Welcome to the Cashley Show. We are Kevin and Ashley.
SPEAKER_02Hello.
SPEAKER_00We started this podcast after recent tragedies to take a break from negativity and discover the good things happening all around us. Today we are talking about funny road signs.
SPEAKER_02Can there really be that many funny road signs? It's like 25 miles an hour.
SPEAKER_01Well, there's some good ones.
SPEAKER_02How can there be funny road signs?
SPEAKER_01You'll have to see.
SPEAKER_00Road signs are meant to guide us, warn us, and keep us safe. But every so often someone puts up a sign that makes you stop and look twice. Maybe it's a typo that turns a warning into a joke, a message that leaves you puzzled, or a bit of local humor added to the sign. These funny road signs show that even the most ordinary part of a road trip can surprise you. Here are some of the best ones we found. First one is pothole viewing area up the street.
SPEAKER_02What? Potholes viewing up the street.
SPEAKER_01So I guess you can watch everyone hit all the potholes.
SPEAKER_02Potholes viewing I don't know.
SPEAKER_03Hmm.
SPEAKER_01Alrighty. Next one we have just a one-way street on one side of the street. It says you can go right, but on the other side of the street, it says one way and you can go left only.
SPEAKER_02So it's like a regular street. Yes. On one side you go one way, on the other side you go the other way.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Okay. It's a little confusing.
SPEAKER_02Unnecessary signage.
SPEAKER_01This is in New Orleans. Now's next one just has a picture of a snail inside of a triangle.
SPEAKER_02Is it like a hazard triangle? So watch for snails.
SPEAKER_01Yep. Watch for snails as you're driving.
SPEAKER_02These better be big snails. Otherwise, I'm not sure I'm going to see them. Do you have any more? Like any more information? Like is that from don't like some places have like big snails. Like they're as big as like basketballs.
SPEAKER_01Oh really?
SPEAKER_02I think so. You should look it up real fast. I want to say I'm just gonna make this up. Australia, New Zealand, something like that.
SPEAKER_01What place has very large snails? Originally from East Africa, the giant African land snail has been established throughout the Indo-Pacific basin, including the Hawaiian Islands. Since 2011, these snails have been found in Miami, Florida.
SPEAKER_02So you should look those up. What are they called again? Giant land snails?
SPEAKER_01Giant African land snail.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's yucky.
SPEAKER_02So maybe not as big as a basketball, but says eight inches in length. So maybe that's what the sign's for.
SPEAKER_01Maybe. About the size of a human fist, the shell can reach eight inches in length and four inches in diameter. That's a big snail. Next we have airplane crossing.
SPEAKER_02So this is a road that goes across like a taxiway or something like that?
unknownI don't know.
SPEAKER_01I just looked up funny signs, so I don't I don't know a lot of information about most of them. Next one is parking prohibited. Parking will be fine.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. English is a tough one.
SPEAKER_01It is. Next one says, beware of invisible cows.
SPEAKER_02Most of the Hawaiian. Yeah. Monochia.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Access road below the hill something is open cattle range, and the cows frequently cross the road. Dark colored cows are often invisible in darkness and or fog. Use extreme caution and drive very slowly in this open range.
SPEAKER_02Beware the invisible cow.
SPEAKER_01Next one is slow children.
SPEAKER_02Oh, those poor kids.
SPEAKER_01It has also the triangle. What did you say it was? Like a hazard. Hazard. It looks like a parent and child running across a street, but it just says slow. And then blue says children.
SPEAKER_02Slow children play here.
SPEAKER_01So children walk across the street. Next one has a bridge and a yellow sign on a light pole. And it has a bicycle on the left side of the bridge, and it has a arrow pointing to the left, and a car on the right side of the sign, and it points into the water. Cars go on the water, bikes go on the bike path.
SPEAKER_02Bikes go on the road. Yeah, I mean there's a bike lane way off to the left. Yeah. Like bike lanes on the left, regular cars on the right, but the sign is in a terrible spot.
SPEAKER_01Next one has a picture of bikes. It's like a one-way bike going to the right, and then a one-way bike going to the left, but their the arrows are pointing at each other.
