Quick Life Updates And Plans
SPEAKER_02What's up you guys? Welcome back to the Henry Legacy. I'm Saney.
SPEAKER_00I'm Chris, aka Mammoth. I'm Demarcus, aka Bubba.
SPEAKER_02So just catch up with us. Um Mammoth just got to Columbus with me and then Bubba on his Arizona Compass journey. And then he finished up that starting up EYBL and then just talking about all our journeys and getting up getting caught up on our busy, crazy lives. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And like always, we appreciate y'all tuning in. Make sure y'all like, comment, and subscribe to stay up to date with us. Let's get into it.
SPEAKER_02Before we get started into the episode, we're gonna start off with a fun game. It's called One Nice Thing. So we're gonna go around and we had to say one nice thing about each other. I'm super excited. So we'll start with actually we'll say the best for last. Let's start with Bubba Mimmy. You go first.
SPEAKER_01Chill, not too much glazing, though.
SPEAKER_02There ain't too much to glaze.
SPEAKER_00You go first, and then say okay. Anyways, I'll start. Uh no, one thing I have nice to say about Bubba is just, you know, his work ethic. You know, I love his work ethic, you know, just his ability to just keep going and just, you know, whatever he's going through, just to persevere and stay resilient.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. One thing nice that I have to say about you, Bubba, is that well yeah, what Mahman said, your work ethic, you work very hard and you inspire me in that way. And then also one thing nice I have to say about you is that I can always count on you to make me happy. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I love you. Love you, bro. About me. Love you, bro. Fuck it. Okay. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Who's next?
SPEAKER_02Now, me and me and we're seeming the best for that, so you're next.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah. Yeah, say some nice stuff about me too.
SPEAKER_02Bubba, you go first.
SPEAKER_00You go first, bro. You go first.
SPEAKER_02I'm the best. I'll go first. One thing nice I have to say about Minmen is that um, once again, like Bubba, you're a very hard worker. And even though you're quiet, um, I know I can always depend on you. I can always count on you. Like with me being in Columbus, like, I know like if I want to do anything, I know that even though you even if you don't want to do something, you're still gonna do it because I want to do it. And I really appreciate that because it makes me happy. And I know like even whenever you don't want to do anything, you're still gonna do it because I feel like, well, I don't know, because you don't talk like that. I feel like you're just gonna do it because you know that I want to do it, and I really appreciate that because it goes a long way for me, because I really love you guys, and I really love being around my siblings, and you guys are the main people that make me happy, and being around you guys makes me happy. So just being able to have a key to your apartment, come over whenever I want, and just being at your house even whenever you're not there, and just being like, Hi, Meah Man, you don't even be like, Why are you here? You'd be like, What's up, bruh? Like, easy your little what's up, bruh, has been meaning a lot to me because I'd be like, Oh, Miami Man really loves me. He doesn't care that I'm here. I'd be feeling so special. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I love you too.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I love you. Thanks, man. Yeah, I'm not gonna cry.
SPEAKER_01Oh, one nice thing about uh Christopher Henry Jr. is Damon. Damon Henry Jr. is you know, it's like uh just be an inspiration to me, man. Just being able to just like lead the way for me and just like just keep just helping me just grow through whatever I need to go through and just you just being there for me in my lowest and my highest moments, king. So I'm just like grateful to be your little brother, and I'm just like so happy like that I learned it from you. And like, yeah, yeah, bro.
SPEAKER_02I have something, I have something else to say. Um, one nice thing about you guys is I'm very grateful for you guys because I'm gonna cry again. Let me get my tissue. Whenever I'm going through, like the hardest times. Like even though like I don't really like vents you guys, I know that you guys are gonna tell me what I need to hear, not what I want to hear. And I just really appreciate that because I know you guys are always gonna push me, like whenever I'm going through stuff, like y'all are gonna like y'all always make like even though I'm the oldest, I still learn a lot of things from you guys. Whether that's through basketball, whether that's through life, and you guys push me every single day to be the best version of myself, and you guys push me to like always work hard and you guys see me doing whatever I want. Like, you guys don't like put limit limitations on myself. Like, I put the limitations on myself. You guys open everything for me. You guys make me see what I can be rather than what I think I cannot be. So I really love you guys, and I appreciate you guys. What do you mean? Can you guys cry with me? Dang, golly.
SPEAKER_01Okay. All right, well, all right, you go first.
