Hello and welcome to the Rio Park Theater Podcast. We are uh well, I am, you are, I am, I can't speak for both of us. I am uh former video store employee and movie enthusiast Duncan Shields.
SPEAKER_00And I am former video store owner uh of Black Dog Video here in Vancouver, and video store enthusiast as well, Darren Gay.
SPEAKER_01Fantastic. Uh we both love movies, and uh we both love going to see movies in theaters. I love it. And uh here are some of the amazing movies and events coming to the Rio Theater and the Park Theater this September. Yes, right here in Vancouver, British Columbia. Shall we start with the Rio? Uh yeah, well, we've both got some stuff coming up that we're excited about. And it's gonna be an exciting September, I do have to say. But yeah, let's uh let's Action Packed. Action packed.
SPEAKER_00Start with the uh with the Rio, I guess. Do you want to go first? Yeah, I'll go first. Yeah. Um, my first pick is takes place on the third of the month. Uh at 6 30 in the evening is uh the final cut of Manhunter. Exciting! Michael Mann's uh early um early film that introduced uh the world to Dr. Hannibal Lecter. It's a pretty awesome film. I guess it's a 4K restoration, uh all the all the all the bells and whistles that come with that should be pretty awesome on the big screen.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he uh this is his third feature. Is it his third after thief? Uh I guess after thief, and I guess one more, maybe a student film or something. Yeah, I'm not too sure. And that's got Brian Cox's Hannibal Lecters. Yes, yeah, he's a good Hannibal. He's a good Hannibal, he's like your friendly uncle, but like everybody else is terrified of him. You're like, so Mike, maybe he's really that's scary. Yeah, he eats people. Totally different spin on uh yeah, we've all had an uncle that's eaten eating people, right? Yeah, we've all cannibal uncle. Yeah, it's a cliche. Yeah, totally. Uh continuing it's Stellar Sold-out run. We've got Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. You've seen this, right? I have seen it. I quite enjoyed it. Jane Schoenbrunn's uh latest outing from uh she uh they directed uh I saw the TV glow. There's a very interesting, like all of their films so far have been like really heavy on vibes and very original. And I I I always can't wait to see what's coming next.
SPEAKER_00Have you seen um We're All Going to the World's Fair? I have. I like that one.
SPEAKER_01I thought there was there was a lot of dead air, but there was a couple of parts in it that were like, this is like legit terrifying. This is actually scary. Yeah, and for a first uh feature, that's pretty impressive. For a first feature made for like whatever, 600 bucks. But yeah, so Cant Miasma, uh Hannah Einbinder, who is uh the daughter of one of the original SNL casts. Oh really? Yeah. Um, there was um Jane Curtin. Nope. Uh John Belushi. Should have written it down. One of the one of the one of the women. There was uh Jane Curtin. Lorraine Newman? Yes. Okay, she's Lorraine Newman's daughter, and uh she plays a nervous young director whose recent successes have put the studio's faith in her to resurrect the Camp Miasma franchise. Awesome. Which is like a Friday the 13th type style.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I'm really looking for I haven't had a chance to get and check it out. I've it's been sold out all the time.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and Gillian Anderson is the is the sort of the the final girl from the first movie that Hannah Einbinder goes to um interview and hopefully get for the for the film. But things go where reality warps, weird stuff starts to happen. Excellent. Uh, well worth seeing. I really like the layers and the visuals, and I'm down to watch whatever Sean Brynn puts out. But that's playing September the first, second, third, sixth, seventh, and tenth at various times. Uh check the Rio Theater.ca for Showtimes. Really, really worth seeing in the theater. Yeah. Especially because it's gonna be packed. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I imagine if it keeps doing well, they're gonna keep showing it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they'll keep showing it.
SPEAKER_00People keep buying tickets, they'll keep showing it. Excellent, excellent. Uh, my pick uh happens on the 4th of uh September at 11:30 is the comedy superbad with uh McLovin and uh and company. Good old McLovin, Christopher Mince Place. Yeah, yeah, that's what I'm not a huge comedy fan generally, but this one has some really good, genuine laughs in it. And it's it's good, it's clever, it's funny, and uh and the characters are all great. It's Judd Apatow.
