SPEAKER_03Welcome to the Argue Your Point podcast. Here are your hosts, Jeff Meetri and Mason Meetri.
SPEAKER_04All right, let's do it. My name is Jeff Meetri.
SPEAKER_02I'm Mason.
SPEAKER_01Hmm? What? Yep. What?
SPEAKER_04Nothing.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Alright. Chaos Straff, MBA. MBA Trades. Okay. All right.
SPEAKER_04MBA Trades and Free Agencies, Segment One.
SPEAKER_01Can't hold up my last on that one. All right.
SPEAKER_04Um you have to have something planned to say right on the edge.
SPEAKER_01No, I knew I was going to say it. I was just funny through your action. You're like, okay. Pointing at you. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04It's it's high production over here in our West Seneca studios.
SPEAKER_01Yep, it's our.
SPEAKER_04You know, we gotta get, you know, Josh Allen on here. He's a new dad.
SPEAKER_01No, first thing we have to do is get someone on here that's not your friend or family.
SPEAKER_04Well, Brian Dable. Friend and family is fine. You want to get Brian Dable? Maybe. Let's get Brian Dable on.
SPEAKER_01Joe Brady, JB.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I mean, we're a father-son podcast in Buffalo. How unique is that? Pretty unique.
SPEAKER_01I get 20 invitations per day. Like, no.
SPEAKER_04That would be cool. We get you know, I gotta do it, I gotta take a week off just to work on my own websites. Yeah. Other than spending my whole life on other people's websites, which is what I basically do.
SPEAKER_01I can help you that. All right, uh, okay. So we're gonna start off with NBA trade and free agency. Yeah, let's do it. Let's get it. Number one, the trade of the week. Back trade music of the year. The trade of the century.
SPEAKER_04Oh, I don't know about that.
SPEAKER_01I don't know why you have that, but the Giannis trade. They were the trade Giannis who?
SPEAKER_04What's his last name?
SPEAKER_01Really?
SPEAKER_04Do you know how to pronounce it? Antecumpo.
SPEAKER_01Alright, let me check.
SPEAKER_04Anta tekumpo. Yeah, that is definitely a name you'd have to practice multiple times before you get right. Alright, go ahead. Talk about the trade. Put a little black background music on it sounds a little more energetic.
SPEAKER_01Alright. Giannis Antecumpo. Now the traders of the Heat received freak. The Greek freak, Giannis Ante Kumpo, and Bobby Portis. Now the Bucks received Tyler Hero, Kiel Weir, James Jacet Jr. Kasperis Jacukanas. Number 13 picked in 2026 in Bay Draft. First round pick in 2031 and 2033. A pick swap in 2030, and a second round pick in 2033.
SPEAKER_04They go that far back.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah, they go. N FO's on the next one.
SPEAKER_04So that's why that's why Mikhail Bridges, he said you said he got it was three first rounds. They're all like super long far in the future, then? Yep.
SPEAKER_01So um right, so we're gonna uh who do you think won the straight?
SPEAKER_04Well uh well who do you think won the straight? I don't know if I can give you an honest evaluation of hold on, let me answer my qu let me answer your question. You ask me, I'm gonna answer. So I don't know if I can say who won the trade. Yeah, I mean obviously no one can until it's over. Well, that's debatable. But I know that Giannis has been declining. His you know, his superstar status, his elite level of basketball has really declined ever since he won the championship. He's they've had a couple good years, too, going, you know, the year after and two years after they won the championship championship, um, where they had good runs. Um, but really it's been um pretty pretty mediocrity, pretty dismal from Giannis, which um hurts me to say because he is one of my favorite players. We watched that documentary on him when we were on vacation in Florida, and we really got to know his whole backstory, where he came from, what he went through, what what is most important in his life, which is not basketball, that is family, and so he's he's really likable guy, and um I really you know root for him on whatever team he's on. Um, but as far as just you know judging him, basing him on his play, um, it's been declining. So he got a lot, you know, for him, because that's basketball, that's NBA trade for you. Um I don't know. I don't know who won this trade. I I I can only tell you what I know about Giannis. I don't really know about the other guys. Two first rounders, um a second rounder, one, two, three, four players. No, wait, wait. Number 13. So that's a first round pick. So that's three first rounders.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_04Three first rounds, a second round, four guys for Giannis, and and what do we know about Bobby Porras?
SPEAKER_01Is he he's a bit he's a little uh older, he's he's decent, he's a little bit older.
SPEAKER_04All right, uh let me tell you So who I'm gonna ask you now because you're who won the trade?
SPEAKER_01This is easy here. This is the Bucks. This is easy.
SPEAKER_04The Heat the Bucks won it?
SPEAKER_01Yep. The Heat got obviously great Giannis, he's great player in Biporis, but they basically gave up half the starting lineup. They basically gave up half the starting lineup, two bench players, their first round picks for in five years, and then they had a pick swap. But I think it was obviously the Bucs. Now Giannis is gonna leave a situation where you didn't have help and go to another situation where you won't have help. Okay. This doesn't make sense in my eyes.
SPEAKER_04Okay. I see what you're saying, but um, who is in Miami?
SPEAKER_01Miami.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um, besides other guys that got traded.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um, well, I know Bam Etabio. Obviously. No, Bam Metabio still plays.
SPEAKER_04No, I meant, you know, Tyler Hero. What do you mean Kalalware?
SPEAKER_01What do you say?
SPEAKER_04In the trade. I'm talking about the trade.
SPEAKER_01You're saying who left No, never mind.
SPEAKER_04Just tell me who is playing for Miami that um is a starting lineup for Miami that can support Giannis.
SPEAKER_01Um, I don't think I can figure out their starting lineup. They don't have it yet. Yeah. But it's obviously gonna be Bam. He's gonna be starting, and then they're gonna have Giannis. They're gonna have basically probably um they got Bobby Poros. That's probably three of the starting lineup. They don't have many other guys. Like they have they have Nicola Yovich. Nicola Yovich.