SPEAKER_02I want to know more about these signs.
SPEAKER_01Do you want to look them all up?
SPEAKER_02Well, we've already started.
SPEAKER_01The next one has E.T. a picture of E.T. on a yellow sign, and he has his finger up and he's wearing a seatbelt and it says buckle up.
SPEAKER_02Buckle up. I wonder what that just for fun? Yeah, what I'm sure it was. Is there a reference or something I don't get? I mean I understand it's E.T.
SPEAKER_01but Yeah, it's probably in the 80s, so it was like cool then.
SPEAKER_02Well, but I just mean more like is there some sort of Easter egg or reference that I'm missing? Not just that it's E.T. saying telling you to buckle up. But it has something Jimmy, look it up. No, I wanted you to be prepared.
SPEAKER_01I am prepared. I have funny signs.
SPEAKER_02But there's no information about any of them.
SPEAKER_01Alright. Do you want to start over and we'll do something else instead?
SPEAKER_02We'll have to push forward.
SPEAKER_01You don't like this one already.
SPEAKER_02I do like it. These are funny signs. That's why I want to know more about them.
SPEAKER_01Alright. This one says, Road closed to you to your normal way of life has construction down a residential road.
SPEAKER_02I've seen the close to through traffic, and I always ignore those and just drive through. I've never seen one of those ones though.
SPEAKER_01The next one says, go ahead, drink and drive. And it says, go to the right to jail, go to the left, the hospital, and well, I guess curved to the right was the first one. Via right, via your left. Yeah. And to the right is the morgue. Next one, they spelled stop sopped. SOPT. SOP. SOPT.
SPEAKER_02Do you think you would get in trouble if you didn't stop at this?
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_02Because it's a red what are stop signs? Octagons?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02It's a red octagon, so regardless of what it says.
SPEAKER_01Yep. Next one says, if you hit this, you'll hit bridge. And there's like little chimey things, I would assume, on a yeah.
SPEAKER_02There is a YouTube channel that is just I think all it is is this camera that watches a bridge that like someone put up. I don't think that it's like a city or county or whatever. I think it's like a person because the bridge gets hit so much by trucks and stuff like that. Really? So that there's like tons of videos of just like moving trucks and all sorts of trucks and things just smashing into this bridge. Doesn't look like it's this one.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. But that's interesting. People don't know how tall their truck is when they're going under bridges.
SPEAKER_02Maybe maybe. I mean a lot of moving trucks they probably don't. I think like also with like bikes on top of vehicles and all that type of stuff. Like just a lot of stuff hits this bridge.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Alright. Next one is says caution. Infernal traffic.
SPEAKER_02Infernal. I'm not even sure what infernal means. What does infernal mean? Infernal. Is it a real word?
SPEAKER_01Relating to or characteristic of hell or the underworld. It's a good sign.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I that sign could be in a lot of places. Just on almost all roadways.
SPEAKER_01Definitely, definitely LA.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Inf I don't know why infernal, the more I say it, the less it sounds like a real word. Infernal. It sounds like I'm trying to say something else and I don't know what. Infernal. Wait, scroll back up. Infernal looks weird, doesn't it? Like the F?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Like part of the F.
SPEAKER_02Oh, because it used to caution internal traffic and I N, and then they blocked off. See the upper part? It used to say internal traffic. But they made it into infernal. Someone modified the sign. That's how you get funny signs. People change them.
SPEAKER_01Not necessarily. Next one we have keep right, except the arrow points left.
SPEAKER_02Well, they mean the signs right. That's the problem with left and right. It's highly contextual.
SPEAKER_01It's true. It's true.
SPEAKER_02It's terrible for directions.
SPEAKER_01Next one, someone did add to this one. Stop. Collaborate and listen. I would assume someone added that. Maybe somebody just did that.
SPEAKER_02I don't think so because I think if someone didn't stop the stop sign because they were like, well, it seems like a joke, and then they got hurt or whatever, they just sue the city. Yeah. So I'm sure someone modified it. Stop. Collaborate and listen.