SPEAKER_02Wait, let me stop crying first. You guys better cry whenever you guys are talking about me, because I cry whenever I talk about you guys.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no, I don't really have one nice thing just to say about Sani. You know, she's really just like, you know, everything you ever want, a big sister. You know, you could always rely on her to, you know, just to just like if you have questions on some, just like anything in life, you know, I could I know I could go to Sandy and ask her about it. Um and yeah, she's just like the best big sister. I don't really know how to explain it more than that, but you know, I love you and um I appreciate you.
SPEAKER_02Where's your tears at?
SPEAKER_01One nice thing about Sany is man, this is a whole bunch of things for real. But like, like he said, man, you're just the greatest sister anybody can ask for. Like, you just begin to meet through stuff that's you know.
SPEAKER_02Stop! I want to cry here. Yes, you can.
SPEAKER_01Love you, bro.
SPEAKER_02Love you. Aww. This is Bella's first time crying on the episode. See, no, he really loves me. Oh, maybe he hates me right now because I'm making him cry. But yeah. We weren't expecting this to be this emotional, but yeah. Love you guys.
Sani Reflects On March Madness
SPEAKER_00Love you too. Love you, bro. So, Sany, uh, you know, talk to us about you know your season and you know how you uh you know feel about that.
SPEAKER_02Um, our season finished up good. We made it to the tournament, March Madness. We made it to the second round, but we lost. But overall, it was a really good season, I feel like, because we started off unranked, and you know, we lost a couple players to the portal and then also to the league, the WNBA. And we started off unranked, and a lot of people thought like we wouldn't be as good as we used to be, or we wouldn't live up to it, but we ended up proving everybody wrong. We became what 10th? We're in the top 10, uh, made it to tournament. Like, we did really good. We had a really, really good season. So um, I'm overall proud of my team and what we accomplished this year, and being able to just prove everybody wrong whenever everybody doubted us. And we did a lot this year, so I'm proud of that.
Faith Lessons And Blocking Noise
SPEAKER_01For sure. Do you have any takeaways on uh your season? Like what what did you learn from your season?
SPEAKER_02Um, I feel like this season taught me like to lean on God a lot. Um the season didn't play out like how I wanted to personally, but I don't take it for advantage. I don't take it for advantage of it because I learned a lot through this season. Um yeah, it just taught me to lean on God a lot and trust him and trust his plan and his way and not relying on what I want and what I see my vision, but to trust his vision and see what he has for me and trust that he got me in. Knowing that everything that I want or like anything that I know that I can get or that I want, it's gonna all fall in fall in fall in place because I'm trusting him, trusting his process and staying close to him. So knowing that whatever I'm going through, like it's just for right now and it's just building for that whenever I get to where I want to be, it's all worth it. And I've got right beside me. And yeah, but it just taught me a lot. And um yeah, I'm grateful for that. And it just taught me to work harder, work harder, ignore the outside noise, and don't listen to what people gotta say, what anybody gotta say, and just keep the ones and listen to the ones closest to you. And for me, that was you guys and mom and like all my coaches. So yeah, I don't take this season for granted though, but it taught me a lot. And next season, yeah. It's that it's that's there won't be another this season.
TCU Win And The Bus Crash
SPEAKER_00Yeah. What was your uh you know, favorite memory or game or play from this season?
SPEAKER_02Um, I feel like my favorite memory um of this season, let me think. I feel like it was the TCU trip that we took in New Jersey. Um I have a vlog out on it if you guys want to go watch it on my YouTube channel. But um y'all crashed the bus. Yes. It was a very yeah, we actually got in a bus crash the first night we got there. But it was my favorite trip because we went in there, TCU was like, there's a lot of hype behind TCU, like everybody thought we was gonna lose to them and stuff. But we went out there and we we beat them and we put a lot of people, we we silenced a lot of people on a lot of outside noise whenever we beat them. But yeah, I feel like that was the best um my favorite memory. Um, because we just proved a lot of people wrong and we leaned on each other, and after that, we knew it was that we knew we could be something special. But even before the season, like we knew we could be something special. But that went right there, showed everybody, like, yeah, like I see, yeah. Nah, for sure. And just the memories we made, like we went to New York City, Times Square all together, got some pizza. What do we do? I think we rode the train. Yeah, we rode the train all together. Mind you, none of us are from New York, but we have Elsa on my team. Elsa, she's from Finland, she's very smart, so like she was navigating us throughout the whole thing. So we went to New York, we got pizza, we were just doing a whole bunch of stuff, but it was fun. And then we got a bus cast the first night. It was just a lot of stuff that went on, but we still went there and we handled business and had fun while handling business. So I'll say that was my favorite memory of or slash game of this season.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no, I make sure y'all tap in on that vlog too. Yeah, it was a good vlog.
