What is going on, listeners? It's Saturday evening. Saturday night, depending on where you are. May 3rd, Kentucky Derby Saturday as well. It is your boy, Dylan Gatz. Turn the volume on power's back on. Join with me, as always from Oney Maryland, who I will see in roughly a month, Mr Cruz.
Speaker 2Yeah, that's right, you're going to be making a trip back to the East Coast. Yep, yep, how's it going? Mr Dylan Gossett, it's very good to see you Back for another weekly update of the Power Hour, trying to get back on track. We got a lot of stuff to talk about, don't we?
Speaker 1We do. Indeed, it's been a pretty good two weeks Just in the sports world and entertainment world. Obviously, april was full of what seemed like back-to-back-to-back-to-back weekends of just entertainment and action. But I do have a lot to talk about. I'll be back on the East Coast for a quick trip, but it will be for seeing you guys and sisters having guys and, you know, sisters having a baby shower. So I guess that's important. I don't know. Yeah, something like that, something like that. So she's I believe she's about to hit trimester number three, so she's in the home stretch there. So it'll be good. I'm excited, but it's going good over here. It's beautiful, sunny, high 60s.
Speaker 1We got a couple of Game 7s on right now. On the screen, colorado sports fans are going through right now. You got Nuggets and Clippers Game 7. Right now Nuggets are dominating the Clips at home and of course you got the Colorado Avalanche at Dallas Stars for Game 7. Also on the screen, it's 0-0 late in the first period. Another Game 7, I think tomorrow or Monday between the Rockets and the Golden State Warriors. So Game 7s are just so awesome in my opinion. I mean it's really two of the greatest words in sports. But of course, as always, you can check us out for free on all podcast platforms and at social media at DJPowerHour.
Kentucky Derby Recap
Speaker 1Mr Cruz, as you said, a lot to talk about. Of course we had the NFL draft, had a WrestleMania, a lot of shenanigans going on which we'll get into. Of course've got the big story that's been trending for the last week or so A gorilla. Could a hundred men take on a gorilla? We'll tackle that later on. Shador Sanders here and there he got drafted. That's the important part. But let's get a little recap here. Fresh off the press. You had the kentucky derby. Earlier today, um, roughly, roughly about two hours ago, you had sovertine taking it home and winning the 151st kentucky derby, followed by journalism, who was the morning favorite, and then biaza, uh, coming in rounding out your top three. I believe every horse was a descendant of secretariat. I believe that is what I read today. That was in the field today.
Speaker 3Secretary of racing, like 50 years ago that's fucking crazy dude I mean I mean, and they know, I don't know if anybody placed any bets during the Kentucky Derby?
Speaker 2I couldn't. Well, unfortunately, because of your state's restrictions, you could not or my app or your app. Yep, that being said, I really don't.
Speaker 2I dabbled in it for the first time this year. I know my girlfriend and her family. They're really into it for family ties. She has some luck because I think last year too she ended up betting. The thing is she accidentally placed a bet twice last year on the all-out first place winner. She won like $600. Fucking dumb. And she went ahead. And she placed a couple more bets this year and right before the race started she went ahead and placed a bet on the winner of Sovereignty, which is crazy. So she's up. That's great. I think I went ahead and I took Exactica or whatever it's called.
Speaker 1Yep. Exactly the finish.
Speaker 2Yep Exactly finished and, of course, when I placed it, I had it backwards. I had sovereignty taken second. And who took second place? What was his name? Journalism, journalism. Yeah, I had journalism taken second, and who took second place.
Speaker 2What was his name? Journalism, journalism. Yeah, had journalism taken first and you know what it is, what it is Bet 50, won like 12. You live and you learn. But yeah, you know it's crazy. There's so much hype leading up, and especially now that they got the uh freakness next. Uh, it's, it's so much money being exchanged, so much time and effort for like a 30 second race and it's just, I mean, it was cool like we were all hyped watching it and then it was over and then I had the question how do you figure out? You're a good jockey.
Speaker 1That's a great question.
Speaker 2Right, like you have to like actively be in it, like unless you have like what's it called? Like a query, a court, some type of equestrian yeah, equestrian club at like some school you're going to? How do you know you're good at horse racing?
Speaker 1I think. I think part of it is if you're not touched by god and you're um, you're a small stature, um a lot of things like. Like, from a physique standpoint, a lot is just not at your disposal. But jockeys are small fucking people. So I guess that's it and I guess I don't know. That's a fantastic. If anyone knows of a jockey or is an equestrian growing up, please, please, let us know how you discovered, how you get into it. It's expensive as all hell. So obviously it's a silver spoon kid family. But like, how do you get good at it? Start there and then like, how do you know you're good at it? That's it's. It's like the same thing with pole vaulting. That's true, that's that's. How do you know you're good at pole vaulting?
Speaker 2That's true. How do you know you're good at pole vaulting? I can understand you find out you're a prodigy at baseball or basketball or football or something like that, or even track and field, but riding horses not. A lot of people have access to it. Anyways, I'm getting off topic.
Speaker 1Well, no, you could put horse racing in water polo or the hammer throw. How do you know you've got the right step technique combination to fling that bitch. It is remarkable. It is a lot of money and attention for, in this case, like a two-minute race at the Kentucky Derby. It is actually incredible the spectacle that it creates. There was 144,000 people at Churchill Downs.
Speaker 2Yeah, dude, we were watching it and they announced that and I was like what that's insane dude, 144,000 people wasn't even the record, wasn't even the attendance record that's fucking insane man.
Speaker 1I yeah, it's insane, but you know. But look, it's just, I always forget it's the first Saturday in May and it just creeps up on you and then bam, like now you're in the horse season, because next month it's the Preakness, and then it's going to be the Belmont, and that's it. It's just those three races all through summer. So I definitely watched it. I turned it on about 15 minutes before it started and I mean it's, it's, it's quite, it's quite a scene, uh. But but congrats to your girl for just throwing money down and just winning all the time. Um, thank you, thank you, thank, thank you. Thank you, fanduel, for being fucking ridiculous and just logging me out of my info and not saving it, so I had to just switch to BetMGM. It is what it is, Whatever. We just got to make changes sometimes.
Speaker 2By the way, I won $25, not like $12.
Speaker 1Hey, look at that, hey, making money right there. I haven't. I actually I don't. I actually haven't bet as much as I used to since I switched to BetMGM. I haven't bet as much as I used to since I switched to BetMGM. I haven't missed a play, though, whenever I have made a bet at BetMGM. So we're rolling good fortune. And I've got Nuggets money line right now, which was at plus 110 before tip off. They're up by 25. So that's a winner. And then I did bet the Dallas Stars money line at, also, plus money at home in the Game 7. Their head coach, deboer for the Stars, has never lost a Game 7, by the way, he's 8-0 in Game 7s all time. I mean, why would you bet against perfection? You don't, that's what you do. You don't do it At that point right yeah At that point.
Speaker 1Yeah, you just print money at this rate. All right, let's see. So we'll work backwards here. You know what, actually, jk, let's do WrestleMania 41 recap. I feel like there's a lot more there to talk about, and that was two weeks ago, so we'll work our way up to present time. So at WrestleMania in Vegas, you had night one and night two, cruz, you and I watched night one and night two from start to finish. I get the idea of having two nights, but damn is night one terrible.
Speaker 2To be honest with you, I don't even remember which match I thought was the best one. I feel like we need to go over the match card.
Speaker 1I've got both nights of the match cards pulled up in front of me, don't you worry. Got got this covered to to, to rejog your memory here let's go ahead and go over it again yeah, we'll start night one. Also, the crowd was terrible night one. I I like it was fucking awful and that's all we talked about all night.
Speaker 2There were no pops, nope, the loudest they got were for entrances, and I mean it was just the lackluster. I'm pretty sure it wasn't, jey versus.
Speaker 1Gunther night one. Not only was Jey Uso versus Gunther night one, it was the kickoff match to WrestleMania for night one. That's right For the World Heavyweight title. And of course, yeeting down the strip, jey Uso, a couple super kicks, a couple top splash ropes, makes Gunther tap out though via rear naked choke to beat him and win the title.
Speaker 2I get why he used the rear naked choke to win the match. That's what Gunther had one done to Jay and done to Jimmy Storytelling. But Gunther tapped out right away, right away, and it made this person, who has been this dominating looming heel over the roster for the past three years, look weak and look just like so much less than and it was just like what was the point of the two-year-long IC title? What was the year of the almost year-long heavyweight title? Yeah, like, if you're going to have him lose, like that, maybe it's to prop Jay up, but I'm sorry, we talked about it during the match. It was five super kicks, five frog splashes and fucking three spears and that's all it was. That was all it was. I'm sorry, and I just feel like I don't think Jay's a good wrestler man. I don't, and I get why people like him because he's charismatic. I don't even think he's good on the mic the whole time.