SPEAKER_03I'm back with my brand new invention.
SPEAKER_02That's probably all I can sing of that before we have to pay him money that he will then pay Queen.
SPEAKER_01Next is don't even think of parking here.
SPEAKER_02This is like the sign on my my mug.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Don't touch it. Don't even look at it.
SPEAKER_01Next one is sign not in use. It's just a red sign.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, why make it red?
SPEAKER_01Why would just take it down?
SPEAKER_02Because then people be like, where'd the sign go? So then you keep a sign up. This is like in the military when they had blank pages and stuff, and maybe you saw this IRS. It would have a blank page and it would say on the blank page.
SPEAKER_01Intentionally left blank.
SPEAKER_02Yep.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_02It's like, well, but now it's not blank. Because you've written on it. So either way you go with this, you're wrong.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Next one is squirrels have right of way.
SPEAKER_02No, they don't. Squirrels don't control me.
SPEAKER_01Do too.
SPEAKER_02I'll hit turkeys and squirrels and have a nice sandwich.
SPEAKER_01No, he won't because I'm not doing anything with that.
SPEAKER_02With some squirrel meat? I wonder what squirrel meat tastes like.
SPEAKER_01Gross. You think so? Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_02I don't think so.
SPEAKER_01100%.
SPEAKER_02I bet it tastes like rabbit.
SPEAKER_01Which I would assume is gross as well.
SPEAKER_02I bet it tastes like chicken. Squirrels taste like rabbit, and I bet rabbit tastes like chicken. I bet almost everything tastes like chicken.
SPEAKER_01Meh. I don't I don't love chicken. Not my favorite meat. Next one.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_01There's like a hospital sign, but it has a question mark and it points to the left.
SPEAKER_02There's a question over there.
SPEAKER_01Something's over there. Who is it?
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna go see. Figured out where it is. I wonder how people go left. I would probably go left if I came here. I'm curious. I don't know. So I would go left. See what it is. What do those other ones say behind it?
SPEAKER_01There's a Canada flag, so I guess this is in Canada.
SPEAKER_02Yep.
SPEAKER_01I can't read it.
SPEAKER_02Oh, under Scott. Scott's town.
SPEAKER_01Anyways, I think it's in Canada because there's a Canada flag in the back.
SPEAKER_02So is that what the question marks for? It's like hospitals that way, you may get some service if they're not busy.
SPEAKER_01We don't know. Good luck.
SPEAKER_02Is that snow? Nope, this is just No, go scroll back up. I understand what a white page looks like. Is that snow at the bottom of the powerful?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, there's snow up on the roof.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Yeah. Definitely Canada.
SPEAKER_01Next one. Speed limit. 20 kilometers per hour. Warthogs and children have right of way.
SPEAKER_02Do they like together? Like are the children riding warthogs?
SPEAKER_01Guess you'll have to write.
SPEAKER_02Or walking them? Go find out where this is. Or the warthog's chasing the children, and really you should hit the warthog.
SPEAKER_01Get out and help the children.
SPEAKER_02I'm not getting out of my car if there's a loose warthog. Run, children. Run.
SPEAKER_01The next one says Brentwood Chipping Ongar Industrial Estates. Secret Nuclear Bumper.
SPEAKER_02Nice.
SPEAKER_01Shh.
SPEAKER_02Secret. Nobody will know. It's written in red with white letters versus the white with black letters for the rest of the sign. That'll throw them off. That's one of my when I like growing up, like Pauly Shore in the Army now was like a my favorite movie for I don't know, a year or two. Oh yeah. And in there, like they get captured by whoever, and they say something like, Well, the war starts tomorrow. And like Pauly Shore's like battalion or whatever's like, how do you know? It's like we saw it on the news. They're announcing that the war starts tomorrow. Well, that's not very sneaky. Now we can prepare. So they prepare and they get all their stuff. So, anyways.
SPEAKER_01That's funny. Next is a sign that says the future and points forward as you're driving.
SPEAKER_02Unless you're coming from the other way.
SPEAKER_01Maybe you don't see the sign.
