in that time in in Italy, in Rimini, where it's a big melting pot. It was a a lot of like you know, like partygoers. So the Italians had had the uh upper hand that whole summer, and um, that's what I remember of uh about winning a championship, and that's what it reminded me a little bit when the New York Knicks won. So that's that's my lead-in for today's podcast.
SPEAKER_01They won 5-3 on penalties.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Alright, um let's talk about Knicks here. So uh I'm so right at Transition? Yep. There's a button.
SPEAKER_03Alright, now we're talking New York Knicks.
SPEAKER_01So I was on um ESPN, and you could play with this whole thing where it'll show you the odds to win. And uh I looked at in I wanna say in between, but like three quarters away of the um third. So the fourth quarter was close to the game five you're talking about? Yep. Say about I do know, so it's about three minutes remaining in the second quarter. The next chance to win is 0.4.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Well, yeah, I know, yeah, that those live odds things. Um, it's crazy. But what I want to know, Mason, is really what you were thinking about, because you were the one who turned me on to the next. You were the one that had, you know, a tons of um positivity and optimism about this team. Um, what were you thinking when we realized, you know, this could happen, this will happen, this is this is happening. What what were you thinking?
SPEAKER_01Um, like what do you mean?
SPEAKER_03Okay, put pull your your eyes away from the screen. Just tell me what you were thinking when um you realized that the Knicks were gonna win the championship.
SPEAKER_01Um, I say this is well, we're a little ahead here, but game five, there's about two minutes remaining. Knicks are up by four, pretty sure.
SPEAKER_03Some somewhere on there, yeah.
SPEAKER_01So once they're up by four, it's a couple minutes remaining, it's really it's a very low chance to win because they just keep fouling and this next make their shots and right.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, they had the the recipe to win, but and then and then when they won, what what did you think?
SPEAKER_01Um, so it's crazy.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01I was gonna do a go New York song, you know.
SPEAKER_03Do you have one set up?
SPEAKER_01No, but I can because they'd be all copyrighted.
unknownOh.
SPEAKER_01Maybe I have something. Maybe I was JT T and screen, we did it.
SPEAKER_03Um yeah, I mean, I'll tell you that the New York Knicks, they are for for someone who just started getting into the NBA. I'm so glad that the the Knicks became my team. Not because they just won, because they're so exciting to watch. Jalen Brunson, um, you know, he's just a worker. He just he just never quits. He he really is an example of someone who never quits. He's always leading. The a lot of the commenters are saying before game five, someone else needs to step up other than Jalen Brunson. So he can't do it all.
SPEAKER_02We're not gonna game four here, though.
SPEAKER_03But guess what though? Wait, what okay? So game four when they came back had a huge cut comeback. Well, I mean the championship's over, so I'm talking about the championship. But I'm but I'm saying um after game four, they're like, someone else has to step up. What no, it was still Jalen Brunson stepping up, scoring 45 points to the to the rest of the the Knicks scoring 49.
SPEAKER_01Knicks are raised a 29-point death, largest comeback in NB Final history. Tipped in Jalen Brunson's missed three pointers, 1.2 seconds remaining. Give New York that victory. Um you weren't watching it, we weren't watching it.
SPEAKER_03We we fell asleep, yes, we did for game four, but we watched it the next day in replay. Um yeah, I know. Yeah, but uh we stayed up for the the game clincher. We watched that entire thing. That was that wasn't quite as big of a comeback, but game five, it was like we never led, you know, but we were never too far behind. I guess we're only f we were up to we're 15 points, I think, at the most. Yeah, that was the most.
SPEAKER_01Knicks, you know what the m the uh biggest lead for the Knicks in that game?
SPEAKER_03What's that?
SPEAKER_01One.
SPEAKER_03What what was the question?
SPEAKER_01Game five, their biggest lead was one. Oh, okay. Let's talk about game four. Stop. Really? Okay, yeah. Okay, so Brunson's 36 points, OG at 33. They scored in San Antonio 58 to 30. Jalen Brunson had more points in San Antonio, the Terra second half.
SPEAKER_03That's crazy. And a l a little side uh note too. I won 35. No, it wasn't 35. Yeah, I think I won $35 on a five leg parlay. Five legs.
SPEAKER_01Largest comeback MB history was 36 points.
SPEAKER_03Wow, I think that was probably the most legs I've s I've won in history.
SPEAKER_01How many legs?
SPEAKER_03Five.
SPEAKER_01That's a lot of legs.
SPEAKER_03That's a lot of legs. Three more than me. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Next had 14 playoff wins in the last 15 games. And this game was crazy. Like, I yeah, I had I was like, okay, we we were up I think we went asleep when they had the 13 over on. I was like, okay, it's still 17 points. But I knew they were gonna win it. I knew it. And yeah, come back.
SPEAKER_03They were awesome. They were exciting.
SPEAKER_01Um after the game, I knew we were gonna win it. I knew it.
SPEAKER_03But um I've seen I've seen teams win the NBA that were not nearly as exciting as the Knicks. The Knicks were just man, the the uh Jalen Brunson's he's just a winner. Um, but he was definitely all the other players that needed to stop shine, you know, even like um Hart, he Hart is a role player. Hart will will play any role you ask him to do, he won't complain about it, and he'll play one role, he'll he'll he'll play different roles on different games if he's asked to, and he has no problem with that. Um, because uh, you know, guess what? The end of the the season he's holding the Larry Brown trophy.
SPEAKER_01Larry O'Brien, not Larry O'Brien.
