On November 5, 1975, seven loggers were driving through the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest when they saw something that shouldn't exist: a glowing, golden disc hovering in the pines. Moments later, 22-year-old Travis Walton was struck by a beam of energy and vanished into the night. What followed was a five-day manhunt, a murder investigation, and a homecoming that would change the world of ufology forever.

The night was November 5th, the place, the rugged, pine-swept mountains of Snowflake, Arizona. Seven men went into the woods to earn a living with their chainsaws. But one of them would enter a nightmare that defies the laws of God and man. The lager's terrifying encounter with a blinding light in the sky shatters the lives of the group of friends, forcing them to confront the unthinkable. Tonight, we present a tale of the onyx wave.
SPEAKER_01The air is crisp, the scent of pine needles sharp, the towering pondarills of pine stretched towards a rapidly fading sky, painted in hues of orange and deep purple.
SPEAKER_02Alright, boys, last load. The sun's dipping fast. Let's get this hold out of here. Let's get it done.
SPEAKER_01Travis walks toward the truck. His movement's fluid. He stops.
SPEAKER_02Hold on a second. Hey, you guys hear that?
SPEAKER_01The low rumble of the truck engine in the distant sounds of the forest fade. A high-pitched, a hum begins to permeate the air. It's subtle at first, then grows louder, vibrating through the ground. What in the They all look up, scanning the darkening sky. The hum intensifies, becoming a low throb that seems to shake the very trees. Then they see it. A blinding, pulsating light, an impossible fiery orange, appears from behind a ridge. It's not a plane, not a helicopter. It's too large, too silent, and moves unnaturally.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god, what is that?
SPEAKER_01The light hovers directly above the trees, directly over their logging site. It's a disc shaped, though the intensity of the light obscures its true form. A strange, almost magnetic hum fills the air, making their teeth ache.
SPEAKER_02Get in the truck now.
SPEAKER_01Mike, despite his fear, is the first to react, scrambling for the driver's side door. Travis, however, is mesmerized. He stands rooted, staring up at the impossible object. His face is a mixture of awe and fear. A sudden, powerful whoosh of air descends from the object, like an invisible hand pressing down. Dust and pine needles swirl around Travis. The hum becomes deafening. A single intense beam of brilliant blue-white light shoots down from the center of the hovering disk. It hits Travis square in the chest. A primal scream tears from his throat. Cut short as his body is violently hurled backward like a rag dog. He lands with a sickening thud several yards away, his head striking a log. The blue-white beam retracts. The pulsating orange light of the disk seems to brighten for a terrifying moment. Then with an impossible speed, it shoots straight up into the sky and vanishes, leaving only the ringing silence of the forest. The men in the truck are frozen, wide-eyed, gasping for breath. Mike, though trembling, throws open his door. He scrambles out, followed by the others. They run to where Travis lies motionless on the forest floor, his body twisted at an unnatural angle. His eyes are wide open, staring blankly at the now star-dusted sky. A faint, acrid smell hangs in the air. Mike kneels, his hand hovering over Travis's neck, afraid to touch him. He can't find a pulse. The men stand in a circle, numb with shock and terror, under the vast, indifferent sky. Thinking Travis is dead, the friends scramble out of the area as fast as they can. Later, Sheriff Lester begins an investigation into Travis's disappearance.
SPEAKER_02Now let me get this straight, Rogers. You're telling me a flying saucer struck Walton down with a bolt of lightning? And then he just vanished into thin air? I know how it sounds, Sheriff, but we looked. We went back to that clearing. There was nothing there but a patch of scorched earth and smell of ozone. Snowflake is a quiet town now, boys. We have cattle rustlers and we have drunks. We don't have Martians. Now, did you boys have a dispute? Did Travis fall into a ravine? It took him. It was like a blue hand reached out of the sky and plucked him off the earth.
SPEAKER_01Five days later, five days passed. Five days of suspicion. Five days of the town's whispers turning like knives against the survivors. Were they murderers or were they telling the terrifying truth? Travis Walton is discarded from the mysterious craft. He is naked, covered in a thin, slimy film. His eyes are wide, unfocused, filled with a primal terror. They found him, cowering in the cold, five miles from where the light had struck. But the man who returned was not the man who left. He looks disoriented, trembling violently. Travis was taken to a hospital. When asked by Mike what happened, Travis responds. He shudders, closing his eyes, tears squeezing out from under his lids. He opens his eyes, his gaze fixed on some unseen horror in the distance. He tries to speak, but only choked sounds escape his throat.
SPEAKER_02Things. The eyes.
SPEAKER_01He struggles to push himself up, eyes darting around the room as if they are still there.
SPEAKER_02I remember the table? The needle. They were they were doing things to me. It was white. So white it hurt. The doctors. They weren't doctors, Mike. They had eyes like the holes of the hands. It wasn't. They touched me with cold silver fingers. Don't let them touch me. Don't let them come back.
SPEAKER_01The room is silent. The men who witnessed the fire in the sky. And the man who returned from it are forever changed.
SPEAKER_02Easy, Travis. You're home now. You're safe. Safe? Mike? I looked out their window. I didn't see the forest. I didn't see Arizona. I saw the stars, Mike. And the stars were below us.
SPEAKER_01Was it a hallucination, a mass hysteria, or did Travis Walton truly cross the threshold into the unknown? We may never know the truth. However, all of the friends passed their polycrass. So the next time you look at the stars, remember the bright light that appears out of nowhere in the night sky may be looking back at you.
