A Verse For Evening Prayer

Carey

Our evening mindset meditation comes from First John chapter five, verse number fourteen. Listen to what the Apostle John writes. This is the confidence that we have toward him. That if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.

What Confidence In Prayer Means

Carey

You see, John says it's supposed to give us confidence regarding our prayer life. It's a confidence about our relationship with God and the fruit that it yields. He says this is the confidence we have toward God. If we ask anything, anything according to his will, he hears us. Now what does that mean? Well, it means if we ask God for something, say it's something in our life, something in a child's life, something in the life of a friend, if we ask him for something that he wants to give, then of course he's going to hear us and he's going to give that. He's going to answer that prayer with a big yes. That totally makes sense. That's how human relationships work. When a child asks their parent for something. If the parent wants to give them that thing, believes it's good for them, wants to give them that blessing, then the parent says that big yes. So it totally makes

How We Learn God’s Will

sense. But what we don't seem to understand, in my opinion, is how we know what is the will of God. See, that can seem like a mystery to us. But it doesn't have to be friends. Here's the key. As we walk closely in relationship with Him, just like in yesterday's episode, we talked about abiding in Jesus. You see, as we remain connected to Him, we are receiving of His life. We are receiving of His will, you might say in certain ways. And we will more and more begin to take on His thoughts about the things we desire. And that matters in prayer.

A Closing Prayer For Rest

Carey

Laying our head down, thinking, praying, even. Enable us to tap into your will, through your Spirit who lives in us, through Jesus who we walk with day by day. Enable us to know the things you're eager to answer and delighted to fulfill. And enable us in faith to ask for those things with confidence that you will hear. Lay us down to rest with your grace and with an assurance of your great love and care for us as our Father.