SPEAKER_01I don't know if it was his first store if it was uh one of but it kind of one of those redefining of of comedy genre films.
SPEAKER_00I know Seth Rogan's in it. I don't know if he had a hand in writing it or not. I can't remember.
SPEAKER_01But apparently he I think he did, but apparently a lot of the good stuff that they wrote that like they wrote this in high school. Oh wow and a lot of the a lot of the scenes that they wrote.
SPEAKER_00Just down the street here in Point Grey where just down the street.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And it's uh it's very, very funny. And we've got yeah, Seth Rogan and uh an early Bill Hader. Oh, right. They played the cops, right? They played the cops, but this is from the late 2000s, and like it's been a while now. I know. It's been like 20 years or something, and I'm like, stop. Wait till we get uh down the list, then we're gonna go, oh my god. Yeah. Um there is a movie coming up called The Wrong Girls. Okay. Uh really great cast. We've got Kirsten Stewart, uh Alia Shaw Cat, who who's from um She's uh Rested Development. Rested Development, yeah. Kate Blanchett. Green Room, yeah. She's uh she's got a promising young career. She's just starting out here. Kate Blanche. I should have heard. I'm hoping for big things. We got Kamal Nanjanji, uh, and we've got Kate McKinnon and Gina Davis. That's a heck of a cast. Yeah. So it's uh Christine Allier play a couple of random young women who gain telepathic abilities after taking an experimental drug. So it's kind of a stoner comedy road trip kind of a thing. Yeah. But it's ladies in the lead. Yeah. That's on September 1st, 6th, and 7th at various times. Check Rio Theater.ca for exact show times. Looks pretty wild with a lot of cool visuals.
SPEAKER_00I am looking forward to that. I like a good stoner comedy.
SPEAKER_01Uh the next one I have is on the second. So I can do that to catch up to you. Do it right now. Uh I Want Your Sex. Oh, yes, I want to see this one. Uh no, that's just something I want to say. Okay, should we talk about those maybe uh after the show? Uh Cooper Hoffman, Philip Seymour Hoffman's son, there is in this one, and he plays a hapless young lad who ends up being the sexual muse for strange, provocative artist Olivia Wilde. Yeah, uh, who apparently is in a spandex or leather or type PVC. She's having a bit of a year, isn't she? She sure is. Yeah, with the invite and then this one. With the invite and this one, making her name as both a director and suffering some slings and arrows in the Hollywood uh, you know, the life of a Hollywood director. Like she's going through it, but she's hanging in there and she's putting out quality work.
SPEAKER_00I'm sure the life of a woman Hollywood director is a little tougher as well. Especially so, yeah. So I want to see this one. I was always, you know, when I'm like there's so much nepotism in in Hollywood and stuff like that. Um, so whenever Sick goes, you know, like the son or the daughter of whoever comes along. But I know I was a little skeptical when I heard you know Cooper Hoffman. Yeah. And then I felt when I found out whose son he was. But seeing him in like uh Licorice Pizza and the Long Walk, and he's like, he's he's pretty solid.
SPEAKER_01Oh, right, the long walk, yeah, yeah. Yeah, he's he's quite good. No, he's making his own mark and he's got his own vibe and flavor. So like, yeah, I like the stuff that he's in. But that's yeah. Dark path of obsession, power, betrayal, and murder. Oh no. Uh September the 2nd at 9:15.
SPEAKER_00Excellent. Um, my next pick is on the 6th of September at 10 o'clock at night. Is uh one of my favorite John Carpenter movies, Big Trouble in Little China with Kurt Russell and Kim Cottrell, and a whole bunch of weird shit going on. He's playing John Burton. Who? Oh, Jack Burton.
SPEAKER_01Jack Burton. Who? Jack Burton and the Pork Chop Express. Yeah, that movie's it's so much fun. It's so much fun. It's what it's a real hoot and hauler, well worth seeing. Gosh, Carpenter and Russell, eh? Yeah. Hand in hand. They just did like four all killer, no-filler films together.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. And and to see this on the big screen would be a total treat. Yeah. Because there's some there's some visual gags in it that kind of lose a little bit when on when when you're watching them at home. Yeah, for sure. So when you say on the big screen, they're gonna be uproarious.
