Scripture For Tonight’s Meditation
CareyFor Christ suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit. That's from first Peter chapter three, verse eighteen, and will serve us well as our evening mindset meditation for today.
Why Christ Suffered Once
CareyPeter gives us some insight here. He wants us to understand the heart of God behind the actions of God. He says Christ suffered in his beating, in his punishment, in his infliction of being impaled on the cross. He suffered once, one time for sins. So in other words, he took the punishment for the sins of all who place their faith in him. He suffered as the righteous one for the unrighteous. So he's a substitute. He's an atonement that is taking our place. And why did he do so? That he might bring us to God. You see, God's motivation in all of Jesus' suffering was that Jesus would open a way for us to be reunited with God the Father. He wants our sin out of the way. He wants every offense we've ever done that that has kept us from him to be removed so that we can come to him through faith. And he says Jesus was put to death in the flesh, meaning his human body. But he was made alive in the Spirit. In other words, when Jesus died and rose again, he came forth as a new kind of creature, a new kind of being, the God man now risen, never to die again. He suffered once, and that's enough. He's taken our sin upon himself.
Rest That Drives Out Fear
CareyOh friends, I want you to rest in this truth tonight. This is a glorious truth that drives away all fear, all anxiety, because Jesus has done for us what we could not do for ourselves.
Gratitude Prayer And Tomorrow’s Outlook
CareyYou suffered once for our sins. The righteous one, the one who did not deserve to suffer, did to bring us to God. Thank you, Jesus. Prepare us for rest by enabling us to just sink into the comfort of that truth and overwhelm us with it and prepare us for a day tomorrow that is lived in light of that truth, that our biggest problem is forever taken care of.