SPEAKER_05Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_01But it's really gonna be Giannis, Edabayo, Bobby Porters, and maybe maybe we'll put in Keshad Johnson in there.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but I might buy Etabayo.
SPEAKER_04Um Andrew Wiggins, is he still there?
SPEAKER_01I don't uh I think so.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that's a big trade. They um uh Milwaukee, Milwaukee got a lot for their franchise player. How much are they you know I don't know, if they turn around and they are successful, then nobody will care. But if they go through like a long rebuilding phase, Giannis won't be as good by then. Yeah, but I mean But what about like the merchandising and the fan base um for Giannis?
SPEAKER_01What do you mean?
SPEAKER_04Like the he's a draw, like he he fills seats. Um are people going to go to the Bucks games without Giannis there?
SPEAKER_01Maybe not. Alright, uh, we gotta talk about more trade. We got three more, two more trades to talk about. One's a bit uh smaller, one is actually huge. Alright, Julius Randle. Then this is a three-team trade.
SPEAKER_04Former Nick.
SPEAKER_01Yep. It's actually crazy. So I saw uh a thing where so um the what's it called? The Wolves traded cat away for Julius Randle and some other picks, okay? And then after that, after that uh pick, and a couple years later, they took Julius Randle. They traded Julius Randle for like I can't remember the pick, but they got Julius Randle and traded him away from losing picks. So instead of having a higher pick, like or lower pick like 28 or something, they trade him away. They basically lost traffic from that trade. He went down in value. So on the trade was the Nets received Julius Randle from the Wolves, number 28 pick in the 2026 MB draft. The Wolves received Mo Gayu Gouye from the Bulls, and number 33 pick in the 2023 26 MB draft. The Bulls received Nick Clayton from the Nets. That was the trade right there. Um Julius Randall, he was okay. I had his um jersey.
SPEAKER_03Yep.
SPEAKER_01But at that point of um they lost value from that. It was a bad trade. Chao number one overall pick, trade him away, got Julius Randle, had him for three years, three or four years, and then trade him away an opposite value. That's what I'm trying to say.
SPEAKER_04Oh, I see what you're saying. It all comes full circle and bad decisions. Alright. But um nobody cares about the Nuts. Nobody. Not even people in Brooklyn care about the Nuts. They care about the Knicks. There's like no Knicks, there's no Nuts fans.
SPEAKER_01Even um I don't know where you're talking about now.
SPEAKER_04Brooklyn Nuts.
SPEAKER_01Talking about their fan base?
SPEAKER_04We're talking about the trade here, not the that's where Julius Randle's going.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_04Brooklyn. I'm saying nobody cares about the Brooklyn Nuts. Not even uh um, who's that rap? Jay-Z. Not even Jay-Z cares about the Brooklyn Nuts. He used to own them, and then he's like, I don't want to be an owner. He sold his ownership to become a player agent. Isn't that weird?
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Like, why is Jay-Z becoming a bigger one? Alright, we're not talking about JP now. Okay, you're gonna be off topic here. But yeah, Julius Randle in um Brooklyn. Um nobody nobody's gonna care about him, nobody's gonna watch him until he gets traded out of Brooklyn. Then we'll pay attention again.
SPEAKER_01Now, the number three trade, the biggest trade of the day, Lamello Ball.
SPEAKER_04Oh gosh. Don't even get me stuck.
SPEAKER_01The Horner's training Lamello Ball and Josh Green to the Timberwolves in exchange for not three, unprotected 2020, 2033 first round pick, three second round picks, 29, 32, and 33. And first round pick swapped in 28, 29, 2030. It sounds like a lot.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it is. You know what?
SPEAKER_01You know what pick pick swaps are right?
SPEAKER_04Yeah. They say they swapped the swap in three years in a row? That is so weird. First round pick swaps. They're between 30.
SPEAKER_01They're basically betting on the other team. That's what it is.
SPEAKER_04That is weird. But ball is 24.
SPEAKER_01It has one of those healthy seasons, 20.1 points, 7.1 says 4.8 rebounds, and 36.8% from three across 72 games.
SPEAKER_04Okay, hold on. That that was ball? That was Lamello Ball. Coming off the healthy season, averaging 20 points. I know you just read this. I'm just sort of reading it again out loud to you know really put in my brain. 20 averaging 20 points a game. That's not bad. 20.1, that's that's good. Seven assists, 4.8 rebounds. And you know it's crazy. I I actually understand basketball now. You know what helped me understand that these stats are good? Betting on uh Jalen Brunson and betting on the next. It does help you learn like what an average is and what's good and what's like below average and what's not good. And it also helps you uh understand role players where like you might accept expect you know two rebounds out of this guy and maybe 13 out of the other guy, you know? It's like everyone's got their own role, but yeah, betting helps you learn about basketball sports, all right.
SPEAKER_01All right, so yeah. Yeah, I was what I was talking about. It's uh three ball brothers a la mellow ball, Lonzo Ball, and the Angelo ball.
SPEAKER_04And what's the dad's name?
SPEAKER_01Lonzo ball.
SPEAKER_04Dad is Lonzo?
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_04Um he famously he was on uh um uh the angelo ball.
SPEAKER_01He was on a radio what the Angelo Ball never played the NBA game. He's a rapper now. Lonzo ball plays for the Cleveland 4.6 points, and then obviously um the most successful of them is Lamello Ball.
SPEAKER_04So okay, so yeah, Lamello ball is pretty good. I mean, 20 points a game. Lamello ball can play ball. Well, his dad his dad was you know just completely um um dictating their careers and really like hyping them up, trying to um launch a shoeline that went nowhere. It's extremely hard to just launch a shoeline to be successful. You have to have multiple backings, multiple people, you know what I mean? And he was trying to do with pop-ups and stuff. Yeah. And one time uh he was on the show, I can't uh, what's that guy's name? Uh a famous uh national sports broadcaster guy. Um, and he had a a woman that is on the show as well, and she's like, Oh, how are your sales doing? And he's like, Stay in your lane. Stay in your lane. And then that became like a thing, like telling people, like when they're you know, picking their nose, picking, um, not picking their nose, when they're putting their uh business where it shouldn't belong. Like, yo, Mason, stay in your lane. All right why you why you ask me about my parking ticket situation? Stay in your lane. You know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_04What you can just get a phone call? No. Mr. Poplar over here?
