SPEAKER_01

Hi, I'm Ava. And I'm Abby. And you're listening to Ender's Afters.

SPEAKER_00

Where we use East Enders hot topics to talk about our real worlds.

SPEAKER_01

And have a good gossip. Welcome to the afters. Welcome to the afters. So, Abby, what's your storyline?

SPEAKER_00

Would you stay in touch with your ex's family?

SPEAKER_01

Not if they're for like anything like Gray's family.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, for real.

SPEAKER_01

Psychopaths. Psychopaths. Like, psycho, psycho.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's got to depend on the ex, really, isn't it?

SPEAKER_01

Sometimes in relationships, the family make it ruin your relationship because they're cuckoo ness.

SPEAKER_00

Click, click, click, click, click.

SPEAKER_01

Clack it. You know what I mean? Yeah. Sometimes they can have a really big influence on your relationship. 100%. And that's what's happening in East Dennis at the moment with Grey and his mum. She's worming her away from.

SPEAKER_00

I said his nan. Yeah. It's his nan. Bloody hell. But he got raised by his nan.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, because oh, because he's so fucked up life because he's that's why he's a loony.

SPEAKER_00

That's why he's loony.

SPEAKER_01

Not all loony's by fucking.

SPEAKER_00

You know, yeah, no, no.

SPEAKER_01

Um, yeah, they do. Um, oh, I didn't know that was his nan. But yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Yeah, I think it's got to depend on the family, but yeah, I think a lot of the time the families are the ones that like put things in their head and stuff like that.

SPEAKER_01

Like, and a lot of the times it's sad when you break up with someone because you say bye to their family.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

That's why I'm keen on not meeting the family till quite late on, I'll be honest.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I agree.

SPEAKER_01

I'm I'm like that. It's like you need to keep that because sometimes the dynamics change when you know the families and stuff, because it's like, God, now you're really in it. You can't leave.

SPEAKER_00

No, and like, but also you just have your family's opinion. I don't know if you want them. I'm quite lucky, like, I haven't got I've got a big family, but in terms of things like that, I haven't, if you know what I mean. Like, I'm close with not much of my family, but like my mum wouldn't even bloody give me an opinion. But I know other people give me an opinion.

SPEAKER_01

No, but in a good way, she just like supportive, do you know what I mean?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, um, but my friend the other day was like about to introduce a guy she was just seeing to her mum because her mum was coming down from like where they where they're from, and I was like, um, oh my earrings coming out, and I was like, um, I was like, already, and she was like, Yeah, it's been three months. Three mums, but like also it's been three years, yeah. But also their three months, like, you know, like even with when I was with my ex, we went hot and heavy from the beginning, right? So our three months was a lot more intense than other people's three months. Um, but I even our three months was way too soon as well. This girl has been normally dating him for three months, not even hot and heavy for three months. Me and my ex have planned our lives out by three months.

SPEAKER_01

And when you're younger, it's very charged like that, isn't it? But yeah, no.

SPEAKER_00

When you're younger, it was literally last year.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, that one. Sorry, I thought it was different.

SPEAKER_00

No, my other ex, we weren't my last ex, we didn't, it would not go on every night. You weren't meeting no parents, but um when you're young girls.

SPEAKER_01

Even like friends, friends like to leave friends out as well. Yeah, have your moment for as long as you can because if you're willing to spend the rest of your life with someone, then you're gonna meet them anyway, and it's regardless.

SPEAKER_00

That's actually one of my regrets, you know, is that like not that I introduced them to my friends, not at all that more just that I made a point of introducing rather than letting naturally happen. Like, you met my ex because we lived together.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, you did you forget that?

SPEAKER_00

Did you know that, guys? Um, but like ramming it, yeah, ramming it down your throat, yeah. You're like organising it, like I kind of wish you didn't.

SPEAKER_01

Like the energy is like next step, next step. Sometimes like the steps are what puts pressure on you when people start to freak out. Yeah, all these unspoken languages in when you're getting into a relationship. That's why I just think go with the flow, find out who this person is. If you naturally meet the parents and stuff, fine. Yeah, and it's something comes up where you kind of need to And everyone's situation is different, and maybe you you know you're a bit older and it's different, like you're quite old, whatever. But you get what I mean?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, especially But yeah, I don't know what like I I wouldn't I wasn't in any rush when I was in my last relationship to meet families.

SPEAKER_01

No, when it does happen, it's nice, yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure.

SPEAKER_00

And also it's a lot Ten years later, it's nice to meet you! I've never yeah, I've never met family in a proper setup. I did meet my other ex's mum, but like I was I was we were still friends at the time, just kind of seeing each other, so I wasn't introduced as a girlfriend. My first boyfriend, I met his mum because we were like young and he lived at home still, but I didn't even really chat to her to be honest. I've never met it in a like meet the parents way. How's it how was it for you?

SPEAKER_01

Um with my partner now. Yeah, yeah, it was nice because they're really nice and they live in Spain, but um would you stay in touch with his family if you broke up? Probably like um the odd text. The odd Merry Christmas, yeah, for sure, because they're really good people.

