Commitment To Ohio State
SPEAKER_03You know, after I really sat back and really thought about, you know, this situation I'm going into, you know, I just understood that, you know, this like I couldn't pass this up. You know, it was too much of a blessing to, you know, go to Ohio State, um, you know, learn from guys like Jeremiah Smith, Carnell Tate, Brennan's, and, you know, those guys up there. And, you know, I just felt like it's a blessing that I can't pass up on. And so that would ultimately make me, you know, stay stay with Ohio State.
SPEAKER_02Welcome back to another episode of the Henry Legacy. I'm Staney.
SPEAKER_04I'm Chris, aka Man Man. I'm Demarcus, aka Bubba.
SPEAKER_02And we just want to thank you guys for all the love and support and positive comments that you guys gave us on our first episode. And shout out to all the people who were saying I was the best athlete out of S3.
SPEAKER_04Uh, since you guys last heard us from episode one, a lot has happened. And this, I'm in the middle of playing my season. Frazy compass. We're doing really well. And just I just picked up uh a ton of offers. Um I'm on 13th right now, and just yeah, a lot of things have happened since episode one.
SPEAKER_02Okay, bubbs, and I'm also in the middle of my basketball season with Ohio State. We're currently ranked number 19 in the AP polls right now. Uh, we're doing really good. We have a big game kind of coming up Sunday, and yeah.
SPEAKER_03And I'm officially committed to the Ohio State University. Um, you know, my signing day was a little more stressful than I thought it would have been. Um but you know, I'm blessed to be a buck guy.
SPEAKER_02We've got a lot of talk about about Man Man's signing day and all the chaos that went on that day and all the emotions and everything that was thrown in his way that day. And Bubba's blowing up and how he's doing with basketball. And so yeah, we're just about to get into it.
SPEAKER_04Let's go. You know, just knowing we're all busy and stuff, we all got our own lives going on, busy lives, and just being able to be in the same room. Does everybody like speak on that? Like how hard it was for us to just be together.
SPEAKER_02For me, with uh the season going on, I feel like it's pretty difficult because we're always on a schedule. Um, and the only day we get off is either one day or we don't even get a day off. So whenever I get at least like two or three days, I try to come back to see you guys. But most of the time it is hard because just because it's basically like our job. Basketball's our my job right now. And I can't, I don't get an off day. I don't get I don't get to like skip or wake up one day and be like, I don't want to do this, or like I don't feel like doing this. There is no that's not an option. So, you know, do what I can. And anytime that I get at least like two, three days off, I always come back to see you guys. You guys are very important to me. So feel special that whenever I get my off time I come back to you guys, the queen comes home.
unknownYes.
Holiday Traditions And Family Gifts
SPEAKER_03Yeah, no, it definitely is hard um getting us all here together at the same time. Um, you know, just because of like, you know, how far we live away from each other, all of us being in different states, and then, you know, just all of our schedules. And uh, you know, it's really it's tough. But you know, we're here together, and you know, blessed to be here, blessed to spend time with you guys, and yeah.
SPEAKER_02So since I have gotten three days off, so I'm back home with my family. We just moved to Arizona, or my mom and them just went to Arizona. Um, for Bubba, because he's in school. Man just graduated. High school, big graduate. Okay, how does it feel to be graduated?
SPEAKER_03Feels great. You know, I just been, you know, in California training. Um, came out here, happy to be here. Um, you know, I'm excited for college. I'm excited to, you know, be up there with you. And yeah, yeah, you know, I'm just I'm excited to see what the future holds for sure.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so since I have three days off, man's basically done with school. Um, we all just came together for the holidays. It was pretty easy to just come together for Christmas. Um, but you know we're together for the holidays, Christmas. Um, we usually just spend the holidays. A normal, I would say our Christmas holidays, like pretty normal. Wake up. We don't touch the presents at all. Me and my mom. Allowed to at all. Yeah. Okay, bubba. Yeah. Okay, uh, yeah, we don't touch the presents. Um, man usually takes all day to get out of the bed.
SPEAKER_04Well, he gets up at like 11.
