Welcome to the Cashley Show. We are Kevin and Ashley.
SPEAKER_00Hello.
SPEAKER_03We started this podcast after recent tragedies. Take a break from negativity and discover the good things happening all around us.
unknownEverywhere.
SPEAKER_00Isn't that like is that Dolby surround sound? We go to the movie theater.
SPEAKER_03I don't know. Is that everywhere? Yeah, maybe. Kind of like goes around theater. Yeah, it goes around the theater.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Guess I'm not as creative as I thought. Just stole it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Alright. First up, shout out.
SPEAKER_00Shout out.
SPEAKER_03You want to do this one?
SPEAKER_00No, you do it. I feel like I've done the last three.
SPEAKER_03Well, I do one you and one me each week.
SPEAKER_00I don't feel like that's true because I feel like I do them all. This is how I feel. Okay. These are my feelings. But you're feeling it. You can't tell me. You can't tell me what my feelings are.
SPEAKER_03Maybe those are your feelings, but you're actually wrong. Because I usually do the first one of the week and you do the second. But I ended up adding this episode in from what I was going to do, so I kind of mixed it up myself. So we'll do the shout-out today for don't grab my computer with your toes.
SPEAKER_00For my rules in this episode. Stop. Your feelings are wrong. Don't do that.
SPEAKER_03It's hard. It's hard for me to concentrate when your toes are on things and go on a race to the road. Alright. We're gonna do my dad.
SPEAKER_00Just kind of like my mom?
SPEAKER_03Sure.
SPEAKER_00Babies for a movie. Oh one of the best movies.
SPEAKER_03What? Home. My mom? Yeah, you're right. That is a good movie. Alright, so thanks for listening, Dad.
SPEAKER_00Thanks for listening, Dad.
SPEAKER_03Okay, today's Laffy Taffy is why does Snoop Dogg use an umbrella?
SPEAKER_00Something about drizzling.
SPEAKER_03For drizzle.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Good job, man.
SPEAKER_00It's been months since I've gotten one.
SPEAKER_03Today's episode is The Art of the Unexpected. Weird food pairings in the US.
SPEAKER_00Just US?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we'll do the other ones later.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_03So we're doing it because I've been watching videos of people visiting the US for the FIFA soccer tournament, and they've been trying American food for the first time. It's always fun to watch the videos of them trying the food and especially their reactions go from puzzled to delighted. So today we'll talk about some of those weird food combinations people eat in the US. Can you think of any before we start that are weird?
SPEAKER_00That I wouldn't think to do, but like after I hear it, totally like makes total sense. And I do like it. Putting salt in chocolate milk.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Right. I mean, salt and chocolate have been around for right forever. And like milk, cheese, right? Like butter. Like you get salted butter, cheese has salt in it. Yeah. So I mean, once you think about it, you're like, oh yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But I would never think like grabbing salt and like if I saw someone pour salt into any drink, like a glass of anything, but what are you doing?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. One of them that was on here that was kind of interesting was pizza and ranch. Like I just don't think of it as a weird combination.
SPEAKER_00Because it's been around your whole life.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Like even in elementary people did it. So I guess it's weird to some people. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00They were doing it in California when I was in high school and growing up too.
SPEAKER_03First up is avocado and chocolate milkshake.
SPEAKER_00Huh. Yeah, I wouldn't. Maybe it's kind of the same thing though, with like salt.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, maybe it makes it thicker.
SPEAKER_00Probably kind of like a banana.
SPEAKER_03I mean, I love avocado, but I just don't know what about it with chocolate.
SPEAKER_00Maybe it makes it kind of green too, so it's like mint chocolate chip.
SPEAKER_03But not.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03Alright, next one is ice cream and soy sauce. Ew.
SPEAKER_00This is an American.
SPEAKER_03It's a little salty.
SPEAKER_00What kind of ice cream?
SPEAKER_03I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Is it a certain flavor?
SPEAKER_03I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Because maybe I'm just thinking of is it gonna be chocolate? Some of the ones on here have been vanilla ice cream and soy sauce.
SPEAKER_03Pouring a few drops of soy sauce on vanilla ice cream is surprisingly delicious. A viral hack that tastes just like salted caramel. Huh. I'm not gonna try that. Why? Asiaki.
SPEAKER_00You're lame.
SPEAKER_03That's true. We should do an episode where we try weird foods, you and I.
SPEAKER_00It would be so short because you wouldn't try anything.
SPEAKER_03I would try it, but I would probably hate everything. Alright, next one is salt and apples.
SPEAKER_00I don't think I've done I've done salt on tomato, like cut a tomato in half and salt it.
SPEAKER_03I did we did salt on cantaloupe sometimes growing up.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we did watermelon.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, people do watermelon that was on here. I don't think I did it. I think it was that different.
