SPEAKER_01

Welcome to the Cashley Show. We are Kevin and Ashley.

SPEAKER_00

Hello.

SPEAKER_01

We started this podcast after recent tragedies to take a break from negativity and discover the good news happening all around us. Today we are doing Lost in Time, Rediscovering Forgotten TV shows.

SPEAKER_00

I'm in.

SPEAKER_01

Entertainment keeps changing, and many TV shows we once loved have faded away as new ones take their place. Some become classics, but others are forgotten, leaving us with only faint memories. Today we'll revisit those lost treasures. Let's take another look and rediscover the magic we might have missed.

SPEAKER_00

So these are gonna be because we did like what did we do, like eighties and nineties? But we didn't do TV and movies, like you were specifically trying to do that?

SPEAKER_01

I think in eighties we didn't have enough time. And I don't think these were actually on the eighties one. These are just like I don't know, anywhere from like the seventies through the nineties, I think.

SPEAKER_00

Because when when were there like TV shows? When was that a thing? I don't know. Tyler Moore show and like what was before.

SPEAKER_01

Do you remember when it was the first TV show?

SPEAKER_00

Well, I don't yeah, I don't even know. When did Philo T. Farnsworth make the TV?

SPEAKER_01

September 11th, 1928.

SPEAKER_00

Really? Interesting.

SPEAKER_01

It was television's first drama, The Queen's Messenger.

SPEAKER_00

That's fine. So basically since the 1930s, there's been TV shows.

SPEAKER_01

Well, it says it's first drama. So I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I mean they had what Snow White was like in 1920s also. Like the first colored or first one with sound, maybe? Something like that. Sorry. Not meaning to give a television history lesson.

SPEAKER_01

This this is gonna be long, so we gotta move through. First up we have salute your shorts.

SPEAKER_00

Salute your shorts. Was this Nickelodeon? What was this on? Nick Nick Nick Nick Nick Nick. Nickelodeon? That's what you were supposed to do.

SPEAKER_01

Sorry, I was trying to hear it. Nickelodeon. Alright. So this ran from 1991 to 1992.

SPEAKER_00

So it was not a good show then.

SPEAKER_01

It was a good show. Do you remember the show?

SPEAKER_00

I do remember the show, and I thought that it was a good show, but if it only ran for once.

SPEAKER_01

Nickelodeon did not like it, apparently. So this one is summer camp means strong bug spray, even stronger pranks, and plenty of underwear. Lost up the flagpole. A group of teens still with friendship, mischief. Next time.

SPEAKER_00

Netflix has a show kind of like salute your shorts. Their kids are watching.

SPEAKER_01

What was that? Camp Kiki Waka.

SPEAKER_00

Camp Kiki Waka, yeah. Right. It's very Salute Your Shorts S. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. It was a good show. Yeah. Next is the Adventures of Pete and Pete. So this is from 1992 to 1996. So this used to be I think it changed into like episodes, but it used to be like short clips.

SPEAKER_00

Pete and Pete?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. So meet two brothers, both named Pete. They get into trouble to get into double the trouble and have triple the freckles. And a memorable sibling rivalry.

SPEAKER_00

I never really watched Pete and Pete. Like I know the show, the one kid had a tattoo like on his forearm.

SPEAKER_01

I made a dance.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I had friends that that watched it and really liked it, but I never it wasn't for me.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. I only remember a little bit of it. I don't think I watched it a lot because I was anyways. Next up we have my two dads. Do you remember the show?

SPEAKER_00

Vaguely. Is that Sabrina? No. Oh no, that's a girl from Step by Step.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. So my dad.

SPEAKER_00

Paul Reiser.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and I don't know what this guy's name is. But my two dads ran from 1987 to 1990. After Marcy Bradford passes away, her daughter Nicole ends up with two dads. One a business professional and the other an artist. So these guys were both dating Marcy, I believe. And she wanted the I don't remember if she wanted them both to have her, or they decided they both wanted to raise her. So they all moved into one house together. It's kind of weird.

SPEAKER_00

That is a little bit weird. Two dudes dating the same same woman, and when she dies, they take care of her daughter.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

True love, I guess.

SPEAKER_01

A little weird. The next one is.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I remember this. I loved this show.

SPEAKER_01

Perfect Strangers are friends.

SPEAKER_00

This show, this spawned Family Matters.

SPEAKER_01

Oh really?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, because she's like the mom from Family Matters is the elevated operators. She was the elevator operator in their building. And then Family Matters like spawned, like it was her what do they call that when they sp a spin-off? Yeah. Family Matters is a spin-off from Perfect Strangers.

SPEAKER_01

I didn't know that. I don't know that I remember the show that much. Oh, really?

SPEAKER_00

I loved this show. Really? Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So this one rats Cousin.

SPEAKER_00

Cousin Larry.

SPEAKER_01

They ran from 1986 to 1993.

SPEAKER_00

See, like that's much longer than Salute Your Shorts. That's how you know it was a good show.

SPEAKER_01

Uptight Larry's orderly life is turned upside down when his sheep hurting cousin Balkie?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, Balkie.