SPEAKER_02Then you realize you're a time traveler.
SPEAKER_01Maybe it's slightly turned so you can't see it. Or maybe it's a one-way road. It doesn't look very big.
SPEAKER_02Well, there's probably a one-way going the other way on the other side. Just like those other signs.
SPEAKER_01Maybe the back of the sign says the past.
SPEAKER_02I would get out and look. Now you said that. I don't know what's on the other side of that sign.
SPEAKER_01The next one says, Warning. This road crosses U.S. Air Force bombing range for the next 12 miles. Objects may fall from aircraft.
SPEAKER_02And it looks it is full of holes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. A little hard to read.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Well, I wonder how many times like they hit the road with their bombs. This is out in like they do this in the West Desert in Utah. Right? I mean, I don't know if that's where this sign is.
SPEAKER_01I don't know.
SPEAKER_02I mean, it looks very deserty.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But mayfall from Aircraft.
SPEAKER_01Next one has a stop sign. And then it says, no turning left. No turning right. Okay. No going backwards. No going straight. You're stuck here in this spot.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02What are you supposed to say?
SPEAKER_01There's construction happening on at least two of the roads. So maybe construction everywhere.
SPEAKER_02You get here and you just have to disappear.
SPEAKER_01If you get to this point, you're working on the road now.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, there's a lot of signs. This looks like one of those captcha things to make sure you're not a robot. Choose all the squares with a sign in it, because there are signs all over the place.
SPEAKER_01Wrong way, do not enter. Road closed. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02There's there's like signs behind signs. Yeah. Jeez. It's a lot happening here. Someone they have like one person in charge of signs, and so they're just going for it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02This is all it's like, this is my job. We're gonna do it all.
SPEAKER_01Get it all done. I only had to put them up.
SPEAKER_02Right? They put up signs because that's their job. So otherwise they're just doing nothing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. The next one is A falling car. It's a car. Looks like it's going off a cliff. I don't know.
SPEAKER_02What is the person on the left on the road? Are they on a bicycle?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he's on a bicycle. So the car is like it's on a diamond shape.
SPEAKER_02It's typical yellow. Yeah, typical yellow yellow.
SPEAKER_01The car is looks like it's like launching off the road. I don't know. Next we have stop. Stop sign. Underneath it says four-way. And underneath it is a stop sign, shaped sign, but smaller, that says stop, stop, stop, stop, stop, please. And there's a cop sitting in the background.
SPEAKER_02They have a real problem. The stop. Even the poll is red. They've done everything they can to try and get people to stop. I wonder if it's like just one person, or is this like the whole anyone driving down this road is just blowing through like it didn't used to be a four-way and people are not paying attention. What TV show was that? Where they kept running the stop sign, like the whole series. The 80s. What's that one? The Goldbergs. Right? Like always in their stationers and they're always blowing through that stop sign at the end of their road. Yeah. Even then the kids did it too when they learned to drive.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. The next one has a guy painting a crosswalk, and he has painted stop wrong as well.
SPEAKER_02That's a tough one, you know? Stop and stop to They're close.
SPEAKER_01This seems to be quite difficult.
SPEAKER_02That's what the other one said too, right?
SPEAKER_01Sotp.
SPEAKER_02Yep. You know, S and O just go so well together.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02What is happening?
SPEAKER_01This one has a guy that looks like he's on a raft and it looks like sharks are near him. And it has like a circle with a line through it. So don't use your raft in the water with the sharks. I don't I don't know.
SPEAKER_02See, this is where you need to come more prepared. This sign means are those fossils? And it's telling you not to pick up fossils. Is that what those are? I have no idea. Those are like little teeth.
SPEAKER_01I don't know. I thought it looked like shark.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's a very specific sign. It means nothing to us, but someone somewhere knows. And they know not to do it because it's got a line through it.
SPEAKER_01Oh, there you go. No, I just wrote it's a clear one. Oh, you wrote that. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Wood raff with sharks. Like I said, very specific sign.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Next one has that dude's having fun. A square sign that's yellow. It looks like a rainbow kind of, but only like two stripes. So maybe like a hill. And this guy on a motorcycle looks like he's flying off of it while he's going up the rainbow. I don't know what's happening.