Speaker 3He just talked like this and he talked like that and I'm gonna tell you now, don't get me wrong homie's athletic.
Speaker 2Now don't get me wrong Homie's athletic Question mark, but he just I feel like the only reason he got the run as heavyweight title champion is one because they needed to do something with his singles push because it was going absolutely nowhere. Two, he's going to eventually drop it to a bigger champion. And three because of his bloodline.
Speaker 1I mean, the bloodline definitely plays a pretty big factor in that push. By the way, gunther is now going up against Pat McAfee in like two weeks. Talk about a drop, talk about drop, talk about drop off in a month.
Speaker 2It's, it's a drop off. But also people forget how good Pat McAfee was in NXT and he had a match in NXT he was. He's surprisingly athletic. I mean, he's not good. It makes no sense for him to go up against Gunther, but it you know it. Just I don't know what Triple H is doing. I feel like that's pretty much the atmosphere since WrestleMania this huge, long buildup.
Speaker 1I guess it's part of the plan, but we'll see, I mean now after the fact, I mean the Rock wasn't even at WrestleMania. The Rock just like, threw this fucking last-minute storyline Hail Mary for Elimination Chamber, which has no culmination anywhere in the masses. I don't know, I don't know where the creativity game plan goes from here. Knowing all of that, it's funny because Bleacher Report, all of that it's very it's funny because Bleacher Report gave that match, by the way, an A. That's a fucking joke.
Speaker 1And the first thing they said is immediately this felt like a main event worthy match. Now, I don't know, I don't know if it, I don't know if it should have been the first match to kick it off, but it definitely did not look like a main event worthy match. It definitely was not a main event worthy match. It was pretty lackluster to kick off WrestleMania. People were still getting in their seats for crying out loud Just bad, jey Uso. Next year at the World Tag Team Championships, which was a War Raiders versus a New Day, bleacher Report gave it a C+. I don't care about this match. Honestly, not really sure how. New Day is still a New Day and they won the titles. But yeah, the lack of reaction was a diamond on the creative, or lack thereof, that went into the tag team division. No kidding.
Speaker 2Yeah, I mean like it's crazy to me that you know the New Day don't get me wrong, I love Kofi, I love Xavier, but that the New Day are getting a push and Cora Jade just got fucking cut by the WWE along with so many other talented, you know, superstars if you want to call them that.
Speaker 1Yeah, I mean, Braun Strowman got cut too.
Speaker 2Yeah, but he gets cut and rehired every three years. So I mean, I saw that coming. He's only there to be a big imposing threat until he's not. But there's a lot of people that got cut that you know. It's kind of a head-scratcher man because there are some ongoing stories and ongoing factions that they were a part of that are still kind of prominent right now, especially with Bayley and EO and all that shit, and it's just very confusing.
Speaker 1Triple H. What are you doing, dog? Yeah, what are you doing? Alright. Next you had Jade Cargill one-on-one with Naomi. Obviously, the rivalry from when Jade was attacked months ago came back. I figured that was Naomi Beat Naomi. She's 2-0 at WrestleMania for Jade Cargill. It was an okay match? Definitely wasn't. I mean, it was an okay match. That's really the best way I can explain it. The best thing was the pin on Naomi. That was pretty dope. That was physically super impressive. You had the US title match. You had Ellie Knight versus Jacob Fatu. Jacob Fatu gets the win, gets his first championship piece of gold Well-deserved by the way, but you know.
Speaker 1I mean, he dominated the match, in my opinion, from start to finish, which is probably I mean probably to no one's surprise. But yeah, so you know, bloodlines just getting to tons, all right. And then you had Ray Phoenix, who was supposed to be Ray Mysterio, who got hurt, I think the day before Ray Phoenix versus El Grande Americano Look as as a head scratcher match. This was in, you know, chad Gable in a luchador mask. They actually, they actually put on performance.
Speaker 2Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1Um.
Speaker 2I mean, I feel like it was a waste of a WrestleMania debut for Ray Phoenix, but now it was still good.
Speaker 1Yeah, it was pretty good. It was decent for what it was and, of course, chad Gable gets the victory. You had the women's championship match Tiffany Stratton, aka Tiffy Time versus Charlotte Flair. Of course Tiffany Stratton got aka Tiffy Time versus Charlotte Flair. Of course Tiffany Stratton got the win there. Probably two-thirds of this match was actually pretty boring. I don't know if it was because I was on night one and the crowd just still wasn't into it at that point, but I think it's also Charlotte Flair fatigue. It could be a lot of things, but it only picked up towards the end. I'm curious what they're going to do with Charlotte Flair now. I mean, you came back, you won the Rumble, you got your title shot. You lost it. So like now what?
Speaker 2Go get married, get plastic surgery, get a divorce. Come back.
Speaker 1And then you had they said Charlotte Fatigue. Yeah, 100%. I think it's definitely Charlotte Fatigue. And then you had the main event triple threat match CM Punk versus Roman Reigns versus Seth Rollins Easily the best match of the night, without question. And of course, the big turn of events was Paul Heyman betraying CM Punk, giving a steel chair to Roman Reigns and then betraying Roman Reigns and giving him a low blow, and now partnering up with Seth Rollins and Braun Breaker for some new faction.
Speaker 2Yeah, which goes to beg the difference. I mean, you know, I had a feeling it was going to happen. I just didn't think he was going to portray Punk at the same time. I definitely felt like he was going to go home and walk out of WrestleMania with Rollins. I do think it was a good storyline telling, saying that you could see Heyman was obviously distraught when doing it to punk. When he did it to Roman it looked like it was on purpose and that he do it, you know, especially with the way Roman has treated him over the past five years. Um, but you know it is definitely interesting to see the new faction. Haman is on the up and up, especially with his bride that he debuted on TikTok.
Speaker 1She's 22 years old, by the way.
Speaker 2Smokeshow, but no, it's definitely interesting. You know, I feel like there's enough for maybe one or two more people in this faction to make it complete At this point. It's a game of who's it going to be. I could definitely see what's his name Austin Theory. I could definitely see an Austin Theory. Part of me also wants to say Dominic Mysterio, because I mean the Judgment Day, the writing's on the wall.
Speaker 3at this point, especially with what happened at night two, but we'll get more into that later on.
Speaker 2And yeah, I mean, I feel like even a woman would be in there. A lot of people were talking about Becky Lynch. Possibly she has her heel turned, but it's all up in the air. Man, I'm definitely interested to see where that goes. Or the new.
Speaker 1Evolution type situation Very interested to see the potential Evolution 2.0. The match itself was pretty great in my opinion and I think it's just a culmination of 10 plus years of just like emotion and like hatred and X, y and Z boiled up in between those three guys. I mean overall fantastic match. I mean it was entertaining. They all performed super well. I mean that last third of the match was insane, especially with the portrayals. I thought Punk was going to go in and win. In my opinion, I thought it was going to be just a nice kind of closing chapter that he was missing, getting his WrestleMania main event and then getting his first WrestleMania main event win. But obviously there's still a lot of authentic hate and dislike between those three guys. So they do have that going for them and Triple H does have that to work with when it comes to developing this new faction and the storytelling itself there. So I mean that was the best match of the night. It's the reason it was the last match of the night for night one and then we get into night two.
Speaker 1I mean night two kicked it off super, super great on a much higher foot. You had the triple threat match for the women's title. You had Io Sky, rhea Ripley, bianca Belair. That was to me. It was a really good match. After the first 25% it just took off. On another level. Io Sky retains her title. I believe she remains undefeated against Rhea Ripley in competition. It looked like Rhea was going to win late. It looked like Bianca was going to win late with her KOD and then Io Sky just comes out of nowhere. It's that moonsault boom.
Speaker 2I've been saying it for weeks, if not months Io Sky is probably one of the best wrestlers in the company right now. She's having probably one of the best championshiplers in the company right now. She's having probably one of the best championship runs we've seen in a while. She's been defending her title. She's been doing a hell of a lot. She's killing it right now. She is the hottest champion on the roster right now.
Speaker 2She's saying a lot with everything that's been going on. Great, great match, especially to start night one. It was fantastic, definitely set the night.
Speaker 1Definitely, yeah, definitely set the tone for night two. And then you had Drew McIntyre and Damian Priest in the Sin City Street Fight. This match actually went better than I thought it was going to be.
Speaker 2For sure, for sure.
Speaker 1And for that match to end with Damian Priest in the corner and then getting a Claymore kick to a steel chair to his fucking skull, like oh my god.