SPEAKER_01

Moves in from Balkie Bartokamus.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know if they ever say what country he was actually from. Like he always just talks about his country.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Sorry, keep going.

SPEAKER_01

You're good. Next one is Hey.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, this is only two years? I remember I loved this show. It's only two years, so it's also sucked.

SPEAKER_01

What didn't?

SPEAKER_00

If it didn't suck, it would be around for longer than two years.

SPEAKER_01

Nickelodeon just had a hard time with keeping good shows.

SPEAKER_00

I absolutely loved this show. This show was so super fun.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, this one was from 1989 to 1991.

SPEAKER_00

And the the blonde girl, she's she's married to, or I don't know if they're still married.

SPEAKER_01

Ben Stiller?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, Ben Stiller, right? I don't remember her name. I think so.

SPEAKER_01

Christine Taylor.

SPEAKER_00

Is that not her? Maybe it's not her. Yeah, just do Hey Dude.

SPEAKER_01

Also, when you have to do Hey Dude, you have to put that it's a show because there's a shoe brand called Hey Dude.

SPEAKER_00

A shoe brand?

SPEAKER_01

You're right. It is Christine Taylor. Boom. Good job. Okay. Next up we have today's special. I don't think I've ever heard of this. My sister was the one that was like, oh, you should do today's special. So this one is for her. I kind of recognize the people, but I don't remember the show at all. So this one ran from 1981 to 1987. Says after the department store closes, mannequins come to life, mice offer fashion tips, and magic hats are part of the fun. It's much wilder than any shopping day.

SPEAKER_00

This explains so much of why your sister is who she is.

SPEAKER_01

I remember this lady's outfit. This little pink jumper with like red collar. But it was like a red belt. I remember her outfit more than anything else on this show.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I don't think I've ever heard of it.

SPEAKER_01

That's funny.

SPEAKER_00

But it ran for six years.

SPEAKER_01

So next up is Fraggle Rock. Yeah. Fraggle Rock's a Muppety show, just so people.

SPEAKER_00

It's probably the only Muppet show that I think I like. Besides, I don't know if I call them Muppets, the dinosaur show. But anyways, yeah, Fraggle Rock I liked. I mean, this was good. Kind of before my time.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, Fraggle Rock ran from 1983 to 1987. I I'm sure they did like reruns.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that's what I what I remember it from. Yeah. I mostly liked the the little construction guys that would build stuff. I don't remember what they're called.

SPEAKER_01

I forgot that.

SPEAKER_00

And I feel like they built stuff out of sugar or something. They built like sugar tubes that they connected together to build buildings. I might be making that part up though.

SPEAKER_01

Dozers?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, dozers. Look at those guys. They're awesome.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, they're also little Muppet guys, huh?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Little Muppet guys with hard hats and mustaches.

SPEAKER_01

Mm-hmm. Alright. Next we have Oh, sorry. In Fraggal Rock, fuzzy creatures spend their days singing, celebrating, and finding creative ways to avoid chores. There are plenty of snack breaks, dozer drama, and lots of musical numbers.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I don't I still don't I don't really know what this show is about at all.

SPEAKER_01

Probably not.

SPEAKER_00

Because don't they live like underground or something? And when they go above ground, there's like some sort of something that chases them, or like it's almost like they're rabbits in a garden was the feeling I got.

SPEAKER_01

They live in a complex network of magical caves when they're not filling their time playing games, singing songs. Gobo, Moki, Red, Wembley, and Booper.

SPEAKER_00

Didn't your didn't your little brother used to call oh no, that was beeper. Yeah, he's called Beeper. Yeah. It's called April Beeper. Yeah. Johnny Hee-Haw. Yeah. Beeper and Hee-Haw. I wonder where that came from.

SPEAKER_01

They seek the sage advice from Marjorie the Trash Heap.

SPEAKER_00

Marjorie the Trash Keep?

SPEAKER_01

Trash Heap.

SPEAKER_00

The Trash Heap? You want advice from a woman who's named after garbage?

SPEAKER_01

It is garbage.

SPEAKER_00

This is this show had terrible, terrible teaching for children.

SPEAKER_01

And they had to stay away from giant beings beings known as gorgs.

SPEAKER_00

I think that that must be what I'm thinking of. Like they when they go up out of the caves, those things that you said, like try and get them.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. They're almost like the what's the elephant thing on Sesame Street?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Uh hey bird. I don't know his name though. Snuffolophagus?

SPEAKER_01

Snuffolophagus. Something like that, yeah. Yeah. Good job.

SPEAKER_00

Hey bird.

SPEAKER_01

Next one we have the gummy bears.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, bouncing here and there and also everywhere.

SPEAKER_01

This one ran from 1985 to 1991.

SPEAKER_00

I would still watch this show.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. These bouncing bears have a secret juice that lets them leap around. The show features medieval villains, talking trees, and plenty of bear themed jokes.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know if I remember any bear themed jokes. Maybe I was too young, but I do. That show was super fun. Yeah. The theme song to that show, like that one, DuckTales, Tailspin, Rescue Rangers, like those one man, those hit the spot.

SPEAKER_01

Next up we have Inspector Gadget.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I did forget about this.

