Welcome back to Roots to Restoration: Faith, Family, and Healing with Marie. In the last episode, we talked about identity and how sometimes we slowly shape ourselves around other people's expectations without even realizing it. But today we're going a little deeper. Because even when we begin to grow, there are still moments where we react before we think. And sometimes we don't fully understand why. Sometimes we think we are reacting to what's happening right now, but we are actually responding from something we learned a long time ago. Proverbs twenty nine, verse eleven says, fools give full vent to their rage, but the wise bring calm in the end. Our reactions are often learned over time, through experiences, through moments that shape us emotionally, and certain situations can bring those reactions back quickly before we even realize what's happening. Sometimes we react quickly because we learn to protect ourselves. Sometimes we shut down because silence once felt safer. Sometimes we overexplain because we learn we had to prove ourselves to be understood. And in those moments, we're not just responding to present, we're responding from something deeper, something familiar. It shows up in conflict, pressure, misunderstanding, feeling unheard. It can look like becoming defensive quickly, pulling away emotionally, or replaying moments repeatedly in your mind. Not because you want to, but because those responses become familiar. But awareness changes everything, because once you begin to recognize your patterns, you create space, space to pause, space to think, space to choose differently, instead of reacting automatically. God teaches us how to slow down, how to pause, how to respond with wisdom instead of reacting from emotion. And when we begin to bring awareness to ourselves, healing starts reaching deeper places. You are not your reactions, you are growing through them. And every moment you pause, every moment you choose differently, you are becoming more aware, more grounded, more aligned. Ask yourself, how do I usually react when I feel overwhelmed or misunderstood? And then ask what might that reaction be connected to? Rote doesn't happen overnight, but every moment of awareness matters, because once you recognize something, you can begin to change it. Let us close with a prayer. Heavenly Father, help us become more aware of how we respond. Give us wisdom and emotional moments, and guide us towards peace, clarity, and understanding. In Jesus' name, amen. As we continue this season, this is part of a deeper reflection in the journey. Take what you need from it and let it meet you where you are. Thank you for joining me on Roots to Restoration, Faith, Family, and Healing with Marie. Be blessed and continue growing in faith, healing, and restoration one season at a time.