SPEAKER_01Also got Kim Catrell, Dennis Dunn, and the amazing James Hong. Yes, yes. Yeah, movie's a blast. James Hong is still with us, I think.
SPEAKER_00Uh he's not in this room, but uh I think he's he might still be live.
SPEAKER_01He just got a he just got a star on the walk of fame. Fuck it for him. Uh okay, on Sunday, September the 6th, earlier that very day, well, the day before on Saturday, September the 5th, I do want to mention it is once again the Saturday morning All You Can Eat Cereal Cartoon Party, where this is uh what, volume 14? Uh three hours of Saturday morning cartoons, mostly from the 70s, 80s, and 90s, but some gems from the 30s and 40s, complete with advertisements and PSAs, which are almost as good as the cartoons themselves, seeing old vintage commercials. They got a huge cereal buffet bar with milk and gluten-free and non-dairy alternatives at the front and back of the theater. Help yourself to as much as you want as you relive those Saturday morning cartoons. Wear your pajamas, very family friendly, uh, bring a non-breakable bowl. It's such a good time. And that's it. 10 30 a.m. on Saturday, September the 5th. I'm assuming the bar isn't open for that. It does open at noon, I think, or something like that. I think they've managed to open it up at some point during the proceedings. Right. And they might, they might even have some sort of cartoon-themed um alcoholic brunchy beverages. I was pushing for mimosas at one point. Oh, yeah. I was gonna say mimosas, actually. That was great. And then uh on September the 6th, earlier before Big Trouble in Little China, Late Fame, which I'm not sure I'm not familiar with that. I'm really interested in this one. It's Willem Dafoe playing a poet in New York who now works at the post office, and he was a bit of a big deal in 1967 or something like that. But a bunch of young hipsters in Manhattan are like, Have you read this guy's work? And then they're like, Oh my gosh, he's still alive. He works down the street, he's the post office guy. And so they're like, Hey, come to our literary reading circle and uh let us worship you. And he's kind of like, uh Wow, okay. And so he goes and then yeah, he starts getting you know a big head again. He starts like, Do you know who I am? sort of thing. And then um Greta Lee is in it again. Okay, I'm not Greta Lee Greta Lee was in Past Lives. She was in um Past Lives was amazing. Not the house at the end of the street. Uh she was in one of those trapped in a house once. Oh, okay. With uh Richard Wagner, or not Richard Wagner, Wagner Moray.
SPEAKER_00Okay, is that the one that was just on like uh Netflix or something like that?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, with the squid people and stuff like that. Supposed to be not very good, that movie. It is awful. And then uh, but then she was in like Tron Aries, okay. Uh and then she was in that uh one-shot of the studio, uh the Apple series of studio. And we're like, who are you, Greta Lee? Like her choices are all over the place. And now she's playing a wacky character in this Willem Dafoe movie. So I always have time for the show. Sunday, September the 6th at 2 45, and Monday, September the 7th at 4 p.m.
SPEAKER_00Excellent. Uh my next pick is not a movie, but is uh a live uh I guess uh I don't know if it's a studio participation thing, but it it is Paul Anthony's talent time. Ah yeah on uh on the 8th of September at 8 o'clock. Uh Paul Anthony, who's been on this or who's been on our other podcast, the Black Dog After Dark Classic. Friend of the Podcast. Friend of the podcast. Good dude, very funny. He puts on like a big talent show, and it's a it's a blast. This one features uh award-winning clown, uh Bradley Wren. Ooh. We have uh something called the Trombone Fronted Musical Project. Heck yes. Yeah, I think it's uh what I was reading today was like um the person that does this replaces the dialogue and movies with a trombone.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I'm so in. That sounds hilarious.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it does. Uh there's a presentation from the Tapeworm Corporation. Hokie dokie. We have uh that again we have the dance sensation uh uh funky four corners.
SPEAKER_01Oh, fantastic.
SPEAKER_00And uh and you can experience a real vacation from the comfort of the real. I don't know what that means.