SPEAKER_01

Cartoon.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Penny, that's her name.

SPEAKER_01

This one ran from 1982 to 1985. Inspector Gadget is a detective with lots of gadgets, but he is often clueless. His niece Penny and Dog Brain usually save the day when his inventions go wrong.

SPEAKER_00

Right. This is this must have been where uh Tim the Toolman Taylor got his act from. Yeah. That's what it reminds me of.

SPEAKER_01

That's funny, probably. Next we have Heathcliff.

SPEAKER_00

I don't remember much about like I know this.

SPEAKER_01

Well, it's because it only ran for one year.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. That makes sense then. Like they're trying to spin off of Garfield.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. So it's like Garfield. And next we have Ah, Real Monsters.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know. Five. Actually, the that pink guy is a little bit fairly. Where he holds his eyeballs with his hands. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

This show is kind of weird.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I don't think I ever watched this. I very vaguely remember ever seeing any of this.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, you were probably busy playing soccer.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, 94 to 97. Yep.

SPEAKER_01

These monsters attend Monster Academy to learn how to scare scare people, but mastering the art of a fright is harder than they expected.

SPEAKER_00

So like Monsters Inc. Yep. Here I thought Monsters Inc.

SPEAKER_01

was a unique show.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Next one is The Secret Life of Alex Mack.

SPEAKER_00

Is she like she can turn into a puddle or something?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So that's her superpower? Is she going to be a puddle?

SPEAKER_01

Well, she can turn into other things. So this ran from 94 to 1998. After a chemical accident, Alec Mack gains powers and tries to balance her normal life. So she can turn into like this blobby thing. And like I don't remember if she can like form other things into other objects.

SPEAKER_00

I feel like I recognize that girl from something else.

SPEAKER_01

Her name is Larissa. I don't know how to say her last name.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, maybe I don't recognize her. So maybe she just reminds me of Alicia Silverstone.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, kind of. She can shoot electricity from her fingertips, morph into a blob of goo.

SPEAKER_00

That's it.

SPEAKER_01

That's a chemical that's spilled on her.

SPEAKER_00

It's such like a a cheap like way to get superpowers, right? Like a vat of chemical or radioactive. Right. And now I'm super Alright.

SPEAKER_01

Next we have the early edition.

SPEAKER_00

He gets the newspaper like a day early and then runs around saving people, right? I also loved this show.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, from 96 to 2000 was on this Amazon. Yep. That's what that one was.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and there's like a cat, it's like an orange cat. Yeah. I feel like I remember.

SPEAKER_01

I remember when I was writing this something about the cat feeding the cat or the cat was on the paper. It was on the paper.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, the cat would always be there. Like in the morning, he'd get the paper and the cat would be there.

SPEAKER_01

The cat brings the paper?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, apparently. I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

Our cat doesn't do anything.

SPEAKER_00

It doesn't even catch mice. Not only does it not time travel and bring me tomorrow's newspaper, it doesn't even do regular cat things.

SPEAKER_01

Next one is Sweet Valley High.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know if I remember this.

SPEAKER_01

So this one ran from 94 to 98. It's based on a book series. This show follows Wakefield twins and their friends as they navigate high school in Sweet Valley, California.

SPEAKER_00

This is just like what's the the blonde high school clueless? That's what this reminds me of. Yeah. Was clueless before or after this?

SPEAKER_01

I think oh I don't know. I think one of these girls is nice, one of them's not nice, and they're the one on the left looks mean. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Just from here. I'm gonna go with that.

SPEAKER_01

Clueless was in the late 90s, right?

SPEAKER_00

I don't remember. 95? 95. So right in the middle of that show.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. So this is based on the book. So the book was out before the movie. So it's probably off that. Alright, next we have The Torkelson's show.

SPEAKER_00

Uh no, it only ran for a year.

SPEAKER_01

This was a good show.

SPEAKER_00

Torkelsons? Like that's the name of the show. It's hard to say. That's why it failed. People wanted to say that they were watching this new show. Watching the show, what's it called? The Torkelson? Turk Turk Torkleson?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, this one just says this teenager often feels embarrassed by her working class family.

SPEAKER_00

The dad's wearing a suit.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I think the mom has like a southern accent. I remember that of this show.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I I've never even heard of this show. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I liked it.

SPEAKER_00

For the whole year that it was on. Mm-hmm. It was a good year.

SPEAKER_01

I watched a lot more sh TV than Kevin's, so and all of these shows are just things that I remember, so I'm sure I'm missing a ton of things.

SPEAKER_00

But when we get to the end, I'll talk about the shows I remember.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Next we have my wife and kids.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. I watched a show recently.

SPEAKER_01

Did you?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I liked this show a lot. I always like the Wayne guys. I think they're funny.

SPEAKER_00

It isn't there, there's like eight of them or something, isn't there? The Wayne's family? You should look that up. They're seriously like Wayne brothers. A bunch of them. And they've all they're all like fairly successful.

SPEAKER_01

Ten.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And like they're all well to do, somewhat famous, like successful. So good job, good job, Wayne's family. Good job, Mama and Dad Wayne.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. This show ran from 2001 to 2005. Alright. Next we have Kids Incorporated.