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_04All right, next. Come on, we got a transition.
SPEAKER_01Let's You're the one who's making this way longer. Okay, you're not doing anything toward the basketball at all.
SPEAKER_04Come on, put the phone down. Let's you're not doing anything here. What do you mean I'm not doing anything? I'm giving you a few more.
SPEAKER_01You're sidetracking on this right now.
SPEAKER_04But it's still related to basketball. Did we talk about yeah, we talked about shoes? We didn't we haven't talked since the uh final shoes, the parade.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, all right. Um NBA frequency. We're gonna list some of the unrestricted free agents here. I already did. You didn't hear me. I already did that. That made the noise a long time ago. Busy talking about shoes. So the top unrestricted free agents, LeBron James, Ayo, the shumu, uh Rui, Hashimura, John Collins, Mitchell Robinson, Quentin Grimes, uh Kobe White, CJ McCollum, and then Louis go down, but Landry Shamet, Mitchell Robinson, and then you got some of those guys there. I'm gonna go so restricted free agents are Jalen Duran, Walker Kessler, Peyton, Peyton Wayton, Terry Eason, Benedict, Benedict Um, Mark Williams, the unrestricted the restricted free agents now.
SPEAKER_04Well, okay, let me ask you a question on the unrestricted. Yep. Are those in order of are those in any particular order?
SPEAKER_01I think they're in order of like best or worst.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, okay. So LeBron James should be like the most um biggest name. Might be the money uh then you got Mitchell Robinson, just five down there. He's probably gonna go to another team and get um paid.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but yeah. See here.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, restricted. You don't need to mention restricted.
SPEAKER_01That just means they're gonna be saying might be going to the neck or the kings.
SPEAKER_04Um player options, Trey Young, James Harden. Oh, it means they can do whatever they want. James Harden.
SPEAKER_01Trey Young, yeah.
SPEAKER_04So uh look up how much money James Harden has made.
SPEAKER_01No, it's not. Okay. I think Trey Young, I'm pretty sure he accepted his player option, so I Trey Man Green.
SPEAKER_04A lot of these guys are uh Trayman Green, uh Alvarado is. Alvarado? He's not he's not old.
SPEAKER_01He I hope he stays. He's a Brooklyn native. So I think he's gonna come back.
SPEAKER_04He's a cool dude.
SPEAKER_01I know. I'm actually updating. I got my uh insider here. I got my MBA, I got my MBA uh insider. What's that? My guy.
SPEAKER_03Who?
SPEAKER_01It's just my guy. You can't know. Okay, all right. You can't know my guy. It's a contract.
SPEAKER_04All right. What do we got next on the rundown, Mason?
SPEAKER_01Coaches.
SPEAKER_04Coaches, coaches.
SPEAKER_01Coaches, then um Knicks, then MBA, then a lot of other stuff. Okay. So I'm just gonna go real quick on all the coaches. Chicago Bulls hired former Trailbroth.
SPEAKER_04Hold on. Can you do background music while you're doing this?
SPEAKER_01Why are you even in the podcast?
SPEAKER_04Why why are you we need a little more up? We have to find some new background music for. But this will work. This will work. Go ahead. Do the do the coaches, Mason. Go for it.
SPEAKER_01Right. Chicago Bulls hired former Trailbrazers interim head coach, Diego Splitter, to replace Billy Donovan. Mavericks hired former Michigan Wolverines head coach Dusty May after parting away with Jason Kidd. Milwaukee Bucks hired Taylor Jengen after Doc Rivers stepped down. The Pelicans hired former Orlando Magic coach Jamal Mosley to replace Willie Green. The Magic hired Sean Sweeney as their next coach. The Port and Trailbridge hired Micah Nori to take over the helm. That's the coaches.
SPEAKER_04Nice. Good job with that. Um what's next on the Washington Windsor?
SPEAKER_01Now we're gonna go over the top five real quick. So, number one, AJ Diabanta from BYU. Now, this one's the top five of what? NBA draft.
SPEAKER_04Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_01So this is one that was a little odd here. Now, Darren Peterson was a guy who wanted to go to Washington. So that begs a question here.
SPEAKER_04What question does that beg, Mason?
SPEAKER_01No, that begged the question. It's it's such a good question. That it um that you need its own phone.
SPEAKER_0060 seconds on the Mason's ready, let it run the playoffs, go wait, please, love it.
SPEAKER_04Love it, great.
SPEAKER_01So I had to squeeze in a game here. Now the game, uh we already did this game before, but I think it would be fun. Mason's minute. It'll be a 60-second rant on um whether you take pure athletic, uh player that's better or a player that's heart. So it'll be a rant on talent or heart or talent. All right, uh, I have a one-minute timer here.
SPEAKER_04Some of these college kids? Yep. How do you know if they have any heart or talent at this point?
SPEAKER_01Well, I know. So don't don't question me. Okay. So how it works is I will give a I will give a sport take, a rant for 60 seconds. You can either um you can either defend it or you can make another take. You could say, no, that's not true. So uh we were just before, but um minute on the clock.
SPEAKER_04Okay. Um I'm not really sure what's gonna happen here, but I'm eager and I'm ready to go.
SPEAKER_01Right. So um you know what happens here.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_01Alright.
SPEAKER_03So what's your first question?
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01So that's not a question. It's a minute. Okay. I think right here that the um I think that you rather have a player that has heart in the game, heart in the team, heart in the city.
SPEAKER_04Oh, just in general. Okay, I got you.
SPEAKER_01Or a player that has athleticism. I think you rather take a player that has heart, but mostly because they're gonna fight for the team. Like in the Olympics, you you're more likely to play harder and play faster and play better for your home country than your team that you didn't even that you got traded there, you didn't even want to go.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_01Okay. So that's how I that's my pick right there. How much time's on the clock?