SPEAKER_03I'm sorry, Larry O'Brien, Larry O'Brien trophy. Um yeah, and uh I I I just I just love how um the buy-in, you know, and and and you know, this is also something that's not really brought up too much. Um Jalen Brunson left like 50 million dollars on the table by taking a huge pay cut by going to New York. And when he when he won, when he was being handed the MVP or or when he was being interviewed, he's like, This is what he's like, this is why I went to New York. This is why I came to New York to win. Um and you don't see that in athletes too often that someone's going to choose championship, winning a championship in a city that hasn't won in one in over a century over you know the paycheck, like uh Juan Soto. You know what I mean? He's just like uh I don't care who pays me, just pay me the most, and that's where I'm going.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you gotta pay like $10 million more than that. But um talk about Josh Hart. Uh it was pretty it was funny. Uh Josh Hart, he's a really um he's a really funny guy. He posted on Instagram with Jose Alvarado.
SPEAKER_03Changed his broke boy's life.
SPEAKER_01Jose Alvarado was the uh the Easter Hoff champion. It was just a joke.
SPEAKER_03What does he mean by broke? Is like now he's rich, or he wasn't.
SPEAKER_01I don't know. Because it showed February 4th, 2026 on the Pelcans, and then it showed next day on the next one.
SPEAKER_03All right.
SPEAKER_01But yeah, um Yeah, Knicks are champions. But talk about game five here. Wemby had fifth 19 points, 42 rebounds, five blocks. Dylan Harper had the most 25 points. And they had 16-point deficit, fourth double-digit comeback victory of the series. Brunson scored final record, 45 points for New York, including 13 consecutive Knicks points in the fourth quarter. I mean, finals on VP.
SPEAKER_03Wemby Wemby, I'm just adjusting so I can get a little more comfortable in my chair. Wemby's got a lot to learn. Wemby made a lot of rookie mistakes. He there was certain quarters in the series.
SPEAKER_02He has a lot to do with it.
SPEAKER_03Where he looked where he looked amazing. He's got to focus on basketball. He's focusing on drawing penalties by flopping in that. Oh my gosh, I can't believe how much the NBA was protecting him. That one foul that they originally called on him, then they reviewed it and they're like, oh, Brunson pushed him into it. It was like Brunson put his fingers on his hands.
SPEAKER_01Sorry, but when he flo when he fell down.
SPEAKER_03No, no, no. Robinson Rob, I meant I said Brunson, I meant Robinson. He put like his hands on no, no, it was Kat. I'm sorry. Oh, Kat pushed his hand on Wemby's um hips, and then he like Wemby like hip-checked um heart, and then they reversed the call and said, No, he uh they they put the foul on you got everything. You got all the no, it wasn't cat. It wasn't heart, it wasn't heart.
SPEAKER_01Yes, it was Holy Alvarado.
SPEAKER_03No, it wasn't. Yeah, it was no, it wasn't not the one I'm talking about. Maybe you're talking about a different one. The one I'm referring to is that Kat was pushing Web Miyama when Miyama Webby um hip checked heart, and then they reviewed it, and they gave the foul on Kat instead of Webby.
SPEAKER_01Okay, yeah, we're not talking about that.
SPEAKER_03That's what I'm talking about.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_03Now you got me fired up.
SPEAKER_01But uh next are the champions, the parade will be today.
SPEAKER_03Go, New York, go, New York, go.
SPEAKER_01Parade would be today, the day of this is published.
SPEAKER_03Today? No, tomorrow. It's gonna be tomorrow, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Today we this is the one that'll be published today.
SPEAKER_03Every Thursday, we we have to advertise this. We I got some cleaning up to do, I got some more work to do. All right. We have to advertise every Thursday a new episode of AYP comes out every Thursday. What's your point? My point is get ready for Thursdays.
SPEAKER_01I'm having too much fun here. All right, now we're gonna talk about the Carolina Hurricanes. They are the ancient championship. I should have like I have like a little scaling cup. Now I should get like a little Larry.
SPEAKER_03The what? Boo.
SPEAKER_01Why are we booing them?
SPEAKER_03Because Carolina Hurricanes.
SPEAKER_01What's wrong with them?
SPEAKER_03What's wrong with them? A lot is wrong with them. First of all.
SPEAKER_01I'm asking you what's wrong with them.
SPEAKER_03It was two teams in the finals that are warm climate teams.
SPEAKER_01How does that have anything to do with NHL? That had nothing to do with the finals.
SPEAKER_03Community, the fans.
SPEAKER_01You're like, um, you know, I don't I don't like the uh hurricanes because there's one player ate Taco Bell once, and I don't like their that place, so I'm not gonna like it.
SPEAKER_03Okay, I got a problem with warm climate hockey teams, alright?
SPEAKER_01So you got a problem with about half of the hockey team? Yeah. You don't like half a league, now you don't like Florida Panthers. Don't like Nope which teams do you like besides Sabres?
SPEAKER_03Edmonton, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, like Montreal after they Philly eliminated us. Um I don't like them, but I like them as a team and as a fan base. Uh Vancouver. Edmonton, all right, all right, all right. Seattle. It goes in Seattle, doesn't it? Yeah, it does.
SPEAKER_01All right, we gotta but uh I got the little I got the um the thing here every period.
SPEAKER_03So Jarlett Hall scores 347 for so you're doing the the recap of games.
SPEAKER_01Chickup Taylor scores 347 first period.
SPEAKER_03There is a guy in NHL Network that does this. Um he did an awesome job, and I thought of you.
SPEAKER_01Oh, wait, wait, okay. Let me let's just just do this after. Okay.
SPEAKER_03Can you do a little background music? Or I'll do that after I do this.
SPEAKER_01I'll do this uh tomorrow. Maybe I can make some Jackson Blake scores at 1331 second period. It's just right, Logan's Tankoven. You know how the Sabres do it? They're like whenever they score super loud. Like Jackson Blake's like Jackson Blake scores 1331. No, it's like super quiet. Then Nikolai, I'll heard the disguise voice too. That only works in yours. Or the empty neck goal on 1852 third period to seal a 3-0 victory. What do you want me to do?
