Speaker 1Saw that.

Speaker 1I currently have a playing game for the nba playoffs behind me. The Grizzlies are beating the piss out of the Luka Doncic-less Mavericks as they're down by 17 with 10.5 left in the third quarter. Miami Heat are wrapping up their game against the Atlanta Hawks when they will play as the 8C going into the Eastern Conference playoffs against the number one seed Cavs. Nhl playoffs also start this weekend. A lot going on, mr Cruz, you had. April has been a great month so far in sports. A lot of people talk about how great the month of April is. You have the national championship in basketball. That wraps up the big tournament which Florida beat the Houston Cougars in Very chalk tournament. All one seeds, except in the ladies tournament. There was just one two seed, who was UConn women's Huskies, and they also went on to win their 12th national title 12th national title by the way, pb baby Number one national title. By the way, that's right, paige Beckers gets drafted number one to the Dallas Wings, I believe, mr Cruz was watching the WNBA draft, stunned, stunned.
Speaker 2I watched at least halfway through the first round. Man, that's more than what I thought I was ever going to do. We got some good picks. We got some key players. I hate to say it this way, but I wish I could remember their names. You know what it was entertaining to watch. Washington Mystics had 3 out of the first six. That was crazy. Just going ahead, a lot of draft capital used up. I felt like they made good picks, good players. It was interesting to see Paige Beckers, like you said, number one overall. These last two Classes, I want to say, of rookies, are going to and have changed the WNBA landscape so much and you know it's an exciting time for WNBA fans fans fans, fans.
Speaker 1They got more than one fan. Yes, fans, this was cool to see fans, yeah, fans, fans.
Speaker 2They got more than one fan, yes, fans. But yeah, man, this was cool to see. I mean, it was bigger than it, like the draft was bigger. They had like 200 people there, so you know, it was cool.
Speaker 1Hey there it is, hey there it is.
Speaker 2I mean it was cool, like you is. I mean, it was cool like you know what. It was cool, let's go. And I also like uh I can't remember her name, but uh, there was a teammate of pages that, like, just went there to support her, didn't even expect to get drafted. It got drafted early later on the night oh, that's, oh, that's pretty cool.
April's Exciting Sports Landscape
Speaker 2Yeah, like it was completely like Paige just shouted her out and saying like, oh yeah, teams should draft her. She was there not even expecting to get drafted and she got drafted. I thought that was a really cool, surreal moment for her. I wish I could remember her name, but you know, Yukon Huskies going ahead making noise.
Speaker 1That's right. Paige Beckers is the. I believe she's the sixth UConn women's player to be drafted number one the same year that they won the title, which is crazy considering just the plethora of players they've had throughout their um, throughout their history. But Gino gets it done. He, he is 12 and one in national title games. I mean, look, you could say what you want, you could say what you want about him. And uh, you know, it's the, it's women's basketball, it's competitive as fuck and it's still uber impressive. I mean, that's more titles than John Wooden, who is, I mean, arguably the greatest basketball coach of all time, and the people that he had. So you had that. Yeah, it is super impressive.
Speaker 2You had that going on in the beginning of the month and then just real quick before we go on anything else sticking with the WNBA draft.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2Thank God Sedona Prince didn't get fucking drafted. Oh, sedona Prince. Teammate of HVL Haley Van Liff.
Speaker 1Who rich rich is loving some HVL recently yeah.
Speaker 2Got to, got to, but the thing is Sedona Prince. Nothing but controversy. Domestic abuse, allegations from four different people, the ES, the ES.
Speaker 1Well, looks like some technical difficulties on Mr Cruz's end. Yep, he's got some technical difficulties over there, but that will. That will fix itself here in a minute. Yeah, sedona Prince multiple allegations of fucking, abuse and harassment. She's a big woman coming out of TCU and, yeah, teammates with Haley Van Luth this past season. I think she's been at TCU for the last three years. Yeah, it's terrible. I'm just super shocked that. I mean, nothing ever came to the allegations and she was just able to just play and call it a day and just have no issues.
WNBA Draft and UConn's Dynasty
Speaker 1Aubrey Griffin, I believe, is the team member you were looking for from Paige Beckers from UConn Only average eight points, five rebounds. She shot 53% from the field though all year. That's mighty, damn impressive. She was drafted third round, second to last pick in the draft, nailed a run on the head from UConn I had no idea because it was Paige Becker and AZ Fudd really running the show there and they got a great team, a great freshman who just finished her freshman year and Shannon Strong over at UConn who will be coming into her sophomore season. So it's going to be a good future for UConn women's basketball, future for for UConn women's basketball.
Speaker 1Um, but yeah, you had WNBA at the beginning of the year. Then you had um Alex Ovechkin breaking Wayne Gretzky's all-time goal record. For though it, you don't have to watch hockey to appreciate the greatness of Ovechkin. He's 39 years old. He had 44 goals this year. He broke his leg, missed 16 games. Wayne Gretzky's goal record is one of those records that you just thought would never be broken. It's up there in the Estrilon of Will Chamberlain 100 points in the game, joe DiMaggio's 56-game hitting streak, uconn women's basketball winning 111 games. There's just a bevy of those untouchable top-tier Mount Rushmore records in sports, which is what makes sports amazing being able to see that unfold. Finally, it's been the chase all year, got it done the the end of the year right into the playoffs, and it was just remarkable. And mr cruz is back online. Yep, you are crystal clear, my friend.
Speaker 1Um, let's just just get catch up with the listeners. Sedona prince. Yeah, she's just abusing the fuck out of people and harassment's left and right, I mean, and she was able to play all those years at TCU. It's just really surprising that she didn't. You know nothing. Nothing was really brought to her from an evidential standpoint, but I guess it's neither here nor there. But Aubrey Griffin is the UConn teammate you were uh, looking for. That. Got drafted second to last in the draft. Um, yes, but she yep, aubrey griffin, from uconn pagebackers, his teammate. Um, I was just talking about obi breaking the wayne gretzky scoring record and just just, you don't have to be a hockey fan, you don't have to watch hockey, but to understand the the feat of that record, in particular from gretzky, and to see alexander ovechkin from the washington capitals. He spent the entire 21 years with the team to break it, after breaking his leg and missing 16 games. I mean, it's just, I mean it's, it's mean, it's a rare moment, yeah, legendary.
Speaker 2I mean, don't get me wrong. Like Gretzky, let's call it what it is he's still the greatest NHL player of all time, but Alex Ovechkin is the most feared scorer of all time. He is the most feared with the puck in his hands and he's going after that net. I mean we were watching it, we were meal prepping and we had it in the background and we saw Ovi's shot man and it just it's like he hasn't. Of course he's got a little bit slower, but he still has that killer instinct. It's after 21 years. I mean it's crazy the wear and tear that a hockey season brings on your body.
Speaker 2Yeah, one to roll 21 seasons with that, two to do 21 seasons with one team. Don't see it anymore. You don't. You don't see that type of loyalty, and it's just. You know it was a magical moment. They had a really nice like. Everybody in that arena that night appreciated what happened and how it happened and it was a cool moment to see, especially as a DC sports fan. It was very cool.
Speaker 1Yeah, it pissed me off online because people like they took the scoring moment and tried to make it into a different narrative of like who's the greatest of all time? And it's just, it's not about that, gretzky. Gretzky is the greatest all-around hockey player the nhl has ever seen. It's not even close. Everyone's like, oh, what about his assist? Or what about his points? And x, y and z? Ain't about that. Okay, this 894 was a record that stood with, like Joe DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak, the Wilt Chamberlain 100 point game, like it was up that Mount Rushmore of untouchable records in sports that you just didn't think would be broken, the home run record by Babe Ruth, the Hank Aaron and now it's Barry Bonds. Like it's just, you don't see those moments often and it was really cool to just see everybody, especially as he got closer and closer, like the away teams and the opponents they were cheering him on when he scored. I mean they understood the magnitude of that record. So that was really cool to see.
Speaker 1Um, we got got got some shock, shocking news this week, depending on who you asked. But uh, lee Corso, the great Lee Corso, from college game day, after 38 years he is retiring. He will be 90 in August. Um, he's been. He's been the, he's been the face of College Game Day for a minimum 30 of those 38 years. Obviously he's had some health issues the last couple of years and it wasn't looking great for him on TV and you started to see him limit his appearances in airtime and just making his headgear pick. Sometimes he couldn't even be there to do it.
Speaker 1So you know, you had Rhys Davis and Desmond Howard and Kirk Curbstreet really kind of step up, but it was a set. I was sad. My inner childhood was saddened by that, because that is what I grew up watching Saturday mornings. It was Kirk and Reese and it was Corso, this fiery, short old man just in the masses with the fans, the gimmicks, the costumes, the head. I mean, what a traditional spectacle he was able to take in a two-hour program. Back in the day it didn't start at 9. Back in the day it started at 10 and went to noon and then it expanded to three hours, which I love, but it was tough to read. It was tough to read for me. It just reminds you of the times.