SPEAKER_0315.
SPEAKER_0115 seconds. Okay, I actually think that heart, heart over talent, okay? That's my I'm gonna mic drop it.
SPEAKER_03Alright, works for me.
SPEAKER_01Alright.
SPEAKER_03Okay, what do we got next?
SPEAKER_01No, you are you gonna so do you are you gonna um agree with that take?
SPEAKER_04Or are you gonna uh Okay, so it's it's heart over talent. Talent? Um you know when when you pose this question, I immediately just think of Jalen Brunson. But here's the thing about him He's he's g he's all heart. But obviously he's he's talented. He's one of the most talented basketball players in the world. Um I know. Yeah. Without a doubt, he's not the tallest. Yeah. Um He's not the biggest. He doesn't um you know push people around. He just goes around people. Um, so he's all heart. Yeah, so it's a tough question. Like if you're just talking about it one single individual people, or you want like a whole team of you know, just people with all heart and over talent, uh I would say you need a little mixture of both, you know, because you could deal with some guys that um because here's the thing when you're on a team, everyone's different, everyone comes from a different background, everyone's got a different um upbringing and a different personality. So everyone's different. You just kind of gotta get everyone to be on the same page as far as is goals and you know, work ethic and accomplishments. So um, you know, I'm gonna I'm gonna go with talent on this. So I'm just gonna go with talent over heart.
SPEAKER_01All right. Uh I would have done uh different, I would have done Mason's mic drop, but I decided to uh not all right.
SPEAKER_04Number two, or do we have a number two?
SPEAKER_01We do have a number, um, what do you mean, number two?
SPEAKER_04Like another question?
SPEAKER_01No. That was just a game I thought disagree on. I even uh all right. Now we're gonna talk about the Knicks here. They made a lot of moves.
SPEAKER_04Go New York, go New York, go.
SPEAKER_01They made a lot of moves. I didn't understand them, so I had to dumb it down for myself for everyone. Now, let me tell you every move they made. It was really confusing. Like on the website it says, we picked this guy, then it says two Phoenix, we picked this guy to um Mavericks. Like it's weird. All right, here's every move we made. Trade number one. We sent number 24 to the Lakers. The Lakers receive Cameron Carr selected number 24, next received number 25 in cash.
SPEAKER_04Lula trade two. Straight up cash over there.
SPEAKER_01Use number 25 and Sergio de La Ria. Then immediately trade him to Dallas. Dallas received Sergio de La Ria, Knicks received number 30, co-op Pete, and two feature second round picks. Number three, they immediately traded Co-op Pete to Phoenix. The Suns got Co-op Pete, Knicks received three more second round picks in cash. Right. So right now they have five X second picks. No, trade number four is in second round. Trade number 31 and 55 to Houston. The Rockets got 31-55. Knicks got trade 39-53 plus the Kings 2029 second round pick. Now here are the players the Knicks actually kept. Jack Kale, guard from Germany, slash Alba Berlin, number 47, Taylor Nickel. Ford Vanderbolt. So we got number, so we got guard, Jack Kale, and a forward, Taylor Nickel. Now here now we also drafted Ugunna on a sale. We drafted him, but trade himself the piston for cash. Now here's what we got. Here's a final. Yeah. You're gonna you're gonna you're gonna use that pick?
SPEAKER_03You can use that pick.
SPEAKER_01Alright, final haul. We got Jack K.O. and Tyler Nickel. We added six future second round picks in cash. We did not keep in cash. What are they doing? Cameron Carr? Serior DeLaria, Co-op Pete, and Ugunna, I'll say yo. It should be like you're gonna draft me. I'd be in a couple.
SPEAKER_04I wonder what the cash is in the cookets cash.
SPEAKER_01Do they put it for like um what? Free agency, my guess.
SPEAKER_04Oh, for more they don't they don't have a pizza party or no.
SPEAKER_01A cash team can send trade. Generally used for enthusiasm for buying a sale or selling players or draft picks. Oh, okay. Allows team to cover a player's remaining contract per or per purchase a draft spot.
SPEAKER_04So you've got like a hundred grand, they're like, alright. And then you can use that for another one where like all right, I'll trade you this plus a hundred grand. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It is to prevent to prevent wealthy owner from buying championship of superstars. So it's so there's a limit.
SPEAKER_04Oh okay.
SPEAKER_01There's only a few million dollars in total cat they can trade.
SPEAKER_04Oh, a few million.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, for a year. That's like for every year. It's like only do that. Okay. But I don't think I don't know.
SPEAKER_04So um So we'll see if Jack Kale, K if that's how you pronounce it Kale, he's from Germany. Jack Kale? Did he play for Germany? Is he or is he German?
SPEAKER_01He played for Germany. Like he played for the Germany national team.
SPEAKER_04Oh, okay. He must also play on a regular team in there, too.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_04What's his name? Jack Hale? K-A-Y-I-L.
SPEAKER_01Germany guard J K-A-Y-A-L I L. Yeah, it says right here. Jack Hale. Uh he's played for Germany. Drafted 39th overall pick. And even this is right here. Alright. He was actually the um under 22 player of the year.
SPEAKER_04So it says here, I don't know if you read this already. The Knicks came away with two inexpensive rookies, six additional second round picks. That's a lot. And extra financial flexibility, all while avoiding a first um a first a guaranteed first round contract. So it sounds like They just do that for cap.
SPEAKER_01Because they have a older roster. They don't want to have younger players. Like they don't want to have they don't want to have a ton of like they have two rookies, no.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. But um, but not but they it sounds like financially they try to not draft in the first round because of the um guaranteed contract you have to pay them.
SPEAKER_01And I don't know what that is, but it's like you know, if all you have is five years contract.
SPEAKER_04That's usually pretty small.
SPEAKER_01It's like five million or something. All right. Um now we're talking about NHL. NHL. We're talking about it now. We have to change the subject.
SPEAKER_04All right.
SPEAKER_01So now we're gonna stop talking.
SPEAKER_04Transition to NHL. Now, this is a little more my wheelhouse.
