Meet the Host: Dr. Mike LoSasso, Chief of Staff at Frisco Emergency Pet Care

Need help when your pet needs it most? We sit down with Dr. Mike LoSasso, Chief of Staff at Frisco Emergency Pet Care, to unpack how a true 24-7 veterinary ER operates, what problems walk through the door at 2 a.m., and how you can make faster, safer decisions for your dog or cat. From GI upsets like vomiting and diarrhea to the all-too-common ingestion of medications, toxins, and socks, we break down what constitutes an emergency, what information to have ready, and why calling ahead can speed triage and treatment.

You’ll hear why this hospital focuses strictly on urgent and critical care for dogs and cats, skipping wellness visits to concentrate staff, equipment, and protocols on time-sensitive cases. Dr. Mike explains the referral network with local general practices, how first-time clients often find help through Google, and what sets a locally led emergency team apart in a landscape shaped by large corporate hospitals. The goal is simple: deliver clear access, consistent communication, and patient-first decisions every hour of the day, holidays included.

We also share practical prep tips you can use now. Save the clinic’s number, bookmark the website, and keep a quick-reference card with your pet’s weight, medications, and microchip. If ingestion is suspected, grab the packaging or a photo of the label before you head out. For owners in North Dallas, the contact details and address are included so help is one tap away. Subscribe for the upcoming FAQs episode, share this with a fellow pet owner, and leave a review to help more families find reliable 24-7 emergency vet care when minutes matter.

Meet The Hosts

SPEAKER_00

Welcome everyone. I'm Sofia Yvette, co-host and producer here in the studio with Dr. Mike Losaso, Chief of Staff at Frisco Emergency Pet Care. Dr. Mike, how are you today?

SPEAKER_02

I'm doing great, Sophia. How are you doing?

SPEAKER_00

I am also doing great. Now, over the years, you've grown a remarkable following. However, some listeners might not be familiar with your full journey. Let's take it from the top. Could you share a little background about your company and what you do?

What The Hospital Does

SPEAKER_02

Sure. We've got a 24-7 uh veterinary hospital that is dedicated to injured or sick dogs and cats. We've had to limit uh we send exotics elsewhere, but we do see uh do see dogs and cats really only for sick issues, though. We don't do any uh wellness or general preventative medicine.

SPEAKER_00

Wow. Now can you share a little bit more in detail about maybe are there any specific breeds that you work with?

SPEAKER_02

No, we see we see all dogs and cats uh with problems ranging from uh I mean injuries to ingesting medication or uh or toxins or socks. Uh it just kind of depends on on what the night brings us.

SPEAKER_00

What is the most common reason that you have pets come in the emergency room?

Common Emergencies We Treat

SPEAKER_02

Well, I would say it's not very glamorous, but the the most reason that folks seek care outside of office hours is generally some kind of GI upset. I deal with a lot of vomiting and diarrhea. It's always it's always a good time.

SPEAKER_00

Oof.

How People Find Us

SPEAKER_00

Now, we know marketing is key to any business's success. How do you market your business?

SPEAKER_02

Well, the main way we market is really through our network of general hospitals. You know, people are are dependent and have got a relationship with with their regular veterinarian and they tend to go where they're told. Now, for folks that don't have that relationship, it's a little bit harder. And so we rely mostly on Google for that.

SPEAKER_00

When you're not busy running your business, what do you like to do for fun?

Life Beyond The ER

SPEAKER_02

Oh, I enjoy spending time. I've got I've got uh adult children, and now I've got a grandchild with another on the way. So when I if I can travel and just see more of my family, then uh I enjoy doing that. And every now and then I get away and get on a sailboat for a few days. The ocean's a good place for me.

SPEAKER_00

Well, family is always such an important thing. One more question for you today, Dr. Losaso.

Why We’re Doing This

SPEAKER_00

I know you're a very, very busy person. So, in your own words, why are you doing this?

SPEAKER_02

Well, I'm trying to get more reach and to let people know that we are out there. Uh the the emergency landscape has changed since we opened almost 10 years ago, and there are a lot of corporate hospitals that I think don't necessarily take as good a care of their clients as we do. So I want to get uh kind of want to get the name out so everybody knows that we're available if you need us in the middle of the night. Or during the day, or on the weekends, or on Christmas Day, whenever it is.

SPEAKER_00

Well, love it, Dr. Losaso. We'll catch you in the next episode where we'll dive into some frequently asked questions. Have a fantastic rest of your day.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, you too. Thanks, Sophia, for your help.