SPEAKER_02I want to say that it's a turn and he's having fun riding the turn, but yeah. That things have gone awry. He's flying off. Maybe getting pulled up through like a tractor beam, UFO, getting sucked up.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I don't know, because that's a yep, that's a strange one.
SPEAKER_01The next one, there is a stop sign on the left with the word stop. And on the right has a witch on a broom. A stop line.
SPEAKER_02That's where they stop.
SPEAKER_01Yep. Witches on the right, cars on the left.
SPEAKER_02See? I want to know more about these. Because like we what's beneath the witch, too.
SPEAKER_01It looks like maybe a number four.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. The number four witch? Is this in like a I don't know, universal or something? Can you zoom in on like any of those signs in the background? Let's do some detective work. Enhance. Enhance? Enhance.
SPEAKER_01As much as it goes.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah, you barely zoomed in at all. You can't read those. I don't see any witches either, though.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I don't know. Alright, next. Beware. Wild animals slash children.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Wild children do be dangerous. No rules. No one's taught them any manners.
SPEAKER_01You should have just let me start silver and I could have done a different one and fix this one.
SPEAKER_02No, you're fine.
SPEAKER_01Alright, the next one has turn right to go left sign.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Lightning McQueen. Sometimes you gotta turn left to go right.
SPEAKER_01Do not block intersection.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but don't block the intersection because people would be sliding around, whipping it. Turn left to go right. That's that would confuse if my mom were driving. She sees that sign. She is not gonna go right. Turn left to go right.
SPEAKER_01Next one is zombies ahead on a road construction like sign where they Yeah, like at night. Yeah, where they type in the message.
SPEAKER_02I wonder if people like hack those, or if there's just like very simple like the logins like user or admin and the passwords like zero zero zero zero or something. Because I see stuff like this often.
SPEAKER_01I wondered if they did like a parade, like a Halloween parade or something, so they did this.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah, that'd be cool.
SPEAKER_01Next one is mosquito carrying a man. Dang!
SPEAKER_02Jurassic Park.
SPEAKER_01Some big mosquitoes in this place.
SPEAKER_02I wonder what this is from. Do you think it's from a movie?
SPEAKER_01Mm-hmm. Let me look it up.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Giant mosquito sign. Mosquito. Are they just like m poking fun at like big mosquitoes? Right. Because some places have big mosquitoes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Canada.
SPEAKER_02Another Canada one? Do you guys not have real signs up there? They're all just fake, funny signs?
SPEAKER_01In Hamlet of Uppsala on the west side of the Trans-Canada Hawai Highway, north of Shell Gas Station and south of Canop Gas Station. Anyways, I would that's interesting if Canada really has big mosquitoes. It's pretty cold there. Wouldn't a lot of them die?
SPEAKER_02No idea. I've never actually been to Canada.
SPEAKER_01Me neither. Seems too cold for me. The next one is a sign, another triangle one, with a man in a wheelchair heading down a hill straight towards an alligator.
SPEAKER_02I like the speed, the speed lines on the wheelchair.
SPEAKER_01He's really moving down that hill. And his mouth's open. I'm sure he's screaming. Help me. Angle the chair to hit the thing in the face. Oh, that was it.
SPEAKER_02That was it. Yep. That was quick.
SPEAKER_01And then these signs remind us that humor can show. Up in the most unexpected places, even on the side of the road.
SPEAKER_00Whether they were planned or just a lucky mistake, they've got something most signs never do. They actually get noticed. So next time you're driving, keep an eye out.
SPEAKER_01You never know when you'll spot another great one. There's a lot of ones you weren't expecting, huh?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. I think my favorite one was actually the turn left to go right one. Oh, really? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01My favorite was the guy in the wheelchair heading towards the crocodile. That's why it was last.
SPEAKER_00Remember, even a small act of kindness can be someone's beacon in their darkest moment. Choose kindness every day. Reach out to someone today. You have the power to change a life. Be the signal of hope this world needs to be a good idea.