SPEAKER_01I think there's something about if you if you can't afford an actual vacation, an imagination vacation. Yes, so somebody will be there to take you on an imagination vacation. Excellent. It sounds like it's gonna be a lot of fun. Yeah. That's eight o'clock on the eighth of September. Always a hoot. You never know what you're gonna get, but it's always gonna be quality. Yeah. Um, and then the day before that, Monday, September the 7th, is the The Room Returns, which I'm really interested in this.
SPEAKER_00Is this the Bob Odenkirk?
SPEAKER_01Yes, okay. The bizarre recreation of the cult classic, starring Bob Odenkirk as the lead. So no rehearsals and only teleprompters to guide the actors. So it's really hard to recreate the wild energy of the original, but this sounds like it could come close.
SPEAKER_00Yes, it sounds like it'd be a lot of fun. It's gonna be pretty hilarious because there's a lot of funny people involved in this.
SPEAKER_01And that's Monday, September the 7th at 645. And there'll be a QA afterwards by director Brando Crawford.
SPEAKER_00Oh, cool. Um, the next day, actually that was on the the seventh. That was on the seventh. Okay, so my next pick is on the ninth. Oh, me too. Yeah. When it's the Found Footage Festival, it sure would. Awesome. Yes. I don't know if you've uh have you have you been to the Found Footage Festival before?
SPEAKER_01I haven't, and I should, because I hear from everybody who's gone that it's amazing.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I've been, I think I've been to the last four or five of them. And sadly I'm out of town, so I'm gonna miss this one. But um, if you've never seen it, uh, these two guys, uh Joe, Joel, uh Joe Pickett and uh Nick Pruer, both of them, one guy wrote for The Onion. I think Nick Pruer was uh writer for um uh Letterman, I think. Letterman, I think, yeah. And they're both hilarious. And what they do, they cut they uh they gather video VHS tapes from wherever they can find them, yard sales, uh you know, um those stores, vintage stores, that kind of thing. Sure, sure, whatever bargain bins. And they comb through them to find crazy funny stuff. I can't imagine just the curating hours.
SPEAKER_01Curating through so much garbage to find the goal.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think they've got something like 14,000 tapes in their office in Brooklyn. Wow. But they they get the best of them, they edit them and present them, they do a commentary. They're it's very funny. It's hilarious, and uh, they're really good guys. I've had drinks with them afterwards, they're very fun guys. Go check this out if you haven't seen it.
SPEAKER_01Outstanding. I think I will take you up on that.
SPEAKER_00Yes, I'm sad I'm gonna miss it, but uh yeah.
SPEAKER_01All you other people enjoy it. My uh next choice, Thursday, September the 10th at 620. I don't know anything about this movie, other than anybody who's seen it has said that it's the film of the year. Oh, that it's fantastic, and that is The Rivals of Amzia King. Oh, I don't know what this is. It's Matthew McConaughey, uh Matthew McConaughey, Angelina Looking Glass, and Kurt Russell. Okay, I have heard of this one, yeah. The aforementioned Kurt Russell. Uh it's this movie about a bluegrass band of uh misfits trying to make honey as a family business, uh, but a foster daughter returns to the fold and they try to make a go of it and she's welcomed in, and I guess sparks blind, things go awry. I'm not really sure what happens in the movie. I'm trying to be as blind as possible because I only know that it's amazing.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, best of I like best to go into movies if you don't know very much about them.
SPEAKER_01Especially if the buzz is really hot, you know, like I did that with weapons, you know. If you have the ones where you're just like, all I know is it's amazing, yeah. Just go see it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I did that with weapons and this year with uh obsession, and both of them are two of my favorite movies I've seen in each of those two years.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so I'm really looking forward to the rivals of Mzai King on Thursday, September the 10th.
SPEAKER_00Excellent. Um, my next pick is the September the 12th. We have the 100th anniversary of Foust. Wow. And uh they're doubling up that with um Nosferatu, two tilent uh classics, uh, and we're gonna have the Invincible Tsars doing uh music for them. And I've seen I've seen them do Nosferato before. Awesome, and it is so good. I I'd never seen Nosferado until I saw that at the Rio. Oh, wonderful Invincible Tsars. And the the music and the sounds they create is just adds like another layer of creepiness and fun to the whole thing. Yeah, it's if you haven't seen this before, go check it out.