SPEAKER_01Yep, also mine too. Um, do you want to start off with the first trade?
SPEAKER_04First trade is um Brady Tachuk moving out of Canada, a country that they already hate the Chuck. They didn't want him in any Canadian team. They kind of thought he was just like some trader in an Ottawa jersey. Trust me, I've listened to some of the the TSN channels in Montreal specifically, and when they've got an Audio Ottawa beat reporter calling in, um, they can't stand the the Chuck brothers, um, especially, you know, especially after what happened in in USA and how um the uh how they won the gold and then continue to shove it down the Canadians' throats. But um it was just like that's that's our Canadian that's our auto player, you know, doing this to us. It was torture. Um, I guarantee you they wanted him out of Canada.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Um the fans did a lot of the fans were like, he's my favorite player, but I don't know if I should trail for him anymore. Um, the Canadian fans. Yeah. So yeah, that was a huge and he's going to the same team as his brother. So um they're gonna be a powerhouse.
SPEAKER_01Florida's gonna win to Stanley Cup.
SPEAKER_04Both the Chuck brothers, they they they're both gritty, they're both offensively talented, both super good.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they're that's can't wait to play a floor doll on A1227.
SPEAKER_04That's a super team. Can't wait to play with someone. Well, right now on paper, they're definitely better than Sabres. But the Sabres have more to do.
SPEAKER_01If that they have more heart.
SPEAKER_04Well, we'll get to the Sabres in a minute.
SPEAKER_01All right, so uh, did you see what they acquired? Alright, never mind. Uh I'll do it then.
SPEAKER_04Okay, go ahead.
SPEAKER_01The Florida Panthers acquired Brady Kachuk. The thing here is acquired 26th first round pick, number nine overall. 26th first round pick from Tampa Bay. I don't know which one that is.
SPEAKER_05Okay.
SPEAKER_0127th second round pick and 2029 first round pick, top ten protect protected.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Now I did not look it up. So I don't know what top ten means. I'm gonna guess it's like you don't know what top ten means? I don't know what top ten protected means.
SPEAKER_04It means if it's um okay, so if the Florida Panthers end up um in 2029 coming in dead last, and that pick is nine is one through nine, then um Ottawa would have to wait till 2030 to get that first round pick. Okay. And in Florida would be able to keep it.
SPEAKER_01Okay. All right. Um contract notes. Kachuk has two years remaining in his contract, cap hit was eight point two million.
SPEAKER_04Wow, that's a steal. You get him for two years at 8.20. Um, well, I mean, it's not a steal. I mean, that's manageable.
SPEAKER_01I feel like four years that'd be a steal.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that would be even better. I mean, I I shouldn't say this is a steal because they gave up a hefty price to to acquire him. Um, so uh so I take it back that's a steal. It's it's a good uh you know AAV to to deal with, uh, even though they've got you know pretty bloated roster. But um I'm just thinking in uh in Buffalo and a guy like him for 8.2, I'd be great. But uh yeah, yeah, you gotta give up what three first round picks in a second. That's that's a ton.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_04They didn't give up any uh players though in the uh trade.
SPEAKER_01Yep. All right.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_01Now we're talking about Sabres Chicago trade. Now they to Buffalo. This is to Buffalo. Uh no. This is to Chicago, technically. That would be from Buffalo.
SPEAKER_04You're talking about the Bowen Byram trade?
SPEAKER_01Yes, oh yeah, never mind. Take that back. This is what they get, yeah. Sabres get number four pick in 2026, Angel draft, number 45 pick, 23 draft, and defenseman Louis Cravy. Louis Louis Cravier.
SPEAKER_04I'm not exactly.
SPEAKER_01Let me uh say this again.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_01Buffalo got the number four, number 45 pick in the NHL draft, and they gave up nothing.
SPEAKER_03Defensive.
SPEAKER_01They gave up absolutely nothing.
SPEAKER_03What do you mean?
SPEAKER_01They gave up players. Yeah, they gave up that, but at that point, it's just like crazy. Um it's crazy. They robbed them.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Well, especially even worse than the cat trade.
SPEAKER_04You know, getting the fourth overall and the 45th.
SPEAKER_01A top five pick.
SPEAKER_04Um, and Louis Crevier was a top four defenseman in Chicago, averaging over 17 minutes um of ice time. I'm looking at stats right now. Yeah, I'm not. This is just stuff that I read before. He's got a hundred mile an hour slap shot, the fourth fastest in the NHL, hardest. Um, you know, he's he plays, he's a top four defenseman in the NHL.
SPEAKER_01No, he is 25 years old. He's 6'8 in 2025, 26 season, 78 games played, 7 goals, 18, 18 assists, and 25 penalties, I think, or points.
SPEAKER_04Uh so you said 18 and what?
SPEAKER_01What? 18 assists and 25 points.
SPEAKER_04Okay, yeah, and nine goals.
SPEAKER_01But that doesn't, that doesn't seven goals.
SPEAKER_04Seven goals, yeah. So uh yeah, points is is goals and assists.
SPEAKER_01No, he only played, he's only played, I'm gonna go with two seasons. Looks like he's been AHL.
SPEAKER_04So some of the the negatives you could look at him and is his plus minus.
SPEAKER_01His plus minus is negative two, and then his career negative twenty-four.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so he was negative two on a horrible team. That's really good. Yeah. Um, I thought it was worse than that. Maybe I was looking at uh well, yeah. So his his career isn't minus 24. Um he played two years on Chicago. Um, so yeah, that a lot of times that is just a result of the team that you were on. I can I kind of think that's what it is for him. So I'm I'm excited for him to slide him in. So that you know, so we've got I I think we've got a decent the the defense kind of uh situated. Um with that guy slide sliding in, he's basically it sounds like he's a bowen by him replacement, way cheaper. I don't know if you know Bowen Byron wants to be number one. Um, and that's the opportunity he's gonna get in Buffalo.
SPEAKER_01I like I like Bowen Byron.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, Buffalo gave he he would take he would make a few mistakes. Um it wasn't he wasn't steady.