SPEAKER_00Because again, it's not that weird to you.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, no. The salt on apples is interesting.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I've never heard that before? Mm-hmm. Peanut butter and apples.
SPEAKER_03Mm-hmm. And I'd never heard of that until I met you. It's just like a r a regular snack in your family. And I was like, what? Sonny. Uh next one is peanut butter and eggs. So like what? Put it like peanut butter in your omelet or yeah.
SPEAKER_00I don't know.
SPEAKER_03But you like peanut butter.
SPEAKER_00I do. I also like eggs. Logic says you'll like them together. I don't know. Just like I would have to that's gonna look gross too.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Because the peanut butter is gonna be all like melted from the eggs.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, like peanut butter honey toast. So good. Yep. I ate them all the time with our middle kid when I was pregnant with him. All the time. That was my breakfast every morning. It's good stuff. Melty peanut butter.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah. And that's why like I'm just thinking about eggs. Like runny eggs are the most disgusting thing in the world. So I'm just thinking like, if I have peanut butter that's like melted, like I'm gonna take a bite of egg and there's gonna be this like runny, like thick mush thing, I'll probably throw up. I don't taste a lot of stuff, so texture goes a long way.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, texture's big for Kevin. Alright, next is French fries dipped in honey.
SPEAKER_00I'll just dip it in a frosty. I'm not gonna waste the fries. Putting them in honey.
SPEAKER_03That was on here, but I didn't put it down. Fries and ice cream.
SPEAKER_00Yep.
SPEAKER_03It's very normal as well.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and I I did see a video, maybe it was with you, of someone like a Brit or something, someone from the UK or whatever doing that. Yeah. Maybe it was Australia. I don't know.
SPEAKER_03People think it's so weird when they try it. It's weirdly amazing.
SPEAKER_00Yep. Chocolate, salt, and potato.
SPEAKER_03I like vanilla best.
SPEAKER_00You like the vanilla frosty with the fries the best?
SPEAKER_03Mm-hmm. I generally like vanilla ice cream better, but Costco does have a good chocolate ice cream and vanilla ice cream. But when they're you get the mix, it just tastes like chocolate.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, right. Overpowers.
SPEAKER_03Alright, next is apples and grilled cheese. So apple slices in your grilled cheese sandwich, Kev?
SPEAKER_00I mean. I've heard of people putting like cheese on apple pie.
SPEAKER_03That's later on, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah. So like a slice of cheese. So this is imagining the same thing. And I haven't done that either. Yeah. But I imagine it's the same thing.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Because at first I was like, oh, but you'd have hot apple. And I was like, I love apple pie. Those apples are hot.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Interesting. Next one is lemon sorbet and peanut butter cup. I just don't think I would like lemon and chocolate and peanut butter. Yeah. Lemon, chocolate, lemon, peanut butter, sample sound gross.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I'll pass. I mean, I'll try it. If someone's gonna give me one, I'll try it. I'm not gonna go spend my own hard-earned money.
SPEAKER_03Trying weird stuff.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and trying lemons and peanut butter.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. How about strawberries and balsamic vinegar?
SPEAKER_00I would probably like that. I do like balsamic vinegar. Like I put it on like my steak salads and like all sorts of stuff. I do like the zing, the tang.
SPEAKER_03I guess you should put some slice up some strawberries on your steak salad.
SPEAKER_00Because isn't there a salad that has like sliced strawberries in it, but it's like a green salad?
SPEAKER_03It weirds me out, so I don't make it.
SPEAKER_00What is it normally chicken though? Is it like a chicken?
SPEAKER_03I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I d I just don't know about strawberries and lettuce together.
SPEAKER_00I was gonna say fruit and meat, but I mean there's lots of things. Like pineapple goes great with like basically all meats.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Next is balsamic and ice cream.
SPEAKER_00I don't know.
SPEAKER_03Like vanilla ice cream.
SPEAKER_00Vanilla ice cream and balsamic vinegar like vinaigrette, like the same. I when I have an ice cream, I don't want a zippy thing.
SPEAKER_03Maybe you would like it though.
SPEAKER_00I might.
SPEAKER_03You might. You like some weird stuff. Yeah, it's true. Next one is honey and pizza.
SPEAKER_00I've had like I've had honey, like honey barbecue chicken, and like honey different stuff, pizzas.
SPEAKER_03So time for a game.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_03This is a riddle. Who has married many women but was never married?
SPEAKER_00The what would it be, like the pasture or the did I say pasture?
SPEAKER_03Like a bake field.
SPEAKER_00A pastor. Okay. Yeah, like a pastor or a bishop or yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yep. Good job, Kim.
SPEAKER_00A man of the cloth.
SPEAKER_03Two for two.
SPEAKER_00Yes. I'm amazing today.