SPEAKER_01That's one of the cool things about silent films, is like every time wherever you saw it, you had a regional difference. Like maybe it was the church organ lady playing on the church organ, uh, maybe it was a ragtime guy playing on the piano, and then or else you had a band.
SPEAKER_00I can't imagine Nasferati with ragtime. That's crazy. Which I now doing that, I can see that kind of working.
SPEAKER_01But yeah, that that'll that'll be amazing. That's on uh yeah, Saturday, September the 12th. Great. You can go to one movie for 39 or both for 44, which is a pretty good stuff. That's pretty good. You've seen a live band too. Live band. Yeah. Uh Monday, September the 14th, the Butthole Surfers. Oh, right. The whole truth and nothing but I get it. The whole truth and nothing but uh big old retrospective documentary on the legendary rock band, The Butthole Surfers. Excellent. Who I listened to a lot when I was a youngin' in my youthful times. Excellent. So it'd be cool to see. I'm sure there are lots of good uh I saw them once way, way back in the day. Oh, you actually saw them so wonderful. Yeah, it's like 25 years ago or something like that. So that's Monday, September the 14th at 6 30 p.m.
SPEAKER_00Excellent. Uh my next pick is a late night date night on the 18th of September. Oh yeah. We have um Ridley Scott's legend with uh the late great Tim Curry. I guess that's a uh Yes, I know. Yeah. It's sad. It is very sad.
SPEAKER_01Not unexpected, but it's sad.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it always is. But even if you know it's coming, you know it's gonna happen sometime, that's always sad. Yeah. Um Legend, it's not like it's not my favorite uh uh Tim Curry or Ridley Scott movie, but the visuals are great. And I have to I think Tim Curry plays the best on-screen devil I've seen in movies.
SPEAKER_01I mean, I think technically he's the darkness.
SPEAKER_00Sure.
SPEAKER_01But I'm like, okay, sure, whatever. I got corrected once on the internet.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay. Well, I'm getting like I'm getting corrected right now. Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Oh, it's not the devil, actually, he's the darkness, but yeah, whatever.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's and it's a it's a beautiful beautiful looking movie. Beautiful film, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Like visually, absolutely incredible, has to be seen in the theater. Great stuff.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, go see it despite Tom Cruise being in it.
SPEAKER_01Yes, right, that's right. He's a baby Tom Cruise is the lead. Mia Sarah is in it, I think maybe same year or the year before, the year after uh uh Ferris Butler. Yeah, okay. So yeah, but just a fan. Oh, and uh yeah. What do you got next? My next pick on Thursday, September 24th, and Saturday, September the 26th, first at 6, then then at 3 is the samurai in the prisoner. Okay, I don't know this one. This is from the Japanese director Kiyoshi Kurosawa. Oh, really? He directed uh Cure and Pulse, which are both rock solid.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he had one uh last year called Cloud, which was pretty good. Oh, yeah, right on.
SPEAKER_01Okay, cool. Well, uh this time he's going period. And he's bringing us uh a movie about a samurai in 1578 who's being a great year, oh 1578. Don't even get me started. Uh but he's being held prisoner in his own castle by Siege Siege forces, and he needs to partner with a strategist, strategist prisoner who's being held captive in his own dungeon to help uh find a way out or that sounds awesome, win the conflict. It looks amazing. Uh can't wait. Fantastic director, and he's he's finally going doing a period piece about samurai's word on the street is that this is fantastic. So definitely, definitely go check that out.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's on that's on my list now. Excellent. Um, I'm gonna go back in time a day or so. Okay. Um on the 23rd. Uh uh comedian Steve Hofstetter is playing. Actually, I'm actually going to see this one. Oh, really? Yeah. Um I'm a big fan of his. Uh, I've just seen him on like YouTube and um Instagram and Facebook and stuff like that. See a bunch of his stuff. Yeah, he's very, very funny, uh, very acerbic, and he's great at putting down hecklers. So I'm I'm hoping there's some some hecklers in the uh courageous, courageous few in the audience. Yeah, maybe it'll be me. Maybe I'll heckle him. Yeah, just you know, just you're really great. Uh thank you. That's not much of a heckle. I can do better. I like your stuff. But uh yeah, I don't I don't know if this one's close to sold out or not, but um he's a funny dude. If you like uh stand-up comedian comedians, I might recommend him. Excellent. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Uh my next choice is way over on Friday, September the 25th, another late night date night at 11 30 p.m. A little something we like to call total recalls. This movie's a blast. Welcome to the potty, Richta. Go egg and give them the yeah. What was the one? Two weeks. Like it's just the the quotes that came out of this movie is so quotable. Uh it's great stuff.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we did this one for the podcast. That's right. Yeah, yeah, a couple of years ago. It's in so uh Paul Voorhaven, it's like yeah, it's classic.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, at his height.