SPEAKER_00

I don't think I know this show.

SPEAKER_01

I remember the name. I didn't remember what was it.

SPEAKER_00

54 to 94.

SPEAKER_01

Mm-hmm. So they just did musical performances. So next is You Can't Do That On Television.

SPEAKER_00

I remember the commercial, like the or the intro of that face, right, and stuff. I don't really remember what this show was about at all.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I don't I remember that face too. And this image too with the all of them sitting there together with triangles all behind them.

SPEAKER_00

So what was this show about?

SPEAKER_01

Uh it's a sketch comedy with young actors.

SPEAKER_00

Did any of them ever go anywhere? Alanis want to say it's it. What? Is she like a musical number on the show, or was she actually on the show? I just put cast and that's from 79 to 2004?

SPEAKER_01

I'm sure she was just on at some point. Right.

SPEAKER_00

I don't recognize any of those names.

SPEAKER_01

No. So that's too bad. Oh, back.

SPEAKER_00

They had a good run. Oh, and you can't do that.

SPEAKER_01

Alright, next we have Are You Afraid of the Dark?

SPEAKER_00

I don't think I ever watched the show either.

SPEAKER_01

Really?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I was always scared of the show. My sister always loved scary shows.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, she does like scary stuff.

SPEAKER_01

And I still don't.

SPEAKER_00

I'd watch scary movies or shows with your sister, but it would be weird for me and her to watch stuff together.

SPEAKER_01

So maybe you and her and her husband can watch shows together. So the kids, it's called the Midnight Society, and they they gather around a campfire and tell ghost stories.

SPEAKER_00

Like then it's it switches to like it being acted out. Okay. Yeah. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

The next we have Erie Indiana. You remember that show? It also only ran for one year. So a teenage investigator, Marshall Teller, explores his strange new town and his friends. So a lot of like weird things just happen here. So it's just him exploring.

SPEAKER_00

What's the in Stranger Things?

SPEAKER_01

I never watch Stranger Things. You want to know the town up there?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, because it it's not Erie, but I'm pretty sure it's Indiana. Hawkins. Hawkins. Yeah. So I wonder if this has any sort of play, right? Because when was Erie Indiana on?

SPEAKER_01

91, I believe. Sorry. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Because I think, right? Like Stranger Things is all it's very like retro, like 80s and whatnot. So I wonder if like Erie Indiana comes into play or what do you call that? Inspiration.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, probably. Next one? Ocean Girl.

SPEAKER_00

Nope.

SPEAKER_01

So I think this girl or the show is like Australian or New Zealand, but an underwater research team befriends a mysterious girl from the ocean.

SPEAKER_00

Now the title of the show makes sense. I was just thinking, like, that's not a very good title. That's the best you can come up with. Ocean Girl.

SPEAKER_01

This ran from 94 to 97. Okay, next. Flash Forward. So I I remember this girl and this boy, but I don't remember the show.

SPEAKER_00

Flash Forward? 2009, 2010. Also one year ago.

SPEAKER_01

It looks much older than this is friends share stories of their ups and downs of middle school comparing them to their early.

SPEAKER_00

Middle school, scroll back up. They're all 20 years old, easily. They're older than the Save by the Bell actors who were high schools. And they're supposed to be middle school students. That guy's got a freaking mustache.

unknown

No, he doesn't.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, he does. Those are not middle school children.

SPEAKER_01

Doesn't matter.

SPEAKER_00

They drove their kids to middle school. That's how old they are.

SPEAKER_01

Next is Teen Angel. No. Also ran for one year.

SPEAKER_00

I feel like I recognize those two guys though.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, after his death, a teenager returns to Earth as his best friend's guardian angel.

SPEAKER_00

That's a fun idea.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Too bad it didn't last very long. Next is Unhappily Ever After. So this guy has like schizophrenia. And he hangs out in his basement on his couch talking to like a puppet rabbit.

SPEAKER_00

Right. It's voiced by the guy from he is in Police Academy. What is his name? He always wild Bobcat Bobcat something. Right? He's got just the crazy voice. I would do an impression of it, but I'd be a little scared.

SPEAKER_01

Hey, that guy from Malcolm the Middle is the brother on this, right? Since he's on here. Ross. Kevin Conley. Oh, Bobcat Gold Goldweight?

SPEAKER_00

Something like that. Mr.

SPEAKER_01

Huh.

SPEAKER_00

He must have come in the guy from Malcolm the Middle must have come in later years. Right. Because he's not in any of the earlier pictures. I r I do remember this show. And who Nikki Cox? Is that the daughter's name?

SPEAKER_01

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Pound puppies. Yeah, pound puppies. 1985 to 1980.

SPEAKER_00

It was only three years.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And like, yeah, again, I'm I must have been watching reruns.

SPEAKER_01

Well, and when our kids were little, they had a new pound puppies. So it was I remember watching that with our kids. It was good too. Next do we have what I like about you.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, I recognize these people. I must have seen the show. Yeah. How long did it run for? Oh. You don't know. You skipped that part on this one, huh? This show, what I like about you, if you scroll back up, this is just a bunch of attractive people. This is like what was that OC show or whatever?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

This is a bunch of attractive people they put in front of a camera together so people will watch.

