The Pause that Reveals Fear

A pause doesn’t create fear — it reveals it. When life slows down, the thoughts we’ve kept buried often rise to the surface. In this episode, we examine where our minds run in uncertain seasons and how Isaiah 26:3 calls us back to perfect peace. In a fear-prone world, we learn how to anchor ourselves in truth.

What you’ll hear in this week’s episode

•What pauses in our lives reveal.
•What it invites us to

Verse of the Week

"You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You." Isaiah 26:3 (ESV)

Psalm 46:10-11

"Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress." (ESV)

Welcome to Digging Deep for Treasures podcast. This is Cecille Valoria, a Christian author and a retired teacher. This podcast is to encourage women to grow in their faith and harness the power of the Holy Spirit as we unearth scriptural truths so that we can live in a peace filled life in our fear-prone world. So now sit back, relax, and lets dig deep for treasures in his word. When life pauses unexpectedly, fear often rushes in. Fear of what's next, fear of what we're losing, fear of what we can't control. If you listened to the last episode, we talked about identity, how the pause can shake what we've attached are worth to. Today I want to talk about what often follows that shaking. Fear. Here's what I learned. A pause doesn't create fear, it reveals it. When life is busy and moving forward, we can sometimes mistake activity for peace. We assume we're steady because everything is progressing. But when God slows us down, when he removes the noise, the momentum, the certainty. Sometimes what surfaces is fear. I've been there. Fear about provision, fear about identity, fear about the future. And that's where we begin digging because this podcast has always been about unearthing biblical truth so that we can live peace-filled lives in a fear prone world. And if fear surfaces in the pause, that doesn't mean we've failed. It means we've found something that needs truth applied to it. Isaiah 26 3 says,"You keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you." Notice what that verse doesn't say. It doesn't say, God keeps us in perfect peace when circumstances are stable. It doesn't say he keeps us in perfect peace when outcomes are clear. It says, peace is connected to where our mind stays. And the pause exposes where our mind runs. Does it run toward worst case scenarios? I know mine has more times than I can count, especially during those decades I struggled with general anxiety disorder. Does it replay uncertainties? Yes. And often I don't even say them out loud. I internalize them, and when fear settles into the quiet places of our mind, it can steal even something as simple as a good night's sleep. Or does it return to what is eternally true? That is the invitation. That is what Christ calls us toward. Not because fear disappears overnight, but because truth steadies us, peace is not the absence of uncertainty. Peace is God in the middle of it, and here's the truth, buried in that pause when everything slows down, we have space to examine what we truly believe about God. Do we believe He is sovereign only when life is moving forward or do we believe he is sovereign when life feels suspended? The pause invites us to anchor our peace. Not in progress, but in God's character. God's faithfulness does not fluctuate with our season. His goodness does not pause when our plans do. His presence does not withdraw when our pace changes. So maybe the unchosen pause is not just a disruption. Maybe it is an invitation, an invitation to trade imagined futures for remembered truth, an invitation to quiet the noise and rehearse what we know about him. If fear has surfaced in your pause, don't shame yourself for it. Instead, dig there. Ask yourself, what am I afraid of right now? And then ask what the scriptures say about that because peace is not found in speeding back up. It's found in staying our minds on him. In a fear prone world, we do not eliminate uncertainty. We anchor ourselves in truth, and sometimes the pause is exactly where that anchoring happens. If God has you on hold for now, embrace it. Ask him to show you what he wants you to learn from it. And as Psalm 46, 10 to 11 says,"Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.""The Lord of hosts is with us. The God of Jacob is our fortress." Friends, He's working behind the scenes even when we are paused and when we wait for him, instead of rushing ahead, we see what he was building in us all along. Because, He is faithful. Thank you for joining me today on this episode of Digging Deep for Treasures. If you enjoyed it, I'd love for you to subscribe so you don't miss any future ones.