SPEAKER_03Um, do the deep voice.
SPEAKER_02Goal! Number 72 Thompson.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that was good.
SPEAKER_01I like it. But we got a lot of um, we got a lot of ground to cover here.
SPEAKER_03All right.
SPEAKER_01Now they had a Carolina shell victory. They um score once in each period, and Vagos scoreless. Now, Carolina, I think they had like 13 years in the playoffs in a row. They never actually went to the never won it. But now we're gonna talk about Carolina.
SPEAKER_03They said that he they said that was their second Stanley Cup.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'm talking about like I don't think 13, but it's a long time in a row that they went to the playoffs and they never went to the Stanley Cup. Not like 30 years. Uh okay, now we're gonna talk about the international sport of the world. Soccer.
SPEAKER_03Are we at headlines yet, or is this just a soccer segment?
SPEAKER_01World Cup. And we also have some AYP new uh I'm gonna clear something out here.
SPEAKER_03All those headlines that we're gonna go through those, right?
SPEAKER_01Yep. Okay, I just want to say something here. Whenever we're talking about World Cup, we'll be focusing on these teams. Not today, but after um next episode, we'll be talking about these teams. Okay, and let me see the teams. Let me see the teams.
SPEAKER_03But I I I do want to schedule a World Cup specialist, Kevin. He's gonna be on the show um at a future, maybe next episode. But definitely during the World Cup. And that does last a long time. So go okay, go ahead.
SPEAKER_01So the team we'll be focusing on is Norway, Spain, Portugal, France, Argentina, USA, and Brazil.
SPEAKER_03Man, slow that down. That was a little too fast. Norway, USA, Portugal. All right, Brazil.
SPEAKER_01I got it, I got it, I got it. Alright, you're gonna be muted if you do that again. Norway, Spain, Portugal, France, Argentina, United States of America, Brazil.
SPEAKER_03No, no Germany?
SPEAKER_01No Germany.
SPEAKER_03Why not?
SPEAKER_01Because it's too many teams. Satan.
SPEAKER_03Oh, I might have to squeeze Germany in there. But okay, go ahead. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Alright, so we're gonna I made my own uh little headline for this one. But talk about US real quick. US opened our home World Cup campaign with a convincing 4-1 victory over Paraguay.
SPEAKER_03US A.
SPEAKER_01Now they had now in um World Cup, the differential really counts from the table. Yeah. So they have the plus three differential. They are they are favored to win their um group. I think they're group E or D.
SPEAKER_03And when we play, if we I um I think they said that.
SPEAKER_01The group D.
SPEAKER_03Um if we win or tie Australia, we're we're we're in.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. But um Christian Polisic and Melik Tillman each record says now um we had three el lead at halftime. It was a great game. Three points, emphatic statement from Star Studded Cloud. I need uh I need to take a break here. The US med national team begins the World Cup with three points, emphatic statement from all from a star-studded crowd at Los Angeles. Now, here are my own little tidbits tidbits I put in here.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_01Messi scored a hat trick for Argentina.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that was yesterday. That was awesome.
SPEAKER_01Spain drops in favor after draw for Cabo Verde. That is breaking news.
SPEAKER_03I actually draw they had a draw?
SPEAKER_01Yep. I had it like on my phone. I have a little thing where I predict every day. I'll predict all the matches. I had them winning easily. And I got everyone right beside that one. Oh, okay. Well, no, I see. So now we're talking about um as of today, you know how talking about those teams. So Portugal tied today versus the R Congo 1-1. Goal scored by Joao Nevez for Portugal and Yoane was.
SPEAKER_03Oh, they drew. That was a draw, Portugal?
SPEAKER_01Yep, they drawed. That was today. I have all the teams.
SPEAKER_03And then England, Croatia playing right now, right? What's the screen?
SPEAKER_011-0 England at 19th minute.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_01And uh, let's see, who are these? And Austria versus I'm gonna go Austria of Jordan. Austria won 3-1. Favorite in that. Now, um, let's get back here. So Spain was a favorite, was like close to top of favorite after winning the world to win the World Cup, and they dropped from way far down. Wow. Drawing with a team that barely even got in.
SPEAKER_03Are there current power rankings?
SPEAKER_01I can check.
SPEAKER_03Um gotta put Germany on there.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I can maybe I'll do a power ranking. I can do power rankings soon. So this is June 9th. This is when the power rankings is. It's Spain number one.
SPEAKER_03That's before, yeah, that's so that's before the tournament.
SPEAKER_01And then I'll do and I'll retype it, and I'll do June 17. Or technically 18. And then re-ranking it says right here eight hours ago. France number one, Argentina number two, England number three. Now I'm gonna go try to find Spain. Spain is let's see, number five. It went from number one, number five. Germany's actually number four. But that is crazy. You go from that's like the next number one, they go all the way down to number five. So basically taking to put it in perspective here, it's like getting number one overall pick, and then you go to number five overall pick. So it's a huge bump. But so yesterday I was studying for a final exam, and uh in the background I had a I had uh Norway Iraq, and Holland looked good. I never knew he was from um Norway. I thought he was from like England.
SPEAKER_03Who?
SPEAKER_01Holland.
SPEAKER_03Oh, Holland, who's Holland?
SPEAKER_01It's a uh soccer player.
SPEAKER_03From what team? Like what team when he's not playing national?
SPEAKER_01Norway. He plays for Norway. That's his national team. Yep. He plays for the team.
SPEAKER_03What's his team? What's his team when he's not playing for the national team? Manchester. Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he is key. He is a all-star player, really.
SPEAKER_03Is he? And also I'll thought you're talking about the country of Holland. Yeah. I was like, yeah. I got confused there. In Germany, Crusoe. I'm wearing Holland national chat right now.