Speaker 2We're getting older, times are changing, errors are ending. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it is something that is to appreciate, it to be appreciated and something that you can reflect on Between watching college game day, getting into college football, playing NCAA even then, and having Lee Corso be a key part of all of it. You know it's cool man and you know, like you said, he has been dealing with some struggles lately and it was evident, kind of remind me we were talking about this before we even started the podcast. It's kind of like good old Terry Bradshaw on football on Sunday Fox. I think he's on Fox. Yeah, he's on Fox.
Speaker 1Yep.
Ovechkin's Historic Goal Record
Speaker 2Sometimes you've got to know when to call it and sometimes it goes a little bit past that. Nothing against Lee Korso. He's definitely a legend in his own right. I wish him the best in his retirement. He definitely deserves it. He's got to be 90. To be working, and at least trying to work up to that point, is amazing in itself. Uh, you know, seeing him and kirk herb street's relationship grow over the years as well, yeah, uh, to be more than just uh, like more than just acquaintances and work, workplace buddies, growing a true bond between them. It was something, man, it was something.
Speaker 1Not so fast, my friend. As Lee Corso would say, he's got one more show in him, august 30th, week one of college football. It's Ohio State at Texas. I got some all-time numbers here, coach Corso. He's picked Ohio State 45 times in his 38 years. So Brutus the Buckeye was the first headgear pick he made on college game day. My anticipation is it would also be the last pick that he makes for college game day. My anticipation is it would also be the last pick that he makes for college game day. You've got to.
Speaker 1He's picked 430 mascots across 69 different teams. He's been correct 66.5% of the time Over 38 years. That's impressive. 66.5% of the time Over 38 years. That that's impressive. Yeah, I'll say you want to make some money and keep it, to just Keep it to one game, keep it to the headgear game. Pick my Corso, you're up. You're up massively Over the 38 years. He had a perfect season where he went 11-0 in his picks In 99. You're up massively over the 38 years.
Speaker 1He had a perfect season where he went 11-0 in his picks in 99, and he's got three teams with multiple picks and no losses. He's picked USC 17 times. He's 17-0. Picked Virginia Tech four times. He's 4-0. He's picked North Dakota State three times 3-0. I mean, call what you will, you can call it luck, you can call it a toss-up. He's picked North Dakota State three times 3-0. I mean, you call it what you will, you can call it luck, you can call it a toss-up.
Speaker 1Whatever man, he was also a coach. He was a coach for decades. I mean the man. His analytical game may have declined over the last couple years, but winning's winning, he was on it. Winning's winning, yeah, he was on it. His top, his top five, most headgear selections Ohio state, like I said, 45. Alabama at 38. Lsu 25 times. Florida 22 times. In Oregon, good old duck at 21 times. I'm surprised Notre Dame wasn't up here, but now that I look at these teams, it definitely rings a bell to me.
Speaker 1And then, before we get into speaking of Colorado, before we get into some Boulder Colorado news, rory McIlroy won the Masters and I gotta tell you, outside of Tiger Woods winning in 2019, it was probably the most compelling and probably the most. It was probably the most compelling and probably the second best final round of golf I may have ever watched in my entire life. Um, because of the roller coaster ride that roy mcelroy put you on. So he won the masters. He creed, he completed the grand slam in golf, which is winning all four majors. He's only the sixth player all time to do that um. It took him about 11 years essentially, to finally win the masters, as it was his 17th appearance, um, at augusta and he entered the final round with a two-shot lead, took one hole, he was tied, lost two shots after one hole. Then he's down a shot after two holes and then he gets to the back nine and he has a four-shot lead.
Speaker 1The probability of losing a tournament of any capacity on the back nine of the final round with a four-shot lead. I don't know what the numbers were, it's probably pretty low. And then you get to 13 and he chips it. He 99, 999 times out of 1,000. Maybe 1,000 out of 1,000. He's about 85 yards away on a par five and he just chunks it into the water. If he redoes that shot any other day of the year, any other tournament of the year, he hits it on the green. He just hits it on the green. At worse, he two putts it for par, chunks it into the water, double bogeys.
Speaker 1He goes from a four shot lead on the 13th hole and by the 15th hole he is tied for first and by the 16th hole he is down a shot. I mean, it was such an epic collapse on so many occasions and then he would fucking show you why he is one of the best in the world and he had two of his greatest shots of his effing life to go into the 18th hole tied for the lead. Actually, no, I apologize, he had a one-shot lead going into the 18th hole. One shot lead on a par four. You know what you got to do there? Four get a four, you get a four and a par and you're done winner over perfect drive. Second shot goes into the. The sand sand right next to the hole, probably about 25 feet to the, to the right, hits an unbelievable recovery shot on the. On the third shot to get it about five and a half feet and they fucking misses the putt. It goes left, every single putt that he's missed in his life. In these situations always go left and it went left again and you're like, oh my god, I can't believe this is happening.
Speaker 113 million people watched the final round of the masters 13 million people. I mean it's. It was insane. And now you go to a playoff hole and you're like, oh my God, he's. He's not only going to lose it again, he's never going to win this. He can't get it done here. He is a choke artist.
Speaker 1You get to the playoff hole and just the rose, who shot like nine under that day to even put himself in contention and birdie like a 22 foot putt for birdie on 18, just to get in that position alone ridiculous hits another perfect drive and roy mcroy goes second, hits a perfect drive. And then justin rose hits his second shot and it goes right by the pin. You're like, oh my god, this is this, this is over, it's. There is no if. Unless Roy hits it in the hole, it's over. And he hits a unbelievable second shot up the hill, rolls back down for enough spin, gets it to within about three feet of the putt. And if you watch that putt, of course with all the emotion, he drains it, he throws his club up in the air and he's crying. It's so beautiful. I watched that putt replay probably 10 to 15 times and if that putt is a foot longer, probably six inches longer, that son of a bitch is gonna miss it left again and it just it would have been so he would have lost it. He would have lost it at that point, but it was.
Speaker 1Look I. I love the masters, I love the Masters, I love the Majors. Nothing to me beats Masters weekend at Augusta. And even with Tiger Woods not there because he tore his Achilles again, it was. I mean, I watched every single shot Thursday, friday, saturday. I couldn't believe just how good of a tournament it was this year and I couldn't believe Roy mccory got it done and a lot of people are now thinking he's just like the floodgates are open now. He's gonna fucking rip shots, he's gonna. He's gonna win this, he's gonna win that, he's gonna win this. He's won three times already this year. So, like the man, the man, the man is on a torrid pace. So, um, yeah, I, I wanted to to get that out there, just because it was so. It was such a magical weekend for him to see him. It's been about 14 years of emotion and heartache and heartbreak for him to get it done at Augusta and it was great. He almost won it when he was 21 years old. He had a four-shot lead again on the back nine at us, the 21 year old, in the final round and he fucking collapsed. So like to just see all that emotion come to play. It's. It was great. I loved it. Um.
Speaker 1Another story came out this week. Right up the road, about 20 I don't know 25 minutes from me in Boulder, colorado, we have the University of Colorado, buffalo. Story came out this week that Colorado is retiring two players' jersey numbers from their football team. Anybody who just has an indication look, colorado, they're not a football school. You could probably argue they're not really a sports school. If they are, it's going to be football first. But they uh, they haven't had glory days since. Uh, since the 1990s they have won a national title. They have one national title which was in 1990 um cordell stewart. Um went to, went to colorado. He was starting quarterback. I think they have four players retired. They are retiring you may have heard of them because they just finished playing from Colorado about four months ago.
Speaker 1Shador Sanders, quarterback, son of Deion Sanders, and Travis Hunter Cruz. I don't know if you want to start with Shador Sanders. I don't know if you want to start with Travis Hunter. I don't know if you want to start with Shador Sanders. I don't know if you want to start with. I don't know if you want to start with Travis Hunter? I don't know if you want to start with George Sanders. I don't know if you want to start with the whole thing, but they are retiring their numbers tomorrow alright.
Colorado's Controversial Jersey Retirements
Speaker 2so you know, I've heard a lot of people's take on this. A lot of it is a general consensus, and then there are a couple of outliers that try to argue the fact, like Dion, Like Dion and like one chick that I've seen which like, yes, I think Sh door has set the school passing record. Maybe one or two, Um yeah, I mean when, 13 and 12 as a college quarterback I Colorado, he's at Colorado. Yup, he's 500.
Speaker 2Hmm 13 and 12 is 500 to me. He's never won a bowl game. I'm pretty sure he's never beaten a ranked opponent.
Speaker 1They were 2-9 in the two years against teams above 500. 1-7 against a ranked team hey, ranked. By the way, ranked is top 25. It ain't just top 10. It's top 25.
Speaker 2What the fuck are we doing here, bro? Like I am sorry, you can call me whatever the fuck you want to call me, colorado is not to be taken seriously at this point. It is not to be taken seriously whatsoever. It is Deion Sanderson Company. They literally are doing this to break out all the money they can from Dion before he leaves and realizes he don't want to do this without propping up his sons and Travis Hunter. And they're just trying to appease him at this point. Like is Shiloh getting his jersey retired too? Like what the fuck is next? I'm sorry For Sean Salah, like he was a Heisman winning running back in 1994 for Colorado.
Speaker 1I believe they're. I think they're only Heisman winning player.
Speaker 2Besides Travis.
Speaker 1Hunter. Oh, right, right, right, right, yes, sorry.