SPEAKER_02He don't. Like, Ofo get up at 7 in the morning trying to wake everybody up. Mamma will take three days to get out of bed. But it's okay, because usually me and my mom, we wake up, cook breakfast for everybody. Then we open the presents after the breakfast is done. So I'd say our Christmas um is pretty traditional. It's normal. Like how every other family has their Christmas. Then we always have like a good dinner. This year's dinner is hot roast and rice.
SPEAKER_04Like you could cut that out. Yeah, though. Like, I don't even know what she's like because. Yeah, my mom's breakfast is top tier. Like, y'all gotta tap in. What about me? I didn't know. She'll make some stuff. My mom's breakfast tap in. Uh-huh. It's tap in.
SPEAKER_02Okay, period. Yeah. Who would y'all say is the best uh gift giver out of us three? I'll say this Christmas is this one. Okay. Yeah. Okay. It's this one.
SPEAKER_03For sure.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I try my best. I'd say mom. Mom's the best bigot.
SPEAKER_02Mom is Mom's the best gift giver. Mom's the best giver, period.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, she's a very giving person for sure. Yeah. Like we were at the um Irvine Spectrum before we left, and we ran into um President Brennan.
SPEAKER_04Mm-hmm. Modern day.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it was so crazy. And then mom uh got them some Adidas stuff while we were there. It was cool.
SPEAKER_02Mom's always thinking of other people and ways to give back.
Ohio State Women’s Hoops Momentum
SPEAKER_03She she bought the whole Adidas store for real. She literally will go buy everything for the game. Yeah, no, I'd say my mom for sure. Yeah, mom for sure. Um, you know, you're in basketball season right now. Um, you know, your team is top 25 right now. Speak on that for you, and you know how your experience has been.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, our season's going really good. We're ranked number 19 in the AP poll right now. Um, I feel like as every game goes, we get we get better. Uh I feel personally, um I just take it day by day, um, keeping God first. Uh recently we just had a game against Norfolk State. Um I had got the dub crown, which is just something that we do traditionally as a team of like who did good that game. And I got that, and it felt good just to know like all the hard work that I've been doing is paying off, but like game by game, it shows off. Um, I have a really good relationship with my teammates. I feel like this year. Um I've grown really close to them. Uh, somebody that is like my best friend right now on my team is Kylie. That's my dog. That's my dog. Shout out Kylie Kitts. She's my bestie. Um, yeah, we do everything together. So whenever this fool comes up there, me and Kylie are gonna be messing with me and man nonstop. So she's like another sister to me.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I know y'all just finishing up regular season and all that. Um, just how's um y'all uh transition from regular season to uh Big Ten play?
SPEAKER_02It's gonna be a drastic change, I feel like, because the Big Ten conference is one of the best conferences for women's basketball. It's one of the best ones. And uh the physicality will be different. The would have to be mentally tough. Um like it would be a huge jump. Um our first big conference, our first Big Ten team that we played was Northwestern. We beat them. So I'm excited for that and just excited for Big Ten play because it's a whole different ballgame once you get into conference play. All right. So yeah, I'm really excited for that.
SPEAKER_03How was it for you scoring your first college points? You know, how was that moment for you? Like, you know?
First College Points And Support System
SPEAKER_02Um, it was really exciting, just knowing like my whole journey, and it was actually off of a still and then a flash break, and I made a layup. And then after I made the layup, like all of my teammates were on the bench throwing their T's. So every time, anytime, anytime I score, like literally my teammates are spamming their T's. Either it's this or this. So yeah, I felt really good. And just knowing that like all my teammates, not only my teammates, my managers who literally rebound for me all the time, which is a journey. Um, they all believe in me, even my coaches. Shout out Coach Katie and Coach Ryan for always pushing me to be the best and believing in me. And Coach Ryan always reminded me that Rome wasn't built in a small time span. It was takes time, so yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, no, I've seen all the pictures and videos and them throwing the tears, that was tough for a horror. That was tough.