SPEAKER_03You are. Next is must see what I'm wearing. Alright, next is strawberries in a warm cheese sauce.
SPEAKER_00I mean, did someone do this on accident when they heard about like fondue? Like it was meant to be. It's like a fondue. Right. That's that's what I'm thinking. Like, yeah. But if you don't know about chocolate fondue, like you're like, okay. Like this is what they said to do, and then you eat it, and you're like, oh, it's not bad.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I wouldn't try that. That seems yeah.
SPEAKER_00What about like nacho cheese sauce? Because that's different than like uh cheese fondue, right?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. But like even nacho cheese is like a little spicy, and then you have strawberry. Uh-huh. Yep.
SPEAKER_00So you got some heat with the sweet. Call that the sweet heat.
SPEAKER_03Skip over the one Kevin already said. What is it? What was it? Cheddar cheese and apple pie. Oh. So I think this is baked back east.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think so. Like I think in probably like Northeast, like New England area. I like Dutch apple pie. That's one that's like the crumble stuff on top, right?
SPEAKER_01Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_00So I think the cheese apple pie is like a regular apple pie with like the crust on top and stuff like that. Because the Dutch apple pie, right, has like all the like the cinnamon sugar crumbs and all those things up top. And like cinnamon and cheese.
SPEAKER_02But the apple pie has cinnamon in it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And sugar.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And butter.
SPEAKER_00And then maybe I'm just thinking that it has like more. Because it's got all the crumble up top.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Yeah. I think it sounds not great. Well put. Some people love it, and that's great. We all love different things. That's okay. Next is cucumbers dipped in honey.
SPEAKER_00I've never had them in honey. I had them in like vinegar.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Which I like.
SPEAKER_03Mm-hmm. And ranch.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, of course. Ranch. Sour cream dip. Yeah. I don't know if I I don't know. I feel like the bees have gotten and kind of shafted the last 20 years or so.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So I feel bad eating their honey. Like we've turned them into like slaves.
SPEAKER_03We use honey a lot at our house.
SPEAKER_00I know, but every time I eat it, I'm always just like, sorry, bee. You worked so hard to make this, and then and then you died, and then I ate it. I guess it's just like every other animal.
SPEAKER_03It's gonna die anyways, so it's okay. Alright. Next hot sauce and ice cream.
SPEAKER_00People just getting bored with ice cream because there's like a thousand flavors of ice cream. You don't have to buy just vanilla and then put different stuff on it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Just buy ice cream with stuff in it. Different flavors. Yeah. There's lots of them.
SPEAKER_03I don't think I would like this. I don't really like hot things.
SPEAKER_00No, that's because you're like a super taster.
SPEAKER_03So hot sauce and ice cream sounds echo.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I mean, again, that's a sweet heat, but kind of different.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Next one is tomato and sugar.
SPEAKER_00So what does when you do like strawberry shortcake, don't you like cut up strawberries and then put sugar? And doesn't it like makes like a brings the juices out? Yeah. Would that be the same thing?
SPEAKER_03But do you but you because you have to let the strawberry sit for a while.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So I don't know, are you letting this the tomato sit with the sugar or are you just sprinkling it on like you would salt and then eating it?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I imagine that's what you would do. But I don't know.
SPEAKER_03I guess if you buy a tomato from a store, it is a more bitter tasting. But if you grow it in your garden, it's not bitter if you pick it when it's ripe. So I don't know. I don't know. Maybe maybe it just helps people like the flavor of it.
SPEAKER_00Because it's America and we have to have sugar on everything. In everything and in everything.
SPEAKER_03Next one. A nice juicy hamburger.
SPEAKER_00With potato chips.
SPEAKER_03Peanut butter.
SPEAKER_00Stop it with the peanut butter already, people. Put it on apples and jam sandwich.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And pancakes.
SPEAKER_03I like a hamburger with barbecue sauce and onion rings and bacon. Peanut butter does not go on that.
SPEAKER_00Doesn't fit. Yeah. I like a good mushroom burger. Yeah. So I can't imagine peanut butter and mushroom gravy.
SPEAKER_03Sounds yucky. Sweet mushrooms. Next one is avocado and sugar. Also kind of weird.
SPEAKER_00Right. I mean, you're just sweetening all these vegetables. Avocado. Like the doctor told you to eat more vegetables. Okay, you're just like sprinkling sugar on it.
SPEAKER_03It's not bad. Now that I have sugar on it, I love tomatoes and avocados, so I don't know why you want to change them. I think they're great. This one. Green apple and salsa. Oh. I dislike green apples. Yeah, I like Fuji's. Those are our favorite. Honey crisp crisp. Yeah, he likes the more bitter. We like the more sweet.
SPEAKER_00It doesn't taste bitter to me.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. It's sour.
SPEAKER_00Oh, the green apples? Or honey crisp?