SPEAKER_01So we heard that uh you're playing for the Tonga national team. So, like, speak on that, like what are you excited about like this summer playing for them?
SPEAKER_02I'm really excited playing for the Tonga national team. Uh, one because one, Tonga is a very small island, and I'm just very grateful to be in the position that I am and being able to be selected to play for them, to show other little um Tongan girls, not even Tonga girls, like any Polynesian girl, like no matter where you come from, like you can do this. Like, no matter when you start, as long as you keep working and keep doing what you need to do, like you're gonna get there, like no matter what it takes. So I like look up, I'm I'm just excited to be able to be in be in that position. And right now, a lot of like little polygirs always like text me or like I see them in person and they're always like inspired by me or like you know, happy to see me. So I'm just grateful to be that role model for other little girls like who want to play basketball or like or doubting themselves, like you can do this. So yeah, I'm really excited for that. And it'll be a different experience being able to go out the country. The only time I've been out the country was for the Bahamas with my team this season. So I'll be able to go to like New Caledonia, I think. I think that's what it is. But being able to go out the country and just being able to experience that and being able to play basketball, and then especially with other Polynesian uh girls, so it'll be very exciting because Polynesians were very strong. Don't matter if I know you for a long time or if I just met you, like I'm really excited to experience that. So yeah.
SPEAKER_00Oh, for sure. That's gonna be a dope experience, for sure.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
The Book Message For Girls
SPEAKER_00Um, you know, talk about, you know, you're releasing a book next year. Um, you know, what is the main message, you know, that you wanna, you know, get to the world.
SPEAKER_02Um, me and mom have been working on a book, just like on my whole basketball journey. And the main message of the book is just like letting little girls know like you can get to where you want to go, as long as you, like I said, put the work for it and you know, believe. Like confidence is everything. Like knowing that you're gonna get where you want to get and nobody gonna stop you. The only person who can stop you is you. So that's really the main goal of the book because there's a lot of people telling me who I wouldn't that I wouldn't go power five. That the biggest college that I would go to is like maybe like HBCU or something. Like, I would never be able to go power five now. I'm at one of the biggest schools in the country, the Ohio State University. And not only that, like we're a good program. So being able to just show little girls like you can do it, no matter when you start, because I started late, I started like in the seventh grade, going into eighth grade year, and I didn't play like like um basketball for like uh school until my soft my freshman year high school. So just showing little girls like you know, no matter when you start, no matter when you start, you can you can do it as long as you just keep going, keep pushing yourself and you know believe in yourself and have the confidence and know that you can do it. Like, so yeah. Mom, it was actually mom's idea though. So mom's idea, because I didn't really throughout my whole process, I never really thought of it like what I'm going through. I always took it like day by day, like get better every single day, go work every single day. I never really looked at it like, oh, like look at all that I've accomplished until mom really put it in perspective of like everything that I've been through. So mom's the one who came up with the book, and then I was like, damn, I really went through all that. So it it's I feel like it would be inspiring for little girls.
SPEAKER_00So yeah. For sure. I inspire.
Ohio State Transition And Campus Life
SPEAKER_02So enough talking about me. Sorry. Enough talking about me, mamma. Let's talk about you and your transition to Ohio State and everything.
SPEAKER_00Uh yeah, nah, so my transition to Ohio State's been great. You know, it's you know exactly what I expected um coming into it. You know, it's tough, you know, it's hard, you know, nothing's gonna be given to you. So, you know, I just came in with the mindset, you know, that I'm gonna earn everything I'm gonna get. And uh, you know, that's what, you know, that's been my mindset.
SPEAKER_01Sure. So how's life been on uh the campus so far?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no, the campus has been cool. You know, I ain't really um had too many classes in on campus, I only had one in-person class um this semester, but it's been cool, you know. I'll just go into class and just, you know, some of the uh students will see me and they'll recognize me and you know want to take a picture and stuff, and you know, that's been cool. Um, you know, everybody's been great, you know, everybody um like the staff, um still the whole environment at OSU has been great. So you know I'm just I'm I'm blessed.
SPEAKER_02So with you being there, you know, what's I have to ask, what's my favorite, what's your favorite uh meal that I've cooked?
SPEAKER_00Dang it's been a lot of loads, bro. You've been you've been cooking a lot.
