Welcome back to Roots to Restoration, Faith, Family, and Healing with Marie. In the last episode, we talked about the pressure of trying to hold everything together and how emotional exhaustion can quietly build over time. But today we are going even deeper. Because sometimes after living in survival mode for so long, we forget how to simply be present. When you spend most of your life surviving, peace can start to feel unfamiliar. Psalms 46 verse 10 says, Be still and know that I am God. Many people are constantly moving mentally, and even when they appear calm externally, always thinking, always preparing, always anticipating, trying to stay ahead of stress, trying to stay emotionally safe, trying to avoid being hurt again. And after a while, your mind becomes so used to survival that resting feels uncomfortable. Being still feels unfamiliar. Sometimes survival mode becomes normal. You become used to it, overthinking everything, preparing for worst-case scenarios, feeling like you always have to stay alert emotionally. And even during peaceful moments, part of you still feels tense, still waiting, still bracing, still trying to protect yourself. Not because you want to live that way, but because your mind learned to function in survival. It can look like struggling to relax completely, feeling guilty when you're resting, constantly feeling mentally on, or feeling uncomfortable when life finally becomes calm. Because when chaos becomes familiar, peace can feel strange at first, but healing teaches you something important. You are allowed to experience peace without waiting for something bad to happen. You are allowed to rest without feeling guilty. You are allowed to enjoy calm moments without feeling like you have to stay guarded. And that shift takes time. Because learning to live beyond survival is a process. God never intended for us to live in constant fear and tension. That's why scripture reminds us to be still, not because life is perfect, but because peace is still possible even in perfect seasons. And sometimes healing begins when you finally allow yourself to stop carrying constant emotional alertness, to breathe, to slow down, to trust God in the stillness. You do not always have to be in survival mode. You do not always have to expect the worst. And you do not have to earn peace through exhaustion. Peace is not weakness. Rest is not laziness. Stillness is not failure. Sometimes stillness is healing. Ask yourself, have I become so used to surviving that peace feels unfamiliar to me? And then ask what would it look like to allow myself to fully rest? You deserve moments of peace too, not just survival, not just endurance, peace, stillness, breathing room. And as you continue this journey, remember you are no longer just surviving. You are learning how to live. Let us close with a prayer. Heavenly Father, help us to release survival mode and teach us how to rest in your peace. Calm our minds where there has been tension, and help us trust you in moments of stillness. Guide us into peace, clarity, and emotional rest. In Jesus' name, amen. As we continue this season, this is part of a deeper reflection in the journey. Take what you need from it and let it meet you where you are. Thank you for joining me on Roots to Restoration, faith, family, and healing with Marie. Be blessed and continue growing in faith, healing, and restoration one season at a time.