SPEAKER_01Crusher Suraquow. Sirike.
SPEAKER_03Um Syracwau.
SPEAKER_01Suraquow. Seven to one. And that is all we got for World Cup.
SPEAKER_03Carouso. I'm sorry, Carouso.
SPEAKER_01Next time I'll have some more World Cup stuff. I'm not I don't know too much about it yet, even though I'm trying to be a referee. But um hopefully I'll watch some videos, try to learn a bit more.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Keep you guys educated. Now we got you. We got you.
SPEAKER_03We can have Kevin on the specialist. He can answer any questions that we might have. Yeah. And that might be helpful for the listeners as well. Yes as well. Ready? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Oh.
SPEAKER_03What did we do? I'm not even sure. Oh, we're transitioning.
SPEAKER_01Headlines! So, um my favorite part. I just want to note here. Uh, we have Brendan Sorby. He's entering the supplementary draft.
SPEAKER_03Brendan Sorby.
SPEAKER_01I just let me speak here. Let me let me speak here. Sorby? Let me speak here. I added what the NFL supplementary draft is. I added what it is.
SPEAKER_03So Well, first lay it out. What you're talking about. Nobody knows what we're talking about.
SPEAKER_01You're talking about headlines here. Brendan Sorsby, a former Texas Tech Cincinnati quarterback entering the 2026 NFL supplementary draft.
SPEAKER_03Hold on, back it up though. Why you have to what's the headline?
SPEAKER_01I am going. You put it after, okay? He admitted to placing over 9,000 wagers, totally $990,000 on various college and professional sports during his collegiate career. Activity included about 40 bets of his own team, Indiana, while he was a freshman. So none were on games he actually played in. So the I got I That's probably why he can he is like not super suspended.
SPEAKER_03It's probably because he No Corruption. No, that's not why. What are you it is it's purely corruption?
SPEAKER_01Helps.
SPEAKER_03Helps what? You're saying that the NCAA looked at that and said, okay, you bet you made 9,000 bets in your four-year college career. You bet $90,000. 40 of those bets were on your own team. But you weren't playing at the time. So yeah, I guess no suspension. So yeah, so no, that's fine for you to point that out. Um, but that's the only like kind of silver line, and you could say, well, he didn't bet on his own team while he was actually playing. But um but there's a lot wrong with it. There's a there's a lot of teams and players that are publicly saying and GMs that are saying, I would not want this guy in my team, I don't care about the talent. And then there's other guys that are just like, yeah, we that's you can we can correct that if the talent's there, um, we'll put them on a roster and give them you know the fair chance that um everyone else gets. And we'll work on the whole gambling addiction thing. He's he's entered into rehab. Um when you when you talk about those kind of bets and that amount of money in that span of time, he's deep into the addiction of gambling, he's deep into it. So can he fully recover?
SPEAKER_02Here's the thing about Blackfeld.
SPEAKER_03It's not it's I'm not saying he can't, but it's he's got a road ahead of him. But yours crazy. I don't even know if he's the kind of person that um is willing to you know fix himself.
SPEAKER_01But in um 20, I think, 18, um, I think it was Calvin Ridley, I'm trying to think here.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, there was a guy who bet this is before um sports scale and building.
SPEAKER_01So he was gambling for the interior in 2022, gambling for the entire season for gambling. He made a couple bets. If he makes and you if you if Brandon Thorme makes one bet, he's going to be suspended.
SPEAKER_02For one, yep.
SPEAKER_01Let's say if he does the NFL, he would be suspended definitely. He would be in infinitely, he would never come back.
SPEAKER_03They come down hard on that.
SPEAKER_01They don't want to um he'd probably be fine like a hundred grand or something.
SPEAKER_03They come down harder on that than domestic violence, um, because it it it questions the integrity of the game. And even though they have you know, that you people could say they're in bed with the gambling um sites, DraftKings and FanDuel and all that, um you can't just because they're making profit on it, you know, they have language that says you can't participate in it. You are in the NFL, you can't participate in it. That's fine. That's it's the same thing when um you know they made marijuana legal in Colorado, but it's illegal for NFL players to participate in that. You know, just because it's people around you with different jobs can do something doesn't mean that you the same rules apply to you. So that's the same thing in gambling. Just because it's legal for normal folk to, you know, like for me to put a bet on um a Brayu to s to hit a home run in Fenway Park, it's not okay for him to do that or his you know manager or something.
SPEAKER_01It's like um even if you're an NCA athlete, you can even do stuff like like if you're doing uh pri like fantasy football. We have this. Right. You can't even do that. You can't even do a best betting. All right, uh we had to we have a uh wait. Can we can I say something? What we have a sabers trade.
SPEAKER_03Right now? Yep. Live on the air?
SPEAKER_01Three minutes ago.
SPEAKER_03Is it a hold on before you tell this to me?
SPEAKER_01It's not like a nobody, it's not an HL. It's an HL trade.
SPEAKER_03Is it a big trade?
SPEAKER_01I wouldn't say it's huge. I wouldn't say it's like Tay Thompson, but I think it's decent.
SPEAKER_03I'm all ears.
SPEAKER_01Michael Kesslering.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_01Trade to the Sharks by the Sabres. Oh, he traded to San Jose Sharks by the Sabres. Team swap, first round picks, Buffalo receiving number 20, San Jose thinking number 27.
SPEAKER_03Wow, we just moved up from 27 in the first round, which is gonna take place in Buffalo, New York, later this month. We should go to it. We gotta we gotta reach out to the media people to get us some media credentials. I wanna I want to I want to interview some employers.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I don't know. What do we think about it? Instant thoughts about it.
SPEAKER_03Instant thoughts? I like it. Michael Kesslering didn't you wanna look up his stats?