Balancing Classes And Athletics
SPEAKER_04That was horrible for sure. Yeah. Oh, yeah, it must be difficult though, like balancing like athletics and you know, schoolwork at a big school, like speak on that. Like, how is that it for you?
SPEAKER_02Um, I feel like it's pretty easy, at least for me right now, probably because I'm an underclassman right now. But um I do pretty good with managing my time and what I do and stuff. And being that everything's online, it makes it way easier. And then we have learning advisors, Mamma, you'll see, like they help us with everything. So really, like, it's not really failing, isn't really an option. Whenever it comes to school, like you gotta be lazy if you fail.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I think you're gonna be excited though. When Mamma's on campus with you, you're gonna be excited that let's go.
Siblings On Campus Together
SPEAKER_02Yes, I'm finna be excited. I'm about to be bothering him 24-7. Yep. Open the door, Mamma. Yep, all that you should for sure.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah. Y'all haven't lived in the same state for a minute, so it's gonna be like a new experience. Well, it's not gonna be a new experience.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I don't think it's gonna be new. It's gonna be different, but it's not new.
SPEAKER_02It's gonna be different just because like he's older, and now like I have to accept the fact that he's like getting older, and I have to respect him and sometimes give him privacy. And you know, like respect that he's getting older and can't really be big sister and be, you know, but I'm still gonna bother him though. But I feel like it would be the same, honestly. Like, he just lets me bother him whenever he wants. He don't ever tell me to like leave him alone. You too, Bubba.
SPEAKER_03Like, same. Yeah, I'm just excited. You know, I have somebody to cook for me. Um, you know, because I know I can cook, but I can't. Um, but yeah, I'm excited. Yeah, try though. You could cook too. Yeah, if I try.
Tattoos And Growing Up
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'm excited because I I don't know, like, these are like my first like kids, but not my first kids, like, you know, so like I'll be able to make them. I'm a grown man. I'm a boss. Bubba, man, man, what? I'm a grown man. Bubba, you're not even 18, you're still 17. Okay, what would you just show them? Tell them about that.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I got my tatted in Utah. Yeah, I got my mom's name with the tribal around it. Yeah. Finally, you know, tatted. Finally joined the crew. Joined the crew. How does it feel? I feel like a grown man.
Signing Day Shock And Coaching Change
SPEAKER_02Okay, grown man. Um, so man, man, being that you officially are going to OSU, Ohio State, um reflect on why you committed so early and like how the process was for that, and just like staying firm in your decision from basically what, freshman summer year, right?
SPEAKER_04Remember you posted on social media, you posted three hats. Right. And everybody was going crazy. It was like everybody was going crazy. You posted three hats, everybody thought you was for the flip and all that. Like, why was you trolling them like that?
Why The Buckeyes Still Fit
SPEAKER_03No, I don't really think I was trolling. I was really, you know, considering those schools. And then, you know, I felt like that night, um, no, I felt like I was really um, I made my decision that night, and I was gonna sign with Ohio State um the next day. And then I got a phone call on the way to um, on the way to signing day. You know, I was planning to sign with Ohio State that day, and um got a call from Coach Harlein, and he was, you know, letting me know that, you know, that he was gonna take the job at um the head coach of job at South Florida, and I was just like, I was just in shock. You know, I was planning to sign, you know, I've been committed there for, you know, three years, you know, mainly because of him and just, you know, our relationship. And uh, you know, that signing day, you know, I was just there. Just, you know, I didn't really feel confident signing. So, you know, I just was there, you know, just to be there, you know, all the family was there. Um, I was the only person that didn't sign that day from out of day signing. Um and yeah, no, it was just a lot that day to really just process, you know, I was getting a lot of phone calls and stuff, but you know, and I was just there was a lot of schools calling me, trying to flip me and stuff. Um, you know, Oregon, I had a great relationship, you know, with them. Been there multiple times, you know, I loved it over there, but um Oregon, Texas, LSU, you name it, West Virginia, like it was crazy. I was getting a lot of phone calls, but you know, ultimately made me stay is really just you know talking with Coach Day. Um, and you know, just really just hearing what you know their plan is for me and just you know what type of situation I I'ma be in, you know, the guys I be I'ma be around, the guys I get to learn from, the quarterback that I'ma have. And uh, you know, after I really sat back and really thought about, you know, this situation I'm going into, you know, I just understood that, you know, there's like I couldn't pass this up, you know, it's too much of a blessing to, you know, go to Ohio State, um, you know, learn from guys like Jeremiah Smith, Carnell Tate, Brand Annis, and you know, those guys up there. And, you know, I just felt like it's a blessing that I can't pass up on. And so that would ultimately make me, you know, stay stay with Ohio State.