SPEAKER_01Remember, we trade him for uh we trade him in the first four games. He had four goals in the first four games, and he yeah, he had like a gray looked super good like an all-star, then he kind of didn't do as good.
SPEAKER_04All right, yeah. So um I'm I'm excited. I I like I said in the car ride earlier today.
SPEAKER_01We gave it two guys with expiring projects.
SPEAKER_04We have four overall with that pick, okay. I heard that the first three might go forward, and then we would get the number one defenseman. I am not interested in drafting the number one overall defenseman. I don't, you know, I mean, yeah, if it's Kel McCarr, if if you can look at a crystal ball and say this guy's the next Kel McCarr, or you know, is the next Kel McCarr. Then draft him. Then yeah.
SPEAKER_01Two shutdown defensemen, that would be great.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, but um I don't know. I would rather take that trade. Go get go get that uh forward, that left-handed, the right shot forward from Toronto.
SPEAKER_01Matthews?
SPEAKER_04No. I would love Matthews.
SPEAKER_01I love Australia Matthews.
SPEAKER_04Um uh Niles, what's his name? Let me look it up now. Matthew Niles. Hold on, let me see here. Um, go ahead, keep keep you can keep talking.
SPEAKER_01Uh oh yeah, okay. So um I mean to I don't know. Okay, um we're talking about cut tuck here. No, there is a tuck trade. Last night or yesterday at 3 46 p.m. Can you play the boom? The boo music.
SPEAKER_04Why are we booing? Oh, because it's sad. I don't I don't like the trade. Should be it should be um wah wah. Tuck was traded.
SPEAKER_01Alright, so the trade was in the Washington Capitals and in the Buffalo Sabres. The Capitals receive Alex Tuck. And with that, he they immediately signed him to an eight-year, $84 million contract. And then the Sabres got the Sabres got 2026 through Rumpick and David Camp, which is obviously way better than losing the free agency. Okay.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's true.
SPEAKER_01So it's obviously not.
SPEAKER_04Losing the free agency, but you know, okay, so here's the thing. He was the Sabres offered him almost nine, is what I heard. Let's just say it's nine, okay. That's one and a half million less than what he got, and that's $12 million over the course of um eight years. So, you know, leaving $12 million on the table, you're gonna walk away from $12 million. Um, I don't know. Maybe you, you know, maybe at you're at the point of your life and you've got, you know, amassed a lot of money, and um you've got everything in order for your future and your kids' future and your grandkids' future and stuff like that. Um, and you're just you just want to win and play for your home team. Um, what do you mean? He's well he's from Tucs from Syracuse.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I thought you talked about Washington. I thought he said he was from Washington.
SPEAKER_04No. So he, you know, a lot of people are painting this like like Paul Hamilton, P. Ham, is it's just about the money. It was nothing else. You know, it's like uh, yeah, I don't know. Maybe it's just you know, he wants to get paid what he's worth. And yeah, that comes back to money. Uh maybe it's about principle, yeah, that that comes back to money. But um if he is getting offers for 10.5 million, you know, and his agents telling you, I got Washington on the line, they're gonna pay you 10.5, I've got uh LA on the line, they're gonna pay you 10.5, I've got Columbus, they're gonna pay you 10.5. Then you know you know what? You're worth 10.5. And I'd say, I would say Buffalo. Um I'm I'm gonna get paid 10.5. You know, you you gotta at least come close to that. Get bring it up to 10 million, bring it up to 9.5 or something. Don't get close to 9 million and tell me that um that you know I'm walking away because I don't think he's worth 10.5 million. Who cares if he's getting overpaid? Do you want the guy? Do you think he's still gonna be productive? You know, and that 10.5 million in five years is gonna look really small. Because right now, Con McDavid only gets paid 12 and a half million.
SPEAKER_01All right, we got it, we got it.
SPEAKER_04That's really small. Hold on. I'm in I'm in the right.
SPEAKER_01I got we gotta move on.
SPEAKER_04No, we don't have to move on.
SPEAKER_01You see the time?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, what what's the time?
SPEAKER_0139. So what? We have a lot more stuff to do.
SPEAKER_04Well, just listen. Okay, what is your thought on the talk trade? Because if they if they don't replace him with another veteran leader and we just go young, then it's then it's not gonna work for me.
SPEAKER_01Well, we already have that guy we traded for, forgot his name. From uh I think it was The Bowen Byron trade? No, no, I'm not talking about that dead. Talking about we trade for this season. Like the last season we did on the trade deadline. I don't know who it was, like Winnipeg or something.
SPEAKER_04Oh, those guys, those guys are all those guys are all rentals.
SPEAKER_01No, they're not rentals. I think they're veteran.
SPEAKER_04Rental players. They didn't have it, they didn't have contracts. We would have to re-sign them. They're free agents. Really? Yeah. Um those guys, uh, I can't even think of the three names. Well, the one guy was Stanley, Logan Stanley.
SPEAKER_02Luke Shan.
SPEAKER_04Luke Shan. Yeah, you're right. He has a big time veteran. You maybe he could fill that role. I don't know. It did he didn't really seem um all that interested in in that kind of a role based on you know just his interviews and stuff and comments. I could be wrong. Um, but he's definitely in the twilight of his career. Um Luke Shun. Okay. That's my that's my take on talking. I could see both sides of it. I could see Buffalo's side for saying, no, um, you're not worth 10 and a half. We're not paying you ten and a half. Um good luck, Yarmo. That's what he said. Um, but I also see a part of it just pay the guy ten and a half million dollars to keep him here and solidify this core and let's run it back next year. Um, now this kind of shifts things. Maybe, maybe, you know, maybe Yarmo um has an outer plan and he's going to execute it, and it's gonna be an awesome season, and I hope it is. And um, you know, there's a lot there's a lot more left to do for him to do. Uh the draft is tomorrow.
SPEAKER_01Tomorrow, yeah. Okay.
SPEAKER_04Um let's just all right, all right. Let's move on.
SPEAKER_0130 minutes.