Speaker 2Yeah, and he actually got hurt and you know I remember seeing people at WrestleMania. They were showing him after getting carted off. But also after he got carted off apparently he was back behind the curtains, you know, like in grill and everything and he was okay for the most part. But you know it was they definitely tried to steal the show man. I was very impressed with how it ended up happening and how it wrapped up it was cool to watch.
Speaker 2You know they were putting on a fucking show and I mean, you know Drew finally gets his win that he's been needing for so long.
Speaker 3Yeah.
Speaker 2And you know it's interesting to see, especially with what to do with Priest and McIntyre after this, because you know what else is there for them to do right now besides the challenge for the B titles? You know what I mean? Really not much besides going up against Batuu or going up against well, you know, dominic.
Speaker 1Oh, good old Dirty Dom, we'll get to Dirty Dom, don't you worry. Yeah, I was definitely invested more in that match, maybe because it was a street fight, but you know, street fights in like Matches when weapons can be used now Is just not the same. On what we grew up on.
Speaker 1It just doesn't hit different or it just doesn't hit the same on what we grew up on. It just doesn't hit different. It just doesn't hit the same. It was pretty entertaining. Shellshock DDT on the steel stairs McIntyre got chokeslammed on the steel stairs too, and then the Claymore to the fucking face and chair. It was a good match. Damien definitely looked glossed over. His eyes were definitely glossed over. After that he probably had a pretty mild concussion in the back and I believe I saw Damian Priest is like now going after LA Knight. So that's going to be interesting, mcintyre, mcintyre, who knows who's going interesting? Mcintyre, mcintyre, who knows what you're going to do, mcintyre? But to your point, he did get a much-needed win for a win he's needed for a while. So you don't have to keep hearing bitch about I'm getting screwed by everybody.
Speaker 1Fucking McIntyre this and yada, yada, yada that we don't want to see him win.
Speaker 3Everybody fucking screws McIntyre and everybody fucking screws back the entire.
Speaker 1And then, well you know what, speaking of Dirty Dom, next match on the board he had, you had Dirty Dom versus Brom Breaker versus Finn Balor versus Penta, fatal four way. You don't see this much anymore for the intercontinental title. And Cruz Boyd, dirty Dom, dominic Mysterio, off the top rope, hits a splash, wins his title.
Speaker 2And he pins his Judgment Day partner, finn Balor, to do it, and I'm sorry to me, this was match of the night. It was fantastic from start to finish. It was action-packed. They pressed on the gas, they did not let up the entire match. Everybody was really good, really solid during the match, and you know what I fucking called it. I fucking had a feeling Dirty Don was going to come in there and win his biggest title and his biggest match to date.
Speaker 2What do you know? He does it. He's sitting there. Like I said, it spells the end for the Judgment Day, especially since he pinned Finn to do it. It needs to happen. I feel like the Judgment Day has run its course at this point. It's more of a gimmick in my opinion, especially seeing it week after week on Raw. It's just, it's getting old man, especially since you know. I mean, how long have they been around for?
Speaker 1It's been years.
Speaker 2It's been like since before COVID right.
Speaker 1You're probably right. Yeah, Like right before COVID.
Speaker 2uh, when edge started come all out, uh, which is crazy to even think about. Cause, how long has he been in?
Speaker 1a couple of a couple of years now.
Speaker 2Right and uh, you know it's, it's, it's dude, um, and I'm just happy Dirty Dom he is. Don't get me wrong. When he first got into the league, into the league, into WWE, he was a nipple baby we use that term a lot on the show and he was every bit of that. Since he's been In the show, he's Done his bumps, he's done his licks, he's done his bumps, he's done his licks. He's gotten better over time. He has gotten better on the mic and during the backstage segments. Whenever he's had to, homie paid his dues and if he was ever going to be anything more than a gimmick wrestler which is what he was I mean they had to do something and it was the right call. When you heard that pop, you heard the pop. That was the most the fans had been engaged between both nights at that point, yeah, and probably the biggest pop at WrestleMania altogether. I mean it was cool to see yeah.
Speaker 2It was cool to see.
Speaker 1It was. I mean from the get-go. I mean the match was on point from start to finish. And you know Penta, who just came in in January fresh, you know you got the judgment day brewing, fumbling apart, falling apart Backstage, bron Breaker, just a man on a mission to steamroll everybody. I mean it's. It was definitely. It was definitely good for dom to have this opportunity to break out and like, be dominic mysterio and nothing else, um, to be intercontinental title to I. I think you're right. I think the judge of day is cooked. Um, I think that is to crumble apart here in the next couple weeks. It'd be good, for I think we're really going to see next steps and elevations take for Dom and company. Penta will still be around. Of course. Bron Breaker with Seth Rollins is now going to be the push for him to be more main event ish. So it's going to be cool. It was definitely one of the top three matches of the entire weekend. Probably was the biggest pop when he came back out after the match too to celebrate in the ring just by himself. I mean they were for it. So good for Dirty Dom.
WrestleMania Night Two Breakdown
Speaker 1Randy Orton competed in his 20th WrestleMania match, was asking for an opponent. Kevin Owens was hurt, couldn't participate, and we had no idea who it was going to be. And then you say his name and he appeared. And he appeared, the TNA heavyweight champion, joe Henry, making his WrestleMania debut against the Viper.
Speaker 2I mean, don't get me wrong, I get it, but they could have like, I felt like it was just such a. They could have done something fantastic. They could have brought so many people back. They could have seen the many people back. They could have seen the introduction of Aleister Black. They could have done a lot of different things. To me, it just felt like Randy's what was it? His 20th WrestleMania. It was a gimmick. At that point it was a gimme and you know it was cool. Joe Hendry yeah, he's really popular right now. He's showing up on TNA, he's showing up on NXT, he's showing up on Raw. He finally made his WrestleMania debut. But it was a gimme.
Speaker 1That was the gimmick point of night two. There's always a gimmick point somewhere in the night, and that was it right there.
Speaker 2And I mean it was funny, especially seeing Randy Orton do his turnaround into his iconic pose. I mean, even he was laughing about it, but you know he was a good sport, it was an all right match, I guess. If you want to say that, I mean it was a moment, he was a good sport, it was an alright match, I guess if you want to say that it was a moment.
Speaker 1It was a three-minute moment is really what it was. Whatever, 20 WrestleMakers on your belt, that's something For Joe Henry. I know he's got to be on planet friggin' Mars after that. All right, last two matches before we get to the main event. Yeah, logan Paul and AJ Styles, that was actually a pretty good match. Logan Paul, yes, he is entertaining, he is athletic, he is a performer. X, y and Z, I will give you all of that, and to me, paul really dominated the match against Styles, for sure.
Speaker 2Which makes sense now to see what they're doing on Raw, especially since he seems like the really big push against Jey Uso and his new title you know, what I mean, but they had to and, like we were talking about before on the last episode, aj's there to pull people over.
Speaker 2Man, he's pretty much what Cena was from like 2016 until 2021, 2022. Give or take. Yeah, he's pretty much there to prop up the next guys. Would we like to see him get another title run? Of course, will he probably get another B title run at the United States or the IC title Maybe? But you know he is going towards the end of his career and you know who better to put and establish another young buck in the industry kind of like Logan Paul than AJ Styles? Yeah, and it was entertaining. Street. Kind of like logan paul then aj styles yeah, and it was entertaining. I mean I guess you know logan went ahead, hit him with his new the pulverizer and you know it looks good, it looks clean, but the pulverizer all of you, yeah, I mean if, if he wants to do it full time man.
Speaker 2I've been saying this homie has talent. He just you know he just needs more time, needs more, and I guess we're seeing it now on Raw and he's not disappointing. I hate to say it. He's really not. He's a hell of a heel. People hate him and I understand why. And if he just gets a little bit better on the mic I see some flashes of old 2000s wrestling heel coming out of him right now where he's being overzealous with everything he says. You know he's making sure to disrespect the crowd. You really don't see that too much anymore.
Speaker 2Where they attack a hometown hero or they attack a hometown team. You know, it's very like it doesn't sting like the way it used to with the crowd and maybe it's just because it's Logan Paul and people just fucking hate Logan Paul.
Speaker 1but you know it's, it's, it's in, and that and that and that carries, that's going to, that's going to carry. Yeah Well, we'll see what this push between him and Jay will look like and how it unfolds. You had Women's Intercontinental Champion, Laia Valkyria and her mystery partner, Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez, to win the Women's Tag Team titles.
