Life Beyond The Sight Of Darkness
Life Beyond The Sight of Darkness was created for you — because I know what it's like to feel tired, unseen, and overwhelmed. I know what it's like to be stuck in a season that feels too heavy to carry alone.
I've been there. I've walked through blindness, trauma, and loss. I've had moments where hope felt impossible, where I couldn't see a way forward. And in those dark places, I learned something: God hasn't forgotten us. Even when we can't see Him, He's there.
This space — it's my way of reaching back. It's for the nights when you're hurting and don't know who to tell. It's for the days when you're just trying to survive. Here, you'll find honesty. No pretending, no perfect answers. Just Scripture, encouragement, and someone who understands.
Friend, I need you to know something: you're not alone in this. I see you. God sees you. And together — one day, one step, one breath at a time — we're going to find the light again.

What if everything you survived was shaping you for someone else’s breakthrough? Today, we trace a hard-won path through childhood trauma, homelessness, a toxic marriage, heart disease, and the slow work of healing to reveal how pain becomes preparation and survival becomes a calling. We unpack the quiet moments where purpose clicked into place—during divorce care, in the fog of post-surgery recovery, while learning to love again, and while navigating life with visual impairment—and show how each experience became a tool to serve others with clarity and compassion.
We talk candidly about founding a mission for three groups: people who are blind or visually impaired seeking confidence and practical skills, trauma survivors who need language and support to heal without shame, and anyone stuck in a hard season who’s hungry for hope. You’ll hear why purpose doesn’t have to be public to be powerful, and how one honest story can start a ripple that changes medical decisions, relationship choices, and the way someone views their future. This isn’t theory; it’s a field guide for turning scars into service through small, faithful actions.
Grounded in scriptures about comfort, calling, and hope, we frame a simple next step: choose one person this week and share your story with care. Not as a performance, but as a lifeline. Along the way, we preview what’s ahead—a moving story of reconciliation and restoration—and invite you to notice where people already come to you for help. If you’ve ever asked, "Why me?" this conversation offers a practical, faith-filled way to answer with your life. If it resonates, subscribe, share this with a friend who needs courage today, and leave a review telling us which moment sparked your next step. Your story matters more than you think.

I know exactly the sound you mean. That "shimmering" ambient electric guitar, soft organ pads, and a gentle piano that just breathes with the speaker. It’s that deeply spiritual, reflective atmosphere that invites people in. I’ve dialed in that specific Altar Call feel for you. How does this one resonate?
The Big Question: Why Me
SPEAKER_00Why did God carry you through what you've been through? Why did he spare you when you could have died? Why did he walk with you through trauma, homelessness, abuse, heart disease, and divorce? If you've ever asked, why me God? Why all of this? Today's episode is the answer. Over the past eight episodes, I've taken you through my entire journey. Episode one, Being Born Blue, Needing a Special Incubator, My Diagnosis with Ocular Albinism, and the Carol Center. Episode 2, Childhood Trauma and the Wounds We Carry. Episode 3 Multiple Experiences with Homelessness. Episode 4. We trace the quiet ways hope shows up at rock bottom and how honest faith and real community turn wounds into a witness. Episode 5, nearly dying from heart disease, the CABG surgery, and living with ongoing heart issues. Episode 6, a faulty marriage, abuse, and the divorce that set me free. Episode 7. Meeting Christina and finding real love. Episode 8, our wedding day and learning to trust God's disruptions. That's a lot. A lot of darkness, a lot of pain, a lot of struggle. And maybe you've been listening and thinking, okay, but why? Why did God allow all of that? What's the point? Today, friend, we're answering that question. Today we're talking about purpose, so grab your coffee. This is the episode where it all comes together. Let's go. The question I carried for years. For most of my life, I carried a question, why am I still here? Born blue, needing an incubator, I could have died. Growing up with childhood trauma, I could have been completely destroyed by it. Experiencing homelessness, I could have been lost in that instability. Nearly dying from heart disease, I should have died. If I'd waited one more day, I wouldn't be here. A toxic marriage that broke me down could have stayed, and let it kill me slowly, but I didn't die, I survived, I made it through, and for years I wondered why? What's the point of all this survival if there's no purpose behind it? The moment it clicked for me. The answer didn't come all at once. It came in pieces. It came when I attended divorce care and realized I can help other people going through this. It came when I was recovering from heart surgery and thought someone needs to hear that you can survive this. It came when I met Christina, experienced real healthy love, and realized people need to know faulty relationships aren't all that love is. It came when I looked back at my childhood, the trauma, the homelessness, the fear, and realized God was preparing me to help people who are walking through similar darkness. And slowly, piece by piece, it all started to make sense. God didn't waste any of it. Not the pain, not the trauma, not the fear, not the heartbreak, not the near death experiences. He was preparing me, building me, shaping me for this, for you, for this podcast, for this ministry. Friend, God doesn't waste pain. If you've walked through fire, it's not because he's cruel. It's because he's forging you into something stronger. If you've survived trauma, it's not random. It's because you're going to help other trauma survivors find healing. If you've been through heartbreak, it's not meaningless. It's because you're going to comfort others with the comfort you've received. 2 Corinthians 1 3 to 4 says, Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. Your pain is not wasted, it's your preparation. Your survival is not luck, it's your calling. Your story is not just about you, it's about everyone you're going to help. Why I founded this ministry? I founded life beyond the sight of darkness for three specific groups of people. One. People who are blind or visually impaired or about to be. Because I know what it's like to see the world differently through their eyes. I know the fear of losing your sight, I know the challenges of navigating a world that wasn't designed for eyes like ours. And I want every blind and visually impaired person to know you are not broken, you are not less than, you can live a full, purposeful, confident life. The Carroll Center taught me that, Susan Christensen taught me that, and now I want to teach you that. 2. People walking through trauma. Because I know what it's like to carry wounds no one can see. I know what it's like to have PTSD. I know what it's like to be triggered by situations that reopen old scars. And I want every trauma survivor to know it wasn't your fault, you're not broken, healing is possible and you don't have to walk through it alone. 