SPEAKER_03Well, honey crisp still gives me like the little like my jaw hurts because it's got a little tang. Yeah, okay. I don't like that.
SPEAKER_00But that's not bitter.
SPEAKER_03It is bitter. Well, not like not like you're right sour. But when I make carameled apples, we use fooji's and honey crisp, never green apples.
SPEAKER_00But isn't that the whole point? It's like you have that carel that's like the sweet part. Nope. And then you have the apple that's like sour tangy.
SPEAKER_03I don't like it. Yeah. So we never use them. I never use them.
SPEAKER_00I never get to enjoy them.
SPEAKER_03You get honey crisps out of it. So it's good enough.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but they're not that sour to me.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00In our episode about food, didn't we discover that like the granny smiths were like one of or and red delicious? Like those two were like the best.
SPEAKER_03The worst apples are the best? Yep. Yes. Okay. The worst tasting things are the best for you.
SPEAKER_00Well, maybe you need to try Granny Smiths with some salsa.
SPEAKER_03No, I'm not doing that. That's yucky. The next one is tuna and olives. So in the picture, this had green olives. Yeah. I don't really know if it matters because the way it sounds. Not great. I like tuna and pickles. Yeah. I like tuna and pickles.
SPEAKER_00Right, that's more classic.
SPEAKER_03Kevin will ate tuna with melted cheese, which I think is weird too.
SPEAKER_00I only did that because this is just like the whole cheese fondue thing, like strawberries and because like you were like, Do you want we were making grilled cheese? And you're like, Do you want a tuna? I was like, Yeah, I guess. Or like I made, or like you guys made tuna ones, and so I was making my own or something. And I was like, You guys made them with tuna? And you're like, Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_03Whatever you say. I think you made one for the kids. I think it was Jack, and he was like, I don't want this.
SPEAKER_00It's a tuna grilled cheese, that's what you asked for.
SPEAKER_03Tuna and grilled cheese. We do both. And we also, it might be on here. I don't remember if I put it on here. We'll just say it now. On here it does tuna and ketchup, which sounds gross. But we do tuna and or grilled cheese and tomato soup, which is the best thing ever. But ketchup, eh.
SPEAKER_00If you had some water to ketchup, don't you have tomato soup?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, well, I don't love the taste of just ketchup though. It's a different flavor than tomato soup.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. The vinegar and the sugars and the preservatives. Alright, time for Cashley's take. Kevin?
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_03Do you prefer waffles or pancakes?
SPEAKER_00Pancakes.
SPEAKER_03I prefer waffles.
SPEAKER_00You can't put peanut butter on waffles.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, then it's all melty in your little square.
SPEAKER_00No, it's too much.
SPEAKER_03Oh. I hate, hate making pancakes.
SPEAKER_00Well, it's so it's the easiest thing in the world. You dip the thing.
SPEAKER_03I break them.
SPEAKER_00You turn it and it's like all the time. And then it cooks and then you flip it.
SPEAKER_03No, you pour it in the waffle iron and you flip that and then it cooks it and beeps when it's done and you just scoop it out. Easy. Pancakes are pretty easy too. No, they're not. I cannot handle them. Alright, next is chocolate and potato chips.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I've heard this. And I've done like peanut butter M or peanut MMs and popcorn when we go to the movies.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that's what it was saying.
SPEAKER_00Basically the same thing.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
unknownYeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Both seem kind of weird to me.
SPEAKER_00Sweet. Sweet and salty.
unknownNext one.
SPEAKER_00I just need to hit myself with like a sour patch kids or one of those straws to get the sour.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Sweet, salty, sour.
SPEAKER_03Alright. Next one is watermelon and balsamic. Balsamic.
SPEAKER_00Balsamic vinegarette. Vinegar. Balsamic and vinegar.
SPEAKER_03Vinegar. That sounds yakky.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I don't know. Just like watermelon with a little bit of salt on it is good. And generally just watermelon by itself.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, watermelon by itself. How about about watermelon and feta cheese?
SPEAKER_00No. Tast watermelon.
SPEAKER_03I don't care for the taste of feta. That's that's a little much for me. Kevin likes it.
SPEAKER_00Do I?
SPEAKER_03I thought you did like the feta cheese, like on a salad or something like that.
SPEAKER_00What's feta cheese?
SPEAKER_03The crumbly.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, I do like feta cheese.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Alright, next is cream cheese and olives.
SPEAKER_00Like green olives?
SPEAKER_03I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Because like black olives are good, but like I I'm trying to think where else I've eaten black olives besides like seven-layer bean dip.
SPEAKER_03So it has things with both. Like this one is like cream cheese stuffed black olives. This one's like some sort of sandwich with green olives and cream cheese.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I like green olives better. Like they're that the flavor of them, the I don't know.