Speaker 1We had a return, the return of the man Becky Lynch. It was very cool hearing that music hit again. It's been a while Been a while, been a while, been about a year, maybe a little over a year, since she's been in the ring. It was super cool to see her come back and she looked good. I mean she looked good in the ring, I mean a little bit of plastic surgery you know, whatever didn't affect her ring performance yeah it's her own prerogative, so it was good to see her come back.
Speaker 1Obviously, they won the titles. And then the next night at Raw they had a rematch and they lost the titles. And then Becky Lynch said fuck this, I'm going to kick your ass afterwards and I'm going to do me.
Speaker 2Right said fuck this. Um, I'm gonna kick ass afterwards and I'm gonna do, I'm gonna do me right. So which you know? I mean, has becky really been a heel yet? Because I I don't remember really seeing her asa heel, unless it back in nxt I don't know, because she was in her faction before horseman nxt.
Speaker 1Right, right, right, yeah. So not really. This is gonna be is going to be new charted territory for her, so that that that should be exciting to see. And then, of course, the main event for night two yeah, cody Rhodes, the American American Nightmare defending his title, which he won last year, against Roman Reigns, against the greatest World title victory, breaking the all-time mark, john Cena, stands alone at the top of the mountain 17. The match was terrible. We all know it. It was god-awful. His new entrance is fitting his heel to a T.
Speaker 1I was very disappointed that the match didn't end on an AA, whatever, but it was cool to see the five knuckle shuffle. You could see he was torn in the moment. Like man, fuck these fans. But it's my, it's my last WrestleMania, like I gotta, I gotta hit him. So that was cool. It's nostalgia for you and I at the end of the day. Look, the match could have been mid-card, you could have had something else in there, but you weren't going to do it to Cena for his last WrestleMania. You see history, he wins number 17. The Rock never showed up. Travis Scott of all people, fucking showed up. Travis Scott, of all people Fucking, showed up at the end of the match. The way the match ended was pretty terrible, plain and simple. It was actually one of the worst matches the entire weekend. It really was.
Speaker 2It's crazy. There's a lot of ways this is being portrayed, especially with what's come out with the Rock since then. And you never know in sports entertainment, especially with WWE, what's a shoot and what's a work. Yep, and again, if you don't follow wrestling, shoot is real, work is part of the storyline. You never know what's what. And one of the main things when John Cena went on his heel turn or he doesn't call it a heel turn, he's just being himself One of the things he said is that he wants to ruin professional wrestling and that he wants to be the last true champion.
Speaker 2There's a lot of ways that could be portrayed, especially with how the ending of Wrestlemania Night 2 played out, and we were talking about it in the group chat with our friends and and Grimm had a really good point. If this is a work and they meant for it to end this way like that, it's crazy. They're using the main event of Night 2 of Wrestlemania to prove a point for his heel turn. That is fucking insane, especially if you look at those ticket prices. That's fucking insane, especially if you look at those ticket prices. That's fucking insane. And I'm pretty sure for summer slam. This is off topic. We'll get back on topic in a second but front row seats for summer slam right now are going for forty thousand dollars and, by the way, summer slam is now two nights, which I don't like whatsoever.
Speaker 1I don't like that, I don't like all the. We don't need two nights for every goddamn event.
Speaker 2But well, that's tony khan. That's tony I, I, yeah, I, I get it, I get it money, merchandise, all that shit, but forty thousand dollars for ringside, that's that's a fucking down payment on a really nice house, depending on where you live like that's fucking insane, but anyways, um, the rock went ahead and went on the Pat McAfee show and talked about why he was not at WrestleMania.
Speaker 2He says that Cena was never supposed to turn heel. It was supposed to be Cody that got X'd out and when that got X'd out, he checked out Again. You don't know if it's a work or if it's a shoot, because Pat McAfee is also signed to WWE and TKO, who the Rock is a board member of. So it's like what's real, what's fake, what's going on, and that's pretty much the state of wrestling after WrestleMania, especially after this main event of Night 2. Because, you're right, the match was mid at best, terrible. The match was mid at best. You know, a couple of FUs, a couple of what is it? The Cody, what are they called?
Speaker 1Yeah, you have the Cody Cutter, and then his Crossroads is his finishing winner.
Speaker 2A couple of them, a couple of that. He ends up winning. And I remember we were literally watching and I was like that's how he wins it. That's how he wins it 17? I mean, I guess we saw 17 get won, but at the end of the day it's just it felt like a lot was left on the table. But again, is that the point? But then again, if that's the point, to do that on wrestlemania is fucking insane. Like it just it doesn't make a lot of sense. Maybe that's what they're going for. If it is, it still doesn't make a lot of sense. Maybe that's what they're going for. If it is, it still doesn't make any sense. And it needs to have a bigger payoff than what we have, because I don't know how the fuck to take it ever since then.
Speaker 1It's because it just it's fucking mind boggling it is and it's not going to, it's not going to be able to be understood until after this year, when Cena is done in the ring, because from here until the end of the year, it's going to be about Cena and the only decision you have to make between now and then and it's probably already been decided and written down and discussed is when is he losing the title and who is he losing it to, and is it going to be at his last match? Those are the three questions you that will get answered this year. Everything else is on the back burner. And when you, you make a great point when it comes to like what is what is real? And like can you take someone at their word or is it part of the story and the storytelling?
Speaker 1The industry itself and like really selling people to get more invested in WWE and the entertainment aspect. When you listen to Triple H or the Rock, when you hear them answer questions, it's calculated but it's a big circle. They circle the entire question itself and give you nine different directions of like where the fuck to go, and you're like I just wish you wouldn't have answered.
Speaker 2I just wish you wouldn't have answered the question, because I don't know what to make of that right, and it's crazy too, because I mean like ever since, you know, triple H took over, before that, still in the Vince McMahon era, the thing, is. It was really, really predictable. It really was.
Speaker 2Vince liked his guys, he knew who he liked, who he propped up he knew who he was going to give that title to or that shot to, because of either the name or their stature or their physique or anything like that. You know vince had hit guys. He liked big buff burley and he liked chicks with the big dicks like it's, it's or the names attached to him. That was vince to a t. You know he went ahead. He let his champions go off once at a time, just to come back and win championships in less than five minutes. It was very predictable.
Speaker 2We are in uncharted territories for the first time since the mid-2000s at best, where you don't know what the fuck is going to happen. Got no clue. You really don't Whether it be for better or whether it be for worse. Maybe that's what they're trying to go for, but again, it's still like it's not hitting. It's not hitting but we're still fucking talking about it like this. That's the thing. That's the thing that gets me where it's like. This is all the work, because everybody's trying to figure out what the fuck is going on. I don't know, maybe they're just imploding, who knows?
Speaker 1it could be a big ruse, it could be fucking imploding. But oftentimes you hear, you hear wrestlers talk about how they they catch themselves like being in character outside of the ring, and that goes with interactions, answering questions, behaviors, and I maybe it's because of social media and like all the all the extra access to content we have like that's exactly. I mean, triple h's job is all about creativity and getting people engaged and interested and you could see and you see it in how he answers questions and talks about the business, and you don't know whether to step away because your brain hurts. So, fuck, I guess I got to watch to actually understand what he talked about three months ago, because I took like and then bam, and then it hits you.
Speaker 1You're like, oh my god, he said this, he alluded to this. But oh my god, he said this, he alluded to this, but he didn't say anything about alluding to this. But like it's just it. When they say it's like it's an artwork and it's like a craft, it really fucking is and and that's that's always going to be one of the like, the mystical elements of the wwe and the entertainment aspect is it's something you can't, it's something you just can't replicate because like it's, it's not like a regular sport. And then, from an audience standpoint, like the, the different levels of investment, and like intelligence, you have to have to like stay up to date and to like try and find pieces that aren't even there, but then they fit some at some point down the road. I mean it's ridiculous.
Speaker 2it's ridiculous, but I guess I mean sorry, I didn't mean to cut you off. But, that being said, I'm sorry to cut you off. But that being said, I haven't really watched wrestling since the Raw after May.
Speaker 1Listen, we're getting Randy Orton and John Cena for the title in like two weeks at St Louis. We're going to get one more time between those two. Oh, that promo's going to be fucking. That's all you need to know. Yeah for sure. That's all you need to know. That's all you need to know. I think it's in two weeks, St Louis Backlash.
Speaker 3Bruh.
Speaker 1Man, that would be some shit. What if the Rock shows up? Then you know what I mean, see, and then you're like like what the fuck he's checked out? He didn't show up to Mania at all. He's driving somewhere like fucking Hawaii, or like going to a movie set and then bang.
NFL Draft Analysis
Speaker 2He shows up. I will tell you this Both me and Mr Dillagatz will be watching it, and we're not Getting on Discord about it the entire time, but it's going to be something, man.