SPEAKER_01Uh it says right here.
SPEAKER_03Okay, tell us what he did last year.
SPEAKER_01This year he did uh 34 assists regular season, no points and no points.
SPEAKER_0334 assists is 34 points.
SPEAKER_01Had two assists, had two assists and 34 regular season games for same thing season.
SPEAKER_0334 games, two assists. Yep. Two points. Okay. Yeah. I didn't think his stats were going to be that flashy, but that's actually even worse than I thought. So yeah, you trade this guy who barely did anything for Buffalo to move up seven spots in the first round from 27 to 20. Yeah, I like it. There were so many trades.
SPEAKER_01There are a lot of trades today. Colton from Colorado.
SPEAKER_03Who?
SPEAKER_01Um Colton, I guess. I don't know his guy's name.
SPEAKER_03His last name? Colton Ellis, our goaltender?
SPEAKER_01Nope. Ross Colton from Carolina.
SPEAKER_03If you pull up TSN, if you pull up TSN.ca.
SPEAKER_01Alright, all right, let's go.
SPEAKER_03You can do the trade, the trade tracker and the signing tracker, and then they they'll categorize what a big one is and what not a big one is. Alright, so what's next up on the headlines?
SPEAKER_01So we got I think I'll say what supplementary draft is.
SPEAKER_03Oh, okay. Yeah, let's let's I don't really know.
SPEAKER_01Alright, um I'm I will I might mute you if you say a single word. I know. Make single sound. Like here you go, I'm gonna stop it.
SPEAKER_03Then I'm gonna take away your mute controls.
SPEAKER_01Oh, you can do that. Alright, so teams do not use standard standard draft words instead. They submit bids using future draft picks. Highest bid winning players' rights. So let me just put this in uh let me just make this a little more simpler. Let's say the Carolina Panthers want Brendan Thorby. They would say, We'll give you a fourth round pick. But fourth round pick, listen to me, pick 182. And then seconds can be like, well, we want more, so we'll give you pick 162. So every team with the highest bid will win the player.
SPEAKER_02Oh wow.
SPEAKER_01Now the point of it is for players who who missed the deadline, who had uh were axed down eligibility eligible, I guess. Yep, or disciplinary.
SPEAKER_03Or or if you gambled 90 grand.
SPEAKER_01Most recent one is in 2023. But the most most recent uh supplement drafts in 2023, but no players are actually selected. There's some decent players.
SPEAKER_03Oh, no kidding. So sometimes I can have it, no one even gets selected.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_03But so this one he probably will get because he's because he's high profile. I don't remember. But I don't know. How good is he? Can you look up his stats?
SPEAKER_01Um people say that um like a guy from ESPN, I don't know his name, but he said he'd be the number two overall quarterback in the draft if he Oh okay.
SPEAKER_03I did hear the the guys on get up this morning. Um there was varying opinions, but I do think I did hear some something like that. Yeah, so that's good then. I I don't know what his stat look at his stats. Okay honestly, I don't think I've even heard of him until the gambling boycott issue came out. Did you?
SPEAKER_01I knew a tiny bit, that was it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah, so I have that TSN thing. Uh maybe I'll go through the trades. Um trades mean.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah, so signings start July 1st, yeah. So I guess these are just trades.
SPEAKER_01I'll just do the last couple from the big ones? Um, let's see here.
SPEAKER_03If they're not big, and we don't need to hear about Joe Schmoe from Idaho.
SPEAKER_01Uh let's go. Flyer, actually, Oregon. So the Maple Leafs and the Flyers. Maple Leaf traded Emile Andre, Samuel Erson, and a 2026 third round pick for Simon Bunroy and Joseph Wool.
SPEAKER_03Benoit?
SPEAKER_01Benoit. And the other way around, but that's who received. I'm looking at the trades. Not a crazy amount. And then after that, there's like not it's like four or five, and then after that's just the trade deadline. There's a lot of um, there's a couple trades, but they're not really guy for third.
SPEAKER_03Do we have any more headlines we can get to? Because we're at the 31 minute mark.
SPEAKER_01Um let's move on from Brendan Swords.
SPEAKER_03I think we've uh talked about him. So uh you've given our opinion.
SPEAKER_01We could either go on a bunch more. Yeah, let's hear another headline. I'll go one more and then we'll stop.
SPEAKER_03Oh just you know, get go to the next one. Got a few written down, I think.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you got a lot. The bo the first new Buffalo Bison installed in Heimberg Stadium. Mixed reviews. People either like it or hate it.
SPEAKER_03Have you seen it?
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_03Oh, okay. Well, as you're looking that up, and then we'll get your opinion. I'll tell you mine. I like it. There's it's it's futuristic. I don't know. People want I think people wanted brown. Um they wanted, you know, something that looked like you see at the Buffalo Zoo in the in in Delaware, how you could see him from Delaware Park, the the Buffalo, the bison. That um is shaped like the bison. I don't even know how to describe it. It's you know, but um I think people wanted that jumbo. It's a little bit different, it's got different colors, it's futuristic looking. Um I gotta fuddle with it. It almost looks like an ornament.
SPEAKER_01All right.
SPEAKER_03What do you think?
SPEAKER_01Here's my opinion here.
SPEAKER_03My uncle Greg doesn't like it. Um I mean, your Uncle Greg, my brother, doesn't like it.
SPEAKER_01All right, um, he has a lot of hot takes.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, he's full of hot takes. It's all he has is hot takes. Yeah, but we'll we'll get into that. He likes to know.
SPEAKER_01So I'm looking at the side of it. Um the shape of it.
SPEAKER_03Can I see it too? Can you turn your computer?
SPEAKER_01I don't I mean, I don't hate it, but I don't love it.
SPEAKER_03Oh, this is in the studio. Yeah, I don't really so this is like a like a baby one. This isn't the biggest one.