SPEAKER_01

Moving on. Herman's Head.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know this show.

SPEAKER_01

So it seems like this show is like that Disney show with the emotions and the girls. Yeah. Forget what that show's called.

SPEAKER_00

Inside Out?

SPEAKER_01

Yes. Inside Out. So Herman's Head ran from 91 to 94. A fact checker's four different personality traits argue with each other as he tries to make decisions.

SPEAKER_00

They had fact checkers back in the early 90s? I thought that was kind of like a newer job.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I don't know. Anyways, next. Remember this guy in the red hat. I'm referring to this show. Next one is 100 deeds for Eddie McDowd. Never heard of it. So this round from 98 to 2002. Former bully is turned into a dog and must do one hundred good deeds to become human again.

SPEAKER_00

Easy. I could do a hundred deeds in a day. Boom. Back to a human. Back to bullying.

SPEAKER_01

Next one is Bobby's World.

SPEAKER_00

When you said that that guy the Herman's head, the first thing I thought was Bobby's World.

SPEAKER_01

Oh really? Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And but I didn't want to say it because like I didn't I don't want to steal your thunder. Plus at the end, if I have shows that I want to bring up, like yeah, Bobby's World was I didn't know that Howie Mandel was like a comic or anything, right? Oh when you were like watching the show, I saw he was like, I thought he was Bobby.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. So then to see him later on in life, it's like, wait, that's that guy. That's Bobby.

SPEAKER_01

That's what he's known for. Alright, next we have Ghost Rider.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, I do remember this show. Like moved letters around and stuff. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, Ghost Rider around from 91 and 95. A group of kids solve neighborhood mysteries with the help of a ghost who can communicate by writing.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I do remember this show and it was pretty fun.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it was a good show. Next is head of the class.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, vaguely.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I only remember this a little bit. Mostly this the teacher.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, mostly the guy, yeah, the main guy.

SPEAKER_01

So it says an easygoing teacher guides a group of high achieving students through academics and life lessons. Ran from 86 to 91.

SPEAKER_00

Bunch of high achieving students. And what was the what was the one Michelle Pfeiffer was in? She was a teacher. Dangerous Minds? See, now that's better because it's like inner city youth and their struggle. This is a bunch of like privileged, high achieving children. I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

Next up, just the ten of us.

SPEAKER_00

Cheaper by the dozen?

SPEAKER_01

From around from 87 to 90. A high school teacher. Looks like he's also maybe a basketball coach. His pregnant wife and their seven kids move out west for a fresh start.

SPEAKER_00

Is she pregnant for the whole show?

SPEAKER_01

Like that seems no, probably just in the beginning. Or I don't know, maybe they keep having kids. Next up is the Waynes brother. They're back. Look at that.

SPEAKER_00

The Waynes family again.

SPEAKER_01

Brothers Sean and Marlon are complete opposites. Sean is responsible and Marlon is free-spirited and adventurous. Together they search for success.

SPEAKER_00

Good for them.

SPEAKER_01

I liked them.

SPEAKER_00

I know I don't ever remember that show.

SPEAKER_01

Oh.

SPEAKER_00

But good for them.

SPEAKER_01

Next is The Twilight Zone.

SPEAKER_00

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_01

The one from 1959. It ran till 1964. I feel like the old one is more scary than the newer version.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I was gonna say, is there there must because I remember like this only ran for five years, but I remember I don't know, much more, seems like than five years.

SPEAKER_01

Ah, the newer one says twenty nineteen to twenty twenty.

SPEAKER_00

I guess the Twilight Zone that I remember is the old one.

SPEAKER_01

Maybe there was a movie.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, there's one from 85 to 89.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that's probably the one I remember.

SPEAKER_01

But I think the black and white one is.

SPEAKER_00

Is the better?

SPEAKER_01

Next is snorks.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

This one ran from 1984 to 1989. They're magical underwater creatures with they have snorkels and they have exciting adventures in the ocean.

SPEAKER_00

But snorkels, you have to go to the surface to get air. Your snorkel still has to go up into the air.

SPEAKER_01

Well, these are like their noses, I guess like their gills, maybe, because they're blowing bubbles out of their little snorkel.

SPEAKER_00

Those aren't snorkels. The whole premise of your show is false. I'm glad you didn't think.

SPEAKER_01

It's their version of snorkel.

SPEAKER_00

False, no. It's not how snorkels work.

SPEAKER_01

Next is Nickelodeon Snick.

SPEAKER_00

Snick?

SPEAKER_01

I think it was like TGIF. Had like Clarissa Explains It All, Ren and Stimpy, Roadhouse, Are You Afraid of the Dark? In 94, they had All That and The Secret World of Alex Mack.

SPEAKER_00

We already talked about several of these shows. So this is just their TJIF. Yeah. Did it also play on Fridays? Or is this Saturday morning? Is that why it was SNCC?