Speaker 1It's going to be something. I'm excited. All right, went from WrestleMania to the NFL Draft. Nfl Draft was last week. Last week, yeah, last week.
Speaker 2Last Thursday through Saturday.
Speaker 1Yep, yeah, last Thursday through Saturday, Of course you had Cam Morgan at number one overall. You had Chaos already at number two. The Jaguars traded up from the fifth spot to number two drafted Travis Hunter. Cleveland took Mason Graham to de-tackle at the number five spot when they traded back A lot of different takeaways, not just from round one but just from the draft in general. Cruz, I think it really stood out to me just in round one. Before we get into the minutiae of everything, how the hell is Colston Loveling getting drafted before Tyler Warren? I just don't understand.
Speaker 2I don't know what people are seeing, not to make light of the fact that, you know, chicago did take a tight end and we did have bets for Tyler Warren to go in that spot, which he should have gone, should have, especially with Colston coming off of a pretty significant injury and, you know, not really getting that much playing time leading up to his draft year. It's just Tyler Warren, special dude, he was one of the most intricate pieces of this draft. If you just watched any of his games at Penn State. He took the games over, yes, and he was a receiving threat. He could block, he could do any and everything he needed to do at any point in the game, on whichever position in the field, besides quarterbacking.
Speaker 2Some players are just dogs. He's a dog. Now, I'm not trying to make light of anything Colston has done, and especially at Michigan. You know he had a hell of a run, but he wasn't Tyler Moore and it felt like it was a Bears draft pick. You know Mitch Trubisky, it's just. You know, kevin White, they're going after these players. That I mean, you see. I mean, to be honest, I didn't think Pat Mahomes was going to be Pat Mahomes when he came out nobody did.
Speaker 1If we all had hindsight, we'd be billionaires right, exactly.
Speaker 2But some players you just can't miss on like that. And I feel like tyler warren, he could go in indianapolis, he could be a difference maker, especially for your favorite player, anthony richardson.
Speaker 2Um, but you know, it's just, it's right right, you missed on a special player man, you, you, you're trying to go ahead and build this team around Caleb Williams and you know you just can't be. I mean we again we could be wrong in about seven months and be eating our word right now. We could be, but chances are we're fucking not. But like it's just, you know some, and not to mention, I could have made like 200 bucks, like come on, don't take the best tight end in the draft.
Speaker 1Come the fuck on, I agree, agreed. Hey, ashton Gienty went to the Raiders though that was plus 750. See, that was no brainer. See, that's what I'm saying. No brainer. There's some, some picks are just no brainer. Yeah, taking Loveland, I'll shit on him. He wasn't that great. Um at Michigan 56 catches last year. That's the most in the season ever for a tight end at Michigan. I've seen that trick one trick pony about three different times. Uh, coming out Michigan, they're all dog water. Tyler Warren played snaps at quarterback center, left tackle receiver, fullback running back.
Speaker 2That's what I'm saying. He's a fucking dog and he excelled every single place he fucking went to. Yeah, he's a star. Like there's nothing in his tape that made you go, maybe not.
Speaker 1No, he was a top. Well, yeah, we could be wrong. He was a top ten player. He should have been the first signing off the board. He has dog water at quarterback, unfortunately in Indianapolis between Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones, so like I don't know, Daniel Jones the poor man, Something like I don't know.
Speaker 1Something like that. All right, we'll be more of the first round. Obviously, you had you had a couple. You had a couple interesting picks. You had you had Emeka Igbuka, you know, drafted 19th overall to the Buccaneers. You had the Panthers take the first receiver off the board at eight, teteora McMillan from Arizona, which he would have been the first receiver off the board anyway. Just didn't think it'd be that high. Broncos took Jaday Barron corner out of Texas. I like the pick, I don't like that. Omari and Hampton went to the Chargers two picks later, unfortunately, because that could just shoot us in the ass.
Speaker 1But Johnny Barron won the Thorpe Award last year. If no one knows what that means in college football, thorpe Award is the best defensive back in college football. Now it's interesting because the Heisman winner won the award for best defensive player but didn't win their award for best defensive back, which is what he played. Interesting, Just very interesting. I'm going to just say that and just leave that as is. But look, broncos had 66 sacks last year, which was a franchise record. They led the league in sacks. They allowed 18 points per game, which was third fewest in the NFL. The second half of the season was brutal for Riley Moss when he came back from the injury. I don't think it tells me they're giving up on Moss, but I think it definitely tells me that Moss is probably going to be put into the slot position. Instead You're going to have PS2 and Jadé Barron covering the outsides, and Barron could switch in between and be slot as well. So it's a good rotational piece to pair with Hufunga in the safety spot.
Speaker 1Was it a position of need? No, at the end of the day, running back was a position of need. And they drafted RJ Harvey from UCF later on. But I do like the pick. I think it tells me they're very aware of the offensive power that is in the AFC West, still as a division. And then, obviously, the Chargers. They drafted some pieces to go with Herbert the Chiefs well, it's Pat Mahomes.
Speaker 1And then the Raiders you got GNT, you got Bowers. Their quarterback group is dog shit, so that's just what it is. And then Jacoby Myers has been a baller since he's gone to Vegas. So, like I, like their thinking, but damn, we still have no weapons. To go with Court and Sutton. And now, like RJ Harvey, well, we have Evan Ingram now, but for him to come in and learn the playbook. We're not going to see how much that really progresses and if it works out, but it was a good pick. If you get the Thorpe winner late in the first round, I mean that's a win in my book. And then you had the Washington Commanders picked at 29, by the way, because they went to the NFC Championship game last year. So that's what happens when you make it far you pick late and they drafted Josh Connerly Jr, a tackle from Oregon Stayed up until 1130 to see an offensive tackle get drafted Cruz. Love that for you. Now there's a lot of ways that I took this.
Speaker 2I for sure think that there were bigger positions of need when it came to our number 29 overall pick, which by far was the latest I have ever had to stay up for a draft in my fucking life. It was different man. I had work the next day, I was tired. I'm sitting there. I'm having to kind of shake my head. Well, okay, we're getting ready to pick 27. Fuck, you know what I mean.
Speaker 2But the thing is Edge. Even though Mike Green has allegations against him that are not great, he's going to be a dog in the NFL and I'm telling you right now that dude is going to be fucking something special and you know the Ravens went ahead and got them in round two. Ravens know how to fix attitude and adjust them. They've done it their entire careers with different players at different situations. He's going to be just fine, hopefully. I don't know a lot of these players coming out. They'd be fucking up, but hopefully you know what happened, wasn't true? Hopefully, if it was, he does whatever he needs to do to make it right and if that happens, he's got to be a dog. I wanted him to go at 29.
Speaker 1There was also the quarterback out of Kentucky that I liked, Maxwell Harrison who went right after you guys.
Speaker 2Right, I was a big fan of him. You saw it on draft night. He was congratulating every single player that walked by him. He has that type of energy. We definitely needed another quarterback, josh Connerly Jr. Out of like 1,089 pass-blocking snaps in his career in college, he lit up two sacks.
Speaker 1That's pretty good. That's pretty good. That's pretty fucking good. That's pretty good.
Speaker 2That's pretty fucking good. I think his PFF grade for pass blocking was like an 80.4. It's also great. Now again, mike Green kind of blew up on the scene during the whole get-together. I guess you want to call it the pro days that they have leading up to the draft. He blew up Josh Connerly Jr. He knocked him right on his ass. You know what. I'm not too worried about that, but at the end of the day, as a franchise, if you have your clear-cut number one quarterback, you have to protect him. Yeah, so I get the pick Granted.
Speaker 2We traded for Laramie Tunsell, another top pass-blocking tackle in the league, already established. You know Cosme's hurt. Al Goretti is probably going to go ahead and start in his place until he gets back. We're going to have Brandon Coleman, who was a rookie left tackle last year that played great. The first half of the year kind of fell apart, the second half. Move him inside. I fit guard better anyways. And then we have Tyler Battias. He was very underrated. He came in kind of solidified the inside interior of that offensive line. It was a move that was not flashy by any means, but it's also a move that sets up your team for at least the next five years. Yeah, it was a smart move. It wasn't flashy, that's the thing, and we went ahead and we addressed quarterback, the second round, which I feel like we got a quarterback that was first-round talent in Trey Amos, big, good size, no hate to him, but definitely not the size of a manual force.
Speaker 1Well, well, my, my frigging 11 year old nephew is bigger than a manual Forbes.