SPEAKER_03I don't like green olives. What about banana and bacon?
SPEAKER_00Do you just like take a bite of each? Like, how do you combine those?
SPEAKER_03You hold the bacon against the banana and take a bite together? I don't know.
SPEAKER_00That seems like a lot of work.
SPEAKER_03Seems yucky. Next, or did that one? Peanut butter and mayo.
SPEAKER_00Are they cooking the banana? Because if you like because you people wrap bacon around stuff like all the time. And then don't they I think that's plantains though, not bananas, right? Those are different. People do like fried plantains.
SPEAKER_02This one does have it cooked and rolled up.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's that's what I was imagining, and now it's like that banana just seems like it is gonna be just mush. But I would imagine when you cook a banana, right, all of the carbs are gonna be like sugar, like caramelized.
SPEAKER_03Banana peel bacon?
SPEAKER_00Banana peel?
SPEAKER_03You're eating the banana peels?
SPEAKER_00I'm not. I I'll try banana bacon, but I don't know about banana peel bacon. Bananas are pretty awesome.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but the peel is yucky. Next is peanut butter and mayo.
SPEAKER_00I have heard about this. Or no, maybe not. Maybe this is like peanut. I'm thinking peanut butter and the marshmallow fluff.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00That's what I'm thinking of. Fluff or nutter? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Your daughter got that for her sandwich when she was in when we lived in Texas. Yep. I made it for lunch.
SPEAKER_00It's like more of a south food.
SPEAKER_03Yep. Alright, next one is peanut butter and pickle sandwich.
SPEAKER_00I don't think I would ever do it, but I get it.
SPEAKER_03I don't. That's yuck. Alright, next one is ham and cheese sandwich with jelly.
SPEAKER_00No.
SPEAKER_03Kevin said no to one. Alright, time for the old couple game. What is your first memory of your spouse?
SPEAKER_00Once upon a time was called the Newlywood game.
SPEAKER_03That was 20 years ago.
SPEAKER_00My first memory of you? You're pretty sure it was the first. You were at the pharmacy at the place where I worked. And you so like you walked in there and you went over to the pharmacy. And there was another guy that I worked with who liked you, but then I saw you at the farm. Well, I like her. And so then I talked to him, and he's like, Yeah, yeah, you can ask her out, or you can you can go for it, because I won't.
SPEAKER_03So anyways. Well, he didn't ask me out.
SPEAKER_00Well, I didn't ask you out, but I was flirting with you and working the angles. Yes. Which I wouldn't have done because he liked you.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So my first memory of Kevin is I was working at a bank and he was working in the store. And he was carrying a box that said fritole lays on it, and he was pretending like it was so heavy. And I saw him and I was like, Oh, it looks heavy. And then I looked at the box that said fritoleys, and I was just laughed.
SPEAKER_00You don't know. Have you lifted an entire box of chips?
SPEAKER_03No, but I don't think they were as heavy as you were making it seem.
SPEAKER_00I might have worked out earlier that day and my arms were tired. No, I'd seen you carry heavy. You start stacking them, those get heavy fat. Just think of all the chips that are in.
SPEAKER_03No, you were just being funny.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that wasn't heavy at all. I actually think they were empty. And we were using them as like backer. And so we took down a front end display and like we were taking them to the freezer for the storage to use again later. So I don't I don't even think they had chips in 'em. I think they were actually empty.
SPEAKER_03Kevin's funny.
SPEAKER_00Thanks.
SPEAKER_03Next one is for Kevin. Oh. Mayo and artichoke. Yeah. Yuck.
SPEAKER_00This is what I feel like this is what my family did.
SPEAKER_03It is what your family did.
SPEAKER_00And then when I met you, you forced me to use butter.
SPEAKER_03And then you were like, oh my gosh, this is amazing. Oh, well, you can use mayo. I'm not going to get it for you.
SPEAKER_00Well, then I'm not going to do it. What are we supposed to do? Warm it up till it's melty? I'm a lazy.
SPEAKER_03I don't know how to use mayo and artichoke.
SPEAKER_00No, you don't.
SPEAKER_03You mean to spread it over top?
SPEAKER_00You're going way too far with this.
SPEAKER_03Okay?
SPEAKER_00I feel like you're too heavily invested in artichokes and butter. You need to pull yourself back.
SPEAKER_03You're going to dip your your crab in mayo too.
SPEAKER_00Don't you tempt me. Gross. Put some soy sauce on it, some mayo, a little bit of peanut butter.
SPEAKER_03Yuck. No, not doing that. Alright, next is ice cream and popcorn.
SPEAKER_00I don't like, I mean, I'm not sure how I'm not sure how you're eating it. I'm imagining you're putting popcorn like in or on the ice cream.