SPEAKER_01It's not like the renderings look like cool. Like that, like the rendering look like it is.
SPEAKER_03They do look different than the renderings.
SPEAKER_01I will I wish to something like this, like as well.
SPEAKER_03That's what, yeah, that's what I was describing. A brown, bronzy, you know, buffalo that you see on decorations and people have all around buffalo businesses.
SPEAKER_01But uh I don't hate it, but I don't like it that much. It's like 50-50.
SPEAKER_03All right, well, I agree your point.
SPEAKER_01All right, um, ready to move on?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, let's move on. Well, what's the next headline?
SPEAKER_01The NHL. Hegeline? There's a lot of them.
SPEAKER_03It's like uh Giannis. Just go through them real quick. You don't even have to you don't have to debate them, just go through them.
SPEAKER_01Michael Wilson blasts Giannis for acting like a diva.
SPEAKER_03No, Michael Wilburne.
SPEAKER_01Michael Wilburne.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, from PTI.
SPEAKER_01Uh Caroline Hurricanes with psychic Stanley Cup. Yep. Guy Sheffield chases the Grand Slam at Brutal 126. All right, we're gonna go NHL.
SPEAKER_03So wait, wait, let's just pick let's just pick one of those.
SPEAKER_01We already did one. I said that's all we're gonna do.
SPEAKER_03Alright, go ahead.
SPEAKER_01All right, good. So I have a bunch of NHL free agents here, decent ones, and I put them into elite, all-star good, decent, and then some special cases here.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_01So the elites are Alex Avechkin. If he doesn't hold 38.
SPEAKER_03No, he's in his I think he might be 40 or 42.
SPEAKER_01Anze Kapachar?
SPEAKER_03He's retired.
SPEAKER_01No, he's not.
SPEAKER_03He announced he might be technically a free agent, but he announced his retirement. He played his last game. Anze Kupitar, he's a class act, what am I for non-Saber player? The Bob, he's gonna be expensive.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and the All-Star. Overpaid. Number one on the All-Star, Alex Tuck. John Carlson, Razenthal Anderson, Evander Cain, Jackson Dickinson, Olivar Bajorka stand, and Carrie Price. If Helline capable of playing at a reasonable level.
SPEAKER_03I'm just an asterisk. Yeah, and Vander Kane, we can just you know put that name on a piece of paper, crinkle it up, and throw it in the garbage.
SPEAKER_01You don't like him?
SPEAKER_03Evander Kane, no.
SPEAKER_01Uh yeah, you don't like him, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Not a Vander. Patrick Kane is a different story.
SPEAKER_01Isn't Patrick Kane play for Sabres?
SPEAKER_03No, he Patrick Kane from Buffalo.
SPEAKER_01Yep. From Asthenica.
SPEAKER_03From Seneca. He he uh he came to the the hockey rank riding a Zamboni with the Stanley Cub when he won it for Chicago and and he touched the con smythe.
SPEAKER_01Isn't he um isn't he like uh let me think. Are they brothers, Evander and Patrick Kane?
SPEAKER_03No, they're not related.
SPEAKER_01No? Alright, good. Patrick Lane, Jacob Truba, Michael Bunting.
SPEAKER_03Oh, Patrick Kane is a free agent?
SPEAKER_01Yes, I just said that.
SPEAKER_03Oh, okay, because he said Evander.
SPEAKER_01Mason Marshmant, Jamie Olysiak, Connor Murphy. I said Patrick Lane, like Ellie. Lyine. Patrick Lane. Connor Murphy.
SPEAKER_03He's an underachiever, someone with like a ton of talent but doesn't really. Um Andre Kuzmenko consistently.
SPEAKER_01Matt Zucarello, Jaden Schwartz, Ilya Mikayev, Vladimir. Vladimir Terasenko. Terasenko. Then we got the decent. We got Kevin Hayes, Andre Lee, Nick Folino, John Kleinberg, Peter Morlig. Then we got special cases. Shea Weber, if he doesn't retire. Well, he's effectively retired. Carrie Price, Elite Clear, currently ranking independently in health and ability to play.
SPEAKER_03Okay. I think they should sign Alex Tuck. If they don't, the Sabres should sign Alex Tuck. I think it's worth it. Um, I want them to do it. I don't care if when he the end of the contract, he'll be 41 or something. I don't care. Do it. Um, there's these guys in the league right now. If you look at Alex Vechkin, uh Alex Ovechkin, um Matt Zuccarella, Jordan Stahl, um uh Cordy Perry. Look at their stats in the in the offseason. I'm sorry, look at their stats in the regular season and in the postseason. They all have been playing at a very high level, these guys that are 38 and above.
SPEAKER_02All right, all right.
SPEAKER_03So, yeah, sign Tuck to a long term. If you don't sign Tuck to a long term, you better sign another guy that's just like Tuck, an older veteran that can score and and um John Carlson add some calmness or stability to the locker room because we're gonna have a we're gonna have some young talent next year that we didn't have last year, and that's Helenas and Oslin. Those guys are gonna be studs in this league, but we can't do it with just a bunch of 20-year-olds. We need veteran presence.
SPEAKER_01All right, all right, okay, here so we want to switch up.
SPEAKER_03Wait, I take so long. That was my rant about sign Alex Tuck. All right.
SPEAKER_01Alright, you couldn't just say that one sentence. All right, game. So I have a pack of cards here. Okay, these are NFL cards, I got them for free. Don't ask out. I just did. Alright? You're gonna take these cards and shuffle them around as good as you can. And now you're gonna take them out, and I have to pick four guys to keep and eight to get rid of. And you have to shuffle them around, that's important.
SPEAKER_03Well, you you haven't looked at these, right? I have not. So why do we need to shuffle them?