Pat McAfee Announcement Story
SPEAKER_02So leading to your signing, you could you committed on um the Pat McAfee show? How was that? What feelings and emotions were you going through? Everything was so last minute, you know. So just talk us through that and yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, no, it was cool. Um, you know, uh I had my David reach uh my agent reach out to Pat McAfee. Um because, you know, it was such a big deal. You know, I didn't really realize, you know, how big not signing was gonna be for me. But, you know, I just felt like, you know, it would be really cool to just announce it on there. Um But yeah, nah, we announced it on there, we had all the family in the back, it was really cool. And then they start, they start celebrating and start yelling and stuff in the background, and then AJ Hawk asked me a question, and I really didn't hear him. I didn't even know we were still on. I thought we were done. And then I was like, I didn't know he asked me a question until like we all watched it back, and then like he asked the question, and then like everybody was just silent like we didn't hear him at all.
SPEAKER_00What ultimately led you to this decision, obviously choosing and staying with Ohio State?
SPEAKER_01No, it's um Jay. I just oh we're gonna be know we were still on, and it was just like awkward.
SPEAKER_03It was funny though, I ain't gonna lie. But nah, it was definitely a cool experience, you know. It was um really cool to be on your span, but I was just a blessing for sure.
SPEAKER_04After after you um made your decision final and on uh social media, you called hardline, like speaking on that call with because you guys had a close relationship, like yeah, just he was one of the main reasons, like explaining that conversation, how that affected you.
Biggest Jump From High School To College
SPEAKER_03Uh it was cool. You know, he was he told me that I made the right choice, and you know, I agree with that. You know, I feel like it was just the perfect situation for me. Um, you know, it was really close to my family, and you know, even though he left, he was happy that I went there. And uh um, yeah, that was a great call. Um, great call, Coach Day. You know, it was just everything was just, you know, excited, and you know I'm happy I made that decision. So yeah, that was a great call.
SPEAKER_02What's the biggest adjustment you think you'll have to deal with going from high school football to collegiate football?
SPEAKER_03Um, the biggest adjust adjustment for me, I feel like um, you know, I need to do is just really just um, you know, when I get up there to just really just learn from all the older guys, you know, really be a sponge to them and you know learn from them. But ultimately just, you know, the biggest competition is really just myself and just, you know, um, you know, just being, you know, all my bad habits and just learning better ones and you know, really just bettering myself for real.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so yeah, going back off of football and everything, you have a behind the scenes documentary coming up, coming soon, of your like whole signing and everything that went on to see your senior season and stuff. Um Yeah, talk about that.
Bubba’s Offers And Recruiting Grind
SPEAKER_03Yeah, so um I really just wanted something to, you know, be able to, you know, look back on, you know, my senior season and just uh, you know, have to be able to, you know, one day, you know, just show my kids or something like that. Just, you know, just some have something sentimental, you know, uh, you know, to look back on. And, you know, I just um for signing day, I think it was cool that we captured it. Um the moment, you know, I really didn't know where I was gonna go, to be honest. Just everybody calling me and stuff, and you know, Coach Harlan leaving. Um, just that moment where um Papa caught us all, everybody in the house together to, you know, pray about it. And I just feel like that was such a great moment to capture. And, you know, I'm just too blessed to, you know, be able to, you know, have this documentary coming and uh, you know, everybody stay tuned. It's coming soon. Um yeah, I'm excited for it. Bubba, you know, you're getting a lot of offers right now. Um, you know, how does it feel seeing all your hard work paying off right now?