SPEAKER_03And now it's like soggy. Yeah. Even if you do it on the spoon and you put like two kernels on your spoon that already has ice cream on it, it's gotta be soggy by the time it gets to your mouth, that bottom part.
SPEAKER_00And this is like there's so much work. Like, I mean, I guess this is like my two hands move all the time, so I guess it's not really that much work. But it's like I'm gonna eat a spoonful of ice cream, and now I gotta like like dainty I don't know, like prepare the ice cream.
SPEAKER_03That's funny. Also, I don't ever remember going to the pharmacy at that store.
SPEAKER_00You did?
SPEAKER_03No memory of it.
SPEAKER_00It's because I saw you outside of your work clothes. That was the first time I saw you, I think, outside your work clothes. Because like you worked at the like I I don't have like a distinct memory before then, but I know that like I'd seen you or whatever, right? Before that, like walking to or from or being behind the counter. Whatnot? Yeah. So it was like the first time I saw you like in your native element.
SPEAKER_03And then you were like, Oh, she looks better not dressed up.
SPEAKER_00It's like dang's up, girl. How you doing? And I think you were wearing like some sort of boots or heels or something. Or no, maybe mostly just did that at work. So I always thought you were taller than you were. Like just every day you slapped on your I'm gonna lie to the world shoes. Came to work, tricked us all.
SPEAKER_03Some knee high boots. That's some big kills.
SPEAKER_00Yep. Made you like 5'6, 5'7 or something.
SPEAKER_03Yep, sorry. Not that tall. Alright, next is ketchup and ranch dressing.
SPEAKER_00It almost seems like fry sauce. Right. So maybe.
SPEAKER_03So I love fry sauce, but I don't love the sound of this. I don't know. I've actually moved on to burger sauce recently.
SPEAKER_00Burger sauce. That's just made up.
SPEAKER_03Giving up the fry sauce for burger sauce and dipping my tater tats and fries and burger sauce.
SPEAKER_00It's called burger sauce.
SPEAKER_03It's better.
SPEAKER_00You can dip your burger in it.
SPEAKER_03I did. When we had hamburgers last week, I did, and it was amazing. Kevin didn't have any with his hamburger, but but it was so good. Had onions and mushrooms and my burger sauce, and it was great.
SPEAKER_00Burger sauce just sounds made up.
SPEAKER_03It is. I did make it up.
SPEAKER_00Doesn't sound like a real thing.
SPEAKER_03Well, no. Other people use it, but anyways. Next. Zucchini and cinnamon. Nope. 100% no. Zucchini is good with butter, salt, pepper, garlic, and parmesan cheese on top. In a cake too. Or bread. But zucchini bites.
SPEAKER_00And now people are gonna think that you're putting zucchini spears.
SPEAKER_03So just zucchini as a side is only good with butter, salt, pepper, garlic, and parmesan cheese. But other types of zucchini is shredded into a cake or into bread. Right. Yeah. But I see no other way to eat zucchini besides those anyways.
SPEAKER_00Right. Yep. I agree.
SPEAKER_03Alright, next.
SPEAKER_00Next.
SPEAKER_03Sriracha. Ooh, I like sriracha. Peanut butter.
SPEAKER_00People. So unimaginative.
SPEAKER_03You should just guess peanut butter for all.
SPEAKER_00For all of everything. People just running around with tubs of peanut butter, putting it on things, tasting it. I'm disappointed.
SPEAKER_03Next is cottage cheese and potato chips.
SPEAKER_00I've heard of this. Like people like dipping it in on like the sour cream dips.
SPEAKER_03I feel like someone at the IRS did this, and I was like, nah, I can't do that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think it'd be fine.
SPEAKER_03Nah. Next one. Blueberries and steak. You put this on your steak salad, Kevin. I'm not a blueberry fan, so.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's true. You're not. I like blueberries quite a bit. And I I'm sure I've done this. Because I I will do like steak salads often, right? Like lay down a base of lettuce, different salads. And then I'll put all sorts of things on it. Pumpkin seeds, the what are the like it's like the bag that has all the different little like hemp seeds and different things in it. Balsama vinaigrette, green olives. Yeah, all sorts of stuff.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, you do lots of stuff.
SPEAKER_00There was in this when we were in Texas and we went down to what was like the beach town that we went to. Do you remember? Um Port? Is that what it was?
SPEAKER_03Port.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03No, we would go to the ports though.
SPEAKER_00So like we went down there, I think it was when your dad came down. We went down there and we stopped at like one of the little shops, right? There's like that little that little town that we would go to, right? There's like a little burger shop. We went there and it was the burger I had was had like a slice of cream cheese on it and like jalapeno jelly. And that was one of the best burgers I've ever had in my life. Also could have been that we spent an entire day at the beach and then I was starving when we got to that place. But like on a burger, like you bring you a burger and you have like cream cheese. Because it wasn't like super thin, but it also wasn't like a block of cream cheese. It was like a I don't know, eighth of an inch, quarter of an inch like slice. How many millimeters is that for people not in America?
