Psalm 23:5 Read Aloud

Five. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil. My cup overflows. These words of comfort come to us from Psalm twenty-three, verse five, for today's evening mindset.

A Table Before Our Enemies

Imagine somebody being so in control and so able to provide for you that they can spread a banquet feast for you in the presence of your greatest enemies. And those enemies just have to look on. They can't do anything about it. You can see them across the room seething at how well you're being provided for, how well you're being taken care of, and they're helpless to do anything about it. That's the imagery that David gives us here in Psalm 23, 5. Our God prepares a table before us in the presence of our enemies. Do you know what that means? It means He is doing wonderful, abundant, blessed things in our lives, even when our enemies are actively trying to do the opposite. Because that's just how powerful and how good he is.

Rethinking God’s Heart Toward Us

Friends, do you look at God that way? Do you portray him that way in your own mind, or do you tell yourself stories about him that he's angry with you, he's looking down on you, he's displeased with you? And friends, don't hear me saying we shouldn't take our own sin seriously and repent of it and feel guilty when we really have sinned. We should.

Accepted Through Jesus

But what I'm talking about is our acceptance through our faith in Jesus Christ. Through Jesus, God has proverbially anointed our head with oil. You see, through Jesus, every blessing God has to give is ours.

Every Blessing Is Ours In Christ

And we don't have to fear the difficulties, the enemies that come into our lives, because our God provides for us abundantly, even as they're trying to do those things to disrupt our lives.

Prayer For Peace And Rest

Carey 4:10

That we can see you rightly, our great protector and provider, the one who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms through our faith in Jesus Christ, and the one who makes our cup overflow. We don't just have enough, we have more than enough because of who you are. So as we lie down tonight, give us peace, give us confidence, give us rest because of who you are as our provider.
