Welcome back This Reading Mama’s podcast! We're thankful you're joining us as we've been exploring the covenants of the Bible.

Today, we're talking about The New Covenant. This is an unconditional and eternal covenant made with Israel. It is first introduced in Jeremiah 31:31-34. The good news with this covenant is that Gentiles are partakers of this covenant, as we have been grafted in through the blood of Jesus. Hallelujah!

In this mini-series, we have covered seven covenants of the Bible:

Understanding these covenants helps us all to not only see how God's Word is connected as one Story, but it also allows us to see the attributes of God. In these covenants, we see His faithfulness, goodness, love, righteousness, and justice and how they all fit perfectly together.

Lastly, these covenants help us to see how God wants a relationship with you and me. He doesn't need us, but that's what makes His love towards us even more significant!

Welcome back to this Reading Mamas podcast. I am Becky. I'm Amy. Thank you all for joining us again. And today we are on part five, and it should be our final, I think so. Our final episode of Covenants of the Bible, which was originally a part three series. Right.

SPEAKER_00

So today we're going to talk about a new covenant called the New Covenant. It is unconditional and eternal, and it was made with Israel, also known as Jacob. Other names for the new covenant that you'll see throughout Scripture are Everlasting Covenant, New Heart and New Spirit, Covenant of Peace, and also My Covenant.

SPEAKER_01

The scripture references really are everywhere. Like we said, with the Davidic covenant and the Abrahamic covenant. These are the ones we specifically pulled out that you are welcome to read, but I do want to read the first one, Jeremiah 31, 31 through 34, because this is where it is specifically called the new covenant. Look, the days are coming. This is the Lord's declaration, when I will make a new covenant. So there it is. With the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. And just like Amy was saying on the slide before, it was made with Israel and Judah. At this point in Israel's history, we have the divided kingdom. Israel in the north, Judah in the south. But he's making it with both. This one will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors on the day I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt. So that would be the Mosaic covenant. My covenant that they broke even though I am their master. The Lord's Declaration. Instead, this is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days, the Lord's declaration. I will put my teaching within them and write it on their hearts. I will be their God and they will be my people. No longer will one teach his neighbor or his brother, saying, Know the Lord, for they will all know me, from the least to the greatest of them. This is the Lord's declaration. For I will forgive their iniquity and never again remember their sin. So when we talk about this passage in Jeremiah 31, what are the specific promises of this new covenant? Well, first, God is going to put his teaching in their minds and he's going to write it on their hearts. God is going to be their God. They'll have no need or desire for idols. He will be their one true God and they will be his people. They will all know him. That's pretty cool because in scripture you see a lot of times with the Jews, there's a remnant. But here it says they will all know him. And then lastly, there will be forgiveness of sin. He will remember their sins no more.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And I think it's pretty cool where it says they will all know him. Not only because the entire population of Israel will at that time know him, but they won't have to teach anymore. So you won't have leaders in like a synagogue or anything.

SPEAKER_01

So we put together a little visual. So if you're listening to the podcast, you may want to hop over to YouTube or Rumble so you can see it. We'll also put this visual in the podcast plus membership for today's episode. But we want to start with the visual here. We have Jeremiah, what we just read this, Jeremiah 31, 31 through 34, which is the new covenant with Israel that is promised.

SPEAKER_00

And then the promise comes through what we've gone through in the other covenants, that promised seed, which is Jesus. Jesus comes, he comes as the Messiah, he calls Israel to follow him, but they reject him. And uh we see in Luke 22, 20, Jesus is with his disciples, and he says, In the same way after the supper, he took the cup, saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood which is poured out for you. So this is confirmation for us of how we link the promise to Israel and how it is, how it's beginning or being initiated through the blood of Jesus. Yes.

SPEAKER_01

And then in Hebrews 10 10, it says, By this will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all time. And then we really wanted to put a star on here that said, You are here, like you would see on a map. But this is where we are in the timeline of history. The Gentiles are now partakers of the new covenant. We have been grafted into the new covenant. Amy's going to read Ephesians 3, 6.