SPEAKER_04Uh it feels good, just yeah, um seeing how all the work that I put in is just finally showing and just being grateful and just thanking God every day for all the help he has provided me and just putting me in a position where I am today, and just, you know, I'm very grateful.
SPEAKER_03Very grateful for sure. Yeah, and um in episode one, you talk about how your first organ offer was for you. Like, you know, does it still hit as hard as it does now?
SPEAKER_04All all the offers that I'm getting, it's just like a great feeling still. Like, it's still like a great, great feeling to give for sure. Yeah. Yeah, and things like that. So it's still a great feeling.
SPEAKER_02What is what is the process like for you with like recruiting? Like, how do you talk to the company? Coaches, is it through like DMs, mail? Like, do you get the letters and stuff?
SPEAKER_04Um, I I just be like staying in contact with my phone. They just be calling like every every day, like they'll just keep in touch with me. Just like a little text, just like happy holidays, just things like that. They just keep in touch with me, just sending the text over the phone, like we have conversations and things like that. So, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Right now, who you uh you know be talking to the most? Like, what coach in like school has been, you know, calling you the most?
SPEAKER_04Right now, um, I've been talking to LSU a lot, Ohio State, Oregon, um, I've been talking to Louisville a lot too. Uh yeah, it's been a lot of those, a lot of schools for real, but yeah. Alright, that's a blessing for sure.
Adjusting To Elite High School Competition
SPEAKER_02Being that you're in your junior year, junior year, next year you'll be in your senior year, it'll be around that time to make a dishes decision. Um, how are you hoping or how do you like feel like that process is gonna go or the decision's gonna be made?
SPEAKER_04Um, I haven't really put much thought into it, but I'm gonna just pray on it when it's the time's coming. Just um just pray on it for real. But I haven't really been looking into it, just been focusing on the season that I'm having right now with AC Compass for real. And I'm gonna just let that come after, probably after this summer, just see how I do um UIBL 17U. So just see how that plays out, and then I'll just pray on it, just have make my decision after that. But right now I'm just worried on the season I'm about to have and just how we better win Chipotle Nationals.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_03Okay, then yeah. Speaking on your um season now, you know, how that how that's going for you. You know, your team's obviously top 10 in the nation, and uh, you know, you've been balling, you know, just speak on that.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's been good. The season's been good. We started off 11-0, I think. We're 11-0. 3-0 conference play number one uh team in the conference. Um, so we're doing very well right now. We just gotta our chemistry is very strong. So we just coming out. We play like a top 10 team in the country when we come back. So right now we're number five in the country, so we just keep climbing up the rankings. But, you know, we definitely number one team in the country, and we definitely gonna show that when we play all these top teams coming up. But January gonna be a busy uh month. We're playing a lot of conference games and traveling a lot around the States. But yeah, we'll be a good start on the season for sure.
Practice Culture And Championship Standards
SPEAKER_03How is the um you know transition from AZ Compass from modern day is like, do you see like a difference between like the competition or is it like is it different at all?
SPEAKER_04It's a very different competition level. Like I face so much adversity being here, just playing against all these top teams and just knowing like that modern day you could score 30, but playing against these top teams, like scoring really doesn't help the team because you know the ball will be in your hands and you just distracting everybody from creating for themselves. So it's like you just gotta find other ways to impact the game with helping the team win. So it's like a different adversity for sure. Like it I'm just getting used to it, just starting to just find just different ways. Like I could just impact the floor without just scoring third, yeah, just going out. This yeah, it's like being a more overall player. It's definitely difference in the competition level, just playing against like top 10 teams every game. Yeah. Just being having to be able to just play your best, because one loss, and then it's gonna affect your whole team and just what you got going on and what you're building. So you just gotta stay focused every day and just come to the gym every day, bring energy every day, and just it's like you just gotta just no days off and just gotta just keep staying focused and just keep producing at a high level. So it's definitely a very different like situation.