SPEAKER_00Like Michael uh Michael Ironside is a great villain. Michael Ironside's Ronnie Cox.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Ronnie Cox doing uh just being another great bad guy, apparently super nice guy in real life. Yeah, but he's just excels the camera, loves him being a villain. Yeah, yeah. And then uh we've got a three uh three boobed dwarf firing a machine gun. It's like of course you do. It's unhinged, yeah. It's a fantastic movie.
SPEAKER_00It is, it is, and the with then when their helmets come off when they're on Mars, yeah, their eyes bulge out. Yeah, amazing.
SPEAKER_01Great, great practical effects. Late night, date night, Friday, September the 25th, 11 30 p.m.
SPEAKER_00Yep. Um, I had I was on the same night as the uh Dan Savages Hump Festival. Oh, yeah, always a good time.
SPEAKER_01Always a good time.
SPEAKER_00Yep. I haven't been, but I've been told go check it out if you're into some ribald entertainment. Yes. Um yeah, they're doing, I think, a couple shows on the weekend that weekend. Um and that's all I have for my picks.
SPEAKER_01That's all I have uh for my picks as well for the Rio.
SPEAKER_00Excellent. That's a great month. Great month. Yeah, and there's there's even more stuff that we didn't mention, but these are the ones that we wanted to highlight.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.

SPEAKER_00Yes, my current uh place of employment, one day a week right now.
SPEAKER_01And we're gonna go into the park theater. My first pick for the park theater is Buddy. Oh, I want to see this. It's a Barney the Dinosaur kind of show becomes a horror when the kids start to realize that they might be groundhog daying over and over again. Uh it's unhinged. Buddy the Unicorn is kind of like, yeah, like a Barney the Dinosaur kind. Very inventive horror from the mind of Caspar Kelly, who brought us the viral YouTube sensation a few years ago. Too many cooks. Okay. I don't know if you ever saw Too Many Cooks. I have not. I might show it to you tonight. No, excellent. It's only 10 minutes, and it's 10 minutes of your life that is well spent watching Too Many Cooks. Excellent. Excellent.
SPEAKER_00No, I've I've heard that um I don't know if it's true or not. You know, it's on the internet. There's a lot of parents that are upset and demanding, you know, refunds in the because they thought it was a kid's film. Idiots. Yep. Idiots. Do a little bit do a little just a modicum of research when you take your kids to see a movie.
SPEAKER_01That's like the time I went to see um Pan's Labyrinth. Right. And a woman dragged her seven-year-old out of the film after that guy gets his face smashed in by the wine bottle. Oh yeah. Such a grim scene. Super grim scene. Yeah. I blame that on marketing though. They were just like, it's a fairy tale.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Well, I because I didn't know that was that that was in that movie and that was that violent. Yeah. But uh yeah, it worked for me anyways.
SPEAKER_01But buddy, very harsh, very dark, very twisted, well worth seeing if that sounds up your alley. It's right up my alley. Uh September 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, check the parktheater.ca for uh for Showtime.
SPEAKER_00Excellent. Um and wedged in there on the 2nd of September uh at 5 55 p.m. is uh again a Michael Mann movie Heat, one of uh one of my favorite of his films. And it's uh it's a this is a movie to see on the big screen for sure, if not just for that great shootout in downtown Los Angeles.