Speaker 2Like Jesus Christ, that's fucking yeah, that's fucking crazy dude. When as soon as that happened, I was like, oh damn, ron's cooked, cooked, that it's just. You know he's big, I think he's like 6'1", like 190, 203, 205, or something like that. And you know he'll definitely help solidify, especially now that we have Latimer. We got Mike Sanders still. It'll definitely help that defensive back which is sorely lacking. Last year Got a couple other key pieces but you know, for a five-pick draft it wasn't terrible.
Speaker 1Well, you had more picks, but you traded some. When you traded for Laramie Tunsil, which I mean, considering who? And Debo, yeah and Debo. But considering the Giants have Abdul Carter, kayvon Thibodeau and Brian Burns, the Cowboys are going to have DemMarcus Lawrence, micah Parsons and Ezer Rico from Boston College, and then the Eagles. Well, the Eagles just have fucking everybody Like it's just, they have everybody from Georgia and Bama.
Speaker 2Yeah, I mean, we had to do something, like pretty much we had to do something to combat that, and you're right, and I'm sorry, but the Giants, in my opinion, had one of the best drafts over this past weekend.
Speaker 3They did the.
Speaker 2Giants now granted whatever Jackson Dart becomes. Maybe they gave too much up the trade back into the first round to get him, but I feel like you know they like their pretty white boy quarterbacks. You know, wow, it's just. I mean quote unquote the pretty, but it's just, they needed a quarterback. They went ahead and got the best pass rusher or one of the best pass rushers. They're going to be a fucking problem. They got Cam Scadabo too.
Speaker 1They did get Cam Scadabo. They got Rust and Jameis in their quarterback room too.
Speaker 2Yeah, okay, russ could go 30 for 30 and throw for like 4,500 yards to a 7-10 record. Sure, I'm telling you, man, like Giants, I felt like for the first time in a long time they did a lot of things in this draft process.
Speaker 1I think they did too. They definitely had to make up for Trey Saquon last year. Yeah, I mean, it's going to be a really tough division again in the NFC East. If you know, dax ain't healthy for the Cowboys and the Giants. Who knows what they're going to do there? And then the Eagles, of course. Fucking fucking Jahai Campbell, linebacker out of bandwidth, just falls all the way down to 31. Top 10 player, just top 10 prospect, just falling all the way down to fucking Philly. We can't keep. They just can't keep getting away with this. Ain't nobody else needing a linebacker? Ain't nobody else needing a linebacker between fucking 3 and 31.
Speaker 2Seriously, that's crazy, that's fucking crazy.
Speaker 1Actually, yeah, yeah, no one Since Abdul Carter and you could put him at edge. Or linebacker yeah, campbell was the only linebacker, true linebacker, drafted in the first round to the fucking Philadelphia Eagles Unbelievable, unbelievable. All right Falcons also traded back into the first round and they got James Pierce out of Tennessee. They really made a big move there. And the Packers, the Packers drafted a wide receiver for the first time in the first round in like fucking ever. That's a big fuck. You to Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 2That's a big fucking thing, dude, and I mean like I'm happy for him, you know, like go ahead and get Jordan Love another fucking receiver, why not?
Speaker 1Yeah, why not?
Speaker 2I mean I feel like that's not the part that's really lacking at this point. I feel like he has a good committee of wide receivers. Get him a. I mean now they got Brandon Jacobs. No, brandon Jacobs, josh Jacobs, josh Jacobs dude. I mean they needed help a little bit on the defensive side. They're getting an old secondary. They could have gone, but I definitely felt like it was just a big old fuck you to Aaron Rodgers at this point.
Speaker 1Agreed.
Speaker 2You know what It'll pay off. I mean they'll have another top 15, top 10 offense. They'll probably win the wild card and losing the divisional round and I mean it sounds about right.
Speaker 1Um, you know, breaking news the the nuggets close out the series 120 to 101, win the series four. Three on the clip clips they will go on to round two and the avalanche are up one. Nothing going into the third period against the dallas stars. All right, let's get into the unfortunate biggest story of the entire draft weekend. Of course everyone knows that tyler sco got drafted in the second round to new orleans saints. I mean, who would have? Who would have saw a mediocre lou Louisville quarterback get drafted in the second round? Surely not I, derek Carr Last player two.
Shedeur Sanders Draft Controversy
Speaker 2Last player, two to be drafted from the 1900s.
Speaker 1But yeah, last, yeah, Okay, I didn't. Yeah, I saw that I didn't really want to, I didn't really want to think about that. Yeah, last player drafted from the 1900s yeah, of course it's the Saints. The Saints drafted the quarterback in the first or second round for the first time since drafting Archie Manning in 1971. Now it is big news because Tyler Scho is poo. It is big news because Tyler Scull is poo and he is definitely not a second round talent quarterback. Um, you could make the argument they could have drafted another quarterback from a different school. You know that's neither here nor there. I mean, I just don't know.
Speaker 3Coach Rob coming in and taking my son to the door. In the first round, at number nine, I said my son was a top five pick. What are you doing with your life? He falls all the way down to 144.
Speaker 2That's the reason why he did. I'm sorry, but that's the reason why he fell. Now a lot of different takes on this. Fedora Sanders falls to the fifth round and gets drafted by the Cleveland Browns.
Speaker 1Who took Dilla Gabriel in the third round from Oregon?
Speaker 2Yes. Now Shador himself has said previously if he gets drafted by the Browns that he's out, he's going back to college, he's not doing it. A little bit of poetic justice there, if you want to call it that. Um, now there's a lot of ways that I feel like you could take this, but the only way that I take this is college and nfl. They are two totally different beasts. Yeah, right, not only when it comes to competition. Nfl teams are investing millions of dollars that they're paying out to make them millions and millions of dollars when it comes to that.
Speaker 2You know, I get that there's attitude, especially now, especially in today's college landscape, especially with NIL coming in. They're already established by making money. They're not yearning and needing that contract signature. But you know, at the end of the day there has to be a level of humility one way or another, and Sador confidence is through the roof 73-74% completion last year. There's a reason for that, in my opinion, is he would rather take a sack than throw an incompletion, and to me that's selfish. Is he would rather take a sack than throw an incompletion? To me that's selfish. It hurts the team.
Speaker 1He was also 23% completion percentage for throws more than 20 yards down the field.
Speaker 2It was nothing but little bubble screens and fucking slants. He was a yak guy, for his wide receivers Got the whole spotlight he did. That's a whole different conversation. The thing is, I get it. You have a father who's been in the league, knows what works and knows what doesn't. I mean not for nothing. You played in the 80s and the 90s, bro. It's a completely different landscape. You can't sit there and say one thing's better than the other and you can't sit there and tell the fucking league what you're going to do with your son, what they're going to do with your son. You just can't. I get Deion Sanders as a Hall of Fame player one of the best ever yeah, one of the best ever.
Speaker 2I'm not saying he doesn't know ball. I'm saying you can't go into a job market, especially as coveted and as exclusive as a major sports league, and tell the owners what the fuck they're gonna do. Part of me feels like Shador's slide was an answer to that. The other part of it is people just don't think he's that fucking good.
Speaker 3I'm sorry. I'm sorry. What do you mean? What do you mean? My son ain't that good. You see stats in colorado. You don't want to play colorado. You see him play jackson state. What do you? You mean?
Speaker 2It's prime time son, there was a term you used about Bo Nix last year that 100% applies to Shador Sanders, and that is empty fucking snacks that don't fucking matter.
Speaker 3Shador Sanders went 13-12 at Colorado.
Speaker 2He did not finish top 25. Against top 25 schools, he lost against top talent. I'm sorry that's not first overall talent to me, by any means necessary. On top of that, he was a quarterback that, in my opinion, would always divert blame and never truly take accountability. That's the main issue I have with Shador Sanders. He would throw his coaches under the bus. He would throw his O-line under the bus. Granted, his O-line was kind of trash, but when you can't recruit in the trenches.
Speaker 1This is your result that you get.
Speaker 2And I mean he would also hold on to the ball too long.
Speaker 3Oh yeah, Throw it away, oh yeah.
Speaker 2Make the smart plays. He would sit there, he'd hold on to the ball. He'd end up losing net yards. He'd end up doing wrong. He was more concerned about his image, his stats, wrong. He was more concerned about his image, his stats and what he wanted to do at the next level already, without fully efficiently sitting there and helping his team in the now. He was more worried about later instead of right now.
Speaker 2And I'm sorry, if you're in a position to play football or any sport at a high level, you need to seize every moment, because not everybody is in that position and nor will get to that position. Yeah, like we can sit there and we can say, oh, he played at colorado, kind of kind of like. Oh, he played at jackson state. Like what, what, what is what? Like how, how easy is that? A lot of people don't even make it there, how easy is that? A lot of people don't even make it there?