SPEAKER_02I don't know.
SPEAKER_00What would that be?
SPEAKER_02I definitely don't know that.
SPEAKER_00I guess not, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Not a converter. You know, I do like uh the wild blueberries, those are good. Yeah, the littler ones. Yeah, the tiny ones. They have they actually have a good flavor.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I don't like the ones that you buy at like Costco and different stuff, like that you bring them in. I usually will pick through those. All all the ones that are like kind of big usually are not. I don't like them. Like I like the ones that are a little bit smaller and almost have like a little bit of like a hint of green on them still. So it's got some crunch and like the other ones just kind of tastes mushy and like overripe.
SPEAKER_03The frozen ones?
SPEAKER_00No, the like the one those ones that you buy. So the frozen ones always just end up in a smoothie, so you don't really buttons.
SPEAKER_03You can smell that they have more flavor than just regular blueberries.
SPEAKER_00Yep.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I don't I don't care for regular blueberries.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you for me, typically the bigger the blueberry, the less I'm going to like it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I think they all taste like that. Alright, next is Kevin's favorite peanut butter. Peanut butter and ramen.
SPEAKER_00Do you what? Okay. Are you cooking it or are they eating it dry and hard, but with peanut butter?
SPEAKER_03I think they're cooking it.
SPEAKER_00So then is the peanut butter, I mean I guess this could be like the what the Thai peanut sauce?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Ki yeah.
SPEAKER_00But you just putting in like what, like a tablespoon or two of peanut butter into ramen on the side?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, cooked ramen.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, now that's actually this is gonna this is almost like Masaman curry or something, or like a peanut curry. Dump some sriracha in there. Okay, I'm on board. I changed my mind.
SPEAKER_03July 23rd is National Lemon, Vanilla Ice Cream, and Gorgeous Grandma Day.
SPEAKER_00Oh, gorgeous grandma. All you gorgeous grandmas out there.
SPEAKER_03Mm-hmm. July 23rd is your day.
SPEAKER_00It like the whole idea of grandmas is fun, funny to me. Why? We'll just like you know, I'm on like the young end of like the family? Yeah, the cousins and all that stuff, right? So like when I think of grandma and grandpa, like they're old. Right. But like my older siblings, and then even cousins that were older than that, like grandma and grandpa were only like forty-five years old when they were born. Like they they knew a 50-year-old grandma and grandpa.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00Right? Like, so just like the idea of grandma and grandpa, I always think like, you know, the golden girls or something. Right. But I don't even know how old were the golden girls. Because Betty White seemed like she's been around till just like five years ago or something.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, she was almost a hundred.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay. But when was the golden girls? We've gone way off topic.
SPEAKER_01Yep, we sure have.
SPEAKER_00Wasn't that show in like the eighties? And so like they were grandmas back then, but I think they were only like fifty years old or something, right? Maybe that'd be like sixty.
SPEAKER_03Eighty-five to ninety-two. So, like the one lady has brown hair, but I mean you can obviously dye it because everyone does that. Their real life ages ranged from 51 to 63.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, right. Like, I mean, they're they weren't that old.
SPEAKER_03They were written to be anywhere from 53 to 80.
SPEAKER_00Hmm. Like the oldest one? Blanche? I don't know the name.
SPEAKER_03No, Blanche is the brown haired one. Oh. But the w she was only 63 and she was being portrayed as 80.
SPEAKER_00Katie.
SPEAKER_03That's a that's a rough one. Okay, back to this. Alright. Pickles and ice cream.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Next one you might like. Okay. Hot chocolate and cayenne pepper. Hmm.
SPEAKER_00May yeah, maybe. Because I do there was something was like spicy chocolate. And I think it was like what maybe like Lindor's or there's another company that makes like those chocolate bars that have like the different things. And I think one was like cayenne. Had like just a little bit of cayenne pepper. So like it was chocolate, and then like this just a little bit of heat. That was pretty good.
SPEAKER_03Well, yes, you do like it. Alright, next one is frying chicken in Coke. Coca-Cola. I don't I don't think I would like that.
SPEAKER_00How how do you fry it in Coca-Cola?
SPEAKER_03I don't know, instead of like a milk base, like when you dip it, you do it in Coke. Or if it's like soaked before in like Coke instead of milk. But just seems like milk helps keep it like moist. I don't know that Coke would do that. Or if like it's poured in I don't know. Let me see.
SPEAKER_00Seems like the Coke would partially digest it. Right? Isn't Coke terrible don't they use Coke to like clean toilets and blood stains on the pavement?
SPEAKER_03Blood stains on a pavement.