SPEAKER_00

He would definitely stay in touch with yours, wouldn't he?

SPEAKER_01

You don't know my partner.

SPEAKER_00

Oh yeah, maybe in the fact that he doesn't. Yeah, he probably would. He he might not text back, but like I feel like he gets on, but I feel like he gets on so well with your family. Your mum could still talk to him, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure. And you're yeah, your mum that's what I mean. Like your parents.

SPEAKER_01

Um there's in previous relationships it's giving me the ick. Yeah, I'm like, I don't want to meet them.

SPEAKER_00

I know, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I don't want to be like, I don't know about it. I don't want to see the baby photos, I don't want to hear stories from back in the day, I don't want to sit there and be bored. Oh, the small absorbed of it all. Or talk about me.

SPEAKER_00

The small talk of it all. I can't bring your rainbavy pictures with you. I'm like, oh yeah, I've actually seen them.

SPEAKER_01

Hi, lovely to meet you. Yeah, but it is lovely at the same time.

SPEAKER_00

Well, if you get some goodens, it's lovely.

SPEAKER_01

But my partner's family, they're lovely, they're the perfect family, honestly. Oh perfect.

SPEAKER_00

Well, Denise ain't having any of it anyway.

SPEAKER_01

No, I'm so glad she's come back. That scene where she was like that whole episode, she'd shut them all up. Loved it, I loved it.

SPEAKER_00

It was so true to how it would be. She weren't having it, and the way she was like, get around it, right? Yeah, I loved it. So every now and again an East Enders episode comes at me, and I'm like, I fucking loved watching that.

SPEAKER_01

I love the whole dynamic of their family, it feels so real because you've got the auntie and like their stepdads, yeah, yeah, yeah. Like yeah, they you really feel like they're going through something, and it's they are it's so sad for Denise.

SPEAKER_00

The way she is playing it is absolutely sensational.

SPEAKER_01

I've been loving it.

SPEAKER_00

I'm gonna say it. She's up there with Steve McBallin. Diane Parrish! We love you. We raise a glass to you, darling.

SPEAKER_01

Well, she is part of the furniture. She's I believe 20 years. Her and Kim are icons.

SPEAKER_00

Icons.

SPEAKER_01

But um, yes, I'm 20 years, you know. It's gonna be interesting to see how it all plays out as well how they're gonna do it.

SPEAKER_00

Can I get a web on the 20 years?

SPEAKER_01

20 years! That's why you think they're gonna kick her off the shoulder. Yeah, that's why that's what I meant earlier. I'm not having it, I don't want to hear anyone.

SPEAKER_00

I don't think she's gonna unfortunately die through this leukemia story, don't you?

SPEAKER_01

I think this week at the end, she was like, I'm gonna fight this. Is that them saying you're gonna die?

SPEAKER_00

No, I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

You know how they plant Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

No, but she's saying she's gonna fight it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, she's gonna fight it. So are we gonna get all like yay, and then they're gonna just gonna fucking kill us with that. Jack's gone through Ronnie dying. When Jack cries, I cry. He's so good. He's the best as well, really.

SPEAKER_00

When you cry, we cry.

SPEAKER_01

We yeah, the nation cries.

SPEAKER_00

The nation cries when Jack Brandon cries.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, he's such a good actor. Yeah, he is great.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I think he was crying in it this week.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, he's so good. Oh my god.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I think they are, I think it's gonna be a real heightened, strong, beautiful ending.

SPEAKER_01

Because I did see a clip of Kim wheeling her around.

SPEAKER_00

He's breaking my heart again already.

SPEAKER_01

It's of him wheeling her around like they're in the airport, they're like having sister fall, and I was like, God, is that her last day?

SPEAKER_00

I think it is. No, no, no, they're gonna have I think it is.

SPEAKER_01

No, I think Yeah, I think you're right. Because you can't have such a huge thing like that, leukemia, and then because they keep talking about the percentage of her living from this type of leukemia. Nah, but it's extended, anyone can get for anything.

SPEAKER_00

Anything, yeah, but also people get killed off left, right, and centre as well. I think Denise is gonna die.

SPEAKER_01

It's so sad Um we'll I'll see it while I see it.

SPEAKER_00

I'm so sad. I'm already upset.

SPEAKER_01

Alright, let's bring the move back, guys.

SPEAKER_00

So No, it'd be devastating, but that's it, that is my prediction.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but how is I think so, I think that Grey's gonna be linked into this. Do you know that?

SPEAKER_00

What, into her illness, you reckon? Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

They said something, which I've forgotten. He said something that in prison of if Denise dies.

SPEAKER_00

Oh yeah, if Denise dies, she's gonna need a grandmother.

SPEAKER_01

She's gonna need a grandmother to be in the family. So somehow he's gonna worm his way out because he is a psycho and he will worm his way back in, even behind bars.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So yeah. Maybe she maybe she gets close to Denise and like starts giving her the right medication and stuff like that.

