Reading Psalm 23
CareyThe Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Why This Psalm Endures
CareyOne of the most famous passages in all the Bible. I remember my mother telling me when she was a child in school, she was required to memorize the 23rd Psalm. And there's a reason it's been such a mainstay of people's faith. The imagery that it gives us is so powerful. Think about it.
What A Shepherd Really Does
CareyThe Lord is my shepherd. What does a shepherd do? Well, he leads, he feeds, and he protects a flock of dumb animals. The Lord is my shepherd. He guides me. He leads me. He protects me. And as a result, I shall not be in want.
Provision, Rest, And Assurance
CareyI can rest assured, he's going to take care of me no matter what. He makes me lie down in green pastures. That's an implication. He's going to provide for us well and richly and abundantly because of his goodness. It doesn't mean at all times and every way, but it does mean overall our lives are cared for.
Righteous Paths And Hard Times
CareyAnd he leads you in paths of righteousness for his namesake. You know, sometimes the difficulties we go through in life are because we're on a righteous path and we don't necessarily recognize it at the time. But that's what he's doing. He's leading us in a path that will show his great righteousness through us if we will yield ourselves to obedience and to trust.
Surrender And Soul Restoration
CareyWhat our souls really need, you will give us.