Speaker 2Right, right, right, right right. Oh, right, right, right right. Yes, sorry, right right, right, right right. Homie had to die and rest in peace. I do not mean to make light of that whatsoever, but he had to die in almost a full year after he passed away Again. Rest in peace. I don't mean any disrespect to him or his family or anybody that was a fan of him For him to get his jersey retired Now you can make an argument, kind of for Travis Hunter, of getting his jersey retired.
Speaker 2You know he was the first basic full-time dual-weight player. He did a lot on both sides. He was very dynamic in college football. He won a Heisman.
Speaker 2He should have been GNT, but that's a conversation for a different time. Shador Sanders is the most useless fucking plus one I've seen in my entire life. He is a fucking nepo baby. He is the epitome of fake it till you make it. I'm sorry, but like if I'm any nfl gm, I am not wasting a fucking first round pick on chador sanders and to go into another conversation later. From what travis hunter said, I'm not wasting a first-round pick on him either. You cannot play both ways in the NFL. I'm sorry, you can't fucking do it. You cannot succeed playing both ways in the NFL. The NFL is leagues above fucking Colorado football. Fuck out of here, bro, fuck out of here. Fuck out of here, bro, fuck out of here. Like I don't know, dion is selling illusions and making gold off of it. He is. If I am an alumni from Colorado, especially part of the Colorado football program, I'm upset some are.
Speaker 1I am insulted, some are, some are.
Speaker 2Some are Charlie Batch Fucking Cordell Stewart. Cordell Stewart, that's it. I'm sorry. Cordell Stewart finished top 10 twice, won two bowl games and went. What did you say? 28-5 as a starter 28-5 as a starter, but Doris Sandals deserves his jersey retired more because he's the coach's son. That's fucking pathetic.
Speaker 1Let me tell you Coach Prime here. Coach Prime says let the haters hate, let the haters hate me, my son.
Speaker 2If I'm people that transferred, let the haters hate me.
Speaker 1my son, If I'm people that transferred from a fucking top caliber football program to go to Colorado to play for Deion. I am now looking at the transfer portal. That's like being a starting quarterback at Tennessee, getting paid $2.5 million and then transferring to UCLA for less. But you look for $4 million and now you're not even getting a million. After all that to pay two and a half million dollars in the transfer into ucla for less. But, um, yeah, yeah, we'll get. We'll get into nico.
Speaker 1Iam ialava, I'm I am alevia here in a little bit. Here. This story was very fast. This story, this story is very fascinating to me. Um, you know, people say, people said that. Um, say that unless you live in Colorado, then you shouldn't really matter outside the state of Colorado. I live 25 minutes from the University of Colorado and I think it's a bullshit thing. Look, I'll start with Travis Hunter. He did win a Heisman. He has a much bigger case. To your point, he will be etched in the books as a two-way player, whatever First two-way player full-time to win the Heisman. Yada, yada, yty, etty.
Speaker 1I think a school like USC, I think the only jersey numbers they retire from football are Heisman winners. I think I could be wrong, but I think that's what they have. But I don't have that big of a problem with Travis Hunter. I also don't think he should have won the Heisman. He wasn't even listed as a top five defensive back when it was all said and done, but yet he won defensive back of the year. It's stupid. He had 15 touchdowns, over 1,000 yards of receiver, still wasn't top three in statistics compared to other receivers and yet he won best wide receiver. Whatever, I think one of the biggest problems is they just left the school four months ago. I mean you could have said you know, number 12 is a special number now because of Travis Hunter's historical season becoming the second Heisman winner to win at Colorado. That number will one day be retired and hung up in the rafters.
Speaker 1I think that would have been just the easy, perfect approach, and you definitely know what to do with four months after he left. I think it's crazy to talk. I think it's absurd. I mean, look the man ran screens and he ran go routes and 50-50 jump balls. How good is that? I don't know. You tell me you played in the Big 12, where there's no fucking defense whatsoever, you had no running game and no offensive line because, hello, your coach couldn't recruit either of those positions, which I said years ago when he got there. If he can't recruit in the trenches, it don't matter what he got, it don't matter. And that's exactly what happened.
Speaker 1And now we get to Shador Sanders and, by the way, I'm with you, like Travis Hunter's comments earlier about being drafted, and I ain't playing again if I can't play two ways, here's the one thing I'll say. If you expect him to go, the expectation is going to be this If he wants to play both sides, you're going to have to go up against someone like Pat Sertain II, who was defensive player of the year last year as a receiver, and be number one. Be the number one guy. You've got to be all pro. I don't want to hear any bullshit. And then you got to flip it and you got to be someone like a Jamar Chase or a Justin Jefferson, or again those all pro guys on both sides of the ball. That is the expectation, because that is the, that's the confidence and narrative that you have and you want to carry for yourself. And what's going to happen is he's going to flame out in one of the positions by about year three. He's going to flame out and be probably average, maybe wide receiver, two at best, in year five or six, and no one's going to know what to say and make all the excuses in the world. It's the coaching, it's the scheme, it's X, it's Y. It's the coaching, it's the scheme, it's X, it's Y, it's Z. He did this in college. Why are they not utilizing him enough? It's just going to be a bevy of excuses and it's just going to prove historically To your point, the NFL is leagues above everything else. It ain't fucking working dog. Pick one and be the absolute best at it Now Like pick one and be the absolute best at it. Now we get to Shador Sanders, to your point. Yes, he went 13-12 as a starter.
Speaker 1Didn't win a Big 12 conference this year, if memory serves me correctly. Big 12 football is a joke because there is no defense and, let's be honest, there is really no competition. And when you put the Big 12 up against the likes of the Big 10 or the SEC or even an Oregon, they get dismantled. They just get dismantled. It is a weak conference. They did not win their bowl games, they did not make it to the college football playoffs, they. Yet they kept, they kept climbing up the rankings towards the end of the season and still had a realistic chance to to win the conference. A bunch of crap is what that was. And they didn't.
Speaker 1Um, I think his completion percentage was like 70. It was like above 70%, I think this past season and and and now his draft. So who the fuck knows where he's going to get drafted next week Could be top five, could be out the first round. I don't understand why you're retiring his number when, again, they I believe they threw the ball 68 percent of the time. Um, in the two years that they were there and, uh, the working theory is he took a lot of sacks because he didn't want to mess with his completion percentage, which I could buy. That, because at that point, if you take a sack, you. You're either going to throw a screen and just make up yards or you're going to just tell Travis to run a go route and just throw getting so much recognition and awarded. And if you want to argue his production, okay, sure you can argue his production, but I think the same thing.
Speaker 2And again it's Colorado. Okay, but I think the same thing yeah.
Speaker 1And again it's, it's Colorado. Ok, like it's it's, it's a big 12. Calm the fuck down. Like it's, it's an. It's an absolute joke to retire on mediocrity. You're retiring someone's number on mediocrity and, to your point, a nepo baby, um, and deon sanders said that if his last name was sanders, it wouldn't be conversation dog. You're right. If his last name wasn't sanders, he wouldn't be in the conversation at all to have his number retire.
Speaker 2Exactly he wouldn't be getting his jersey retired, that's the fucking point.
Speaker 1Yeah, if it was Shador Jacobs, like? Or if he stayed, if he stayed at Jackson State, like what did we retire his number for? Like you didn't do it. You didn't do anything. And and for For people saying like they turned, they turned the program around.
Speaker 1Watch them this year and you could tell me exactly how much the program has turned around, because I got news they're probably going to win five games at most that most, and then it's going to be. Well, you know, he lost his quarterback. He lost travis hunter. He hasn't recruited his guys yet. He's in year three. By year three.
Speaker 1It's rule three in coaching. By year three you have your own guys that you transferred and persuaded to come in. You got at least a year, year and a half of your guys coming in into the system to play by year three. Like there should be progress. To play by year three like you should. There should be progress. And the only progress that you're gonna get, that you're supposed to get after, uh, what they go, not nine, nine to four this year, like the, the next step is supposed is supposed to be you win 11 games, you win the conference, you get into the playoffs as a low seed and, oh my god, deion Sanders is the second coming of Jesus and that's not going to happen.
Speaker 1Um, and with Shador Sanders in the NFL it's 52 percent of quarterbacks drafted in the first round fail. They just do because it's the NFL and it's going to be really curious to see who drafts him. I'm going to be really curious again to see the bevy of people that are going to get fired or traded or turned over in the organization before they say Shadur Sanders is not an NFL quarterback and I don't think he's an NFL quarterback. And look, he proved me wrong and whatever, I'll eat crow. They both could do well in the NFL and I could eat crow there. But like nothing stands out to me from the skill set and his decision-making as a quarterback that believes me he will do it. He can't take 15, 20-yard sacks in the NFL. He can't run around and scramble and look like a decapitated Russell Wilson in his late stages of his career and throw 50-50 balls. Are you kidding me these linebackers and safeties? They're going to eat his ass up. It's going to be wild.
Speaker 2It's sad man. It's sad. What I mean? I know this is off topic, but I kind of feel like it goes to football as a whole. They've dumbed down the game so much I remember.