SPEAKER_04What am I gonna do with my tuck jersey?
SPEAKER_01Here's the rag. What?
SPEAKER_04So we uh um we have all right okay, we're going with headlines. So so that whole argument was muted?
SPEAKER_05Yep.
SPEAKER_04Okay, headlines. The Buffalo Bills opened the new high mark stadium ahead of the 2026 seasons. Uh, Mason, have you seen any images?
SPEAKER_01Nope. Actually, yeah, I saw a couple.
SPEAKER_04What'd you think?
SPEAKER_01Epic.
SPEAKER_04Epic?
SPEAKER_01Epic.
SPEAKER_04Looks awesome. Those seats look amazing. I can't wait to go in there. I hope they have some sort of um a tour, you know, open to the public that we can just go and walk around. They've got all those um sensory rooms and stuff that I've seen. I guess like what did you say, the most in the the world or something?
SPEAKER_02Oh, I don't think so.
SPEAKER_04The sensory rooms, I hold on. Can you uh you're not paying attention? What do you think about the Buffalo Bills stadium?
SPEAKER_01I think it's cool. I think it's a cool big stadium.
SPEAKER_04That's it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think it's the best stadium in the MFL right now. Outdoor stadium. And I think it's cool.
SPEAKER_04And what do you think about the big buffaloes?
SPEAKER_01The Buffalo, the the one buffalo? It's the only one of them. Yeah, the only one right now. I think they're I think they're cool. I think they'd be a cool stadium. Be fun to go into.
SPEAKER_04Alright, read the next headline.
SPEAKER_01The NFO won't host supplemental draft making tech-to-tech quarterback Brendan Thorby ineligible in 2026.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_01So um, what are your thoughts on that? Declining it.
SPEAKER_04Um that Brendan Soresby is toxic and nobody wants to be around him, and the league is like, uh, uh-uh. We you're you you stand for destroying the integrity of the game. They take they take gambling seriously in the NFL, regardless of their partnerships and the money that they make and the advertising they get from the gambling sites. When someone uh you know, we've talked about that before. When someone gambles, they get off the whole, they spend for a whole year. What uh Calvin Ridley. Ridley? Was he was he in Atlanta?
SPEAKER_01Uh yeah. Yeah, spending for a whole year.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, right. So it's not surprising. Do you want
SPEAKER_01read what um the league said in response to you know not having you report a deadline to apply for the twenty twenty six and fall supplemental draft of june twenty second under a collective bargaining agreement the league retained sole discretion to determine what is appropriate to conduct a supplemental draft in any given year. The league has not conducted such draft for several years and prior to submission league had no plans due this year. As so no other players saw entry. Your petition filed three business days before the deadline without any supporting information documentation and only after abandoning your recent litigation efforts to avoid NCAA sanctions did not provide a basis for the to alter those plans. The issues presented by petitions are too significant and too closely tied to the league's core integrity interest to permit a meaningful review with a timeline percentage.
SPEAKER_04Yeah there you go I mean they're like you gave us three days and you are tied closely to the league's core integrity interests and they don't want him uh affecting that. Yeah or you don't want they read about PJ um so what do you think's gonna happen with Sorsby's not gonna join the FL ever?
SPEAKER_01No I mean if he's um if they don't want him to supplement a draft they're not gonna let him in the FL.
SPEAKER_04They have to I think no they can they can uh deny I don't think so let me check you read the next part the PGA tour announced its biggest announcement in the history of the league foreman.
SPEAKER_01Yes I was there yes NFL can block or deny players entry into the league keep border from both annual spring draft supplementary draft due to auto disciplinary issues gambling violations or failure to meet the CBA's minimum eligibility rules for the regular draft?
SPEAKER_04So they can ban him from that one too in 27 huh? Alright yeah he's got long road ahead of him uh he made some poor choices when he was younger thinking probably he was invincible and you know would get a slap on the wrist but mm-mm can't go back on TWA either nope he can maybe go to Canada UFL CFL or UFL maybe I don't know so the PG Tour has now got a two-tier system well in 28 it's gonna be awesome there's gonna be a championship series and a challenger series okay the championship series has got purses of like around 20 million and the challenger series um is a little bit less it's like it's like the challenger like the Corn Fairy tour? Yep exactly it is it's just like it yeah that's that's the perfect way to think about it. Um so the Challenger series will run parallel with promotions in relegations. Tiger Woods chaired the committee that crafted the fan focused blueprint approved by tour boards featuring match play playoffs at Iconic venues no more sponsor exemptions which everybody complains about no more no cuts which is my what do you say sponsor exemptions what does I mean if you win the PGH you get oh no that no sponsor exemption is um oh if you're like a traveler's um if you're being sponsored by travelers and you get automatically okay you're right it's just you're you have a sp a sponsor there's tons of sponsors at every event and there's like four slots and they always will let like popular golfers like Jordan Speith Ricky Fowler in even though they didn't earn it. Oh yeah that's weird yeah even though they they don't have the the points to get there they'll just let them in as a sponsor exemption.
SPEAKER_05That's weird.