SPEAKER_01

Saturday night. I think it was Saturday night. SNCC. They had like this orange couch. I don't remember what happened on the orange couch, but it seemed like people sat on it. Next one is Reading Rainbow.

SPEAKER_00

Reading Rainbow.

SPEAKER_01

So it began in 1983.

SPEAKER_00

Take a look. It's in a book. Reading Rainbow.

SPEAKER_01

Within the last few years. So I think it was on and then stopped and then came back. So I don't know when it's a good idea.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, he got like what's the crowdfunding websites?

SPEAKER_01

I don't know. Never done it.

SPEAKER_00

You know what I'm talking about though, right?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he got like crowdfunded to bring it back and then was it on Netflix, maybe? I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

I don't know, but I feel like it's a good idea.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Introducing sh books to kids.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, oh, I'd love to show as a kid. I watched a show all the time as a kid.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Like I I knew him from reading Rainbow before I knew him from Star Trek.

SPEAKER_01

I never watched Star Trek, so I only know him from Reading Rainbow. But I did remember his name.

SPEAKER_00

You do remember his name?

SPEAKER_01

Yep. I did remember that. Alright. Next up we have Coach.

SPEAKER_00

Coach. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I like this guy. What's his name?

unknown

Oh no.

SPEAKER_00

I know it. He was gonna be the dad in the family show. Modern Family.

SPEAKER_01

But he's the dad on Parenthood.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, he's dad on Parenthood and a coach.

SPEAKER_01

I saw earlier. Craig T.

SPEAKER_00

Nelson.

SPEAKER_01

Next we have go back up.

SPEAKER_00

89 to 97? I had no idea it ran that long.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Good for them.

SPEAKER_01

Next is MacGyver. I never watched this show. I've really seen here for you.

SPEAKER_00

Thank you. Yeah, I this show is probably I don't know. I don't want to say it's why I'm a software engineer, but like in in like into sciences and stuff is a like this show's a big part of why I I probably went the way that I went. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Why don't you carry a Swiss Army knife all the time like he does?

SPEAKER_00

I I used to. Oh really? Yeah, I had several Swiss Army knives. Uh-huh. And like tinfoil gum wrappers and springs and like just trinkets and things that might be useful in situations that need to get me out of.

SPEAKER_01

That's why you're so good at fixing things.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Yeah. This show. This show was the show was awesome.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Next we have Mr. T.

SPEAKER_00

Like a cartoon?

SPEAKER_01

They had a cartoon of it. Yeah. That's what I remember as a cartoon.

SPEAKER_00

And his young gymnastics team. Why does he have a young gymnastics team? Mr.

SPEAKER_01

T is Maybe they work out at the same gym.

SPEAKER_00

And they fight crime together. What is this show? Oh.

SPEAKER_01

Alright. So now we have just a couple of game shows. We may have talked about some of these before, but we're just gonna do it again. Shop Till You Drop ran from 1991 to 2005. So two teams compete in this game show. It's a mix of the price is right and a beat the clock.

SPEAKER_00

I don't think I know this show.

SPEAKER_01

So you have to answer questions, and then this show was so good. And they've tried to redo a couple shows, and they just are never as good as their original.

SPEAKER_00

So the maybe I'm thinking of a different one. I'm thinking of one where like they run around a grocery store putting stuff in their carts.

SPEAKER_01

That's that's a different one. That's coming up.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Because I like that one.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I don't know the shop till you drop.

SPEAKER_01

So this one is Win, Lose, or Draw. I mean, there's a don't really need to explain it.

SPEAKER_00

There's a game of this, right? Like a board game or whatever.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's just watching people do it on TV.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I don't I've never seen that.

SPEAKER_01

Ran for three years. They just each sit out on a couch, you're watching them.

SPEAKER_00

That's funny. That that ran for three years, but some of the other shows we talked about only made it a year.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But watching people play When You Lose or Draw lasted for three years.

SPEAKER_01

Next one is Where in the World is Carmen San Diego?

SPEAKER_00

In the world is Carmen San Diego.

SPEAKER_01

So contestants play junior detectives, chasing the international thief by answering geography questions. Go ahead, sorry. This ran from 91 to 95.

SPEAKER_00

Because I remember I like I don't think I've ever seen this show. But I think if I wasn't playing the Oregon Trail in Computer Lab, I was playing Where in the World Is Carmen San Diego? Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I remember coming home from school and watching this show.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and maybe I have seen this show and I'm just not remembering it.

SPEAKER_01

Next one is Legend of the Hidden Temple. Ran from 1993 to 1995. Six teams compete for a chance to search for treasure inside the temple.

SPEAKER_00

So I imagine this I think I've seen this. This reminds me of like the Nickelodeon show with like all the was it slime and all the different things. What was that guy's name? The host? Mark. Yeah, Mark H. something. Yeah, but anyways, that's what Legend of the Hidden Temple. I imagine that's a Nickelodeon game show. Mm-hmm. I think so. Is Nickelodeon still on and doing stuff? Like that was a pretty big part of our childhood, right? Nickelodeon.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And apparently there was a lot of bad stuff happening there, so.