Speaker 2You've been saying this for a while yeah, they've dumbed down the game so much and they've taken blame off of quarterbacks so much, and yet they're the of quarterbacks so much. And yet they're the highest paid, highest valued, the highest valued position on the field, and they've almost made them untouchable when it comes to decision making, when it comes to protecting your players. A quarterback was based on the throws he could make while keeping his players safe, and now they've completely changed the game of defense and penalized defenses so much that you can barely play defense anymore. Yeah, and I feel like it's just another thing, like it's mediocrity dumbing down the play calls, dumbing down the snap counts, dumbing down the play calls, dumbing down the snap counts, dumbing down the quarterback cadences for your huts, like it's just, it's bringing it down and down and down, because I'm, I just, I just can't coach and I, it's just, at the end of the day, they can't. You can't tell me that these coaches are on the same level as they were back in the day. Now, granted, they're trying to make it easier, to try to make it player friendly Cool.
Speaker 2But as we're seeing, more and more people are having harder times transitioning to the NFL. Unless they adapt, the NFL team adapts a college mentality and that only works for so long. We saw it with Chip Kelly, we saw it with Jim Harbaugh. It only lasts for so long until the NFL catches up, because it's a different league. It's a different level. Peyton Manning was Peyton Manning because Peyton Manning can leak. It's a different fucking level. Like Peyton Manning was Peyton Manning because Peyton Manning fucking was coached up right, he knew the game inside and out and he was a master of his craft. And now it's just not the same. I'm sorry. Like Shador shouldn't have his number retired, travis shouldn't have it yet. Travis cannot and should not play both ways and if he sticks to that saying he's not going to play unless it's both ways you do not waste a top 10 pick on that.
Speaker 1You just fucking can't yeah, and people were trying to you just fucking can't. You just fucking can't, man. Yeah, and people were trying to spin it and be like, ah, he just loves football so much. So does every fucking person going into the draft. I hear it. It's the same thing every year. They live and breathe football and, oh man, we just love. They're the first guy in, they're the last guy out. Like, okay, you can't have all 300 fucking players be the first person in, first person out. Like, come on, like the, the, the analysis, the, the analysis. The dummy down in the quarterback position has also turned into the analysis of these players being dumb dumbed down as well. It is literally the same repetitiveness Of like, oh man, just love their work ethic and their determination to get in early and study the playbook and X, y and Z and like.
Speaker 2You mean ruin your fucking job, Like right it. Just it's obnoxious and it's only going to continue to hurt the game. And it's crazy to me when the quarterback market especially is taking up a majority of these teams' salary cap Like and time after time again, it's not working out.
Speaker 1And getting the least amount of blame. After the fact, it's always the coaching schemes, it's always the coaching schemes, it's always the coaches. It's always not enough weapons, it's always this and that. How about the guy you're paying $60 million for it? Ain't it Like? It's like you. You don't Okay. So what? You don't want to admit that you made? You made a bad mistake and look like a buffoon. It's part of the job. You're supposed to make these type of mistakes. Yeah, does it set you? Does it set the franchise back a decade? Probably are you going to be there to see the turnaround? Probably not, but like to to say but to just to just throw the kitchen sink at everything else but your quarterback, in fear of losing them. They truly weren't committed to your team anyway, because it's all about the money. And then they get the money and don't perform up to the money, and it's all the defense mechanisms possible. It's so wild. I just I can't believe it. Yeah, it's so wild. I just I can't believe it. Yeah, but this weekend, the draft is next week and next weekend, which is pretty, which is just wild. This weekend, however, I know it just came out quick. This weekend, though, it is WrestleMania 41. Wrestlemania 41.
NFL Quarterback Evolution Debate
Speaker 1In the great state of Nevada, in the great city of Las Vegas, at Allegiant Stadium, we have WrestleMania 41 preview. I've got all the match cards in front of me for night one. Night one's tomorrow, so we're going to start night one. Make it easier here, I'm going to go top up. We should do a prediction. Yeah, that's exactly what we're going to do. We're going to do predictions here. Kicking us off it is Jade Cargill. The return of Jade Cargill. She was out for a couple months, made her appearance back to the Elimination Chamber, beat the piss out of naomi um, it looks like naomi's the one that attacked her um later, in the later year of 2024. Uh, so you have jade cargill versus naomi. Does the war path of jade cargill lead to a wrestlemania dub or is it? I got my ass kicked all these months and now I'm gonna beat you at at WrestleMania and really make you eat it.
Speaker 2I said Jade Cargill wins. I mean, there was so much hype surrounding her when she came in. People were talking trash on her, saying she was a female Goldberg.
Speaker 1She was a one trick pony Me. Yep, I was one of those people.
Speaker 2Yeah, and you know what? She talked a little bit more on the mic. She started getting a little bit better. I'm not saying she's great, she's getting better. She's starting to learn more, especially teaming up with Bianca for that short time. I'm pretty sure that helped her out a lot For the amount of hype that they signed her to. I don't see her losing, I just don't. They signed her for a reason to push her, and I don't think the push is over yet I'm with you there.
Speaker 1I don't think the push is even close yet. I think, once this storyline of Naomi is done, I think you're really now going to focus on Jade versus Bianca Belair, which I think is really what people wanted to see, especially since she came in and partnered with Bianca from the beginning and they dominated for a little bit, won tag teams a couple times, but I think seeing those two go head to head my god, that that would be. That would be fantastic. Um bianca, yeah too, man, it'll definitely be fun to watch, absolutely. Uh next, uh, you got got this man's 50. Uh, you got ray Mysterio just making another Wrestlemania appearance. He's got El Grande Americano.
Speaker 2That's just so racist. What the fuck If you were to talk about a great wrestler just doing terrible fucking booking? Look no further than El Grande Americano, Mr Chad Gable, and he's just getting the worst fucking stick I've ever seen in my life. But it'll be fun to watch. I'm sorry, Ray's a jobber at this point. Ray is what John Cena was three years ago he was there to put people over he was there to establish people, and that is what Ray's job is tomorrow night.
Speaker 1Grande Americano wins, Grande Americano wins. I agree with you. The last seven years for John Cena it's really been putting people over, like the Austin Theories and the Grayson Wallens and X, Y and Z and look, Mysterio's 50.
Speaker 2I know it's either going to be good for him or for the company at this point, exactly, yeah, he's a loyalty piece to the company.
Speaker 1He's going to get the job done. He's going to, you know, I'm sure he'll have his feud with Penta coming up as well. Really, get the nod of approval there. All right. Now you got four straight title matches. You got the US Championship. You got LA. You got LA Knight. Yeah, going up against Jacob Fatu.
Speaker 2I like it. I like it. Jacob Fatu, his storyline, the little rift he has with Solo. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of LA Knight. La Knight's in his 40s, you know what I mean. He's getting older, he ain't getting younger. Jacob Autu had so much hype with him coming into the league, into WWE, and he is excellent on the mic. He's even better in the ring. He can only get better. I think this is where Jacob Fatu gets his all right. Let's see what you got, kid moment, and he takes home the dub. He becomes the new US champion, which also ties into him also battling more with the new bloodline and all that and that breaking apart even more because of Solo's jealousy.
WrestleMania 41 Night One Preview
Speaker 1Yeah, I think with Jacob Fowl too, they could have, if they wanted to, really pushed him into that meteoric rookie year like a Kurt Angle back in the day or a Brock Lesnar back in the day, just because he's a fucking freak of nature. He's an athletic specimen for his size. He's like Umaga 2.0, but just more athletic. It's ridiculous.
Speaker 1The US title class, if you want to call it that, is always a great starting point for those, for those people or the intercontinental like area, like those two areas are always traditionally a good starting point to like start making your push and taking on different challengers, being more creative with their character in the storyline standpoint. And LA Knight is you know, he is in his 40s, he's still a big name, he's a formidable opponent. It's the first WrestleMania for Jacob Batu and I think it really is going to start getting him to be more by himself and really more disassociating and breaking up with Solo Sakoa and the new bloodline and kind of wanting to be what Umaga and Rikishi couldn't be or wouldn't be. And I think he's of those that are there from the family line outside of Roman. I mean it's got to be Jacob Fatu. He has to be the one you have to push at the end of the day, right, he has the most talent out of all of them.
Speaker 2Yeah, it's just his time. It's his time to take, it's just it's his time. It's his time to take a step up and it's his time to give it a rip. Like you said, that B title the US Intercontinental it's there to see if you can hold the title and you can do something with it, to take the big step to become the face of the company. And he definitely has that potential. He definitely does Especially.
Speaker 2it looks like Roman's going to be on his way up pretty soon. Rock's only here for a little long. Brody's going to need a new challenger eventually.
Speaker 1Depending on how night they're in. We'll get to night two, don't you?
Speaker 2worry.
Speaker 1We'll get to that Exactly. Yeah, it's interesting because I think Fatu wins. I think Cena's first title was a US title. Randy Orton's first title was an Intercontinental title. Right, you know, way, way back in the day, I mean you know late 90s, early 2000s, like Triple H and Kurt Angle and the Rock, like it was a European title or the Intercontinental title, and Kurt Angle and the Rock it was the European title or the Intercontinental title. They all won those two before making a big push to the big boys.