SPEAKER_02Hey, like I made him uh the last meal that I made for him whenever I was there was a loaded potato, baked potato, but it was like shrimp. It was like loaded baked shrimp potato or something. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I made hope, but yeah, what's man it's a lot like low-key, everything she made cookie made fire, so it's like a lot to choose from, but um my favorite was definitely the chicken because the was it in the air fried air fried chicken or something like that. I made a lot of chicken stuff. Yeah, so because that's my favorite food, so it was definitely um some type of chicken that she cooked that was fired.
SPEAKER_02Oh, the chicken with the rice and stuff?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And I cut it up? Oh yeah, that was good. That was so cool. Oh, with the potatoes? Oh yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00It's not a good thing. I gotta make you that.
SPEAKER_02It's healthy. It's healthy too, because you don't like to eat healthy.
SPEAKER_01Bro, why are you saying that, bro? I eat healthy, bro.
SPEAKER_02No, you don't. First thing, first thing whenever he comes to Ohio for Mearman, he goes in the pantry. Where's snacks at? Where's snacks at? Knowing that Meerman eats healthy. He's over here trying to find chips.
SPEAKER_01He had jalapeno chips.
SPEAKER_02Guess who bought them jalapeno chips?
SPEAKER_01You.
SPEAKER_02Exactly. And they were wide, they weren't even touched like that. Okay. They're gone. Yeah, they're gone. All the chips. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I think we had snacks in the channel.
SPEAKER_02I need to I need to that aren't touched though. We need to get you on. We need to get you. Bro, I eat healthy, bro.
SPEAKER_01I eat mom's cooking, bro. Alright, so now that Sandy's with you, like, how is that experience with uh that?
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah, nah. It's been it's been it's been cool, you know, just you know, having um, you know, just somebody to just kick it with. You know, it just like like I'll come home randomly and like she said earlier, I'll just see her and be like, oh, like what's good. Like I didn't even know she was there, but I'll be like, oh, it's good, and I'll see her. And then it just feels good to just know that, you know, I have her there. Um even though I just like I'll be just playing my game, just knowing that she's at the crib is just cool. And uh it's just nice to have her there. And uh, you know, I'm just grateful that we go to the same school and that she cooked good meals for me. And yeah, you know.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and like I said in the I think it was the last podcast where we're talking, I do have my own key to this apartment, and I do have my own room to the apartment too, and my own closet. We share closets too.
SPEAKER_00No, we don't. Yes, we do. We don't share, they take, but it's family stuff.
SPEAKER_02No, we borrow and we return.
Earning The Black Stripe Off
SPEAKER_01No, they don't. But anyways. So um we've seen you officially got your black stripe removed. So like speak on your experience with all that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, nah, yeah. Uh, you know, obviously I came in uh House Day with just, you know, high expectation just because of like you know, all the hype and stuff, being a number one receiver, you know, in high school. Um and you know, the starting spring, I think, you know, I started off the spring really hot. I feel like, you know, I my very first play, uh like from practice, I scored like a 65-yard touchdown post. And then, you know, just from there, I was you know, I was feeling myself, you know, I was hot. And um, you know, I was just thinking to myself, like, yeah, nah, my black strife off gonna come off quick, like, feel me, because I was just making big plays like that. And uh, you know, I just felt like, you know, just because I was making big plays that, you know, I was just gonna get it off. But, you know, I ended up not getting it off for like a couple of practices. I didn't get it off to like the very last practice that you can even get it off, because um, you know, it was just I had higher expectations. Like, you know, Coach Day, you know, I I respect him for this. Like, you know, he held me to, you know, a higher standard to, you know, get my black stripe off. So, you know, I had to really, you know, work for it. So, you know, I'd asked him, like, you know, when I didn't get it off like, you know, early, or like when I felt like I expected it to be off, I asked him like what I need to do to get it off. And he told me that, you know, I just need to be more physical and just, you know, change my my mindset and my mentality. And, you know, I appreciated that him for that. And just, you know, after he told me that, you know, I just attacked practice different. And, you know, I just I'm starting to see the results and you know my mentality and stuff. So yeah.
SPEAKER_02Sure. That's good. Um, being with that throughout everything and you being there, who are some of the guys that you click with so far on the team that you bond with, that you hang out with outside, you know?
Bubba’s AZ Compass Season Recap
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no, I'm definitely the closest to on the team. Uh Quake Guilford. Um, you know, I've I met him at the Navy All-American Boat. We were on the same team, and you know, during that time we got really close. And uh, yeah, nah, that's been my guy since I got onto campus, and you know, he's just been pushing each other to get better every day. And just, you know, he's a great person to be around. Um, we'd be on the game all the time. And yeah, nah. And a lot of the uh, you know, freshmen I'm cool with, and just, you know, most of the guys I I've been known for a while, and yeah, nah, just quick. That's good. Yep. Yeah, so Bubba, update us on, you know, AZ Compass and you know how y'all season been going.