Speaker 2And to be at a certain level to where you can shine and make it to the next step, which is the NFL, it's a gift, it's not a privilege. You have to earn it. And, in my opinion, the way he's handled himself and conducted himself now granted, he got humbled during this draft process, which I feel like was the best thing for him to get grounded down back to earth. You know, he had success all his life and I mean this is off the topic, but I saw one of the stupidest fucking takes in my life saying that, oh yeah, he grew, grew up money, but he chose to get hit for a living.
Speaker 2What Shut the fuck up what he chose to get hit for a living to follow his passion. You're talking about football, right? I mean? It's just Talking about quarterback, right? That makes no sense. And granted, do quarterbacks get hit? Yes, to me. As a quarterback, you need to be a leader. You need to take accountability, even when it's not yours to take. You need to set an example and throughout pretty much his whole college career, in my opinion, he didn't Between that and between teams knowing if they drafted Shador, they had to deal with Deion.
Speaker 1Daddy Deion's going to be calling you up every week.
Speaker 2Exactly Between those two things. Those were the main factors of Shador's slide. Now I do not want anybody to get it twisted. I'm not saying Shador cannot be successful, especially in the NFL, if he goes ahead, drinks that humble juice, takes it to heart, goes into this offseason, this mini-camp, this OTAs, and grinds his fucking ass off. There's 1000,000% a chance that he can go ahead and he can start for the Cleveland Browns. He has some weapons. He has some people. He has two brand new running backs to go ahead and accompany him. He has Jerry Judy, who went off last year after the trade for the Browns. He has Jerry Judy who went off last year after the trade for the Browns.
Speaker 2He has a newly retained, miles Garrett. He has a D tackle out of Michigan. Mason Graham that was. I mean Mason Graham, that was a dog when he was there. He has pieces around him to be successful.
Speaker 1He's got a good coach. He's got a good coach in Stefanski.
Speaker 2Stefanski yeah, exactly, he has the necessary tools. Now, how are you going to react now? Because this was the point. You went ahead and you were shown that the way you handled the draft process, the way you handled your college career, was not it. You are talented enough to get here.
Speaker 2Regardless of how I feel about how he played, he does have arm talent. He does have talent to play the game. Was it as much talent as he boasted? No, it wasn't. At least from what he showed, it wasn't. But you do have the talent to make it to the league. What are you going to do now? How are you going to handle yourself? And are you going to make everybody think that they were fools for what happened on the draft night? That's what it's come down to, but do I think it needed to happen A thousand percent, and it's probably going to be the best thing that ever happened to Shador Sanders was being told and being everything like that. And now people are sitting there and they're saying, oh, what if the NFL NFL's racist for this? Because they weren't sitting there, making this much of a ruckus when Arch Manning said Eli wasn't going to play for the Chargers? Two completely different I mean same same, but different. Different because Arch Manning didn't sit there and completely build programs around his kid so that his kid could succeed.
Speaker 2That's the main part. He didn't sit there and coach his kid, prop his kid up, give him pretty much everything he needed for his kid to succeed, not the team, his kid to succeed. That's all Deion has done with Jackson State and with Colorado. I'm sorry, calling a spade a spade, it is what it is Now. Has Jackson State turned around in the year two years he was there? Has Colorado turned around? Yes, they have, but I mean it's not really saying much. It's not. So ball's in your court right now, Shador, how are you going to respond? That's the way out.
Speaker 1I'm not going to sit here in this moment for this year and proclaim that Shador's cooked and he's a bust and all that.
Speaker 3Not yet.
Speaker 1I'm going to give him a little patience for that. I think there's a lot of points you made there. I think if you're a GM and an owner and coaching staff, you have to think long term. What is my day-to-day going to look like and my week-to-week going to look like in season if we're terrible? If we're terrible and I'm getting a call every week why someone's son's not being put in a quarterback because the team is obviously bad with what we're doing.
Speaker 1If you can avoid all that potentially unnecessary drama and stress, you're going to do it, I would do it. Drama and stress you're going to do it, I would do it. And all Shador has done is play under Dion. You know, we don't know how, we don't know what his true strengths are and his actual talent is outside of his dad, and the NFL is usually not the first place you want to find yourself in that situation to like really see what you're made of. For me, it's for me, it's this. Every single quarterback that comes out the draft is first round talent it can't miss and that's just blowing smoke up everyone's ass and that's just.
Speaker 1It's a joke. It's not. It's actually an absolute joke how, how experts and analysts are on tv and this is what they proclaim every year. And even if that was the case, not every first round, talent quarterback is going in the first round first of all. Okay, start there, like you're naturally going to have people drop and slide back in the draft. Do I think the Saints should have taken Tyler Scho in the second round? No, do I think they should have taken Shador Also no.
Speaker 2I. They should have taken Tyler, though.
Speaker 1No, absolutely not. No, that was. That's just a big fuck. You, we're going to do what we want, type of thing.
Speaker 1Yeah, I think Shador Shador made the best with what he, with his decisions and what he got, which they threw the ball the majority of the time. To your point, he took a lot of unnecessary sacks. He would walk off the field before the game's over. He'd blame his offensive line, blame his coaches, blame his teammates, wouldn't take accountability for himself and as a quarterback, one of the top two traits you need to have as a quarterback is the ability to lead and take your own accountability for growth. I think there's definitely a humility, humble factor. I think there's an opportunity for teams to be like this isn't your league, this is the NFL and this is your team, this is our team and this is our decision. And I think that definitely weighed on their decision to not draft him from the fall all the way down into the fifth round and to your point Like now, what are you going to do with it?
Speaker 1You had 143 opportunities to get drafted, you didn't. You get drafted. You get drafted into a situation where you could outwork and be the starter for the Browns, like they got Deshaun Watson, who's never going to play down for Cleveland again, maybe not the NFL? You got Joe Flacco. I mean, jesus Christ, man, the man's like 40-41. Like, hang it up, I don't care what Grimm and Rich say, flacco's Flacco. You got Kenny Pickett. Kenny Pickett is trash. You drafted Dylan Gabriel, who played for like three to four different teams in college. It was always in multiple systems and he did not perform as well at oregon this past year as he should have, given what was there for him. So, like, your quarterback room, in a nutshell, is pretty bad. And if you, if you can't put in the time and really reflect and go out there and at least be the backup second string, at least be the backup for the Browns, okay, then whatever the dough hits he fit, call your dad, tell him you know what they? They obviously just don't see. They don't see what I see in me. Just don't see what I see in me. They don't see what you see in me. And keep in mind this is like week five, like no real time has really passed, nothing's been invested, and so I think that's the first thing. I think he was overdrafted. He was overdrafted a lot of people's minds. He was overhyped. Mel Kuyper could have had an aneurysm on TV defending Shador. It was a lot of empty calorie stats. It was a lot of screens and short passes for Yak and maybe some deep crossing rounds and chucking off 50-50 balls to Travis Hunter and like I don't see it, I just don't see it.
Speaker 1Here's the other thing. We have no idea what the conversations and the speculations were going on inside those draft rooms with all the teams we had. No, we got no idea what they're thinking. We've got no idea what their game plan is've got no idea what their game plan is. We have no idea where he is on the board, if he's even on the board.
Speaker 1And because we're in an era where we have to be so plugged in and we feel like we have to know everything in the moment, as soon as it happens, and we have to, like, try and be the expert, they had no, they had no idea what to say.
Speaker 1They had no idea what to say and then they threw shit out there and it ran with it and it exploded and the narrative took off like a bullet train.
Speaker 1Yeah, and that's, that's part of the big problem. Right there, like they and I, I get it Like if you're, if you're covering the draft and you know you're, you're like a Kuiper or Louis Riddick or field DH or somebody like you, like your prime time cameras on you. Hey, what the hell is your doors Like any drafted? I mean to go out there and just speculate and try and flip your own personal belief and opinion and then spin it into a narrative that, just frankly, isn't true, I think is ridiculous, and I think it's exactly what happened in this case. There was definitely a combination of your pre-draft preparation was terrible. Okay, that's a reflection on you. Your dad came out and said that you're not going to go to these draft teams and X, y and Z, you want to dictate your future. Unfortunately, that's going to fall on you as a son, but like he just wasn't first round In the 32 players that got selected.
Speaker 2How many can you realistically make argue for taking?
Speaker 1Chador over that person. Three, maybe like two or three Steelers, raiders, saints, saints, browns. Four, four, there's four opportunities where you could.