Speaker 1Essentially, angle and Lesnar, I think, are two anomalies from a rookie year standpoint. I think with Angle, he proved to literally the world that he had the natural talent and ability. He just needed mic skills and to act like a fool once in a while, which he did, and obviously Hall of Famer won the title. His rookie year. Lesnar same thing I mean freakazoid specimen dominated in college could prove from a wrestling standpoint he could get it done, he could, he would truly was the next big thing. So it's, it's a good platform. Jump for fatu um, world tag team championships. I don't know shit about the war raiders, um, I do know the new day, the new day, the new day that they're cooked. They need to be done. That's been too long of a faction. It's not even a faction. It's Kofi Kingston and, I think, Xavier Woods. I think is the other guy.
Speaker 2Yeah, big E used to be a part of it, until they kicked him out yep, they shit on Big E.
Speaker 1Kofi Kingston's been around for forever. Today now he's in that territory with the Miz and R-Truth and Rey Mysterio. He's just a loyalty piece to have. I don't think every single title doesn't change hands at WrestleMania. I think this will be the beginning of the end of the new day, splitting up, going their own separate way. So I will say the war rangers retain the title yeah, it sounds about right.
Speaker 2To be honest, I hate to say it I do like xavier woods with this heel turn. I do think it's good. I do think it's neat for his character because he does have a lot of talent and he was kind of just put up with the new day almost as a gimmick and probably wasted a lot of years doing that. I just don't care to see them win. I just don't. I don't. Who's the tag champions? To be honest with you.
Speaker 1War Raiders.
Speaker 2Is that like the fucking Viking?
Speaker 1dudes yeah, it's the Viking dudes, and you know what?
Speaker 2Like Viking dudes that are all like muscle bikers Now and shit like that.
Speaker 1Yeah, pretty much.
Speaker 2I don't care. I do think that they retain their titles because they need some kind of push, because obviously it ain't fucking working. Yet New Day can't do it.
Speaker 1Look, they got Raiders in their name name and they're fighting in Allegiant stadium. Therefore, raiders, uh, are going to get a dub for the first time in April since, probably like 2004. Um, next you've got the WWE women's championship. So you have Tiffany Stratton or Tiffy Time versus the return of Charlotte Flair. Tiffy Time man, charlotte Flair.
Speaker 1I'll start with Charlotte Flair. Good to see her back. Kind of over her at this point. She has had a Hall of fame career. She's a 14 time women's championship. She wants to. She wants to break whatever, whatever the the title record holder is, whether it's c917 or um, or or break her dad's record or 16, whatever the case may be.
Speaker 1Hall of Fame career. You know she devastated an ACL injury like 15 months ago. It's cool to see her come back. I don't think she wins. I don't think she gets title number 15.
Speaker 1I think, at the end of the day, I think I think it's, I think it's. I think it's tiffy's time, um, when it comes to her and charlotte flair, it's. It's cool that charlotte flair came back. I don't think she should have won the rumble. In my opinion, I think alexa bliss should have actually been the one to win the rumble, but that's neither here or there. Um, charlotte Charlotte Flair. Charlotte Flair, one of the greatest of all time Hall of Fame career. If she gets title number 15 at WrestleMania, okay, I guess from a name branding standpoint it would look good. But I think to come back and win a title in three months it's kind of insane. But it is the WWE, so who knows what Triple H has in store? I'm going to go with Tiffy Time, because I think Tiffy Time is in her head and I think it's Tiffy's time. For now, she won't lose this title this year, but I don't think it's tomorrow night.
Speaker 2So this is where we're going to differentiate. I want Tiffy Time to win. I'm a fan of Tiffy Time. I don't think she's the best on the mic, yet you know, I think there's room to grow. I think you know, especially, like what happened last Friday between her and Charlotte, how they kind of went off script, got a little personal, you know 0-3.
Speaker 2How they're like 0-3, you know, always going to be a backseat to your daddy type shit. I think that was good. I think that's the best thing that they needed for this feud. If Charlotte Flair does not win, then they wasted this Royal Rumble and this Mania match, that's fair.
Speaker 2They just did. You're going to tell me Charlotte Flair came back to win Rumble, takes Alexa Bliss' spot or somebody else's spot that deserved it far more, just for her to lose. Now one thing is true I don't care who's running the WWE. They will push the stars that they know at the end of the day, no matter how people in the locker room feel about it, no matter how the fans feel about it. It no matter how the fans feel about it.
Speaker 2There's almost a loyalty in that aspect, because they know which champions sell. It happened with Triple H, it happened with John Cena. Now, don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the hell out of both of them, but it happened with Hogan. I enjoyed the hell out of both of them, but it happened with Hogan. Like they're going to stick with their people, and I think I feel like Charlotte Flair is almost to that point where she could leave, come back and be gifted a championship. You might want to say it's because of Ric Flair. I don't know, it might be just Triple H looking down for Ric Flair. I mean, triple H has done a lot of things, but I just don't see how Charlotte Flair loses. I think now, granted, do I think Tiffy could get it back, because you know, the champion always gets a rematch clause.
Speaker 1At some point.
Speaker 2Could happen at Backlash, could happen after that. But I just feel like you wasted the whole women's rumble in that point, because what was the point? Maybe to establish Tiffy as a legit champion, but like you could have done that without charlotte, I mean, maybe not, I don't know, I just, I just I don't see where charlotte loses here.
Speaker 1okay, because it's charlotte flair so so type title number 15 for charl Charlotte Flair tomorrow night is where Cruz is leading. Well, speaking of Rumble winners, the next match is for the World Heavyweight Championship and you just talked about, you know, champions that sell. You got Gunther. Ring general won the title, I think last year at WrestleMania. He's had it for a year yeah, that sounds about right Versus main event Jey Uso. Well, I'm curious now like you want to. Rumble winner Yeet sells.
Speaker 2My heart, my heart, my heart. I'm going to say this without sounding like a complete dick To me. Jey Uso is a fucking terrible wrestler. I'm sorry he has one of the. He does like eight super kicks a match, has a terrible fucking spear and he just has some of the worst. Look, it should have been three years ago. It should have been three years ago. It should have been back during the COVID times times, right after they started having live events again. But he hasn't. And this is what a lot of people say about Cody is his entrance to me and it just it makes no sense, especially for him to be John Cena, except for the story of John Cena still getting there in one chamber in a fucking outright kind of way. We'll get to Cena.
Speaker 1We'll get to Cena.
Speaker 2June 3rd is priming up to be damn near the best heel of the company. I don't think his reign stops. I don't think his reign stops at Mania, the way that it's led up. Now don't get me wrong. What they have done leading up to Mania, especially with bringing in Jimmy and what happened to Jimmy and everything like that. I think they needed that, because you know how many times has Jay lost to Gunther?
Speaker 1Every single time, Every single time, I think it's like. I think it's like 0-4, 0-7. Like he's something.
Speaker 2And it's I'm sorry, like it just 0-4, 0-7. He's something I'm sorry, I guess. I feel like Jace is kind of like an Epo baby man. Don't get me wrong. He's had good matches in the tag division.
Speaker 1But when he won.
Speaker 2besides, when he went and broke off in the tag division. Yeah, but like name me one besides when he went and broke off against the Bloodline name me. One other significant moment of Jey Uso, besides beating John Cena in the Rumble Exactly, I can't.
Speaker 2All he has is and like I feel like even the yeet is hurting this character, like last week when he was talking about Jimmy getting destroyed and getting beaten, the crowd would yeet after everything he said. And it's like no, he's trying to be serious. Right now he's trying to have like a heartfelt moment and it's like no, he's trying to be serious. Right now he's trying to have like a heartfelt moment and everybody's like no, that's, that's not what he's trying to go for. Like you can see it on his face. He's like ah, like it's just, I don't know, man, I think, like I said, it was kind of like the same case with Daniel Bryan. They pushed him way too late. Yes, yes, yeah, they pushed him way too late, passed when they should have and they missed that opportunity. Gunther's got to win. Gunther's got to win. He's got to continue that heel dominant run. Hell, he had the Intercontinental.
Speaker 1Championship. For what? A year, two years?
Speaker 2666 days, so yeah about two years. About two years and I just don't see his World Heavyweight Championship run coming to an end before his IC run, because he's just dominated the competition. He has become one of the best heels in the company and there's no way Jey Uso wins.
Speaker 1To me, it's just me Uso day one. It's just me Uso yeet, that's crazy.
Speaker 1No, I think Guther wins because I think the winner Give me Alabama, give me Alabama. I think Guther wins because I think the winner of the main event of night one, the triple threat match, is where the next story will be for Guther from an opponent standpoint story will be for Gunther from an opponent standpoint. I think I look, there's just sometimes in life you can you just go up against something or someone and you just you just can't get it done and it happens. It just happens in sports. In the NBA, if you went up against Jordan and the bulls in the nineties, you weren't winning. You went up against the Celtics in the sixties and seventies, you weren't winning. You went up against Jordan and the Bulls in the 90s, you weren't winning. You went up against the Celtics in the 60s and 70s, you weren't winning. You went up against Kobe and Shaq, you weren't winning. You know, in baseball, you went against the Yankees in the 20s and 30s and 40s you weren't winning. Just in football, you know, you go against the Packers in the 60s, you weren't winning. You went against the Cowboys in the 60s, you weren't winning. You went against the Cowboys in the 90s, you probably weren't winning. You went against Tom Brady, there are just times where it's not meant to be for you, it's not your time, in whatever capacity.