SPEAKER_03Nah, I ain't gonna lie. When I watch y'all play, I ain't gonna lie, y'all tough. Y'all got crazy defense though. I ain't gonna lie. You know, how does y'all like practices every day like? Is it like, you know, for me, um, modern day, you know, on our team last year, um, you know, every day was competitive. You know, we were going against, you know, four four stars, five stars every day, you know, every day was a battle. Like, you couldn't come to practice like BS and like, you know, you gotta come every day with that that work ethic. Is that how it is for you at AZ Compass?
Timeline And Dream Offers
SPEAKER_04Yeah, Compass is very similar, like going against four or five stars every day, just competing at a high level. Like, that's what championship teams do. Just compete every day. And just like, if you're not bringing it, we're gonna hold each other accountable and just to see like every day you just gotta get better. Just you gotta just focus on all the bad habits you built and just make them good ones and just keep going every day and just be a good leader. Like everybody's leaders on the team. That's what really builds championship teams for us. Like, we're gonna be the number one team in the country for sure when it's all said and done. But we're gonna play this back when they number one. Number one in the country. Win Chipotle nationals, you're gonna see us with the trophy, all that. Free Chipotle stuff.
SPEAKER_03Speaking into existence.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Hey, hurt it here first. We're gonna run it back when we win Chipotle.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. How's the bond with you and your teammates?
SPEAKER_04Man, we're all really close. Like, they're my brothers, like John Trip, K5, K Caden, Jay, like everybody. We all close. I got a bond with every single one of them. We all close. Like we like living in the same house, so it's like they're my brothers. Like, they just help you through hard times. You having a hard time at practice, they'll pick you up. You feel me? Just like anything like you need, like, you having problems at home, like they dare to pick you up. You feel me? Like, they're my brothers for sure. Like, we all close, the coaching staff, like we all cool. Getting the gym, they dare for you. Like, it's like crazy. Like, this is a championship feeling. We definitely gonna win Chipotle.
SPEAKER_01Huh?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Yeah. I know you got a lot of time, you know, still for high school, but you know, when are you hoping to, you know, like make a you know, a commitment or a decision?
Goals For 2026: Faith And Performance
SPEAKER_04Um, I'm looking toward like after summer, just let this season play out, then when summer comes, because that's a big life period, so just still weighing on a more couple schools just to, you know, just offer me, but like just see, because I just want to see like all my options. Like, I just don't want to jump into like, okay, just if this is the best for me, like I just want to just see if there's a better option for me, just to help me develop and grow into the player I want to be and just get me to the next levels, just which is to be in the NBA for sure. So just gotta wait.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Speaking on, like, you know, weighing all your options, is there like a dream school or like that? Couple offers that you're waiting for waiting for?
SPEAKER_04I need Duke.
SPEAKER_02Yep.
SPEAKER_04Okay, Duke, Kentucky. Yeah, just tap in.
SPEAKER_02Tap in, tap in with my boy.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. That's why I'm just waiting for the summer. So I show them, show them that I deserve to be a blue blood type of player. But yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um, what are some personal goals or overall goals that you guys have going into the 2026 year?
SPEAKER_03Uh for me, I feel like one of my personal goals is just, you know, just have better habits, you know, become better with, you know, certain habits. And um one athletic goal, major athletic goal that I want to achieve this year is freshman all-American. Um, you know, I've already started to write my goals down and stuff, and freshman all-American and just have better habits.
SPEAKER_02For me, one personal goal for myself is just to be a better me, um, a better big sister, a better person, a better young woman overall. Um, locking in with my relationship on God as well. Um, keeping it first, because keeping it first, all things will fall in place after that. So that's my personal goal. Oh, and I do have a personal goal that I've started December 1st. Um, I'm on a 635-day one-year um Bible journey. So reading the Bible in one year. But yeah, so just completing the whole Bible in one year. That's one goal that I have started already.

SPEAKER_04One major personal goal that I have for myself is just um just strengthen my faith in the Lord, just just praying every day, um, praying every night, praying every morning, just reading my scriptures, and just staying locked in on that because you could do all things through uh the Lord, so you just gotta just um make sure you stay focused on that. And one major athletic goal I have for myself is uh be a top five player in the country and just went to pole eight nationals.
