Settling Into Scripture
CareyAs you prepare your mind for rest, ponder these words from Second Corinthians five, verse twenty one. For our sake, he, God, made him Jesus, to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Awe That Quietly Opens The Soul
CareyWe see these places that are so vast and big and majestic, and they create kind of a hush in our souls as we recognize just how big and awesome our God is to be the creator of such things. And yet He loves us, He cares for us, He takes care of us. 2 Corinthians chapter 5, verse 21 proclaims that same sort of majestic truth, only on a much grander scale than the Grand Canyon or the mountains or the ocean.
Why Jesus Becomes Sin
CareyYou see, for our sake, not for God's benefit, but for our benefit, God made Jesus to be sin. Paul is describing the reality of Jesus taking on the sin of the world in his very person. It's why he was sweating drops of blood the night before his crucifixion. It's why, as he hung on the cross, he suffered so horribly. Because he was becoming sin for us, so that God in his wrath could punish sin and execute the full measure of his offense against sin. And Jesus is the one who knew no sin, meaning he did not practice sin in any way. He was perfect. And God did all this for our benefit, so that in Jesus we might become what we are not. The righteousness of God.
The Two-Way Exchange Of The Cross
CareySo do you see when Jesus went to the cross, there were two exchanges that happened. He took your sin on himself, and he gave you his righteousness. Those are staggering truths to ponder as we prepare for rest.
Prayer For Deep Assurance Tomorrow
CareyHow big our need is, and how all-sufficient your sacrifice for it is. We won't understand our salvation and we won't live like saved people unless we understand those two things. So give us the depth of understanding we need so that we can face tomorrow, knowing not only are we entirely forgiven, past, present, and future, but we also are entirely righteous. You have made us so in Christ, and we praise you.