Speaker 1I would be surprised if this is the time for Jey Uso. If he wins, it will be because Jimmy Uso comes out as some sort of distraction referee gets knocked out, bullshit thing Because that's all the bloodline. That's the only way they can win and I think if you do that, it's good If you do that. If, if Jimmy comes out and then Ludwig Kaiser comes out and you know all hell breaks loose, refs knocked out, and then all of a sudden you know they do like a one D um into a frog splash. Jey Uso wins, jimmy must then super kick the shit out of J Uso and you go that direction. You unfortunately again it's like Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, but like you, you go that. You go that direction again, or maybe, or you could, or you could do, you could do a Cody Rhodes or Jey Uso.
Speaker 1I don't know, I don't care what you do with that, but if you put Jey over, you cut it. Cut it with him and Gunther. He got his dub, he got our WrestleMania, he got his title Like boom Done Over, gunther wins. I think you cut it regardless, because there's just at some point. You know it just is what it is it's boring, it's not, there's nothing creative about it. I think Guther wins. I do think he loses the title this year and I think it will be to the Triple Threat winner. I think Jey Uso is just going to be like yeah, you know, just just not my, not my time. And I appreciate the, the support, the yeets, and you know we'll, we'll be, we'll be back on the stage. Uso's deuces. And now we now. We get to. Now we get to the main event, night one Triple threat Seth Rollins versus Roman Reigns versus CM Punk, with Paul Heyman in CM Punk's corner. Look, 10 years ago probably should have had this match. Whatever, we're here now, we got it.
Speaker 2Yeah, I guess. So At this point you know, better late than never. It's WWE's method Always Better late than never, 100%.
Speaker 1Better late than never. I think I think Punk wins his first Wrestlemania main event. I think he wins and I think he goes on and wins the title later this year from Gunther or somebody. I think you want to talk about storytelling. I think this is a full circle 10 year, 11 year moment now, where he goes from dropping pipe bombs about the company and Vince and X, y and Z.
Speaker 1It comes back. He got hurt, he dealt with McIntyre, he's dealt with Rollins. Him and Roman teamed up at War Games. Now they're separated. He gets his guy back that he got when he got into the WWE and he was in the best in the world era.
Speaker 1And I think this is where you see, you see Roman part Seth Rollins. I don't really know what you do with him at this point. Point. He's kind of he's kind of like a comical drew mcintyre, in the sense that he just fucking hates everything and and everybody and like he, like he's visionary and x, y and z, but he sold his soul to triple h all those years ago when he hit roman reigns and the dean ambrose in the back of the chair, shot and did all that shit.
Speaker 1So, um, I think this is the long-term flourishing coming full circle. Because Brock Lesnar as we all assumed that he will never be back, and even though he was Paul Heyman's original guy, it was him and Punk for quite that time, him and Punk for quite that time. And I think that's. I think that is where you start to see you talk about the bloodline as a whole. I think this is where you finally start to see that separation of you know, it's been a good five years or six years of the bloodline. But like factions die, okay, they just they split up, they go yep, they go their separate ways. They have a reunion of some sort or they come together for a match or two, but ultimately they go split. Give me Punk.
Speaker 2You know part of me wants to say Rollins wins in Steel's Haven. That'd be great. That'd be great, that'd be great. But I have to agree with you on this one. There's a reason why Punk came back and Punk didn't come back not to win another championship. I think at this point this is a good time and it could be almost leading towards another passing of the torch. Punk could win against Gunther later on down the year and I really see, at least in a longer time, because you know how Cody well, depending on how night three goes, eventually, whoever the winner of that match is, I could definitely see them reunifying the championships again and having a double champion. I see that's a good way for Punk to go out as well, especially after winning the World Heavyweight Championship again.
Speaker 2You know Punk's not going to lose. You're right. It's his first WrestleMania main event. He's not going to lose. That's a big point in this storyline is the fact that he's finally getting it. He just can't lose it. There's no way he's going to come back. He's going to leave AEW. However trash AEW is to come back just to lose at WrestleMania.
Speaker 1It just makes no sense, absolutely, it just makes no sense whatsoever. All right, now we get into night two, night two better matches, by all accounts, for the most part AJ Styles and Logan Paul.
Speaker 2It's just another veteran carrying Logan Paulul. I mean, don't get me wrong, I've said this for a while now logan paul has a lot of talent. Logan paul can be a great heel in this company, and it seems like now he's starting to realize that and that he can look at WWE as a career. Yeah, now the thing is, aj Styles is now moving into that role that we were talking about with John Cena and Rey Mysterio.
Speaker 1Mm-hmm.
Speaker 2Is to prop up bigger talent.
Speaker 1Yep.
Speaker 2Would I like to see AJ Styles get another championship before he retires. The wrestling enemy wants to say yes, but, to be honest, no. I really wouldn't care to see that again. Who would he be feuding with? What would he be doing? Even if it's like a United States or an Intercontinental Championship, I just don't care, like I just really don't. I mean he care, I really don't. I mean he was great in TNA. He was great when he first got to WWE. That was a long time ago.
Speaker 1That was a long time ago.
Speaker 2Now, it's just at this point. Logan Paul for better or worse, however you feel about it is going to be a part of WWE's future, and what I mean by that is that he is going to be a key component of the future. Is he the future?
Speaker 1TBD.
Speaker 2TBD, tbd. Will he be a part of that future, a major role in that future? I think so. He's still young. He's still got a lot of time ahead of him. He's getting better each match. He just unveiled a new finisher. He's showing and proving that he's able to do what he can. You can sit there and you could be like kenny omega and just be like, oh, he's getting carried by veterans, which you know was true. You know like everything's super, super, super, fucking rehearsed with him. Yep, but you know he still puts on a hell of a fucking show man and I just AJ Styles takes the loss. To be honest, it just seems like a let's get Logan Paul in here type of match.
Speaker 1Yeah, logan Paul wins Agreed. I've never been an AJ Styles fan personally, so I care less if he gets on the title run of some sort or not. Logan Paul's new finisher the Pulverizer it's actually a pretty damn good finisher, so I give him credit for that. Yeah, I think Paul wins. It's not his first WrestleMania. He's taken it out of WrestleMania already.
Speaker 1I think this is where, to your point, he realizes the full-time career move he can have here. He is athletic, he is talented. He has gotten better since he first started. Since he lost his US title, it seems he's taken a more serious approach to it, really being more active within the WWE, being there more, and I think this is just a good propping stage from a savvy veteran to pass it to the kid and to really kind of take him to a next step. I don't want to say a level up, but I think it definitely takes him to a next step. I don't want to say a level up, but I think it definitely takes him to a next step type of thing, and it will be entertaining because it will probably be the first match that kicks off All right, the Sin City Street Fight.
Speaker 1Wow, I didn't know that's what it was called Sin City because they're in Vegas. You got Damien Priest or the, the uh, the bisexual undertaker, I think, is how is how you call it um, versus, versus, versus, drew mcintyre I mean another, I hate to say it, but like another match I just don't fucking care for.
Speaker 2I mean it just seemed like they were B-plus wrestlers that they're trying to throw in. I don't know if you ever played either SmackDown versus Raw or WWE and you did General Manager Mode. You were trying to figure out how to get your wrestling card filled up and each wrestler had a popularity rating. You're like, well, these popularity ratings are big enough, I got to get them in the show somehow. That's what this match feels like, because, well, these popularity ratings are big enough, I got to get them in the show somehow. That's what this match feels like. Because, yes, you know, like there is a little bit of storytelling there. It seems like McIntyre kind of screwed McIntyre a couple times, or fucking pre-screwed McIntyre a couple times, whether it be Rumble or whether it be before that or after that, I'm pretty sure like, maybe, chamber chamber that, but like it, just it.
Speaker 2It feels like they had no other idea what to do with these two, especially after priest lost the championship. They're just trying to scramble to find something for him to do yep he's not getting any younger.
Speaker 2Same with mcintyre, mcintyre. I would love to see mcintyre win another championship, but there's no way. They're doing it, especially now with cody cena. Uh, punk, fucking gunther. It's just harder to throw them for mcintyre. I get that, I get that like just, but it's just like I just I don't know, man, I don't care. To be honest, either way, fucking McIntyre's gonna cry at the end of it and bitch Yep. I would like to see him win, though, because I don't think Priest has a lot. I feel like McIntyre has more going for him and more to gain with the win than Priest does.
Speaker 1Agreed. They're not sure what to do, Damian Priest, since he lost. Yeah, I mean this storyline from fucking January, Like whatever Call that what it is. Mcintyre also is one that hates the world and hates everybody and bitches and moans and complains and says everybody screws me and it doesn't take accountability for himself. I mean it's pretty wild. I could care less about this match as well. I think McIntyre wins it, just I. I mean he got. He got a south from heaven choke slam Onto like a fucking car window shield, Like two weeks ago or some shit like that. And I think McIntyre is going to like I don't know, Claymore him off the side of the stage or some shit like that, To win and Be curious to see what they do with McIntyre. You know, I do wish. I do wish he would have got a bigger push a couple years ago, especially when he won the title from Lesnar. Yeah, I don't know why they kind of squashed that reign Back then. I liked McIntyre.
