The Nature Of True Wisdom

Carey 0:15

Do you feel like you could have used a little more wisdom today? James three seventeen says, The wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.

Breaking From Worldly Wisdom

That is our evening mindset. But what the world says is wisdom is not necessarily what the Bible describes as wisdom. James 3, 17 outlines for us what wisdom from above looks like, meaning from God.

Traits Of Wisdom From Above

Carey 1:30

It says it is first pure. Wow, what a place to begin. Wisdom from above is first pure, so it's not selfishly ambitious, it's not manipulative, it's not trying to create some sort of an advantage for itself. Then it's peaceable, so it's bringing about peace between people. It's gentle. So in other words, kind, careful with people. It's open to reason. So it's not narrow-minded, not so dogmatic that you can't really have a conversation, not argumentative. It's full of mercy and good fruits. It's impartial and sincere. So in other words, wisdom from above is saturated with God's love, God's care for people, understanding that things are not necessarily as important as the people that are involved.

Evening Prayer For Wisdom

Carey 2:31

So friends, as you wind down for the evening, ask God to give you this kind of perspective, this kind of wisdom from above. And be confident that as you ask him for something that is his will, like this, he will give it. And you can wake tomorrow with the confidence that the God who holds all wisdom is actively partnering with you to give you wisdom as you rise to live for him tomorrow. We want to be pure and peaceable and gentle and open to reason and full of mercy and good fruit, and impartial and sincere in the way that we live with the people who are around us every day. Enable