SPEAKER_04Yeah but now those are all gone those are gone people um you know like Ricky Fowler got a ton and those two specifically and Jordan Speith got a ton of sponsors exemptions over the past three years. Fans like to see them but it's different now now we got two it's two competing uh well not competing two levels and once you're on the championship series you can't go to the challenger series. Oh you can't go back you can't go back and forth no um so I'm sorry about hitting that very so the two series tournament starts in 2028 um okay let's see there's 23 to 24 events on the championship series which includes all the majors in the players the writer cup present cup 10 championship series events confirmed but the rest confirmed coming in in in earlier but we've got events in Boston Denver New York Philly San Francisco Seattle and Washington DC um 20 million dollar purses I already mentioned that it's gonna be 120 person field so that's a lot it's less actually normally it's 154 or 140 so this so it's it's smaller fields um no alternate list no sponsor exemptions match play for the to decide who's the tour champion so that's cool um challenger series will have four million dollar purses 20 events um yeah says hosted a familiar pj tour venues championship series players not eligible for challenger series i already mentioned that um there will be a last chance series featuring four to six events played in the fall where a limited number of spots on the PJ tour championship series for the following season will be available as players look to improve or retain status that is cool so that's um that makes PJ fall way more uh fun to watch you know because now it's just like fall is when Justin Thomas plays these events where um no one else ranked highly ranked as playing and then he gets up a bunch of points and that's how he gets into the facts and and and improves his his world ranking but um I'm excited for that it's that's it's a sweeping change I think that the the sport needed it and I'm looking forward to it. Yeah all right all right now live action magic school bus movie is in the worst with Elizabeth Banks playing as Miss Fizzle I don't understand how this has anything new with sports yeah it doesn't I just threw it in there have you ever seen Magic School bus? I have many times I'm now very annoyed now you may you made me annoyed all right and a new Blair Witch movie is in the works for a release of 2027 Lionsgate featured fresh Blair Witch project installment hitting theaters September 27. This movie Mason made over 300 million dollars on like a $20,000 budget or something.
SPEAKER_01So uh we can talk about every movie now or we're doing movie podcast so yeah okay all right all right we're talking about um NFL okay maybe I'll just mute you for this one all right Falcons China Cowpits agreed to a three year $54 million deal with $36 million guaranteed on Tuesday which makes them third highest paid tight end in the NFL besides Arizona Cardinal star try Trey McBride 19 million and 49ers standout George Kittle 19.1 million now we're talking about IUK 49ers are reportedly eager to move on for Brandon Iuk it would likely accept a low cost let me explain the other things okay they are literally trying to give him away for a seventh round pick and no one wants him because they don't want to take on this $28.1 million dollar cap hit or whatever it was they don't want to release him because that's gonna be dead cap. Right they're kind of stuck with him so they he wants to join it looks like he wants to join commanders but they either have two options here three they're they're gonna keep him trade him away for like a seventh round pick might add like a fifth round pick Jeff so I can get rid of them or they're gonna cut him I mean I w Can't they um can't they trade him and retain some of his salary? I don't think I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_04If they do that that that can help things out maybe we should call um Jim and say hey you ever think about retaining some of his salary I don't know okay does kind of sound like they're stuck.
SPEAKER_01Yeah alright um also Jaguar the Titan Brandon Strange have agreed to turn a three year extension worth up to 48 million including 25 million guaranteed. Also I just want to note here the uh NHL analysts named the best landing spot for um the gold medal goalie conner hellabuck is the Buffalo Sabres.
SPEAKER_04So trade brewing I don't know what'd you what did you say?
SPEAKER_01I said the NHL analyst I was adding this the NHL analyst says that the best landing spots I don't know the best landing spot for Connor Hellebuck is Buffalo Sabres. Oh okay all right all right now we're gonna go what do you think about Connor Hallebeck in Buffalo I like it a lot I think it'd be really good for us we need a good solid goalie and eat a good solid goalie yeah but I heard he didn't do good at all in the playoffs he wasn't in the playoffs he was this year when Pick was like dead last oh yeah you're right they didn't mix playoffs maybe it was he didn't do good in the regular season maybe it was last playoffs or something he was eliminated they had 35 32 and 12 yeah they weren't even yeah you're right they didn't mix playoffs all right uh now we're gonna do our predictions all right we are not allowed to look even though the uh the um tournament has started we're not allowed to look at the live well I know standing we are not allowed to if you draft him I will cut you out okay I'm not looking I just know what I looked at from watching the tournament today that's fine all right uh you go number one overall all right I see you have it now split into thirds which oh wait can I tell you the result from last week uh yeah go ahead all right won at 45 to one now let me tell you yours first or mine I my favorite Rory McEyed 32nd in plus six okay then my midfielder Sam Burns second place third three under yeah he did really good then my uh long shot rookie fowler was cut he was plus five okay we made a rule where the minimum is plus three but he got above it so it was plus five okay and now I tell you yours how you feeling right now two rounds yep how you feeling good I don't know all right your favorite match pitsatrick twenty uh tied 22nd I'm pretty sure and it's plus four your long shot I had no idea what this said I had to find a golfer that was looked like this a golfery or something tied forty three I don't know who was daddy show it to me I can't read your handwriting show it to me don't look at the top corner of the same up Chris got her up Chris got her up got her up a tie forty third plus eight and your long shot Alec Fitzpatrick tied 23 plus five final score of plus seventeen my final score of plus eighteen I am now three and one on the year and I have the third overall I am the third wait you hit plus what I had plus eight oh all right and I hit plus seventeen or something yep I do all these I did it all today I use my cal I use my phone calculator to do the result.
SPEAKER_04Alright are you ready for the uh my pen you know what um I'm gonna do something I don't usually do I'm gonna take Scotty Shuffler I don't know where your pen is your pen all right I'll just borrow you first you have to write down a shuffler Scotty Sharpie doesn't work no I'm gonna do something I don't do that much I'm gonna take I think I'm gonna take shuffle we got a little shuffle shuffler shuffle shuffler shuffle going on huh?
SPEAKER_01Is not working no I go two times we gotta put the background music on when we're doing this we need yeah we gotta invest in some better background music I'll invest all right mentor contenders now we got McIntyre here with English Al Fitpatrick Jordan Speech now I think I'm gonna go with staff go here.
SPEAKER_04I'm gonna go McIntyre okay good pick all right or McIntyre I'll go let's see this is the tri is um I'm gonna go Gary Woodland Gary Woodland now you go again you go and my long shot last but certainly not least let me look at this and this is a nice uh field um I'm doing the odds of 2-1 no not plus let's see we've got let's see we've got Daniel Berger on here yeah okay um I'm gonna go with Denny McCarthy he's a really good putter 250 to one yeah Denny McCarthy all right you you remember your pen oh yeah Dean McCarthy all right I got mine down ready okay I'm gonna go the one the only the day the Jason day nice Jason Day all right I think uh that's the show all right thanks for listening don't forget to get on YouTube and subscribe and we'll see you next week every Thursday