Speaker 2For sure, for sure. And also McIntyre recently, like the past year and a half or so, he was up on his contract. Yeah, he did resign and one of his things is he wanted a championship. You know, I do think eventually he does get that championship, because why else would you resign, unless the money is just too good to pass up? But as we've seen with other wrestlers, AEW is willing to fork out money.
Speaker 1Facts.
Speaker 2So like it. Just it has to make sense somehow. I just there's no way. Drew loses.
Speaker 1I'm with you there. This might be well, depends on who you ask. Fatal four-way for the Intercontinental title. You don't get a lot of fatal four-way matches anymore. I love fatal four-way matches. I'll tell you what you got Braun Breaker champ versus Dominic Mysterio versus Penta newcomer versus Finn Balor. Does Braun Breaker just fucking break everybody and win the title title? Does penta come in fresh and get a title at wrestlemania? Does don make mysterio? I mean there there's, there's a lot of directions you can go here with this match, except for finn ballard, because he's been useless. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, except for finn ballard. He's been used. He's been useless for like the last 10 years.
Speaker 2He has. He's just there as the big old, what, if you know? And it sucks. It sucks. Seeing him as that, he had a lot of potential before he got hurt and had to relinquish his title. It was not fair, but, as you said in the past of this podcast, that's just sometimes how the cookie crumbles. It's just not your time and your time never comes back. That's just how it happens and it sucks. But I think Dominic wins. What, what? There's something that's telling me Dominic has turned into a great heel. He's turned into a great heel. He's turned into a great heel. His wrestling has progressively gotten better.
Speaker 2Penta has been nothing but mid since joining WWE. I think their original plan was for Penta to take over. Every single match that I've seen him participate in has been less than acceptable. I just I. Another thing you're signing. You're signing a dude way too late, like kind of like what they did with AJ Styles. There's a lot of hype, especially in Lucha Underground, with Penta. I just you know, I feel like what they need to do with Penta is he loses. And then I'm pretty sure Penta's brother joined WWE, recently, made his debut and there needs to be a feud there. There needs to be a feud there. Somehow Maybe even a tag team run that leads to a feud. Give him a tag title shot and bring him up that way, Braun Breaker.
Speaker 2I feel like they're really high up on Braun Breaker. They are. He has a lot of hype around him, especially with the fans. They could try to break him off and give him a main event push.
Speaker 1I saw what you did there.
Speaker 2Depending on you know. So. You know Bron Breaker, he definitely has face of the company potential and you know, I think he's proven that he's a good intercontinental champion. Dominic Mysterio, if he's going to be more than a gimmick, this is not where he wins. Yeah, I think it's good it's going to be more and what they could do with that is the breakup of the judgment day. You know it just like, because that's been heading towards that direction for the longest time.
Speaker 1Yup.
Speaker 2And you know, I just I just I feel like at this point, dirty Dom deserves it. Man, like I kind of fuck with Dom at this point, like he's, he's funny, he's got good comedic timing, he's pretty decent on the mic. He's not great yet, but I feel like he's definitely paid his dues. And if not great yet, but I feel like he's definitely paid his dues. And if, if there were any time to try to establish him as a legitimate wrestler in the company it would be now.
Speaker 1That's that's. That's fair. That's that's fair. He's definitely taken his his lumps as a, as a, as a newcomer of the business. Finn Balor reminds me. You talk about the biggest. What if he's like the Derrick Rose of the WWE? You know, when Derrick Rose won his MVP, shredded his knee and then that was it, and then he just never got the opportunity to get back to that greatness. And that's exactly what happened with Balor. I think the Judgment Day absolutely implodes.
Speaker 1I think Carlito will make an appearance in this match. He'll probably either get speared or accidentally get hit by Dom or Finn, and all three of them are going to go after one another. And the judgment day is just cooked at that point. Penta way too early for Penta. He'll get a title, probably sometime next year. It's going to be a slow buildup. He definitely he reminds me of like the demon Finn Balor, but also just like can't get it done. It just can't get over the hump yet. But he's a newcomer, he's fresh, his momentum will build Braun Breaker.
Speaker 1He's definitely a WWE favorite, probably with Triple H and company, definitely with the fans. He's just a fucking freakazoid in the ring. He's not a big talker, he's not a mic promoter. He's fuck you up, get out the way type of thing, get it moving. You know it's WrestleMania, so you're going to have to make a really good decision here who you push. I don't hate Dominic winning the Intercontinental. I don't hate Dominic winning the Intercontinental and you know, just kind of setting his own path and kind of just being on his own outside of you know, liv Morgan, I don't hate it, I can definitely see it. I think you know what I think Dominic wins, because I think they just don't know what. I just don't think they know what to do with Braun Breaker.
Speaker 2The only thing would be a main event push.
Speaker 1Yeah, but he's railroaded. Everybody in Intercontinental, I know, but to your point, you got Cena this year, you got Rhodes, you got Punk, you got Gunther, you still have Rollins. I mean, is it the right time for him to make a main event push? I don't know. But like he's tough For him to make a main event push, I don't know. But like he's tough, he's kind of like that. He's not as technical and he definitely doesn't have as great shape as he is.
Speaker 1I don't think he could go for like a 45 minute match, like like a Chris Ben wall or like a Sean Michaels type of thing, like I think I don't think he's there yet and at some point with with Chris Ben wall, like they had to make, like they had to make a choice, like do you push them into into the main event? Can he hold his own and he Um, or is he someone that can put on great matches when you need just a spark on, like a Friday night or like a Monday night type of thing? And I think I think Braun, I think you ask him to go out there and put on like a good 20, 25 minute and that's a long time in the ring. I understand that. But like a good 20, 25 minute, like knock him down, fucking, get your ass thrown around, type of thing, one-on-one. I don't know. I just don't know if he can do it yet. I just don't think it's. I don't think he's capable yet, I don't think it's in his nature to do that yet I think it's come out swinging.
Speaker 1I'm going to jump 15 feet and fucking launch at you and spear you. I'm going to take a couple bumps, maybe get thrown onto the table and then I'm going to fucking hit you again and give you a second wave of rush and then, like I'm good, I, yeah, I just I, I just I, I think there's, I think there's just a better pathway. And brown breaker is already by himself and I think that's the biggest, I think it's the biggest difference. And this is where I think, where you push dominic to like, okay, you could be, but you could be by yourself, like you don't need, like you don't need a faction. You saw, you saw it with evolution. Um, I mean, yes, yeah, I mean you saw it with. I mean you've seen it with the new day, you've seen it with with the shield. Like at some point you have to, you have to be willing to just kind of figure it out on your own from a Mike standpoint and just from a ring career standpoint, what you want to do.
Speaker 1Yeah let's go, dominic, fuck it.
Speaker 2At a certain point, everybody breaks off from the faction, and it's usually with the belt around their waist.
Speaker 1Usually with the belt around their waist.
Speaker 2100%, and it's not going to be fit. It's not going to be fit. Yeah, it's not going to be fit.
Speaker 1It's not going to be fit. It's not going to be fit. Second of four straight championship matches. You've got the women's tag team. You've got Liv Morgan Speaking of Liv Morgan, You've got Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez versus Bailey and Lyra Valkyria. A lot of cake in this match.
Speaker 2Yeah, you're right. Probably be cool to watch. Don't really care who wins. Who's the champions now?
Speaker 1Liv and Raquel Rodriguez are the women's tag team titles.
Speaker 2I mean Bayley is a vet, yep Liv is still. They're trying to keep her relevant. So I think they retain.
Speaker 1I think they retain as well and I think you have an edge and Lita-type situation with Dominic winning the Intercontinental and then his woman, liv Morgan, retaining her belt. It's pretty simple there. Last two matches. I know you're invested in both of these Women's World simple there, all right. Last two matches. I know you're invested in both of these Women's World Championship triple threat Io Sky versus Bianca Belair versus Rhea Bloney Ripley. I know who you want to win. It's not a secret. You want mommy on top, of course. How can you not talk about mommy? How can you not? I know she's great.
Speaker 2She's one of the best wrestlers in the women's division, Probably one of the best wrestlers on the roster, especially with the push that she has not only by the company but also the fans, and she doesn't win and she doesn't win. Rhea doesn't win and I think she needs to not win for her character, because she has kind of grown to a point where she just runs over everybody and it got a little stale. It got stale, it got a little old and she started. She's been facing hardships now and people that she thought she could trust have been backstabbing her in her eyes and she's realized that she has nobody, especially since been splitting up with Damien Priest. She's kind of trying to figure out how to do it all on her own, which she hasn't had to do.
Speaker 2I think that if she wins at Mania, then that takes everything away from her character progression. I just, you know, I think that she will win it back eventually. Yeah, it's not going to be at Mania. I think that's for the best. That being said, I am a big E Skye fan as well. I think Io Skye is also one of the best wrestlers on the roster. You know she has been almost like a third party, a third wheel, this entire situation. It's been disrespectful because he's the champion. But again, how do you think Rhea's going to drop the bill on a Monday Night Raw to Io Sky?
