Welcome And Evening Focus
CareyHello friends. As you prepare yourself for rest tonight, set your mind and your heart on these words from the Old Testament.
Psalm 25:9 For Tonight
CareyPsalm chapter twenty-five, verse number nine. He leads the humble in what is right and teaches the humble his way. That is our evening mindset meditation for today.
Defining Real Humility
CareySo there's a criteria here, a certain kind of person that God leads in what is right. He says it's those who are humble. Do you understand exactly who he's talking about? Is it those people who are kind of weak and destitute and doing without no, not necessarily. Humility has to do with what's going on in your heart. It has to do with your attitude. You see, God is saying those who are not proud, not self-reliant, not thinking they have the wisdom, the smarts, the ability to live life on their own, those are the ones he leads in what is right. You see, when we come to God with a posture internally that says, God, I need you, he is so on board with helping us to know what to do that is right. The second half of the phrase says, He teaches the humble his way. So again, humble people are in view here. And he is excited to teach those who want to be taught. He's eager to guide us.
Bringing Tomorrow Under God’s Guidance
CareySo as you think about the things that are on your agenda for tomorrow, whether that's raising kids or going to work and trying to perform in some way, God will guide you in that way. He will teach you in all of those things as you remain humble, as you remain dependent on him, resting in him, relying on him to help you. As you prepare for rest tonight, put your mind on those things and prepare your heart to pray, asking him for the help that you're going to need.
Prayer For Dependent Rest
CareyFor tomorrow, for the next day, for the next. We want you to lead us in what is right, and we want you to teach us your way. Because we are unable to know it, we're unable to keep your ways purely in the way we behave without your help. So come, Lord Jesus, as we rest tonight, to give us an attitude of rest in you for tomorrow that we'll be able to rely on you, remember you, ask you for help, and not go off on our own.