SPEAKER_00I'm pretty sure that's what they did when uh like my CSI classes talking about stuff. Like yeah, they like they pour open up coke, pour it on once they like are done.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I think my dad said like drinking a bunch of coke if you have like a kidney stone or something. I guess it'll dissolve it. Yeah, I think you have to drink like a lot in a short amount of time. I don't know if I could do that. So it is used as a tenderizing brine before frying. Right.
SPEAKER_00So that's basically what I'm saying. Like it's like breaking down. Yeah. It's dissolving the meat.
SPEAKER_03Yuck. Anyways. Next cottage cheese and mustard.
SPEAKER_00Huh. That actually went a different direction. I like mustard.
SPEAKER_03I don't.
SPEAKER_00I don't think I would like it.
SPEAKER_03Nope. I got three more.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_03Peanut butter. And bacon.
SPEAKER_00Well, yeah, that's fine. Sounds great. Would you just throw a banana in there while you're at it?
SPEAKER_03Next one is ice cream and black pepper.
SPEAKER_00What? So vanilla ice cream? Is that almost like the was it like the French vanilla? Vanilla bean? Is that what they maybe it's not black pepper, but it has little black things in it. Is that just vanilla bean? That's like not fully ground up.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's like the vanilla bean, but black pepper would have a totally different and the last one's kind of dumb, so I won't do that one.
SPEAKER_00Hmm. No, it's all I want to know and think about.
SPEAKER_03What's dumb? Egg whites and ketchup. Like, meh, that's normal.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I've had ketchup on eggs since I was a little kid.
SPEAKER_03I tell our kids, Mike, you don't need ketchup. I put eggs and garlic and salt and pepper, Mike, and cheese and cheese curds. I'm like, your eggs taste fine. They taste amazing.
SPEAKER_00That's just kids, don't rude. Didn't you make like a ketchup sandwich or something when you were little? No. Someone did. Someone in your family did.
SPEAKER_03It's not me.
SPEAKER_00Well, it's my family.
SPEAKER_03I try to tell the kids. They always try to put ketchup on their steak. I'm like, just try it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03It's such a smoked it for hours. Like, it has good flavor. You don't need ketchup. All you taste is ketchup.
SPEAKER_00Ketchup is like such a little kid condiment.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Alright. Whether you love trying new foods or prefer to stick to the classics, these quirky American food combinations show that taste is personal. Sometimes the strangest pairings are the ones you remember most. Next time you feel adventurous, try one of these unusual duos. You might find a new favorite flavor.
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna try pickles and vanilla ice cream.
SPEAKER_03Okay, let us know how it goes next time.
SPEAKER_00I will.
SPEAKER_03Okay. Kevin, would you rather?
SPEAKER_00You love these. I do. You such a would you rather girl?
SPEAKER_03Would you rather speak any language or be able to communicate with animals?
SPEAKER_00Oh, this is maybe the best would you rather you've ever asked me.
SPEAKER_03I'd rather communicate with animals.
SPEAKER_00I think I also would go that one, but only because no one else can do it.
SPEAKER_03I want to know what they know. Can they talk to each other?
SPEAKER_00Well, what if it's like the dog on up and it's just like there's a bunch of dumb, dumb stuff. Then would it feel like such a waste? Like if every dog was basically the dog from up and giraffes were Ross from Friends.
SPEAKER_03Isn't he the giraffe?
SPEAKER_00Uh huh. Yeah, and uh whatever those the Africa what are those movies?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, right. Alright, do you want to talk to zebras and that's all they say to you? Penguins of Madagascar. No.
SPEAKER_00So it's just Madagascar then?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, Madagascar. Okay. Anything else from you?
SPEAKER_00Wait. Is it only earthbound languages? Can I speak alien?
SPEAKER_03It said any language.
SPEAKER_00Okay, I changed my answer.
SPEAKER_03Any language alien?
SPEAKER_00Yep.
SPEAKER_03I still choose animals. Alright. Remember, even a small act of kindness can be someone's beacon in their darkest moment. Choose kindness every day. Reach out to someone today. You have the power to change a life. Be the signal of hope this world needs.
SPEAKER_00Just in case there's any aliens listening and you need someone to abduct. I'm down for a ride. No, he's not. Well, they bring most of them back.
SPEAKER_03What if you're the one they don't? We have kids, and what if it alters you? Makes you crazy.
SPEAKER_00Alters me. Makes you crazy. You can't alter this. Look at this. How come this?
SPEAKER_03Look at this so strong man. What if they perform a lobotomy and now you're crazy?
SPEAKER_00What if they give me the ability to speak to animals?
SPEAKER_03What if they make you crazy? He doesn't volunteer for things. Now he doesn't.
SPEAKER_00She doesn't speak for me.
SPEAKER_03Yes, I do.
SPEAKER_00I'm going for a ride in space.