SPEAKER_00

Oh really? No, don't tell me about that. I don't want to know. I just want to live my life in happy ignorance.

SPEAKER_01

Says that they're on their 46th year. They still have it. Loudhouse, SpongeBob. I never was in the Patrol. Peppa, Rock, Paper, Scissors. They have some dumb shows. Okay. Next up is Press Your Luck. Ran from 1983 to 1987.

SPEAKER_00

Is this like the whammies? No whammies? Okay. Yeah, I remember that.

SPEAKER_01

Doo doo doo doo doo do do do do do do do. This is the one you were thinking of. Double dare.

SPEAKER_00

Double Dare, yeah, with Mark.

SPEAKER_01

I only ran for two years.

SPEAKER_00

Really? Again, like this is so was the best show.

SPEAKER_01

And they try to redo it. It wasn't as good.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I just like there's so many of these shows that were like a year or two long that I remember watching, I feel like for a decade. Yeah. Like from when I was, I don't know, probably seven or eight till I was, I don't know, in my mid teens.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Doubledare was the best show. Alright. Last one, I think. Yeah, yeah. Supermarket sweep. Oh, nope, I have one more. Okay. Contestants answer trivia questions and race to the supermarket. Team with the most valuable cart at the end wins. And then they have to run around the store. So this ran for 13 years from 1990 to 2003. They had like the the skies holding the ginormous diet pepsy. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

The show was super fun. Like all the things that they like incorporated into it. So it wasn't just people like running around grocery store. There's all these like a giant diet Pepsi and all these things.

SPEAKER_01

And they have I think they had like money attached or like an envelope attached to it, so there's like money or gifts or something on it.

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_01

Alright. Last one is Nick Arcade. Two teams compete for a chance to enter a video game. So you remember the kids with this guy right here, he's like running and the this mummy's coming, and you have to like jump over things and yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I remember being a kid and watching this and being like, the timing is super off on this.

SPEAKER_01

But it was pretty advanced for back in 1992. For mighty two?

SPEAKER_00

Sure, I guess. But even I remember as a kid not being impressed because I was like, that timing super sucks. Like even then, my computer science skills was like, this is not great.

SPEAKER_01

I didn't know this and I loved the show.

SPEAKER_00

Your lag is super bad.

SPEAKER_01

This ran for five years.

SPEAKER_00

All right.

SPEAKER_01

Good for them. Let's hear about years. Oh boy. Okay. So don't do movies because we have a separate one for movies because this was so long.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, tailspin was a big one for me. Yeah, absolutely love tailspin.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Right? Like the the hey boo-boo.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I don't remember the little guy's name, but he was always riding like a little like a boomerang flying around in the sky being pulled behind whatever the It's like a big yellow plane bus thing. Um kit? Yeah, kit. Like he was that's who I wanted to be. Kit. Until I watched a goofy movie, right? And then it was like Max. But anyways, yeah, that show was super fun. How long did it run for? 90 to 91? So it ran for a year? Again, like a huge part of my childhood. I was apparently only alive from 89 to 92. That's like all I remember.

SPEAKER_01

You just watched the reruns and had no idea that they were revuns. Man, I was a dumb kid.

SPEAKER_00

That is so crazy. I feel like I watched years of that show. That's funny. Rescue Rangers was another big one I remember. Chip and Dale. Chip Chip Chip Chip Chip and Dale. Rescue Rangers.

SPEAKER_01

I actually had that on here, but I took it off. Why would you take it off? Because it was this was so long.

SPEAKER_00

This was like almost this was like cartoon MacGyver meets Inspector Gadget. Like they always had stuff and they were building things and getting out of situations, using their like ingenuity.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. They had the girl named Gadget. Yeah, yeah, the mouse, the mouse the bigger mouse guy named Monterey Jack.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

The little fly named Zipper.

SPEAKER_00

Zipper.

SPEAKER_01

The bad guy Fat Cat and Professor Norton. Nimnol.

SPEAKER_00

I don't think I remember him.

SPEAKER_01

You don't remember him?

SPEAKER_00

No. I don't think Oh, he's the bad guy. Yeah. Yeah, okay. Yeah. And so like that mouse, right? Super smart girl in science. Right? This is back in the early 90s. See, girls can be good at science.

SPEAKER_01

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00

And like they didn't make it a huge part of the show where it's like she takes over.

SPEAKER_01

Also, one year.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I can't believe that. That is that still blows my mind. Batman, the animated series. I remember like running home, getting off the bus and running home.

SPEAKER_01

Oh really?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, to watch that show to make sure I didn't miss it. Yeah. And then there was Darkwing Duck, which was like Disney's. That was like Disney's version of Batman.

SPEAKER_01

One year.

SPEAKER_00

Because they whatever. Was it at least no, it was 91 and 92 also, just like Rescue Rangers.

SPEAKER_01

I think that was 89 to 90. Was it? Yep, 89. 89 and 90 for Rescue Rangers. Man.

SPEAKER_00

All these I guess don't don't take my word for it. When I like shows, assume they will be cancelled.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, all the shows we like do get cancelled.

