The Power of Validation
Validation according to the dictionary is the recognition or affirmation that a person or their feelings or opinions are valid or worthwhile. When someone tells me, “I know you are fearful and anxious. I don’t really know how it feels but I am here if you need me,” meant a lot to me. There is power in validation. It makes us feel understood.
While reading on the topic of validation, I found that there is a thing called Validation Therapy which is being used in the patients with dementia or Alzheimer. It helps lessen their agitation and anxiety.
On this episode of Digging Deep for Treasures, my guest Michelle and I talk about our experiences with fears and anxieties and what helped us to overcome or cope with them. This included getting validation from others.
Michelle Martino is a Christian writer who inspires others to discover God’s perfect joy in all seasons.
