Welcome back to Roots to Restoration, Faith, Family, and Healing with Marie. In the last episode, we talked about over-explaining ourselves and how constantly trying to be understood can become emotionally exhausting. But today we are going deeper into something many people silently struggle with. Because sometimes when you finally begin choosing yourself, guilt shows up immediately. Some people feel guilty for resting because they were taught their worth came from what they gave to others. Ecclesiastes 3 verse 1 says, There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens. Many people struggle with guilt when they finally start setting boundaries. Guilt for saying no, guilt for resting, guilt for creating distance from things that no longer feel healthy. And because the guilt feels uncomfortable, many people return to overextending themselves again. Not because they truly want to, but because choosing themselves feels unfamiliar. Sometimes people become so used to prioritizing everyone else, they begin viewing self-care as selfishness. So when they finally choose rest or peace or emotional distance from draining situations, their mind immediately questions it. Should I just keep pushing through? And internally they begin battling guilt for simply needing space to breathe. It can look like feeling guilty after saying no, feeling anxious after settling boundaries, feeling emotionally responsible for everyone else's comfort, or struggling to fully enjoy peace because part of you still feels you should do something more for others. And after a while, you stop trusting your own emotional needs completely. But healing teaches you something important. Choosing yourself sometimes is necessary. Rest is necessary, boundaries are necessary, peace is necessary. And protecting your emotional well-being does not make you selfish, it makes you aware. Even Jesus stepped away from crowds to rest. He prayed alone. He withdrew when he needed, he created space for peace and restoration. So sometimes healing begins when you stop viewing rest as weakness and start recognizing it as wisdom. Because you cannot continue pouring endlessly without eventually becoming empty. You are allowed to choose peace, you are allowed to protect your energy, and you are allowed to step back from things that continuously drain you emotionally, without guilt, without shame, without needing permission. Ask yourself, where in my life have I been feeling guilty for choosing myself? And then ask, what would it feel like to finally choose peace without apology? Healing sometimes means learning that taking care of yourself is not abandonment toward others. It is wisdom. And as you continue this journey, remember you deserve peace too. Let us close with a prayer. Heavenly Father, help us release guilt, pressure, and fear around choosing rest and emotional peace. Teach us healthy balance and remind us that caring for ourselves does not make us selfish. Guide us towards wisdom, restoration, and inner peace in Jesus' name. Amen. As we continue this season, this is part of a deeper reflection in the journey. Take what you need from it and let it meet you where you are. Thank you for joining me on Roots to Restoration, Faith, Family, and Healing with Marie. Be blessed and continue growing in faith, healing, and restoration, one season at a time.