SPEAKER_00

That's true. I mean, DuckTales, obviously big one. Woo-hoo. Trying to think of what else I would have. And so in the morning, right? Like we would I would get ready and then I don't know what the like TV land is what I want to say. But I don't know if it was TV land. Because I would watch Gilligan's Island. Like I'd get up, get ready for school, and then like the you know, I don't have to leave for another half hour or something until the bus comes or whatever. Yeah, like so it'd be like Gilgan's Island and then another like I don't remember really anything about Gilgan's Island. I wasn't watching that. I think I was too young to like get what was going on. Back in the 90s when you did that, when small children watch shows way above them.

SPEAKER_01

You have an episode about that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I'm trying to remember what the other show was.

SPEAKER_01

I used to watch Green Acres on TV land.

SPEAKER_00

Green Acres is the place to be. Is that farm? The Andy Griffiths show. Andy Griffith Show and Gilgan's Island were like the two that were on. Yeah. When was Andy Griffith's show? Because that was black and white.

SPEAKER_01

I I remember Andy Griffith, like the whistling, so I assume my.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, in the beginning. Lassie. I never watched that show, but that seemed like that was a big show.

SPEAKER_01

1960 to 68 for Andy Griffiths.

SPEAKER_00

That w in the 60s was black and white? When did Color TV come about? I thought Color TV was like in the 50s.

SPEAKER_01

53.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. What's going on, Andy Griffith?

SPEAKER_01

Well, just because the color sets came out in 53 doesn't mean they still showed up. We meant adoption.

SPEAKER_00

Sure.

SPEAKER_01

It was slow at first. So I'm sure they just recorded in black and white because nobody had it. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Who could afford it? Sure. Let's see. What else can I remember as a kid? I mean, there was like the TJF shows. Right? Family Matters. That show was super funny. Loved that show. Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Yeah. Loved that show too. What else was on TJIF? Full House. Step by step. Step by step. Day by day. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, this dinosaur.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that's the one I was talking about. Remember, I was like the only Muppet. I was like, I don't know if the dinosaurs count as Muppets. I'm the baby. Gotta love me. Yeah. I don't know. How long did the dinosaurs run for? It better only be a year.

SPEAKER_01

Boy Mate's World was on there. Oh.

SPEAKER_00

Topinga.

SPEAKER_01

First stepful house. This girl likes she has a magic finger, but I can't see what it is. Sabrina the teenage witch. I did have this dinosaur show on here, but I took it off because I didn't think anyone really watched it.

SPEAKER_00

I bet a lot of people watched it, or at least like like I remember the intro. Like yeah. I just thought it was super funny. How long did it run for?

SPEAKER_01

91 to 94.

SPEAKER_00

That ran for three years, but Tailspin only got one?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

You know what I still like the dinosaur show. That's fine. Yeah, because it's like it was like the Flintstones, but they're dinosaurs.

SPEAKER_01

It's on Disney Plus if you want to watch it.

SPEAKER_00

Maybe. I maybe make the kids watch it. I want to make them watch the Andy Griffith show.

SPEAKER_01

I know I need to put some of these on our list of shows to watch.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Oh, Martin Martin Lawrence? Martin show?

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. That was way funny too. He was super funny. I'm sure it was way inappropriate for me to be watching. On the UPN.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, just Martin. Martin.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Recess.

SPEAKER_00

Oh yeah, I I totally forgot about that show. Recess. That was an awesome show. Oh, that dude, what's his name? Scott something? From uh Quantum Leap? They just remade it. Scott Bacula, maybe that's his name. He's it's on that picture you have a Star Trek, some sort of Star Trek that he did that I didn't know of. But he did Quantum Leap. And that that show like blew my mind. Right? Because it's about a guy who like leaps through time into people's bodies when like bad things happen and he has to like right these wrongs. Yeah, it was a great show.

SPEAKER_01

Bob Sagitt was on Quantum Leap.

SPEAKER_00

I don't remember that. He must have been on for like an episode or something.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Guest starring. Rugrats. I think I watched Rugrats. I want to say I watched every season of Rugrats, but it very well could have only been on for a year. And I watched all 13 episodes.

SPEAKER_01

What about Doug?

SPEAKER_00

Oh yeah, Doug funny. Patty Mannace. Skeeter. Is that his name? Skeeter? Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Rugrats was on.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, wow, that went much longer than I thought.

SPEAKER_01

This has Hey Arnold.

SPEAKER_00

Cat Dog. Never really watched either of those. So in Rugrats, for that 12 years, were they babies the whole time?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, here's this all grown up 2003 to 2008.

SPEAKER_00

Man, Rugrats is killing it. Mr. What was Fred Rogers? Mr.

SPEAKER_01

Rogers. Mr.

SPEAKER_00

Rogers neighborhood. Right. Yeah. And what's the lamb thing? Lamb chop?

SPEAKER_01

Lamb chops. Play along. Yeah. I like I like Daniel Tiger. He's supposed to have taken Mr. Rogers. Mr.

SPEAKER_00

Rogers, yeah. He kind of has this a very similar intro, right? Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I like that better than Mr. Rogers. Alright, you got any more?

SPEAKER_00

No, that's plenty.