Speaker 1You could maybe, maybe take a second opinion and be like you know what mainly it was the Browns mainly yeah, I think mainly it was the Browns and I, and I just think we see it every year 52% of quarterbacks drafted in the first round are busts and there are only two quarterbacks drafted this round. I think a lot of it is recency bias. There were six quarterbacks taken in the first round last year and it's still too early to tell, but like half of them are probably going to fail. It just is. That's just the nature of the NFL. But he had to be humbled, unfortunately. Look, if Bronny James' dad wasn't LeBron and LeBron didn't have as much influence on the Lakers as he did, he wouldn't have been drafted, period. Michael Jordan's kids were terrible at basketball. Bronny so far has been pretty bad in the NBA. Shiloh Sanders is terrible just from a talent perspective. Just because your kids are trying to follow in your footsteps doesn't mean they're also going to make it.
Speaker 2It doesn't mean they should.
Speaker 1And it doesn't mean they should. And I, when you're, when you're trying to explain it to someone like a Deion Sanders or to a family that has had a generation of success, like the Mannings, for example, like the Long family with Jake Long and Howie, the Matthews family At some point it's going to skip or the buck is just going to stop, like you're going to hit a wall and I'm sorry. Like you just have to come to the realization that it may not be my kids, and that's okay. Like they both got to the nfl. So obviously they're, obviously they see something, the team sees something, enough and enough talent to be. Like. I want to take a chance on you and it's not going to cost me a whole lot. It could pan out and it could be a great like success story at the end of the day. But like I, I just think. I just think the notion of if his last name wasn't sanders, he wouldn't be in discussion with this. You're right, if his last name wasn't Sanders, he also wouldn't have been overinflated, over-talked about, shoved in our face as much as he was.
Speaker 1It's just a two-way street. You got drafted to a shitty team To your point. What are you going to do with it? How are you going to capitalize on it? And when you get out there and you get dog watered because it's going to happen, like, are you just going to be? Like are you just going to go up there and say, hey, it was, it was pretty, it was pretty tough out there, but, um, I'm there, but um, I'm glad I was able to, like, get some nfl exposure for me to get an understanding of, like, what it's like, versus hearing it from my dad's perspective from back when he played and also that's the other thing like deon's a great dad.
Speaker 1But, bro, you know how important draft preparation is. Like you just do, like you've been, like you've been through it, like you've been through it, and the guidance for that was just terrible, it was just wrong, it was a joke, it's just A couple clips came out after the fact of you know him talking to the Browns report. I think it was like the Browns team, or a couple teams, in media interviews for Sador. He just was arrogant and there's nothing wrong with being arrogant. But you also have to understand that if you're not going to perform to that level of confidence, there's no one to blame but yourself.
Speaker 1I'm not going to go into a hospital. Be like fucking brain surgery, removing a five centimeter tumor on the left cortex. Come on, guys, this is light work. What are we talking about right now? And then I go in there like, and then bam, like it goes off the rails, like it. Just it don't work like that. Like, know your role, know your place, and your place currently is a fourth or fifth in the depth chart for the Cleveland Browns right now.
Speaker 2And that's the thing. The depth chart in the quarterback room is wide and fucking open. Like you were saying, he could easily win the starting job, if not the backup, and make a case in preseason as why he should be the starting job. There's no reason why he shouldn't because, like we both reiterated, he does have talent. He does have talent enough to get to the league and show us that talent and show us that you can go ahead and you can take the starting role over, because everything from the attitude, everything from how you've handled yourself in post game interviews and everything from and I'll be honest, we said it before we didn't think he should have had his that prop either, because yet again, it seemed like his dad was trying to prop him up and shine a light on him, when I'm not saying he didn't deserve it. He didn't earn it yet. What his jersey retired yes.
Speaker 1Oh, he doesn't deserve it. I'll say he doesn't deserve it. He didn't earn it. Yet what? His jersey retired. Yes, oh, he doesn't deserve it. I'll say he doesn't deserve it, he didn't earn it. He doesn't deserve shit for that. Are you kidding me?
Speaker 2Especially, not even a full year out of being taken out of the college football program.
Speaker 1That's crazy. What kind of message are we sending? Hey, son, you can go to that mid-level school, be mid. It probably gets Jersey retired because it's the best thing they've seen in like 40 years. Like what are we talking about?
Speaker 2Like what, and it's just all that played a factor. It was little things here and there that added up into bigger things With the way he handled the situation. That's why he fell. It was in my opinion, it was a statement, but it was also because he hasn't proven himself, no matter what you say, in any way, shape or form. Yes, he had 73% 74% completion percentage in a system where they threw what like 60% 70% of the time and where he would sit there and hold the ball way too long, especially with that crap O-line that he had with him. Sorry, not sorry. It was a shit offensive line that he had and try to make plays out of nothing. And if he couldn't, he would just rather take the loss than hurt his stats. You can't do that. People pick up on that. You know what I mean and that's why he fell. That plus Deion.
Speaker 1Deion had a huge part to play in the fact. Yes, he did 100%.
Speaker 2And it's just like nobody wants to deal with Deion. Nobody like, granted cool, he's a college football coach, it's wild to say, because Deion is an Hall of Fame player and he should be considered one of the best defensive backs to ever play the game.
Speaker 1He is.
Speaker 2Can't sit there and tell people what they're going to do in a professional league just because you paid your dues when it was your time, and especially when it comes to your son, it just ain't going to fly. I don't care who you are. If anybody says that, they're going to be fucking laughed out of the building. Yep, Especially because Deion has a platform and he can sit there and he can like it was just messy. But I am excited to see what Shador can do on the Cleveland Browns now, a team that he openly mocked when it came to the draft process, and we'll just see what happens from here man.
Speaker 2I hope he turns this into a positive. I hope he hits many camps. I hope he hits OTAs, I hope he studies that playbook. I hope he fucking hits the ground running and I want him to succeed. I'll say it. I want him to succeed, I'll say it, I want him to succeed, but don't get it twisted you didn't deserve to be a first round.
Speaker 1You didn't Correct, no, correct. And the mindset should be I want to get drafted in the NFL, not, oh, yeah, I'm a top ten pick and I'm going to go where I want to go. The optics is just completely different when you're just like man, I just want to get the NFL. Man, like every single person that got drafted from rounds two through seven, all have the same thought as the people who got got drafted round one yeah, man, I would love to get drafted in the first round, like, and then route, and then round one comes and goes and you didn't get picked and now it's like all right, I just want to get, I just want to get in, man, like I, just I just want to be drafted to the big dance right now, like, call my name, right, so he has a shot. Look, he got to the NFL, he got drafted, he's in the NFL and you know, I just want him to be Shador Sanders, the person, and not Shador Sanders, dion's son, correct? Yes, exactly. And I think he has a big opportunity to start really changing up his circle and integrating himself with a different type of crowd that he needs to be with, just for his own sake and development Right. And you know, if the Browns go fucking 5-12, which they probably could and we hear rumblings of like man, is Stefanski on the hot seat now Maybe get a call from Deion, considering Colorado is going to win about four games in the upcoming years, so he ain't going to be staying for that contract extension that he signed.
Speaker 1It's just going to be a mess. If that's the case, it's just going to be a mess. A whole lot to talk about, a whole lot to talk about. It will be 100%. I A whole lot to talk about, a whole lot to talk about. It will be 100%. I'll be ready to talk about it.
Speaker 1But like, yeah, I hope he can, I hope he, I hope he actually becomes that that prototypical, just fucking lazy Analysis of a rookie. Yeah, he's the first one, the first one in the building every single day. He's always the last one to leave All that bullshit. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I actually hope he is. I hope he is that, I hope he is actually that rookie that they talk about every single year and he has to make the most of his opportunities and when he fails, he's just going to have to be like it's on me, it's just on, have to be like it's on me, this is on me, like that's okay, like that. That's what they also want. They also want to hear that it's on me. I messed up, I made a bad read. Here's what I'm learning from it. Here's how I'm going to correct it. Right, it's the same thing at it's the same thing at work. Athletes are going to work. This is what you, this is where your boss wants to see you at work.
Speaker 2Right, right. And that's just the name of the game, man, like that's just, let's see, show us, show us.
Speaker 1Yeah, just show us. By the way, the O's are getting shelled at home against the Kansas City Royals, they're down 4-0. What a joke. What a fucking joke of a team. They are Fucking shocker. What a joke of a team they are. This year we can't fucking play Warzone because somebody wants to watch the shitty O's this year, every single game. Sorry, rich, love you, but you're 13 and 18 right now.
Speaker 2At least I know my team is trash Like come on.
Speaker 1You know what I mean. Like we're 31 games in. You got 131 to go. Long season, it's a long season indeed. All right, we are done on this Saturday night.