SPEAKER_01Because because some of them sometimes like the bad players at the front, so I want to shuffle around. Right?
SPEAKER_03So it's very exciting. Wow, you've never seen these before. This is oh, whoa, what is this?
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_03Oh, that's like a security thing in there.
SPEAKER_01Government tracking security tag. I can make it from over here.
SPEAKER_03Okay. I have shuffled the deck of these. Hold on, let me explain what this is. Panini. Um what year is this? 2025. Score bubble.
SPEAKER_01These are new ones. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Jordan Love on the cover. Alright. What do you okay? You want me to read them off?
SPEAKER_01You're gonna give me a player, alright, and I'm gonna say either keep or get or I'm gonna say either keep or cut. And let's say let me finish. Let me finish. Let me finish. Okay. And I'm gonna say either keep or cut. It's only four spots. You don't have to charge it or anything.
SPEAKER_03Alright. Keep or cut.
SPEAKER_01You have to say the name.
SPEAKER_03Can we get some background music or something, you know? Because this is kind of like. There we go. Hit it. Alright. We've got number one, Travis E.T.N. Jr. running back. Jacksonville.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna shake him.
SPEAKER_03Keep or cut?
SPEAKER_01Keep.
SPEAKER_03Okay. Next up, Braden Fisk, defensive tackle. LA Rams. Keep or cut?
SPEAKER_01Cut.
SPEAKER_03Cut, okay. And next up, we got Garrett Wilson, wide receiver, New York Jets. Keep or cut?
SPEAKER_01I'm a keeper.
SPEAKER_03Alright, that's a keeper. And we're going old school. Hold on, let me see what year this is.
SPEAKER_01We'll just say 25.
SPEAKER_03No, it doesn't say. It's got a stance, but doesn't show the year. Alright. Running back, William Andrews. Atlanta. Atlanta Falcons.
SPEAKER_01Now he was good, but I already have a running back, so I'm going to cut.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_01Mistake of mine there.
SPEAKER_03Oh, and now we've got some good ones here. We're talking Kyler Murray, quarterback formerly of the Arizona Cardinals.
SPEAKER_01Now I know he's like the best quarterback in the cut him. Right now because my team is being a little big here.
SPEAKER_03Good choice, if I must say. I would cut him day one. Okay. Savion Williams, wide receiver. Cut. Okay. I don't even have to. Okay, that's Green Bay. And we've got DJ Giddens, running back. Indianapolis Colts.
SPEAKER_01I'm a cut.
SPEAKER_03That's a rookie. That's a rookie. Okay. Another rookie here. We got another rookie. O'Marian Hampton, running back. Los Angeles Chargers.
SPEAKER_01Technically he's not a rookie, but I think.
SPEAKER_03Well, this is 25.
SPEAKER_01Uh Marion Hampton. He broke his leg, so I'm gonna say no. Cut.
SPEAKER_03Alright.
SPEAKER_01You need to start picking some guys up here.
SPEAKER_03Jalen Polk, wide receiver, New England Patriots.
SPEAKER_01Why would I ever hope? No.
SPEAKER_03Okay, yeah. Sack attack, look out. Brian Burns, defensive end, New York Giants.
SPEAKER_01But we need it. Keep. I already have this card, but okay.
SPEAKER_03And let's celebrate quarterback Jaden Daniels, Washington.
SPEAKER_01Keep. Alright, I have more. What's the last one?
SPEAKER_03Last but not least, linebacker Jordan Brooks, Miami Dolphins.
SPEAKER_01Alright, I think I did a decent keep a cut. Well, I don't have more spaces.
SPEAKER_03Keeper cut.
SPEAKER_01Cut, I guess.
SPEAKER_03Okay. I needed an answer there to make it official. All right.
SPEAKER_01Now we got PGA. Now, do you want me to go over the last week results to right now or at the end?
SPEAKER_03Uh let's do it now, but I just want to say that was a fun segment. Um, I always thought I'd be good at announcing the scores at the Sabres game because the guy who does it is just like the second goal of the game scored by number 72. Tage Thompson.
SPEAKER_01All right, so uh to go first in the uh score, or you first uh uh tell us what happened last week. All right, you go first, I guess. So you got the remote. Now you re picks. Your favorite Brooks Kepka. This is the first time in eight YP history. He withdrawed from the tournament.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and he's playing to he's playing So I marked him even. Tomorrow, but well he withdrew.
SPEAKER_01I just marked him even.
SPEAKER_03All right.
SPEAKER_01Midfielder, Nick Taylor, tied sixty five, even.
unknownYep.
SPEAKER_03Finished even. Yep.
SPEAKER_01Midfielder, Mackenzie Hughes, cut plus two. But we made a rule that they have to be at least plus three to be even. Playing field for everyone.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_01So it was plus three. You ended it with plus three.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, because you only played two rounds, and you're comparing them to other guys who played four rounds.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so I don't think it was all right. So now I go up. Now Kay Wrighton tied 60, minus one.
SPEAKER_03Minus one.
SPEAKER_01And I have Shane Lowry, tied 29, minus eight.
SPEAKER_03Alright.
SPEAKER_01Long shot, Max Homa, timed 20, minus nine. I won't. Minus nine, Max Homa. That's great. Minus eighteen.
SPEAKER_03He's been struggling so bad, Max Homa. He just he's had hills and valleys, but his his hills have not been very high.
SPEAKER_01All right.
SPEAKER_03And he hasn't won a tournament. I can't remember the he hasn't won a tournament in years. Um he's been in contention a few times, but he hasn't won in a while.
SPEAKER_01What episode is this? 27.
SPEAKER_03But I like Max. Don't get me wrong. This is 27. Right. Episode 27.
SPEAKER_01Just only read the name there. Do not write the place. Because I do that after.