SPEAKER_00

This mystery is that through the gospel, which is the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, and Romans 11 is a fantastic passage. Really, Romans 9, 10, and 11 really fleshes out. Paul fleshes out this concept of the Jews rejecting and the Gentiles now being partakers and grafted into the new covenant. So Romans 11, 17 through 19 is what I'm going to read when I find it. Okay, here we go. Now some of the branches were broken off, and you, though a wild olive branch, were grafted in among them, and you have come to share in the rich root of the cultivated olive tree. Do not boast that you are better than those branches, but if you do boast, you do not sustain the root, but the root sustains you. Then you will say, Branches were broken off, so that I might be grafted in. So in this passage, we see the natural branches of this olive tree. Those that's Israel. And these wild olive branches that he mentions, those are the Gentiles. We have been grafted into that root. It's beautiful.

SPEAKER_00

And then once we get through this stage of history, it will be the fullness of the Gentiles. This is where Israel mourns, for they recognize that they crucified the Savior. And upon their mourning, then Jesus will return. And Romans 11 25 is one of the verses we have. Becky's gonna read that.

SPEAKER_01

I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you will not be conceited. A partial hardening has come upon Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles.

SPEAKER_00

And then in Zechariah 12 10, it says, And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn child. And then I also wanted to kind of harmonize the Old Testament with the New Testament and a prophecy that Daniel made in Daniel chapter 2. This is at the time where King Nebuchadnezzar is ruling. He has a dream of a statue, and Daniel he interprets this dream for him. So he says the different parts of the statue are representing different kingdoms. Right now it's at the head where King Nebuchadnezzar is reigning, but at the end of those different kingdoms, that would be the end of the Gentiles, the time of the Gentiles. It says, in the time of those kings, I'm starting in verse 44, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will crush all those kingdoms and bring them to an end, but it will itself endure forever. This is the meaning of the vision of the rock, cut out of a mountain, but not by human hands, a rock that broke the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold to pieces. And if you remember, the last episode was about, well, not the last one, but the one before that. I don't remember the number. Fifteen, maybe? The Davidic Covenant.

SPEAKER_01

That would be, I think, 15.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Where we talked about this kingdom, this reign that will endure forever. I think it was 14. Okay. 14 or 15. The one that's the Davidic covenant. So anyway, it's just, it kind of brings it all together. And I think that's really cool.

SPEAKER_01

And then this leads us into the new covenant where it's going to be fulfilled. Jeremiah 31, 31 through 34 that I read at the beginning is echoed again many places, but in Ezekiel 34, 25 through 31, we see a lot of that same language pulled back in to talk about how the new covenant will be fulfilled with Israel.

SPEAKER_00

So we went through all the covenants of the Bible, and there are aspects of these covenants that have yet to be fulfilled. So what Becky in the graphic that she showed, it says that it will be fulfilled when Jesus returns, and Israel will be in their land. So Israel accepts Christ, Christ returns, and then the aspects of the other covenants that were yet to be fulfilled come into fulfillment at this time. Like a domino effect. Right. I'm doing that with my hands. So first the Israelites accept Jesus. He is the one that they crucify, the savior of the world. Jesus comes back, he establishes his kingdom on earth. Then the Israelites take possession of the land that was promised back in Genesis 15, 18, also mentioned in Exodus 23, 31. David is also given a position of authority in this kingdom. You see that in Ezekiel 34, 23 through 24. And then there was the prophecy that Satan would be crushed in that post-fall covenant. We saw that was partially fulfilled when Jesus died on the cross. He defeated sin. But in Revelation 20, 10, it says that Satan is cast into the lake of fire to be tormented forever. That one actually is not in the Millennial Kingdom. It actually happens after the Millennial Kingdom when there's the army, the Battle of Armageddon, right? They prepare for that. Yeah. Right. And then after that, he's thrown into the lake of fire, and we have the new heaven and the new earth. Woohoo!

SPEAKER_01

I can't wait. So if you are a podcast plus member, we have lots of goodies in there. They're piling up. I mean, I don't even have them all on this slide here, but we've got four of the Bible reading plans, guided notes, transcripts. And you know, you can go on YouTube and you can get transcripts of videos, but they're not nearly as good as ours. Ours are polished, things are spelled right, nothing's confusing about them. AI's got nothing over us. That's right. And then it's also got visuals. So when we create visuals for the slides, they're gonna go into the podcast. So if you're teaching or you're wanting to learn along with us, you'll have everything you need right there. So let's be determined as Ezra to read, do, and tell the word of the Lord. Amen.

SPEAKER_00

Lord, thank you for the opportunity that we have to read your word and know you more. Thank you for allowing us to renew our minds and strengthen our knowledge of who you are. Father, I pray that this podcast would glorify you in all that we say. May your Holy Spirit guide our thoughts and our words for your glory.