SPEAKER_01Incredible sound design, all of it. Yeah, just everything. Yeah, and Janeiro and Pacino sharing the screen for the first time, yeah. Last time maybe. Yeah, I don't know. Yeah, magic.
SPEAKER_00It's a it's a great film. I think we did that for the podcast as well. But yeah, it's a great film. It's such it's so good. Yeah, so that's highly recommended.
SPEAKER_01All right. Uh uh two more from September the 1st. Hop back in time. All night wrong. Uh it's uh uh the good old blind date goes horribly awry. It's called All Night Wrong. All night wrong. Okay, like instead of All Night Long, it's all night wrong. Oh night wrong. Oh night. Uh starring Zach Cherry. Okay, who I I don't I'm not familiar with his name, but he's from Severance. Oh, yeah, I know who it is. One of the office guys from Severance and uh Maria Bacalova from Borat.

SPEAKER_00Right, she's got that famous scene with uh Rudy Giuliani.
SPEAKER_01Yes, uh yeah, I think that was her. Yeah, yeah. Oof. Yeah, that's uh balls of steel uh to do that. So there's uh there's money in the trunks of stolen cars, there's bodies, there's uh adventure. So it looks like a light, very fun time. Excellent. Tuesday, September the first at 445. Cheap Tuesdays, only ten dollars. Nice, nice, excellent. So that's pretty cool. And then also on Tuesday, September the first is uh a recurrence of It Ends. Okay. Uh four youths find themselves on an eternal stretch of forest road in a car that never runs out of gas while being pursued by random strangers. It's more of a thoughtful Twilight Zone episode than a horror per se. I do want to put that out there. Like, how would we all react to such a situation?
SPEAKER_00It's got some good creeps in it too.
SPEAKER_01Loved it. Really loved it. I saw it, it was a QA with the director afterwards there, Alex Ullam. What a thoughtful guy, what an intelligent guy. And the this movie took like eight years to make. Amazing. And it's incredible that it's in theaters now. So really, really good. Go for him. Go see it and uh recommend it. I've seen it too, it's quite good. Tuesday, September the first, nine p.m.
SPEAKER_00Cheap Tuesday, $10. Excellent. Uh on the 3rd of September and on the 5th, um, this is a little film called 2001 A Space Odyssey. Well, wait a second, we're in 2026. I know how that happened. This is in the this is Future Past. So this is like an old movie. I guess, yes. Um if you've never seen the big screen again, yeah, please do. And uh, I'm sure it's gonna be great at the re at the sorry at the park. Yeah. On their big you lovely screen and all that. Incredible projector, yeah. Yeah, yeah, it's a fabulous, fabulous film. It might be my favorite Cooper, it gets up there, anyways.
SPEAKER_01And uh also kind of dips into the dangers of AI, which is very relevant. That's right, Dave. That's right, Dave. Thursday, September the 3rd, 6.15. On Friday, September the 4th, at 420. Wow. At 420 with Coyote vs. Acme. Oh, you've seen this. Yes, and it's five out of five. I know. Might be my favorite film so far this year. It's amazing to me. I love it. Uh, they tried to cancel it and write it off at Warner Brothers, but fan clamor and protests. Like, this blows my mind.
SPEAKER_00They spent like what, $80 million or whatever making this movie. Yeah. And then they decided to shelve it as to for tax reasons or something.
SPEAKER_01Apparently, you can just write off a movie and then get $80 million, however much you spent on the film, which I think is a hole in the tax system. But if you've made a complete turkey, then I can see, okay, write it off, which is apparently what they did with Batwoman. But now I'm questioning if Batwoman was bad because they said, Oh, it was awful.
SPEAKER_00I don't even know what that is.
SPEAKER_01It was a movie.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay, thanks.
SPEAKER_01And they they did that, they wrote it off for Texas the year before last.
SPEAKER_00So did it didn't get a release at all then? It never got a release.
SPEAKER_01People who saw it said it was absolutely awful. Right. So maybe we all dodged a bullet there. But now that Coyote vs. Acme is so amazing, I'm like, maybe Batwoman was good.
