Welcome back to Roots to Restoration, Faith, Family, and Healing with Marie. In the last episode, we talked about learning to respond differently and how growth happens when we begin to pause instead of reacting automatically. But today we're going a little deeper into that. Because before we can truly change our responses, we have to understand what's activating them in the first place. Sometimes it's not the situation itself. It's what that situation reminds us of. Psalms 139, verse 23 says, Search me, God, and know my heart. Test me and know my anxious thoughts. Triggers are not always obvious. They don't always come from something big. Sometimes it's a tone of voice, a certain conversation, a feeling of being ignored, misunderstood, or dismissed. And suddenly something shifts inside of you. Your emotions rise. Your thoughts begin moving quickly, your body reacts before you fully understand why. That reaction is usually connected to something deeper. Something familiar, something your mind and emotions have experienced before. And even if the current moment is different, your body can respond as if it's happening all over again. Which is why certain situations can feel heavier than they actually are. Not because you're weak, but because something inside of you was already sensitive to it. It can look like feeling overwhelmed quickly, becoming defensive, shutting down emotionally, or reacting strongly to something small. And afterward, you may sit there thinking, why did that affect me so much? Not realizing the moment touched something deeper. Something unresolved, something familiar, something connected to past experiences. But recognizing your triggers is not a bad thing. It's awareness because once you recognize something, you can begin to understand it. And once you understand it, you can begin to respond differently, instead of reacting blindly. God does not reveal things to shame you, He reveals them to bring understanding, to bring healing, to bring clarity. And when you begin to notice your triggers, instead of avoiding them, you can begin bringing them to God and allowing Him to guide you through them. You are not too emotional, you are not too sensitive. You are becoming more aware, and awareness is part of growth. Because what you recognize you no longer have to stay trapped in. Ask yourself what situation affects me the most emotionally. What causes me to react quickly or shut down completely? And then ask, what might that be connected to? Your triggers are not something to fear, they are something to understand, because understanding yourself is part of healing. And every moment of awareness is a step forward. Let us close with a prayer. Heavenly Father, help us to recognize the things that affect us deeply. Give us wisdom, clarity, and understanding, and guide us towards healing and peace. Help us not to fear self-awareness, but to grow through it with you. In Jesus' name, amen. As we continue this season, this is part of a deeper reflection in the journey. Take what you need from it and let it meet you where you are. Thank you for joining me on Woods to Restoration, faith, family, and healing with Marie. Be blessed and continue growing in faith, healing, and restoration one season at a time.