SPEAKER_01Uh yeah, we just finished up from Chipotle Nationals, you know. Uh we lost in the final four, but it was a great experience just being out there, Chipotle and like finishing top four in the country is just a blessing in itself. So yeah, that's how our season ended. But yeah.
SPEAKER_02How'd you feel like this season? You know, on the last podcast, you were saying like how y'all were gonna be number one in the nation, you know, go to Chipotle and do all that. Feel me? How do you feel like the whole season as a whole played out for you?
SPEAKER_01So like we did fin we finished number one in the country, so we was number one seed going into uh Chipotle, so yeah, man. I thought we just had the team, you know, to win it all. But just to like God does like everything for a reason and just it's just better you so I'm just gonna go with that mentality into next year so just knowing that it's just gonna push me like to just be a better leader. It's just God just trying to teach me a lesson and what I need to learn. Just be a better overall player and just be a better leader. And I feel like that's what I just need to be like next year I just need to lead the guys just coming back being a returner. So that's probably what God was just teaching me just to be because I there was like chances I could have been a better leader on the court and I just didn't take full advantage of it. So that's I'm just like God just trying to relay a message to me. So but the whole overall season man it was just a great experience like learning from all the coaches all the players like all the seniors like Caden Kalick John Willie Elijah all those guys man just great people to be around and just I got brothers from that season alone and just learning from all the guys just to just take that in. And it's just a great overall experience and just uh a lot of long lit long connections I grew connections with everybody on the team it's just a it's a great experience.
SPEAKER_00Oh for sure. Yeah speaking of that like what do you feel like you improved on the most this season?
SPEAKER_01I improved on just like just being an all-around player just playing hard that's really what I feel like I improved on just being somebody who just you know just being very talented not really like knowing for how hard he plays because that really wasn't my like style of play and just like going to compass just like seeing how they play hard and just like how they just like are just tough. Just they just really emphasize tough toughness out there. So just going there just trying to get on the court just I just embraced the culture. So I embraced it and just I just picked up on playing hard and this is just that became second nature to me so I just play really hard and just played hard on defense and yeah that's probably what I improved on the most now that you're you're done with AZ compass and stuff you finished out pretty good.
SPEAKER_02Well actually great um you're getting a lot of national attention right now and um give us an update of like where your headspace is with that and like your rankings and everything because everything is like blowing up for you like that blowing up for you fast like that really fast for you and like how is that for you navigating through it and the rankings and everybody hitting you up like you know it's a lot for you you know yeah the rankings part uh I'm number 10 player in the country right now but I feel like I'm still not satisfied I feel like I should be up there top three top three in the country so I'm just attacked this summer like with the mindset that I know I could be one of those top three guys because I uh when it's all said and done I feel like I should be one of the like going into like the NBA I should be one of them top five draft pick lottery picks so I feel like to finish this season I'm just like try to kill this summer and just make sure like after this summer I'm gonna be a top five player in the country.
SPEAKER_01So with all the attention and stuff it really like doesn't really get to me because I I learned from this guy. I mean he got all the attention in the world and so like knowing how he handles himself it's just like it's like second nature to me like I said so I'm just like it's like whatever but else feel like it's not enough like I'm just never satisfied for what I got and I feel like I'ma just keep just keep going and just keep stacking days and uh till where I I really know where I could be and I feel like I'm the best player in the country. So I'ma just attack every day with that mindset.
SPEAKER_00Bro that's a mindset you gotta have. You know you checked off most of your goals so far.

SPEAKER_01You know what are some things that you want to accomplish um you know this this year um with all my goals like I got all of my junior like the goals I have for my junior year I checked them all off so that's just a blessing but goals I got for this come upcoming year to um uh all I got all my senior goals I'm trying to be a McDonald's all-American Jordan brand classic or all those type things but I just really want to just like overall just become a better like leader and just have a like a positive attitude on everything like on like life itself you feel me just attack every day with like positivity and just like staying positive through it all but really my goal is to be like a top three player in the country and I feel like I I have the ability to and I the potential to and I feel like I just gotta just uh just chase my potential like it's me versus me I'm gonna just attack every day just keep stacking days and it's just me versus me so I just feel like that's the ultimate goal to be a top three player in the country.