Speaker 1Very weird, very out of the blue, like a month ago.
WrestleMania 41 Night Two Predictions
Speaker 2Which is great, because it used to only be for the longest time that championships were only dropped at pay-per-view, true, which made it predictable Back in the day. People would win championships on a Friday night or on a Thursday night or on a Monday night, like it was more unpredictable that way. Definitely better to go that route. That being said, I don't see the only. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big Naomi fan. Naomi, I think, is a great wrestler. I think she has a great gimmick. I still think they're pushing Naomi with Bianca and I don't think Bianca has the belt at that point. I think Io Sky retains her title and continues her run. She is one of the best wrestlers that the women's division has had in a long time. She always puts on a show and I think she just continues her run to eventually lose the title to Rhea later on in the year.
Speaker 1I agree with you that Rhea can't win it at Mania. Rhea can't win it at Mania. There would really be no benefit at all from a story standpoint and from her standpoint it was shocking that Sky won it in just a random mid March Monday Night Raw, heading into WrestleMania, any of the Wrestlemania. I would love to see Bianca Belair win it to then set up a feud with a Jade Cargill, for example, and have like a holy trinity of matches for the title, which I think Jade would take it at the third time. But I think Io Sky wins. I think it wouldn't make any sense to win it and lose it so quickly. And I think it also goes to the, the portrayal that she, she has been the third wheel, um in this situation. She has been the forgotten champion and she has been just the forgotten person of the of this feud. And I think ultimately it's going to come down to ref getting knocked out Rhea, um and Bianca brawling. One of them gets knocked out. Where they knock each other out, eo Scott takes advantage, bam boom, moonsault, one, two, three. Eo Scott retains. And, uh, where they knock each other out, io Sky takes advantage, bam Boom, moonsault, one, two, three. Io Sky retains and the underdog or the forgotten champion prevails on the biggest stage and shows once again why she is a women's champion, why she deserves to be the women's champion. And you know she's also undefeated against Rhea Ripley in her career. Look, I talked about it. Some things just ain't meant to be and it's just not meant to be for Rhea Ripley to be EOS guy Alright main event Night 2.
Speaker 1The American alright main event night two. The American Nightmare, cody Rhodes, defends his title against the one and only John Cena. It is his farewell tour. He is done after this year. He was so close to winning the rumble, we watched it together. Um, on discord. I mean, what a very just bullshit ending. He neither here nor there. He put himself into the elimination chamber and he said what's best for business is me winning title number 17. And he won the chamber. Granted, he may have had some assistance with the Saffron Stomp on Cena Punk's face on the chamber floor. Neither here nor there. You got a heel turn from John Cena. You got vintage John Cena just shredding Cody Rhodes on the mic. Yeah, and now it comes down to John Cena's final WrestleMania match in ring. Mr Cruz, does the inner childhood Cruz believe that Sita gets a one more time on WrestleMania's stage. Did selling his. He wins 17. He wins 17 At Wrestlemania, amen, amen.
Speaker 2I am sorry, the amount of times he has turned into a jobber for this company. He has proven his loyalty. He has proven his worth. He has been one of the best of a decade, of an era, if not of all time. He has proven that he is WWE inside and out. He deserves to win 17 at Mania.
Speaker 1Amen.
Speaker 2Amen.
Speaker 1Amen.
Speaker 2Oh, 100%, absolutely, and that's what's going to happen. Amen, don't get me wrong.
Speaker 1Cody will get it back eventually, oh, 100% absolutely 100%, because he dethroned Roman Reigns.
Speaker 2It's not going to be a one and done for Cody, even though Reigns is kind of fucking lackluster. That's neither here nor there. But Cena will Win at Mania and he will pass the torch back to Cody, probably in a best of three. It's fair, it'll be in a best of three and you know what? That's great. That's what's best for business. Great, that's what's best for business.
Speaker 2The fact that Cena's heel turn has been excellent. First time ever it's been excellent. He was heel when he started out, but turning back to heel is the first time. It's been nothing short of excellent. Breaking a kayfabe in certain parts is very great. It's been nothing short of excellent. The breaking of kayfabe in certain parts is very great. He is proving this is basically a whole acting audition, in my opinion, for Hollywood.
Speaker 2John Cena will win 17 at Mania against Cody Rhodes and for the remainder of the year will be him passing the torch. That's that, there's I just. You know Cody, just no matter how much we want to push it, no matter how much I wanted him to win against Reigns, he's been very lackluster. His mic skills are just not great. They're not convincing. His wrestling is good. I wouldn't consider it great. And the fact that Cena, just with a couple of months of training, could lace his boots up with all these people proves why he should win one more time. And I think that's exactly what he's going to do, and he says it himself he's winning 17 so that somebody, so he can shake the hand of the person that wins 18.
Speaker 2Yep, and you know, it's best for business. It's best for business because when are we going to have another person, especially with the roster now, with the eights now, that wins 16? Like it, just it's. You might not Exactly Like it might have to be. You got to push Austin Theory now, like, and he ain't ready. Or Braun Austin Theory now, and he ain't ready. Or Braun Breaker now, and he ain't ready. It's rare, it's going to be. If they miss this opportunity, they will not see it again for another era and they've got to do what's best for business. Cena is best for business.
Speaker 1Cena is best for business. Cena is best for business, cena is best for business. You talked about it earlier how you're good, you're going to sell to the champion that sells uh for the business. And there is, there is only uh, uh. On on one hand, uh, champions that sell for business better than than John Cena, um, right. And, by the way, champions that sell for business better than John Cena, right. And, by the way, backlash is going to be at St Louis, which is Randy Orton's hometown, by the way. So you know, just keep that in the back of your mind, just saying but I think Cena wins, I think he's earned the right and it is predetermined and they know the results in XYZ. He is one person where you can call your shot and you can go get it done, and I think Cena is going to get it done.
Speaker 1Cody Rhodes' title reign has been lackluster, plain and simple. Yes, it's been nothing. It hasn't been exciting. I don't even think he's had a title rematch with Roman since last year's Mania. I'm pretty sure on that. Like that's wild in itself. But yeah, I mean, you had Kevin Owens, you had, I think you had Jey Uso, you had Sami Zayn.
Speaker 1It's been a complete crapshoot of a year-long title run, and I agree with you as well. He beat Roman Reigns. And I agree with you as well. He beat Roman Reigns. He dethroned the longest reigning, the third longest title reign ever. You can't let that go to waste. And what better way to not let it go to waste than to get it back from Cena sometime this year before he goes off into the sunset?
Speaker 1I think that is when Cena will turn back, quote-unquote, to the good side, cena. That's where he will raise his arms up, he'll clap them, he'll give them a hug and then for the next three and a half months, cena is good Cena, or just OG Cena going out, because it just is. You're not going to as much as we want the heel to last the entire year, it's just not going to be it. It's like, look, we did it, we did it early in the year. We gave you a good majority of the year to just live as a true heel and at the end of the day, to like just live as, as as a true heel. And you know, at the end of the day you know it, I know it, wwe knows it like fans are gonna cheer for you because they sense, and they know that the the end is near um what's best for me, in my opinion, in my opinion, wins, and then he's got to prove that he can do it without Rock.
Speaker 2He challenges Rock for a title. He beats Rock finally, and then he gives Cody another shot and then Cody wins.
Speaker 1Yeah, that's probably why. Yeah, I think probably SummerSlam time era is where you're going to see Cena give up the belt, and what's best for business is John Cena winning title number 17 at WrestleMania. That is the pinnacle best for business move. At the end of the day, it's only best for business. He's earned it. He deserves it. He's been loyal to the same company for 25 years. It's time. He was the top dog.
Speaker 1For over a decade he took a reduced role and eased his way out of being the main guy and to push the other guys also to just get his ass beat by brock lesnar, when there was no need to push brock lesnar again in like the mid 2010s. Like you know, the austin theories and the 80s thought like that the band's done it all. It's just Right If you're going to, if you're going to have Cody win and you're going to have Cena win the title at some point this year. The problem is, I don't know who is a good enough opponent, business wise, to then have seen a take it from him, unless it's orton, unless, unless you, unless orton fucks around and makes a statement sunday night and cody wins and then oh, oh, my god, oh, my god, it's a viper, rko, and he picks up the belt and then, and then, like you, coast in the backlash, and then orton gets title number 15.
Speaker 1And then cena gets title number 17, like at russell, at uh, at summer slam, and then cody comes out of nowhere in the triple threat match and beats the boat for them at the end of the year. Maybe I don't know, just spitball in there, but there isn't a lot of guys that you could justify having Cody lose the belt to for Cena to win if any.
Speaker 1Maybe there just isn't, but I hope it's a good match. It's going to be chaos. The last 10 minutes are going to be absolutely chaotic. The Rock is 100% going to come out. I'm sure someone else is going to come out. It's going to be bananas and I'm going to be for it. Let's see if Taker comes out again.
Speaker 2Yeah right, I'm sure someone else is going to come out, it's going to be bananas and I'm going to be for it. Right, let's see if Taker comes out again randomly.
Speaker 1Yeah right, let's see. If Taker comes out again randomly, let me see a super AA off the top rope and Cody kicks out at like 2.99.