SPEAKER_00I'm I'm really happy that this is good because it makes them, uh who's ever whatever studios came from, look like complete idiots.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah, catch-up entertainment bought it and distributed so they made money no matter what. Uh, but it's good for young and old alike, very who framed Roger Rabbit vibes. Excellent. Anyway, I just can't recommend it strongly enough. Definitely go see it in the theaters. It's only playing uh once so far, Friday, September the 4th of 420.
SPEAKER_00But if it if it's packed house, they'll they'll show it on the um my next pick is a film that you might not expect me to uh recommend on the 5th of September, one in the afternoon is John Travolta and Olivia Newton John in Greece.

SPEAKER_00I saw this twice in the theater when it came out in I think '82 or something like that. You saw it twice in the theater. I went and saw it twice in the theater. I loved it. You really enjoyed this movie. I did, I totally did. No, you're right.

SPEAKER_00This is this is not really in my wheelhouse of films. And I don't know if I've seen it since then, but it's so much fun. It's like a it the songs are great and it's uh it's all infectious, and Livy Newton John's great.

I've heard of that movie. Fantastic uh Tarantino's fantastic out-of-sequence story about two hitmen, John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson, and their terrible, horrible, no good day. Uh boy, do they ever not have a good time? No, they do not. It's also starring Bruce Willis, Uma Thurman, Christopher Walken, Tim Roth, Amanda Plummer, Ving Rames, Harvey Keitel, Rosanna Arquette, Eric Stoltz. Yeah. Ridiculous. Yeah. Ridiculous.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I'm sure most people have seen this, but if you haven't, go see it. And if you have seen it, go see it again.
SPEAKER_01It's such an electric thing to see in a pack theater, especially for a couple of scenes. Uh yeah, seeing it, seeing it blind was mind-blowing, but just seeing it with a group of people would be a really cool thing to do.
SPEAKER_00100%. Um, and uh my pick is on the 5th of um of September uh in the evening at 9 30 is um Blade Runner the Final Cut. Ooh. Yes. Uh so it well, this isn't my favorite version of Blade Runner. I'm still partial to the original one with the narration.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god, I'm so glad to hear you say that. I'm so sorry. Nobody says that anymore, and it's my favorite too.
SPEAKER_00Well, I saw it in the theater in 82 when it came out, and I loved it. And I just I loved the narration because it gives it that noir kind of feel. Yeah. Um, just another layer of uh interest to uh to me, anyways. Yeah. Um but the final cut's great too. This is still beautiful. It's still beautiful. And to see it on the big screen is it's magical. So it really is. Jeez, I might go to that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'll see it for my 30th time or whatever. I've seen it so many times. Uh and then Sunday, sorry, Saturday, September the 12th, they're also doing the Saturday morning all you can eat cereal cartoon park. They're all doing it at the uh at the park as well. So that'll be a tremendous, uh, tremendous amount of fun. If you're in the neighborhood and you want to relive your childhood or bring your own children, then uh or someone else's children. Or someone else's children. Put on your uh footy pajamas and come on down and eat some cereal and watch some cartoons.

Danny DeVito and Rhea Pearlman star as awful parents to a bright and intellectually curious child named Matilda. Fantastic movie. Very recommended if you haven't seen it. It's really good. I have not seen it.

SPEAKER_01It's it's wonderful. Yeah, it's really, really wonderful. And then Friday, September the 18th at 3 45 p.m. And Saturday, September the 19th at 9 30 p.m. Akira!

SPEAKER_01Neo Tokyo is about to explode. Oh, it's it's on my next page of it. Oh, there it is. Okay, yeah, based on the Katsuhiro Otomo manga uh or manga, this incredibly detailed, dense, haunting, gory, and adult science fiction anime movie is a feast for the senses and needs to be seen on the parks. Yeah. Incredibly huge.
SPEAKER_00I've only seen it on VHS. And so I know. I've I've been me I've I've I've been looking for like uh to take the Blu-ray home from uh the shop, but I keep forgetting. But now it's only playing on the big screen. Now is the time.