SPEAKER_00

Oh god, that would be awful. If she's gonna die, she needs to just die. I don't want it to be killed. I think it's gonna be heart-rending. Because it would be unjust, so unjust. But I think it would get sped along or something. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's I think so. You said as well that you think that the the Nan has something to do with Ian thinking he's going to prison.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, the lawyer. I might be wrong, but there's something nanny. He assumed he was gonna go to prison and everyone's like, no, you need to fight it.

SPEAKER_00

But the lawyer was like I reckon he'll go to prison and get a little spatical for two years. No, but they only ever get six months in East Enders. Do you know what I mean?

SPEAKER_01

Oh, he's out on a pill. I don't think he's gonna go down. I think something's gonna come to light about the Nan.

SPEAKER_00

Do you re yeah, maybe before he You're like, we've got to talk about Ian going to prison?

SPEAKER_01

I'm like, I haven't gone to prison yet. Yeah, like it's definitely gonna happen.

SPEAKER_00

So Ian's in prison. Yeah, that's what I keep thinking's gonna happen. Do you know what was joke? What cracked me up this week when he was like to feel, um, when he was like to feel, can I uh say your name when I get in there? No, I know Can I use your name and feel that my name don't own anybody in there anymore.

SPEAKER_01

I know. What made me sad was when Kim was putting off going to see Denise because it's like that when you when someone's ill, you don't want to see them ill with a lot.

SPEAKER_00

Especially a personality like Kim. She like her defence mechanism is humour. So for her to actually have to be serious is probably a bit hard for her.

SPEAKER_01

I've seen her sister like changing, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Oh how Kim's gonna be if they kill off.

SPEAKER_01

I don't like I want to see it when I see it, please. I don't want to know. You don't oh I don't know. I'm just predicting. I don't want to have that.

SPEAKER_00

You don't want to talk about it.

SPEAKER_01

No, no, no. Storyline in my head. I can't go.

SPEAKER_00

I know. I'm already sad about it.

SPEAKER_01

So I'm really glad that Denise came back and had words with everybody about Sheila. Yeah. Because Chelsea is getting weak again through Grey's touch.

SPEAKER_00

She actually is, isn't she?

SPEAKER_01

She's really annoying when she's like, back off, it's my family. It's like, why wouldn't classic EastEnders of like, why would you not listen to your family? And now you're choosing this woman over your family. I know. And your son, who is the family.

SPEAKER_00

I'll call it, I know it's a bit deep, but I actually just think Chelsea kind of wants the easy way out because of like the guilt she has around Jordan. Yeah. And I think she kind of wants the easy way out of like, you know, like you know how she says she's like not really maternal and that. It's like like as a mum, you would just like pull your fucking bootstraps on, find the money. I'm not saying it's easy, and I'm not like the the world's against her, like I get it. I'm not saying it's easy. It's always 10 grand somewhere else. She's like, oh well, someone can just give me five grand, she's willing to just like sell off.

SPEAKER_01

And Libby was in her ear being like, it's his nan, it's his nan. It's like that's grey's nan.

SPEAKER_00

I feel like lit that's that's not very Libby like coded because she's normally a bit more like black and white, like no, you can't. Yeah, so yeah, I suppose it's just part of the storyline.

SPEAKER_01

But nice to see Libby.

SPEAKER_00

Lovely to see you, Libby. Are you gonna stick around? She was getting the train, wouldn't she?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, she's gone back, but she might come back.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I'm sure she will.

SPEAKER_01

But yeah, that really annoyed me. It's like you're really gonna choose this woman, and she's got no control of Sheila popping in and out of his life. It's like, babe, get some get some discipline going, yeah. Maybe it could work. Eventually. Give me the money, maybe it can work. Boundaries, boundaries, boundaries and 15 cases. What does Meredith always say? I'm disengaging. Yeah, disengaging.

SPEAKER_00

I'm disengaging.

SPEAKER_01

Disenging. Yeah. What's your final drift of?

SPEAKER_00

My final drift of is I don't give a fuck about the baby pictures.

SPEAKER_01

Keep the baby pictures away from me. Let me live my life in Ibiza. I don't want to come over. Exactly for the barbecue. Alright, I'm a vegan. Not gonna lie, some families are a hoot though.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely. If you get a good one.

SPEAKER_01

When the families are a hoot, I'm there.

SPEAKER_00

If you get a good one.

SPEAKER_01

Well, when, if they're not, keep it over there. Yeah. What's that's it?

SPEAKER_00

This is why I really have like a boundary on having a posh boyfriend. Yeah. I just don't think I could ever have a posh boyfriend.

SPEAKER_01

I know.

SPEAKER_00

Because I'd be going around there like, you're right, fucking watching these endings, fucking, fucking.

SPEAKER_01

I know, and you do feel the difference naturally.

SPEAKER_00

Bloody lately.

SPEAKER_01

It's good to be able to swim. Even if you're confident, you do feel the imbalance of like I am! I'm not Mendabi!

SPEAKER_00

I am anyway, yeah. Gorgeous.

SPEAKER_01

Anyway, I any parent love you.

SPEAKER_00