3. Anyone struggling in life, going through hard seasons, feeling lost, wondering if there's hope, because I've been there multiple times. And I want you to know there is life beyond your current darkness. God has a purpose for you, and your story isn't over. My mission is simple. Help people find hope, purpose, and confidence again. Hope that things can get better, that God hasn't abandoned you, that there's light beyond this darkness. Purpose that your pain has meaning, that God has plans for you, that you're here for a reason. Confidence that you can navigate your challenges, that you're stronger than you think, that you're capable of more than you realize. That's what this podcast is about. That's what this ministry is about. Every episode, every story, every moment of vulnerability. It's all to say, you're not alone, there's hope, and your story matters. So let me ask you, what's your purpose? Why did God carry you through what you've been through? Maybe you don't know yet. That's okay. It took me years to figure it out. But I want you to start asking the question. Start paying attention. Where do people come to you for help? What experiences have you had that others haven't? What pain have you survived that you could use to help someone else survive? Your purpose might not be a podcast or a ministry, it might be being the safe person for your niece who's experiencing abuse, mentoring young people who grew up in broken homes like yours, advocating for better health care for people with chronic illnesses, simply being present for your neighbor who's going through a divorce. Purpose doesn't have to be big and public, it just has to be intentional. Ask God, what do you want me to do with what you've brought me through? And then listen, pay attention, follow the nudges. The ripple effect. Here's what I've learned about purpose. Your story doesn't just help you, it creates a ripple effect. When I share about my heart disease, someone else gets the courage to go to the doctor. When I share about leaving a toxic marriage, someone else finds the strength to walk away from abuse. When I share that I found love again after divorce, someone else starts to believe that second chances are possible. When I share about living with visual impairment, a newly blind person realizes they can still have a full life. One story, multiple ripples, and those people I help, they'll help others. And those others will help more people. That's how God works. He takes our individual pain and uses it to heal countless others. Your story matters more than you think. What I want you to take away. If you only remember one thing from this entire podcast series, remember this. God spared you for a purpose. Whatever you've survived, abuse, trauma, illness, heartbreak, loss, you didn't survive it by accident. You survived it because God has plans for you, plans to use your story, plans to heal others through your pain, plans to show the world his redemptive power through your life. Jeremiah tenity nine eleven says For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. He has plans for you, good plans, hopeful plans, purposeful plans. Don't waste your survival by staying silent about what you've been through. Tell your story, help someone else, be the light in someone else's darkness, that's your purpose. I feel in my heart there's someone in need, so I challenge this week. Share your story with someone who needs to hear it, not on social media, unless that's your platform, not in a big public way, unless God's calling you to that. Just one person, one conversation, one moment of vulnerability. Tell someone what you've been through. Tell them how God carried you. Tell them there's hope. Because that person, they're waiting for your story. They need to know they're not alone. And you, you're the one who can help them, so do it. This week, share your story. Please allow me to pray over you. Father God, thank you to every person listening right now. Thank you for carrying them through their darkness. Thank you for sparing them, sustaining them, keeping them alive for a purpose. Lord, reveal to them why you brought them through what they've been through. Show them how to use their pain to help others. Give them the courage to share their story. For those who are blind or visually impaired, I pray for confidence. Remind them they are not broken, not less than. Show them the full life you have for them. For those carrying trauma I pray for healing. Bind up their broken hearts, give them hope that they can be whole again. For those in hard seasons right now, I pray for strength. Sustain them, remind them this isn't the end of their story, and for all of us, help us live with purpose. Help us use our pain redemptively. Help us be the light for others walking through darkness. In Jesus' name, amen. Scripture of the day. Romans eight twenty eight says, and we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. All things. Not just the good things, not just the easy things, all things. The trauma, the heartbreak, the pain, the loss, God works it for good. He's working it for your good, and he's working it for the good of everyone you're going to help. Reflection question for this week. If you knew your pain could help someone else survive theirs, would you share it? Think about that. Journal about it, pray about it, and then act on it. What's coming up next? So far, we've covered a lot in eight episodes. We've walked through the darkness together. We've seen God's faithfulness through it all. But next week, episode ten is what I've been building toward and it's about reconciliation, about restoration, about what happens when God heals relationships you thought were broken beyond repair. It's about my relationship with my Father, and how God brought healing where I thought there could only be pain. It's going to be powerful. You don't want to miss it. That's next week, Full Circle, When God Restores. Before we go, I want to say thank you. Thank you for listening. Thank you for trusting me with your time, your attention, and your hearts. Thank you for walking through this journey with me. And if this podcast has helped you, if any episode has given you hope, helped you heal, or reminded you of your purpose, please share it, because there's someone in your life who needs to hear it. Father, for everyone listening, thank you for their lives. Thank you for their purpose. Thank you for the ways you'll use their stories. Go with them, lead them, use them. In Jesus' name, Amen. Share this episode with someone who's asking why me, God. Subscribe so you don't miss the reconciliation story. Leave a review telling us which episode impacted you most. Connect on social media or join the email list. And most importantly, share your story with someone this week.