SPEAKER_03Um I d I don't have a list to go from, but I know who I'm picking number one. This is.
SPEAKER_01This is the odds.
SPEAKER_03Okay, so I I go the first two?
SPEAKER_01Yep. No, no, no. You only go the first one. No, I thought I think I actually go first this time. Because the last time you went, I snaked.
SPEAKER_03No, I think you didn't.
SPEAKER_01No, I I watched the podcast.
SPEAKER_03You listened to the last episode?
SPEAKER_01I listened to the end of it because I forgot the names. No, take that back. No, you go actually first. Never mind. I watched the wrong one. Never mind. I only watched the last like two minutes.
SPEAKER_03I could have thought. Oh, this is wait, why are the there's only you've only got one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine favorites? That makes no sense.
SPEAKER_01Well, you only have two people picking.
SPEAKER_03What?
SPEAKER_01We only have two people picking.
SPEAKER_03It's supposed to be a third of the field.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but if a third of field is well, you won't have more for the midfielders. Alright, just go.
SPEAKER_03Just go, just go. It's supposed to be a third.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, can you just go?
SPEAKER_03So so I'm thinking like these midfielders like DeChambeau, Sam Burns, those guys are favorites. 45 to 1, that's a favorite.
SPEAKER_02Alright.
SPEAKER_03It's when it gets to like 75 to 1, probably go to midfield. Like Shane Large. Alright, alright. I already know who I'm gonna pick because it's basically between two people. Alright, I'm gonna tell you who those two people are, and then I'm gonna make my decision. Cameron Young is from New York. The U.S. Open is in New York. He's um and he's having a fantastic year. Matt Fitzpatrick also having a fantastic year. Like a maybe a career year. I mean, he hasn't won. I mean, if he wins a major this year, then it will definitely be a career year. His um all of his categories are in the top ten, um, the ones that count anyway. So I I'm to me for a favorite, I'm picking between Matt Fitzpatrick or Kim Young. Obviously, I know Rory or Scotty, they those guys can do it. Um, but I but I'm not I'm not focused on those two guys. I'm focused on Matt, Kim, Young.
SPEAKER_01You're gonna focus on two.
SPEAKER_03And I'm gonna go.
SPEAKER_01You want to focus on?
SPEAKER_03Yes, I do. I'm gonna go with Matt Fitzpatrick. I'm going for it. Wait, I go I go twice.
SPEAKER_01No, you don't go twice, I do. Snake doesn't work like that.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_01So for me, who do you pick?
SPEAKER_03Oh, I I wrote the place, that's right.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, don't write the place.
SPEAKER_03You have to you have to write um print this. I already printed out a bunch of things.
SPEAKER_01Alright, so I'm not picking Rom because he's a live. I'm not picking O'Bark he doesn't play great. Not picking Fleetwood, not picking Shoffley.
SPEAKER_03Rory! Rory Alright.
SPEAKER_01Now I go midfield.
SPEAKER_03I'm telling you, there's a lot of favorites in that midfield.
SPEAKER_01Alright, um.
SPEAKER_03So go ahead.
SPEAKER_01I don't think I'm gonna take it to Chambeau. I think I'm gonna take Burns. I'm taking Burns.
SPEAKER_03Um Sam Burns.
SPEAKER_01That's both too good.
SPEAKER_03Sam Burns got totally screwed over in the U.S. Open last year at Oakmont. His ball was in a puddle. And he asked for a relief, and they're like, no, I can't get any relief. And of course it only goes, you know, like a quarter the distance that it should have. Okay, sitting in the puddle of water.
SPEAKER_01Don't move it, don't move it. Well, I have to look at it. I want you to do this. But I can't, okay.
SPEAKER_03All right, so you go two times in a row now. Okay, I'm not taking Cap Gub because he's got a hand issue. He he can play, but he's not gonna win, I don't think. Midfield? Oh, you got Wyndham Clark in there. Um got all that approved. You got JJ Spawn in there. Who who can who can't forget the Oakman, JJ all the way. But you know what I'm gonna know who I'm gonna go with? Oh, you got Russell Henley who's playing really good. Go with Chris Godder up.
SPEAKER_01Got her up, huh?
SPEAKER_03Get her up, got her up. Oh man.
SPEAKER_01I'll be on the wall of fame thing.
SPEAKER_03Oh, I go twice here? Yeah. Okay. Long shots. A lot of I this is uh the U.S. Open, so there's obviously a lot of good long shots. I see Daniel Berger there down at 175 to 1. Can you can you cue the beau music when I say the word Daniel Berger? He's not a fan of the show. PGA tour professional Daniel Berger. Whenever his name is mentioned the show, we gotta boo him. Alright. Double boo. Um you know who I'm going with a long shot, Mason? Daniel Burger. Nope. I'm going with Alex. Fifth pattern.
SPEAKER_01I think I was gonna take that. I was gonna take him.
SPEAKER_03Were you?
SPEAKER_01Yep. I'm gonna take a written. Uh I don't think I'm gonna take Batia JT Post in maybe.
SPEAKER_03If you're a fan of the show, you know why we boo Daniel Berger. That's all I'm gonna say.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
unknownGood one.
SPEAKER_03I love our live, you know, like a lot of podcasts, you know, they've got all kinds of funny sound effects, but they do that post-production. We do it live.
SPEAKER_01Well, Ricky.
SPEAKER_03Because we're authentic.
SPEAKER_01Ricky Fowler.
SPEAKER_03Let's go, Ricky. He's my favorite golfer. Um, he hasn't had a spectacular year, but I always root for him, and there's always a chance. All right. It'd be awesome for him to win um a major. All right, let's take us out, Mason. See you guys next time. Don't forget to subscribe. Subscribe on YouTube, and wherever you get your podcast, we'll see you next Thursday. Thanks for listening.
